Death in the catacombs

When most people think of birthday celebrations they think of parties, maybe at home, maybe at a fancy restaurant, a picnic, the movies, or somewhere lively and warm. Not many people think of celebrating birthdays in the Parisian Catacombs, but there was where Calix Matthews was going to celebrate his 19th birthday. Was it a good idea? Not at all! But there was no stopping Calix once he had set his mind to things. Standing outside the door he felt as if nothing bad could happen after sleeping in the catacombs and staying there overnight. A perfect plan where nothing could go wrong at all. By me saying that of course, something is going to go wrong, now you see Calix wasn’t alone. Had he watched the news over the past couple of days he could have seen a warning about a serial killer going around, a killer who liked dark places, a killer who liked to kill young men, a killer who hunted when everyone was asleep, a killer who was going to kill Calix. After entering the Catacombs Calix started to walk around trying to find a good place to put his sleeping bag. He eventually found a nice corner to put his sleeping bag in, it was even deep inside the combs so he would get the full experience. After setting up shop he continued to walk around and explore making sure to take plenty of pictures and videos. It may have seemed fun in the beginning but Calix would soon realize he had left his power bank at home. Once his phone’s battery died he wouldn’t be able to contact anyone- and it would take a good long time for people to come down and help him if he got into trouble.But trouble he was going to get into, he never once thought that there was someone else with him so he felt perfectly safe taking a nap in the middle of the hall. Although the killer did find him resting he was more amused as to how carefree the young man was, wanting to toy with his prey a bit he passed over Calix without doing too much mange. Just a few small cuts on his face and a couple of locks of his hair were cut. It amazed the killer just how much of a deep sleeper Calix was but not wanting to push his luck he left as quickly as he came setting his sights on where Calix had put his sleeping bag and travel bag. Rummaging around his victim's belongings where what the killer thought was the fun part. He could make up a picture in his head of how they lived and what their hobbies were, Calix for example was unprepared with only a bag of Doritos, two granola bars, and a bottle of water for food. He hadn’t brought any change of clothes or toiletries he had found a small box cutter in the bag's front pocket, a wicked smile crept its way into his face as he turned to where Calix was. Only Calix was standing in front of him, his eyes widened as he saw the unfamiliar man crouched over his things. Before the killer could get another word out Calix started sprinting the other way, the killer arose and started to stretch- after all, predators always stretch before a hunt.

it was an alright episode, nothing really to note, I do be liking the voice acting tho (for the most part)

I was right it was very good, takarie going off fr this season with yuzuriha, the megumin spinoff and hoshino ai too

the quality of the anime is still consistent which is good, gabimaru did some cool flashy stuff, tho it annoyed me that the panel with genryuusai's peeled face was only a handful of frames cause it felt like it had a lot more impact in the manga, but I know I'm gonna have to get used to that since it's an anime and all that

Pokemon Horizons Ep3

nothing crazy but still a very nice episode, like I said next time, it just feels like a breath of fresh air to not have ash around, it feels like the anime isn't shackled anymore to the gyms -> championship formula and it can start exploring more stuff. roy is joining the cast next week so I hope he isn't annoying. also I thought it was strange the anime was set in kanto since this is the gen 9 anime but they ARE going to paldea so that's good

(boyo too sweet for his own good) Also Sharky and Max joke like that alot, Max jokes alot bout end-gaming himself and Sharky will make jokes about eating people (butttt he only does that round people he feels safe with, if he does that shit in front of strangers uhm.......Probably won't end well for him tbh...)

Here are some rambling thoughts on my train home about the game last night:

I don't have a fixed seat in the East Stand (wasn't sure how many home games I'd get to so didn't think there was much point having a set seat if it was going to be empty for various games) so I was sitting in the West Stand. Think I've only ever watched half a game from that side before but I really enjoyed it. At first I thought I was a bit too close to the Man City fans and their drum but I took a lot of joy from trying to drown out the "City" chants after the drum beats with chants of "Arsenal" instead. After a quiet start most people were joining in and after a while the drum stopped...

Ended up right next to the press box as well (not sure why it was moved to the other side for this game 🤷‍♀️) and could hear some of the commentary for, I think, maybe the FA Player or BBC 5Live. The commentator was being very descriptive about the colour of the sky at a couple of points so I wondered if it was for radio. Also ended up in Tim's photo of the celebrations after Katie's goal! 😂

Think I was taking a photo at this point, was definitely doing lots of cheering and clapping as well!

Lauren Hemp was near me for most of the first half - she was constantly calling for the ball but was seemingly invisible to her City teammates when she was open on the wing. If I'd been her I would have been raging at half time! I was very glad they were stupidly ignoring her tbh, I was def most worried when she had the ball. Must say though that Noelle did brilliantly to contain her.

It was great to see both Noelle and Steph up close actually - they were both hit with injuries last season and obviously didn't play in front of the fans so it was brilliant to have each of them near us in each half and see them bossing it.

Jennifer Beattie 👏 Those defensive headers 😍 Think she was first to the ball on pretty much all City's set pieces - so happy she's back with us!

The pressing generally was excellent throughout but Kim and Beth particularly just did not stop running! Felt a bit bad for the City defenders towards the end tbh - Beth, Viv, Frida and Katie went off but our subs just kept up the intensity and continued pressing.

Really exciting to think about all our subs and the fact we can actually rotate properly and not lose any quality on the pitch. Guessing we'll prob see Keets, Mana, Caitlin and Lotte start on Wednesday - maybe even Tobin, although she may just sub in earlier than she did tonight. Hopefully we'll see Jord back on the pitch too! This is what we've really missed in the last few seasons and is just what we need with the busy schedule ahead.

Captain Kim I love you. I always do, but last night she was just brilliant.

Really want Frida to score - so close at one point! Thought she was excellent yet again, what a signing!

So pleased for all the goal scorers but Leah scoring right at the end really put the cherry on the top of a fantastic evening.

The confidence the team are playing with at the moment is just wonderful to see and it's so great to see, especially after last season.

Loved that because Katie and Beth both had to leave at their closest edge of the pitch when they were subbed off they basically did a lap of honour walking back to the bench with everyone cheering/singing for them as they went past.

The atmosphere was great tbh, seemed like a lot more than just over 2000 - I wonder how it came across on TV, especially as the City fans and their drum were much closer to the cameras/microphones than most of the sections of the crowd that were singing/chanting. Was really funny after Katie scored though - 3 separate sections of the crowd starting singing "We've Got McCabe" at slightly different times so it was a bit like they were singing a round 😂

Something that I really love about going to Arsenal games, especially when I've gone on my own, is that more often than not I end up chatting to the other fans I'm sitting with - there's something so lovely about sharing the experience of the game with people you don't know but share the same love for this team.

Inversion spoilers & discussion under the cut

So. The Inversion arc starts in 3 days. I’d like to take this time to talk about what I think may happen

Do I think one of our beloved characters is going to die? Yes

Do I think it’ll probably be Davey or Vincent, given they’re the two longest-standing characters on the channel whose series are still running and both of whom are self-sacrificing idiots? Yes.

Now, do I think they’re going to stay dead? No!

Brachium said the river runs both ways tonight, which I know means Death is flowing into Life, but I also think that will make it hard for character death to be permanent

Another idea is that Lovely might die, and Vincent may have to turn them to save their life. They’re on the stage, right where the portal opened up, so there will probs be a lot of shades there. And they probably expended most of their power during their Max Amp display so they won’t have much to spare for self-defense

Personally, I think when we hear Damien asking if those were shades and Huxley saying to run, we were hearing it as Lovely listening in—and possibly following them, looking for safety and/or a way back to the box where Vincent and Sam are

Gavin said that shades feed on human life force, so Vincent and Sam, as vampires, might be perfectly safe. Gavin too. Gavin did specifically say when the shades started pouring out, that “we need to get you out of here,” referring to Freelancer. Meaning he’s not concerned for himself. Of course, it’s Gavin, so he probably wouldn’t be concerned for himself even if he were in danger

If Vincent and Sam aren’t actually safe from shades as vampires, then someone’s going to have to make a cloud or something to block out the sun so they can get out of the box. (Personally I’m hoping Lovely is right behind Damien and Huxley and they make it to Gavin and Freelancer and Lovely mentions their boyfriend and his brother are vampires up in that box and Freelancer and Gavin make the cloud because why not let everybody become friends with each other)

Caelum is most-likely not in the stadium, given Gavin said he was going to skip the rest of the game days, so at least he’s probably safe. That said, Freelancer, Davey, and possibly Asher are his charges and they’re all in the stadium at the same time so Caelum can probably feel knots forming

But if the ward is actually capable of keeping the shades in, it’ll probably stop Gavin and Caelum from rifting in or out

Also, hopefully, Elliot and Sunshine will finally break out of Blake’s dream prison

I don’t think this will have anything to do with Avior and Starlight, tbh (sadness)

Milo is on the outside of the ward, we know that. And we can guess that he hit it hard enough to revert back to human form. Presumably naked (pause for laughter). But if he phased through his clothes as he shifted, he won’t have his phone on him, meaning he can’t call Sweetheart, or maybe even Darlin’ unless he goes back to get it

Speaking of Darlin’, if Milo does manage to call them, I’m going to assume that Darlin’ knows Sam went to the Games with Vincent. And no stupid ward is going to stop Darlin’ from getting to Sam

Also, Milo was with Lasko ten minutes before, and presumably going to stick by Lasko with the medals up until Lasko got onstage—hopefully meaning Lasko is safe, outside the ward. (Though he’s definitely going to be panicking because Freelancer, Gavin, Damien, and Hux were all inside)

This is a stadium packed full of incredibly powerful empowered people. Which probably makes them prime targets for the shades to get strong quickly (hence why I assume the stadium was targeted for the portal to open in, besides just the massive concentration of general life force), but that also means these strong empowered people should be able to hopefully fight off the shades/close the portal

Maybe not. Maybe it would take dozens of d(a)emons to close it idk

The Department will show up to contain it, and I assume Sweetheart will be part of the response team, as an Investigator, but the Department is gonna have #struggles

Recap of my night at the Caps-Canes game in Raleigh:

Gotta admit PNC Arena was AWESOME. Really nice in there, definitely a different feel than Cap One. My dad remarked it was lighter - this is true, there were more windows and less buildings surrounding it. Had a great tailgating atmosphere going on

Managed to get a spot on the glass with my sign at warmups!! Right behind the caps goal. Which was awesome!!! Everyone was so close. So many people around me remarked how fuckin huge Mantha was. So many pucks were shot at the glass it was so loud. Sprong must have some part of his warmup routine that involves flipping pucks into the crowd because he flipped like 10 in a row into the crowd behind the goal at one point. Ovi also saw a boy with a sign written in Russian and made a point to get him a puck which was sweet. Sprong is also designated puck boy. And Sprong, Kuzy, and Jensen all fought each other to be last one off the ice; Kuzy won.

Did not get a puck from TvR, but that’s okay. I think there’s a chance he actually saw it though?? I had a moment where he was standing at the blueline right across from me and looked like he was looking in the direction of my sign, so like maybe he did there’s a chance but I don’t know. When I left to go to my seat some middle-aged guys asked to see my sign, and I think since TvR used to play there they were giving me the vibe like yeah I get it. Although one of the guys said “July - the BEST month to be born!!”

Arena? Fucking LOUD. My voice will probs be gone tomorrow. They claim it’s the loudest arena in hockey and they’re not incorrect. There were also sooooo many Caps fans. Like, however many you thought you saw/heard on TV, I PROMISE there were more. I could hear some of the Canes fans there being a little bitter about it (which I understand tbh)

We had seats like 10 rows up off to the corner at the end where Antti Raanta was twice, and it was the hot end of the ice, I think the majority of the night’s goals were scored down there. Had an excellent view of that goal, and the penalty box and tunnel that was all the way across the ice

Atmosphere great. LOVED all the storm-themed stuff, that was awesome. The music choices were great. The goal horn is so deep it like resonated in my chest. I love the “cheaters never win” stuff they do for the power play and I’m glad I got to see it

Now the game: EXCELLENT. Sammy made some good saves. And the game was PHYSICAL and there were some hits on the glass right below me which was great and everyone was BIG MAD. Garnet was mad. Dowd was mad. Ovi was mad. Tom was mad. SO much hitting and so much nastiness. I was CONVINCED there was going to be a fight and I’m positive Garnet would’ve fought someone if the game hadn’t been so close

I will say not one single person in that arena knew that Kuzy scored that first goal. Not a SINGLE one. Everyone was too focused on Ovi getting high-sticked. And that Ovi goal in the third? Epic

I was sitting fairly close to where Kuzy got hurt and it was really worrying but I’m glad he was okay. I did see him say a LOT of “fucking shits” to the ref. There was also one point where one of the Canes was holding the puck behind the net and Kuzy was the one in front of the goalie, and after a bit he just started waving. Like hi 👋👋👋 Kuzy was also skating so beautifully; at one point he made Slavin look BAD by outskating him

Overtime AWESOME. Canes didn’t have the puck literally at all the entire time. At one point Nicky was holding onto the puck for forever and then Dima held onto the puck for FOREVER. I swear like a solid MINUTE, he circled around the offensive zone SO many times it was delightful

Ovi’s shootout goal awesome, and his little hand over his ear celly was even better. And the team hugged him so much and hugged Sammy so much. Vitek hugged Sammy real tight, I have video (I could also see him in the zamboni tunnel sitting by himself cause PNC Arena is one of the ones that does not have room for the backup goalie on the bench rip).

So yes 10/10 experience, loved it, literal only bad part was in the third when I saw Dowd and then TvR leave through the tunnel and go to the locker room. But yes amazing time, would absolutely recommend it

HHHH The Hunt Is On original concepts that were scrapped and I feel like rambling. For context THIO is Jane/clockwork/Jack x reader currently on Quotev. At first it was just Jack tho. Anyway *shakes my ass* Mild thio spoilerz 

-As I said, THIO at first was supposed to be only a Jack X reader. I understand it would have been a lot more popular if it was but tbh I don’t really care. We thought to ourselves, “Ight Jack’s epic but what if lesbians?” And slapped them in. 

-Also put them in for a better story. Jane vs Jeff is super popular and we wanted to do our own take on it. Jack vs Jeff is interesting but Jack has no emotional attachment to Jeff in this universe. Wouldn’t have been much drive without Jane and the lesbianism xoxo.

-THIOs name was supposed to be linked to YN searching for Jack. We kept the name bc these bitches lookin’ for Jeff and how to stop him. The name kinda bothers me now but it’s sticks well enough.

-In early concepts YN was the host of a popular cyptid hunting/buzzfeed unsovled style webshow. She was still going to be autistic w/ a special interest in the supernatural. 

-She was going to be more driven though. She would do fucking anything to prove that ghosts and/or monsters are real.

-Prob 21/22

-Jack was going to live in some abandoned mall or hospital. Same goth aesthetic but less neat and quieter. A lil more unhinged but still wicked smart.

-Soulmate AU!!!!!

-The writing on your skin shows up on your soulmate’s! YN would get hastily written science notes until she was 19 then it all stopped. Occasionally a random mark that was accidental. 

-They were too driven to really communicate much. They both figured, “Eh I’ll get to it when I’m 30.”

-YN writes her entire routine for the day on her forearm. It’s a habit that she can’t shake.

-Jack’s blind and can’t see it. But if Rake were to catch it he’d point it out prob. If Jack so desired, he could take a (shitty) pic of the text and have it read out to him

-Uses it to avoid her when she comes lookin’. She doesn’t get how he keeps giving her the slip.

-When it was just a Jack/reader the plot was gonna go a lil like this:

-YNs crew were going to be her buds. One of them was going to be killed by Jack for munchies pre-story. Later on, YN would use a spirit box and make contact with him (Noah) More on this in a bit

-Noah was going to be punk, loud, annoying, and a skater.

-The group is still in shock and mourning even thought it’s been two months. A few people from their block have gone missing here and there. Something isn’t right. 

-YN and co. were going to film an episode where Jack and rake live. Seedeater was contemplated on being there too but we didn’t really connect with him.

-They catch something black and blurry on camera but only see it when they’re editing. 

-Go back over and over. Nothing.

-YNs like fuck it! Im going alone bc y’all loud.

-Night vision handheld camera like outlast

-Gets a good pic of Jack. It’s unclear, he has his mask on, he’s on all fours.

-Thing is, he like, is faking being a feral animal bc he wants YN to fuck off. 

-Just imagine being smart but crawling around and growling so this girl will go away.

-Doesn’t attack her bc he’s very aware that if too many folks go missing around the area then more people will look. He doesn’t fell like relocating again.

-YN gets in contact w/ Noah via the spirit box.

-YN asks him questions from across a tiny table. He’s so fucking tall, he could reach over and snap your neck in an instant.

-Gets muddied here bc this is where we did an overhaul to the plot where it was more of a character driven, tragic, depressing, hope punk, sort of thing with lesbians and mullet Liu. 

-Note that I’m not going to write this. I’ve found I only enjoy writing polyamory fics instead of solo stuff x.

I 100% agree about wanting more fanfic lists! I honestly think it's the best way to get a variety. Everybody has personal preferences, if someone, who mostly reads long, fluffy au Brio fic, is making recs, they're not likely to mention short, angsty, canon Brio (which is understandable and fair!) so ideally someone else, who does like those, would also do recs. I'm pretty sure I've read or at least tried the vast majority of Brio fics, but the recs often make me re-read the fic and author.

YAAASSSS!!! I mean like, okay, I v much get why people have issues with rec lists, and I def do not by any stretch endorse the idea that recs/rec lists should be considered anything other than one person sharing a think they liked, but to me a lot of the issues (the same fics/authors getting recced, feeling like awesome fics/authors are going unrecognized) can be solved by more reccing, not less. everyone’s got different taste and different stuff they look/read for and I am extremely pro sharing that.

Idk, I think about it like this: in a previous internet life I was a YA book blogger and I lived and died by recs from other bloggers whose taste and preferences I knew. I mean, you know, I’d check out a book bc the premise sounded interesting but literally the first thing I would do was go to Goodreads and look for a handful of people who tended to like the same books I did and see what they were saying about it bc that was the best way to get a good idea of if I wanted to give it a shot. Or, on the flip side, there were some people whose reviews I followed bc I knew we v much did not read for the same things so if they hated a book for X, Y and Z reasons, I was probs going to like it (one thing about book blogging is if you want to keep current, you do not have a lot of time to mess around, snap judgements are key but that’s a whole other thing and idk if it’s even relevant anymore bc that landscape has changed so much). 

ANYWAY, the point is, I got in the habit and now I do the same thing with fic bc, tbh, I don’t have a ton of time to read, esp not when I’m actively writing which, with the exception of the last week or two, I’ve been doing p non-stop since I got here. All of which to say is, I am desperately in favor of fic recs for purely selfish reasons, I need them! Give them to me!!! Please!!!!!

That said, I uh, am v bad at returning the favor and I recognize that (I think I’ve made what? two rec lists for this fandom?) so I will try to do better to live by my own, idek what this is, moving on and here are 10 recs not really thematically linked by anything other than I’ve read them and loved them and don’t think I’ve put any of them on one of my rec lists yet (and if I have, my blog is a trainwreck I cannot be expected to remember what’s on it LET ME LIVE):

The Goodest Boy by EnsignDisaster

There’s a key turning in the lock and Buddy rushes over to greet his Master excited for her to meet his new friends. The door opens and he dances around Master’s feet rejoicing on the fact that she’s made it home. It's been literally forever.

“Hey Buddy what’s wrong? Need to go potty? Need to pee-pee?”

“Nah he’s good we took him out.”

Master does something very unMasterlike, she drops all the food she’d brought in on the ground and screams. It’s a non traditional avant garde type of hello…Buddy loves it. Mostly because while Master taps furiously on her small light box and sits tense in the corner opposite his new friend Buddy can lick up the egg smashed on the hardwood floor.

Buddy! The! Dog! POV! no further explanation necessary. Technically WIP, but it covers the whole pilot in a way that could be read as standalone (THOUGH THAT WOULD V MUCH GIVE ME A SAD though, when did the show forget the Bolands had a dog? so maybe that’s a tragic casualty of canon, idk)

Emma hums in agreement, and Rio turns her around to sit her on the counter, grabbing one of the older looking boxes of muesli while she kicks her legs out, heels bumping back against the counter, watching him. He gropes around the inside of the box, finally just opting to pull the plastic cereal bag out and peering inside. He can’t quite keep the grin off his face when he sees the wad of cash lining the bottom. This woman kills him, she really does.

Then there’s a little face peering up beside him, trying to peek into the box.

“What is it?” she asks, and he tilts the box sideways so she can see inside.

The upside to not getting here until s3 is that old fic is new to me! Huzzah!! Idk how many of y’all have already read this on but if you haven’t I highkey recommend. Extremely cute take on what if Emma woke up when Rio and came by to collect his/Beth’s/whoever's money during the shutdown. Cannot believe I’m reccing kidfic. Witchcraft!!!!!!

Maybe You’re My Fantasy by ohmisterjapan

He fucking loves the involuntary. It speaks to how he likes to unlock chaos and walk away. He's been called a control freak before and it felt like such a misunderstanding of him - he's all about self control but he doesn't want to control others. It's more that he enjoys revealing to them how little they can control themselves. It's more that he likes to stand still in the eye of someone else's storm and pick coldly through the wreckage.

Another oldie but a goodie. This fic is more like an extended character study (first chapter Rio POV, second chapter Beth) and I LIVE FOR THIS KIND OF SHIT. I really really really love the take on both characters, it really digs in and pulls out some nuances that made me sit and think about my own read of them and I love it.

Her voice is low but smooth, laced with a softness that cuts straight though to his core. Strawberry blonde locks fall gently just above the pair of magnets freezing him in place.

He can still feel the chaos tearing through his veins - emanating from the gold plated gun stuffed in his waistband - and suddenly he can’t be here anymore. Can’t meet this wide-eyed gaze that’s been locked on his for the past God-knows-how-long anymore.

Can’t see blue alive and concerned when he just left it cold and void somewhere in oblivion.

She’s looking at him like he’s on the brink of madness. He thinks maybe he is.

Apparently, it’s backlist rec day over here and I’m not sorry. This one is another technical WIP but the chapter works as a standalone (BUT if the author decided to return to it I WOULD NOT BE MAD). It’s a what if Beth and Rio met pre-canon and it works so!!! well!!!! The tension and fascination and build are all *chef’s kiss* plus the writing is gorgeous and lyrical and ugh, I love it.

“We got stuff,” Rio motions with a nod to the backpack Beth hadn’t noticed when they arrived hanging on the back of one of the chairs at the island.

She swallows and turns back to the dishes, realizing Rio apparently means to sleep there , assuming the place isn’t bugged.  Or for some kind of cover story if it is.  She turns and fixes Rio with a narrow-eyed stare, studying his face, the corner of his jaw especially prominent from the angle she’s looking up at him.  He’s methodical about drying each dish and setting it back on the rack, maddeningly ignoring her hard stare, so when he goes to take the next plate from her hands she grips it tightly and gets his attention.

“Hey.”

“What you on about now?” he asks, irritated.

It gets her gut uneasy, how he’s just . . . there, settling in, in ways he never had before, no matter how nonchalantly he would let himself in through her locked doors.  

“This is,” Beth tries, failing, to find words for it, “. . . it’s weird .”

This one takes place post 204 and Rio and Marcus end up spending a long weekend staying with Beth and Emma for reasons (that work, for the record, I’m just not trying to summarize rn) and it’s domestic and cute but honestly my fav part of it is how weirded out Beth is by how easily they slip into sync. The story does an excellent job balancing where they are in canon (uneasy post-sex truce) with a snapshot of what they could be if they got over themselves (HA! as if) and Beth is DEEPLY FREAKED which makes her slow slide into realizing she could maybe sort of kind of oh shit like it/him??? that much more satisfying.

Not So Careful by @bensonstablers

When he doesn’t answer, her eyes go to his but he’s too busy watching the letter opener which is still pressed against the back of his hand. Curiously, Beth runs it up his arm, careful not to press too hard, and smiles a little as he shivers. Pulling her leg up onto the bed, she shuffles closer to him before pressing the tip of the sword to his chest and slowly circling his left nipple with it, being sure not to get too close.

“You ain’t gotta be that careful.”

And when she lifts her eyes to meet his, he’s got that look. The one that always makes a lump form in her throat and for her to fall back into bed with him without a single thought of what they have to do that day. Only thing is, this time they’ve got nothing to do for the rest of the weekend and well, staying in bed the entire time had seemed like an appealing idea so she allows herself to give in a little to that look.

It makes me EXTREMELY SAD that knifeplay ranked so low on the kink survey so I’m gonna need y’all to check out this V V V EXCELLENT example of it and come back and tell me you’re sorry and you voted wrong. I am v reasonable what are you talking about.

"You know what I can't stand?" Rio asks, stepping closer. It's a rhetorical question but he pauses for a second and watches Dean sniff, watches a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead, watches him shift on both his feet as he contemplates making a run for it.

"A guy who don’t realize how good he's got it." Rio continues, looking Dean up and down in disgust. "A guy that will literally fuck up a good thing just to get his dick wet."

In this one Rio catches Dean out on the town with another woman (bc of course he is) and tries to call him out but whoops! gets called out himself. I really love the like, idk, undercurrent of wistful regret in this fic. I love Dean straight up calling Rio out on his feelings (spoilers but there’s an exchange right after this one that made me straight up holler), and, you know, obvs I am here for Rio making Dean feel like an ass.

Aight, so tell ‘em I was hittin’ it. Said deliberately blunt, eyes locked on her face the whole time, just to see those blue eyes widen. She looked so shocked that he almost laughed, so he softened it teasingly just to keep her going. Oh, I’m sorry, sweetheart, tell ‘em we were makin’ love.

Then he just watched her, just watched her face, just fucking fascinated. Her lips were parted and her eyes were big as saucers, and…there it was. Before she could look away flustered, he watched the thought go through her mind. Him and her together.

He wondered what she was picturing or where. Them in the back seat, her bed, a motel?  Her on top or him from behind or his face between her legs?

Whatever it was, the blush started immediately, and he watched it bloom out from her cheeks to her hair. Then she was tearing her eyes away to gulp a little.  But it didn’t knock her down for long before she was looking back. And then, wait, was she actually asking him how to go about telling a fed they were fucking?

Okay this is another technical WIP but works as a standalone. I am absolutely fucking feral for character POV takes of canon scenes and this is a supremely excellent take on Rio POV of some notable scenes from the pilot through 204. Imo it brilliantly captures Rio’s voice and I love it a lot.

HISTORY

potential triggers — car accident, parental death, divorce

so she’s grown up on on the west coast p much ??? her whole life. her mom worked as a bodyguard for sum famous peeps, dad was doctor but occasionally also a medic in the field — they didn’t always see eye to eye and divorced when chris was around nine. it was mostly to do with chris’ future like whether she’d go to spy prep school and follow in their footsteps and her dad didn’t want that for her so they disagreed, and she lived with him instead, living a more or less normal life. her mom then moved away when the opportunity to become a professor at gallagher presented itself, so they’ve really not been close at all since then

lived fairly comfortably, either way her dad had money and her mom sent support too. her father definitely earns less from no longer being in the spy world but he vowed to leave that behind when he divorced his wife and other than a few people from his past popping up unannounced, he kept that vow. they moved around a couple times in order to keep chris safe, and especially when someone did find them ( even if it was friendly ) but mostly grew up in california, and a lot of it is to do with the fact chris loves it there so much

but chris knows about the spy world, what her mom does and the type of school she works at, but it never interested her enough to try and reach out or fight her dad on it as she enjoyed her life 

she remembers her mom as someone stubborn, argumentative, volatile which is the opposite of her dad who was patient, loving and endearing — so it’s a no brainer for her, she loves her dad a lot and he gave up a lot for her while her mom gave chris up for that world, her job, etc aka nada

BUT her dad died in a car accident recently that she was also in but was only a bit beaten up at most ( has some cuts / new scars, learn more below ) leaving her mother to swiftly pick her up and enrol her into gallagher, more to keep an eye on her than anything. 

her mom chose her majors and some of her classes for her, which chris is mad about, but mainly bc looking at what ones were offered she’d def pick macgyver anyway, and her mom argued p+e was a step into the physical and combat side of thing without being too heavy on it ( tho it’s the major she teaches so she’s biased and chris just thinks she wants to be closer ) but tbh ? chris just doesn’t want her mom to be right whatsoever or have the satisfaction of thinking she knows her daughter in anyway at all but she knows if she went undecided she’d probably pick those up again in her second year so she’s just ‘ going with it ‘ begrudgingly as if she has no choice

PERSONALITY

extremely stubborn, which she gets from her mom, would rather ruin her life than go back on something or admit she was wrong, if she apologises for something she'll find a way to do it where she's not actually ever saying the words ' im sorry ' or ' i was wrong ' and would rather start another argument than do that — but obviously she loves other people apologising to her

she is generally nice ??? i just think she can be irritated easy ?????? like a bit of a hot head tho she'd argue she's chill, she is mostly chill but likes to debate, be right, and can be very my way or the high way at times — i’ll figure her out more as i play her bc i can’t tell if she’s mean or not but i don’t think so, just a bit tougher than she needs to be

doesn’t dislike gallagher ( mostly ) but thinks all the legacies — even tho she technically is one, she doesn’t identify as one — are entitled spoiled brats and should get their heads out of their ass, doesn't like that being a legacy is even a thing though a lot of it definitely comes from her bitter resentment towards her mom and how she'd have rather leave her and her dad than leave the spy life hbsjhbsjhb also i think bc of her mom she has level 5 clearance which . . . she’s not complaining about but definitely complaining that clearance levels are even a thing, she’s gonna contradict herself a lot, i feel it

i THINK she’s only arrived, like, at the start of spring semester tbh, she wasn’t here for fall so she is new new

halfway through her first year at stanford studying art alongside film and media as a minor before her mom brought her to gallagher — which she's kind of not happy about like she understands her dad didn't want it for her, she also wanted to just stay in california but the only family she has now is on her mom's side.

she's still enrolled at stanford, though dropped her minor, and is studying online for her major as she's made it clear to her mom she doesn't want to be a spy so she pulled a few strings with the stanford admission board to allow her studying to continue ( idek if this is allowed i'm just pretending her mom is powerful enough to do it ) — it was a big reason chris agreed to come to gallagher, not that she had much of a choice, bc she wants her ‘ normal ‘ life and her ‘ normal ‘ degree regardless of being at a spy school

only her mom calls her christina and she actually hates it so pls dont unless you are trying to get on her bad side — also she probs avoids her mom like the plague so don’t bring that up either

often covered in little cuts and bruises from her skating but she’s got two fresh / soon to be scars on the left side of her face on the top of her cheek bone and on her jaw from a shards of glass when she was in the car accident — she is the type to pick her scabs until they bleed again, too, so i picture her with loads of little scars especially on her hands, elbows and knees

she did learn self defense from her dad growing up and she has studied jiujitsu and akido since she was around thirteen, she also boxes but it's more casual like for stress and stuff rather than something she takes overly seriously

she likes surfing, diving, enjoys the kind of world that exists underwater where it's just peaceful and calm so she will be around the lake a lot / at the pool if you need to find her

she’s 5’3 and never wears heels

Who is the most affectionate? Jin, no contest. He is the one who puts his hands on Iwai frequently like placing them on his shoulders to get them somewhere, caress his hair, let fingertips tap Iwai’s cheeks now and then. The worst part is that his touching can be subtle and so soft because he’s not aware of the effect he can have on poor Iwai so— that’s their life in the future!

HISTORY

prudence van holt’s birth is a mystery-- all she knows is she was dropped off at the fire station in a town outside of seattle, the only identification a baby blanket with her name on it. 

she ends up being adopted by a couple, the van holts, who always wanted multiple kids but could not after their first, a boy. 

growing up, she’s always been a little shit. she doesn’t mean to be. she just has an insatiable curiosity, sticking her nose in other’s businesses, finding lost things, she had a strange knack for it. it got her into a lot of trouble, children had no business sticking their nose into adults’ things. 

her brother never really liked her-- he always resented the fact their parents brought her home, took her in, when they already had a perfectly fine child needing attention. petty things, except it’s sparked a life long sibling rivalry that runs deep. 

it’s a pretty uneventful childhood, her parents are good people, they provide for her, and support her, despite her troublesome antics. 

she’s always been a lonely child, she’s never had the easiest time making friends, so she’s spent a lot of her time exploring the woods near her home. 

she’s thirteen when she discovers her mother, whom she always has written off as simply eccentric, is more than that-- she’s a witch. and a good one, too. her book club meetings she’s often privvy to walking through is more than that, it’s her coven. 

so of course, prue wants in-- how can she not? it’s a whole new world, working under her mother’s wing, driving a wedge further between herself and her brother. she tells her to be careful, to watch her back, that there’s bad people who want to do bad things with the power they wield. it instills a deeper ideal of trust no one in prudence-- one that sticks with her to this day.

and she’s dedicated to the craft! she takes time to learn the different meanings and uses of herbs, flowers, etc., makes potions, cast spells-- perhaps sometimes for personal gain, but she’s dedicated herself to using them to help others. 

she sort of becomes a private investigator in high school, not on purpose, but a friend tasks her to find out if her boyfriend is cheating on her, so tails him, catches him in the act-- gives him a little hex for good measure. 

it becomes a thing, people need something found? they go to her. think their partner is fooling around? they go to her. and she delivers, all with a little touch of magic. eventually, she wants to go deeper, take on more serious cases, but alas she’s only a teenager. 

sike! that doesn’t stop her. and as much as she hates cops, she has an in at the department through her father, so soon she’s not so legally trying to solve murders. 

and that’s all fine and dandy, until just a month shy of her eighteenth birthday, and two months before she graduates from high school, her parents get into a car accident coming home from a meeting one night. a drunk driver swerves into their side of the road, hitting them head on. neither survive. 

it’s that that has her change her mind about college, why go to college when she already knows what she wants to do? life is fleeting, and she’s hurting, so she graduates, and moves to eldstead, a town an hour and half away from her own home. it’s not a big change, but enough for her to have a fresh start. 

she knows something is different about the storm when it hits, that it brought about something... destructive. and she’s inclined to get to the bottom of all of it. it’s in her nature-- she has to snoop. 

she runs her own private investigation that used to serve eldstead and the surrounding area, but now it’s simply eldstead. she makes her own hours, and works alone, because she prefers it that way.

she’s really closed off-- she prefers to be alone, because of the shit she’s seen, and the people in her life, she just expects to be let down. 

when you first meet her, there’s a chance she’s just going to brush you off. she’s not exactly the friendliest person out there? 

will she be an asshole for the sake of being an asshole? no. absolutely not. but she is unflinchingly honest about her observations, and that doesn’t always go over well.

Alrighty so I’m off work and I got a chance to sit down and take my time, unboxing these ladies, and thought I’d take a few photos with my thoughts. Spoiler alert: I am VERY IMPRESSED LMAO Everything is below the cut!

Ya’ll have probably seen the box a few times, so I never took any photos of it- but basically the way it works is that you pull a tab on the right side, then pull the box out from the left side to reveal the doll and all of the surprises/clothes and accessories (this will all be demonstrated on Swag, since I deboxed her first): Sidenote- the box clearly states, on the outside, which character you’re getting! 

One compartment has the surprises, which consist of two garment bags with hangers attached (one has a bottom piece, the other has a jacket), a plastic shoebox (it even has a little label and barcode!) and a larger cylindrical container with the accessories (jewelry, belts, sunglasses, hats etc). The second compartment is the doll, her purse and a stand. Swag is gorgeous

Personally, I think her makeup would’ve been better if the eyeshadow was white and her eyes were brown, but she’s gorgeous.  Her head is fully rooted with nylon braids, and it’s ridiculously heavy and thick. Despite that, her scalp is visible at the top of her head and the thatching is an afterthought (like it’s barely there lol). The braids are rooted with a lot of space between each plug, and imo this gives the impression of a realistic braided style and I love it tbh. Even as a hair nut, I’m fine with this rooting pattern and the braids are stunning:

I didn’t take photos of the naked body, but I think there’s one floating around somewhere. These dolls are thicccccccccc, with rubber click knees and articulated arms.  Here’s a photo from my friend to show the amazing, detailed hand sculpt bc I forgot to take one! It looks so delicate, and look at the little dimples on her knuckles! So cute.

The garment bags are made of a papery fabric and open very easily (but I still ripped them oops lmao), the hangers are hard plastic. The tops and bottoms come in their own garment bags with a hanger, but here’s a picture of the top and bottom she comes with:

These pieces are VERY nice, exactly what you’d expect from a good MGA doll. realistic, stylish, well made. Pants are very well made, studs aren’t falling off (lol @ bratz 2018), and they have slits on either side. V nice! The sweatshirt is very nice too, the only issue is that the collar was flipped up in the package and it’s hard to keep down, and the fabric of the collar looks tattered- though I think this is a design choice, since they all seem to be like that! Swag comes with a necklace, earrings, a belt and sunglasses, wrapped in tissue paper in the cylindrical container (which is V useful for storage):

All unique sculpts, the earrings are electroplated and look amazing! Side note, the accessory count is not the same for each character. Some of them have extra pieces, or they’re missing a belt etc. Shoe box has a cute little pair of Stilleto Timbs (which made me chuckle, bc I have a pair of heeled Timbs and they’re my favorite shoes lol)

Each doll comes with a C-clasp stand, and underneath the base you’ll actually find an extra, smaller base for the stand, JIC you want to display them closer together or run out of room lol. Lemme just breeze through the other characters rather than show the same box and etc over again! Lady Diva prob has my favorite face and her hair is amazing, soft shiny nylon ponytail that goes down to her ankles (except for the puff in the front) it feels so silky and gorgeous:

She comes with an extra necklace and a headset (the little choker says ‘Slay’ lmao I love it) I aesthetically hate her skirt and purse because I do NOT like animal print, but the skirt is still well made (though it barely fits around her butt), her fur coat is shedding a little bit and the sleeves go past her hands.  Her two-piece undies are stunning though! You’ll also notice her belt is falling off- this is the only design flaw, the bels don’t have clasps, you just basically drape them over and they hang on in the back. But Diva’s is warped, so it  doesn’t drape correctly. Will have to fix that with boiling water.  I haven’t decided if I want to keep the hair puff, or comb it into a pompadour like Dynamite Girls Electropop Jasper. Will def be washing the gel out of her ponytail though. Royal Bee is STUNNING, her hair is incredibly thick and the little curls are so well done. The nylon is incredibly smooth and shiny, the blonde highlights are SO shiny that they look like tinsel. It’s really, really amazing hair. Her thatching goes all the way to the back of her head and it’s V thick.

Her lips are glitter, but it’s such a fine glitter that she just looks like she’s wearing a metallic liquid lip. I love her lil baby hairs and the metallic eyeshadow! I honestly didn’t think I’d like her makeup, but I think she’s one of my top favorite dolls of the bunch. She’s soooooo nice. The metallic cord around her buns is a nice touch, they really went there with every detail for this line.

I love her sheer pants and the incredibly detailed jacket, with the little metallic shoulder pads! I’m gonna leave her hair as-is for now, but I may eventually take down the buns and wash her hair.  My only issue with her is that her choker is really hard to put on lmao.  Neonlicious is super cute (but needs the most work hair-wise)

She has the most detail in her face, with two different eye shadows, star freckles and wiggly brows. The fact that she has wiggly brows is, imo, a sign that MGA really, REALLY spent a lot of time looking at current trends while designing these dolls, like they did in 2002-08 for Bratz. Her hair is very nice, my only issue is the sheer amount of product in it. The sides and fringe are drenched in it. Her short bangs kinda terrify me because it’ll be hard to even them out without making them too short, but the quality of the hair is amazing and she has a full set of crimps.  I’ll also probably cut the side pieces to match the rest, they’re annoying tbh. Her undies are very nice and will definitely be useful, versatile pieces for restyling. I hope we get fashion packs!!

Her glasses are awesome lmao, it’s such a weird design. The vinyl over-dress is very well done, with studs and stitching in place, and her jacket is very well tailored- you can even close it at the waist! She only has earrings and a bracelet jewelry-wise, likely because she comes with an (awesome) hat. She’s very like.. if Leloo from Fifth Element was a runway model, doing a show for a Moschino x Rugrats collection lmao. Very that, and I love it.  Group photo (with bad lighting):

Overall thoughts...ya’ll I hardcore LOVE this line. The level of quality and attention to detail is something I haven’t seen in playline for almost a decade, the designs are current, trendy and well tailored, the dolls themselves are gorgeous and unique, the body is well made, the hair is amazing quality and thickly rooted, literally not a single problem with these dolls, even the QC is great. Worth every penny, and I’ll definitely be buying the next wave. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Ngl, one of the reasons why I love Sam is bc he tries desperately to be good and normal, but out of him and Dean he's the more internally messy one, imo. Like the fact he's Lucifer vessel and Dean is Michael's is telling. I just love when they show him and Dean as flawed, painfully human individuals. It's probs why s4/Boy King Sam is my fave, and why I have no problem with s8 Sam's characterization. For me one of Dabbnatural's biggest problems is its severe lack of dark themes (and conflict).

See, my non-problem with season 8 Sam (mostly in regard to the Purgatory thing) is that he made a promise to Dean and the only thing more important to him than having Dean with him is having Dean’s approval, and he thought breaking that promise would result in Dean’s disapproval. Of course he WANTED to bring Dean back, but he promised he wouldn’t, and the fear of Dean’s anger at breaking that promise outweighed his devastation. And I love that because it’s in a way even more twisted than Dean’s thing. Like, Dean’s self-worth is tied to Sam being alive; Sam’s self-worth is tied to Dean’s approval. At least with Dean, there’s something to explain it--John drilling it into him every day as a kid, “take care of Sammy”--but with Sam, we don’t actually know what exactly led to that aside from “well, Dean was all he had growing up and he worshipped his brother into adulthood.” But we don’t know exactly what interactions in childhood led to an adult Sam being suicidal in response to having failed his brother.

Dean’s psychological issues are pretty straightforward IMO. Like we’re acutely aware of what happened to him as a kid and how it manifests now. His anger, his fears, his refusal to appear vulnerable around Sam in earlier seasons, etc. I have a theory that his bizarre interest in Sam’s sex life is a manifestation of “taking care of Sammy” but since he knows he can’t/shouldn’t take care of Sam’s sexual needs directly he ends up just being weirdly invested in Sam’s love life. He may actually not have any sexual interest in Sam at all (yeah I know that’s crazy coming from me) but it comes across that way because he has to TAKE CARE OF SAM IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. If he does have sexual feelings for Sam then it started with that general concept and evolved.

Whereas Sam? As I said in another answer, I love him and spend so much more time with his character than Dean’s, but I can’t tell you how he got this way. He knows how important it is to Dean for Dean to take care of him, but that doesn’t tell us how he came to believe that life is not worth living if Dean doesn’t approve of/respect him. I’m kind of hoping the upcoming flashback episode will give us a little psychological backstory.

Sorry, that was a tangent and like not at all related to what you were saying.

I actually think the lack of conflict between the brothers in the Dabb era is a good thing. I think most of us were getting pretty sick of Sam and Dean lying to each other and getting mad and then continuing to lie to each other. Like, why did they not learn? STOP LYING TO EACH OTHER YOU GUYS IT’S LITERALLY KILLED PEOPLE INCLUDING BOTH OF YOU.

Season 12 proceeded to have a brief, miraculous one-brother-lies-to-the-other arc that ended with Sam telling the truth before shit hit the fan and Dean being like “...okay, I guess.” Sam and Dean’s relationship is fun when it’s dark and angry, but I wanted them to get better and they have. Those werewolf brothers in 15x05 were a heightened version of the old Sam and Dean, the codependent, abusive, unbalanced pair of brothers that were sexy and romantic to watch or write about but also hurt because they’d never be happy. Their relationship now still has conflicts but conflicts that make sense (stuff about Mary, Jack, Ma’lak box plans, etc.) and I can see this Sam and Dean being happy together someday. Hell, they’re happy together now, it’s just that they have a huge problem to deal with that makes it really hard to enjoy that they’re happy together.

TBH, Supernatural doesn’t... do dark very well? Like, the darkest MOTW I can think of is back in season 11 with that vengeful spirit of a kid’s performer who may or may not have been a pedophile. (Feel free to suggest a darker one if you think of it.) I really liked that episode but I don’t think I’d want the show to go to a place like that every other week just like I wouldn’t want a Trickster/Gabriel episode more than once a season. This show is about two guys doing the best they can to make their shitty world a better place and the biggest things standing in their way are their codependence and apparently God. The SPN Family isn’t here for lessons about social justice and morality, or watching repeating depressing theses like “sometimes you have only bad options and you have to make a choice that’s not the right thing to do.” That’s not to say the show never does it or that it doesn’t have lessons to teach, but it’s not the point of it and I think Dabb knows that. That’s part of why fanfiction is so important; if you want your show but darker, somebody else wants that too and was able to write it.

This was all over the place and I don’t know if I actually said anything interesting or constructive but that’s about one and a half hours of my thoughts in response to your ask.
