Alright..little side project announcement. >:D

“KAGOME ISN’T A NORMAL GIRL.” Is a horror/slice of life webcomic I’ve been working on for a few weeks.

It’s about a creature/anomaly that disguises itself as a human girl to learn more about humanity to help its chances of survival (it eats people). While disguised as a human, it comes across something strange. Friendship.

one of the most boring lessons I’ve learned is that when a task feels overwhelming, you just have to start doing it. Even if you’re not sure how to do 90% of it, look for one small component that seems close and start there. Sometimes it’s reading one article on the topic, or searching one related term, or literally just googling how to do the task. Do anything other than thinking about it. The process of working on a thing inherently makes it less scary.

pathologic 3 announcement made me return to the classic game and finally play it properly! i think my favorite part of the bachelor's route is when he talks to maria kaina (or whoever's in her body at the time) and they explain that their planned Utopia isn’t even supposed to be a 'perfect' place but instead 'the mystical manifestation of a world inscrutable and inaccessible to men' going back to the original meaning of the word irl and instead of despairing Daniil fervently agrees that this kind of unimaginable leap is worth it, no matter where it actually leads

Chatsworth Visit

To start my project, I went to visit Chatsworth House and gather as much information to help me start off this project and fill in the gaps for my sketchbook work.I took as many pictures and captured the main and important objects in the house, along with the creative paintings, styles of each room including the little details that would massively be useful further in my project. The more pictures and zoom ins on the details in the house and outside the gardens, it would be more useful for my own collection i have to create based on Chatsworth and what I have seen here.

With the help of these pictures, I have to chose some things and sketch them out lightly including places I have captured for this project. Having an amount of sketches would be useful in my work and make it stand out in my sketchbook work I have developed.

I've shared a few pretty straightforward images using my CRT effect, but not much yet that really shows off what an over-engineered monstrosity I've created.

For a start, it's actually 3D. I built most of this in Blender.

Except for the optional bit that simulates composite video artifacts. I wrote that part in shader code and apply it to the base image as a separate step.

I made a high-res shadow mask texture, so it looks pretty good even from absurdly close up.

I can also adjust the scanline hardness and swap the slot mask for a dot mask or aperture grille to simulate different types of display.

Raytracing the whole thing ensures that all of these little details look nice and get sampled correctly, and if I want to change the glare reflecting off of the screen...

...I can adjust it by rearranging the furniture in the room.

So... yeah. That's what is current going on whenever I post pixel art with my CRT effect. It's not quite perfect yet, but I think it's getting pretty good.
