very curious about your soldier au...

so glad to get an ask like that!

dropping some unposted art while i explain the long version under the cut

so the basic premise of this au follows xisuma - a geneticaly engineered special force soldier in a dystopic nation without a country; it's only known as "the Army", because the only thing left of it is the armed force, restlessly tearing through all land that isn't theirs and leaving behind only burnt remains and "the Fog" - thick smoke that seems to travel with them. generaly, their ideals are really racist and even holocaust-esque, following a principle that was forgotten so long ago there isnt a single source where it's been written down. all generals are dead set on one goal - to kill and burn, to burn and kill.

x and ex (pictured above) are both clones created from the genetic material of "the First General" - the legendary man who started this madness and died before he got to see the horrible consequences of his actions. the only difference is the two have been modified to have additional organs near their necks that allow them to manipulate the highly condensed Fog with their breath, which in a concentration as high as what they can produce is a deadly poison gas.

they might be geneticaly identical (which makes them sorta-twins), ex's Fog manipulation skills seem to be inactive; deemed more safe for direct contact with others, he is being trained to eventually take a high position in the Army. he's even thought to be eventually able to bring the nation back to its "former glory", back when the First General was alive.

xisuma, however, has proven to be quite skilled at breathing the Fog, and dispatched to lead a tiny special force division (consisting of whopping five people, himself included). the whole problematic of the au focuses on the contrast between him and ex; specificaly, the fact that it's specificaly being great at what he was made to do being the reason he gets constantly played down and dehumanised - the clone of the most important possible person for hypertraditionalists who are also fucked in the head is treated no better than a glorified smoke grenade. and the mask he wears? its airtight, designed to fit his face perfectly. when activated, it lets no liquid, gas, or any other state of matter for that matter (ba dum tss. that was pretty clever wasn't it) slip through, and to deactivate it, another person has to type in a code on the back, near the clasp. basicaly, once activated, the mask ensures that even if accidental (or deliberate) usage of the Fog takes place, the only casualty will be xisuma himself. oh yeah! he is not immune to his own poison, which means he can very much kill himself if he isn't careful.

now for the reason you probably asked, that is wels (and by proximity, hels, because it was a drawing of him that i posted earlier)! wels is obviously a part of xisuma's tiny division, and also a dragon in human(ish) form. he was taken hostage when he was a tiny baby and raised among the soldiers, which can only mean two things:

1) he was never properly taught how to dragon

and

2) what he was taught is that he is strange (killing machine style) and also a lot of propaganda.

so, as you can see, a delightful package indeed. the flaws are plentiful - one of the worst certainly being the fact that the difference between the Army's nation and dragons makes it plain impossible for a dragon raised by them to safisfy their natural urges and behaviours. you may be wondering, surely the soldiers have seen another dragon by now, how bad can it be? well, you would be correct. they saw the dragons, sure. they also killed every single one of them on sight, only finding the almost-abandoned nest by pure chance. as far as the Army is concerned, there are no other dragons. it led a war against them, like against every other nation it came across, and inevitably it won. wels is the last, with a deeply rooted imposter syndrome and an allarming amount of unresolved health issues (both mental and physical). a worth mentioning coping mechanism of his would be his fixation on knights - he is absolutely caught up with the idea of noble warriors in shining armour, protecting the weak and fighting for grace. the idea of fighting for a reason brings him peace - a reason he never had, but liked to tell himself he did.

okay but you are surely wondering, how does hels fit into all of this. and i would absolutely love to give you a full and satisfying answer, but i could talk about his character for the entire lenght of this post and then some more, and this one is already getting pretty long, so i will try to condense the most important stuff!

as you probably expected, there are still dragons. after all, its hard to kill out something as large and powerful as them. wounded and grieving, most of them never making full recovery, they retreated into the tallest mountains of the world, seeking shelter in their cold, stormy peaks. one of them happens to be hels - a terribly scarred dragonet, left out of the carnage just because he was thought to already been dead. everybody, including his parents (both died from wounds later on), were convinced he was the miracle, the only survivor from the ravaged nest. well, we know how that went so lets skip ahead! how do wels and hels meet? well, you see, wels' health issues get worse and worse, and the generals refuse to react. his division is told to either deal with it themselves, or to let him die. through a series of surprisingly convenient events, they get a hold of an appaerently surviving dragon, who, after seeing the terrible condition in which wels was left, decides to help. on one principle - they will get wels out of there, even if it costed them their life. hels in return teaches them how to treat dragon wounds, and how to prevent most common diseases.

Mc: "Honestly, I know yall are brothers and demons so this kinda stuff is bound to happen but for Diavolo's sake this is getting ridiculous!"

Mc: *points hoof at Belphie* " Belphie. I know you're the avatar of sloth and therefore sleep a lot, but you can't solve all your problems and grief by sleeping the time away constantly, and the youngest brother brat thing doesn't always make you endearing!"

Mc: *points hoof at Beel* "Beel. I know you have survivors guilt but Lilith ended up living with humans like she wanted, Belphie doesn't need you standing up for him all the time, and you needn't continue to try to fill the hole inside you by eating in a restaurant that has no more food when you could just go down the street to another food place!"

Mc: *points hoof at Asmo* "Asmo. I know you ~get it on~ mainly to distract yourself from your troubles, to make yourself forget even just for a bit, sometimes but you can't push those feelings down forever, so actually talk with someone, anyone, about whats bothering you rather then trying ignore it! And stop hitting on your brothers, it's kinda weird!"

Mc: *points hoof at Satan* "Satan. I know you have an inferiority complex when it comes to Lucifer, but for the love of Diavolo, you wouldn't be called Satan, avatar of wrath, if you were like Lucifer in the first place. You have blonde hair and like cats, Lucifer has black grey-ish hair and likes dogs. AND THATS JUST THE START OF THE CONTRASTS! You are your own person, get that through your thick skull!"

Mc: *points hoof at Levi* "Levi. I know that it's easy to compare yourself to others and not at least feel somewhat bad about yourself but how do you not realize that you're the best tech wiz we got, an amazing gamer, and the most dedicated being I've ever seen in my life! So if you think that you're not good at something think again!"

Mc: *points hoof at Mammon* "Mammon. How in the whole Devildom is the Avatar of Greed almost always poor?! Also I know you are a material gorl, but items and things can't fully fill the void that you feel, so stop acting all emotionally constipated and just ask for affection if you want it!"

Mc: *points hoof at Lucifer* "And you Lucifer. I know you're the eldest and the prideful one, but there is such a thing as shouldering too much and being stubborn to a fault! Ask for help and for Diavolo to lessen your workload every once in a while! And stop not telling your brothers important things, rather then being all secretive to try to 'protect them' youre just hurting yourself and them cause of it!"

Silence was all that could be heard in the House of Lamentation, the brothers still as statues with varying amount of widened eyes, staring at the small being that they cherished that had just ripped into them so aggressively

After a minute ofa dead silent pause, Mc turned off their phone, hopped off the couch and started walking to the living room exit

Mc: "Honestly, I didn't expect to become a therapist for demons when coming here, and now I can't even read my enemies to lovers book in even somewhat peace.... I don't get paid enough for this."

They then disappeared from the brothers' sight, left to wrap their heads around what just happened

And the arguement that started it all? Who was going to make dinner that night

I think when Castor is more at a peace of mind, he'd be much more relaxed and gentle about cuddles and being around you in general, but since his mind is constantly on edge (even if he hides it well) most of the time), especially revolving around his little mothling,,,, those moments can be rare.

Though, again, when he is more calm, I think he'd be very nice to hug! He does know all your preferences, and memorizes how different they can be each time you come back alive.

If you're very calm and understanding about it, and don't even give him the slightest impression you're thinking about trying to leave, I think he'd be at ease more often.

I can't really see Johnny joining if Kyle is there to help out. There wouldn't really be a reason for him to, except to join in and that would be a lot for everyone, and there wouldn't be anyone to keep Simon busy or run interference in case he accidentally caught a whiff other than Kyle, which would be a struggle. By the time Johnny could get involved it would be too late and there would be an alpha fight.

So yeah, Johnny really wouldn't help out just because it would make things a little too complicated.

EVERYBODY LIVES!!! i did not experience this scene organically fun fact. bc i watch the hbomberguy sherlock sucks video essay on a semi regular basis as background drawing noise so it was the entire basis of my doctor who knowledge for a while before going in. and even out of context from the limited explanation of what's going on from the video essay i was kind of struck by it, like!! wow!! this is such a good line and i haven't even watched the show. and of course in context it's even better, bc nine spends his whole run practically soaked in death, we see it from the start, and over the course of the season he bonds w rose and lets himself feel hope and joy and starts to heal and just this once everybody lives. so good. this scene is special to me and i love u nine forever

I remember reading somewhere that Neil said the kiss wasn't about lust and I disagree, at least in part, because there is plenty of love-emotional lust between these two. What do you think? Is there physical lust as well ? Also, do you think by the end of S3 we could see Aziraphale Fall (could he actually choose to Fall?), and become a demon ?

Even though some people treat it as such, Neil's opinions aren't the gospel truth and not canon either. The show as it is—everything we can see and hear on screen—is our canon to work with, and while Neil definitely has a unique position when it comes to interpretation and analysis, his thoughts aren't automatically the only correct option.

In short, whatever he retrospectively says about the kiss is simply another possible interpretation of that scene.

'Show not tell' is an important principle in writing, and I think in a way it also applies to here; we have what we see, and telling us what supposedly happened is not the same as writing and producing the episodes.

Personally, I do think their attraction has a sexual & physical aspect to it, and the kiss is an expression of everything Crowley feels towards Aziraphale, including lust/desire/whatever you wanna call it.

Regarding Aziraphale's celestial status—I really hope that we do not get a "he chooses to fall" situation since it would cheapen not just Crowley's traumatic fall but that of every single fallen angel. The point is that falling was not a choice, it was a punishment, and going against heaven does not automatically degrades you or changes your (metaphysical) nature.

Making Aziraphale fall now would also serve no actual purpose. Heaven has ways of punishing angels just like hell does, and while the fall was definitely a deeply physically painful experience, the symbolism of it was just as important.

Make one angel fall and the most you get is that one angel now being in hell.

Make millions of angels fall after forcing them to fight in a war against the other half of the family and effectively remove them from their home & God's love, and you get not just collective punishment but a heaven full of angels absolutely terrified of being subjected to the same thing.

The control heaven has is largely based on fear—a fear that was justified, but is no longer validated by actual experience. Consorting with hell is second nature to the Archangels, that has never been the problem, it's breaking the rules & going against the Great Plan that angers them.

Honestly, I am not entirely sure that Neil will be able to fix the fallout of season two in six episodes, and I wouldn't want him to cheapen the story by trying to rush a fairytale ending. If Aziraphale falls, I want it to be a punishment, not a choice. I want him to go through the exact same pain as everyone else because contrary to popular believe, he is not God's Special Boy; he's an average angel with average status and a shitton of luck and time on earth that he didn't use.

Aziraphale had six thousand years to choose to fall, but he never did. He prioritized his personal comfort and heaven's opinion of him over everything else, and Crowley should have drawn a line so much earlier than he did. If Aziraphale wanted to choose Crowley over heaven, he would have by now, but he hasn't, and everything he does now is something he COULD have done earlier—but Crowley was simply not important enough to him to do it while he was still co-dependent on Aziraphale.

This is a situation of "I asked you to stop hurting me but you never did & now suddenly after the break-up you are doing all the things I have been asking you to do for years".

To quote the Good Place once again: [They were] always capable of change, [Crowley] just wasn't worth changing for.
