More Rambles on SV DLC News
Anyway, now that I've had a day to let everything sink in from yesterday's Pokemon Presents, a bit more of a ramble on SV DLC.
Seems we are getting more new evolutions, including a new alternate evolved form of Applin in Dipplin and surprisingly, a Duraludon evolution called Archaludon. They seem like pretty cool new additions. Dipplin is a candy apple, which is an interesting spin on Applin's apple theme. Stat-wise I'm curious how it will differentiate itself from Flapple and Appletun.
Duraludon is not what I expected to gain an evolution, though Archaludon admittedly looks pretty cool, being a bridge. Duraludon already possesses a naturally high base stat total so how Archaludon changes from that is going to be interesting.
We also have two new Paradoxes, Raging Bolt being Ancient Raikou, and Iron Crown being Future Cobalion. Seems Suicune and Virizion weren't the only ones to get them. Raging Bolt's long neck is something though...kinda goofy there. Entei and Terrakion will have Paradox counterparts of their own as well I imagine at this rate, to complete them as trios.
Seems the mysterious turtle we saw from Liko's pendant in Horizons is just Terapagos itself, in its Normal Form, while the bigger type-shelled form is its "Terastal Form". Notably this isn't necessarily a Terastallized state, and since Terapagos is implied to be the harbinger of the Terastal phenomenon that raises some interesting ideas for what role it may play in the story. Terapagos may have even more forms that we don't know about which I look forward to seeing.
Ogerpon seems to have a different appearance when Terastallized, in this case it seems to have special ties to Terastal itself.
From a story structure standpoint this DLC seems to be mirroring SwSh's DLC in terms of how the halves are placed and structured. The Teal Mask being Part 1 seems to be like the Isle of Armor, being able to be accessed as soon as the main story kicks off and being an additional side story intended to be slotted into the main story while expanding on the original base story and lore in a way. Kitakami like the Isle of Armor will be its own mini-storyline with the festivals and whatever we do there on the field trip much like how the Isle of Armor was a training quest in the Master Dojo that ends with raising Kubfu into a great Urshifu.
Meanwhile The Indigo Disk being Part 2 is like the Crown Tundra, being intended as a post-game quest after completing both the main story and DLC 1, only this time it's actually hard-locked to only being unlocked after completing both. It seems it's a post-game quest, while with the Crown Tundra it was a legendary catching expedition, this time we're an exchange student at the Blueberry Academy and we're taking part in the BB League and the tests to challenge each of the BB Elite Four. Like Galar's Crown Tundra it seems to be looping back to mainland Paldea for the finale of the overall story, and as we all know it'll be Area Zero, and returning to there for the final story segment, akin to how the Crown Tundra looped back to Wyndon Stadium for the Galarian Star Tournament. In both cases going back to where the base story's finale ended, with SwSh it was the Champion Cup and beating the undefeated Leon, in SV it was exploring Area Zero and taking down the Zero Lab, and for SV's DLC the final Area Zero visit may be something related to Terapagos and a finale we may not know about.
Based on the above speculation this also ties into how the anime and Horizons, with Liko's story, may build up and what its finale may be. While both Journeys and Horizons are multi-region and doing their own thing, they do take story elements and plot beats from SwSh and SV respectively, especially with Ash's and soon to be Liko's finale. Ash's finale in his Journeys story (and his story overall) was the Masters 8 Tournament in Wyndon, ending off with a grand final battle between him and Leon with Ash emerging victorious, mirroring SwSh. Liko's story already has the pendant, which we now know is Terapagos, as a major plot point, and the finale of her story in Horizons may have its climax take place in Area Zero, especially with Liko taking down the Explorers and maybe AI Sada/Turo will be involved as well alongside Koraidon and Miraidon, and of course Terapagos, in some sort of climax that will establish Liko as the new hero of legend and a legendary herself, much like how Ash himself ended off his story becoming the World Champion, the strongest battler who ever lived. I'm definitely very interested in how both SV's DLC and Horizons will pan out in that regard and what kind of story they're trying to tell with Area Zero and its mysteries in both the games and the anime at present.
Lots of rambling but there you go.

Hello again after so long! After the last entry, I couldn't get my phone and switch to connect for the photo transfers, and tried screenshotting with my phone directly but the quality was no good, so I just put this journal on pause.
That doesn't mean I haven't been enjoying pokemon in the meantime though! I reached endgame on Arceus and never realized how many legendaries we had access to in that game!
After thinking about it for a bit, I decided to move from shield to sword instead for me and Fen's playthrough. For one thing, I like sword dog more than shield dog. And secondly, I have the expansion pass purchased for sword, but not shield, so this way will save some money. I did transfer my beloved team from shield before starting my new sword adventure, so it's full steam ahead! Below is my current character's appearance.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC is now available
Tumblr media
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will receive two expansions this year, called "Teal Mask" and "Indigo Disk." Here's everything you need to know about DLC! Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's The Teal Mask DLC is now available, and Nintendo has celebrated with an all-new trailer recapping the events of the base game, while also offering information on the Expansion Pass. As was the case for Pokemon Sword and Shield's DLC, the Expansion Pass for Scarlet and Violet is broken into two halves: The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. Both parts will give players new areas of the world to explore, starting with Kitakami in The Teal Mask, and then the Blueberry Academy in The Indigo Disk. The DLC's New Pokemon Before The Teal Mask's release, The Pokemon Company has revealed several new Pokemon that players will be able to obtain. These include Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti, who are known collectively as the Loyal Three. The DLC will primarily revolve around Ogerpon. In Kitakami, players can also discover Dipplin, a new evolution of Applin, and Poltchageist a Pokemon fairly similar to Sinistea. There may be others for players to discover, as well! While the first half of the DLC puts a major focus on Ogerpon, The Indigo Disk's narrative seems to revolve around the new Pokemon Terapagos. A new evolution for Duraludon will appear, named Archaludon. In The Indigo Disk, players can expect to see new Paradox versions of several Legendary Pokemon. Raging Bolt, a Paradox take on Raikou, will make its debut, joining Walking Wake, a Pokemon introduced earlier this year based on Suicune. The existence of these two Paradox Pokemon has already led to a lot of speculation about a Paradox version of Entei, though a design and name have not been unveiled just yet. Those Paradox Pokemon will appear in Pokemon Scarlet, while Paradox versions of the Swords of Justice will seemingly appear in Pokemon Violet. Iron Leaves, a Paradox version of Virizion, was already made available earlier this year, at the same time as Walking Wake. Iron Crown is a Paradox version of Cobalion, leaving Terrakion unaccounted for, just like Entei. Read the full article

Predictions/hopes for tomorrow's Pokemon Presents
I imagine there will be some basics, new content for the mobile games (Go, Cafe Mix, Unite). Maybe something about the anime and/or TCG. Possible even updates on the fabled Pokemon Sleep.
Let's Go Johto would be cool, but I don't think we'd get that this year, and TPCI tends to not announce games more than a few months in advance.
The big thing would be info on upcoming NSO based titles. Gens 1 -3 for the GB/GBA and also the already promised Stadium/Stadium 2 for N64. Possibly with some kind of compatibility between Stadium and the corresponding GameBoy games.
Also, Home compatibility for Scarlet and Violet  and maybe NSO as well (we had Bank compatibility with the shop ports of the GB games on the 3DS, so there is precedence for this).
Speaking of, it's possible they'll talk about how the imminent closing of the 3DS eShop will effect Pokemon transfers going forward. (Though, I don't know what they could do about that, short of making their own peripheral to connect the 3DS and the Switch, which is a bit of an ask.)
There will probably be a big Seven Star Raid event for SV.
There's a huge patch coming for SV as well. I imagine it will go live today and they'll talk about it.
The big thing is paid DLC. I agree with the common assumption that this game will also have it, and we will hear about it tomorrow.
I expect it will be similar to the Sword and Shield DLC; an Expansion Pass giving you multiple waves of content. This content will include new Paldean Pokemon. We may even get a teaser tomorrow with a new mon, like they did with the Galarian Slowpoke. In that case, I would expect Paldean Miltank.
There's that clearly out of place rock in the East of Paldea, I assume something is going to happen there. And assume there will be new Gen 9 legendaries, possibly including something that resembles the sketch in the Scarlet/Violet Book. I would also be unsurprised to see Paldean forms of the Gen 2 dogs.
I'm also guessing there will be more old gen Pokemon added, with a free update giving data but not spawns to the people that don't but the DLC.
I would also guess we will get new clothes and hairstyles. I hope this included the ability to change out of our uniform and some decent long hair options (Pokemon has not had good long hair since Gen 6!)
Thing i would like but don't necessarily think are as likely as the above.
Increased flying and climbing abilities for your legend. This could come in the form of a power up obtained during the storyline with the new legend.
A way to advance time.
Given the time theme, something cool with fossils. One thing that would be really cool is if the traditional fossils became "revived forms" with all the fossils getting original forms that can be caught as well (i.e. and Aerodactyl form that is similar to Mega Aerodactyl). This could also include the original creatures that were the basis for the Gen 8 fossils.
In the area you catch them, you can also find "remnants" that can be revived into classic fossil Pokemon.
Also, we know you will be able to transfer in Hisuian Pokemon, so maybe a way to get Hisuian evos.
Something future related too; maybe involving Pokemon like Porygon or Elgym.
I would also like a way to more reliably farm Herba Mystica and Apriballs.
Big one, a return of the shiny sound from Arceus. Maybe you can do a quest and get an item called the Shiny Bell or something that brings back the sound.
I would like an update to the overworld map that makes so after you check a raid den the pap tells you what was in it (and maybe the star level). Also, the ability to minimize the mini-map.
Some what to more reliably get Family of Three Maushold and Three-Segment Dudunsparce. Possibly also a way to breed Vivilion forms.
And, finally, I want the new Pokemon to include mons that have not been available on the Switch yet (or only available in Let's Go, which had limited transfer and no breeding): Patrat, Furfrou, Ducklett, Pikipek, Sewaddle, Blitzle, Alolan Geodude, Alolan Rattata, the Gen 5 monkies, Snivey, and Tepig (ETA: Also, Minior).
ETA: Highly unlikely, but I’d also like some sort of remake/remaster/follow-up for the Colosseum/XD Games.

Thoughts About Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC (Lengthy Discussion)
Prior to the Pokemon Direct, I’ve seen many people claiming that DLC for Pokemon games would be impossible, and others saying it would be a “disaster”. Many people thought that additional Pokemon wouldn’t ever become reality for the franchise after the National Dex hoopla. But here we are, with a set of 2 DLCs and over 200 returning Pokemon added on to the 400 already present. I’m very excited and very happy with the way Game Freak is handling Pokemon Sword and Shield. In the past, the only way Pokemon titles were updated with extra content was through a third (and sometimes fourth) version that costs the same amount as the original game. While this wasn’t something I complained about in the past, seeing the alternative route Game Freak is taking now, DLC for $30 rather than a game for full-price is far better. Some may argue that Pokemon are being held for money and some may be freaking out thinking that Game Freak is becoming hungry for money and will stop at nothing to get it even if it means selling us Pokedex expansions. This is a very over-dramatic viewpoint. In any given company, there are your typical greedy people. Do I think that Masuda and Ohmori are a part of this greed operation? Absolutely not. (Probably some of the higher ups in marketing.) Look, any company needs to find ways to capitalize off of their work, Sword and Shield is taking over a year now to produce, and the Pokemon Company needs to work day in and day out to deliver games within a set period of time. That kind of work and the cost of making games like these with active online servers requires a lot of funds to operate. It’s no evil scandal from Game Freak that they’re charging money for DLCs. The 200 Pokemon returning aren’t even behind the DLC paywall anyway, the only price you have to pay to get them is the cost of Nintendo Switch online membership, which is very  cheap especially compared to the pricey PlayStation plus membership that many PS4 games require to access their online content. (Not to mention, there’s even cheaper options that’s a fraction of the cost of the Family Plan.)
Tumblr media
In large, I think most people are just shocked that the Pokemon franchise is doing something new, and these people out of fear are labeling it as a possible issue. Fans need to remember that companies need ways to make money in order to keep making the games we love and demand, and the Pokemon Company found a way of doing it that costs us less money than it did in the past. Would you want to pay $40 for Ultra Sun and Moon, or would you want to pay $30 for 2 pieces of expansive DLC that includes 200+ Pokemon, new battling features, over 100 new customization options, 3 new legendaries, more characters, and more open explorable areas? Yeah, especially compared to other games’ DLC these days, $30 for Pokemon DLC is pretty damn good. There’s a particular reason I think that this is the best route for the Pokemon Company (and for the players.) If Game Freak continues this trend, it will allow them to spend 2 years on a single Pokemon game rather than pushing out a new title every year and then leaving those games behind without any new serious updates. Take Sun and Moon for example. The only update those games ever got after release was a minor update to fix some bugs. That’s it. No gameplay additions, NOTHING. But with the trend the Sword and Shield games are starting, we’ll get Pokemon games more fleshed out than ever with more time being spent on each title. Some of you are probably asking, “why is there a need for DLC?” As I mentioned earlier, the Pokemon Company has a time frame that Pokemon games must be released within. What DLC allows them to do is release a game when they need to, then continue evolving the game behind the scenes and in the meantime accepting fan feedback from the released content which allows them to make the DLC a proper addition based on what fans want and what is best for the game. I’m just as weary of game developers as the next guy, but I’m not seeing some kind of corporate conspiracy going on with the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC. What I AM seeing is the Pokemon Company finding its footing, finding a way to make Pokemon a properly funded franchise and making each Pokemon game’s play value much longer. Hard work deserves pay, and that’s what I’m going to do come June and November. I hope every future title gets the same opportunities as the Sword and Shield games. Perhaps even the Diamond and Pearl remakes? Just imagine the expansions that game could get with the Contest feature. God, I can’t wait.
