ok ok so when I first joined tumblr I didn't really have a specific digital artstyle yet, so I'd do a lot of art studies of artists I liked. (I remember specifically mellie and @/soso_doodles being specific ones I'd sit down and just practice sketching.)

But I remember going through your art tag and just noticing things I really liked, and even now going through certain things there's traits from your art that I've definitely adopted into mine. And I kind of realized this a few months ago when I was lurking on tumblr and was like oh!! it's from quil!!

I loved the little lines on noses, and from time to time I'll add it under the eyes, but I'm pretty sure I took that, and more of a thicker, rougher-looking lineart style from you. Oh, and front facing-figures. I love how soft you make the jaw and the thickness of the neck from it. I still have a hard time with that myself (for some reason that's one of the things I'm most particular about?) but I didn't realize that's where it came from. Along with the fact that while I use some harder brushes to shade, I learned a lot of my softer cell shading from looking at your art.

With that last point, I've never really been too good at watercolor, so I think I've always admired your skill in that specific medium and picked up some techniques that are similar to it bc of that. I also think that was more consciously figuring out to shade though. That and the way you added color into a face by adding red to the nose and a bit to the cheeks.

if you don't mind then my question is: how much do you know about Phoenix (the girl)? Like her purpose in the story and how she got to where she is, what she does, her relationship to the people around her, why she's important.

The thing is I know all the answers to those questions but I've lost track of just how much has actually been shared in the story so. not ideal for writing! I thought you might know some things though!

Quil I'm so sorry, I wanted to try and give you a much better response, however my time is quite squished at the moment, and I figured you want an answer somewhat quickly because you wanna include something in the upcoming chapter(s).

So, please take my late-night assumptions as I try to answer these questions to the best (which admittedly isn't great) ability:

What is Pheonix's purpose?

We don't really know! Girly has something to do with the monsters, (she's tamed one after all) and she was present during the decimation of the gnome village, and she knows about the gnome's journal and doesn't want Murad to know about it.

My memory is fuzzy, but it seems that she's a huge part of the Neverseen/Pheonix's plans to stop the mistake that they'd created.

How'd she get there?

Honestly I don't remember! You could have mentioned it once or twice, but she could have been scooped up off the streets, have a family, or she could have been created like Sophie was for the Black Swan.

My assumptions lean more toward the former, simply because of the way that Murad and Fintan both seem to treat her, along with the tests that they conduct.

What does she do?

You got me there! She seems to be incredibly intelligent, but we haven't gotten a confirmation of abilities other that chatting and taming the monster that she treats as a companion.

Relationships:

Murad: She definitely seems afraid or at the very least intimidated by him, probably because she knows what he's done to achieve his goals.

Fintan: Seems more nurturing, I remember him described as taking her hand a couple times and thinking that he may be a pyromaniac who's sanity is probably out the window, but he still has some kind of parental/mentor instincts in him.

Sophie: A little afraid, but desperate enough to get away from Pheonix and Murad to give her clues and help her escape from the facility.

Why's she important?

I'm dying to know honestly. Brain is scratching for an answer but it is not coming up with much. She's playing into this big plan but how? Bestie I cannot wait to find out.

i'm sure i can guess, but. thoughts on the kotlc smut debate? do you think it's appropriate?

I'm not interested in getting into discourse, so I'll try and keep this short and sweet (also, none of this is angry or targeted at anyone and I’m fine talking about it—I’m just not interested in senseless, unproductive arguing!!)

As the subjects are fictional, I don't care. They aren't real people. Smut written about them does not impact or hurt them in any way.

What someone chooses to write about and why is not my business. If it's smut written by teens about teens as a means of exploring sexuality, if its a means of processing experiences or abuse, if its for fun--whatever it is, that's their business. Including for adult authors. They can have just as valid motivations, not that they need to justify themselves. They literally cannot hurt these characters

As for real people, such as fans, no one is forced to read it. If you find yourself in the middle of something that makes you uncomfortable, you can stop reading and walk away. And yes, there may be initial discomfort as you realize--for which I am sympathetic, but it happens and that is on you to manage, not the author.

Authors are also not responsible for rule breakers who access sites they're not old enough for. We're responsible for tagging and adhering to the rules of hosting sites

Also, smut as a whole is a valid form of writing/creation. Sexuality is a normal (note: I am not saying it is the ONLY normal. ace here), widespread part of life, and sexual gratification and enjoyment are morally neutral

Am I personally gonna write any kotlcrew smut? No. Am I gonna read any? Probably no. Not my kind of kotlc fic. I by and large don't enjoy it. But fic writers who chose to engage with the subject here are not writing about real people, and not responsible for real people's comfort with their work beyond tagging.

Smut is always going to exist. It is safer for all parties if it is freely allowed to exist so no one has to disclose potentially very personal justifications (e.g. processing abuse/experiences), and so it can be properly tagged and avoided by those who want/need to--otherwise individuals will not tag appropriately in the interest of not being taken down, and that helps no one.

and since this was brought up last time: this is my stance. I can't tell you how to think, and I don't decide for anyone else what is right from wrong. i can only share my reasonings

Oh also: I don’t hold it against anyone who’s disgusted or uncomfortable with it! That’s fine. I don’t enjoy it either! Valid! But that doesn’t mean we can say it shouldn’t exist or harass people who write it (not saying anyone has, this is just addressing the broad question)

Quil: too many to count 😭 mostly social things, though - he especially has a thing about improper manners (assuming the person Is aware of proper manners)

Endra: being treated as immature (he is, in fact, immature)

Quil: too many books... ink bottles... plates (because eating in the kitchen is for losers!)

Endra: piano, cat (does that count as an item??), drawings

What do they notice first in a person?

Quil: this is setting-specific, but whether or not they have visible magical mutations, then their fashion (this informs him of their culture and thus expected social etiquette)

Endra: their facial expressions/body language (to see how friendly they seem)

On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?

Quil: 10/10, dude could walk off a bullet wound

Endra: like a solid 5/10

Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?

Quil: depends on the pressure! normally, fight mode, but if it's related to his Trauma, then flight (or freeze) all the way babey

Both are an only child, actually! Quil's parents wanted more, but he required so much attention because of medical stuff that they just couldn't afford to, and Endra was an accident lol

Quil used to be very close with his parents, but, well. shit happened lmfao. and Endra absolutely despises his mother ahaha (but would like his own family someday!)

What animal represents them best?

Quil: a snake (but not in the stereotypical 'grrr he's a snake' way! snakes deserve better>:()

Endra: puppy :) (he'd hate that)

Quil: the smell of dye

Quil: he's shattered bones beyond recognition, does that count

Endra: kind of quiet and reserved at first, but once comfortable, way too excitable and talkative, I should probably be annoyed but I'm unwillingly endeared by his enthusiasm

Are they a night owl or a morning bird?

Quil: sleep is for the weak <3 (so...both.)

Endra: he'll be the first out and the last up

What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?

(I actually wrote about this one lol)

Quil: he avoids anything sweet like the plague, and loves to oversalt everything (it's borderline inedible to others, and his heart will definitely not thank him for it)

Endra: he doesn't hate anything in particular, and baked apples <3

Quil: he actually really enjoys reading fairytales, but he's pretty much obsessed with biochemistry, so that's what most of his time goes into lol

Endra: playing the piano!:) and drawing:) and traveling (that's a new one)

Quil: he'd be frazzled for a second, but then he'd snap into the expected role (that'd also be his reminder that it's his birthday)

Quil: jewelry is big where he's from, and he's into it, too. he usually opts for more discreet and delicate stuff, though

Quil: reaaaally depends which timeline we're in (pre-death or post-death). in pre-death, endearment and determination. in post-death, anxiety and stress and panic and anxiety (you try to remain calm post your own death :|)

Endra: excitement and paranoia

Quil: probably silk tbh (yeah, he's that kind of person)

Quil: in the text, I describe it as 'lilting and honeyed'. in terms of speaking mannerisms, he somewhat adapts to his company, but usually it's quite proper and 'clinical', always impeccably polite (unless you've slighted him, then he'll go for the fucking jugular)

Endra: warm and soft, but if he were to speak in a different language, he'd sound kind of rough. he speaks quicker than thinks, so he often cuts himself off and restarts lol. tends to ramble (especially when stressed)
