Little hedonistic things to enjoy (Classic Academia edition):
โ€ข searching for old CDs and vinyls with classical music at flea markets;
โ€ข trying to translate your favourite latin poems in your native language;
โ€ข studying Homer in the middle of the night and trying to understand the greek way of thinking;
โ€ข exercising your shakespearian accent in front of the mirror, repeating Hamlet's monologue over and over again;
โ€ข losing hours after hours in library, researching the origin of the languages and the history of linguistics;
โ€ข reading newspapers from then and now and comparing the the journalistic approach, the research level and the wording;
โ€ข writing essays and little stories in painted leather notebooks;
โ€ข cooking old and even ancient recipes to see how they taste;
โ€ข imagining new scenarios after your favourite classic books with your friends and debating if the book could be better with a different ending.

Apparently reading this book is going to be exhausting
I find older books difficult to read at times (jane austen, the bronte sisters, anyone who likes being flowery) so i generally try to read the annotated versions when this happens to make things easier (i read wuthering heights this way and it was excellent) i tried reading lolita once. My mom's creepy bf told her she should read it, so she had a copy. Way too many nymphettes for my taste at 15.
I avoided lana del ray music for similar reasons which as an adult and enjoying her music i am glad i did she has good music but i was melodramatic enough as is.
Now trying to read lolita i decided to try the annotated version which is great because there's no little girls or any sort of references to them on the cover exactly how it should be the damn introduction is 75 pages and the notes lord the notes are about 140 pages its recommended to read them first which after reading a little bit that's probably what I'm gonna do but ye gods the work

do you ever just read a book and feel the need to analyse every single metaphor, deeper meaning and write thousands of essays about it?

Summer Reading Challange
Hello, Tumblr followers, casual watchers, first-timers, and anonymous visitors. I created this blog to share my passions with other academics. As a workaholic master's student, Tumblr is my little oasis of peace.
ย  Since summer vacation just started and I, due to school and work, haven't been able to read as much as I would have liked, I decided to start a summer reading challenge, from July 1 to September 30. The goal is to read as many books as I can. I will occasionally post reviews of the books I will read.
ย  If you want, you can leave recommendations, leave your own opinions or share your own summer challenge and progress. The first version of my list includes 30 titles, I will add more later if something seems interesting to me.
Summer Reading Challenge List:
The Goldfinch // Donna Tartt
The Master and Margarita // Mikhail Bulgakov
Dead Souls // Nikolai Gogol
