๐Ÿ“š STUFF I READ ๐Ÿ“š
๐Ÿฅฐ The Last Devil to Die (Thursday Murder Club #4) (Richard Osman, author; Fiona Shaw, narrator) - still loving the characters, love to hang out with them & Osman's plots move along nicely so you don't get bored at all. Fiona Shaw's narration is great & as a little treat she & Osman have a nice little chat at the end.
๐Ÿฅฐ Four Letter Word For Intercourse (bendingsignpost) - 194K, destiel AU - adult college student Dean & professor (and phone sex worker) Cas - LOVE this fic so much & had kind of forgotten about it until it came up as a rec in one of my romance discord servers. Just, so good.
๐Ÿ˜Š Mrs Sidhu Investigates (Suk Pannu, author; full voice cast) - 2 episodes of the BBC Radio 4 program: #1 Murder with Masala; #2 Mrs Sidhu's Dangerous Highland Game - I prefer the slight changes made for the TV show's characterizations but still eminently enjoyable. (Meera Syal still absolutely rules!)
๐Ÿฅฐ Lucky Bounce (Cait Nary) - extremely delightful hockey romance. Low/no angst, charming, cutie MCs. Definitely in the 'no plot, just vibes' category which honestly I love when done skillfully.
๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–ย +102K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–
Ye Olde YouTube Love Story (Aria_Lerendeair) - The Sandman: Dreamling, 7K - love dreamling human AUs
Any Givens Sundae (dancinbutterfly) - Justified: Boyd/Raylan, 25K - excellently written 'what-if' pinging off a random line of dialogue: what IF Raylan had retired & decided to sell ice cream?
A Warning from Henry the Eighth (Writer_at_the_Table) - "I'm Henry VIII I Am" - Herman's Hermits: , 152 - a villianelle about I'm 'Enry The Eighth by Herman's Hermits - the creativity & cleverness of fan makers truly is boundless
master of a nothing place (strzyga) - Star Trek: Spirk, 6K - short, great fic about Spock going feral when they're trapped on a planet

After listening through some more psychobilly discography, I'm thinking AM at some extent would be a Meteor's fan, without really knowing it, just for the amount of songs that fit its vibe. I mean, looking at this alone, I could put it at the top of a playlist for this character and AM's whole vibe is pretty well encapsulated in Never Stop The Hate Train.
youtube
And then there's of course this one; I Hate People. That's pretty self explanatory.
youtube
There's also No Surrender, These Evil Things, I Could Kill You, etc. I could make a whole AM playlist with just songs from The Meteors at this point.

Ok this is the first time I ask a question here. In the future will Krow have his own Playlist? I love the character! And when I can, I want to draw a fanart using a story called 'The Haunted Dove' as a reference. Greetings from Argentina!
One day I'll make a proper playlist for him lolsob.
The tag #krow music has a couple of songs and stuff that Krow listens to and fits his vibe. He primarily listens to like... rockabilly and psychobilly type of music. But also some metal and punk. But I'll compile an actual playlist one day ha ha.
And if you do fanart (or any kind of fan content!) please tag me! I'd love to see and reblog to here so everyone else can!
Still wild to me people like this lil oc enough to put in the effort to theorize, make fan content for and stuff. It's immensely flattering.
And hello! Wow! Fans from all over the world. That's crazy to me. It's so cool that this little blog is reaching out to so many people. It's super cool to see.

Do you have any pink genre recs in terms of music? I want to get more into the genre.
-Hypermobile Franรงoise anon
hello!!! do you have any idea how hard this is for me to answer. i love rambling and being pedantic and going off on tangents. almost as much as i love punk music...
tl;dr i compiled a playlist for you, containing 3 songs from (most of) the bands mentioned below, plus a few extra from miscellanious artists bc 54 is my lucky number. it was hard to choose just 3 from some of my faves but i feel like this is a good introduction. long post to follow <3
instead of simply giving you a list and sending you on your merry way, i am absolutely going to spout off bc thats what i do and ur gonna regret asking. do you think you were gonna get off that easy? you absolute fool. sit ur ass down ur about to get schooled.
disclaimer; this isn't exhaustive. i'm not rattling off every single punk artist that's ever existed. just a few of my favorites.
the clash, the quintessential punk band in my opinion. defined the genre and embodied the political ethos. explored different subgenres througout their expansive discography. they were probably my first introduction to music as a whole since they're my dad's favorite band. i may be biased but i'd definitely say start with the clash. i'd recommend listening to their third album, london calling, first.
the pogues - the folk punk band of all time. NOT folk-punk like some smelly white man with dreadlocks screaming over poorly-tuned guitar. you'll know exactly what i mean when you hear it. they have a unique sound that just can't be replicated. and shane macgowan is actually such a beautiful person. their lyrics are also politically tinged, kinda gritty and edgy (i.e. gratuitous slurs) so not for senstive ears.
(i actually have a playlist of my fave pogues/shane macgowan songs)
the cure, in my opinion, invented goth or at least popularized it. their earlier stuff had more of a punk sound but every one of their albums is a perfect 10 to me. they're one of my favorite bands of all time and i could go on about them for hours so i'll leave it there. joy division, also more goth/post-punk but i love them, i have one of their album covers tattooed on my forearm lmao 19 year old decisions. no regrets (i also love the smiths, but they're not really punk punk.)
before you ask, no sex pistols!!! don't get me started on how much i hate the sex pistols i will throw up! god they suck. to me at least.
a lot of punks also listen to ska - no, not that kind of ska. 70/80s ska that originated from rocksteady/reggae. some of my faves in that arena being madness, the specials, bad manners, and the beat.
and as for across the pond - american punk artists.
johnny cash. no, seriously. man was punk before punk was defined.
my favorite band is probably social distortion. they're pretty different than those mentioned above, owing to their unmistakable americana sound and aesthetic. to me they're the quintessential rockabilly revival band, heavily influenced by country and blues. great guitar licks. think wistful and reckless all at once.
their frontman mike ness is an outrageously gorgeous man. he has two solo albums that absolutely slap. the happiest day of my life was seeing them live a couple years ago and he winked right at me - i promise i'm not delusional i swear he really did. ok i digress.
dead kennedys - hilarious lyrics and sick ass bass lines, very political and generally pretty iconic. one of my dad's faves. the cramps and the misfits. two bands overlapping goth + punk + psychobilly. pioneers of a campy subgenre known as horror-punk. i also really like danzig, the misfits frontman's solo career.
the velvet underground/lou reed - great example of american proto-punk. very NYC vibes. the pixies are a more grungy, later punk band. one of my mommy's favorites <3 i would unironically name my child velouria. definitely iconic but i find them overplayed sometimes, as in you've probably heard them at the grocery store.
this barely scratches the surface btw but i think that about covers it for today. sorry if i bored you to death pls come back and keep me company. peace and love on planet mpregfrance <3

hi again!! I'm finally getting into your music recs (I vibed to my Halloween rock/psychobilly playlist for a while but goth music is what I crave now) and Inner Noises and Contortion were fantastic, I really loved the style of both! love Double-Barrel Prayer too, it's such a song! also your recent reblog reminded me that I should listen more to Dead Disco Dancer by O Children (I caught it in an 'alternative hour' music channel program as a teen once, lol). thanks again for the excellent vibes <3
hey Edith!! you're very welcome, i'm glad you could find something of your liking :D i know listening to new music/songs can be a little jarring sometimes but it's always so worth it in the end! and you did post your Halloween playlist, right? i'll absolutely have to check it out ;)

in light of that hobie-brown-turned-music-recs post do you have any punk bands you recommend? I'm trying to get more into the scene so I'm always on the look out for suggestions lol
First, you can def check out this post with some stuff that I listen to fairly regularly.
But some other bands to expand your punk repertoire:
The Eyeliners: All girl band with vibes like the Ramones/Queers, very classic punk sound
Operation Ivy: One of the formative bands that helped ska punk establish itself in the united states. (Def not the ONLY band that did this, but possibly the most well known.) Also the frontment went on to form Rancid.
The Distillers: Late 90s punk, kinda more on the skater side but there's some songs that give me like... psychobilly vibes.
If you wanna try out Irish punk, I like Flogging Molly, the Tossers, and the Pogues, the Pogues being the saddest, much more folksy end of the spectrum but they were highly influential in the resurgence of 90s Irish punk so.
Some other bands from that 90s kinda vibe (what I'm most familiar with):
MTX / Mr T Experience (fun and fast, mostly goofy songs)
Furious George (Some Ramones did guest vocals on some stuff for them)
Screeching Weasel - classic punk sound, they're VERY similar to the Queers
The PeeChees - part of the riot grrl submovement
The Donnas - Another all girl set. They move from punk to alt rock to metal so they're real flexible but have a distinctive late 90s feel.
I tried to throw some lesser known names in there so hopefully that gives you some food to experiment with! Again, sorry everything I like is from the 90s, there's lots of great punk from the 00s and beyond but i'm probably not the best resource on that!

Flogging Molly Leader Bank Pavilion, Boston, MA 1 July 2022 ๐Ÿ‘‰ย click or scroll down for articleย ๐Ÿ”ฝ
After a five-year gap in releases, venerable Celtic folk-punk outfit Flogging Molly are set to return in late 2022 with their seventh studio record, Anthem. In advance of the August release, theyโ€™ve taken to the road with a substantial lineup to preview some of the new tracks as well as digging into their classic, well, anthems for massive crowds in outdoor arenas around the country. ย Joining Dave King and co. on the tour are The Skints, Tiger Army, and the Interrupters, the last of whom are co-headlining all the North American dates. ย The Skints run a wide gamut between dub reggae, ska, and all-out punk ragers, while Tiger Army brings west-coast psychobilly punkish vibes with an upright bass โ€“ as well as a cover of the classic Link Wray track โ€˜Rumbleโ€™. ย The Interrupters are an absolutely magnetic ska-punk fusion, guitarists constantly airborne (possibly the best use-case ever for wireless pickups), and vocalist Aimee โ€œInterrupterโ€ Allen is positively magnetic with a furious, wide-eyed delivery that finds her perched on the very edge of the stage, leaning over the crowd.
Taking the stage, Flogging Molly are a large seven-piece outfit with equal parts traditional and modern instrumentation: a fiddle, accordion, and electric banjo are balanced out by the traditional structure of guitar, bass, and drums, with King able to lean one way or the other at will on his acoustic. ย King cracks open a trademark Guinness early in the night and right away begins with โ€˜Drunken Lullabiesโ€™, the title track of their much-loved sophomore album. A couple songs later he quips, โ€œThis oneโ€™s for me!โ€ - turns out itโ€™s โ€˜Selfish Manโ€™, one of the first-released Flogging Molly songs that captivated hearts and ears nearly a quarter-century ago. ย Speaking of the Guinness, next comes โ€˜These Times Have Got Me Drinkingโ€™, the lead single from Anthem. Released back in March, its sentiment has only become more relevant as 2022 has worn on. ย It begins with a forlorn vocal, sounding on the studio version like itโ€™s trying to squeeze out of an ill-maintained phonograph, before a scratchy guitar stinger sees it explode into a seven-piece rush anchored by the banjo and bass while Bridget Reganโ€™s fiddle sings over top.
Itโ€™s one of a few tracks previewed from the new disc throughout the night, second of which is the as-yet-unreleased โ€˜A Song of Libertyโ€™, which King dedicates to the Irish diaspora and to the memory of the Easter Rising in 1916. ย โ€˜The Croppy Boy โ€˜98โ€™ โ€“ that being 1798 โ€“ makes reference a similarly rebellious period of Irish history, although the tale told is much more personal, a classic recounting of heartbreak and betrayal. As in many of the bandโ€™s tunes, Mike Alonso provides a rolling drum beat, and the whole of it possesses traditional, shanty-like quality, which makes sense considering the seafaring history of Ireland, what with it being an island and all.
Around the middle of the evening, thereโ€™s a man in the crowd whoโ€™s holding up a sign with some check-boxes on it, completed ones for New York and Boston, with an empty slot for Dublin. ย The reverse reads โ€œSee you fucks in Dublin!โ€ - to which the band are set to return after this leg of tour. ย Bassist Nathen Maxwell notices first and points it out to King, who cracks a smile and points him out to everyone. ย King is a real character as one might expect from a band such as this, lovably foul-mouthed and theatrical to the core โ€“ at one point during โ€˜Tobacco Islandโ€™ he untucks his long-sleeved shirt, wiggles its newly-liberated tails a bit, and then during an instrumental break does a high-kicking dance at each end of the stage.
Maxwell tightens accordionist Matt Hensleyโ€™s straps for him and the band moves into another early-period rouser, โ€˜Devilโ€™s Dance Floorโ€™, which features Regan on the tin whistle, a small type of flute. Before โ€˜If I Ever Leave This World Aliveโ€™, King pauses for a moment and dedicates the song to Al Barr of the Dropkick Murphys, as well as his mom, whom King says Barr is currently caring for at home. King starts the song solo on his acoustic guitar, but it evolves into a huge sing-along by the end. ย After evergreen hit โ€˜Whatโ€™s Left of the Flagโ€™, he summons the crowd in all singing a โ€˜Dโ€™ note together, sustaining it under the orangey lights of the pavilion, before closing the night with โ€˜The Seven Deadly Sinsโ€™. As has been true for the whole evening, everyone is joined together in song. The convivial atmosphere of a Flogging Molly show [my first, as it happens] is undeniably powerful โ€“ these songs, from the oldest to most recent, were truly meant to be sung along to, beers in hand, swaying side to side with old friends and new.

Band that has horror vibes:
Band: The Cramps
Year: 1976
Tumblr media
Some history:
The Cramps were an American punk rock band, formed in 1976 and active until 2009. The band split after the death of lead singer Lux Interior. Their line-up rotated much over their existence. Occasional bass guitarist Poison Ivy the only permanent members.
They were part of the early CBGB punk rock movement that had emerged in New York. The Cramps are noted as influencing a number of musical styles: not only were they one of the first garage punk bands, they are also widely recognized as one of the prime innovators of psychobilly. (Wiki, Contributors to Punk. โ€œThe Cramps.โ€ Punk Wiki. Accessed April 25, 2024. https://punk.fandom.com/wiki/The_Cramps.)
Tumblr media
1972 - Lux Interior (born Erick Lee Purkhiser) and Poison Ivy (born Kristy Marlana Wallace) met in Sacramento, California in. In light of their common artistic interests and shared devotion to record collecting, they decided to form The Cramps.
1975 - They moved to Akron, Ohio, and then to New York. soon entering into CBGB's early punk scene with other emerging acts like the Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, and Mink DeVille. The lineup.
1978 - They gave a landmark free concert for patients at the California State Mental Hospital in Napa, recorded on a Sony Portapak video camera by the San Francisco collective Target Video and later released as Live at Napa State Mental Hospital.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-
1980 - The Cramps relocated to Los Angeles in and hired guitarist Kid Congo Powers of The Gun Club. While recording their second LP, Psychedelic Jungle, the band and Miles Copeland began to dispute royalties and creative rights.
1982 - The band appears in the film Urgh! A Music War.
1983 - When they recorded Smell of Female live at New York's Peppermint Lounge; Kid Congo Powers subsequently departed. Mike Metoff of The Pagans (cousin of Nick Knox) was the final second guitarist โ€“ albeit only live โ€“ of the Cramps' pre-bass era.
1985 - The Cramps recorded a one-off track for the horror movie The Return of the Living Dead called "Surfin' Dead", on which Ivy played bass as well as guitar.
1986 - With the release A Date With Elvis, the Cramps permanently added a bass guitar to the mix, but had trouble finding a suitable player, so Ivy temporarily filled in as the band's bassist.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-
1991 - Knox left the band. The Cramps hit the Top 40 in the UK for the first and only time with "Bikini Girls with Machine Guns"; Ivy posed as such both on the cover of the single and in the promotional video for the song.
1994 - The Cramps made their national US television debut on Late Night with Conan O'Brien performing "Ultra Twist".
1995 - The Cramps appeared on the TV-series Beverly Hills, 90210 in the Halloween episode "Gypsies, Cramps and Fleas." They played two songs in show: "Mean Machine" and "Strange Love." Lux Interior started the song by saying "Hey boys and ghouls, are you ready to raise the dead?".
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-
2001 - On January 10 Bryan Gregory died at Anaheim Memorial Medical Center of complications following a heart attack. He was 46.
2002 - The Cramps released their final album, Fiends of Dope Island, on their own label, Vengeance Records.
2006 - They played their final shows in Europe in the summer and their very last live show was 4 November at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, Arizona.
2009 - On February 4 Lux Interior died at the Glendale Memorial Hospital after suffering an aortic dissection which, contrary to initial reports about a pre-existing condition, was "sudden, shocking and unexpected".

Hendrix Morris-Bailey : Billy's ex-girlfriend/friend/possible beard from California. Basically his only friend who's still talking to him. A very caring and level headed person. Has some DEEPLY hippy parents. Kind of raised herself because her parents are Like That. Loves skating, music and movies.
Cassandra Addams : Some random Addams cousin. She's Terrifyingly Psychic and ALL predictions come true. But ofc no one ever believes her. I mean her name is Cassandra what else did you expect? To try and get people to listen she uses, hints, clues, riddles, quotations, etc to get them on the right track to put it together themselves. She is blind and an albino.
Christie Loomis : A normie girl from Jericho. In the same year as Tyler. She's a perky petite athletic blonde. Big Bu.ffy Sum.mers vibes aesthetically. Her family are all avid hunters and work with Nevermore to patrol the woods on full moons just in case any werewolves get out (which they would then tranq and bring back to the school ofc). She's active, friendly, community minded and compassionate with a serious backbone. Desdemona Frump : Morticia's older other sister. Basically psychobilly fra.n dres.cher. Teaches history at Nevermore. 7 ex-husband (with some ratio of them dead). travels the global when not teaching the urchins.

infestissumam giving so much more psychobilly/rockabilly/punk than metal. Like, Horror Pops vibe hello
iโ€™m just a messenger
like, tell me Jigolo Har Megiddo and Ghuleh/Zombie Queen arenโ€™t and Iโ€™ll shut up.ย
maybe they were never exclusively metal and thatโ€™s okay and as a person who used to be big into metal and hard rock exclusively, the discussion on whatโ€™sย โ€œmetalโ€ or not is so boring
