The Breach Brings The Heat With Great Practical Effects

The Breach is the new film from Rodrigo Gudino based on Nick Cutter's story of the same name.

The film was produced by Raven Banner and Hangar 18.

The film is about a police chief who was set to retire but was dragged into an ongoing mystery with horrifying results.

The Breach showed you can do a lot with a smaller budget. A little on the slower side, the film has a lot going for it. The score and music were top notch. Done by legendary guitarist Slash.

The performances were all fine for this type of movie but it was definitely shot very well and the production used a lot of practical effects to really sell the story and it worked out in their favor.

Many movies with this sized budget and story would most likely not use practical horror effects but they did it in this one and it was phenomenal.

Overall, the story is fresh and compelling and the practical effects were great. The acting was fine and the score was great. This is a smaller budget horror you should check out!

Raven Banner

The Banner of the Raven signifies a clandestine captain who prefers stealth to action and ambushes to open fights. If pressed, a captain of the Raven might be drawn into a direct confrontation, but they can never be expected to play fair. These captains might have more in common with rogues, and might even hold a position of leadership within a thieves’ guild. More than one guild master and bandit leader has flown the Raven Banner while on a raid.

Starting when you choose this banner at 3rd level, you are trained in ambush tactics. You learn the following maneuver: If you hit a creature with a weapon attack while one of your allies is within 5 feet of the target, you can expend a battle die to aim for the creature’s most vital areas. Add the battle die and half your level (rounded down) to the attack’s damage roll. This attack must use a finesse weapon or a light weapon.

MANEUVER: EFFORTLESS DODGE Also at 3rd level, you learn the following maneuver: As a bonus action, you can spend a battle die to take the Dodge action. You can’t use this maneuver while wearing medium or heavy armor.

COVERT At 7th level, when you are hidden and a creature discovers you with a successful Wisdom (Perception) check, you can reattempt your Dexterity (Stealth) check to hide. On a success, you silently reposition yourself and the creature doesn’t notice you. Once you use this ability, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE LAST Beginning at 13th level, you can intercede moments before an enemy strikes. As a reaction when a hostile creature you can see attacks, you can move up to your speed without provoking opportunity attacks toward the creature and make one attack targeting it. Resolve your attack before the creature makes any attacks. Once you use this ability, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

GUERILLA WARFARE Starting at 17th level, you are a master of unconventional combat. You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet. In addition, the first time you hit a creature with an attack during the first round of combat, you can add two battle dice to the attack’s damage roll without expending them.

On the card on the table was a black knight astride a white horse. The knight’s helmet was lifted so that it was obvious that his face was a bare skull dominated by eyeless sockets. The sun set beyond him, and below his horse’s hooves lay a corpse.

Outside the windows behind them, a breeze hissed audibly through the trees.

“Death.” Gansey read the bottom of the card. He didn’t sound surprised or alarmed. He just read the word like he would read eggs or Cincinnati.

“I thought that psychics didn’t predict death,” Adam said quietly. “I read that the Death card was only symbolic.”

Summary: Augus is summoned by the Unseelie King of the fae to test out his hand at being a diplomat with a secretive, cave-dwelling race of fae known as the vench. He is sent to the remote region of Aethelwaters to strike up a trade deal, with the King’s Mage and executioner - Gwyn ap Nudd - as his bodyguard.

They come face to face with a closed culture largely unreceptive to newcomers, initiations to test their merit, an unusual way of feeding, and pitfalls and traps at every turn. Will it drive the shaky foundation between Gwyn and Augus further apart? Or bring them together?
