Hot take, but Internet Movie Reviewers have ruined what ripoff actually means
Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely rip off movies that exist (literally anything made by Video Brinquedo is a ripoff of either Pixar or Dreamworks, Mac and Me) but sometimes, it feels like movie reviewers online just throw it around for movies that have similar concepts
Like, no, The Hero of Color City is not a ripoff of Toy Story just because it uses a similar concept of “inanimate objects come to life when their owners aren’t around” Hell, The Hero of Color City and Toy Story don’t even have similar plots or even story themes. Toy Story’s themes are about childhood and growing up while The Hero of Color City’s theme is conquering your fears.
Also, IF (2024) ISN’T a ripoff of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. Literally some of the only similarities is that both are about abandoned imaginary friends reconnecting with their owners, that’s it. Youtube Movie reviewers made the term ripoff seem like “if this piece of media heavy inspiration from this other piece of media, it’s automatically a ripoff!”
I just wanted to get this off my chest

First look at Toy Story 5! Honored to say that I composed/did the original concept painting for this one 😍 Amazing repaint by Carlos Leon. Coming to theaters in Summer 2026!

Watched Inside Out 1 and 2 back to back with some friends tonight. Shocked that I think the second one is actually the better of the two.
The first one felt a bit like a boardroom trying to trying to write a 12 year old girl character to be a blank slate. Riley wasnt developed enough for the emotional beats with her to hit for me, and the stuff with Bing Bong didn’t quite do it for me either. The movie is still cute but doesn’t get me the same way I know it did for other people
Inside Out 2 feels like it gave Riley a smidge more story and a smidge more personality. The new shit gremlin emotions feel more like the sort of creatures that would run the brain of a teenaged girl, compared to the first movie where the emotions felt a lot more detached from being representations of this girl’s emotions specifically.
It’s weird that the movie implies that people do not experience boredom or embarrassment or envy until they become teenagers. Introducing more emotions for the sequel was a fun idea but there isnt really any great way to actually write it in.
I like that people are apparently shipping Joy with Anxiety now because it’s visually like seeing Tinkerbell shipped with a mangled fraggle
