Okay I know tumblr is treating EPIC as if it cleared their skin and watered their crops and I genuinely really really like it the music is excellent but I gotta say this:

I HATE the way it's presenting odysseus' arc and flaws with polyphemus. Like the problem wasn't that he was too NICE?? Where did that come from? The problem was that odysseus was a cocky lil shit and even though he had managed to get away with the nobody trick he went like "actually you got your ass beat by odysseus lol loser". Hybris-nemesis-catharsis is homer 101 and I'm SO annoyed that an entire generation of teenagers is getting this interpretation of the text. A hero giving in to being the "monster" and losing his kindness is a great arc but there are 700 other heroes you could have done that with - not odysseus.

On the other hand, how catchy is Ruthlessness, amirite?

I would like to know this as well! I will always write bc I can't help it. But it would be nice to have a nice enthusiastic fan base perhaps that grows modestly

It would be nice to earn a living w writing...... but that may not be likely and I'm definitely not just writing fast and sloppily for genre, I'm writing the kinds of books I want to write.

Instead of "20 books to $50k" or "how to increase readership by writing and publishing a book every month that is exactly like every other popular book out there," I need the kind of marketing advice that goes along the lines of, "hey, here's how to get a modest fanbase and sell enough books to justify this as a side gig without having to go crazy and spend more than you earn on marketing." Because honestly, all the advice I find these days either a) requires me to put way more time and money into marketing than I am able to do, or b) requires me to write fast and sloppy in very specific sub-genres, and that's really not why I write stories.

And like Emily Starr, I would--and will--continue to write stories regardless of how many people read them, but it would be nice to be able to reach more than a dozen readers, and to be able to reasonably look on my writing as a part-time job rather than an expensive hobby.

(It doesn't help that there are so many articles out there claiming that self-publishing is dead! It's gotten too bloated and now only a handful can make a living off it! But wait--traditional publishing is also dead! It's gotten too greedy and now only a handful can make a living off it! Mid-level authors? Whether traditionally published or self-published, they apparently no longer exist)

interesting how often jake uses brain ghost dirk to self-sabotage in one way or another - initially it's jake continuing to stubbornly and repeatedly make an ass of himself, but later in a much more serious context BGD thwarts aranea's plans for god tier jake. and not by protecting him, even if he is invoked as a protector and really actually trying to play that part - but by impeding aranea and causing jake's power-up to falter enough to be vulnerable to a crockertier forking. what the hell. why are they like that. poking them.

I think people forget that the Hexcore wouldn't have worked on Jayce?!

He would've been dusted.

The only way I see a scenario where Jayce is near death and healed by the Hexcore is if Viktor gives himself over to It in order for It to 'agree' to heal Jayce.

What do you think of the remnants as characters? If still involved in the story, albeit in a longer medium, to give space for exploring Cloud’s grief and trauma, how would you feel about them?

They're three very similar characters that all serve the same narrative purpose within the same story simultaneously— so if I had to describe how I feel about them in a single word, I'd call them "redundant."

I understand that they're supposed to be an exploration of the way that Jenova scrambled Sephiroth's soul. Manifestations of a shattered identity, grappling with the subtle difference between life and existence. But this unique idea contends for runtime with what is essentially a rerun of the OG plot: Jenova, in the form of Sephiroth et al., wants the reunion to happen so that she can become powerful again.

If they wanted Advent Children to be about Jenova, then the foundation for that already existed: in the form of geostigma, yet another new source of conflict that doesn't get properly fleshed out due to the movie's scattered attention. Therein lies the real problem: the remnants are fine in concept, but they get sabotaged by their only major appearance being in a movie that can't decide what it wants to be.

I would be interested in seeing the remnants expanded upon in a setting that doesn't compete for the spotlight with the main cast plus multiple other plot points, similar to how Ever Crisis has done so for Angeal and Sephiroth so far. I think it's unfair to the remnants that Advent Children relegates them to hardly anything more than fight scene spectacles and repetitive monologues.
