I'd like to give my two cents on the question you were asked about why your story is special/different. Your answer was wonderful, however I would like to add that what really makes your story special to me is your wonderful and immersive portrayal of New Orleans. Keep in mind that I've never been anywhere close to Louisiana so I'm not a great judge, but the way your portray the city has such a vibrance and sense of familiarity. I haven't seen such a lively and well-done setting in any other decades challenge. Have a good day!

My goodness, I don’t think it’s possible for me to convey my thanks to you, not only for your kindness, but for that specific compliment 🥺
So I have mentioned this, but I lived in New Orleans for about a decade (and grew up nearby the city). It’s very difficult for me to articulate the love of place that I have for Louisiana, but more specifically, for New Orleans. I began writing the 1920s as an homage to its history, but I think over time I put a lot more of my heart into the story than I intended to. Above all, I now realize that it’s a love letter to the city and all the wonderful things it has given me/made me feel. The fact that this comes across touches my heart more than you can know.
I will certainly admit that this does make me nervous going forward. It isn’t just you saying that, as I’ve thought it for a while, but I’m now venturing into a place in the story that I just don’t have the same connection with or knowledge of. I have tried to mend that with research; but I fear the heart behind the 1920s cannot be replicated anywhere else. I just hope that the characters stay strong and vibrant no matter where we go so that the story doesn’t lose the magic that it (and I) got from New Orleans ♥️

I was bored so I looked up the places the Frankensteins visit on their trip this Chapter:
"We perceived that the valley through which we wound, and which was formed by the river Arve"
The river's source is at a mountain pass called Col the Montets, which is close to Chamonix and it flows into the rhône at Geneva.
Here's a picture of the river from Google street view:
Tumblr media
"We passed the bridge of Pelissier, where the ravine, which the river forms, opened before us"
When searching "bridge of pelissier" I only found this drawing:
Tumblr media
But it does look similar to the Pont du Pelissier, which I actually found on Google street view.
Tumblr media
There's also another artistic depiction.
"Soon after we entered the valley of Chamounix."
The community Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (Chamonix for short) is a popular Ski resort that actually hosted the first Winter olympics in 1924. They also have a Website.
Here's a picture where you can see the Chamonix valley from Mont Blanc:
Tumblr media
source
"but not so beautiful and picturesque as that of Servox, through which we had just passed."
I think this is referring to Servoz, which is a small community slightly west of Chamonix.
Tumblr media
source
"Mont Blanc, the supreme and magnificent Mont Blanc, raised itself from the surrounding aiguilles , and its tremendous dome overlooked the valley."
And lastly Mont Blanc. It lies between France and Italy and is 4807,81m high which makes it the highest mountain in the alps.

I didn’t do any extensive research so if I got anything wrong feel free to correct me or add something.

Do you have a favourite tea to drink and relax to? Mind to share?
Tumblr media
"Let's see... my collection includes... jasmine, green tea, a blend of black and calendula tea, buttercup pea flower tea, apple tea..."
"Recently I've started enjoying a blend of cold earl grey and fruit syrup. It makes an amazing, refreshing drink. I usually drink it in my bath, though. It's too cold to drink when I'm not warmed up."
"...Ah! I also have a collection of other blends from Brian. He is an avid tea enjoyer, too."

It’s so (for lack of a better word) tiring to have people asking me ‘when will you be able to go on outings again’, ‘will that help you get out more’, ‘you can’t live your life never going anywhere’ when the outings they apparently think make life worth living are so far over my limits that I can’t fully enjoy them in the moment because I’m so tired, and then they leave me unable to do basic daily hygiene and chores for a full week.
Like, I would like to work towards being able to write regularly and not having to schedule my whole week around when I need to take a shower before I think about going to museums and concerts. Of course these people don’t see me every day so my daily struggles aren’t visible to them. But they do know having a day/night out has a long recovery period and yet they’re disappointed when I say I don’t think that’s worth it. I’m hoping it’ll sink in eventually and that they’ll worry about it privately (or at least not to me) in the meantime…

becoming a data hoarder of crochet/knitting/sewing/embroidery patterns and books on my pc, laptop and phone. an ungodly amount fr.
#also finding good patterns for like 2 dollars at thrift stores and getting books out from the library has been VERY helpful#and so many have maker spaces#where you can sew/weave/embroider/whatever#the one at my local library is mega cool#cos the council realized the suburb next to mine (mine is too small to have a village center like the others so theirs is ours)#had been promised a new mall makeover and a new pool and a new bunch of stuff#and hadnt been given anything in like. decades.#and is also a suburb where a lot of working class and low income families live#so they went ''okay we should. do something and actually support this section''#and thats how we got our new million dollar suburb center building with a new library/cafe/preschool/pool/maker space#and suddenly people have a reason to stay in the area and spend more time at shops and have a study space#available right next to a park and a place for community and information!!!#and everyone is happier and spending more money at the surrounding shops because theyre visiting more often#like that whole project took 2 years but it was so worth it the maker space rules its got a recording booth and a 3dprintet and an engraver#a loom and all these other woodcraft/textile stuff#and i see teenagers from the 3 surrounding schools coming in to record music and/or rent out instruments!#and do carving and sewing and book clubs!!#and have a place to study!#when i was in hs we would walk down to the mall get sushi and sit in a field bcos there was nothing to do#now people from the same high school i have can access all this stuff!#and more online to print out#and partake in healthy hobbies and its like fuck!!! it makes me so happy!!!#all this to say if anyone wants a pattern for smth i can probs find a free one/one costing a few dollars by an indie creator

Yeah, yeah, your vacation spending got expensive because the value of the euro went up compared to SEK, but
but
I get paid in Euro, which is then automatically converted into SEK on my bank account, and when the Euro is doing well, I get MORE SEK.
And I care way more about my ability to pay my rent than I do how much money you have to spend on beer on your fourth trip to Prague this past decade.
Boo hoo you.

I saw a few videos about Namibia and decided to look up some more information about the country as I felt I would love to visit some day (although that day would be far in the future, and I've never even left Europe).
One place I looked was the sweden abroad site that has travel information for swedes. As far as I'm aware it's a pretty official site with links to the various embassies and such.
The page for Namibia had misspelled the name as Nambia several times, parts seemed to have been copy pasted from Lesothos page (as they said "Lesotho" instead of Namibia), and some of the facts were about South Africa instead of Namibia ("Namibias time zone is the same as South Africa" okay but I do not know South Africas time zone, I was looking at Namibia). It's almost funny how many random errors I found.

I’ve never understood travel tip videos and posts that are like “mistakes people make when visiting (place!)” and then their list is like “don’t do these things that the city is famous for!! it’s not worth it!! do (random thing) instead!!”
like… maybe not to YOU who has probably been there / travelled there a lot but to someone who will most likely only be visiting that place ONCE…. it is probably worth it.
it just doesn’t compute for me because yeah.. it’s touristy and may not live up to certain expectations but it is still kind of a bucket list thing. like “oh I went here and went up to this place because I would have regretted not doing it even if it wasn’t all that”. idk it is absolutely a pet peeve of mine….
