Maze Runner Aus that have been locked in my brain for year's and have now finally found a way out

Tmr expect the Ivy Trio [Thomas, Newt, and Minho] are corrupted / the corrupted versions of them

WCKD is still a thing in this World except they never had a Maze plan in place, instead, they took to experimenting on the subjects to get the results they want.

Thomas was a subject that showed great promise, he seemed to have the flare but his blood would constantly be getting rid of it. WCKD decided to test his limits and see if there was a certain amount of the flare his blood can take. This resulting in him becoming half crank with his blood constantly fighting the flare but the flare always grows back.

Newt is a Crank subject, he is given potential cures to the flare very often which made him conscious of his mind compared to the other cranks, but he still acts like a crank just with self-awareness now. When he attacks people he doesn't do it mindlessly he does it with purpose and knows what he's doing.

Minho was another subject who showed promise with his blood being able to cure people for a short amount of time, expect his blood didn't contain the flare like Thomas's did so he went through a different experiment. Basically the same as the movie where they put him through realistic scenarios of his worse nightmares expect he ends up losing his mind and is unable to tell what is real and what is fake.

God Au

This story does not have a plot line yet, just characters

Thomas is the God of Heros and is considered one of the nicest Gods so if you want to communicate with a God, most people recommend going to him

Newt is considered a Pathway, which basically means he's a way to get to the Gods, him and Thomas have been married for thousands of year's, he is moral but keeps his morality with a necklace Thomas gave him that connects him and Thomas together. Basically, Newt relies on Thomas's life source to keep him alive. If the necklace is taken off nothing happens, he just goes back to being moral.

Minho is a moral in this Au, he does not have a role in this Au right now but he is the main focus of this Au, with Newt and Thomas being side characters at the beginning before being main characters later on.

The Graveyard Shift [Newtmas Au]

A simple sweet Au that was inspired by "The Nightmare Before Christmas" & "I have read the complete works of Montague Summers as well as Vampires: Burial, and Death and would just like to say the Penny Dreadful's are horribly inaccurate" by Singtome & "Amalgamation" by Tattered_Dreams

Thomas is a part of the Zombie population and quite literally lives in a graveyard, he is a part-time worker at a gas station that runs 24 hours, with him taking up the Graveyard shifts. Something features about Thomas is that he can not feel pain but that does not mean he isn't hurting, he's hand could be on fire and he wouldn't know until someone pointed it out. He is also able to rip off his hand, but only his left hand specifically since that was cut off before he became a Zombie.

Newt is basically Mothman and likes bothering the shit out of Thomas during his shifts. He has bright red eyes and large moth wings, at the beginning Newt would try to scare Thomas by popping out of nowhere, hanging upside down by the ceiling but Thomas has gotten used to it and doesn't even bat a eye.

There was a time when Thomas did scare the shit out of Newt when he got stabbed by a Robber but didn't notice until Newt pointed it out and all he said was "Oh,,,how did that get there? 🤨☝️"

Extra --> A small concept writing of this story expect Thomas works at a coffee shop instead with Brenda

October weaves through September, summer sun green leaves turning into fall orange and reds. Pumpkin spice hangs in the air, breeze passes through the town, and the sun covers up.  Thomas yells a “see ya” before leaving his home, closing the chain link fence behind him and sprinting through the dead weeds and cracked brick path.  He rounds the corner, using the lamp post as leverage to make a sharp turn. Busting open the doors of a dingy old looking coffee shop made of dark oak wood and filled with books, webs, and mold. 

The Flower Shop Down the Street [Newtmas]

Another short and sweet Au expect with superpowers

Thomas and Newt are around 26-30 years old, they are married and run a flower shop together, their flower shop is considered one of the most popular for the fact that Thomas has water base powers that allow him to water the plants more easily, with him being able to pick up water.

Newt on the other hand is a Planter but more on the weaker side of being a Planeter where he can't fully grow a plant but he can aid them in the growing process.

Extra--> I did write a short story about this but will only show some since I do not like the writing of it, I was like 14 when I wrote this LOL

Thomas places the watering can down the floor, next to a row of multicolored roses. And like magic, the water in the can float up, Thomas having his hands out. The water parted into four balls of water, all for different kinds of roses. He puts them into place above the plant stand, spreads his fingers out and let the water drop onto the roses like small rain droplets. Minho claps his hands in slow motion "ah, impressive" Minho says sarcastically. Thomas rolled his eyes " yeah I know, am the best " Thomas replies. He continues watering the plants the same way he did with the roses. Minho watching, the thing is, Minho wasn't born with powers and he always had an interest in them. When he was a kid he would pretend to have super speed and run across the field making 'zooming' sounds. He was kinda jealous of Thomas and Newt but he got over it and accepted the fact he was powerless. 

This is it for now but in the future I probably will draw fan art of some of these Aus or built more onto them

Fall words: fall colors, pumpkin spice

Road-tripping with Bucky Barnes was nothing if not an adventure. He knew all the most scenic routes, all the most off the beaten path places, and yet, somehow never got lost once.

“Wow, babe, you really know where to find the fall colors,” you commented, admiring the vibrant orange and yellow landscape you were driving through. “This is the perfect area for a fall getaway.”

“Can’t beat New England in the fall,” he agreed. “I’ve used this place before when I needed to lay low for awhile. The few locals know me and leave well enough alone. I get you all to myself for the week.”

He wiggled his eyebrows at you meaningfully and you smirked back, very much on board with this plan.

Minutes later, the car was pulling up a winding driveway to park in front of a small, rustic cabin. It wasn’t Airbnb quality, but it had a very appealing charm to it. A thin trail of smoke was coming out of its chimney.

“I had a friend stop in and freshen it up a bit,” Bucky explained, as he helped you get your duffle out of the trunk. “It was set up for bachelor roughing it, and this is definitely not that kind of a trip.”

The inside was even more delightful than the exterior and you went about exclaiming over the beautiful craftsmanship of everything and the homey decor. A red kettle sat on the stove and the table had a bowlful of apples atop a simple red and white checked runner strewn with pine cones and acorns. On the counter sat a bakery box that you found to contain delicious pumpkin spice muffins.

“Oh, my,” you said through a mouthful of muffin. “This is paradise!”

“Mainly because you’re here, doll,” Bucky said happily, pulling you in for a kiss.

Hmmmnnnnnhhhhh cold cold pumpkin pie with Cool Whip but it has to be GOOD. It has to be made a particular way, and since my aunt isn't around to do it any longer, I have to wait for Walmart to put out their holiday pies. The big ones (only the big ones, the smaller ones have a different recipe) are exactly right. The only ones I have found. The texture has to be firm and well-set but relatively smooth, and the spice balance needs to be right.

Failing that, my own ginger cookie recipe. Could eat no other cookie for the rest of my life and count myself among the blessed.

The Accidental Date

Criminal Case Fanfic

Characters: GPD, cc suspects

Parings: Cathy/Alex (platonic/two sided), June/David (one sided that I may have accidentally evolved into two sided/platonic/canon x oc)

Chief King give June and Jones an odd mission to watch over Cathex. (I was at a pier so I got inspiration plus I make too many angst fanfics so here fluff)

"Can I have Inspector Jones and Captain Shiloh in the chief's office, please? I repeat: may I have the paring Captain Shiloh and Inspector Jones in my office, please. Like, right now."

"What... HE'S AT IT AGAIN, ISN'T HE." June slammed his hand onto his face.

"He's been at it. He just won't let them be." Jones stood up from his chair.

June and Jones made it to Chief King's office and SHEESH did he look pissed.

"Cathy planned a date with Alex again. AGAIN." Chief King was tapping his fingers onto the desk. "And well... I need a favor from you two."

"You want us to watch them."

"Now, Shiloh, there's no need to be depressed about it. Cus if this was your kid, you'd be as pissed." Chief King placed his hand on his cheek. "Now, I wasn't gonna suggest this, but yes, I need you two to watch them. BUT! Try not to let them see you two. Go in disguises if you have to."

"Oh come on Chief, this is our night off... it's like what! 10:36 right now!" June was tired of this happening.

"Their date is at the pier."

"... I'm in, I heard they had the best pumpkin spiced cakes there." June was suddenly motivated.

"Alright... to the pier it is." Jones was also a little motivated for the pier.

Cathy and Alex made it to the pier.

"I really love how the streets are covered in lights..." Cathy looked around to see how pretty the pier at night time was.

Alex looked around and sure, the pier was beautiful. But it couldn't match Cathy's beauty.

... If only he had the courage to tell her that.

"Ooh! There's an arcade. I bet you 5 bucks I can beat you at 3 out of 5 games!"

"Oh, you're on."

They entered the arcade and wow. There was a bunch of people. Huh. Even some couple who were looking confused with a game were trying to have some fun.

"How about a race game? I know you can be a slow runner." Cathy smirked with confidence.

"Oh really? Well, I bet we could test and see if I got game."

Cathy and Alex headed off to the racing games.

Meanwhile, the 'couple'...

"Remind me why did I have to wear this again?" David was wearing a simple blue dress with a yellow hat along with it having a green ribbon attached. He also has green shoes to match the hat's ribbon.

"Cus I have the beard. Sure, you're tall, but people would be more confused about faces." June placed his black hat onto his head. His hair was in a bun as he had a red collared shirt with green jeans and red boots. "Look, when we leave for their next destination, I'll pick us a different outfit. But right now, we gotta keep an eye on them. They just headed to the car games."

"Well, let's get this over with, cus this dress is too long for me. Not that I hate dresses, I just hate this dress."

June and David headed to the car games to find Cathy and Alex racing with the screens on different sides.

"They're... literally fine. I don't know why we had to get here." David started to twitch in the dress. "Huh. It seems like Cathy even won and Alex isn't mad."

"Yep. Oh wait! CATHY'S COMING THIS WAY!" June looked around and accidentally pushed David and himself into a photo booth.

"I'll be right back Alex, I'm going to drink some water! Don't cheat while I'm gone!"

"Cheat! Hah! Just because you won this round doesn't mean I'll give up, I'm warming up for the next round!"

Cathy gave a little smirk before heading off. "Geez... he really is that cute."

In the photo booth, David couldn't help but giggle. "She said he's cute! He really does have a chance with her!"

"Don't be too silly. It was only their first date and this is like what. Their third? Fourth? ...Okay, maybe they do." June looked around the photo booth. He noticed the picture's filters. Animals, bakery, love, treasure, movie theater....

"Do you wanna take one? Just because the chief put us on a little mission doesn't mean we can't have a little fun!"

"... Fuck it. Sure." June pulled out his wallet and used his $5 for 4 pictures in one strip.

One pic started with David smiling and trying to get June to smile as well (it worked). Another pic followed with funny faces. Another pic followed with them trying to act like each other by David acting mean as June acted silly. The pic followed with David acting like Alden and saying the dumbest shit which made June laugh.

They were able to get two copies for each to keep. David peeked out the curtain. "I think they're leaving the arcade. We should go."

"How do you feel about candy?" Alex and Cathy went to the store

"I love it! Especially the cotton candy."

Following the date was David and June. Only this time, David was wearing a white t-shirt with a leather jacket and jeans with red and black shoes, along with him letting his hair down as he wore a red mask. Meanwhile, June was wearing a black shirt with yellow pants and grey shoes. He was also wearing a necklace with a cross while letting his hair down, only tying some of it behind. The theme was chosen as bakery.

"We should get this one! It has a bear holding it."

Alex checked the price of the bear with the cotton candy. "It's just $8! That's pretty cool!"

Alex picked up the bear as they headed to the register.

David looked around. "How do you feel about candy?"

"Hate it. I can only tolerate pumpkin spiced cake."

"Oh..."

June looked at David with a little regret. "Look, man, if you want some candy, I won't stop you."

"It's not that. I think I may have left my wallet in the car."

"... I'll get it."

"It's cool, I can just go ba-"

"Gotta focus on these two. But like you said, David, we can have some fun."

"... Alright. But I'll pay you back-"

"No. You're my friend and that's what matters. Besides, I save A LOT, so don't bother. Now, what's on your mind?" June looked around the place.

"Uh..."

"Please do not eat it all at once. You'll get a fucking stomachache." June and David left the store as David carried the bag of sweets.

"I'll try." David looked around to see Cathy and Alex head into the amusement park.

Alex looked at the rides. Some were little, some were... tall.

Cathy looked around with an amazed look on her face. "Dude, they have so many cool rides!" She also happened to notice that Alex looked at unease about the tall rides. "Hey, don't worry! Just because I wanna go doesn't mean you have to go. Besides, there's this cool ass ride I heard about that you could probably be chill with!"

"Oh really?"

"Yeah! Over there!" Cathy pointed to the Love Tunnel.

Yeah, as much as he hated tall rides, he'd rather suffer on those than suffer with embarrassment from in there. But since Cathy wanted to go there... "Sure! Why not..."

The line was short so they and some other people got to go on a ride. Alex looked around and saw angels and smiling faces and hearts that made his heart fluffy.

As much as this kinda made June's heart fluffy.

Behind Cathex was the undercover duo. June was wearing his hair down with a black scarf on it and had a red t-shirt and black Jeans with red and white shoes. He had a mask on. David was wearing a green sweater with a white scarf on his hair which was now in a small ponytail to match June's scarf. He wore blue jeans as before and white shoes.

June was having a hard time with focusing on the Love Tunnel's theme. "Ughhh... why did we have to go through this..."

As June looked around, David was also looking around. But only oblivious. "We should be able to go early. They seem okay."

"Might as well text Chief King our progress so far." June pulled out his phone to be distracted into the mission again.

Huh. Now that David thought about it, this place was rather... lovey-dovey. But it wasn't just the place. It was how Cathy and Alex's date choices. at the pier seemed... off. No, Cathy and Alex were perfectly fine. It was... how him and June were handling it. First, the photo booth, then the extra candy, now... this.

Then he realized. This isn't even feeling like a mission anymore. This seemed to feel more like... a double date?!

Somehow, David noticed his face going warm. He looked into the water below the rides and... his face turned red. Then he turned to June and noticed his face was just as red. Maybe it's the context of the date that no one knows about really. Maybe Cathy and Alex can't see through their disguises, but some other people could. Maybe they're both embarrassed.

Maybe they both noticed that this was... embarrassing. .... Or something that... is making him feel... warm. And the air... was cold.

June looked back at his phone with a sigh of relief. "He said we should be good to leave the situation. Hopefully, Alex will be at work tomorrow."

David answered without looking at June. "... Yeah. Great." He looked around and saw that they were about to come to a stop.

"Do you... still wanna hang out after this? Today?"

David looked at June with even more red on their faces. "... Yeah."

Shit. David was not gonna forget this, was he.

As Cathy and Alex looked around to see if June and David were still following him, they started to laugh.

"Finally! We should let my grandpa know and tell him that we got some photos of these two!"

"I'm actually suprised this worked. Those two gotta get together some day, their tension is ridiculously funny as hell."

Cathy gave Alex a shoulder bump. "They're just so dorky in love. Ughhh, you should have turned to see their faces when they weren't looking!"

So for context: Chief King did approve of Alex and gave Cathy and Alex a mission to trick June and David into going to certain places. So Chief King setted June and David up without them realizing.

"At least you took a picture."

"Yeah."

Cathy and Alex walked back while holding hands to Alex's car which was a few blocks away. And honestly, their date was fun.

Annotated Halloween Showcase 1

A seasonal inter-chapter bonus: the first few years’ worth of pumpkin-spice-flavored BICP art.

Bianca is Moon, of course, with Sparrow as her Mars and Patrick as her Luna.

Camellia is Venus, because Reseda makes a perfect Artemis.

Jany (who hadn’t even debuted when I posted this) is Jupiter, and Miranda is Mercury. I thought about swapping those two — Miranda’s more analytic than Jany, but Jany’s arc will have some other parallels to Mercury’s, and besides, she’s awfully short for a Jupiter. Could go either way.

Cybele doesn’t quite fit the theme of the picture, as she’s the only nonhuman playing a human. Still, her color scheme was too close to Chibi-Moon‘s to pass up.

I submitted this to a Halloween art contest, where the contest-runner’s aspirations were, shall we say, out-of-proportion to their results. There were 3 entries, total. The winner was chosen by viewer polling, but on a site with no security or authentication at all — the only limit to “how many duplicate votes can I cast for myself?” was “how much free time do I have?”

I cast a bunch of votes. My housemate at the time even pitched in. My reward for this not-at-all-artistic achievement was $50…and a custom-engraved reward plaque. Like, a physical chunk of acrylic, emblazoned with my name and shipped in the mail. Useless to me, impossible to repurpose for anything else, pointless to give away, and probably cost at least another $50 to produce.

I wish they’d kept the money. (Or added it to the cash reward. But even keeping it for themselves and using it for pizza would’ve added more good to the world.)

…but, uh, setting that whole long tangent aside, at least the art is pretty cute.

2013 Halloween special:

Tiny Miranda and Poe on a table with Halloween cupcakes and candy. The gravestone-decorated cookie is the most on-the-nose in terms of Miranda’s arc…but I also really the appreciate the idea of “she dressed up as a sexy Pokéball.”

I still like the shading on this one. It was done in Paint Shop Pro, which has a pauper’s brush selection compared to PS or CSP, and now most of those drawings make me think “ugh, could’ve done that so much better.” But here, I got weird/experimental with the colors and hues, and I think the limitations of the brushes work with the results instead of hampering them.

I know Who Killed me Chapter 4

"Charlie!" shouts my mother i have been in bed all morning it's summer vacation i can't believe my first year at Anoka Middle has gone by this quickly. this fall i will officially be a eighth grader, holy shit. i go downstairs where my mom and sisters are waiting in the kitchen. 

"Happy Birthday!" all three shout at once. today i turn fourteen. 

they have a breakfast spread all over the dinner table and i am suddenly feeling i'll, not on a empty stomach but because i want to maintain my empty feeling. they sit me down and i put a fake smile on. i'll eat it, i just need to puke it up later than i will go for a long walk. maybe i can even start running?

i take a bite and i make sure to really chew each bite.

to others this would be heaven but for me it's awful, i can feel the fat latching onto my body i need to get rid of it now. 

i go upstairs put on a grey oversized sweater and gym shorts grab my Nike runners and leave the house. it's the morning but the heat of summer is very much present on this walk, maybe i should have worn a t-shirt? i do a few laps around our neighbourhood and make my way to downtown i look at the shops and decide i want a coffee, which seems to be the only thing i find safe to eat. sparky's cafe is my go to spot, i like to get a iced coffee or a pumpkin spice latte in the fall. i would kill for a Pumpkin Spice Latte right now. it's also closes to the river side park, the walk i like to take when i clear my head.

the walk home is peaceful i feel better, i just need to get back to 110 i'm at 120 and once i'm back i'll be okay. i turn the corner at 2nd ave to walk the path at Akin river side park, i will walk up towards river ave it's a far walk but i need it right now.

today would have been Charlie's 15th birthday i can see it now, we would have had a nightmare before Christmas or a twilight theme but specially the first movie for the 'cold vibes' and he would have dressed up like Edward Cullen or even Bella Swan. the Cake would be chocolate with chocolate icing because he loved chocolate. i know him so well, i think i knew him better than his family did. 

i walk down to the Akin river path because it's where Charlie spent most his time, he loved to walk the path. sometimes he would be here for hours, if his mom couldn't find him i knew he was always here. i spent that first week after he went missing down here, hoping it was all some joke or misunderstanding and that he would be by the docs or resting in the trees. i would be able to find my boy, but that day never came. i didn't leave my bedroom for weeks, my parents were scared that i might flunk out of the seventh grade.

god i wish he were just missing. how can you be dead Charlie? and why can't i remember that night, i've tried so hard to remember details, were we followed? did you get chased by some high school kids and a prank go too far, did one of us do something? and why can't this fucking town find who killed you?

by the time i get home it's almost noon, my mom is sitting at the dining room table with a coffee i pour myself a cup and sit with her. she's reading her wellness book and i look at the title it's a diet book, she doesn't need that i do. i look at the book with interest, she catches me so i look away. 

"you're so lucky" she tells although i have no idea what i'm 'lucky' for.

"for what?" i ask because i must know now. 

"you're so skinny and you don't need to try..."but i do have to try, what does she mean skinny? i'm huge. there's a small bump in my lower belly that was never there before, and i can't see the ribcage anymore. i'm anything but 'skinny', i need to work out more shes clearly making fun of me.

i don't talk anymore i just sit, i don't wanna make a scene or cry or something. she slips a small wrapped gift to me. 

"happy birthday "

"what is it?" i ask.

"open it." i start to unwrap the paper and i see a small iPhone box. i look up and smile, all that anger i just had slipping away, i'm now excited it's my first iPhone. my older sisters got one when they turned fourteen so i was hoping i'd get mine this year.

"i know it's not the newest model, but your cousin Riley didn't use it anymore a-" 

"it's perfect!" i scream. 

i rush to my room and get it set up, i used to use a iPod  touch but this is the real deal i cannot believe it. after setting it up i DM my friends that i got a phone and to send me their numbers. the party is tonight and i told everyone it's going to be a villain from a horror movie. the party starts at seven so i need to get to setting up.

the walk to the train is freezing it's pouring rain today. i'm cold and i can just use a warm coffee, i'll go uptown near Anoka station i know sparky's is a few blocks down i'll catch the bus to main street and walk the rest of the way. i realize now i just made an entire circle around the city and somehow ended up back near the riverside path.

the party starts and the three are showing up, they dressed up as their favourite horror movie villains: Ethan is Freddy from Nightmare on Elm St, Liam went as Jason from Friday the 13, Olivia decided on Annabelle from the conjuring, i went as the best villain in my opinion: GhostFace from the Scream Franchise, the best horror franchise in my humble opinion. 

the lights are blinking orange and green the kitchen has neon purple light bulbs and all the snacks are in the dining room including the cake. i invited a few others from our grade but i never got a RSVP so as usual it's the core four, mom and my older sisters, they dressed up as the twins from the shinning and my mom decided on Winifred from Hocus Pocus. we play uno which always starts an argument between everyone and people get accused of Cheating ( not sure how they can cheat.)

"Uno!" Olivia shouts, but from the mischievous look Liam has i guarantee he's going to make her pick up four cards, he also has one card left.

he slams the 4+ card down in front of Olivia.

"Nope, now you gotta pick up four cards Liv." he is so proud of himself. 

"ugh, Liam!" she's mad now.

"Not fair!" she whines.

"You're just not fast enough, nice try though." 

the next round is almost done and Liam only has his single card, i'm waiting for him to put it down. "do it, i dare you" i say in my mind.

he puts it down and i shout "UNO!"

he glares at me and i keep his stare, i smirk and he gives me one right back. this game is getting heated.

"will you two stop flirting?" Ethan tells us breaking the silence.

"shut up Ethan." Liam says. okay we are clearly done with Uno, i need to switch the Activity soon or all three will literally murder each other.

"cake?" i ask. Ethan is already rushing to the dinner table where all the snacks and my birthday cake is. 

"Mrs.Summers Charlie wants to do the cake!" Ethan screams.

"it's Carol weirdo." my mom says coming out of the kitchen with a fresh cup of coffee. we laugh because it's true my mom hates being called mrs.summers or ms summers or miss summers, just call her Carol. she says calling her by her last name makes her feel old. 

"Sorry..." Ethan says but he's only teasing. 

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR CHARLIE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU" everyone is singing.

as i watch them all sing i wish we can sit here for a few moments longer, because little do they know, i will be murdered on Halloween night. i blow out my candles. everyone claps in celebration here's to Fourteen, and the last five months i have to live.....

the sheriff is in the principals office and everyone is in the hallway watching with confusion. why are they here? 

"Can the Following Students report to the principals office immediately: Liam Green and Olivia Bennington, thank you." i'm frozen again, it's just like last year. i am met with everyone staring at me i look down the hall at Olivia who's already look back at me, she's just as confused.

the office feels cold when we walk in, the sheriff is already in the office with the principal. we walk in together.

"Hi?" Olivia says.

the sherif turns around and looks at us both, i don't say anything but i'm very cautious.

"Ethan Lowry is missing." he flatly says.

i look over at Olivia and back at the sheriff.

Chicago Fire Season 1 Ep. 4 "One Minute"

Chief Boden is accused of leaving a homeless man to die in a warehouse fire after ordering his men to evacuate the scene. This has created bad feelings within the department. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Severide helps an elderly woman. Detective Voight is trying to stop Casey from testifying against his son. Shay is reminded of her ex-girlfriend Clarice when she sees her and her husband during a call. Herrmann gets angry during a rescue at a Halloween party.

Shay and Dawson arrive at the firehouse with pumpkins and candy, getting ready for Halloween. When Mills is upset about the lack of spices, Dawson shows him where she keeps them. He looks at her sadly as she leaves. The fire alarm goes off, waking the firefighters. The truck speeds towards an abandoned warehouse that's on fire. Seeing the door's been pried open, Severide suspects there are squatters inside. The men work quickly to evacuate the homeless, but th Chief, watching black smoke rise, predicts an explosion and orders everyone out. Mills follows the Chief's orders and leaves a homeless man still sleeping in the burning building. Seconds later, the buildidng explodes. Mills watches, feeling guilty.

The next morning, Herrmann goes straight into the chaos of his family's kitchen. His three kids are running around in their Halloween costumes while his wife, Cindy, makes lunches. She hands him the newspaper, which says, "Homeless Man Dies in Warehouse Fire". Herrmann's face darkens. As he leaves for work, his oldest son, Luke, stops him questioning what happens if he gets hurt again. "Then I'll get better again," Herrmann says with a smile. "We Herrmanns are tough."

At the firehouse, Mills questions Casey about following orders at a scene. He's still upset over leaving the homeless man in the building. Casey tells him not to worry about it. In the locker room, Severide's shoulder hurts. Vargas notices and asks if he was hurt at the scene, but Severide says no.

In the kitchen, Cruz, Otis, and Mouch discuss Casey's testimony against Voight's son. They worry about Casey. Voight is not someone to mess with.

Herrmann enters, still angry at the newspaper headline. Chief Boden announces Jose Vargas' move from Truck to Squad. The guys react, while Casey respectfully shakes his hand. Nicki alerts Casey that his car is damaged. Casey, Cruz and Herrmann run outside to check it out. The wheels on the truck have been popped, the windows on the driver's seat have been shattered, and Casey's gym bag has been stolen. Cruz thinks it was kids on Halloween, but Casey thinks otherwise. He calls the police. Inside the firehouse, the alarm goes off as the men are called to a house fire.

Severide arrives at the scene and sees that the fire is out. He talks to Mrs. Grady, an elderly woman who lives there. She says they were at her house two weeks ago, putting out a fire in her car. Mrs. Grady says she's had bad luck. Severide notices some teenagers hanging out nearby. He thinks they might be involved. Two fires in two weeks isn't just bad luck.

At the firehouse, the crew is watching TV when Chief Boden sees a news channel interviewing the brother of the homeless man who died. The brother is upset with the firefighters for not going back into the fire to save the man. An awkward silence fills the firehouse as Boden turns off the TV. Later, Mills apologizes to Boden for overstepping his boundaries at the scene, but Boden says it's okay. He wants his men to ignore the bad press.

Shay and Dawson set out candy in front of the firehouse and run into Hallie. Dawson compliments Hallie's shoes, and it's revealed that both women are runners who compete in 10Ks. The competition intensifies, and Shay sends Hallie away to Casey's quarters. Casey is surprised to see Hallie, but it turns out to be a pleasant surprise.

Meanwhile, the Chief receives a visit from Sondra Sherman, an attorney with the City's office. She asks him about the warehouse fire. She says Marc Thorne, the victim's brother, is worried about how the fire was handled. Sherman says the City is on the Chief's side, but the Chief sends her away.

Back at Mrs. Grady's, Severide and Officer Hiller question her about the two fires. She says they were accidents and shuts the door on them. Officer Hiller buys her explanation, but Severide thinks someone is after her.

At the firehouse, Attorney Sherman asks the Chief to talk to Thorne to smooth things over. Sometimes a simple conversation can avoid a lawsuit, but the Chief won't back down. He's done nothing wrong, and neither have any of his men. He has nothing to apoligze for, even if his job is on the line.

In the laundry room, Nicki asks Shay for a key to her apartment. She thinks that her father coming to yell at Severide may have pushed him away, and she wants to set up candles and champagne as a surprise for Severide. Shay says Nicki's dad isn't the problem, but her fiancé is. She won't give Nicki the key.

Shay and Dawson help a caterer with a cut. They're asked to look at the mother-to-be. They're shocked to see that it's Clarice Schwartz. She was Shay's girlfriend. In the ambulance, the two women can't keep their eyes off each other, even though Clarice's husband is sitting right next to them.

At the firehouse, Mills' sister stops by to bring the guys food. She and Severide flirt, but she's gone in a flash.

Marc Thorne interrupts a pickup baseball game at the firehouse to speak to Chief Boden. Boden apologizes for Thorne's loss and Thorne questions his motives. Herrmann steps in and asks why Thorne is only concerned about his brother after he has died. Marc wasn't there when his brother was trying to keep warm in a warehouse. Boden and the others are firefighters. They save people for a living, and they tried to save his brother. But Chief Boden made the call he had to make. "Just be glad you never have to do that," Herrmann tells a stunned Thorne. The rest of the firehouse watches on.

The whole staff remembers Clarice and none of them liked her. When Dawson says that Clarice is married and pregnant, Otis says that she was always on the edge. Shay is not happy.

The truck goes to a Halloween party. As Shay and Dawson take care of the seizing man, a drunk frat boy dressed as a firefighter starts causing trouble. "Don't tell them you're homeless... they won't help you!" he mouths off. Herrmann shoves the guy, but Casey stops it.

Sherman is still lurking the hallways and has bad news for the Chief. The M.E. said Jonathan Thorne did from the explosion. The department is putting together a committee. The Chief walks away slowly and shuts himself in his office, pacing.

After the Halloween party, Casey goes outside and sees Detective Voight waiting for him. Voight is wearing a leather jacket and leaning against an unmarked police car. Casey is nervous, but Voight gives him his gym bag. When Casey opens the bag and sees the cash, he looks up at Voight. "This isn't mine," he says. "Guess the kid stashed it in there." Voight replies. He tells Casey that the only way to stop him from bothering him is for Casey to change the report about Voight's son driving drunk. Casey puts the cash on the car and walks away, with Voight following him.

Casey tells Dawson about Voight's bribe. Dawson is horrified and suggests they tell her brother. Casey just wants to testify and let the courts handle it. He doesn't want to tell Hallie either.

At their apartment, Shay and Severide are drinking. Shay is slurring her words as she talks about how different Clarice is now. She has a floor-to-ceiling wine rack. We learn that Shay and Clarice dated for three years. Shay has a right to be heartbroken. Nicki knocks on the door and heads up to Severide's bedroom. She's expecting a good night, but instead Severide hands her a beer and says he was engaged too. Moments later, we see Nicki exit the apartment, crying.

The next morning, Sondra tells the Chief that a settlement's in the works and Thorne has dropped all the charges.

The guys go to Mrs. Grady's apartment again. Someone threw a Molotov cocktail through the window, starting a fire. Mrs. Grady is on a stretcher, her eyes wide as she breathes through an oxygen mask. Severide says he won't go to the police, but she has to tell him what's going on. Later, we follow Severide up a flight of stairs to a smoky apartment. He knocks on the door of two teenagers, drug dealers whom Mrs. Grady once called the cops on. Severide threatens to break their knees and drag them to the police station if they set fire to her property again.

The next morning, the Chief is sad as he says Nicki quit her job. She broke off her engagement and left for Europe, so they need to fill the position. Dawson sees Shay dialing Clarice's number and stops her. She knows Shay still loves her. Shay knows Dawson's right, but she still feels sad about a lost love.

In his office, the Chief sits down with Mills and tells him that he once thought he could save a victim. He and his friend ran into the building but didn't see the fire. They lost the victim, and Boden lost his friend. The scar on his back reminds him every day of the price you pay when you try to beat the clock. It's his job to make sure his men never have to get those kinds of reminders. "You're going to make one hell of a firefighter," the Chief tells Mills, "Just like your dad was."

Minutes later, we follow Mills to the Chicago Fire Academy, where he stares at the memorial for fallen firefighters. Across from him is the badge for Henry Mills, who died in 1992.

Elsewhere in Chicago, Severide and Shay are walking down a street full of bars and shops. Shay cries as she admits she really thought Clarice was the one. Severide kisses her on the forehead and guides her down the street.

At the firehouse, Casey gets an emergency call and rushes to Hallie. In the hospital lot, he sees her car has been broken into. Casey says nothing, but he is shocked. He realizes he and his loved ones are being targeted.
