Pre-Orders for “To Drive the Hundred Miles” by Alec J. Marsh NOW OPEN!
Tumblr media
You can now pre-order the queer holiday novella To Drive the Hundred Miles by Alec J. Marsh!
Serendipity, WA is filled with Christmas cheer, beautiful mountain views, and trans man Will’s feminist Wiccan family. Home for the holidays, he avoids their clumsy attempts at support by hiding in the local coffee shop and flirting with Bea, a friend from high school.
The beautiful landscapes can’t make up for the the realities of being queer in a small town, and Bea wants out. Will grabs for a prosperity spell, and finds a new way to connect to the magic he’s become estranged from. New romance and optimism get them through the holidays, ready to face their next problems.
Author Alec J. Marsh describes his novel To Drive the Hundred Miles as a Hallmark movie made queer. With a trans male protagonist and an immersive first-person point of view, this novella will draw you in and hold your attention from start to finish. Join Will as he struggles with his family’s acceptance of him, and as he struggles with his own acceptance of the potentially bright future offered to him by the cute barista Bea. Ringing in the season with lows and highs, a whole lot of coffee and pancakes, and a modest dollop of spicy f/m content, you won’t want to miss your chance to get this touching book—now as a gorgeous trade paperback for the first time ever!

Okay i just finished the audiobook of The Route of Ice and Salt by José Luis Zárate and it was fucking phenomenal?!? Like it was really good. I had high hopes for it cuz I've had it on my tbr for a while now and i really wanted to get to it but i had no idea what to expect from it and it delightfully surprised me by how intense and engaging it was. Honestly no notes, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.
Just a quick description, it's a queer reimagining of Dracula that follows the unnamed captain of Demeter, the schooner which brought Dracula from Bulgaria to England. It's a mexican gothic novella filled with queer desire.

Amazon is raising their prices for print-on-demand books, which means that on June 20th the price of my little novella will go up. Which means you should buy it now, while it's still cheap!
Not convinced yet? Here are some excerpts from its reviews:
So charmed by this faerie tale, not too long, not too short, just right. Hits all the tropes; dragon, princess, fairy godmother. Then turns them upside down. And inside out. Slick turns of event abound, and there isn't a prissy moment anywhere. A wonderful, dragon-positive, high-fantasy friendship story between a lesbian and an aro-ace woman! There's a lot going on here within the short scope of The Faerie Godmother's Apprentice Wore Green's novella length—I admire the narrative's metaphors about how pain is sometimes too great to be contained and will have out to wreak destruction, and about how outsiders who do not share our marginalizations will, no doubt, get our stories wrong as they pass out of our control and into legend. What can be said except that this story is charming and deftly written? The prose is laced with humor and tropes or plot points found themselves cleverly twisted. There was a smile on my face before the first page ended and it stayed until there wasn't any more to read (Which, I suppose, was the only negative point: I would have happily followed the characters further!) I don’t think The Faerie Godmother’s Apprentice Wore Green is being marketed as young adult, but it would make for a good crossover. It’s certainly the sort of story I could have read and loved when I was younger. A princess who doesn’t fall in love with anyone? Dragons? I would have been thrilled! I was still thrilled to read this as an adult, but I also wish I’d had it when I was a younger girl, a familiar feeling for queer stories.

Hello! I wrote a book and I think y'all will like it. It's for fans of Good Omens, Hannibal, Angels Before Man, and all the queer people who deserve financial compensation from the catholic church.
I present to you:
FIRST CREATION, a high heat queer horror novella with a trans angel MC and a queer demon LI!
Tumblr media
FIRST CREATION is a love letter to fallen angels, to finding your place in the world, to connecting to religion in a way that works for you. To touch and peaches, and surviving horrible things, to finding a place to be holy if God won't give it to you. (it's also nasty, and about cannibalism and shame and guilt, too)
It's a 22k word (98 page) novella that you can read in one (or two, or three) sittings.
You can find it on Amazon and itch.io here to read an actual synopsis and look at reviews. You can also find content warnings at the bottom of my website: (I definitely encourage you to read them before you buy!)
Here's also some unhinged ao3 tags for fun

Callout post for Seanan McGuire, author of the hit book series, Wayward Children-- I mean criminal mastermind
Tumblr media
As you can see by this very official and very clearly cited and sourced and verified claim with no basis, my adorable and precious and sweet cat has been THIEFED and SCRUNKLED and SMARTENED by none other than @seananmcguire , author of the recently published Lost in the Moment and Found, part of the Wayward Children series (which is quite good-- I mean a fiendish ploy to catnap my baby girl).
Pictured above, is the DESCRIPTION of what they had DONE to my BABY by my best friend ACE RESEARCHER.
SUCH EVIL.
Here is my poor little baby who has done no wrong ever in her whole life and is just a little creature.
Tumblr media
Look at her. Sleek. Commanding. Pristine. Orange and therefore dumb as a bag of rocks.
How daaaare you take my baby and un-himbo her. How daaaare you scrunkle such a sleek child. This needs to be dealt with promptly with the fullest extent of my power!
MORE CAT PICTURES.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah anyways if you could spread this around that'd be great because everyone needs to see my child-- I mean get more eyes on this series-- I mean BRING SEANAN TO JUSTICE.

“No one has come in in three hours,” she said. “And you’re right, I have better ways to spend my Christmas than working. Do you have any of that brandy left?” I checked the inside pocket of my jacket, and the flask was still there. I handed it to her, and she added generous portions to both of the mugs, then handed me one. She took a seat in the other armchair and tucked her feet up under her. “Well, merry Christmas,” she said. “Merry Christmas,” I agreed with less bitterness than I expected. This felt like the ideal Christmas, I realized. Sitting in a quiet coffee shop with Bea when no one wanted anything from either of us. She was who I wanted; she made my days feel special.

We're heading into the Trans Rights Readathon season so I wanted to pop in and let you all know I have several options, including FOUR web novels (three of which are on Tapas, but all of them are on my Patreon with even more chapters available than what's out for the public). All of my web novels include not only trans and non-binary but almost entirely queer casts (many of whom also have disabilities, lots of cool rep!)
I also have the R-PNZL: A Futuristic Fairytale trilogy available in digital format for an instant and quick read AND a brand new digital only eco body-horror novelette featuring an athlete and a transmasc non-binary doctor struggling with weird botanical mutations! I'd love to be a part of your Trans Rights Readathon readings, all of my links and stories can be found on my website - disturbancesbyalycia.weebly.com and my Patreon - Alycia Davidson Author

Her doctor is giving her the body of his dreams... and her nightmares. Isa is a micro-celebrity who rarely shows her face, and can’t wait to have it expertly ripped off and rearranged to look more feminine. When a successful fundraiser makes her gender affirming surgery possible, she’s overjoyed—until she has to give up all her money to save her dying father. Crushed by gender dysphoria and the pressure of disappointing her fans who paid for a new face, she answers a sketchy ad seeking transgender women for a free, experimental feminization treatment. The grotesquely flawless Dr. Skurm has gruesome methods, but he gets unbelievable results, and Isa is finally feeling comfortable in her skin. She even gains the courage to ask out her crush: an alluring and disfigured alchemy-obsessed artist named Rayna. But Isa’s body won’t stop changing, and she’s going from super model to super mutant. She has to discover the secret behind her metamorphosis—before the changes are irreversible, and she’s an unwanted freak forever.

Yeah I like queer characters.
I like messy, raw, scraped bloody queer characters. I like it when they don't learn their lessons, when they become worse, where they don't have a positive character arc.
But even more than that, I want fucked up characters who just HAPPEN to be queer. No soft realizations of queerness here. Those stories have their place but they aren't for me. I came into this world bloody and screaming and I want to read about people like me.
I like it when they are vindictive, when they are abrasive, when they hurt people they love and don't know how to say sorry. I want them to be brutal and nasty and to keep me up at night. I like it when they can make mistakes and have to pay for them.
I like seeing the worst pieces of myself in fictional characters, who are telling the story, who were lovingly crafted by a writer. Someone who was brave enough to say "I don't want to make a good guy."
So yeah, I like queer characters, but I want to feel them eating my heart out as I read or watch their stories.
I hope this shines through in my work as well.

WIP intro - Warm Climates
genre: adult literary fiction / fantasy / horror, novella
( magical realism, queer gothic, the personification of the house, the lovecraftian horror of grief, death )
status: drafting / 2k words out of a ~20k word goal
pov: third person limited, present tense.
summary: Following the death of her mother, Cecilia Fierro leaves behind the city and a failed marriage in hopes of relearning herself, and finds more than she bargained for — a haunted house brimming with memories, an elusive woman in the woods, all the scars unseen and hidden inside of a soul.
tags: #: warm climates, #sun on skin, #celiza
characters:
Cecilia Fierro | 55, she/her, chained to the past in a way unknown even to her own self, painstakingly human.
Eliza | ??, she/her, knows curiosity wasn’t what killed the cat.
excerpt:
From here, the house seems to be millimeters tall and Cecilia would need to run for minutes in order to reach it. There was a time when that was easy, there was a time when running was the only option. The dirt road leaves its mark on the pickup truck’s windshield. It hasn’t rained in days. Maybe dirt is better than mud, anyway. Easier to clean up. The animals that were supposed to greet her have been dead for a long time. Maybe having no one to look after is better than the alternative, anyway. Less work for someone who’s running away from theirs. The house, its dauting presence, grows with each passing second — a good chunk of the plants around it has succumbed to the summer heat, and the rest is overgrown, ugly. It has too many windows, it’s painted this sickly dark-red, blood-red, wine color that churns Cecilia’s stomach. Keep the house, Cassie had said, It was always more yours than it was mine. Getting rid of something you were attached to for so long feels like disembodiment. Surgically removing a vital organ and watching as the blood gushes out of the wound.
Cecilia kept her dead mother’s farm house, of course. What else was she supposed to do?
