The Ship of Dreams - 2/? | snowbaird fanfiction
A/N: Update. Slightly filler.
...
Chapter 2 -
Lucy Gray and her two cousins sprinted through the crowds to make their way to one of the final boarding ramps attached to the Titanic. At one point Lucy Gray had to pick up little Maude Ivory since she wasn’t keeping up, her little legs tripping over themselves as she almost fell.
“Come on, Maude Ivory, we’re in a hurry! Lucy Gray laughed as she picked her up and the young girl wrapped her legs around her.
The ramp they were heading towards was slowly departing from the ship when Lucy Gray and Barb Azure climbed onto the bottom of it.
“Wait! Wait! We’re passengers! We’re passengers!” Lucy Gray called out, huffing and puffing with Maude Ivory clinging to her. She set her down as soon as they reached the top and held out the tickets for the three of them.
“Have you been through the inspection queue?” the check-in worker asked them suspiciously.
“Of course!” Lucy Gray cried. “Anyway, we don’t have any lice. We’re Americans. All three of us.”
“R-right. Come aboard.”
And the three of them hopped over the little space between ship and ramp to jump aboard, Maude Ivory in Lucy Gray’s arms again until they’d crossed the threshold.
“We’re the luckiest Covey girls in the world, you know that?” Lucy Gray laughed, running with her cousins down the corridor and then to the top deck to wave goodbye to the crowds waving up at them.
“You know someone?” Barb Azure asked, amused, as Maude Ivory was once again set down.
“Of course not. That’s not the point,” Lucy Gray said, equally amused, then turned to wave goodbye to said crowds. “Goodbye! We’ll miss you!”
Barb Azure relaxed some and let herself enjoy the moment.
“We’ll never forget you!” she cried out.
Maude Ivory shouted her little goodbyes too.
When they were out of sight of the mainland, they headed down below deck to find their room. It turned out their beds were separated into two rooms, so to keep little Maude Ivory with one of them, Barb Azure volunteered to go into the other room, which luckily was housed with three other women.
“You sure?” Lucy Gray asked.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” Barb Azure assured her. “Let’s settle in for a bit, and then we can go explore.”
Lucy Gray forced a smile and nodded.
“Yeah, okay.”
She guided little Maude Ivory in and heaved her up onto the top bunk after greeting the other two passengers.
“You okay up there?” she asked, intent on making sure her little cousin was as comfortable as possible.
But Maude Ivory was already settling in, swinging her legs from the top.
“I’m fine. When can we go?”
Lucy Gray just laughed it off.
“Soon.”
A few levels up, with an excellent view of the ocean stretching out around them, Coriolanus Snow and his party were settling in. Unlike the third class that had only one small room with two bunk beds, their first-class tickets had gotten them multiple rooms, lavishly decorated and large to move around in.
In the main room, the sitting room, Coriolanus had started pulling out large canvases of paintings and setting them up around the room. He’d even looped in Livia’s maid to help him scatter them about the room. It wasn’t often that Coriolanus found an artist to be superior to his own work, but this one he did. Mainly because he was a painter, and he himself stuck to pencil drawings, but still. The work was fascinating, and if he was going to be stuck with this bunch for the next several days – and into the foreseeable future if he was honest – the least he could do was be surrounded by such exquisite art.
“Oh, god, not those finger paintings again,” Livia drawled as she walked into the room. “They certainly were a waste of money,” she said, sounding bored and annoyed, since her money had been the one to pay for them.
The difference between Livia’s taste in art and mine is that I have some, Coriolanus thought. They’re fascinating.
But he ignored her aloud, searching for a particular painting to separate out from the bunch.
“Is it this one?” young Annie asked, pulling out a bluish, purpleish colored one.
But he shook his head.
“No, it had a lot of faces on it.” Then it caught his eye. “This is the one.” He set it down off to the side of the other ones. “Isn’t it magnificent?”
“Mmm,” she commented. “What’s the artist’s name?” she asked, intrigued.
“Something Picasso,” Coriolanus said offhandedly.
Livia snorted and moved into the room, arms folded.
“Something ‘Picasso’? He won’t amount to a thing. He won’t! Trust me.” She glanced over at Egert, who she admired dearly and often shared her opinions. “At least they were cheap.”
The next afternoon, Lucy Gray tugged her cousins along again till they were at the very front of the ship.
“Come on! I have an idea!”
When they reached it, Lucy Gray climbed up on the railing, clinging to the wire for stability.
“I’m the Queen of the World!” She turned back to her cousins and giggled. “Come on!” She reached for little Maude Ivory who climbed up onto the first step of the railing. “Scream. Scream as loud as you can!” Lucy Gray encouraged her. And Maude Ivory belted at the top of her lungs.
Lucy Gray turned to Barb Azure and raised an eyebrow, waiting.
Barb Azure sighed and shook her head.
“Very well.”
Being careful as ever, Barb Azure climbed up onto the lowest railing as well, clinging to the hefty wire for dear life.
“Now…scream,” Lucy Gray told her.
“And have someone come running? I don’t think so.”
Lucy Gray rolled her eyes. “Fine. Then look down.”
Barb Azure hesitated, not a fan of heights, but she did as she was told and was mesmerized. She gasped.
“Dolphins!”
Lucy Gray grinned, then encouraged her younger cousin to do the same.
“Woo-hoo-hoo! Look at ‘em go!”
One after another the dolphins jumped into the air and dove back down to where the ship met water.
Lucy Gray and her cousins watched them for what felt like hours before hopping down and relaxing in a bench farther down along the deck. Lucy Gray had her guitar with her, and she started to play as little Maude Ivory, who sang even better than her older cousin started to sing along.
“Nothing you can take from me…was ever worth keeping. Nothing you can take…was ever worth keeping.”
“Sing it, Maude Ivory,” she encouraged.
Coriolanus was bored.
Bored and annoyed.
He listened to the other men sitting around their late lunch table going on and on about how grand the Titanic was and who was responsible for what, and found he could not tune them out fast enough without a cigarette between his lips.
No sooner had he put it there and lit it than his Grandma’am leaned in and informed him under his breath how much she didn’t approve. The urge to blow some smoke in her face was almost overwhelming. But just as he was about to succumb to the idea, Livia reached over and pulled the cigarette from his lips, wrapping it up in a napkin on the table after tapping it briefly on his plate.
“He knows, and he’s sorry, Grandma’am.”
Coriolanus clenched his jaw and continued to clench it as the waiter came by and Livia ordered both their meals for them.
He joined the conversation the men were having then, aware of Tigris watching him closely across the way. His annoyance must’ve come through though because he ended up underhandedly insulting the man responsible for the whole damn ship he was on.
“What has gotten into you?” Grandma’am barked beside him.
He scooted back, needing some fresh air.
“Excuse me.”
“Coriolanus,” Livia tried, but he ignored her and left to go out onto the balcony.
Maude Ivory continued to belt out her pretty singing voice, gathering a few other third-class passengers to enjoy the show. In fact, they enjoyed it so much that they started to toss coins into a cap Barb Azure had brought along.
It wasn’t until Lucy Gray’s guitar strumming slowed to almost nothing that passersby continued on, and little Maude Ivory looked at her cousin, mildly annoyed.
“What are y-”
But Barb Azure, having connected the dots already, pointed Maude Ivory in the direction of where her cousin was staring.
There was a gentleman standing on the overlooking balcony, staring out into the horizon. He was a handsome gentleman with his height, his white-blonde curls, and the suit he’d been wearing to what had probably been dinner. He also looked like he’d been suffocating a bit from wherever he’d come from.
“He’s not that pretty,” Maude Ivory commented, and it was enough for Lucy Gray to snap out of the reverie he’d put her under, especially when he caught wind of her staring from afar and looked at her intently too before looking away.
Barb Azure was amused, trying her best to hide a smile.
“Prettiest gentleman I’ve ever laid my eyes on,” Lucy Gray muttered. “Gorgeous.”
She looked back up at him, but an equally beautiful young woman was approaching the gentleman and urging him inside, to which he looked annoyed but still went inside.
Lucy Gray felt insecurity tugging at her insides. Of course the gentleman would have a pretty lady at his side. Whether he’d been annoyed with her or not, that didn’t mean the woman was to blame. He maybe even loved her.
She scowled.
“Don’t do that,” Barb Azure scolded.
Lucy Gray blinked. “Do what?”
“Make up imaginary scenarios in your head. Find a gorgeous third-class man and stare at him.”
Lucy Gray rolled her eyes.
“There are no gorgeous third-class men.”
“Then sing with Maude Ivory and get us some extra change,” she laughed.
Lucy Gray’s jaw clenched, but she nodded and tried to get the pretty gentleman out of her head.
It was impossible.

Hello! Could I please get Dimitri with a SO who is Claude’s best friend. They’re trying to keep the relationship secret but Claude is a nosy busy bee
Dimitri x S/O whose best friend is a very nosy Claude
note: I apologize if this seems more Claude-centric than Dimitri, I tried finding a way to balance both and this is the result of it.
• Dimitri was a very popular person, not just for his standing as the crown prince of Faerghus, but for his kindness and looks
• you weren’t immune to his charm, he was both a very kind and a very handsome person, and so you felt attraction to him like so many others did
• the only difference was that he felt attraction to you too, much to your surprise
• knowing the sheer amount of jealousy your relationship would bring, you both agreed to be discreet about your relationship
• it was hard, Dimitri often expressed his desire to be openly affectionate with you, but you made it work
• you were both content to keep it a secret until you both could find a way to reveal it without putting you in jeopardy
• ...except you forgot to factor in the nosiness of your best friend, one Claude von Riegan
• he loved a good secret, and he wasn’t unwilling to snoop around for them
• so obviously, as his best friend, you were searched more thoroughly for those secrets he loved oh-so-much than most people
• hiding a relationship was hard enough already without someone like Claude hot on your trail
• no matter what lie you’d give him, not matter how many excuses you’d make, he saw through them all; he never believed you for a minute
• it was extremely frustrating for both you and Dimitri, you were stressed by Claude’s persistence and Dimitri was upset because you were upset
• the only one who seemed to get a kick out of this was Claude, the cheeky schemer, but it was probably because he didn’t realize how badly this bothered you
• you finally gave Claude the cold shoulder after weeks of unending frustrating and pent up anger, you refused to show him how angry you really were because it would make keeping your secret that much harder
• Claude thought that you would get over yourself and apologize if he bribed you with enough gifts and favors… until you didn’t
• he didn’t expect you to keep up the act, so he came to you instead to ask you about your troubles
• he’d never seen you like this before, and he still cared for you as a friend despite his snooping around
• you still adamantly refused to tell him about your relationship, so you merely told him that you wanted him to keep is nose out of your business
• Claude agreed… on one condition
if you told him about that one little secret you were so keen on keeping from him, he would lay off for the rest of the year
• you weighed your options, trying to find a good way out of this while pointedly ignoring Claude’s self-satisfied grin
• you hesitantly agreed, telling him to meet you in a secluded location and to tell absolutely no one where you would meet him
• despite his jokes about how cloak-and-dagger the whole situation was, Claude upheld his end of the promise and came without telling anyone
• when you two met, you reluctantly told Claude about your relationship with Dimitri, and your mutual desire to keep it secret because you knew people would target you for it
• Claude was very understanding of the situation, he knew (more than you would ever know) the fear of having a target painted on your back simply because you wanted to be yourself around others and so he agreed to keep it a secret
• you thanked him sincerely for his secrecy, and Dimitri was also relieved to see that your problem had resolved itself smoothly
• Claude was still a bit wary of Dimitri, he had to look out for you somehow, but otherwise didn’t bother you like you asked
• you were finally able to relax, you were in a happy but secret relationship with the man of your dreams and your best friend not only supported you but respected your boundaries
• as long as you had them, you felt that everything would go well

{ @ocean-gray-waves asked for a starter! }
“Ponyo!”
The mascot laughed, lifting the boy into his arms easily, tossing him up and catching him playfully. “How have you been, son?” he asked. Obviously, he was happy to see the boy again after he had basically saved the mascot’s life.
“How’s your ranger training going?” he asked, ruffling the kid’s hair fondly.

Your Majesty, I am rather curious... have you considered founding some sort of imstitute for research on mental health? Such an institute could be incredibly beneficial for so, so many people... including yourself.
Tumblr media
Such a thing exists? Or such a thing can exist? I was not aware of this, many here tend to wave off the unsoundness of a mind to be a weakness. And you're saying this could be of benefit to the people? How interesting. How does one go about establishing such an institute, may I ask? Though I am intrigued to see how this could help myself, I am more focused on reaching more people like me with this. Please, if there is any information you could provide to me about this, I would be most grateful for it. To think, there is such a way to help people like myself. I never would have thought that was possible.

Hey, hey! Guess who’s back again with more Sylvain content. Writing for him is fun until I realized that I relate to him on a far more personal level than is comfortable for me. Huh. Oh well.
“Oh I’m terribly sorry you have to go through this because of something I did wrong…” Marianne mumbles worriedly to you.
You simply waved off her concerns.
“It’s quite alright Marianne, you didn’t do anything wrong, at least it tells us how well you’re doing with reason magic!”
You were trying to stay positive for the sake of Marianne so she wouldn’t feel too guilty, but it didn’t seem to be working.
“Ah yes, I guess you’re right, but it still doesn’t change the fact that your leg is encased in ice from the knee downwards… I’m still terribly sorry about that.”
“Oh, it’s really quite alright! At least we know that you can cast a Blizzard spell effectively, now we just have to work on accuracy.”
You mentally thanked the goddess that it was a warm day today, it would help melt the ice faster. But not fast enough…
“Say, Marianne? Could you go find Sylvain for me please? I think he can help me thaw the ice enough so I can get to my next class on time.”
“Oh! Of course. I’ll go find him right away.”
And on that note, Marianne left the training hall to go find your classmate. Sighing to yourself, you casted a small fireball and held it over your leg. It would take a while for Marianne to find him, so you might as well get started.
“I’m back! And I’ve brought Sylvain with me.” Marianne said breathlessly, not even five minutes later. Huh, that was quick. You blinked in surprise at how fast she managed to find him before regarding the tall redhead.
“So, I heard you needed help with something. What can I- ooh that’s a lot of ice.” Sylvain grimaced at the sight of your leg, but quickly hid it when he noticed Marianne’s flinch.
“It’s not your fault Marianne, it was a complete accident. Training accidents happen all the time, I’m not injured either so everything will be okay.”
You gently reassured Marianne again, sighing with relief when she seemed more relaxed. Turning to Sylvain, you spoke with a serious voice.
“Sylvain, I know the professor has been teaching you reason magic lately and you know a few spells. Can you please help me thaw out my leg so I won’t be late to our next class? I know you’ve learned a lot of fire spells recently, you can call it magic practice if you’d like.”
With a lazy grin, Sylvain considered his options. He could offer to carry you to class, but knowing you, you’re more likely to stumble to class on your own, even if your entire lower leg was rendered immobile. Or… A devious glint appeared in his eye, one that you didn’t like at all.
“Say, let's make a deal. I’ll help you thaw out your leg, and you can pay me back my going on a date with me. Sounds good?”
You internally groaned at the proposition. Of course, he would try to weasel a date with you out of it. But, time was ticking, and you’d really rather not have to limp to class and wait til the ice melted. Sighing, you turned back to Sylvain.
“Fine. I’ll humor you this one time. But! You have to start helping me right now, there’s little time to spare.”
Sylvain winked at you in response.
“I hear ya loud and clear, let’s melt this leg of yours. And maybe, we can melt the ice around your heart along the way~.”
Ignoring the urge to slap him, you rolled your eyes and continued to focus on melting the ice on your leg.
“Come on, help me already. The more you help, the more likely I am to go on this date you want.”
Turning back to Marianne, you smiled at her.
“Thanks for bringing me help, Marianne. I’ll be fine now, you don’t have to stay around if you don’t want to.”
Shaking her head, Marianne continues to wring her hands.
“Of- of course I’m willing to stay. Please, if there’s anything I can do to help, tell me. I’m the one who got you in this mess in the first place…”
“Then the best way you can help me is to accept that you aren’t at fault here. It was a minor accident and I’m not hurt. Please don’t take the blame here.”
Shakily nodding, Marianne relaxes a bit more.
“Of course, I’ll try my best to keep that in mind.”
Smiling gently at her, you begin to focus more on the fireball in your hands, keeping the fire steady but also keeping it small enough to where it wouldn’t blow up in your face. You were distinctly aware of the people getting up and leaving the training grounds to head to their next classes, and of Marianne’s mumbled goodbyes and well wishes. Locking eyes with Sylvain, you both began to slowly increase the power of your fireballs and melt the ice enough to free your leg. As soon as your leg was freed, Sylvain helped ease you back on your feet again so you can get used to having feelings in your leg. After walking around the bench you were sitting on a few times, you turned back to the red haired man.
“Thanks Sylvain, I guess I’ll have to make it up to you with that date huh?”
Sylvain grinned at you as you both began to head to your next class.
“Ah, it’s no worries! Although a date would be nice, I wouldn’t be so rude as to force you to do it, you know?”
You smiled at him, grateful that you didn’t have to go on a date with him. And yet… you still wanted to make it up to him for helping you.
“How about we just meet up for tea as friends? You’re not as bad as Ingrid makes you out to be, so I’d like to get to know you better as a friend.”
“Sure! I’d like to get to know you better too! But uh, let’s get to class first. The professor would have our heads for being tardy.”
You shuddered at the thought of it, the impassive expression of your professor’s face made them all the more terrifying when you’re late to class.
“Yeah, let’s hurry up before they give us detention for being late.”
With that, you both quicken your pace and rushed to class. Now no longer as mere classmates, but as friends. Maybe something good came out of that accident after all.
