The student in front of you had his hands in his hair as you attempted to walk him through Pythagoras theorem, no matter what he could no get to the right answer so, you called it a day. Shutting your tutoring books, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder as you escorted him out; your mind scrambled from the amount of energy you had put into trying to make mathematics easier for him… sadly it wasn’t working. You wondered whether you were truly the right tutor for him, even though you were exceptionally gifted at numbers and scientific equations. When you shut the door behind him, you pressed your back against the strong white wood and massaged your temples; aching for some kind of realise. The bottle of red wine he bought you a week ago for being such a good girl was sitting in your fridge, gagging to be opened so, naturally, your feet glided you towards your silver fridge; the blue light shining in your eyes as the wine stood in the middle, shimmeringly untouched. With your wine glass in your hand, fluffy socks and silk pyjamas you collapsed into your feathered couch, switching on the tv, flickering through the channels until something caught you.
Knee deep in your show, a knock sounded, your head whipped towards the door… who could be calling? You thought. You set your glass on the coffee table, softly padding your feet towards the door. The man. In his grey blazer and pant suits with a white shirt pulled taut against his lean body, his famous briefcase pulling tight to his legs; as always, his little smirk that sent your mind reeling.
“Y/N,” he stated, smirking.
“I-I had no idea you were coming over today…” you admitted to yourself that the wine had gone to your head, probably because you hadn’t eaten much,
“Hm… I see that,” his dark gaze wandered down your pink silk pyjamas, “you look nice.” That simple compliment was enough to make you blush, juxtaposing the strict but fair teacher you were during the day. He slithered beside you and the door frame, striding in with that confident gate he had and placed his briefcase on the counter, eyeing the wine. Shyly, you followed him, finding your abdomen drop when he turned around, his wicked smirk gone and instead a strict, straight line as he looked at you,
“Get on your hands and knees.” The command wasn’t out of nowhere, you knew he must be arriving for one thing and one thing only. A sane person, who could stand up for themselves would spit at his feet, but you weren’t sane. You were his through and through, and you loved every moment of it.
You sank to your knees, keeping his eye contact and rested your body on your palms, flat into the cold ground as you watched him turn away from you, walking towards the chair that was turned in your direction. He sat there, his legs spread, his curved groin apparent to you so much that you felt your mouth water and your throat turn to mush as he cocked his head,
“What are you waiting for, y/n?” His voice was laced with amusement and darkness, creating a deep, warm flip deep within your gut, “crawl to me.” He sat there, so proud and smug as you began to crawl to him; keeping eye contact despite the humiliation that had him sneering at you. Once you reached his knees, he leaned down, grabbing you by your face, looking deep within your soul as his free hand ducked under your top, smirking when he found you had no bra on,
“I want to have a little fun with you,” he whispered, his breath fanning your face. His voice alone made you whine. He pulled you onto his lap, your arms hanging over the chair as your belly rested painfully against his muscular legs. He teased you, painting circles with light fingertips but once he reached the waistline of your shorts, your silk shorts, his light touch diminished when he yanked them down with so much force you heard a rip. The cold air hit your ass, but it wasn’t for long before he landed a savage spank onto it, so hard you gripped the arm of the chair and yelping. He chuckled from your response and landed another one, carefully watching your reaction. He knew he had you wrapped tightly around his finger, he could make you do whatever he wanted and you would drop everything to keep him satisfied. Both of you knew your role in your dynamic and it was so beautiful to fulfill it.
“Count.” He demanded, his voice sultry as he smacked you again, harsher than before,
“One…” you croaked and he hit you again, “two…”
The moonlight shone in through this sordid moment, you strung against the lap of the man that could make you cry and scream… all in the best of ways. He hit your ass more than twenty times before his touch became softer, he rubbed the red hand marks and travelled towards your heat, where you swore you had made a mark on his thigh. He would love it. His index and middle finger found its way to your clit, he hummed as you mewled in the crook of your arm, bucking your hips upwards,
“Be patient, baby,” he cooed as his fingers began to circle around your clit, adding just enough pressure that made your eyes flicker and your jaw slackened as he painfully pressed against your clit. You moaned out as his fingers perfectly tuned you, his fingers knowing exactly what to do that made you become all his, the shiver that he sent up your spine when his hand began to work faster could not be written by the perfect author. You ground your hips into his thighs as you felt the world begin to spin, squeezing your eyes shut you submitted to his will and let go of your stress over his hand. He chuckled darkly, shoving his fingers into your mouth, curving them deeply down your throat as you lapped up your own taste. He enjoyed you tasting yourself, he groaned as he hooked your mouth, pulling you harshly upwards,
“You’ve been good to me, now show me how much you want it.” He sneered, pushing you off his lap, not hard but enough force that made you tumble. You trailed your hands up his thighs, your eyes making one spotlight over his groin and massaging it with the base of your palm before hungrily pulling down his zipper and pulling out his cock. It shocked you every time just how long he was, it was a miracle you could fit him in. You spread kitten kisses all over him before licking from the base to the tip, making his thighs shiver. He looked at you, his eyes drunken with lust as you took him whole, his cock full in your mouth; beginning to bob up and down, letting him violate you. He pulled your hair into a makeshift ponytail, gripping tightly onto you, almost controlling your eagerness. He grunted as your strong tongue licked as you sucked, giving him a wild look in his eyes, his hair slightly disheveled as his hand pulled you completely off his cock. He watched you for a moment before slapping your cheek as gentle as he could, which wasn’t that gentle at all. He smirked when the red mark appeared on your face, you loved the way he ruined you, you loved how much of a slut you were whenever he visited you. He stood up, grabbing your elbow along with his movements, dragging you towards your couch where you had been sitting just a half hour earlier in such innocence and now, in that exact space, you were being dragged back down to hell. He bent you over, your cheek pressed hard against the feathers as his cock teased your wet folds, dragging his leaking tip up and down until it pressed so beautifully against your clit. The absence of movement had you craning your neck towards him, and in that moment he had never looked more beautiful; moonlight behind him making him look like an angel fallen from grace as he undid his top button and harshly pulling his tie off his body, winding it into a ball, his eyesight caught you,
“I like your neighbours hearing what a whore you are for a man you hardly know, but I also like to see you struggle,” he shoved the material in your mouth, muffling your noises as he spread your cervix around him. You squeezed your eyes shut, breathing deeply through your nose to accommodate to his size; but he didn’t allow you that luxury as he began snapping his hips in and out of you, your eyes rolling hard to the back of your skull. His cock, thick and hard, hit that spot that had you crying out, bringing water to your eyes. He imprinted his fingers into your hips as he brought you towards him, the slapping sounds bouncing off the silent walls that became fucking classical music to you. Chewing down on the tie, you made a feral groan that did not release any of the stress that had built up within your core. His movements sped up, his hip bones hitting your ass cheeks with every animalistic move he made, your eyes and stomach went wild for him as his ground his cock deep within your stomach, reaching around to press your abdomen so the space between your bladder and cervix became almost nonexistent. You loved it when he knew how to play you so perfectly like a violin. His hand painfully pressed against you, threatening to release all over him, but both of you loved the mess you made so you relaxed allowing yourself to feel the mixture of pain and pleasure he gave to you. His hips snapped, his tip hitting your gspot, sending your head rolling back, your eyes at the back of your skull as you groaned harshly into the material.
“Let them hear you, baby,” he pulled the tie from your mouth, bucking his hips so fast you hardly had a moment to breathe and you curled your fists around the sofa as you shrieked loudly for all to hear. He chuckled mockingly before wrapping the tie around your neck and pulling harshly so your head was yanked backwards. The pressure of the material around your neck only had you begging for more, you vocalised it and he commanded your wish because his movements were so feral it had you seeing stars. You closed your eyes, feeling the drop in your stomach, the world nothing but a slight glimmer, his groans and disgustingly seductive curses blessing your ears as his movements slowed down to a painful pace, aching for more, aching to let go you pushed your ass back. With one swift thrust, he had you gushing all over him, coming undone once more as he painted your walls with his perfection. You collapsed into the sofa, curling into the foetal position as he squeezed himself behind you, his arms strong around you as you came down from your undoing,
“You were so good for me,” he whispered as his hand travelled down to your sensitive clit.

This Gundam-San short is a reference to Pythagoras Switch/Pitagora Suicchi, a Japanese educational show for small kids featuring Rube Goldberg machines spelling out "pitagora suicchi". In this video, the katakana at the end spells "Char suicchi".
(I recommend checking out Pitagora Suicchi, btw, it's very fun)

My Favourite Japanese Children's Shows
My son is 3 and I have watched a lot of Japanese children's shows with him (screen time is family time!). Here are some of my faves and why. These shows are all from NHK E-TV. Would I recommend to use these for personal study? I am using them to help teach my son Japanese, and for this it works doubly well as I learn how children's society operates in Japan and how Japanese people learn Japanese as well as social etiquette. If you don't have a child, you might get bored easily from these as they are not designed with an adult audience in mind, and you can find much better resources online. You also need a subscription to NHK somehow to watch them, which could be difficult or costly to obtain overseas. However, I like the stories and the characters, as well as the little things I learn from watching them. If you are thinking of teaching your child Japanese this might be a useful resource.
Tumblr media
いないいないばあっ! Inai inai baa! (Peek-a-boo!) This show is designed for very young children and features the beloved dog Wan Wan, played by the same actor since it first started airing in 1996. Wan Wan is accompanied by a young girl, played by various actresses in a succession over the year, and other fun characters. There is singing and make-believe and crafts, as well as short segments featuring nature (animals, plants) or short animations. It's very slow as it is made for infants and toddlers, but that makes it very cute. A group of specially selected young toddlers appears for the dances and songs. Why I Like It: The animation is fun and visually appealing, the activities are play based and you can do them at home, and you learn some new vocabulary. Age: Infants to young Toddlers Clip: DVD Advertisement
Tumblr media
おかあさんといっしょ Okaasan to issho (With Mother) This show is designed to be watched with mom (it comes on in the mornings and evenings on NHK E-TV). There are a male and female singing talent, and a male and female athletic talent, who participate in singing and acting clips. There are also a group of costumed characters that have a short story that is continued each week. It has a variety of songs, short skits, a collection of human and costumed actors, and a predictable flow that changes slightly based on the day of the week (e.g. teeth brushing days, story days, etc.). It also shows real kids doing real activities, which kids like to watch. Why I Like It: The songs are easy and catchy, the stories are easy to follow and the words are spoken clearly and precisely. Age: Infants to Toddlers/Preschoolers Clip: DVD Advertisement
Tumblr media
アンパンマン Anpanman (Anpanman) This cartoon is a long running cartoon for children (since 1988!) with an incredible line of every toy imaginable to supplement your love for the red-bean bun man (anpan = red bean bun pastry). The story lines are simple and predictable, there are a variety of "fairy" characters that are composed of different Japanese food items, plants, utensils, and animals; and in the end the villains are just really hungry. Anpanman works to help people who are in trouble or hungry (sometimes even the villains), or being bullied by the hungry villains and the story always ends well. Why I Like It: The plot is easy to follow and you can learn about Japanese food and drink specialties via the endless supply of characters, and the songs are catchy. Age: Infants to Toddlers/Preschoolers Clip: Ending TV Theme Song
Tumblr media
ピタゴラスイッチ Pitagora Suicchi (Pythagora Switch) Pythagora Switch is a 15-minute long show involving devices (Pythagora Switch) that are equivalent to the American Rube Goldberg machine and the British Heath Robinson contraption - basically, a sequence of events made from household objects that end with (usually) the words ピタゴラスイッチ being revealed. The idea is to encourage children to augment their way of thinking and to solve or understand what the machine will do before they see the movements happen. There are also other segments in which mechanisms are explained and shown visually. And usually there is rock-paper-scissors via a Pythagora Switch where you work out what the device will throw and try to beat it! The language in this show is more complicated because it is geared to a wider, older audience. Why I Like It: It helps me to think and enthralls my son with the moving parts. It's puzzle solving and sparks interest in the way the world works. Age: Toddlers to Elementary School Students Clip: 4 3 2 1 2 1 そうち

Hi scout! You once shared a few bumpers from a children’s show from Japan, where a Rube Goldberg machine ran, then spelled out the show’s title - do you remember what show it was? I loved watching those so much and have been trying to find them again. Thank you!
That show is called Pitagora Suichi, or Pythagoras Switch. I adore that show with all of my heart.
Here's the video!

McFly July Day 9: A New Puppy
Lone Pine timeline: happily married Jen and Marty version
Jennifer corralled the twins into the living room while Marty followed behind, carrying the squirming puppy in his arms. He set it down on the carpet and smiled as it romped excitedly around, back and forth between the kids.
They’d had some time to get acquainted and play for a bit before Marty decided to move them onto the next task at hand: picking a name.
“Okay,” Marty clapped his hands together to gain the attention of the four-year-olds. “What are we gonna name this little guy? Any ideas? Just shout ‘em out.”
“Marlene!”
Marty and Jennifer looked at their daughter. “Okay…um…well, that’s your name, honey,” Marty replied, wondering briefly if perhaps Marlene hadn’t understood his question. But one look at her wide, satisfied smile—as if she’d just settled the matter in one try—told him otherwise.
The girl shrugged. “So? It’s a good name.”
“Yes, it’s a very good name. But it’s just that he’s a boy dog. And besides, don’t you think it might be confusing to have a dog with the same name as you?”
Jennifer nodded her agreement. “What happens when Dad or I call out, ‘Marlene’? How will you know if we’re calling for you or the dog?”
Marlene pushed her blond bangs from her eyes. “We’ll figure it out.”
Beside him, Marty could see Jennifer stifle a laugh. This wasn’t a battle they were likely to win. He turned his attention to Junior, who had been sitting quietly, one hand stroking the dog’s soft, brown coat. “How about you, Junior? Got a name for him?”
“Um, um, uh…” Junior tapped at his chin with his free hand, face scrunched in deep thought for several seconds. “Pizza.”
Marty blinked at his son. “Pizza.”
“That’s not a name!” Marlene quipped. “That’s a food!”
With a firm look from Jennifer, Marlene quieted and settled back into her spot. The puppy tumbled from Junior’s lap, made its way over to where Marty sat, and began pulling at his shoelaces. He turned to his wife. “Any ideas, Jen?”
“No, I’m enjoying this. I want to hear more of their suggestions.”
Marlene huffed. “Okay, I have another name. Martin. It’s a boy name.”
“Yes, but it’s also mine and your brother’s name,” Marty told her, to which Marlene merely shrugged again.
“Oh! I know!” Junior jumped to his feet and bounced on his toes. “I got a name! Firetruck!”
Bickering ensued, with Marlene crossing her arms and declaring that Junior shouldn’t be allowed to come up with any more names and Junior responding by continuing to shout his recent suggestion in increasing volume before clamping his hands over his ears and switching to the “la la la, I can’t hear you” technique. The puppy ambled to the middle of the carpeted room and peed.
Amidst the chaos, Marty didn’t hear the knock at the door, though the ringing doorbell that followed got everyone settled fast. A moment later, Doc poked his head into the room, looking tentatively around. “Don’t mind me,” he said to the kids. “Please continue your shouting.”
Junior and Marlene ran to give the man their usual enthusiastic greeting, their squabbling quickly forgotten.
“Uncle Doc, we got a puppy!” Marlene took hold of Doc’s hand and pulled him further into the room.
“Yes, that’s precisely why I’m here. I wanted to meet your new addition to the family.” He knelt and offered a hand to the dog, who sniffed excitedly, tail going a mile a minute.
“You know, this is perfect timing, Doc,” Marty said. “We’re, ah, having some trouble coming up with a name. Maybe you can help?”
Doc took the wiggling pup into his arms and studied it a moment. “Looks like a Pythagoras to me.”
Marty was quiet before nodding. “Right, so we’ll keep working on it.”

Sangaku Sunday #2
As the tags in a reblog by @todayintokyo indicated, I waffled about what we'll do in this series in the first post without really defining its main object!
Sangaku are wooden tablets on display at Shintô shrines or Buddhist temples in Japan, featuring geometry problems and their solutions, usually without proof. They started appearing in the Edo period, a particular time for the Japanese people and Japanese scientists. The votive role of these tablets has been debated as far back as the Edo period, as indicated by Meijizen who wrote in 1673:
"There appears to be a trend these days, of mathematical problems on display at shrines. If they were true votive tablets (ema), they should contain a prayer of some sort. Lacking that, one wonders what they are for, other than to celebrate the mathematical genius of their authors. Their meaning eludes me."
I feel the debate on their religious role is overrated. If you look at some food offerings at shrines today, I don't think you'll find a prayer on the bottle of tea or pack of rice, as the prayer is made at the time of offering. It likely is the same for sangaku tablets, which went on display with other offerings. But, as Meijizen hinted, they did have another purpose.
Until we expand on that, below the cut is the solution of last weekend's problem.
Tumblr media
Place the point H on the line between A and C1 so that the distance between A and C1 is equal to r2. As the lines (AC1) and (BC2) are both perpendicular to the line (AB), they are parallel, and since AH=BC2=r2, HABC2 is a parallelogram with two right angles: it's a rectangle.
So the length we want, AB, is equal to HC2. The triangle HC1C2 has a right angle at the vertex H, so we can use Pythagoras's theorem:
HC1² + HC2² = C1C2²
In this equality, two lengths are known: C1C2=r1+r2, and
HC1 = AC1-AH = r1-r2 (assuming r1>r2, if not just switch the roles of r1 and r2)
Thus, HC2² = (r1+r2)²-(r1-r2)² = 4 r1 r2 after expanding both expressions (e.g. (r1+r2)² = (r1+r2)x(r1+r2) = r1² + 2 r1 r2 + r2²).
Taking the square root yields the result.

One Piece Chapter 1109 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Late on arrival but finally we're back to One Piece
The old stella is likely dead, but he's left a big broadcast behind Is he gonna spill all the tea? Let's not wait any longer
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
We're getting a Wano cover story now too, starting with Onigashima sent underwater (ok but how like it's massive!) atop Old Wano
I wonder what it'll focus on particularly? Yamato? Momo? Tama? Kaido and Big Mom statuses? Drake and Hawkins statuses?
Vegapunk's message however is a bit of a tease because of course it is
Shaka chimes in to mention how such a message will likely be blocked and intercepted, so they discuss piggybacking off of the Navy's comms
Thus, the Navy are unable to stop the transmission, as it spreads across everyone who has a Den Den Mushi
Vegapunk though also wants to provide time for people to set up the Visual snails for a picture, which'd take time for them to set up
Vegapunk gives people an hour, but Shaka advises against that since there will be those looking to censor them, so it's reduced to 10 minutes
Luffy and the crew are aware of this broadcast as well, they are curious about it though
Sanji just take a pulse and give it up
The Gorosei can still converse with Saturn all the way from Marejois!? Is it some telepathy maybe?
Saturn all but confirms that Vegapunk is dead, telling the others that Kizaru dealt a killing blow
But they are quick to realise that the message is as a result of a dead man's switch
Focus looks to turn onto the Labophase, despite being highly protected...nobody tell them that Kizaru can pass through the barrier
Pythagoras also chips in on the message for what they should do during the wait, since having a coffee may not be a good amount of time
The world is preparing for Vegapunk's message, including places we're familiar with
Dressrosa first; Kyros and Rebecca seemed to have been sparring
Leo is alive and well after his incident with Marejois, but true to the Tontatta he bought into the headlines that Luffy kidnapped Vegapunk
Foosha Village are also hearing about it, but they don't have a video screen, because iconic mayor Woop Slap don't have the money
Here's hoping they don't miss something important there, and that Makino is safe, the bar doesn't look damaged at least
The village already think this is gonna be Luffy slander anyway
At Water Seven it's late at night, so Iceberg is tired but amassing screens anyway, conducted mainly by Alice, the child assistant who is way past her own bedtime
But she does have Tyrannosaurus on her head so we'll give it a pass, she's in capable paws
Morgans also has the video up, with Vivi still worried about the crew
Morgans is quick to deduce that it's a pre-recorded message though, but expects that Egghead has already been wiped out
The other seas also prepare for Vegapunk's message, it must be kinda surreal for some of them since this is the first time they're seeing Vegapunk - plus there's 3 of them
Plus all 3 of the Vegapunks in the message are dead
The Revolutionaries also have the message, wondering what it's gonna be about
Dragon thinks back about Shaka's message though, and then continues to not do anything else
At the least there's a Sabo cameo there
Back to Luffy and he notes how Saturn and Kizaru keep coming back for more
He dodges an Eye Laser and a Poison leg, but he doesn't relinquish his hold
He's gonna keep fighting till his crew are safe
Gomu Gomu No Booming Dawn Cymbal squishes Admiral and Gorosei together
And with both flattened he continues the disrespect, spinning them like pizza dough
And then flinging them away like frisbees
Kizaru crashes into a warship, but Saturn pulls some boomerang action to come back at Luffy
Kizaru has had a headache just all day, serves him right too
Luffy avoids the poisonous buzzsaw return that Saturn poses, but the other Gorosei are intent to not let Vegapunk's message go out
Franky, Bonney, Kuma and Atlas make it to the Giants' ship, but still no word on Lucci vs Zoro, or how the Sunny intends to not crash into the barrier
Saturn agrees with his fellow Gorosei 'I shall perform the summoning'
Four cracks of black lightning strike Egghead
And now, there are Five.
Oh god oh jeez oh god oh jeez oh GOD oh jeez ALL THE GOROSEI ARE HERE.
I don't think Luffy can last a 5 on 1 of the Gorosei, Zoro stop dicking around with Lucci, Sanji you gotta drop the old man, Jinbe navigate Zoro and yourself to Luffy and someone else come for support (Robin is injured plus she would be a focus target so probably not her, Usopp? Nami? Brook? Chopper?), or maybe the Giants can back him up? Or the Sleeping Giant?
Things are heating up but now we have more situations to deal with; we can't leave the island too soon or else the Gorosei will stop the message, but if we linger then the Gorosei could do a lot of damage.
There's a break to deal with first of course, but god(a) we need some answers! And we need some things to wrap up, because we still don't have a solution for how those in the Labophase are gonna get out, also I hope Sentomaru got out, bit of a rough day for him; the man he was hired to protect died at the hands of his 'uncle', he betrayed the marines for the former and it was for naught, gotta feel bad for the guy.
We might be seeing all of the Gorosei's powers next chapter though, but it makes you wonder, if all five are here does that mean they won't be in the endgame?

20 questions for writers
Tagged by @conartisthaiji ! Thanks for the tag^^
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
32
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
116,881
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I've written mostly for Tokyo Revengers and Monster, but I've also got a couple of fics for Beyond Evil and Pluto :) the list can grow forever I guess
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
too sweet, Pythagoras, second-hand lipgloss, I've got you Covered!, and beginner's luck! This is almost all Kisaki/Takemichi lol
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Feels polite and more fun that way~
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably they were perennials? The end has a lot of grief
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Uhhh maybe hand in hand since it's about the final happy timeline of Tokyo Revengers
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No, and I'm happy that everyone has been friendly so far~
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No, that's not occurred to me yet. It would be cool, though...
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No, thank goodness
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Tough question. Maybe Sawako and Kazehaya in Kimi Ni Todoke? They have a special place in my heart<3 I don't write about them though
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I don't really have one since my ideas have never been very long or complicated yet. It's pretty much always one shots. I'd like to write a sort of second installment / part 2 to a one shot I wrote a while back, though. Let's see if I do it¯\_(ツ)_/¯
16. What are your writing strengths?
Maybe imagery? Idk
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I struggle with dialogue. Also sometimes I worry my prose is awkward
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've not thought about this a lot, but if a character switches the language they are speaking, then that makes sense. I don't know if I understand this question correctly or not..
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Pokémon! when I was in grade school. I wrote it on lined paper in a duotang and it was about Pikachu becoming a pop star haha✨
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Idk.. maybe Perfect! which lol the name sounds like I'm calling it perfect, which it isn't by far. But I had so much fun researching for that one and discussing themes with my beta reader ^^
Thanks for the tag! I'm not going to tag anyone, just consider yourself tagged if you see this✨

Here is Volume the Filmstrip Cube! I've had this model completed for sometime and originally made, rigged and textured it one bored afternoon.
He's from a series of filmstrips from the 1974 called "Beginning Metric Measurement Filmstrip". The filmstrips were produced by the American government which I guess makes Volume a federal agent? That would then mean he's the 2nd character I've modeled who is/was an agent for the American Government. (the other hasn't been revealed yet)
You can watch them here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1vMaLc8-3meGawfFkpx2SPemb8S-eWSA
I don't know if he's named anywhere. I know his computer is referred to as "The Machine" but he seems nameless. When I first modeled him I named him Epher (after UncommonEphermera) but decided to switch to Volume. He's named after his discoveries.
My headcanon is that he is an optimistic and curious cube content with discovering properties of mathematics. He is following in the footsteps of great people before him like Pythagoras and James Clerk Maxwell. He also loves the moog and listens exclusively to 70s electronic music and 78RPM records. Being a creature of the 70s he has a love for brown carpeted floors, the pre-disco era, vinyl records and the Hollywood Renaissance.
While I intend to release the model there are still things I need to do like adding IK pole targets and making his textures more 'painterly'
I can't release the model as it is since it's missing a constraint on the arms and legs (to make it more IK-like).

Pre-Socratic Philosophers
Everyone knows about Socrates, but who were all the guys before him? And what did they believe? Here's a list of some of the prominent philosophers who led up to the legendary Socrates and his successors, Plato and Aristotle.
Thales: founder of the Milesian school of philosophy, because, well, he came from Miletus. He initiated the shift away from myth and towards reason. He began the search for rationality behind the Universe, the search to pinpoint that one Thing that orders everything else. He wanted stability
Parmenides: developed Thales's idea of a one Being behind the Universe (as opposed to multiple gods as in Greek mythology), and proposed the concept of absolute monism, the idea of immutable reality. He believed that there are only reality and un-reality; something is real because it exists, and things that don't exist aren't real. Real things can't change into unreal things, and vice versa. Hence, the concept that there is only reality, and that reality is stable, unchanging -- it can't change into something unreal
Empedocles: following in Parmenides' footsteps, he maintained absolute monism, but with his own little twist. Instead of saying there is only one, immutable being that is reality, he said reality is made of four immutable elements -- earth, water, fire, and air. The interactions among these elements produce the changes we see and experience in the Universe, and these elements are influenced by Love and Strife.
Anaxagoras: believed that the Universe is made of infinite seeds; and that behind these seeds exists the ultimate immutable Being, Nous, or Mind. This Being is the force behind it all, the one thing that never changes. Therefore, he still maintained absolute monism.
Democritus: this one changed things around a bit. Instead of saying that there was just one (1) being behind the order in the Universe, Democritus said there are infinite immutable beings that make up the Universe - atoms, he called them. So here is a change from, there's a being behind the universe ordering everything, to, there are infinite beings actually composing the order in the Universe. He not only switched up absolute monism, he went so far as to point out that Parmenides was wrong in one way. He developed the idea of the Void, the existence of unreality. Nothing exists in the Void, the Void itself is not a being; yet it causes the movements and interactions of the atoms, of the Universe itself.
Pythagoras: alright, so this guy had a really big thing for math. Math was everything to him. It was the key to life, to salvation. He basically worshipped it. Pythagoras was involved in mystery religions, which makes it difficult for us to know a lot about what he taught. But he is the one who proposed the Forms, the order behind matter. He applied it mostly to...math, of course. He said that knowing the Forms (*cough* Pythagorean theorem) was the path to salvation, because knowledge aligns the self with the order of the Universe, the World Soul, as he called it. While other Ionian philosophers were becoming more and more rationalistic, rejecting the spiritual traditions of Greek myth, Pythagoras was just having a good ol' time fusing them both together.
Xenophanes: rejected most of Greek mythology as irrational and just too human. He instead proposed the idea of one God, in combination with a very rationalistic, almost pantheistic view of the world. There was one God, and that one God was the whole World.
Protagoras: leader of the Sophists, who promoted humanism, relativism, and pragmatism. He denied the supernatural and made reason the highest order. He also said that man can't really, actually know Truth, because truth is subjective. There's no absolute standard. He was a skeptic, a questioner of everything.
Heraclitus: the complete opposite of Parmenides. To him, there was no immutable reality, just constant, ever-changing flux. The whole Universe is just constantly in a state of change. However, he did believe in Logos, a sort of fiery order behind the flux.
These are just some Pre-Socratic philsosphers and their beliefs, in no particular order, really. There are many more, but I don't have the time or energy to explain them all!

Honestly though, Ghost Trick is a really good game. It's a murder mystery where the main character, Sissel (in the gif above)...dies. But he lost his memory, and tries to figure out his own murder. The game is by Shu Takumi, the same man behind the Ace Attorney game series, and it's a huge mystery, with lots of questions and plot twists, that's slowly revealed to the player. The story is packed with quirky characters, and balances very funny situations with genuinely touching moments.
The gameplay is a very fun "Pythagora switch" kind of puzzle game, where you use your poltergeist-like powers to manipulate objects in a scene to create a rube-goldberg-machine-like sequence of events to prevent someone's death.
The music is catchy and memorable, and fits the story tones and style. It's been 15 years and I still have the main theme stuck in my head.
But the thing that struck me the most when I played the game back on the Nintendo DS (and I'm a bit sad the new version changed it) was the incredibly smooth animation of the pixel art.
Like, look at this:

It's gorgeous
IIRC these animations are a mix of 3d models and pixel art, and they were something incredibly original and honestly mind blowing for me back in 2010.

Being a mystery game, I suggest you to go in as blind as possible, but if you like puzzles and/or mystery games, or if you like a good story with plot twists, drama a and a lot of genuine passion and love put into it, give Ghost Trick a try.
what obtuse series of world changing events converged to alter fate in 2011 so that ghost trick didn't spawn a tumblr sexyman
