My coworker Astrid and I were chatting yesterday. I mentioned that I have this specific moment that I’ve always felt like was my transition from child to sapient being where I suddenly looked at myself and had the epiphany that my appearance mattered to others perception of me and I conceptualized myself as a person. It was really wild and being a His Dark Materials fan I’ve always been like, yeah, that’s when I got Dust and my daemon settled.
Astrid was fascinated and told me she hadn’t had that exactly but she did remember being on this one road trip through Kansas and she’d looked up at the clouds and suddenly, all at once, she could perceive them as being three dimensional. Even though conceptually she’d always known they had depth she could now perceive the shape.
She told me this in the slightly embarassed way that said she didn’t think this sounded impressive and she wasn’t expecting me to sit bolt upright and exclaim, “Me too! I had that too! It blew my mind!”
It wasn’t that I hadn’t seen clouds before but clouds were just up there in the sky, taken for granted and generally they just made flat shapes. But to realize the full scope and depth of clouds, to shift from thinking about them as a faraway background element of nature to seeing them as huge majestic three dimensional things had been awe inspiring.
“Right?! I just spent the whole rest of the drive overwhelmed with the beauty of the world, staring at the clouds!”
“When I try to tell people how profound it was they just act like I was high but it was like, this massive shift in how I saw the world right around adolescence.”
Slightly curious if anyone else had experiences like these as they stepped toward adulthood.

i am so fucking DOWN for the Devastating Beauty shen yuan headcanon
imagine he gets transmigrated as an Original Character (no System maybe or just a System thats less restrictive bc hes an OC) and he just cant understand why everyone and their mother are scrambling to get their hands on him (hes a once in a lifetime celestial-level beauty). then he gets picked up by Cang Qiong's Beast Peak Lord because of the rumors that he isnt human but is instead some kind of mystical creature ?
he spends most of his time worrying that the protagonist would murk him for being a man in his universe so he tries his best to be as much of a background character as possible. his peak lord insists on him wearing a veil a la liu mingyan and shen yuan is like THATS GENIUS.
idk where i was going with this but yes devastating beauty shen yuan. i want more of it thank u

Of fucking course Zack has blood type O and Cloud has AB. Of course. Zack is the savior and Zack is the universal donor and Cloud is the one who can only receive- who can’t give back in turn.

when I first got into mp100 in high school I kept seeing headcanons about Teruki becoming some kind of school teacher and back then I didn't see how it made sense for him but now that I myself am a teacher I've been gotten. hanazawa teruki would definitely be a teacher. the kind of teacher that doesn't give up on ""troubled kids,"" no matter what. who puts bullies in their place and is also one of the few teachers those same bullies feel comfortable confiding in. no one in his class is perfect but everyone in his class is trying to grow.
it's also the funniest possible scenario if he took on any sort of guidance counseling. "middle school was hard for me too. I understand" "did you struggle with your grades too hanazawa-sensei?" "no I had a superiority complex because of my psychic powers and blew up the school with my mind. I've changed now though. anyway it says here you like marine biology"

After going through ep9 I find the dynamic of Eternal sugar and her designated epic cookie followers really interesting, at least compared to the other followers.
Cloud haetae has pretty much full unquestioned loyalty to mystic flour, and even though she's apathetic to most things she does seem to have some sort of positive feelings for him.
Nutmeg tiger seems to have a mix of fear and awe when to comes to Burning spice, even compared to the other spices ,who seem to be more scared of him than really loyal, she's especially loyal.
Candy apple is obsessed with Shadow milk, and Black Sapphire seems to be loyal to him as well, there is a bit of fear in there I think, but I guess you can't really escape that when it comes to being a follower of a beast.
But then there is Pavlova, Pavlova seems to follow Eternal sugar entirely out of fear of what might happen to him if he tried to leave, though possibly he also believes in what she believes in to a certain extent? It's wierd.
On the other hand, Sugarfly gives me BIG mind control vibes, like the way she talks and looks makes me think she's under some sort of spell or something.
I just think it's really interesting how the ex-virtue of happiness seemingly has the only followers so far that aren't loyal to her willingly.

so don't get me wrong here. I don't think that everythin pony says in the novel is true. however I'm not sure that he truly meets the qualifications for 'unreliable narrator' but rather 'child who is operatin with the most valid assumptions anyone would come to in his circumstances' n let me briefly try to convince you of this
hes not in anyway deluded about his surroundings or situation. in fact, he seems to have a unique understandin of the society him n his family n friends live in. he's realistic in his grasp on the social classes n his comprehension of how poverty affects not only your way in life but how others look at you simply for bein born on the wrong side of things (both the Socs n the social workers). he has many many throw away lines that show he knows exactly what the fact of the matter about their lives are.
as far as people there are two main examples I see the most used to label pony as an unreliable narrator. of course one is darry so I'll start with him. now I implore you to imagine somethin. you are thirteen n your parents have died. n your oldest brother has taken over guardianship of you. n he's changed. you don't know why. but now you no longer have the same relationship. he used to give you piggy back rides n let you tag along with his buddies n fold you in on the joke n cover for you when you stayed up late. n now he. doesn't. he always seems to be chidin you n hollerin at you n you can't understand why. or what happened to your brother. now. do we see why pony figured darry hated him? he doesn't have the privilege of a third party perspective like we do. all he knows is that his brother used to love him. n now he doesn't. n on top of his assumption bein utterly reasonable he realizes he was wrong. he's able to view the other side of the story by the end n recontextualize his understandin. that makes him incredibly reliable.
n this one is mostly silly but I feel the need to throw it out there too. his relationship with Steve doesn't make him an unreliable narrator either cause. again. imagine with me your a kid n you just wanna hang out with your older brother so bad n his friend clearly does not want you there ("That means no lil kids allowed") yeah. I'd assume he hates my ass to n beef with him crazy style. cause again he doesn't have the third party perspective of Steve still cares about him n worries about him while he's gone.
but I think the final nail in the unreliable narrator coffin for me is this line.

Pony's not an unreliable narrator. God. the kid can't even lie to himself.

Zack Fair had:
A girl who spent 4 years pining after him to the point she chased an afterimage of him (Aerith)
A girl who looked after his parents and his hometown due to sheer guilt and devotion (Cissnei)
A boy who spent 4 years trying to find him after he went missing (Kunsel)
And a boy who adopted his entire being and became his legacy after his death (Cloud)
Zack Fair was NOT playing.

Thinking about Bruce and his flaws again and the thing is while I can ignore most of the things he does in other comics because they're clearly using him to dramatically advance the stories of his kids (firing Dick in ntt, beating Jason in rhato, Tim's 16th birthday in Robin, his treatment of Cass during her Batgirl run etc.) it's his treatment of others in his own run especially women like Helena and Steph that kills me. Because several of the writers are clearly fully aware that they're writing him as a misogynist but instead of overcoming that character flaw the narrative ends up making the women atone and prove themselves to his unfair double standard (Helena in NML Steph in Robin) or suffer and die because the misogyny is as strong in the creative team as it was in Bruce (Steph during war games)
There's never any real reckoning with the flaws and attitudes they give him, likely because the writers see it as a character quirk instead of something that should negatively impact him and that he should overcome. Bruce Wayne murder fugitive has him hit Dick and later apologise. NML and War Games never have him take responsibility the same way. He's misogynistic, the women pay the price, he learns nothing because the message gets twisted to avoid the writer's own misogyny.
If you're a fan of Bruce you probably want to just pretend it never happened which is what a lot of writers choose to do. If you're a fan of the female characters affected you have to acknowledge it because it was a major story point for their character. And it wasn't even for them. They were were used and spat out to try and fail to make Bruce seem more complex.
And I say fail because it doesn't make Bruce more complex. The writers make him a bad person and then call it a day. No one around him actually holds him accountable. Everything goes back to the status quo. A new writer comes along and Batman is a straightforward hero again.
The only lasting impact is on the characters torn down to give him poorly written drama. All this to say if Babs Helena and Steph teamed up to murder Batman completely unprompted I would be their number one defender.

Watching Advent Children and Cloud truly doesn’t give a fuck it’s great. Kids on bikes who look like miniroths and call him brother? Sure. Fine. No they can’t have Jenova. Reno pulls a baton on him? He can wait outside during the plot relevant conversation. Rufus wants to exposition dump? Too damn bad, get to the point or shut up.
Cloud has his own can of problems and he wants nothing to do with this new mess and is refusing to give it any more attention than the bare minimum 10/10 man lived through like 3 apocalypses and does not have the fucks to give for another
