Quick mostly comprehensive guide post for the various minecraft and minecraft-adjacent things I post about/reblog because I have some straggler followers from before I started posting minecraft (😘) who do not know what I’m on about most of the time.

SMP: stands for survival multiplayer, describes a kind of minecraft server. all of the following are SMPs even if it doesn’t say that in the title

DSMP (Dream SMP): mainly twitch based server that was started by Dream in May of 2020. There are 36 total members but the ones I post most about are tommyinnit, Dream, Wilbur soot, tubbo, Ranboo, nihachu, awesamdude, quackity, and Jack manifold. There are some posts about the creators themselves and some about the characters they play on the SMP. This one has the most plot out of any of them.

OSMP (Origins SMP): also mainly streamed on twitch, Origins is a server that was started February 11, 2021 by Tommyinnit. It has a mod called Origins which gives a themed set of powers to every player. For example people that choose to be phantoms (Wilbur Soot in this server) gain the ability to go intangible and invisible, with the downside of lighting on fire when going out in the sunlight. Players include tommyinnit, wilbur soot, sneegsnag, nihachu, ranboo, tubbo, philza, and a handful of other people.

Hermitcraft: this post explains it better than I ever could. I mostly post about grian, mumbo jumbo, and goodtimeswithscar. Sometimes pearlescentmoon, geminitay, xisuma, bdoubleo100 (aka bdubs), and other hermits. Recently season 8 ended with the moon crashing into the planet, fun stuff!

3rd/Last Life SMP: 3rd life was a hardcore minecraft server with the twist that each player started the game with 3 lives. It was started on April 20th, 2021 by Grian, and included other players such as Goodtimeswithscar, Scott Smajor, Bdoubleo100, rendog, zombiecleo, and ImpulseSV. Rules of the server were that players could not attack unless provoked or on their final aka “red” life (which made them hostile towards others), had to stay within a 700 x 700 world border, and could only play during a set session every friday to keep things fair. 3rd life ended after eight sessions on June 4th 2021. Last Life was the sequel series that added new players Mumbo Jumbo, LDShadowlady, and Pearlescentmoon, as well as players starting on a random number of lives between 2 and 6, being able to trade their lives with each other for favours or material items, and those on their red lives having all attachments from before turning red severed, resulting in no alliances between red and non-red lives.

30SMP/30 days SMP/Free Trial SMP: was a 30 day long hardcore server started in June 2021 with tommyinnit, Jack manifold, philza, sneegsnag, tubbo, slimecicle, ranboo, and Wilbur soot. I don’t post about this one anymore but if you saw a post back when this was happening, that’s what this was about.

SMPLive: was a server with creators like callmecarson, slimecicle, sneegsnag, pokay, Ted nivison, and jschlatt. I also don’t post about this one much but it has come up and it was a major part of the minecraft revival in 2019 after its start on March 1st, 2019

These next ones are not SMPs but I have reblogged clips and posts about them so here goes.

Philza: streams regularly on his single player hardcore world that has lasted about 3 years now. He’s most known for his previous 5 year long hardcore world that ended after he died to a baby zombie, as well as being on the Dream smp.

MCC (Minecraft Championship): monthly minecraft competition between various minecraft YouTubers and streamers organized by Noxcrew, which includes Scott Smajor. Notable competitors include tommyinnit, technoblade, philza, Wilbur soot, Scott smajor, ranboo, grian, and many others.

Tommyinnit’s mod videos: tommy posts videos on his channel with small groups of other people using weird mods. each video follows whatever random assortment of people tommy put together (and himself) trying to beat the game while cracking jokes along the way and fighting against or using the mod to their advantage.

And finally, group names. None of these are shipping in any way, either in canon or in my interpretation of them. Just trying to distance myself from shipping because I don’t really do shipping for any of the fandoms on this post and I want to make it clear that these names are all names the fandom has decided on to make finding joint content between these people easier, they’re platonic. These fandoms tend to make group names for any two people that even look at eachother so it is hard to keep track. the following are just the ones i actively use. (also note that these group names are used for content creators and characters interchangeably)

“bench trio” is tommy, ranboo, and tubbo

“clingy duo” is tommy and tubbo, “allium duo” is tommy and ranboo, and “bee duo” is tubbo and ranboo

“sleepy bois inc” aka “sbi” is tommy, philza, technoblade, and wilbur soot. This one is often interpreted by the fandom as a family dynamic

“desert duo” is only referring to 3rd life smp grian and goodtimeswithscar

“boatem” or “boatem inc” refers to grian, mumbo jumbo, goodtimeswithscar, impulsesv, and pearlescentmoon during hermitcraft season 8.

okay i’ll bite. what is mcyt and dream smp. like i know what they stand for but what exactly... is it.... is it actually good or just your latest hyperfixation AGSHJSJSKS

oh god beware this is long and also i technically wrote it as part of a tangent to another ask but i realized this response suited this question much better but it also makes references to that ask which i will answer right after this one

“what is minecraft youtube?” well any YouTube video that features minecraft is technically minecraft youtube. i specifically only care about like. dream + friends. i follow the ‘feral boys’ (dream george quackity sapnap karl) mostly? but if ur question is: what is dream known for? the answer is minecraft manhunt and dream smp

so what’s minecraft manhunt? to understand that, u need to understand that minecraft isn’t “just blocks” because it is a beatable game haha. u beat the game by killing the ender dragon and obviously there’s a lot of stuff u need to do to do that. but i won’t bore u w the details. “speedrunning minecraft” means u beat minecraft very fast. dream used to be the record holder for beating minecraft a few months ago. he no longer is but i won’t get into that. it’s an annoying discussion n literally no one cares. all i’ll say is if u really believe he cheated and that he wasn’t being targeted by people who have since been exposed for trying to frame him for saying slurs that he never said (amongst other stuff), then u literally hate neurodivergent people so much. that’s all!

so what is MANHUNT, specifically? basically, dream does a series where x number of people are HUNTING him down and trying to KILL him before he beats the game. if he dies even ONCE, he loses. he’s done this with one hunter (george), two (+sapnap), three (+badboyhalo), four (+antfrost), and now five hunters (+awesamdude)

the hunters have infinite lives, and a compass that leads them to where dream is at any given point in the game. dream is allowed to kill them as many times as he wants, as a form of self preservation

so what’s the allure to manhunt? essentially, it’s how dream plays the game. he’s incredibly skilled at pvp (fighting) and parkour (moving fast and agile that i can’t even begin to explain. u need to see this for urself. it’s even more impressive if u play the game) and “clutching” (how he saves himself from risky moves and all the absolutely CREATIVE ways he does it)

also all the traps he sets to kill the hunters since it’s hard to go up against multiple people no matter how good you are. and how QUICKLY he thinks. it’s amazing. people with adhd are amazing and dream is a PRIME example of that. it makes me less hateful of my adhd :) and more appreciative of my traits :)

how did he do this? lots of research, lots of practice, lots of training. dream used to be a really average minecraft player who had to beg GEORGE to go easy on him. now? george loses to dream even on 40/50 hearts (the usual is 10). dream poured his heart into making his videos, putting a creative spin and skillful spin to his content that had never really been seen/executed as well before. and so 1.5 years after he started actively making YouTube videos he has over 20 million subscribers. and I’m not kidding, that number could be 30 million in a few months from now. that’s how fast he’s growing

ok i got off topic. another great thing about manhunt is dream’s relationship w the HUNTERS. the hunters are friends who dream has known for many years, and also they come up with great plans to defeat him as well. in many ways, they can also be seen as the “underdogs” in manhunt, especially since dream won the 4 hunters series 3-2. anyway in manhunt, all of the players are in an open channel discord voice chat, so they can all hear each other talk, and also talk to each other. sometimes the hunters discuss strategies before the face off, or they dm ideas secretly in the game chat, or attempt to talk in code. but mostly dream can hear the things they say, and they can hear the things he says. it makes it so that they can attempt to trick each other, but they can also hear things that give them a leg up in the game. etc etc. the banter that goes on is like. BIG part of what makes manhunt fun to watch

and the editing...... it is very good and engaging n he chooses fun music :) the speedrun music is a meme by now but it still slaps unironically. he makes excellent choices n i am very entertained

OKAY. so what is dream smp?

(smp stands for Survival Multiplayer. aka: a lot of people play together in a world where u can die and monsters spawn. the dream part is because dream owns the server)

once upon a time, there were two best friends. their names were dream and george. they decided to play minecraft survival together, but they didn’t want to beat the game super fast this time. THIS was about having fun. they wanted to casually explore the world, build a house together, raise some animals, start a farm, etc! after a bit they started to add some of their other friends so more people could have fun with them. and then more people got added. and the dream smp started to include a roleplay aspect because they invited people who did roleplay on other servers

i won’t summarize the events for u. if u wanna know what HAPPENED plot wise, this dude evanmcgaming makes like. summaries that are low key documentaries. very well made, he includes clips from the actual lore streams when necessary! his channel is here and i’ll list the documentaries in order: first | second | third | fourth | fifth

and then this really cool 18 year old Filipino girl started animating events on the dream smp to look REALLY cool n it got so many views and her first animation was done on her PHONE w her FINGER and it made the people on dream smp go damn we need to step the FUCK up so that this girl can get better material for her animations. they are all huge fans of her. everyone is a huge fan of her. she’s called sad-ist, and so far there are 4 main animations: first | second | third | fourth

anyway now! dream smp is essentially what i would call gay planned theatre improv but the medium through which they perform is not a stage but on minecraft. there actually is WRITING involved in this, they script the series of events etc, but for the most part they don’t actively script dialogue afaik?

some truly AMAZING bits of dialogue has come out of the dream smp. the dream smp is basically. gamers transform into theatre kids before ur very eyes + some of these bitches WERE theatre kids and they’re showing it now!

it’s amazing watching the growth because a lot of them have improved leaps and bounds. one of the most notable improved actors is dream ❤️ yea im bringing him up ok because im RIGHT his acting used to just be him screaming but now he can give me chills. he’s very good n is the “main villain” on dream smp :)

and like. not only do we have people like sad-ist animating the smp we have members like quackity who include pre recorded elements in his lore streams to make it just. a truly incredible experience. quackity my beloved. i love him so much

i put this in the reblogs of the post but it doesnt show up in tags so im making my own post!! here is everything i know about the history of the dream smp!

if you have corrections to make, feel free to put them in the notes! i’m open to corrections!

Started in April 2020, the Dream SMP (survival multiplayer) server has risen fast through the ranks of the Minecraft community. It started with popular creator Dream, who at one time held the world record for beating Minecraft the fastest, as well as his friends, GeorgeNotFound, Sapnap, BadBoyHalo, and Callahan. As time went on, Dream decided he would use the server’s popularity to bring attention to smaller creators, and invited 16-year-old TommyInnit onto the server, as well as his friends Tubbo_, Punz, TheEret, Purpled, Wilbur Soot, JSchlatt, ItsFundy and BadBoyHalo’s friend Skeppy. More people joined during events to come, such as Wilbur’s friend Nihachu, Alyssa, Ponk, JackManifoldTV (known at the time as Thunder1408), Quackity, Karl Jacobs, and Hbomb94.

Once Wilbur Soot joined, he began to create a plot for the server. Wilbur Soot, TommyInnit, Tubbo_, TheEret, and ItsFundy created a new nation, called L’Manburg(it is widely debated by fans whether the spelling is L’Manburg or L’Manberg, but for the purposes of this piece it will be spelled L’Manburg). During the war against Dream for L’Manburg’s independence, TheEret turned traitor towards L’Manburg in exchange for a place on the throne, and thus they were dubbed King Eret. L’Manburg won the war, however, and they began to establish their land.

A few months later, L’Manburg held an election in order for the acting president, Wilbur Soot, and his right hand man, TommyInnit, to consolidate power. They named their election party POG2020 (after a popular Twitch emote). The opposing party was called Schlatt2020, run by JSchlatt, who had no running mate. A few other parties entered as well, Coconut2020 (headed by Nihachu and ItsFundy), and SWAG2020 (headed by GeorgeNotFound and Quackity). Dream endorsed JSchlatt on election night, which prompted the people following that party to turn on POG2020 and Quackity, chasing them both away from the country that they built. Quackity was caught during the chase, which he decided to give up the fight and join JSchlatt as his running mate, creating the campaign SchWAG2020. The fans got to vote through a poll link set up by the creators, but it was later found out that Coconut2020 had commited voter fraud, and thus were disqualified from the election. SchWAG2020 won, and JSchlatt was now the president of L’Manburg.

Under the leadership of SchWAG2020, L’Manburg was rebranded to Manburg, and TommyInnit and Wilbur Soot were exiled from their country. JSchlatt planned to remove what was left of the old L’Manburg, and ItsFundy set the flag ablaze. TommyInnit and Wilbur Soot planned a rebellion, and brought their friend Technoblade(a YouTuber who was known for his expertise at Minecraft fighting) onto the server to help. Tubbo_ joined JSchlatt, and they prepared for what would later be called The Red Festival. Tubbo_ decorated Manburg with blocks and the new flag. During the festival, JSchlatt made his speech, and he exposed Tubbo as a traitor and trapped him in a box. JSchlatt had managed to pressure Technoblade (notorious for his social anxiety) into helping him, so Technoblade used a crossbow outfitted with a firework and blew up Tubbo_. Then he turned on the audience and launched fireworks at them as well, blowing up most of them. They were able to respawn, but they had all lost canon lives (implemented by Wilbur Soot, canon lives are a way to make sure there is consequences for dying in-game).

After the festival, a lot of JSclatt’s supporters turned on him and joined the rebellion headed by Wilbur Soot and TommyInnit, named Pogtopia after their failed campaign plan, POG2020. They began to fight back. Dream granted Wilbur Soot’s request for explosives, which he hid underneath L’manburg and connected to a single button, planning to explode the country if things didn’t go well. Technoblade let the Pogtopians into his secret vault, giving them gear and weapons for the upcoming battle.

On the day of the battle, November 16th, Technoblade lead them all into battle, taking down the remaining Manburgians easily. Finally, they found JSchlatt (acting) drunk in the Camarvan, cornering him with their weapons. JSchlatt was hardly coherent, but he made a prediction, saying, “Y’know, if I die, this country goes down with me.” He then died of a heart attack, and losing his last canon life. He now hardly comes online, and when he does it is often non-canonical.

Once JSchlatt died, Manburg was restored to L’Manburg, and Tubbo_ became president. Technoblade, who thought they were just razing Manburg and who had only joined the attack force to bring anarchy to the server, got upset that they were “replacing one tyrant with another.” He began to attack the players, telling them that history was repeating itself. In all the commotion, nobody noticed that Wilbur Soot was missing. He was down in the Button Room, trying to decide whether or not to press the button. He said, “The thing that I built this nation for doesn’t exist anymore! It’s over.” Before he could hit the button, Ph1lza (widely referred to as TommyInnit, Technoblade, and Wilbur Soot’s father figure) joined the game, standing behind him. Wilbur explained that he had been down in the room many times, wondering if he should press the button. After much debate with Ph1lza, he said “It was never meant to be.” (a line that TheEret said when they betrayed L’Manburg in the revolution), and Wilbur Soot pressed the button. The explosion rippled through the country, reducing everything to a crater. When the smoke cleared, Wilbur begged for Ph1lza to kill him, he didn’t want to live with the knowledge of what he had done. Ph1lza did, and Wilbur Soot lost his last canon life.

With Tubbo_ as president, L’manburg was being rebuilt, adapting to the crater that they lived in. Technoblade was banned from entering L’Manburg, so he moved to the mountains and built himself a little house, telling everyone he was entering retirement(the house in the snowy mountains might be a callback to a different server that Technoblade participated in with Ph1lza, SMPEarth, where they took over the Antarctic). Wilbur Soot came back as a ghost, retaining only good memories from his time as Wilbur, and was now named Ghostbur.

Then TommyInnit was exiled from L’Manburg. His best friend Tubbo_ exiled him, because Dream convinced Tubbo_ was a threat to the nation. TommyInnit ran away, and Ghostbur built him a tent called Logsteadshire, where Dream came to visit him often. Dream was a very manipulative friend, not allowing anyone to come see TommyInnit, not letting TommyInnit leave Logsteadshire, and whenever TommyInnit got something that may pose a threat to Dream (weapons, armor, potions, etc.), Dream would throw it in a pit and explode it with TNT. TommyInnit began to show signs of depression, as well as suicidal tendencies, as he was on his last canon life(he was acting, but they portrayed these mental illnesses very well, better than Hollywood). He would consider jumping into lava, or he would build very high and stay there for a while, considering it. One day Ghostbur brought him a compass, named “Your Tubbo”, that pointed towards where Tubbo was at all times. He also brought a second one to Tubbo_, named “Your Tommy”, that pointed to TommyInnit at all times. However, they never were in contact with each other. At one point, TommyInnit hosted a party, giving invitations to Dream to take to everyone on the server. Only Dream showed up, and TommyInnit was convinced that the rest all hated him now(Later, Ph1lza, Technoblade, Tubbo_, and Ranboo [the newest member of the server] confirm to TommyInnit that they didn’t get their invitations and thought it would be rude to crash the party). During this, Dream was also working on a huge prison, outfitted with redstone contraptions and effects so secure that nobody could possibly get in or out without the Warden’s permission (Awesamdude was one of the builders and also the Warden).

Finally, TommyInnit realizes Dream is manipulating him, and runs away from Logsteadshire, finding Technoblade’s house in the snow and digging under it, hiding there and stealing some of Technoblade’s items(This earned him the name RaccoonInnit from the fanbase). Technoblade eventually finds him, but instead of kicking him out, he takes TommyInnit under his wing and gives him items to help him. Ph1lza had been visiting Technoblade, but since Ph1lza was a citizen of L’Manburg, he was put under house arrest for consorting with a traitor. Technoblade wanted to destroy L’Manburg, and TommyInnit was on his side. They began to prepare, Technoblade gathering hundreds of Wither Skulls to build his monsters. Dream came by twice, looking for TommyInnit. Both times, Technoblade managed to hide TommyInnit, until Dream left. They snuck into L’Manburg many times, Technoblade creating an army of dogs that he would be able to fight with. They also touch on TommyInnit’s(acting) trauma, because while they were sneaking around L’Manburg, they came across the place where TheEret betrayed them. Technoblade handled it well, and calmed him down enough to get him out(again showing the great way these people portray their characters and the things that happen to them). Ph1lza is released from house arrest as a Christmas present from Tubbo_, and he immediately leaves to go live with TommyInnit and Technoblade in Technoblade’s house.

One day, Technoblade and TommyInnit sneak into L’Manburg, and they see a huge gathering of people, around the ruins of the oldest building on the server, the community house. Dream is angry, saying that TommyInnit must have blown up the community house as revenge for being exiled from L’Manburg. Technoblade asks TommyInnit if he had, because they had joked about it in the prior stream, but TommyInnit says no. Then Dream tells Tubbo_ to give him the disc, the one thing TommyInnit has always cared about, since he joined the server. TommyInnit bursts into the center of the circle, and he and Tubbo_ begin to fight. Technoblade joins the crowd, raising his blade just in case he and TommyInnit have to fight the other 30 players on their own. When TommyInnit and Tubbo_ stop fighting, TommyInnit joins L’Manburg again, prompting Technoblade to get angry that TommyInnit betrayed him in favor of the country that exiled him. Tubbo_ hands the disc to Dream, who stows it away and then begins to berate Tubbo_, calling him the worst president that L’Manburg has ever had, saying “You’ve just given me the one thing I needed to destroy L’Manburg!” At that, Technoblade perks up, because now Dream’s goal aligns with his. Dream leaves the group and Technoblade is left to fend for himself in a mob of people that want him dead. He barely manages to escape, but he makes it back to his house and Ph1lza. Dream comes by and Technoblade shows him the vault of war supplies and Wither Skulls he had been preparing. They make plans to blow up L’Manburg the following day. TommyInnit and Tubbo_, however, are no longer fighting, resolving to work together to try and protect their country.

The next day, Dream and Technoblade begin streaming an hour early, as Dream says that he wants them to have no chance of fighting back. Technoblade, Ph1lza, and Dream all bring their supplies (TNT, potions, totems of undying, weapons, etc.) and begin their attack half an hour early. They sic Technoblade’s wolves on the citizens, and Ph1lza begins to spawn in Withers. Dream drops stacks of TNT on the land from a contraption he had set up off camera. Through the battle, at the very most, only a few canon lives were lost, and nobody died permanently, except for Ghostbur’s sheep, Friend. Ghostbur is angry that everything he cared about died, and he asks for Ph1lza to resurrect him into Alivebur. Ph1lza agrees, but tells his son’s spirit that it’ll take a few days. TommyInnit and Tubbo_ begin a new country, dubbed “Snowchester”, where there is no ruler for Dream to manipulate or for Technoblade to destroy. Ph1lza finds Ranboo in his “panic room”, and leads him to Technoblade’s and Ph1lza’s house, offering him a place to stay. Ph1lza couldn’t save Wilbur. Maybe he can save Ranboo.

Dream and TommyInnit meet one last time for a “talk”. TommyInnit knows that he and Tubbo_ are on their last canon lives. They meet in a place where Dream kept everything he took from everybody, all the strings that controlled the players. Dream asks for TommyInnit’s last “string”, the last thing TommyInnit cares about: Tubbo_. Tubbo_ agrees, saying goodbye to TommyInnit and walking towards Dream’s gleaming sword. Then Punz comes through the Nether portal, into the room. Dream had paid Punz to spy on L’Manburg, but when Dream asks what Punz is doing there, he says, “Sorry, Dream. But you should have paid me more.” The rest of the server, all the people TommyInnit thought had forsaken him or abandoned him, come through the Nether portal, gathering behind Punz. TommyInnit wastes no time in making Tubbo_ follow him, and they both hide behind the army. They all force Dream to give up his armor, making him put it in the pit (mirroring Dream’s manipulation tactics when TommyInnit was in exile), and Dream is put in the prison he and Awesamdude built.

With the fall of L’Manburg and the arrest of Dream, the secondary plot of the SMP comes to light. Ever since Skeppy joined, BadBoyHalo, along with the rest of the Badlands (Skeppy, BadBoyHalo, Antfrost, and Awesamdude), have had their own side story. A massive egg grew around Skeppy, and in order for BadBoyHalo to get him back, he had to be possessed by the egg. Antfrost and Skeppy also got possessed, but Awesamdude wasn’t around the egg as much as they were, since he was working on the prison with Dream. BadBoyHalo became the egg’s spokesperson, and planted a seed of it in the crater of L’Manburg. Now the egg is slowly taking over the land.

There’s so much more going on at the moment, like Nihachu and Jack Manifold’s Looney Tunes-esque shenanigans to try and assassinate TommyInnit, Tubbo_’s nuclear weapons, TommyInnit and Awesamdude playing discount Animal Crossing, Ranboo’s memory issues and enderman powers, the syndicate that Technoblade and Ph1lza are making to stop any more governments from forming, and like 17 other things I can’t even remember!

In conclusion, watch the Dream SMP, I can answer questions that this didn’t cover, you’ll lose a piece of your soul to these minecraft men.

side note: i didnt mention it in the fucking BOOK i just wrote you but the family canon? the relationships?? absolutely cursed.

Ph1lza fathered Wilbur and TommyInnit (he may have been disowned. this is still unclear.) Wilbur’s mother was a Samsung Smart fridge. Tommy’s mother is unknown. Technoblade is apparently Ph1lza’s work friend who basically big-brothers TommyInnit and sometimes Wilbur (found family ftw).

Wilbur fathered ItsFundy (canonically ftm trans) by,,,,,fucking a salmon. Her name was Sally. This does not explain why ItsFundy is canonically a fox.

ItsFundy dated Dream for a while. They were going to get married until GeorgeNotFound burst in and stole Dream away. ItsFundy insists that the wedding was canon. Dream insists it was not. Schroedingers Wedding. (also ItsFundy asked a spider to rail him once so i guess fucking random things runs in the family).

Nihachu and CaptainPuffy are dating. They are the least cursed on this list. thank you ladies, <3

BadBoyHalo has made his relationship with Skeppy canon despite Skeppy NEVER playing. They are soulmates btw, their canon lives are linked :)

CaptainPuffy adopted Dream and called him her “little duckling”

Dsmp stands for Dream Survival Multi-Player its a survival multiplayer minecraft server run by Dream, a youtuber known for his amazing skill at minecraft and its different elements, like goofy game mechanics, beating other players in pvp, and minigames, general good at games kinda dude

Dream has been exposed multiple times for being racist and albiest but keeps getting forgiven cause white neurodivergent people keep accepting his apologies or refusing to look at him with critical eyes. Yeah he has “apologized” but after tweets and tweets and tweets of him defending his shithole ideas for a week and a half until he realized it was easier to pretend to give a fuck

The server itself has mostly just been a large group of popular streamers and youtubers playing on the one server together and on occasion, staging a story based event with slightly planned out story beats and character arcs. One of these events include L’manburg, a “country” within the dream smp that wanted to succeed from dream’s rule, which was later destroyed by its original creator (way later after a bunch of other things), all for the lore and angst and such.

If I had to describe the dream smp story, I would say imagine you took the improv and character direction from HLVRAI, and the minecraft and bad writing from aphmau roleplays, thats dream smp (hopefully youve heard or seen hlvrai or aphmau lol) (this basically means that about 80% of all the “character” acting is just themselves, but the characters are still fake, like how if you and your friend faked an argument, thats how you would really act if you two were angry at each other, but you are pretending to be angry sorta thing, and aphmau stories were just meant for 12-15 year olds so i can’t totally fault her stories for not having the depth of an industry tv show or something)

The server is also notorious for including fucking weirdos like Schlatt, a man known for being bravely a racist, ableist, and homophobic fucking creep, one of callmecarson’s former closest friends, whose entire character on the smp was still being albeist and homophobic, but also a generally abusive alcoholic asshole to anyone near him.

Not to mention every person on the server is in love with calling any guy being affectionate with one another “sus” like its the early 2000s and homophobia is the funniest thing in the world, it just reeks of them wanting to say fag. And personally I think several of the cishet players playing gay and trans characters is fine, its just weird with how openly fucking homophobic they can be otherwise

It also just feels like no one is taking into account how often the adults of the servers act super fucking mean and creepy to the few minors on the server, being Tubbo, TommyInnit, and Ranboo, their adult friends have made way too many sex jokes around or about them, or just openly ridicule them with no hint of sarcasm.

And not to mention, none of the bigger sides of the streamers, like dream and his main group do nothing to actually help or talk about the communities they always say “___ rights!” for, it all feels really hollow for one of them to get a 5 dollar donation just to say it, and then that money just goes to them buying a fucking house instead of to a single organization or petition of that cause.

Honestly I watch dream smp from tommy, ranboo, and tubbo’s pov on occasion still cause the story lines including them and them alone actually seem kind of fun and cute but other creators like Wilbur, dream, quackity, techno, all of them seem either creepy or just not good people except for the camera

I know this is super rambly but this is what i have to say about it, i like SOME of the dream smp, and you arent a shit head for liking it, i just think you should stop being so fucking uwu about some dickhead strangers who dont actually care about you

Dream SMP: Using Minecraft as a Vessel for a Storyline

With viewers worldwide, members of a popular Minecraft server known as the Dream SMP have drawn in viewers through their original roleplay content, using Minecraft as a vessel to tell a story and have fun with each other outside of the plot line. Over the past couple of months, members have broken some of the highest viewer counts on the live streaming platform Twitch, with long time member TommyInnit having a record high live viewer count of 650,237 and other long-time Dream SMP member, Tubbo, with 332,671.

THE ORIGIN OF THE SMP

The Dream SMP is a private and whitelist survival multiplayer (SMP) server in the game Minecraft created by the content creator known as Dream. The server’s beginning was streamed on Twitch April 24, 2020 and featured members of the group known as the Dream Team composed of content creators Dream, GeorgeNotFound, Sapnap, and BadBoyHalo. At the time the server originated, all members (producing content and not just friends of the cast) were at or less than 1 million subscribers on Youtube. According to Youtube, 1 million is a great milestone: “We’re honored to celebrate them when they reach Creator Award subscriber milestones,'' 1 million being one of those milestones. Its initial rise to popularity, however, began around July and August of 2020, when seventeen-year-old Minecraft livestreamer from the UK, Tommy “TommyInnit”, joined the SMP and began a series of arguments and banter with other members of the SMP. It would also ignite what is known as the Disc Saga: music discs acquired by Tommy that he and Dream would continue to fight about until January of the next year. TommyInnit didn’t just bring bickering, though, he also brought along many more members that would later become some of the most statistically large names of the SMP and the Minecraft community in general: Tubbo and Wilbur Soot. Wilbur Soot, particularly, played a critical role in the growth of the SMP.

BEGINNING OF THE STORYLINE

Originally, nobody had planned on the SMP becoming what it is today: whether that is from a high viewership perspective or how unexpected the creation of a plot line was. As far as plot, it was Wilbur “Soot” Gold that created it. He tells in an Insider interview that “I was invited into the Dream SMP near its inception but I only joined fully when I had an idea for building a country in Minecraft”. In the SMP’s infancy, Soot began creating an “illegal potion shop” that would spin off into a nation of non-American members called L’Manberg. He further tells Insider how he writes for the SMP, saying “I write up a series of plot hooks and points that should tie together, however we improv dialogue and comedy throughout to take us from point to point”. As Soot mentioned, these streams and videos that take place aren’t simply the players getting in-game achievements; the lore functions as would a television show, with some episodes holding more relevant pieces of plot and some just being the in-between pieces to help the plot develop. Another early member, Fundy, mentioned that the server went from “a casual survival game to a whole story-line filled with plots and twists,” and that “role-playing is a key feature of the Dream SMP, some parts are scripted, some parts are improv, and some parts are ‘non-canon’, where it is just counted as a standard Minecraft server”. The unique nature of the Dream SMP makes it viewable for people who may not be as invested in the lore as others. Additionally, moderator of the popular “DREAMSMP UPDATES!” account on Twitter with over 205,000 followers, NotAlex, told Insider “The Dream SMP did something really special--taking an original idea, creating new things that have never been seen on Minecraft and incorporating them with humor and characters that you can become easily attached with”. This statement is backed up by Youtube statistics: little over a year ago Dream had 1 million subscribers and currently has over 21 million Youtube subscribers, boasting over 1.8 billion views on his main channel. The numbers speak for themselves, and this is what people appear to like. In addition, there have been other SMP roleplay servers such as SMPLive or SMPEarth, but none of them have pertained to as large of a demographic as the Dream SMP has.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE PLOT?

The SMP can be mapped into two different sections: Before Tommy, which was non lore-based streaming, and After Tommy, where he started an initial piece of lore and his friend Wilbur Soot created a storyline that would play off of that. The depths of the SMP can be broken down into many different smaller sections with different character analysis and connecting different plot points to each other, however here are is the most basic ideas of the plot:

1.Disc Saga: Tommy obtains music discs that become his prized possessions. Dream picks on Tommy and tries to steal them so he can have power over him. Tommy recruits his friend Tubbo to help him retrieve them. Ultimately, the Disc Saga ends January 2021 after Tommy and Tubbo retrieve them and send Dream to prison.

2. L’Manberg War: TommyInnit and Wilbur Soot create a new country entitled L’Manberg in hopes to create something “better” than the world of the basic Dream SMP. Upset with this, Dream declares war on the few members of L’Manberg against his own forces. L’Manberg seems to be winning and their ally, Eret, brings them to a final control room where it seems as if they were to get powerful gear to fight against Dream. However, Eret instead reveals to be a traitor and all members of L’Manberg lose one of their three lives. Here, the infamous phrase of the SMP is coined by Eret: “It was never meant to be'' and L’Manberg is blown up for the first time. It is also here where Dream and Tommy have a duel to decide the fate of L’Manberg’s independence. Dream wins, however Tommy gives his discs to Dream in order to give L’Manberg independence.

3. L’Manberg Election and Electoral Fallout: Wilbur Soot and Tommy run as President and Vice President of L’Manberg under the name POG2020 in order to show their citizens that it functions like a democracy. They have two main opposing sides: SWAG 2020, Quackity and GeorgeNotFound, and SCHLATT 2020, JSchlatt, who pool their votes together. The creators of L’Manberg, POG 2020, won the majority of votes, but because SWAG and SCHLATT pooled their votes, SWAG/SCHLATT 2020 won the election. As the new president of L’Manberg, Schlatt revokes the citizenship of Wilbur Soot and Tommy and they are forced into exile where they begin to work with long time Minecraft player Technoblade in an underground commune known as “Pogtopia''.

4. Manberg/Pogtopia War: Schlatt renames L’Manberg to “Manberg'' and it begins to function similarly to a dictatorship. Wilbur is driven to insanity as he cannot stand his beloved country falling into the hands of someone else. Throughout this time period, many members of Manberg escape to join forces with Pogtopia. In a final Pogtopia conflict, the forces of Manberg and Pogtopia clash and Pogtopia takes the victory. They reclaim the land and Tubbo becomes the President. Everything seems to be going fine, however, Wilbur leaves the celebration and enters a small secret room that is presumably connected to 736 pieces of TNT under L’Manberg. Just as Wilbur is about to turn his back on his allies, his father finds him and asks “what are you doing”. Wilbur explains “the thing that I built this nation for doesn’t exist anymore... it’s over”. He repeats the infamous saying that happened before L’Manberg was blown up once before and reveals himself to be the traitor of his own nation: “It was never meant to be”. Destruction occurs and Wilbur forces his father to kill him. This is Wilbur’s last death.

5. Exile Conflict: After the war, citizens begin repairing the damages of the nation. Meanwhile, Tommy and, at the time, new member Ranboo set GeorgeNotFound’s house to flames. Tommy takes the fall for this as Dream pressures for Tubbo to exile Tommy, his best friend, as punishment. Ultimately it is decided that Tommy will be exiled, alone. Dream visits Tommy a lot during exile to manipulate him into thinking they were friends. Later, Dream blows up Tommy's exile home and Tommy runs away to live with Technoblade and tries to restore the allyship they once had. They stick together until Tommy and Tubbo forgive each other and Tommy leaves Techno. Tubbo accepts Tommy back into L’Manberg and at this point, Dream has both of Tommy’s prized discs.

6. End of the Disc Saga: Dream leaves Tommy a compass and tells him that only he and Tubbo are allowed to meet him where the compass leads, otherwise the discs will be gone forever. They meet up and Dream brings them to his lair where he shows his plans to collect prized possessions from every member of the SMP so he has control over them. Dream threatens that Tommy can choose between the discs or Tubbo’s last canon life. Tubbo tells Tommy to choose the discs as he says that Dream “described me as a pawn, and this is checkmate”. However, Punz, a merchant that Tommy paid in hopes to make amends, arrived with the rest of the SMP to Dream’s lair. They all discover the truth about how Dream wants to have blackmail on them all. Tommy takes 2 of Dream’s canon lives, all of his belongings, and sends him to an inescapable prison. Tommy secures the discs and the disc saga ends as Tommy and Tubbo listen to the discs at their favorite location.

7. Prison Arc*: Tommy has visited Dream in prison several times, but went to say goodbye to Dream for the last time before starting a new chapter in his life. However, while Tommy is inside, TNT goes off somewhere around the prison and it is forced into lockdown. Based on a contract Tommy signed, he had to stay in the prison until the guard figures out what happened. While they were trapped, Dream taunts him in a playful manner, but Tommy is still shaken about it as the prison reminds him of several traumatic moments that happened in his past (the L’Manberg final control room and exile). Tommy is told of a resurrection book that Dream supposedly has. Tommy is skeptical and lashes out on Dream questioning him on why Tommy should believe. Dream beats Tommy’s body and Tommy dies. His closest colleagues are told of his death and many blame themselves. Days later, Tommy is resurrected from Dream in the prison, however, nobody knows that he got resurrected. Dream and Tommy discover that 1 day on the SMP is 1 month in the afterlife, meaning Wilbur has been in the afterlife for 9 years also meaning that Wilbur is the most informed person on the SMP. Dream plots to bring Wilbur back to life as he thinks that he will get Wilbur to break him out of prison.

8. Blood Vines*: Mysterious red vines have covered the SMP and emerge from what they call the “Egg”. Member known as BadBoyHalo becomes closest with the vines as he can hear them talking to him. He tells many people that “the egg demands blood” and tries to get members to join the Egg’s side, yet many refuse.

WHERE IT IS HEADED

It doesn’t seem like any of the fans are going anywhere, especially considering SMP members continuously reach the top spots on Youtube’s trending page. The Minecraft community in general has begun to flourish during the COVID-19 quarantine, as it has brought back older players that need something to do while stuck inside as well as the new generation of kids consuming this type of entertainment. It is safe to say that the Dream SMP storyline will continue to captivate viewers through its original use of Minecraft at least until the plot ultimately ends. DSMP (DreamSMP/DTeamSMP)

A political roleplay SMP (Survival Multiplayer) that mostly focuses on the ongoing of a country called L’manburg/Manburg/Pogtopia. Badlands, The SMP, Manifold Land, and (i think) Mexico are all also countries on the SMP.

We’re currently on Season 2, in which the main focus seems to be on Tommy and Tubbo’s failing friendship and how it’s affecting the country. But idk i haven’t gotten the chance to watch any S2 streams yet qwq.

My favorite CCs (content creators) on the SMP are:

You should also choose a CC to stick with throughout most of the notable events (I’m usually in Wilbur’s chat but since he’s dead now I’ll prolly stick with either Tommy or Fundy since Connor isn’t big on RP, though Ranboo might be a good choice, especially for a beginner).

For mostly just good vibes I’d reccomend Eret or Nikki. Connor doesn’t take part in the wars much but his chat has a whole different culture and is (jokingly) hostile to newbies to Twitch and his streams.

Another benefit is the goldmine of LGBTQ relationships and characters. Fundy, Sapnap, Karl, Quackity and Dream’s characters are all canonically MLM, Fundy and Dream are engaged and Sapnap, Karl, and Quackity are in a polycule :). Eret, Niki, Karl and CaptainPuffy are all queer IRL. Eret is bi, Nikki is bi, I’m not totally sure about Puffy but I know she’s into girls at least, and Karl is somewhere on the aspec. Puffy and Niki’s chara’s are dating :). OH and Fundy’s chara is conontically FTM trans :D

Wilbur, Techno, Phil, & Tommy are the official members, but Tubbo, Smajor, Nikki, Fundy, and a few others are often shoehorned in with them.

Mostly you’ll find SBI&A members together during MCC and Among Us streams, and those that are on the SMP will interact there. They’re all really fun :)

Dream Team (and the Muffinteers/Munchy)

Dream, Sapnap, GeorgeNotFound are the DTeam, BBH and Antfrost are part of the Muffinteers and Callahan, Ponk, Punz, and VelvetisCake are part of a group I like to call Munchy, despite the fact that only Callahan (from what I remember) is staff on Munchy.MC (Bad’s server). Mostly chill content but the DTeam’s twitch chat (and streams) are absolute garbage. Don’t watch it’s really bad.

Alright I’m losing my mind how do u feel about infodumping this new thing you’re watching bc ily and want to know what you’re talking about XD

Oh boy oh boy anon, have you opened the flood gates. *cracks knuckles* I’m always down to info dump. (gets kind long so i’m putting a cut in)

The Dream SMP is a Minecraft multiplayer server owned by Dream, and most of the stuff happens over on live streams on twitch. Some content creators post highlight videos on their youtube channels, which was how I started, but it doesn’t quite fully catch the whole story and nuances (that being said I’d recommend TommyInnit, Wilbur Soot or Technoblade as a good place to get started, they all have youtube playlists on their channels)

The server starts off like a normal survival server, but then TommyInnit joins and starts stirring up trouble. This sparks off the disc war (fighting over Tommy’s most prized possessions on the server (keep that in mind) a couple of discs he’s managed to get (Cat and Mellohi most importantly)) and the pet war (Between Tommy and Sapnap, involving a lot of animal deaths, including Tommy’s cow Henry). I’m a little unclear on the early days of the server, cos I’ve only seen a few youtube highlights, but that’s the gist of it.

Then Wilbur Soot joins the server. With Tommy, Tommy’s friend Tubbo, Eret and Fundy (who is Wilbur’s son and also a fox in lore), they create a new country of L’manburg, declaring independence from the rest of the server. Dream, the owner of the server, doesn’t like this idea and it sparks the first war - the battle for independence. After fighting, a betrayal which still hangs over the heads of everyone even now, and a whole lot of tnt, Tommy challenges Dream to a 1v1 duel for independence. He loses, but sacrifices both his prized discs to Dream, securing L’manberg’s independence.

There’s a time of peace, other characters like Niki join L’manburg and then Wilbur announces an election because he wasn’t democratically elected and wanted to secure that power. They tell Quackity - another member of the SMP who isn’t allowed in L’manburg because he’s not European and L’manberg is for Europeans only - and he decides he’s running as well.

A last-minute entry from JSchlatt and a party alliance between Quackity and Schlatt meant that Schlatt barely won the election. Schatt’s first decree is to exile Tommy and Wilbur, and they’re chased out of L’manburg by a rain of arrows. The walls are torn down, the flag burned by Fundy and a new flag erected and L’manberg is renamed Manberg.

Tommy and Wilbur find shelter in an underground canyon they name Pogtopia, Tubbo is left behind and recruited to be a mole/spy for them and they call in the help of an old friend - Technoblade.

(An aside here, Techno, Tommy, Wilbur and another Minecraft youtube - Philza - have a group dynamic called the Sleepy Boys Incorporated. Lots of people headcanon them as a family, with Phil being the father and the others being brothers, but I like Phil being Wilbur’s father, Tommy being adopted/just showing up and they can’t get rid of him, and Techno being an old friend of Phil’s who’s about Wilbur’s age)

Schlatt announces a Festival. Tubbo is in charge of decorations for it and is also giving a speech. On the way back after spying on the announcement, Wilbur turns to Tommy and asks if they’re being the bad guys. He then announces “let’s be the badguys” and despite Tommy’s protests, gets a Whole Lotta TnT of Dream.

The day of the festival arrives - Wilbur has rigged the entirety of Manburg with tnt. Wilbur and Tommy spy on the festivals while Techno who was invited joins in. Then, after Tubbo’s speech - which is going to be the cue to explode it all - things start to go wrong. Schlatt and Quackity trap Tubbo in a box, and Techno is called up to execute him because Schlatt figured out he was a mole.

Techno does because of mild peer pressure, Wilbur goes to find the button but can’t, Techno goes on a rampage and murders a whole bunch of people, and Tommy is Upset. Back at Pogtopia he challenges Techno to a 1v1 fist fight which he loses (dude has not won a single 1v1)

Tubbo is now with Pogtopia, having lost the second of his three canon lives (as have Tommy and Wilbur at different points). Fundy reveals himself to be a spy for Pogtopia (though Wilbur still calls him his ‘traitor son’ and ‘look my son who I despise”), and Dream announces that there’s a traitor in their midst. A date is set for the final war.

The day arrives. There are 11 and a half stacks of tnt under Manberg. Techno shows the team his underground bunker and they all gear up. After a battle, Dream announces that they want to surrender, and shows them Schlatt, who dies to a very anticlimatic heart attack.

Wilbur appoints Tommy president, who declines and Tubbo becomes president instead. Then Wilbur slips off to the button room, saying that the thing he built the country for no longer exists (turns out he’s the traitor).

Then Philza, who had previously not been whitelisted, joins the server directly behind Wilbur and at the same moment, Techno shoots Tubbo, announcing that despite constantly saying he was fighting against government he’d been betrayed by them setting up a government right in front of him. Everyone starts fighting while Phil tries to talk Wilbur down. Wilbur doesn’t listen, hits the button, blows up Manberg and then asks Phil to kill him. Phil does, (somewhat reluctantly “you’re my son!”) and then rushes down to help the others fight the two withers that Techno just spawned.

In the aftermath, New L’manberg rises with Tubbo as president. Techno goes into retirement and Wilbur comes back as Ghostbur - who is extremely wholesome and has a bad memory, cos he’s not able to remember anything bad. There’s a stretch of peace, in which Ranboo joins the server, Ghostbur, Fundy and Phil have some family bonding, Ghostbur hands out blue which apparently sucks up sadness, and some side plots happen.

Then Tommy and Ranboo burn down the house of the current king of the smp and Dream takes his chance. Through various manipulations, threats, and forcing people into situations they don’t want to be from Dream, Tubbo exiles Tommy.

Tommy has a Hard Time in exile with Dream heavily manipulating him, to the point where he’s staring longingly at lava in the nether and being a shell of himself. Ghostbur hangs out with him for a bit (giving him and tubbo both compasses that point to each other) but just vanishes one day, leaving tommy completely alone with Dream. (it’s later revealed that Dream sent him off to wander in the snow - and turns out snow and rain melts him. He also finds a blue sheep who he calls Friend)

New L’manberg is rotting from the inside, Tubbo bowing more and more to the pressures of his new role and becoming more corrupt. He and his cabinet (Fundy and Quackity and Ranboo is there as well) put Phil under house arrest while trying to track down Techno to kill him.

Dream pushes a little too hard with Tommy, and Tommy towers high into the sky, realizes Dream was never his friend and leaves, finding shelter under Techno’s house.

The butcher army (Tubbo, Fundy, Quackity and Ranboo’s there too) capture Techno by holding his horse hostage and try to execute him, but he escapes with the help of Dream (which will come back because Techno now owes him a favour) and goes back home to find a feral Tommy living like a raccoon in his basement. Tubbo then goes to visit Tommy, only to find a creator where Dream blew everything up, and a tower reaching into the sky, with no sign of Tommy. He assumes Tommy is dead.

Techno and Tommy have been hanging out together, Tommy wanting to get his discs back (Tubbo having one he gave him as a symbol of trust and Dream having the other, but Techno wants to destroy L’manberg and the government) Tommy is slowly building up his confidence and sneaking back into L’manberg. Techno rescued Phil from his house arrest. Tubbo has been burying himself in projects and being mostly ooc which I translate to ‘my best friend just died and it’s partly my fault so I'm gonna go make a guardian farm and Not Think About That.’ Ranboo is the only one with any sense and can see that Dream is holding all the streams and that people shouldn’t be fighting, but working together to defeat him. He’s technically part of L’manberg, but he’s been hanging out with Techno and Tommy a fair bit.

And Dream commissioned a prison that is going to be completely inescapable. Like, completely. Like, the creator of the prison died and respawned inside it at one point and said it’d take him an hour to get out and he knows how it works and had to be teleported out. Like, this thing will send texts to the guards’ phones if a block is broken. We have no idea what it’s for and we are afraid.

In today’s stream, Tommy and Techno hold someone hostage in an effort to get Techno’s weapons back, Tommy and Tubbo properly see each other for the first time and get into a bit of a fight, Techno starts to slowly turn Tommy against Tubbo/the government and Tommy faces off with Dream, gaining enough confidence to cuss him out.

And that’s basically where we’re at now. This is a very rough outline of what happens, and I’ve left out most of the more cursed lore (Wilbur has fun) and a lot of the side plots (like the Crimson egg that’s been spreading, and El Rapids).
