For anyone who wants to take inspiration on the way I write my story

I've set it up to three (and a half) plots in one book. But, these plots aren't totally separated- they all affect one another, and affect other plot points on the line as well!

1. Serious Baby's internal conflict (Yellow)

In this plot I focus on Serious Baby's character, how is past history and hidden secrets affect the way he interacts with his friend and love interest Jerry Cat. He's shielded and doesn't want to share his history, and would much rather focus on his studies. But this exaggeration on the value of his studies leads to his mentor, Luna, to push him from his studies and focus on himself, something he does not want. This helps set up the exposition for the story, and how Jerry Cat gets introduced! But Serious Baby struggles and comes to his mentor for help on how to open himself up more to his friend.

2. External Conflict/Plot (Pink)

In this story the external conflict begins with a fungal parasite spreading and affecting one of Serious Baby's younger friends, Billy. This leads to Luna bringing them and telling them of the threat that may come in time soon to come. She gives them a solution to find out how to defeat the fiends that will cause the infection and control the city of Cat Vegas: research.

3. Mini Arcs (Green)

Not just any time of research, though! The two must "jump time", using a book that allows one to explore prospective universes, and figure out how this threat was defeated in the past. They must learn how to control where they want the pages of this book to lead, and must learn how to jump to different worlds. But in order to master this technique, they must parse through worlds created by their subconscious minds. Cue rise and fall of small lessons that are taught through these individual worlds.

4. Side Character Plot (Blue)

Not everyone has been freed from the actions of the threat (the fiends Flame and Fungi). Billy, a child who had been taken away from his ocean world many moons ago by Flame, faces it in a battle. Already infected, his fight leads him to have multiple burn wounds. His manager at the soda shop he works at, Wert, realizes what a problem this fiend is, and works his own plot to get revenge for it toasting his apprentice. Billy's friends, Mad Boy and Sadd Man also seek revenge, and although Wert has hated them to no degree at first, accepts their help and the unlikely help from the city's own minor nuisance of Macata the Ninja Thief.

That's all I can really share without spoiling too much. But I hope this gives inspiration to those wanting to know how to structure their story. As always happy writing to all!

What is Plot?

Simply put, a plot is “the main events of a play, novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence.” As opposed to a timeline, which depicts events in a purely chronological order, the sequence of events in the plot is chosen specifically by the writer. so the evanuris/blight situation is that: solas managed to, at the height of his power + with all his ancient elf besties helping, seal them into the black city and make the veil. and this took so much out of him that he was basically comatose for 5000 years. ok fine.

but then in vg, his initial plan was to put them in a different jail, while the veil is still up (despite that weakening all magic significantly and making it difficult to even access the black city). and then he wants to tear down the veil afterwards, presumably expecting to still be awake to do so. despite not having his original orb or his ancient elf besties anymore? so it doesn't particularly make sense in general. similar to how he described what he wanted to do with the orb, you'd expect him to take out the veil first and then reseal/move the jail?

(and then he wanted to put them into a Regret Prison when he is the ONLY one out of that entire situation who feels any regrets... 😭)

then his more ambiguous-sounding veil removal motives of being depressed about elves/spirits and unable to see the modern world as worthy of existence... become almost irrelevant. bc it's kind of necessary for him to Do Something? or else everyone fully dies of turbo blight when the archdemons die and the black city inevitably opens?

but then no one really mentions the looming catastrophe of the blight part, and they handwave it at the end, and all act like he's being very unreasonable. which he is! but only bc they made him dumber than a rock and weirdly inconsistent in his capabilities, not bc his motivations were actually proven to be wrong. aaaaa.

Fluff with some NSFW or NSFT

A vampire that stays mostly in half bat form during the day. He is only slightly smaller then his human form, but finds that he can survive on equal parts fruit juice and blood the more time he spends like this. Also his protruding nose is very fun to kiss~

A vampire that's so soft and fuzzy and loves to curl up with you when you come home from work. He loves to wrap you in his wings to keep you close and warm!! His musk always smells sweet. A courting vampire always doused himself in the best perfumes that intensify his musk. You always smell good whenever you spend time with your boyfriend.

A vampire who spends half his time during the week with his colony. It turns out that vampires were actually meant to be a social species, rather than isolated. When they form a colony, their mental state improves, which means less health issues, like dying in sunlight. A happy vampire can handle the stress of the sun better when he is covered in his sun hats and umbrellas! Your vampire prefers a large black cowboy hat, and some sunglasses.

A vampire that, while being nocturnal, always makes time to be with you. He can't keep himself from kissing your face when he sees you, and holding your for a full five minutes before you two go off on your dates.

A vampire who when he gets you home, loves to go down on you. Its one of his favorite things, sometimes even swearing that your fluid is just as nutritious as blood to him. He'd go into the details about vampires and life force with you, but your too cute squirming under him, for him to stop. Maybe later.

A vampire who loves singing to you. He can't help it, its part of the vampire courting behavior. You find him humming so often when he meets with you, when he holds you, when the two of you are making love. He also loves taking you to music festivals, its a fun pastime for you to share!

A vampire who tells you about his colony's scheduled orgies(also known as swarms). Who doesn't mind sharing you occasionally among his brethren, if you don't mind going of course!

A vampire who uses his big ears and silent magic chirps to check the area for danger. A vampire who can sense an irrate person by the sound of their heartbeat and always steers you clear of any risks when your out.

A vampire who is obsessed with the sound of your heartbeat, loving how close to you it makes him feel. And who loves to listen to it thud faster when he gets you all riled up.

ALSO, like with just about everything about wyll in the full release version i m o, the way his interactions with mizora throughout the game were just sorta ported over without much tweaking to make them fit in with the new version of his character is so weird and clunky and just.... uncomfortable

the fact that mizora was mortal in the original version of the story was kind of an extremely important detail that not only wyll's entire character quest but also their entire relationship and history hinged on. the ea version of mizora was half-human, not a full devil, and according to dnd rules as i understand them, that means she would've had a regular human lifespan. (eta: yes, she's still called a cambion in the full version, but my issue is at some point between ea and full release, all the differences between cambions and devils apparently just up & vanished) so if ea mizora and ea wyll, who were around the same age, met when wyll was 17, that means they met when mizora was also somewhere in the range of her mid/late teens

there's obviously still an unhealthy power imbalance there with her being his patron and all, but there's a pretty big difference between a teenage boy being manipulated by an equally as young teenage girl into signing a pact vs a teenage boy being manipulated by a fully immortal & presumably-already-grown-at-the-time woman into signing himself into her service

and the flirty/sexual dialogue being left in makes this 100x worse. originally, mizora and wyll were explicitly in a romantic relationship that had just ended right before the game started (like literally right before. as in he told you that the nautiloid snatched them up WHILE he was in the middle of giving her his breakup speech (lmao)), but there is literally ZERO reason for the full release version of their relationship to have such a weirdly charged undertone to it??

you can't just take the dynamic of "toxic high school sweethearts who just had an insanely messy breakup 3 days ago after dating for 5+ years" and slap it onto "grownass woman who manipulated a teenage boy into signing his life away to her 5 years ago" with zero acknowledgement of the fact that that changes literally everything??

like sorry, this isn't just petty exes bickering anymore. this is now reading as nonstop sexual harassment, and to someone without the context of this happening due to a messyass rewrite (or even with it tbh), it's weird as fuck that some characters get entire arcs dedicated to unpacking the trauma that comes from being trapped in this exact dynamic, but with wyll, neither he nor the player ever get a chance to try to stop it or even really acknowledge the fact that it's happening in any significant way

the sloppiness of this whole rewrite is actually insane to me

Accurate reperesnation of navigating Sinnoh in Diamond and Pearl (the black line is post game including the near impossibwl to obtain event items that gave you Darkrai, Shaymin and the Azure Flute to catch Arceus... which was never released outside of Japan becauae it was "too complicated" for children...)

What's the most workmanlike and prosaic book on story structure. Like, I have read several books on story structure and they are all either winding and narrative and philosophical or they seem geared at firing up your Natural Intuition and helpfully channeling your Gut Sense of story, neither of which I have. I need "rules on story structure for the congenitally uncreative" or something along those lines. Something painfully granular.
