CBS Ghosts is my new guilty pleasure so take my new OCs. The Blanchet family were distant French cousins of the Woodstones who visited the house in the early 1900s, only for a violent house robbery to take the life of their youngest daughter, Mercedes, and her loyal self appointed guard dog, Horse. Only 8 years old, it takes some time for Mercedes to understand her fate, and for some time she’d be very distressed that her family seem to be ignoring her. On the bright side, the other ghosts are there to try and make things easier, though the misfit collective have a hard time caring for a child given their circumstances, and conflicting ideas on how best to raise a little girl.

Of all the ghosts, she is closest with Thorfinn. He has a soft spot for the little girl.

hey if u guys r sad about ofmd and want another show with gay people to watch you should consider watching Deadloch. It’s really good it’s really really good uh it might get a second season if the creators decide to do that.

if you watch good omens you’ll be able to watch Deadloch they’re on the same service. Uhhhh One of the actors from ofmd is there shes one half of the main duo (the other half is played by Kate Box who’s an amazing actor and Dulcie is now one of my fav characters ever) gets to wear an open Hawaiian shirt for like 3 of the 8 episodes which is a bonus. It’s extremely gay and it’s fun and beautifully written and no queer characters die and it’s satisfying and funny and Please watch it I’m begging you please watch itPLEASE

It's strange how hated Loghain is in the fandom but how loved Cullen is.

Loving Loghain elicits disgust from most people, while loving Cullen is generally accepted. Even though both of them have committed horrendous crimes. But the difference is that Cullen is constantly coddled by the fans and the devs.

Whereas Loghain is not, you can give him a punishment that fits his crimes. The "best" case scenario for him is getting forcefully conscripted into the Grey Wardens and getting shipped off to Orlais, of all places. The "worst" - well, you get to literally behead him, in front of everyone attending the Landsmeet and no one will oppose you except Anora who just got sprayed by a gallon of her father's blood.

Meanwhile you can't even be particularly rude to Cullen, let alone call him out on his bullshit. And he is never truly faced with consequences for his genuinely abhorrent actions. Also the "redemption" he gets is frankly nonexistent.

Yeah Loghain was a main villain...but so was Cullen...?? Did his fans collectively forget about that?

Yeah Cullen has a tragic backstory...but so does Loghain? Does that excuse their actions? No, but a whole lot of Cullen fans try to bring all that into a conversation when someone criticises their fave.

So allow me a similar luxury. Not to excuse Loghain's actions of course but to get on even footing with everyone trying to wave away Cullen's crimes via invoking the power of a tragic backstory:

During the Orlesian invasion Loghain's family lost their farm due to increasing taxes, essentially making them homeless.

The resistance they put up was futile in the face of the Orlesian soldiers who easily overpowered them and subsequently made Gareth and Loghain watch them violate Loghain's mother before brutally murdering her.

After fleeing Oswin, they were on the run until Maric unknowingly lead the Orlesians into their camp. Loghain ran away with him, however to buy them time, amongst others Gareth sacrificed himself.

Loghain had no siblings and both his parents were dead at this point.

He had that whole situationship with Rowan that he could not realistically pursue in good conscience as she was betrothed to Maric. This put a strain on Loghain's relationship with them both.

In 9:25 Dragon, Maric disappeared. Loghain tirelessly searched for his closest friend for two years.

Shortly after, in 9:28 Dragon, Loghain also lost Celia, his wife.

I'd say he lived around 80% of his life in utter misery. Not that it nullifies anything vile he has done but since so many people love to bring up Cullen's past while defending him...

So let's not be hypocritical.

Either be hellbent on hating Cullen too- or have mercy for Loghain as well.

Me literally like two days ago: Give me a week or so to finish this book before I start planning a new fic, and then I'll probably finish at least one of my current wips on ao3 before I start posting this one

Me now: GUESS WHO WROTE CHAPTER ONE OF ANOTHER NEW FIC

Portrait of a Dead Girl is (hopefully) going up on AO3 today folks! This is my first time writing a fic for the Shadow and Bone trilogy instead of Six of Crows (really branching out, I know) but I am so so excited about it at this point I'm really writing it for myself more than anyone reading it but ah well, and anyway I thought I'd share a lil snippet on here before I post it so I hope that you enjoy! :)

Note: I have completely warped the backstories of these characters and the worldbuilding of the Grishaverse in order to have it mimic the landscape of Western Europe in the mid 1500s, just bear with me I promise it makes sense so long as you lean into it <3

Summary:

Alina Starkov was given to Duke Aleksander Morozova of Os Alta in marriage when she was fifteen years old. Within a year, she was dead. The official cause of Alina's death was marked as putrid fever, but many at the time believed, and many in the future will go on to believe, that she was poisoned by her husband.

This fic is completely inspired by The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrel, which is a work of historical fiction based on the real lives of Duchess Lucrezia d'Este (née de' Medici) and Duke Alfonso ii d'Este of Ferrara. You don't need any prior knowledge of The Marriage Portrait or history to read and enjoy this fic, but know that my writing is very much going to mimic that of O'Farrel in format and although I'm hoping to write the story in my personal usual writing style I will definitely be borrowing a lot of my descriptors, symbols, and so on and so forth from O'Farrel - there will be some of mine too though :)

Snippet from chapter one:

She understands, now, the reason for their sudden journey to such a strange, lonely place as this. He has brought her here, brought her to a stone fortress far away from anything she even vaguely knows, to murder her. It is here that she will die.

He leans towards her, resting his fingers on the bare skin of her wrist as he says something. She doesn’t listen, though she is aware that she can hear the words. The astonishment of her epiphany has thrust her right up out of her body, and she is fighting the urge to laugh at the sheer absurdity of it all as she floats above the couple at the table and bumps against the ceiling beams like the clumsy ghost she is surely destined to become. She watches herself nodding at him, mumbling a polite and customary reply to whatever it was he said, sipping her wine and taking a bite of her bread. The couple sit together and talk, eat, drink - as though nothing at all is amiss between them, as though this is a normal dinner on a normal day, that it will be followed by a normal evening and a normal night. The Alina sitting at the table is talking about the journey here, about pretty landscapes and her enjoyment of the ride he has taken her on. The Alina floating at the ceiling knows that the version of herself below is a liar; the ride here was dull, through blank and stark fields beneath an ugly grey sky. Her husband had set the pace at a trot, mile after mile of it, Alina’s back aching and her skin chafed by wet stockings. Even inside her squirrel-lined gloves, the fingers clutching at her reins had been frozen with cold. She kept looking at the mane of her horse, half expecting it to have stopped in place, encased by ice.

Alina had wanted to spur her horse, once they’d reached the countryside and Os Alta faded into the distance. She’d wanted to dig her heels into its flank, feel its hooves fly over the stones and soil, to move over the flat landscape at real speed. She’d wanted to feel giddy and alive and drunk in the wind and rain and sky. But she did not. Because she knew that she must not. Her husband had ridden ahead with two guards either side of him, and her place was behind him - or next to him, if invited. But never in front.

Now she wishes that she’d done it anyway, that she had urged the mare into a gallop and streaked past him cackling like a madwoman, that she had released her hair into the wind as she rode, that her cloak had lashed out behind her and the hooves of her horse had flung mud across him and his guards. Even more than this, she wishes that she’d had the foresight to turn her reins towards the distant hills, where she could have lost herself off among the rocky folds and peaks somewhere he would never find her.

But, of course, she did not. And now here she is, condemned by the manners she always has to try so hard to remember.

I just realized all my family members who are super into conspiracy theory shit & obsessed with the idea of some stranger in a parking lot sex trafficking them are also all older women with no jobs and are stay at home moms. I think they & ppl like them are so into conspiracy theory shit because theyre unsatisfied with their lives, & the idea that they know some kind of unknown "truth" or "secret knowledge" makes them feel like theyre part of something bigger and that their lives are more exciting and meaningful and makes them feel intelligent.

In that case I wish they'd get a fucking hobby

#my chrome book is reaching the end of its natural lifespan #Ive gotten it to last like more than a couple years at this point #but chrome books are pretty much awful devices #so I need to go out and get a laptop that's NOT a chrome book #but for one thing I've literally never owned a laptop that's not a chrome book #I saved up and bought my current chrome book for like freshman year of highschool #I waited for a memorial day sale and special pricing so I could get it on like three discounts #so aside from the cost I have *no* idea where to go about buying a new laptop #I need one that's pretty sturdy at least and preferably similar size to a chrome book #I like the way I can charge things by attaching them to my Chromebook I like the way the keyboard is set out and I like that the touch-#screen and keypad aren't that sensitive #so I need to a) find a new laptop b) have the money to buy that laptop and c) learn how to use that laptop #none of which are things that I'll be particularly good at #I just want my 130 dollar old enough to be in elementary school hunk of plastic to work forever is that to much to ask #I've actually gotten it to live much longer than normal lmfao #really hoping it'll stay functional for at least another month or two #I hate getting new tech #I’ve still got an iPhone 8 for heavens sake #You can pry it out of my cold dead hands #I should probably get a new one but like. This one works pretty much.#Nothings cracked it charges fine all the buttons work #Honestly I’d prefer a phone a shade older than this one with a seperate headphone Jack #Basically the whole design of new phones is anti-me #Wide flat smooth super thin light and easily breakable #Plus I don’t have confidence that everything on this phone would transfer over. #original #I LOVE MY WIFE #romance #best friends #mad sleepover energy #we talked for over 3 hours about our respective novels-in-progress & she read me a moment in hers that made me weep w how beautiful it was #like if you know the 'I want to live!!!' moment in one piece it was like that but better #we also spent the entire day in the apt together as we do most days but generally we are co-working on separate things for a lot of the day #I also came up with a GREAT idea to strengthen the themes of her story and she came up with an EXCELLENT monster for mine #it's going to be so thematically appropriate and also incredibly cool and deeply anti-military~~~~#and it gave me the opportunity to include an incredible scene for the main villain #also the new Count of Monte Cristo trailer looks dope as fuck. fucking finally an Edmond that's not a white guy!!!#there's been dozens of adaptations of the book but none of them reflect the fact that in the book he is brown!#also I liked pretty much everything else I saw about the trailer. he is unbelievably sexy he is so hot I am a gay gay person #I love my fucking wife #and I had to update her about my good friend Count Edmond and his new movie adaptation!

i think the solution to seeing more of the content about your specific kind of trans existence to follow blogs that actually post about it instead of expecting different trans ppl to cater to you. tumblr is not activism and ppl are allowed to do whatever they want on their personal tumblrs, so like??? i am not expecting a trans girl to blog about transmasc experiences and vice versa. it is not a "denial of resources" and it is not oppression to not be blogged about on Tumblr Dot Com. this is literally just a little journal. we're not changing the world, we're venting or posting about things we like. allow others their space. "waaah there's too much x on my dash, why aren't they posting about y" why do you follow people who only post about x then, why aren't you following the million blogs that post about y? it's tumblr. we're not running out of space. there is room for all of us, so curate your dash and stop whining.
