today was wonbin's birthday and all day you've been pretending that it was just a regular day
currently, you and wonbin were out and about in myeongdong just shopping with him
"are you sure you're not forgetting anything?" wonbin asks for the nth time today. giving you the side-eye as you two walk around the busy shopping district hand in hand
of course you didn't forget your beloved boyfriend's birthday. in fact, you even prepared a whole surprise party back at his dorm with the help of his best friends who were on decorating duty (you're hoping and praying it ends up well knowing how rowdy those boys could get..)
you pretended to think about what you could've forgotten before shrugging
"not that i know of. why?" you replied, looking at your now pouting boyfriend. his shoulders were now slumped as he walks in defeat.
she forgot about my birthday.., wonbin thinks to himself, slowly growing upset that you'd forget such an important date. you notice wonbin's mood has shifted and you tried your very best to not laugh at his cute pouting face. this was getting a little hard for you to hide
luckily for you, your phone vibrates. you checked your phone and saw a text message from shotaro that the dorm was all ready and you guys could head back now. with a giddy smile, you sent a quick reply that you two will be going home soon before pocketing your phone
wonbin notices you all happy and he couldn't help but question it. what was so funny to you that you were giggling like a little school kid when you barely even acknowledged his birthday?
"bin look! chrome hearts!" you point out one of his favorite brands just up ahead from where you two were at. "i want to buy something" you say, dragging him to the store
wonbin also wanted to buy something but his mood was a little ruined because he thinks you didn't care about him enough to remember his special day
"choose any ring you want, on me" you propose, pointing at the rings that were on display. for a second there, wonbin thought you finally remembered but you had to follow it up with, "i've been seeing people having couple rings so i wanted us to join in the trend"
at this point wonbin just wanted to go home and sulk. what was the point in celebrating if you didn't even remember his birthday
wonbin begrudgingly chooses a ring and you two go up ahead at the cash register to pay. you input your card information to the computer screen and whispered something to the sales associate who helped you pick your ring, promptly making wonbin a little suspicious
the sales associate nods and scurries off to the back to prepare your little gift bag.
you and wonbin sit by the complimentary chairs as you wait for your items to be packed.
"where to next, bin?" you ask, looking up from your phone. at this point, wonbin was full on frowning and being silent.
"home" he replies curtly, not even sparing you a glance as he scrolls through his phone. he just wants this day to be over with
okay that was weird, you think to yourself. maybe you overdid it. you reach for his hand to hold it but to your surprise, wonbin doesn't intertwine them like he usually does when you hold his hand. this was a telltale sign that he was actually upset. this was harder than you thought it would be, but you had to keep up the act until the surprise was revealed.
the sales associate comes back with a neatly wrapped box and with that you two were now on your way home with wonbin ignoring you the whole time
"bin" you call, hoping he'd at least look at you but of course he doesn't budge. wonbin has always been the silent type when he's upset with something
"wonbin" you call again, this time tugging on his arm, in hopes he'd actually look at your direction but he doesn't. you pout and let it go, it was bound to happen anyway knowing how wonbin could be especially when he wasn't in the mood
the car ride back to his dorm was quiet if you say so yourself. you texted the guys you're near so they should start hiding and prepping the cake
"wonbin why aren't you talking to me" you whine as you two ride the elevator up to their unit. wonbin rolls his eyes,
"you tell me" he hisses, slowly feeling irritated
you feel a little taken a back with the attitude but brush it off. you can't ruin the surprise
"what do you mean? we just spent the whole day together so why are you in a pissy mood?" you try to explain. you two were nearing the front door at this point
"you seriously don't know what day is it?" wonbin turns around to look at you with a sad look on his face. his eyes boring into your soul as he tries to look for any sign that you were just joking or something
your silence was just the answer he needed. with a defeated sigh, he opens the door to his shared dorm to be greeted with loud cheers and party poopers
the door swung open to reveal the party waiting inside, wonbin's expression transformed from one of disappointment to sheer disbelief
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY WONBIN!" the guys all yell
it took wonbin a few minutes to process what just happened. standing in front of him was all his friends, shotaro, eunseok, sungchan, seunghan, sohee and anton all carrying an array of party decorations like balloons, banners and the such. he turns around to see you smiling widely
"you think i'd forget my own boyfriend's birthday?" you grin
wonbin was speechless. he can't believe that you actually planned a whole birthday surprise for him. he was absolutely clueless. no wonder you were acting weird with him the whole day
"you remembered..." wonbin mumbles as the group all erupt in laughter at his reaction.
you wrap your arms around wonbin as you giggle, "duh! did you really think i'd forget your birthday?" you teased, ushering him inside. the sight of his friends and the birthday festivities seemed to erase all traces of his earlier disappointment.
"yeah! y/n planned this all week so it had to be perfect!" sohee interjects
"we got you good, bro" shotaro laughs as he high-fives wonbin who looked a little emotional. wonbin pinches the bridge of his nose in attempt to secretly wipe his tears
"oh, wonbin" you coo, pulling his head to your chest as you apologize profusely that you had to ignore him the whole day. the guys all laugh at you and wonbin
"i hate you guys" wonbin sniffles, pulling away as he harshly wipes his tears. "you love us!" anton counters
sungchan then lights up the two candles on his birthday cake before nudging the cake towards wonbin
"make a wish bin!" sungchan exclaims
wonbin takes a deep breath and looks at you and his friends. he closes his eyes and makes a wish
as he blew out the candles on the cake, surrounded by laughter and well wishes, wonbin couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude for you and his friends. his wish was that he hoped for many more moments like this with you by his side.
happy birthday indeed
happiest birthday to my brightest superstar, park wonbin. you are so loved. ★

ok yeah I'll bite what the fuck was Diane's problem because holy SHIT
What The Fuck WAS Diane's Problem, indeed. I lost contact with her since I quit that hellhole, and I'm not sorry. (Please picture a petite, thin, golden-blonde white woman around age 50 wearing high-end boho/athleisure clothes.) But her Fun Quirks included:
being like. weirdly dedicated to our crappy retail job at a company run by a former real estate bro. we sold fancy stone tableware and got commission, so she would hang around after her shift in case someone she'd talked to earlier came back to buy. to make sure SHE got the commission from the sale. we each had individual passcodes for the register, so she could clock out at the correct time and still get sales credited to her. a few times she got mad at me for "stealing" her sale (read: ringing someone up who she'd previously talked to, like an hour into my shift)
pushiness. EXTREME pushiness. she had amazing sales numbers, probably because she wouldn't take no for an answer. I once saw her chase a man down who had walked away from the shop, because she'd chatted with him but he hadn't bought anything. she chided me for "letting him walk away" afterwards
toxic positivity. I once commented, during a shift change, that the market where we worked seemed slow that day. with a big sweet smile, she told me to NEVER say that because we needed to be giving off positive energy that we'd get lots of sales. um. okay
as previously mentioned, being super-pumped at the idea of our boss taking our stool away and mad when I pointed out that that was, how you say, literally illegal in our state (because "nobody needs to be sitting; it doesn't look welcoming!")
her email was something like [email protected]. very business-y. I asked what her other job was. turns out that was just her personal address; she didn't have a business or a side gig or anything
She let everyone think she was a manager. We didn’t have a manager; just the owner and the salespeople.
She tried to gaslight me into thinking she had been there as long as I had (she hired on a year after me) and therefore had seniority. Again, none of us had power over each other
the stealing from the register thing, which was just bizarre. at 23, working my second post-college job, I was desperately trying not to get in trouble; at 31 I would stand my ground more. In short: the exact amount I’d taken in cash went missing a few hours into my shift, when Diane was hanging around as usual. She knew where we hid the register key when we went to the bathroom, nobody would have looked askance at her rooting around in the stall, and when I called her panicking after mid-shift drawer count, she was ADAMANT that I must have forgotten to take the cash from all three customers who had paid me that way.
To the point where, when I called the boss to report the incident and hesitantly said “I think I might have forgotten-“ she barked at me “NO. YOU KNOW. YOU KNOW THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED. YOU DON’T THINK; YOU KNOW.”
I did not fucking forget to take cash from three separate customers and if this happened today, her response would raise a huge red flag for me
There was no camera on the register area so I could never prove anything. But money went missing from the drawer “overnight” after two other people’s shifts, who hardly seemed like thieving types, and Diane was all too ready to cluck over their alleged crimes. And since she was always gunning for more shifts…I don’t know. It was just very weird.
She ultimately got her wish when almost everyone else quit- and then became burned-out by manning the stall single-handedly. Womp womp.

this is halloween || seungmin x reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Working Halloween night is just like any other night as far as you're concerned — with the promise that you'll get your pick of unsold candy in the next few days. Your coworker Seungmin, on the other hand, insists that it's one of the worst nights of the year. Who knows, maybe the night will turn out memorable for you, and not so horrible for him.
Word count: 4k
Genres: friends to lovers, coworkers to lovers
Warnings & Tags: light angst, some fluff, brief mention of past bullying, spooky atmosphere, customers being assholes.
A/N: Second installment in my Halloween mini-series! This one's for Seungmin, hope you'll like it!
Jeongin · Felix
Tumblr media
Halloween is, as far as you’re concerned, just another night that you need to get yourself through. You’re fairly neutral in your feelings about it. You don’t like the weird crowd it brings with it, but they’re not that much weirder than the people that come in on full moons, at the 24/7 convenience store where you work, and you deal with them once a month. You do like that you get first pick on the candies that go on sale right after it’s passed. Don’t like the colleagues that go all in and insist that you should get dressed up; do like that the store gets decorated and the purple, orange and black colors they always pick.
All in all, Halloween’s fine. The candies make it worth it, mostly, as far as you’re concerned. You don’t even mind entertaining the few kids that come in looking for candy. You’ve got a jar by your cash-register that you can pick from for them — company policy. This year, you’ve even agreed — with, mind you, a very pronounced eyeroll — to wear a witch hat on your head. It delighted the children, amused some of the adults, and pissed off most of the ones you didn’t like in the first place, the ones that asked you if you planned to work at a convenience store forever or commented on what it had to mean for your studies, your intelligence or the way you were raised.
The ones you like the least are the ones that tell their kids ‘see, this is where you’ll end up if you don’t do well in school’ while pointing at you.
Since the hat makes them judgmental but isn’t punishment enough for them, you also shake their carbonated drinks, discreetly mind you, before handing them back to them.
On top of the shitty, boring, rude clients, that are less frequent when you’re nights, there’s one other person that doesn’t like the hat. One person that practically hissed at you when he first walked in and you were wearing it. One person who has very strong feelings about Halloween, in that he fucking hates it.
Seungmin’s spent the past month mumbling about how Halloween used to be a pagan celebration that’s been recuperated by capitalism. It’s not like you think he’s wrong, but the whole thing has made you quite wary of how he’ll be when Christmas or Valentine’s day will come around.
Seungmin’s usually one of your favorite colleagues. You like his dry wit, the snide comments he makes about some of the weirder customers. You like that he doesn’t hesitate to step in when you’re dealing with guys that think they can make a move on you because they’re alone in the store and it’s two am. You like how he lights up when you ask him a question about basketball or how he grows shy when you talk about the singing lessons he’s been taking but is very secretive about.
Oh, and you like that he’s hot. Obviously.
Even now, when you walk by him to get behind your register and wave at him, hat firmly on your head, you can’t hold back a laugh when he shoots you an utterly disgusted look.
“Have a good night, Seungmin!” you shout at him.
“I won’t!” he yells back. You think there’s the ghost of a grin on his lips then, and you take your seat with no small amount of pride at the thought that you made him smile on Halloween night of all nights.
It’s not a great victory, but you do need it to get yourself going as you get to work. The first hours are usually the busiest ones, especially on a night like that, and you don’t have much time to yourself, whether to think, be bored, or steal glances at Seungmin over your shoulder. Even when you get the chance to do that, he’s busy himself, and you don’t get to tease him about Halloween, or laugh at one of your insides jokes.
You’ve been here for a couple of hours when a group of college students walk in, and you groan inwardly. It’s not that you mind college students as a rule, you’re one yourself most of the time — some of your best friends are college students! — it’s just that tonight, it means that they’re either here to buy alcohol for later use, and you’ll have to ask for their ID, and they might not be of age, and it’s going to be unpleasant. Or, and the alternative is actually worse, they’re already drunk from pre-gaming, and they’ll be annoying. It doesn’t help that you know they definitely won’t be the last to show up tonight.
You’d be lying if you said you weren’t relieved when they don’t pick your register once they emerge from the store, but you immediately grimace in sympathy as they line up in front of Seungmin’s.
The store’s mostly empty by now, so you don’t have much better to do than to turn around to watch the scene. There are a few regulars that you know will be making their rounds no matter what later on, and someone will have to go through the store to check the inventory in a few minutes, but that can wait a little longer.
Even through the group of young men, you can see that Seungmin’s shoulders are tense, his jaw tight. Yup, they’re drunk, and probably being assholes, because he usually doesn’t have much trouble dealing with people.
He sends them away with a tight-lipped smile and a muttered ‘have a good night’ that you can still hear from your seat, because the phrase, which you’re supposed to tell each customer before they walk through the door, is engraved in your ears by now.
You walk up to him once you’re back to being alone in the store together.
“You okay?” you ask him, more sympathetic than you were earlier.
He deadpans at you before groaning, pinching the bridge of his nose as he closes his eyes.
“People are just so loud,” he sighs.
“Aw, am I people?” you fake-pout, hoping to cheer him up, and the corners of his lips tremble but do not quite curve up.
“You’re tolerable.”
You scoff, roll your eyes playfully. You miss the way Seungmin’s eyes soften as he watches your antics.
“You want to go take a walk through the store?” you offer him, tone more serious. “Could help clear your head, though I’m afraid there are decorations up everywhere.”
Another groan, before he gets up.
“I guess I can deal with that. If I absolutely have to.” Now on his feet, he looks down at you, and his brow furrows. “Call me if there’s an issue.”
“There won’t be.”
He glares for a second more, and it’s cute actually, it’s really cute, that protective look in his eyes, but you don’t need him to be right now — except maybe to feed your ego.
“I’ll be back in a minute,” he says like it’s a warning, before walking away with one final glare. You wave your fingers at him, before going back to your spot.
Now, you have more than enough time to get bored. Your phone is in your pocket, but you’re familiar with the angle at which the cameras are filming you, and you’re not bored enough yet to risk it. That time will come, no doubt about it; it always does. You can hold it at bay a little longer though, so you do, resting your chin in your palm as you let your gaze wander over the store or slide back towards the doors. There’s stuff you could do inside the store, but you’re not supposed to leave the registers unattended, which means you have to sit there, useless, until Seungmin comes back or someone walks in.
The first option would make you happier for sure.
As the minutes stretch out into what feels like hours, and Seungmin doesn’t come back, probably having found some issue he can fix, your eyes linger on the windows. The night is pitch black outside, with the harsh, white light of the street lights that dot the parking lot as the exception. From your spot, they leave islands of perfect darkness in between them. It unsettles you, looking at it, always does, despite how long you’ve been doing this job. One of the street lights has been blinking for the past week, and no one’s bothered to do anything about it yet.
You’re staring at it, complaining internally about how unsafe it makes you feel and about how it could just decide to stop working as you’re walking under it when you’ll leave the store in the early hours of the morning to catch the first bus home, when, after one final on-off-on, the light goes off. Despite your eyes being right on it, it catches you off-guard, startles you. You wait for it to turn back on.
It doesn’t.
There’s nothing to be scared of, you’re aware of that intellectually. It’s not the first time that one of the streetlights has died on you, it’s probably happened on one of your shifts before, too. Still, one glance at your phone tells you it’s 11:59, and that is an odd enough coincidence to make you tense. You stare into the night a while longer. Obviously, there is no one out there — you would have seen them by now.
But as the numbers on your phone change to 12:00, the automatic doors slide open and a gust of wind rushes in, and suddenly you’re absolutely frozen in place, convinced, in a way that is as far from rational as possible, that there is something there.
You nearly scream when you feel a hand on your shoulder.
“Are you okay?” Seungmin asks you as he spins your chair around, a concerned frown on his face.
“I’m fine, it’s just the—” By the time you turn back around, the doors have slid close again. “The doors opened,” you say with what you hope is a nonchalant shrug, while your heart is still beating erratically, “but there was no one here. It must have been the wind.”
He looks at you a little longer, than at the doors.
“I guess,” he replies slowly. “It just better not be one of these jerks trying to play a prank on us.”
He sounds so indignant then that you have to smile.
“I haven’t seen anyone out there since these college kids left earlier. I think we’re good.”
Seungmin keeps staring at the door as though his eyes could pierce through the darkness, then, when they decidedly can’t, shakes his head.
“That’s why I hate Halloween,” he mumbles under his breath, but he’s close enough for you to catch it, something you’re doing your best not to think too much or too hard about.
“I thought it was the capitalism.”
“That too,” he says without having to think about it for even a second. “But it’s mostly the mean pranks. I’ve—” Then he interrupts himself. You wait a little, expecting him to resume the story once he feels ready. When he doesn’t, you put your hand on his, rubbing your thumb over his skin. His hand is warm under yours.
“Are you okay?” you ask. “You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
“No, it’s— fine. It’s been a long time. I guess some kids had just seen Carrie and thought it would be a really fun idea to test it on me.” He sounds annoyed at himself for still being upset about it rather than at these people, and that makes anger boil inside your chest. On the one hand, maybe it won’t do much good to express that feeling; on the other, maybe that’s just what he needs.
“What fucking assholes,” you say, and laughter spills out of his lips, his bright, toothy grin visible for the first time since the beginning of the night.
“You don’t need to have beef with thirteen year-olds for me,” he tells you fondly. “I’m sure they would never do it again.”
Sure, but that means that he’s the one that’s stuck with the effect of one ‘prank’ that they don’t have to think about again. Which pisses you off even more, actually, though this time you keep your mouth shut.
“I’m sorry, I wish I’d asked you if you wanted to take this shift. I’m sure we could have found a replacement.”
Seungmin just shrugs at that.
“Like I said, I’m fine. And I’m not going to let people scare me anymore.”
There’s something definitive to his tone, and you can tell it must be a promise he’s made to himself a long time ago. For the next seconds, it’s just his eyes in yours, your hand on his.
Then the doors slide open and old Mrs. Yang walks in, pushing her cart and dragging her elderly husband along with her. She has insomnia and likes to do her shopping without being bothered by other people, and he dutifully accompanies her each time, no matter how tired he is. Both you and Seungmin greets them with a smile.
By the time they’ve both disappeared in the aisles, Seungmin’s back in his seat.
Tumblr media
Time keeps crawling at a snail’s pace after you’ve checked them out. There are more regulars, more college students, followed by other unbothered — or slightly bothered by the presence of disguised teenagers and young adults —  regulars, and then college students again. All in all, you’d say the night goes okay. You do have to take a stern tone with some people who want to empty your bucket of sweets, something that children’s mothers usually do for you, but that’s not unexpected.
It’s around 3am that you hear Seungmin’s voice call for you. You yawn as you turn towards him.
“Did the three guys come out yet?”
You blink at him.
“Which ones?”
“Frat boys. Red shirts with their logo on it. Have you seen them come out?”
You do remember them coming in, now that he’s mentioned them. You for sure haven’t checked them out. The last people you saw were that exhausted single mother balancing her sleeping toddler on her hip, which is what you tell Seungmin. He rolls his lips together.
“They’ve been in there for a while.”
You get up, stretching and wincing as blood circulates in your body again. You pick up the coffee Thermos you never forget to bring with you — you’d probably die if you did — and show it to him while you get used to being on your feet again.
“Do you want some?” you ask. “I’ll go check where they are.”
Chances are they’ve raided the candy aisle, possibly the booze aisle. Wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened, just means you have to get ready for an unpleasant conversation. That, too, is an art you’ve unfortunately had to master since you started working here.
“Call if you need anything,” Seungmin says, and you wave at him vaguely, both to say ‘I will’ and ‘It won’t be necessary’. You can handle yourself.
After your weird experience with the parking lot light earlier, you’d think walking through the store’s empty aisles would make you uncomfortable, but the truth is, you know the place by heart. They feel familiar to you, and you see no reason to be nervous.
You start by the alcohol aisle, just to get that out of the way, and nearly breathe a sigh of relief when you don’t find anyone there. That could have gotten very messy. After quickly checking that everything is in order, you start walking again. Candy aisle it is.
As you approach it though, you have to note how quiet the store is, much more than you’d expect with three frat boys stealing and probably eating candy. It’s odd, so you’re not all that surprised when you reach it and you find it empty too, with nothing out of place as far as you can tell. Shit, you don’t want to be playing these games. You spin on your heels, ready to do what you probably should have done in the first place and make an announcement with the mic, when you see a man standing, thirty feet away from you.
The figure, you recognize immediately. A black hoodie and, of fucking course, the ghostface mask from the Scream franchise. You physically couldn’t roll your eyes any harder than you do then.
“Hilarious,” you say. “You got me. I’ll be waiting for you at check-out once you and your friends decide that you’re done playing around with minimum-wage workers.” …who are not getting paid nearly enough for this shit.
Since you’re not walking past that guy, you take a few steps towards a different aisle. When you reach it, though, there’s another man, exact same attire, exact same frozen stance. Twenty feet away from you this time. You let out a dry, unamused chuckle. You still don’t want to walk towards him, but you’re also all too aware of the fact that there’s a fucking third one hiding in wait somewhere. These guys are all bark and no bite, you’d bet on that, but you’re no less uneasy, eyes darting around to figure out an exit route.
You take a step back. The man take a step forward. You grit your teeth.
“Stop that.”
He takes another step. Fucking asshole.
You turn around, and right fucking there, right behind you, is the third one.
You scream. It just comes straight out of you before you can control yourself, and even if he’s trying to keep up the façade, you see the guy’s shoulders shake in laughter. Shit, you’re not doing this. You dart past him, intent on going back to the front of the store, but by then, the first guy has moved to be in your way. He walks towards you in a way that you’re sure is supposed to be menacing, shoulders squared, and you’re getting ready to give him a piece of your mind when, out of nowhere, Seungmin’s fist connects with the guy’s jaw.
You take way too much pleasure in the way he falls down and hits one of the display units, which leads to all the packs of pasta in it to land on him. They’re not heavy enough for it to hurt, but it still gives you intense Schadenfreude. While you’re still staring, Seungmin grabs your shoulders, looking at you with panic in his eyes, checking that you’re okay. Once he spots the two other men, he pulls you behind him, standing between you and them. It’s both endearing and pretty useless.
“Start running,” he mumbles to you before you can explain the situation.
“Dude, what the hell!” the man he just hit protests behind you, extricating himself from under all the pasta.
“Yeah, uh, these three are the frat bros,” you inform him, putting a hand on his shoulder.
“C’mon, man,” one of the two that are still standing says as he pulls his mask off, “that’s not cool.”
“You better hope he’s not injured, ‘cause—”
“They were trying to get themselves banned from the only convenience store near the college that’s opened 24/7,” you interrupt, narrowing your eyes at them, “and they figured that harassing the employees was a great way of achieving their goals.”
They seem to hesitate at that.
“It wasn’t harassment…” one of them says weakly.
“Of course it is!” Seungmin snaps, voice filled with more anger than you’ve ever heard. “We’re working here! And it’s a fucked-up thing to do, if you want to scare people because you think it’s funny, at least do it on people who have a choice!”
The three guys are starting to look more and more sheepish, in a way that you’d almost find sweet — aw, grown men who have no concept of boundaries but can still learn! — if you weren’t so pissed.
“Okay, okay, we’re leaving,” they all start saying as they take off their hoodies, giving you more than enough time to memorize the name of their frat, help their friends up and start walking away. “But you won’t ban us then, right?” one of them has the absolute nerve to ask.
“We’ll think about it!” is your shouted reply at that, which seems to satisfy them.
“We will?” Seungmin asks you quietly.
“Obviously we’ll ban them,” you reply, no louder than him. Fucking assholes.
When he turns around to face you, you’re careful to check his expression. His fists are still clenched, his jaw still tense.
“Are you okay?”
He exhales, long and hard.
“Yes.” He answers with surprising strength. Then a grin. “It felt great, actually.”
You watch him open and close his hand a few times. His knuckles are slightly bruised, but it doesn’t seem to bother him.
“Are you okay?” he asks you after a few seconds.
The question catches you off-guard. You have to take a moment to think about it, and when you do, you let out a sigh.
“I’m glad you got here when you did,” you tell him honestly. “I knew it was them, but it still was a bad experience.” Again, not the first time you’ve had to deal with weirdos in the store, so you’re not even that shaken, but having Seungmin to lean on for sure plays a big part in that. “We really need to get back to the front, we’re not supposed to leave the registers unattended,” you say with a grimace. Actually, if the boss decides to randomly check the footage for tonight, you’re as good as fired.
His hand wraps around your wrist before you can walk away.
“You should go out with me,” he says, all in one block, when you turn around.
You stare.
“What?”
His mouth hangs open as red forms on his cheekbones first before it spreads to his whole face.
“Sh– Sorry, I– That was the adrenaline talking, don’t– Don’t–”
Ah, he’s just too cute.
“No, I quite liked what the adrenaline was saying, I just wasn’t expecting it,” you say. “Could I hear it again?”
When he turns to face you, he’s just as red as before. He clears his throat and is still refusing to look you in the eye when he speaks.
“Would you— Would you like to go on a date. With me.”
“Yeah,” you say, “I would”. You could tease, you’re certainly tempted to do so, but it’s clear that it took a lot from him to even ask, and you don’t want him to think that you’re unsure. Because, well, you’re not. You’d love to go on a date with him. It makes your heart flutter in a soft, fragile way, and you know that anything after that will need to be carefully nurtured, if you wish for it to bloom, but that is something you can deal with later. For now… “Would you mind if I gave you a little preview? As a thank you?”
Seungmin swallows, then very, very slowly, he nods.
You push yourself on your tiptoes, holding both hands behinds your back, and close your eyes while you press your lips against his. It’s soft. Sweet. Your lips move against his gently, and you feel him tilt his head to kiss you back while he stands still, with the exception of one of his hands coming up to grab your shoulders, to keep you stable or to keep you from pulling away too fast, you can’t tell.
Heat spreads through you when his long fingers caress your arm, and you feel your face warm as the kiss intensifies, without either of you daring to move, too afraid of breaking the spell.
When you do pull away, you meet his eyes for a second, before he looks away, trying to hide how wide he’s smiling.
Ah, you just can’t wait for that date.

CONVENIENCE STORE / P.S
Tumblr media
Pairing ◊ seeun x reader
Warnings ◊ stress about exams? I think that's about it
Word Count ◊ 1,52k
Genre ◊ Fluff
Summary ◊ Seeun missed you, so he came in front of your apartment in the middle of the night.
a/n: honestly, theses pictures screamed boyfriend material. So I wrote something about it. Hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
You tossed and turned in your bed, staring at the ceiling as the soft sounds of your roommates’ snores filled the room. You were exhausted, but sleep refused to come. You sighed and picked up your phone to check the time—2:56 a.m. Just as you were about to put it down, your screen lit up with a message.
[Seeun-ie] You awake?
You blinked at the message, your heart flipping. You and Seeun weren’t an item but weren’t just friends. You were in a weird in-between. You met through mutual friends, and even if he was younger than you by a couple of years, you still got along excellent. You typed an answer quickly.
[You] Yeah. Can’t sleep.
[Seeun-ie] Come outside.
Your eyebrows shot in surprise. You hopped out of bed and tiptoed to the windows. You peeked through and saw Seeun in a thin blue button-up and a black jacket looking at you. When he saw you, he smiled and waved. You shook your head, a small smile tugging at your lips.
[You] What are you doing here ??? It’s almost 3 am.
[Seeun-ie] Wanted to see you. Now come down.
Sighing, you threw on a hoodie and sweatpants and quietly slipped, careful not to wake your roommates. As you stepped outside, the cool night air greeted you, and you walked toward Seeun, who greeted you with his signature smirk. He slipped his headphones around his neck and waved at you.
‘’You know it’s almost 3 in the morning, right?’’ You said as you put your hands in your pockets.
‘’Of course I do,’’ he shrugged nonchalantly. ‘’I wanted to see you. And I was hungry. Let’s go to the convenience store.’’
You rolled your eyes but followed him as he walked towards the convenience store down the street from your apartment. You couldn’t help the sale spreading across your face as you looked at him. Even under the street lights, he was breathtaking.
‘’You’re unbelievable,’’ you said, shaking your head.
‘’I know,’’ he smirked, turning his face to look at you. ‘’But you love it.’’
You fell into an easy rhythm of banter and jokes, defining your relationship. He was confident, arrogant, and cocky, but that was part of his charms.
‘’Did you really just wake up and think, ‘Oh, I should see y/n right now?’’’ You asked, eyebrows raised.
‘’Nope,’’ he replied, pushing open the convenience store door. ‘’I haven’t slept yet. Too busy thinking about you.’’
You snorted, giving him a look. ‘’Oh, please. How many girls did you use that line on?’’
He held up his hands in mock offense. ‘’Just you, I swear. I’m a changed man.’’
You shook your head again. You wandered the aisles, grabbing snacks and drinks. As you made your way to the register, you reached for your wallet in your hoodie pocket to pay, but Seeun swiftly blocked your hand. ‘’No way. I’m paying.’’
‘’I’m older, I should pay.’’ You argued, tilting your head to look at him.
He shook his head and handed cash to the cashier. ‘’I dragged you here. The least I should do is pay.’’
You rolled your eyes again but let him have this one. You sat at one of the small tables outside, digging into your snacks. The city was quiet, and the night was cool.
‘’Remember that time you thought you could out-eat me in spicy ramen?’’ Seeun said as he bit into his sandwich.
You laughed. ‘’I could I forgot. I still can’t believe you didn’t shed a single tear.’’
‘’I told you, I’m immune to spice.’’ He said a cocky grin on his face. ‘’Unlike some people.’’
‘’Ya, I can handle spice.’’ You protested, pointing a chip at him.
‘’Sure you can,’’ he chuckled. ‘’That’s why you drank an entire gallon of milk after.’’
You both bursted out laughing. That’s what you loved with Seeun. It was easy. You continued to talk and joke, the banter flowing easily. As the first light of dawn began to paint the sky pink and orange, you shivered slightly. The early morning chill was starting to creep in. Seeun noticed, and, with a dramatic sigh, he shrugged off his jacket.
‘’Here, take this.’’ He said, draping it over your shoulders before you could protest.
‘’I’m fine, really,’’ you started to say, but he held up a hand, silencing you.
‘’Just accept my chivalry for once, will you?’’ He said, smirking. ‘’Besides, I can’t have you catching a cold and blaming it on me. My reputation will be ruined.’’
You rolled your eyes but pulled the jacket tighter around you, appreciating the warmth. The jacket still had a feigned cologne scent, and a smile tugged at your lips. You leaned back in your chair, sighing. ‘’You know, I really needed this. Thanks for dragging me out.’’
Seeun smiled. It wasn’t his usual smirk, though. It was a sincere and honest smile. He loved knowing he was useful and made you feel better. He knew you had been stressed recently with school and everything and that you couldn’t sleep when you were stressed.
‘’Anytime,’’ he said, taking a sip of his lemonade. ‘’I mean, I am pretty great company.’’
‘’There he is,’’ you smiled. ‘’The arrogant Park Seeun I know.’’
‘’Admit it, you love it,’’ he said, gently squeezing your arm.
‘’Maybe,’’ you admitted, turning your head to look at him, a playful smile on your lips. ‘’Just a little, though.’’
Your phone rang with the alarm you set the day before. It was already late or early morning, so you needed to head back to your apartment to prepare for class. You sighed and stood up, stretching and gathering your things. You looked at him as he threw away all of your trash, clinging to his jacket you still had.
‘’I guess I have to go back.’’
‘’Yeah, you should probably start getting ready for class.’’ He said, a hint of reluctance in his voice.
You started walking back to your apartment. As you reached your building, he stopped and turned to face you, his usual confident smirk in place.
‘’Thanks for the jacket,’’ you said, looking up at him.
‘’No problem,’’ he said, leaning casually against the wall next to your building door. ‘’I can’t have you freeze to death. Who would I bother in the middle of the night?’’
You laughed, shaking your head. There was a brief pause, and his expression softened slightly, though his confidence remained. ‘’Hey, next time you’re feeling stressed about finals and exams, even if it’s late at night, you can call me.’’
You blinked in surprise, taken aback. ‘’How did you know I was stressed about that? I didn’t say anything.’’
He shrugged and bent down to be eye level with you, his eyes locking with yours. There was a sincerity in his eyes you hadn’t seen before. ‘’I know you, y/n. I know that when you’re stressed, you can’t sleep. And you haven’t been sleeping well, have you?’’ He said, brushing a hair of you bang to the side.
Your heart flutters at his words. His noticing something so personal and caring enough to act on it made your heart swell. You blushed and quickly looked away, taking a step back. ‘’I…’’
‘’Don’t get all emotional on me now,’’ he interrupted, straightening himself with a teasing grin. ‘’I’m just saying, if you need to talk or need a distraction, I’m here. Not only at night.’’
You smiled. ‘’Thank you, Seeun. It means a lot.’’
‘’I know,’’ he said arrogantly, but his eyes were soft. ‘’After all, who else would put up with me at 3 am.’’
You laughed, nodding slightly. ‘’You’re right, no one else would.’’
He chuckled and stepped closer once again, lowering his voice slightly. ‘’Seriously though, I don’t want you to stress all alone. If you need anything, call me. I mean it.’’
Your heart skipped a beat at the sincerity in his voice, and for a moment, you wondered where your relationship was going and if there was more than just a situationship. But you quickly pushed your thoughts aside, focusing on the present.
‘’I will,’’ you promised, looking up at him. ‘’And thanks again for tonight.’’
‘’Anytime,’’ he replied.
There was a brief pause, where you just stared into each other’s eyes. But you quickly cleared your throat, looking at the time on your phone. You sighed. ‘’I should probably get ready for class.’’
‘’Yeah, you probably should,’’  he agreed, though he made no move to leave. ‘’We don’t want you to fall asleep in the middle of a lecture.’’
‘’I’ll try not to,’’ you said, rolling your eyes.
‘’I’ll see you on campus, I guess.’’ He said, his eyes hopeful.
‘’Of course.’’
With one last look, he turned and walked away, his confidence stride never faltering. You watched him go, a big smile on your face. You clutched at his jacket as you turned and headed back inside.

‼️READING COMPREHENSION WARNING‼️
Read and comprehend the topic of this post above the "read more" link before attempting to respond. This is your only warning. Violators will be mocked and blocked.
A GUIDE TO TIPPING IN AMERICA FOR TOURISTS AND VISITORS
AND ASSHOLES WHO SOMEHOW LIVED HERE THIS LONG WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THIS
This post is going to cover tipping people in restaurants/eateries and private transportation. Tipping can also apply to many, many other service industries including but not limited to: movers, handypeople, mechanics, etc. Since this is meant to be brief and focused on info relevant to visitors and tourists, I won't discuss that here.
You're tipping 20% minimum on your food and public/private taxi rides (including lyft, uber, etc). Include this in your budget calculations for engaging with these services.
I was going to jokingly just end the post here but let me explain. Minimum wage laws in the US allow employers to pay their employees UNDER FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE if they're in an industry that receives tips on the regular. Taxi drivers are self-employed and have to pay for the costs of the lease on their vehicle, gas, and give a cut to their garage or ride service provider.
Therefore, capitalists have shifted the cost of paying a living wage to these people on to the consumer rather than the employer. No amount of arguments against tipping culture is going to magically fix this overnight. That's the long game and we're trying to abolish this shit. Therefore, you are tipping 20% minimum. Today.
Even if you did not like the food.
Even if the food was cold.
Even if the server didn't seem cheery and smiley.
Even if the taxi wasn't as fast as you wanted it.
Even if the taxi smelled a little funny or the driver didn't talk the amount you like.
If you did not suffer immediate physical harm or harassment or discrimination at the hands of the service person who provided you the service, full tip. Five stars if you have to rate them in an app. Perfect marks.
Does the above statement seem strange to you? It shouldn't, because remember: capitalists have forced you to cover the full cost of the service. THIS IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE SERVICE WORKER.
Cash is King
Tip in cash if you have it. Credit card companies can't take a chunk out of cash tips. And if someone who works a low-paying job can grab a bit of cash under the table, away from the eyes of the IRS, then they will do more economic good with that money than the tax cut that goes to pay for bombing other countries.
How do I figure out a 20% tip?
Easy. Look at the total (THE TOTAL, WITH TAX YOU FUCKING CHEAPSKATE). Double it, then divide by 10 (move the decimal place one over to the left). Round up the remainder to the nearest dollar. That's going to be at least 20%.
What about counter workers?
There is some confusion on how to tip people who work at a counter in cafes and fast food establishments. Because they are not considered tipped employees and they get minimum wage.
The rule is, if during your transaction the POS (point of sale) register asks you to add a tip, you add a 20% tip. If you see a tip jar, you tip. If neither of these things happen, you don't tip
What about food delivery?
20% minimum tip. You called/ordered via an app, and magically food showed up. In any weather. 20% tip.
Bonus Holiday section:
Let's say you're visiting America during the peak American holidays when it's either a common "dining out" holiday or a holiday where you usually spend time at home with family. This includes, in chronological order:
Valentines Day, Fourth of July Weekend (the whole weekend), Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve and Day.
You tip even more on those days. 30% minimum. I've tipped 100% on meals and rides on Christmas and Thanksgiving. Because those people are taking the time out of spending the day with friends and family, what everyone else is doing, to make sure they have enough money to pay bills and survive in America. And no you fucking bigot, you don't get to eye up the server and figure out if they celebrate Christmas or not.
FAQ:
I can't afford a 20% tip. How do I pay for this?
You can't afford the full service or experience. You don't buy it. Next question.
Where I come from, we don't tip that much/not at all. Why do I have to do this?
You're in America now. You have to do this. Please, feel free to engage the worker in a spirited debate about tipping culture if you feel like you need more info. I'm sure you'll learn something new.
I have a tipping system. You see, first I start at 10% and for every...
Your system is bad and you're a cheapskate. 20% minimum.
Hey wait a minute, I'm an American and I have strict rules about who I tip and how much. And 20% is too high! What are you talking about?
Every decent human being quietly judges you for being an asshole. You are disliked by the people around you who tip like normal people. You are not going to become rich some day because you saved $5 on a tip. Own up and tip.
I ate at an expensive restaurant. Surely I don't have to tip 20% on a bill like this, do I?
Yes you do.
Holy shit. I'm going to follow this guide but wow. Do you Americans really live like this?
Oh buddy wait till you encounter states that don't list the tax on the price tag.

Personal Tech Support
Pairing: Donna Sheridan x Fem!reader
Summary: You upgrade a few items around the island. Making Donna have to relearn technology.
Word count: 993
Tumblr media
You've always been the tech-savvy one in your relationship with Donna. From the moment you first met, it was clear that while she had the charm, creativity, and charisma to run her small hotel on the Greek island of Kalokairi, she was a bit challenged when it came to modern technology. You, on the other hand, had a knack for all things electronic and mechanical. So, when you decided to surprise Donna by upgrading a few things around her hotel, you knew it would make her life easier, even if it did come with some comical challenges.
The hotel, though full of character and history, had its fair share of quirks. The plumbing was ancient, the electrical wiring was a patchwork of DIY solutions, and the Wi-Fi, well, it was more of a "Wi-Maybe." You couldn't stand to see your girlfriend struggle with these everyday issues, so you set out to modernize the place without compromising its rustic charm.
One of your first projects was installing a brand-new espresso machine in the hotel's café. You figured it would be a hit with the tourists who frequented the place. The sleek, stainless steel beast looked like it belonged in a spaceship compared to the old, sputtering coffee maker it replaced.
The morning after you installed it, Donna stood in front of the new espresso machine, her brow furrowed in confusion. "Love, how does this contraption work again?" she asked, casting you an adorable, bewildered look. You chuckled, walking over to her. "Darling, I've shown you this at least five times. You press this button for a regular espresso, this one for a cappuccino, and this one for a latte."
Donna blinked at the array of buttons. "But which one makes a regular coffee?"
You couldn't help but grin. "The one that says 'espresso,' Donna. It's the first button."
She nodded, clearly trying to remember. "Right, the 'ex-press-oh.' Got it."
You watched as she carefully pressed the button, and the machine whirred to life, making all sorts of futuristic noises. Espresso poured into the cup, and Donna beamed triumphantly as if she'd just solved a complex puzzle. You couldn't contain your laughter. "Don't worry, love," you said, ruffling her hair affectionately. "You'll get the hang of it."
Over the next few days, you introduced more upgrades. You replaced the old landline phone with a sleek, cordless model. You set up a modern sound system in the hotel's courtyard for music during the evening gatherings. You even convinced Donna to ditch the ancient cash register in favor of a user-friendly tablet-based point-of-sale system. With each new addition, Donna's confusion seemed to grow. She'd call you over for help, even when you were just in the next room. "Sweetie, can you come here? I can't get the music to play."
You'd sigh with faux exasperation, setting down whatever you were doing to assist her. "Donna, remember the app? You just select the playlist and press play."
"I know, I know," she'd reply, rolling her eyes at her own forgetfulness. "But it's all so...fiddly."
As much as you teased her about it, you couldn't deny the joy of watching her adapt to these newfangled devices. It was endearing to see her navigate the touch screen of the tablet POS system with determined concentration, making transactions for guests with a sense of accomplishment.
One evening, as you both sat on the terrace overlooking the azure sea, Donna sipped a glass of wine and turned to you with a mischievous glint in her eye. "You know," she began, "I think you're secretly enjoying being my personal tech support." You chuckled, tracing circles on her hand. "Well, it does give me the chance to hold you close and whisper sweet nothings in your ear."
She laughed, leaning in to steal a quick kiss. "You do have a point there."
As the summer days passed, Donna's tech anxiety began to wane. She'd proudly tell you about how she had successfully made a latte without any assistance, or how she'd mastered the art of Bluetooth pairing for the speakers. She even dared to experiment with the espresso machine, trying her hand at creating intricate latte art.
One morning, you walked into the café to find her diligently working behind the counter. She held up a cup with a heart-shaped design in the foam. "Look at this, my love!" she exclaimed. "I made a heart!" You couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "That's fantastic, Donna! You're becoming a pro."
But just as you thought her tech-related troubles were a thing of the past, a new challenge emerged. You had upgraded the hotel's Wi-Fi, and while it was now faster and more reliable, Donna couldn't quite grasp the concept of network names and passwords.
"Darling," she called from the reception desk, "what's the code for the Wee-Fee again?"
You sighed, resigning yourself to another round of explanations. "It's Wi-Fi, Donna. And the password is 'KalokairiSunshine.'"
"Right, right," she replied with a nod, jotting it down on a piece of paper. You couldn't resist teasing her. "Donna, I've told you the password at least ten times. It's 'KalokairiSunshine,' like our beautiful island."
She laughed, folding her arms and giving you an impish look. "Well, maybe I just enjoy hearing you say it, my tech genius."
You shook your head in mock exasperation, but deep down, you cherished these moments. Donna's quirks, her playful nature, and her ability to embrace change, even if it came with a learning curve, were all part of what made her so special to you.
As the sun set over Kalokairi, casting a warm, golden glow across the hotel, you couldn't help but feel grateful for the chance to be Donna's partner in both love and technology. In your eyes, she was the heart and soul of the hotel, and you were more than happy to be the one who helped her keep it running, one espresso at a time.

Series Masterlist / Main Masterlist
The heat was stifling in the back of your shop. Silently cursing the fact that Ethan hadn’t been generous enough to fix the air conditioning you wiped at your brow before deciding you couldn’t focus on the sewing in front of you enough to do a decent job of it.
At the front of the shop, you threw open the door, the air was hot, so you weren’t sure what you were hoping to achieve by it but the warm breeze now flowing through was enough to give you some temporary relief.
Setting yourself behind the cash register and pulling your book out to take a break was all you could focus on doing right now. Thankfully, a welcome distraction appeared in the form of Javier, arms laden with clothes.
“Afternoon querida,” He greeted, “Pops sent me down with some clothes, can I leave them with you?”
You’d barely seen him since Gabriela’s wedding the previous weekend. If anyone had watched you dance together then no-one had told Ethan about it because you hadn’t faced any of the consequences normally reserved for so much as looking at Javier. He was out of town in New York for some kind of sales meeting and you the relief you’d felt as soon as he’d closed the door and left was indescribable.
“Sure thing,” You nodded, “What’s wrong with them?”
“Just holes of varying descriptions, some of the seams have popped, the usual ranch acquired casualties.”
You laughed, taking the pile, “I’d say that I would take them and sort them now but it’s far too hot back there to concentrate, so I’ll sort them as soon as I can and then bring them around if that’s okay?”
“Of course,” He smiled, “Do you not have AC?”
“Well, I did, it’s broken and when I had someone come to check it out, they said the whole thing needed replacing, Ethan said the price was extortionate and that it wasn’t worth the money.”
“Well Ethan isn’t the one who needs to work here all day, is he?” Javier countered, “If it gets much hotter in here, you’re going to make yourself sick.”
“If it gets too bad then I can just take some of this stuff home with me,” You pointed out, “Means shutting up shop but not many people pass through anyway.”
“You should get it fixed, querida.”
“With what money, Javi?”
“Okay, here’s an idea,” He mused, “How about we stop waiting for people to come to you, and take you to the people?”
You furrowed your brow, “I’m not following?”
“The farmers market, on Saturday,” He explained, “We get you a stall and you can take those shirts you’ve been making and sell them there, hand out cards whilst you do it for the repairs you do.”
You had to admit that it was a good idea. You had piles of shirts perfect for the ranchers just piled up gathering dust and Gabriela had bought you a bunch of business cards as an opening gift when the shop first opened.
“It’s a good idea.” You admitted.
“I know it is, let me go and talk to the guy in charge, Pops knows him so it should be pretty straight forward, and you’ll have your shiny new AC unit before you know it.”
He turned on his heel to leave but you reached out and grabbed his arm, pulling him back around to look at you, “Thank you Javi,” You smiled, “I really mean it, I appreciate this. I appreciate you.”
He smiled back, “Anything for you, querida.”
*
Javier had stuck true to his word and spoken to Mitch, who had allocated you a stall at the market without trouble. The pitch he’d given you was right at the entrance, one of the first stalls people would walk past and you wondered if Javi had anything to do with that, but you decided to push that thought to the back of your head as you folded another shirt into a bag, Gabriela throwing in a business card as you handed it to the customer and took their cash in return.
Gabriela threw herself back down into the chair she’d brought, resting her ankles with a hand on her bump, “You can go home you know?” You offered, it was hot, and you knew she was struggling, fanning herself and taking a sip of the lemonade she’d bought from the stall a few rows down.
“And miss your entrepreneurial debut?” She snorted, “Not a chance, besides, it won’t be long until this one takes away any semblance of social life I’ve ever had, I’m in it to the end, celebratory drinks at the bar and everything.”
“Hola, Mija.” A familiar voice draws you from your conversation with Gabriela.
“Chucho!” You greeted warmly, “How are you today?”
“I’m good,” He smiles, “Javi assured me you might have some shirts I’d be interested in.”
“He would be right,” You replied, eyes searching the crowd behind him for Javier, “Have a rummage through and see if there’s anything you like.”
“He’s just picking up some ingredients for our meals this week,” Chucho states as his eyes look at the shirts displayed on your stall, “He’ll stop by in a minute.”
You looked to Gabriela who was smirking to herself, they both had you read like a book when it came to him.
“Find anything you like, Pops?” Came his voice as he emerged from the crowd behind Chucho, a paper bag filled to the brim with what looked like an assortment of vegetables.
He set it down on one of the empty spaces on your table as he thumbed through the shirts himself, pulling out one you’d made in a rush over the past few days in order to have enough to sell. It was a light beige colour with a checked pattern of reds and browns. Chucho had settled on a similar style but in a deep red colour with a green pattern instead. Chucho took Javi’s pick and handed them to you, you diligently bagged them up and took Chucho’s payment.
“Take those to the truck, Pops, I’ll be there in a minute.”
Chucho tipped his hat to you in a goodbye and left, “How is it going?” Javi asked.
“Well, the table was full a few hours ago and I don’t have much left, so I think it’s safe to say it was a success.” You smiled.
“Well, I’m glad,” He smiled back, “You should really thank the guy who came up with the idea.”
“I’m not really sure how.” You spoke softly, Gabriela dragging you out of your flirting with a cough.
“Javi, we’re heading to a bar after so she can count her takings and celebrate, you should come!” Gabriela said, standing from her chair.
“How many of you are going?” He asked, obviously fishing for whether he’d need to spend time in close quarters with your husband.
“It’ll just be Gabriela and her husband and me,” You answered, “Ethan is still away working.”
“Well, why don’t you girls stay put whilst I take Pops home and I can come back and drive you all there?”
You nodded in agreement and parted with a plan that Javi would come back in the next few hours.
“He’s always been a nice guy, hasn’t he?” Gabriela mused as she started folding shirts to pack away, the crowds thinning slightly.
“Gabriela, behave yourself.” You warned, following her actions.
“I was just making an observation,” She held her hands up in a fake surrender, “But don’t think I didn’t notice the two of you dancing at my wedding,” She smirked, “You looked happy, Chica, for the first time in years, he brings out something good in you, he always has.”
You sighed, trying to busy yourself with packing down, “Too bad he didn’t stick around.” You mumbled, mainly for yourself.
“You were the one that just let yourself coast through whatever plan your mother had for you,” Gabriela prodded, knowing it was a sore subject, “If you’d have said no things could be different.”
“I did it for my papa, Gabriela.” You shot, tone dangerously close to a fight.
“And he more than anyone would hate what you put up with, how unhappy you are.”
“Can we just drop it please?” You pleaded, “It’s been such a nice day, I don’t want to fight.”
She pulled you into a hug, trying not to squish her belly too far into you, “I’m sorry chica,” She spoke into your cheek, “I just want you to be happy.”
*
“Sixty, Eighty, one hundred.” You called as you slapped down the last of the notes on the bar table, just in time for Javier to place three cold beers and a bottle of soda down, “Oh my god, that’s halfway to what I needed!” You exclaimed, all three of your friends breaking out into grins and congratulations.
You sat down, shuffling into the booth so Javier could sit next to you. He was sat across from Diego, Gabriela’s husband, who gratefully took the beer he’d offered.
“Well, here’s to a new AC unit,” You smiled, watching as everyone clinked their bottles together before sipping them, “And to Javi, for the great idea.”
You’d chosen a different bar to normal, one that was further out of town, mainly to avoid any of Ethan’s friends who would be hanging around, ready to report back to him that they’d seen you with Javier. It was quieter than your usual place and you could smell something delicious wafting from the kitchen.
“I want wings,” You declared, “Anyone else?” There were nods around the table.
“I’ll come with you,” Diego offered, “My treat.”
Javi moved to let you out of the booth before sitting back down, scooting across so he was opposite Gabriela. She wasted no time in getting down to business, something that Javi had always enjoyed about her.
“You make her really happy, you know?” She asked, “I know you probably don’t see it, but since you’ve been back, she’s been different, I just wanted to say thank you for bringing my best friend back.”
Javier could do nothing other than smile, “I really upset her when I left,” He admitted, “And when I didn’t reach out, I knew I was hurting her more, but I guess I thought it was for the best.”
“Between the two of us,” Gabriela began, leaning forward on the table, “She’s always needed to learn the hard way, you can talk as much sense into her as you think she needs but she’s always going to have to make mistakes and make the wrong choices to learn what she wants.”
“That why she got married?”
Gabriela scoffed, “She got married because her mama forced her Javi, I had weeks of her on my porch in tears, saying she didn’t love him and that she didn’t want the big dress or the church wedding, that she was going to pack up and run away, I think at one point she actually did pack her bag, but then when her dad got sick everything changed,” She shrugged, “It was fucking horrible but her mama cashed in on it, getting it into her head that he wanted to see her married before he died and she just rolled over and let it happen.”
There was on question on Javier’s lips that he wanted to ask. He wasn’t blind, he’d seen how Ethan had spoken to her when they’d been at his house for dinner, he could see the way he looked at her, like she was his property, “Does he hurt her?”
Gabriela shook her head, “She’s never admitted it, but I can put two and two together,” She leant back in her seat, “We’ve planned things together, dinners, movies, shopping trips, you know, the stuff all best friends do together and then she’ll call and cancel at the last minute with excuses like she’s sick or she’s got a headache and then I won’t see or hear from her for a week and then everything will be back to normal,” She shrugged, “I can’t help her if she doesn’t tell me and even when I ask the answer is always some form of no but I’ve never believed her.”
Javi nodded, trying to keep his anger at bay. He couldn’t imagine anyone hurting you. You were sweet and all you’ve ever wanted to do with anyone you’d met was make them happy. How Ethan couldn’t see that, see what kind of prize he’d one with that ring around her finger, he would never understand.
“He doesn’t deserve her,” Gabriela insisted, “And she doesn’t deserve to be miserable for the rest of her life, you’ve opened her up so much in just a few weeks, I’m begging you Javier, please do the rest.”
He was about to ask what she meant when you and Diego came back to the table, arms laden with wings and fries, “I hope everyone is hungry, we went a bit overboard.” You put the food in the middle for everyone whilst Diego dashed back to the bar and came back with another round of drinks.
The rest of the evening was nice. You chatted about everything and nothing at all, no-one really asked Javier about Colombia which you could tell he was grateful for. Gabriela did her best to tell the table the horror stories of pregnancy which was enough to swear you off it for the rest of your life. Diego and Javi spent some time talking about the boats they’d seen heading upriver, surmising it was drug runners, but you hadn’t really been paying attention.
You had to admit it was lovely. Not having to worry about Ethan getting too drunk, saying something to upset someone or trying to start of fight. There was no possessive hand on your hip or a hushed whisper in your ear to tell you not to look so miserable because you were embarrassing him. Just four friends drinking and laughing together. You felt light.
“You want one?” Javi asked, gesturing to his cigarette packet.
You nodded and followed him as he scooted from the booth to lead you outside, not wanting to subject Gabriela to a face full of smoke.
“I’m proud of you, you know?” Javier mused once he’d lit both your cigarettes.
You looked up at him and grinned, “It was all your idea,” You shrugged, “I just turned up.”
Maybe it was the two shots of tequila you’d taken with Diego in secret at the bar whilst waiting for you food, or the four bottles of beer you’d finished over the course of the night, but something dangerous was boiling in your blood. Reckless, you realized, you were feeling reckless.
“Hey Javi?” You spoke, getting his attention so he would turn to you.
As soon as he did, you stood on tiptoes and pressed a quick, soft kiss to his lips, lingering long enough for him to know it hadn’t been a slip up but short enough to hopefully leave him wanting more. When you stood back on your flat feet, he was back on you almost immediately, cigarette dropped to the ground, yours following not long after as his hands cradled your face, and his lips were back on yours.
You’d dreamed of this moment for years. What would he taste like? Cigarettes, beer and something you could quite place. What would it feel like? Like the whole world around you had melted away and you were the only thing he had that could sustain him. Would he take things slow, or would it be rushed and messy? Slow, his mouth opening in order to deepen the kiss, letting his tongue mix with yours at a pace that told you he had all the time in the world. Would it be everything you’d ever dreamed of? Yes, and then some.
He pulled back and you opened your eyes, his face was still dangerously close to yours, just the smallest of movements and you could consume his mouth with your own again. You almost did, until the door to the bar opened. Instinctively you stepped back and you were glad you did, Gabriela and Diego were there.
“We’re gonna head home, my ankles are screaming.” Gabriela announced, “Want a ride back?” She asked you.
You looked at Javier who’s face betrayed nothing of what just happened, or what he was feeling in that moment, “Sure, saves you taking me to the other side of town and then driving back here to go to the ranch.” You speak, half to Gabriela and half to Javi.
There’s a brief goodbye, Javi shakes Diego’s hand and gives him the customary manly clap on the back and then Gabriela receives a hug. He gives you a similar hug to Gabriela, not getting too close and you’re thankful because there is a want coursing through your blood that makes you feel like if he pressed his body to yours, you’d rip off every inch of material from his body and fuck him in the parking lot.
*
It's late and you can’t sleep. Somewhere between Gabriela dropping you off and this moment right now, led on your back staring at your ceiling, you’d decided it was all a big mistake, but not from your point of view. How could Javi want you like that? It’d been a long waiting game to see him come back, you were almost convinced he wouldn’t at one point. How could he want you, with your pathetic life and a wedding ring around your finger.
You push back the sheets and start getting dressed. It was irrational but you needed to know. You needed to ask him. Then you could move on, go back to being miserable and trying your best not to upset your husband enough that he hit you. Go back to your floundering business, sewing up the odd hole for someone and wishing you’d taken the opportunity to run whilst you could have.
Unbeknownst to you, Javier is having the same argument with himself of Chucho’s porch. Glass of whiskey half abandoned on the floor he’s thinking there’s no way you could want him. No way that the girl who had always been sunshine personified could want all his sharp edges and dark thoughts. No way you could want to lie next to him and listen to the nightmares or to let his mind wander to all those people dead because he couldn’t do his job properly.
That’s why the headlights at the end of the ranch driveway were a surprise. They cut out and at first, he couldn’t see who it was opening the door and barreling towards the front porch with purpose. Then he realized it was you and he couldn’t quite believe it. As you came to a stop on his porch in front of him he could tell you were frazzled, your hair was a mess from what he could only assume was the same tossing and turning he did every night when he couldn’t find sleep, and he could tell from the redness around your eyes that you’d been crying.
“Do you regret it?” You asked.
“Querida, I…”
“Do you regret kissing me, Javi?” You cut him off.
“I could never regret anything with you hermosa.” Was his answer without even thinking.
You stepped back from him, “Fuck!” You exclaimed, “God this would have been so much easier if you’d said yes.”
“Hey, hey calm down.” Javier attempted to soothe you, standing from his seat on the porch to put his hands on your shoulders.
“I hate him, Javi,” You were crying now, tears flowing freely down your face, “I hate how he makes me feel, hate what he’s turned me into, the way I felt when we kissed earlier is the first time I’ve felt genuinely happy since before you left for Colombia, I just want something good in my life again.”
“Querida, I’m not the same man I was before I left,” He warned, “Colombia… it did things to me, made me do things I’m not proud of, things I don’t know that I can ever make right, there’s something here,” He says, hand to chest, “That I worry about, I don’t want to bring any more misery to your life.”
“I have waited years for you Javier Peña and I will not let you talk yourself out of this, I won’t let you talk me out of it.”
“Do you really understand what you’re asking for?” He asked, searching your eyes for doubt, you nodded in response, “You need to say it.” He demands.
“I’m asking you to give me respite Javi,” You speak softly, “I need you to take me away from my misery, even if it’s for an hour, a day, however long we might have,” You stopped and looked into his eyes, “Please don’t make me beg for you again.”
He takes hold of your hand in a gentle way that you don’t think you’ve ever experienced and leads you to the bench on the porch. He sits down and gestures for you to do the same which you do, a gasp leaving your lips when he drags you into his side, arm wrapped around your shoulders and a kiss pressed to the top of your head.
Your eyes close and a tear falls down your cheek. It is the most intimate you’ve been with anyone in months, and he hasn’t taken a single item of your clothing off your body.
“If you want me, I’m yours hermosa, in whatever way that has to be.” Javi speaks softly, another kiss dropped to you, this time to your forehead as you look up at him.
You sit up and turn your body towards his, finally pressing a kiss to his lips, pulling back just enough to utter the words, “I want you, Javier, more than the air that I breathe.”

have you noticed that time’s antiques has a CRAZY amount of ceiling lights? and whenever luke is there every light is on? his electricity bill must be absolutely crazy. not to mention he has a literal DARTBOARD in his detective office. this has led me to realise that not only is his taste in clothing questionable but his interior design skills are also bizarre
omfg yes YES luke's interior design tastes are BIZARRE and hes a WEIRDO (affectionate)
i now feel possessed to screencap everything in his building that i am either baffled by or want to point out because i found it cool. buckle up, i (as always) have a lot to say
so let's go on a tour of luke's home
FIRST FLOOR: THE ONE FREE OF MOST SIN BY VIRTUE OF BEING AN ANTIQUE SHOP
Tumblr media
a lot of my confusion here can be waived since it's an antique shop and those are meant to be crowded and kitschy and maximalist, thats their whole Thing and i love that. like, the lights, which uve already commented on, there are SO MANY but theyre charming to me here because it fits, this disparate chaos but still emanating warmth
tho that being said ive noted down some bits that do still pique my interest
EXHIBIT A: antique cash register. given its placement on the counter/main table, i assume it's used for actual business and not an item for sale. of course, it could just be for display, but im jarred because it's right next to the High Tech Touch Screen. do people in stellis even pay with cash anymore? they seem to be hugely digital even in currency. it'd be funny if this thing WERE used for actual business and it's filled with all of luke's loose change and coins that he has trouble getting rid of so he instead foists them off to unwitting customers
EXHIBIT B: my only real complaint for this portion because how can any customer get to those drawers, theyre BLOCKED BY OTHER STUFF
EXHIBIT C: alright antique TV but i cant tell if it's just showing a random VHS tape or if it's doubling as luke's CCTV camera display. cuz it kinda looks like CCTV display of a road. which, honestly, is pretty cool!! it's a fun marriage between old tech and new. this is something im less confused by and more just something i wanted to point out cuz it delighted me to think about
SECOND FLOOR: NOT NECESSARILY CONFUSING BUT GOD IT IS SO MESSY IN HERE LUKE LET ME IN HERE I NEED TO CLEAN THIS ROOM
Tumblr media
EXHIBIT A: certificates!! this is cool, i wish we could see them clearer. i guess these could be luke's PI certification though maybe one of them could also be his master's degree? which would be odd to have displayed in a detective agency given his degree is in bioengineering but itd be funny to match vyn who has his Two Doctorates on display in his office HAHA
EXHIBIT B: luke, please tidy up
EXHIBIT C: door with 221 B on it which i think is super cute. hes such a nerd hes just got that blatant sherlock reference in his literal detective agency office, so everyone who walks in will know that he is not only a detective, but also a fanboy. im not sure if this door is what leads to his third floor home but itd be SO LOVELY if yes!!
EXHIBIT D: luke, please tidy up
EXHIBIT E: peanut's bird perch!!!! this is endearing to me because it looks like such a....such a Gym Flavored Bird Perch kjhJHVSDFH LIKE it's made of metal and chains and not at all like most bird perches u'd find that are usually a wooden or more natural design. this is a bird perch for birds that work out. maybe luke made this for peanut himself to get peanut to exercise. peanut is offended by this. peanut perches on it regardless
EXHIBIT F: luke, please tidy up and god if u keep missing throwing trash into the trash can just moVE THE TRASH CAN CLOSER TO UR DESK
EXHIBIT G: luke, please tidy up
EXHIBIT H: luke, please tidy up
EXHIBIT I: luke, please tidy up
EXHIBIT J: luke, please tidy up
EXHIBIT K: dartboard!!! which u mentioned. i like that it's here in the detective agency office floor because i get to imagine luke stumped on a case and then playing some darts to help himself refocus <3
THIRD FLOOR: LUKE PEARCE, I HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS
Tumblr media
EXHIBIT A AND EXHIBIT B: okay my question here was gonna be "hoop lights?? tiny ladder????" but i answer it myself in a post wayyy wayyyyyy back where i talk abt how i think these interesting furnitures are there for Peanut Pearce Enrichment. it simply makes no sense if i dont assume this, but that aside, it's endlessly endearing to me to think that luke has fashioned a bunch of his living space to give joy to his emotional support birdson. imagine peanut hopping up that tiny ladder! or flying thru one hoop light and perching on another! avian paradise :D
EXHIBIT C: luke's palette bedframe....god this thing drives me nuts. it's not BAD but what gets me about is that it seems like such a stub-ur-toe hazard, a bruise-ur-lower-shin hazard, and a tripping-over-this-corner-that-sticks-out-and-is-on-the-path-of-foot-traffic-otw-to-the-kitchen hazard. the clumsy will be HARMED!!!!! LUKE, WHY WONT U GET A PROPER BEDFRAME!!! OR AT LEAST FIX THIS BEDFRAME TO BE THE EXACT SIZE OF UR BED SO IT ISNT THAT MUCH OF AN INJURY MAGNET JKAFVAJHFVA im on my knees....
EXHIBIT D: why on earth does he have a whole cupboard filled JUST with camera lenses. wait brb //asks a friend who is has a professional photographer dad............ok nvm hes off the hook for this one, apparently this is normal for photographers. im simply diagnosing luke with dedicated nerdery once again then. i love him dearly.
EXHIBIT E: HE WAS A GAMER BOI, SHE SAID SEE YA L8ER BOI!!!!! man peep all them games!!!! and his consoles next to them!!! i hope luke plays matches against other ppl and that hes Fucking Terrifying to other players. i know we've seen him game with mc and hes mostly adorable, but when hes gaming against non-mc individuals......i hope luke pearce is accidentally going Raven Mode against some random 13 year olds in apex legends or something. just because itd be so damn funny.
EXHIBIT WE'RE SAVING THIS FOR LAST: this is the most baffling to me among all the things in this whole building. it's a....trash can? but Not. it's a large trash can shaped container used for containing things, which, okay, that could work. but luke is using it to contain MAGAZINES????? AND ROLLED UP PAPERS?? im speechless. that is simply the most non-intuitive container to go for when thinking "hm, where should i put these objects made of paper, a material famously known for their flatness" aND HIS CHOICE OF CONTAINER IS A CYLINDER ?¿¿?¿??¿????LUKE!!!!!.
luke is a strange little guy. hes also the epitome of cluttercore. im obsessed with everything about him.

Why'd you give keith the tiniest little waist ever /pos
To answer your question, because 1) it's canon:
Tumblr media
and 2) because it's fun.
On a slightly more "showing my age" note, I am assuming your /pos here doesn't mean you are calling me a piece of shit? Or at least, that's what I'm hoping, as that's what I know those letters to mean.
That and point of sales system, but I doubt even more you are calling me a cash register...

Brozone diner au: the day John Dory took off part two
"We're talking about forcing John Dory to take a day off. Like an actual day off. Even when we're closed on the mandatory holidays, he's still here doing something. Cleaning, stocking, rearranging, all kinds of stuff. He needs at least a day to just relax and probably catch up on sleep.” Bruce answered, waving his hands about as he talked. "Ah, ok. Yeah that's gonna be hard. We need to come up with a plan before we do anything else. We need to think of every possible outcome and prepare for it." Branch said, already writing down outcomes. “Or, or, hear me out, we play the health card." Floyd said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. The rest of them gave him a confused look, unsure of what he meant. “We play the health card, the card he plays with me when he thinks I'm ‘working too much’. He says I need to take time for my health and take care of my body. Pull a uno reverse on him. He needs to do the same so when he tries to wiggle his way out of it, we can point out all the things that are causing him stress, anxiety, high blood pressure or anything else. Like working a dinner rush causes high anxiety and stress. Constantly lifting trays full of dishes can cause carpul tunnel. Not to mention the toll it takes on one's mental health. I very rarely get angry customers, he seems to get them all the time, which causes more stress. We just say we're worried about his health, he can't refuse because then he'll be brushing off our worries and he doesn't want to do that. Boom, full proof plan.” Floyd said confidently, crossing his arms. "That's so smart, I'm surprised I didn't think of it first.” Clay said, staring at Floyd, a bit dumbfounded. Floyd was about to stand up and argue with Clay about what that was supposed to mean when Bruce held up his hands.  “Ok but when should we do this? We can't just go out there without an idea of when would be a good time to do this." Bruce said, thinking aloud. "Sunday. Probably in the evening. That way he can't argue about taking Monday off. It's our slowest day. So he won't have to worry about us being busy and can actually relax." Branch said, the plan coming together. The brothers quickly went back to work to avoid alerting John Dory to their plan, playing it off as if they were killing time.
Sunday evening comes and all of them are beat, it was the busiest day they had had in a while, making several thousand dollars worth of sales. After closing up, the younger brothers give each other a nod, silently saying it's time to put their plan into action. They went to the office, standing in the doorway as John counted their registers and safe with Clay (Clay just double checking JD's work). "How you doing John Dory?" Floyd asked nonchalantly. “Good." John replied before continuing to count. “You sure? You seemed a bit tired today. Like you needed a break." Bruce said, leaning his back on the door frame casually. “Yeah I'm fine. I guess I didn't get very much sleep last night." John Dory said before handing a stack of cash for Clay to count. Clay barely looked up, they added more details to the plan, like who was gonna say what and in what order. John wrote down the numbers and entered them into the system, a few seconds of silence passed before Branch butted with his own line. “Do you ever get enough sleep? Always seems like you're here late and open early. When do you sleep?” Branch joked, shooting John a cheeky grin that was met with a stern look. "Well I sleep after I clock out and close up. Then I wake up to come open this place up. Some nights it's takes longer to close up. Like today, that was the busiest we've been in like, a month.” John said, taking all the money from Clay and putting it in the safe.  "Maybe you should take tomorrow off then.” Branch said sincerely, subtly giving JD the puppy dog eyes. They could see the hesitation in John's face, that was Floyd's signal to go in for the kill. “He's right. It's not healthy to overwork yourself. We worry about you sometimes. It's only because we care about you and your health. When was the last time you had a day off?" Floyd's voice was sweet and gentle, asking a question they all knew the answer to: never. John Dory looked like a deer in headlights, unsure of how to respond. “When was the last time you had a day off John?" Clay questioned, knowing where this line of questioning should go. John Dory got very quiet and tried to avoid eye contact with his brothers. “When was it?" Bruce said directly. John mumbled out an answer, prompting a ‘hmm?’ out of Bruce. “I don't remember." John said quietly but it sounded deafening in the silent office. “WHAT?!?" the younger three said, being a little overdramatic. “John, working non stop is not healthy. You're gonna get burnt out. You should really take a day off at least. You make me worried, man.” Clay said worriedly, causing John to cringe a little. "Clay's right, John. We worry about your health sometimes. You should take the day off, if not for yourself, for us at least.” Floyd said gently, coming over and placing his hand on John's shoulder. They had him right where they wanted him. The office got quiet again, the seconds passing felt like hours. They continued to look at John expectantly until he finally caved. Alright, fine. I'll take tomorrow off. But you guys call me if you need me. And Clay, you're opening, Branch you're closing.” John Dory said defeatedly, Branch and Clay groaning in annoyance. They knew they couldn't openly cheer for their success but opted for teasing their brother about what he was going to do on his day off. As John locked the door, Bruce cleared his throat, catching John's attention. “Oh and John?" “Yeah?" John said as he put his keys back in his pocket.  “Stay out of the diner tomorrow. A day off is not meant to be spent at your place of work." Bruce responded in a no nonsense kind of tone. John Dory rolled his eyes, pissed off a little that his baby brothers were trying to tell him what to do. “We're serious John Dory. You don't see us in there on our days off. And the only time we are is when we're with friends. So just take a day away from the diner. I promise we'll call you if we need you.” Floyd said, placing his hands on John's shoulders, letting him know how serious he was. The others looked at John with the same serious look, he inwardly groaned annoyed with his baby bros.

Double Daddy Part 10
Notes: sorry that this took so long and sucks so bad.
Steve headed out the door with El and Will, excited to go to the arcade. You however were dreading going to the store with Joyce. The car ride there was silent as she pulled up and parked in front of Sears, next to that was the baby surplus store. You quickly got out of the car and followed closely behind Joyce as she rambled off a list of things to look at. As she approached the maternity section you continued to stand sheepishly behind her while she started looking through the many racks of clothes. Shortly after a sales lady came over to greet the two of you, “hello ladies are we finding everything ok over here?” She said with a sickly sweet smile.
“Oh yes, just looking for some pants and maybe a few tops,” Joyce said back without making eye contact with the lady.
“Well you look like you couldn’t be very far along, I guess it’s always nice to be prepared. We have all our jeans on this rack, stretch pants are located on the table here and then the tops are here” she said gesturing around the store.
“Oh thank you, but we are actually shopping for her” Joyce said, still not looking up from the clothes so she clearly missed the concerned look etched out on the sales associate's face. You rolled your eyes as the lady headed back to the cash register whispering to a fellow co-worker.
“Can we please go now?” You said in an irritated voice.
“Honey we just got her, we should look around. Plus Eddie isn’t due to meet us at the baby store for another 30 minutes”
You roll your eyes again but follow closely behind Joyce, quickly agreeing to anything she held up. Once she checked out she took the bags to the car as you headed into the baby surplus store. The second the doors opened you were overwhelmed, everything that was related to a baby was in there. Who knew a baby needed so many things? Before you could finish taking it all in, Eddie walked up next to you, greeting you with a weak smile.
“You came” you almost whispered.
“Of course I did, man it looks like a daycare threw up in here” he said back and you giggled.
“Uh so how are you feeling? Still getting sick?” He questioned as he looked down at his dirty Reebok sneakers.
“It’s better, not as often. She just likes to use my bladder like a stress ball now” you reply with a small chuckle.
Joyce joined the two of you and you walked around the store, taking it all in. Joyce went on small rants about different things a baby would need and why.
“Well what’s most important? Like what would we need right away” you finally cut her off, starting to feel overwhelmed again.
“Hmm first you need to decide if you want to breastfeed or formula feed. That will help you figure out how many bottles to buy. Then you’ll need a safe space for the baby to sleep.”
She pulled you both along down each isle, pointing out the must haves and the things to pass on. Both you and Eddie felt equally dizzy as she ranted on all the supplies. At the end of the shopping trip you stood near the check out playing with a small bunny blanket in your hands. Joyce was busy talking to a store employee, signing up for the coupon book.
“That’s adorable” Eddie said over your shoulder, making you slightly jump. You nodded in return as you stared at the little blanket in your hands.
“We should get it” Eddie finally said.
“No way, I think there are a ton more things I should be saving for then a little toy” you replied, placing the blanket back into the bin.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something..”
“Oh that’s never good,” you chuckle, “what’s going on”
“Well I haven’t exactly told Wayne about this .. situation. I mean he is definitely suspicious after you came over that one day but we haven’t had a conversation about it” he lets out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding in.
“Ok well what does that have to do with me?” You questioned as you crossed your arm over your bump.
“I was hoping you would come over for dinner Saturday night and help me tell him” Eddie said in one long sentence.
“No way you weren’t there to help me when I told my dad” you scoffed.
“Well that’s not fair, first your dad is a cop he would have murdered me and gotten away with it if I was there for that. Second, you didn’t even tell him, he found out.”
“Either way it’s not happening, buddy” you said, turning around to look for Joyce.
She runs over with the coupon book in hand and a huge smile across her face.
“Guess what! They have free birthing classes for first time parents, I signed you guys up! It will be such an amazing experience for you two!” Joyce beamed.
Your face got red hot and you swallowed thickly saying, “I don’t think we would be in to that Joyce”
“Oh nonsense!”
“I think I’m busy that day, sorry y/n” Eddie replied.
“She didn’t even tell you what day it was, asshole” you said with an eye roll.
“Oh right, it’s sunday afternoon” she stated, handing you a small appointment card with the information scribbled down.
“I’ll give you a few minutes to discuss the details, I’ll be waiting for you in the car y/n” Joyce said as she started toward the car.
“Do you think somehow we can get out of that” Eddie said pointing down at the appointment card in your hand.
“Probably not. But she’s right it’s probably a good thing to go so we know what to expect” you stated with a shrug.
“Well how about we make a deal, I’ll go to the pregnant lady class and you come over for dinner with Wayne” Eddie asked with pleading eyes.
You roll your eyes in response, “it’s a birthing class but ok fine. You have a deal but you are doing all the talking at dinner, I’m just coming for the free food”
He laughed, “what should I tell Wanye to make?”
“Oooo his famous spaghetti sounds amazing right now!” You replied, licking your lips, “but with penne noodle, angel hair pasta grosses me out.”
“Since when, all noodles taste the same” He said with a laugh and you shrugged.
“They definitely don’t all taste the same!” You said laughing as you both exited the store.
The weekend came faster than you expected. School was decent, but you were definitely keeping to yourself. Eddie had invited you to eat lunch with him a few times but you wanted to take this new found territory slow. You pulled up to the Munson Trailer and let out a long breath. You knew Wayne wasn’t going to yell when you told him what had been going on, but he would definitely be worried and disappointed which was arguably worse. The only thing that enticed you to come was the thought of Uncle Wanye’s amazing spaghetti, you had been daydreaming about it all week. You approach the white metal door and knocked twice.
“Hey look who finally came over for a visit” Wanye said as he opened up the door, giving you a smile. You smile back but uncomfortably as it didn’t seem like he knew you were coming.
“I was just finishing up some meatloaf, Eddie is in his room”
“Oh ok, thank you” you gave him a tight lipped smile as you walked down the hallway to Eddie’s room. You open the door, turn around to close it and then march over to where Eddie was sitting with his guitar on his unmade bed.
“What the actual fuck Eddie, I thought you told Wayne I was coming over” you whisper yelled at him, not wanting for Wayne to overhear you.
“I know I know, I just got nervous. I didn’t want to say anything and then him start drilling me with questions” Eddie said as he put his guitar down. You pouted sitting down next to him on the bed.
“So do you have a plan on how this is going to go genius?” You question.
“Uh well I was thinking we go out there and after dinner we somehow bring it up into the conversation..”
“Oh yeah that’s a great idea, hey Wayne do you miss when Eddie was a baby? Ok good because we are about to bring another one just like him into the world” you threw up your hands getting off his bed.
“Well maybe not quite like that..” and you just roll your eyes.
“Kids dinner is ready” you hear Wayne shout from the kitchen.
You and Eddie make your way to the small kitchen table and start filling your plates. You don’t take much, not really being in the mood for meatloaf after Eddie promised a spaghetti dinner. It was quiet for the first several minutes, all you could hear was the clanking of the silverware on the plates as you all ate.
“So what brings you over here, kid? Not that I don’t love having you over, you just don’t come around often anymore” Wayne states.
“That’s a great question Uncle Wayne, Eddie and I wanted to tell you ..” you started just to get cut off by Eddie shoving the bowl of mashed potatoes towards you. “You barely took any food y/n, here have some more potatoes”
You look at him confused but can tell by his flushed appearance he was nervous.
“No I’m good, anyway like I was saying-“ Eddie cut you off again, “serious y/n you should eat some more potatoes”
“What the hell Eddie, you said we were doing this tonight so let’s just get it over with!” You say slamming your hands down onto the table. Eddie just froze.
“Ok what in the hell is going on” Wayne finally interjected.
Both of you look up towards Wayne with wide eyes, unsure of how to continue the conversation.
“Seriously somebody better start talking,” Wayne said as he crossed his arms.
“Ok Uncle Wayne, I’m sorry. A few months ago we made a terrible mistake and now we are in this situation and we are trying to make the most of it but I know this will be disappointing for you-” Eddie rambled until you were the one to cut him off, “Uncle Wayne, I’m pregnant” you finally stated. The room grew incredibly quiet. It stayed quiet for at least a minute, Wayne face clearly trying to process this new information.
“And just in case you weren’t sure, it’s Eddie’s baby” you added in and Eddie groaned.
Wayne got up from the table, without saying a word and walked out to the front porch.
“I told you this was a terrible idea!” Eddie exclaimed.
“It was your idea!” You said back. Eddie just closed his eyes and tried to control his breathing.
“I think dinner is over now, you should leave y/n” Wanye said as he came back inside, metal door slamming behind him.
“I think Eddie and I need to have a talk” he finished. You nodded to both of the Munson men and made your way out to your car.

And Now for Something Completely Different, in... Tokyo Soul!
1 / 2 / You Are Here! / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9
Smaller batch of episodes today, just a strange little mini-arc while Taurtis is presumably unavailable.
This report contains mentions of: gross humor, sexual humor, and harassment.
Previously on Tokyo Soul:
Grian: “I’m into dudes.”
“Fully Cooked Ramen?”
Grian: “Hey, Mr. Principal! :) Your teacher gave us snipers! :) I don’t know what kind of circus you’re running here! :)”
This Time...
Episode 11 – THE SUPER STORE
We open on Grian walking in on Sam in the bathroom. Sam makes Grian wipe for him. I wouldn’t relate this but I’ve seen people mentioning it out of context and was confused, and thought others may have also been confused. So allow me to clear up the confusion. There was never any context to begin with.
Also, Taurtis was taken away in the night by “officers” for not having the proper visa, Señor Loro reports. He promptly leaves.
Oh also it’s the weekend apparently, so they don’t have school. Instead, Sam has scheduled a job interview for them. Which is good, since Sam just spent the last of their money on KitKats.
Sam also steals a teddy bear from the hotel gift shop.
They ask Igbar for directions to the superstore, because Igbar knows where everything is. He also gives them his umbrella.
They arrive at the superstore, where they and the only other non-manager employee, Jason, immediately antagonize each other.
They’re interviewed by the manager, Mr. Nautilus, and Sam overshares quite a bit. Luckily, Mr. Nautilus also has a dead girlfriend, so he and Sam have a point of commonality.
Also, Tokyo Soul takes place in That One Time 2027, according to the calendar on the wall.
Mr. Nautilus doesn’t like either of the boys, but the superstore is short staffed, so they’re hired anyway! They’re each given a key to the bathroom and a company credit card.
Episode 12 – I HATE JASON
Sam and Grian have changed into their work uniforms. Also, it seems that Jason and Mr. Nautilus were watching them change through the bathroom mirror, which is in fact just a window. Okay.
The principal is shopping at the superstore and Grian immediately tears back into him about his staff.
They try to sell the principal a watch. Jason steals their sale.
Books that are for sale at the superstore: Squid Erotica. The Normie’s Guide to Memes. Why Squids Can’t Be Trusted. History of Anime. If Microwaves Could Dream. How to Lick Feet: For Dummies. Theoretical Panty Physics. Encyclopedia of Aliens.
Apparently the squid erotica is a priceless heirloom belonging to Mr. Nautilus, and the boys weren’t supposed to sell it. They also have no idea how the cash register works. Jason continues to antagonize them by being more competent than they are.
Professor Geode is here. He now has a disconcertingly wide smile, and his face appears to be glitching, or possibly melting. He requires trash and human waste. Mr. Nautilus is not pleased that the boys let him into the staff bathroom.
Professor Geode requires human food. Jason swoops in to sell him a bike, assuring him that it’s perfectly edible, and he can in fact feed it to people.
Also, Jason can teleport maybe??
Episode 13 – KILL JASON!
Sam and Grian hide in the electronics section to come up with a plan to get Jason fired, but Jason teleports behind them, so they relocate to the bathroom. They still appear to be unaware of Jason and Mr. Nautilus watching them through the mirror-window.
Grian’s plan is to push over some shelves and make it look like Jason did it. Sam’s plan is to push the shelves onto Jason, and break his legs. Grian insists that they are NOT going to kill anyone in this town, but eventually says that breaking Jason’s legs might be “for the best”. They are then called to the manager’s office.
He just wants to chew them out for not being more like Jason, rather than for threatening to break Jason’s legs.
Jason is now wearing Grian’s head???? He’s pretending to be Grian’s reflection for some reason??
A customer wants something for “chop chop”. Sam tries to sell them a garden trowel. Jason shows up and sells them a giant anime sword. They want him to test it on Grian and Sam.
Grian and Sam are sent to clean the bathroom. They continue to discuss strategy.
Sam: "Do you want me to set him on fire?" Grian: "Um… I would, but I think that’s illegal."
Mr. Nautilus is now wearing Sam’s head?? I honestly can’t tell if they’re supposed to actually be acting as Sam and Grian’s reflections or what. What the hell is going on in the superstore.
Sam and Grian successfully sell some guy panties for 500 or 5000 dollars, I’m not sure what exactly the exchange rate is between dollars and gold bars retextured to look like 1000 yen bills.
……But then it turns out the guy is a known counterfeiter, whose money will explode if you try to use it.
They try to slip the fake money into Jason’s cash register, but Jason catches them, so they decide to just go with plan B, which is “bring him into the bathroom and waterboard him in the toilet”. This also fails, because he still has that giant anime sword. AND a katana.
Sam and Grian decide to quit.
Mr. Nautilus claims they signed a contract and he can get them deported. Sam and Grian tell him this is bullshit, and just make a run for it.
Sam shows Grian around their house, as this is the first time he’s been there. Sam assigns Grian the dingy basement.
The sushi from episode 1 is STILL on their table.
Grian Trauma Count!
Traumatic Events:
Taurtis being deported is kind of glossed over because it’s probably just an excuse for why CC!Taurtis couldn’t film that day, but I would think that would count.
Bathroom Mirror-Window.
Threatened with two giant swords by Jason.
Next Time... Taurtis Is Back!

i know i’m far from an expert on history but it always bothers me to see bob marley’s portrait hanging in my local weed shop. like, i’ve loved reggae music since i was young, well before i ever smoked weed, i know listening to music is pretty rad when stoned, and i admit i understand that a lot of prominent figures and concepts idolized by the hippies and revolutionaries of the 60’s and 70’s in the usa eventually became synonymous with drug use, esp marijuana, due to smear campaigns against counterculture so maybe it is a kind of defiance to display it proudly? but while i understand the admiration a lot of disillusioned young people in the usa in the 60’s and 70’s would have felt for the people fighting the class war in jamaica and the reggae music emerging with lyrics about said war but still pushing for peace, for one love, as they worked to topple inequity and corrupt systems while redefining perspectives on race, oppression and intergenerational trauma but how did bob marley become “the weed man” in the cultural consciousness when he was a spokesperson for political change and class revolution? is it only that way in the us? do other countries and cultures see him as more than a stoner icon with his face on rasta memorabilia sold at jacked up prices to college kids who have never even heard of the rastafari revolution, the pan-african movement or the jamaican civil war, idk why but it really does bother me to see a strong voice for peace and change reduced to a face plastered on drug paraphernalia and stoner t-shirts. like… damn. that’s the death of a revolutionary in the capitalist tradition, i suppose. bob marley’s portrait hanging above the bud hut cash register, “grunge” clothing sold by fast fashion corporate hellholes, t-shirts with kurt cobain’s suicide note written on them being sold for 800 bucks a pop, eat the rich stickers for sale on amazon of all places, santa muerte being sold as a goth accessory or a “hardcore” generic tattoo in the us stripped of what she symbolizes to me and many other latina/o people who were raised with mexican neopaganism and folk catholic traditions, sanitized street art commissioned by some silicon valley suit that is purely aesthetics with no heart, no soul, nothing related to the authenticity of artistic vandalism, just imaginary street cred points for a rich dick. i get the same feeling in my stomach seeing the “aesthetic” whitewash of counterculture, the clownery of “alt” culture on apps like tiktok, the cashing in on the suffering of the oppressed for a quick buck and the tragic victory of cementing hippies and beatniks and freedom fighters in the minds of the following generations as degenerate druggies (thanks nixon and crew) that i get when i hear that pop remix of “the hanging tree” and it’s a lot to take in while i’m just trying to buy a box of strawberry cough prerolls.
