i can't stop thinking about how the relationship between Jones Hall and Conrad Earp is the heart of Asteroid City, how their one and only encounter (that we see) influences the entire film: Conrad writing a play about connection between people and the immediate connection between Jones and Conrad the moment they meet; the character of Augie becoming Jones, and Jones having his heart broken with each performance, a prelude to Jones' heart getting broken after Conrad's death; Jones initially knowing why Augie burns his hand but then doubting his interpretation and looking for an answer and meaning for the play and looking for the validation of the play director, just like he found Conrad's validation after his monologue when they first met; Conrad's play being also about death and grief, a grief that Jones has to perform without fully understanding it until that grief becomes real with Conrad's death, and so Augie and Jones truly become one man grieving the loss of his loved one; the scene with the actress playing the dead wife and the dream that would parallel both Augie and Jones, how they both feel lost and unable to move on, but the wife (and Conrad through the writing of the wife) urges them to move on and find love again; Conrad dying (what if Conrad was always meant to die? what if Conrad was doomed by his own narrative?) and in his death, giving Jones the grief he needs to play Augie and ultimately understand the play.

a brief and very unwarranted visual analysis of these two shots (and maybe this is all fairly obvious but let me have a second)

Caitlyn is looking down over Piltover and the “camera” focuses on her from a high angle. In traditional filmmaking, either combined or separately, these can be used to indicate that a character is a villain and/or that they feel or are weak. Despite this, it also indicates that Caitlyn is very powerful. She also takes up a lot of visual space in the shot but the vast middle/background combined with her dark uniform make her appear smaller in contrast to the cityscape around her.

Opposite to the way Caitlyn is framed, the “camera” angle for Vi is more in line what we’d see for a hero - a lower angle, looking up at them, making them look powerful. However, this is contrasted by the fact that she (lmao clearly) takes up very little visual space in the frame and is not the focal point at all. Even without dialogue it gives a very clear sense of how she feels. Vi blends into the background and is entirely overshadowed by the bright mural of her late father and Jinx.

Things I'd Like In Future Battinson Films

Poison Ivy and Mr Freeze. Done properly, done seriously, with parallels done between the two that highlight how similar yet different they are. A man who'll destroy everything for a chance to save the woman he loves and a woman who wants to save the planet she loves... do you see my vision

Hugo Strange. Someone (not sure who) envisioned Giancarlo Esposito as Strange and yeah I see it

Second film has a big 'I am the Night' theme and deconstructs and reconstructs that idea. He's not the Night because he is dark and brooding and hides in the shadows (though he does that) he's the reason people shouldn't fear the Night if they have done no wrong because he is There and Protecting Gotham.

Third film... scarecrow. Bruce gets toxined. We get 'I am vengeance, I am the night, I am batman!' from BTAS. It's iconic. Bonus if that's the first time he ever calls himself batman. Does he call himself that in The Batman? Someone remind me.

Anyone else find it kind of funny/annoying that everyone's kicking off about TWP being released in 2025/2026? CC has been writing TSC since 2007, that's 17 years with barely a break to write something else. I know if I do the same thing for a while it gets boring and I've seen some people's opinions of CoT and how her being burnt out doesn't help.

I guess I'm just saying to remember she's human? She has a whole life we're not subject to and a publishing company who have certain dates that she probably can't move.

Also, the sooner TWP comes, the sooner TSC is over, so there's that too
