another pretty meaty article on mullenweg, moreso about his treatment of employees and ex-employees.
some notable quotes
Again, I’m talking about this to show a pattern of behavior. Mullenweg’s abuse of power, his need for control, his paranoia, his oversized sense of importance and victimhood – none of that is new.
Matt Mullenweg is a man in dire need of consequences. Not just on behalf of his company and employees, who, thanks to Mullenweg, have been dealt a trust and reputational blow from which I’m genuinely unsure they can recover. Not just for members of the WordPress community, many of whom have built their livelihoods around what appears to have been an empty promise told purely for Mullenweg’s enrichment. He desperately needs consequences, because I don’t think he’s capable of voluntarily course-correcting at this point.

Hex Positive, Ep. 042 - Extended Warren Tea with Jenn the Ouija Girl and Lorelei Rivers
Now available on your favorite podcast app!
Happy New Year, witches! While we’re recovering from the mad rush of the holiday season, I’m sitting down with returning friend of the show Jenn the Ouija Girl and new pal from the tumblrverse Lorelei Rivers to both drink AND the spill the tea on those ghost-hunting grifters we all love to despise, Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Discussions about the careers and rhetoric of the Warrens make the rounds regularly in discussions about the paranormal among members of the witchcraft community. But who were the Warrens? Why do they inspire such ire even as the Conjuring franchise gains steam? How much of what we think we know about the supernatural comes from them? And why is it important to recognize – and refute – their rhetoric when we encounter it?
The Critical Thinking Witch Collect will be having a free virtual brew January 20th! Join me and Julie Bloomfield as we discuss glamours and self image. Sign up on their website: http://www.criticalthinkingwitches.com.

End of September Update
Just as a heads up, I'll be closing my commissions after the first week of October (06/10/2024) just so I can focus on other projects! If you'd like to order a bug from me or get any of my other regular commissions now's a good time to do so!
(Bugstyle | Regular Comms)
I made a really brief post on twitter about what I'm up to but since tumblr supports more text I'll just go into more depth on what projects I'm working on at the moment and general life updates!
I used to write blog posts on wordpress for school and it's just hilarious that I stopped doing that considering it feels like I was born to blog!
In general, I've been trying to crawl out of this very odd mood swing-y state I've been in for the past year. I've been semi-public about it but I graduated with a degree in animation same time last year and have sort of been recovering from the absolute burn out of that as well as watching the animation industry essentially collapse just as I left college.
I'm hoping to get into UI/UX design this coming October and try to piece what little control I have of my life back together. I don't really know what I'm doing to be honest and it feels like I'm just pawing in the dark with a lot of this stuff.
In lighter news I've been trying to get into something I've always wanted to for years which is comics! I'm not sure how much I can speak about it at the moment but I just got into an anthology which is very exciting.
I applied to shortbox last year but didn't get in :( but fingers crossed I'll get in next year! On a related note I've made a Cara profile which I'm using as a comics portfolio and archive.
--
Those of you who've been following me for years know that I've had a webcomic project called, Happenstance (which I've restarted endlessly for about 10 years at this point). While I don't really have a concrete update of that for you guys I will say that the story is more or less fixed and whatever version of it I have now is most likely the version I'll proceed with in the future.
I did try to get the ball rolling with this at the start of the year with a pilot comic but it made me so miserable to work on it I abandoned it and started making an unrelated zine instead haha
I do have plans on finishing this eventually and it'll be up on my itch.io and gumroad like everything else!
Speaking of the zine, I'd just like to thank everyone who purchased Cute Thing! I think for my first independent book project it did pretty well! It was incredibly embarrassing and nerve wrecking to promote it but I'm glad I did it.
I don't know why there's an 18+ warning on this considering this zine is pretty tame.
I guess it also helped that that stupid ass diary comic i made blew up at the same time so I got to shill my wares in relation to it. Even though I think it gave me some kind of psychological damage but every time i gain minor internet fame i shrink back into my shell anyway, this is just the first time i really felt so much.. vitriol from randos lol.
It's just hilarious it overlapped with whatever guilty gear obsession I had at the time as well. Thank you to everyone who stuck around and uh.. sorry! I walk wherever the wind takes me and it's frequently towards my own characters.
But! Speaking of Guilty Gear, I am working on an Abacelsus zine I briefly talked about on twitter a couple months back. The title is sort of pending at the moment and while I did say it might be free as a digital download, I'm probably going to charge a couple of dollars because of how much effort I'm putting into this.
On the plus side that means I'll probably be putting more effort into it! I'm aiming for 24 interior pages of stuff and hoping to release a digital version of it by Halloween 2024!
I'm trying to work on more prints and stickers for conventions as well and I never posted about my convention escapades here all too much but you can check out this instagram post for what I had up the last time I boothed!
That's kind of all for the stuff I'd like to get done within this year but other projects that I'd like to aim to get done by 2025 is a continuation of my Cute Thing zine that I'm aiming to collate by Valentines Day, hehe how romantic.
There's nothing terribly concrete for that at the moment but I do know I want it to have more pages than Cute Thing. It's called My Boy and yes it's named after another Car Seat Headrest song.
I've got a lot of irons in the fire and another iron is that I'm also planning a 4-panel comic series for my band characters that I've posted some pilots about before!
Pretty messy planning but most of my long form stuff looks like this.
A 4-panel comic series is just less intimidating than a fully coloured webcomic series (Happenstance) that I know will be finished decades later. I've also seen a lot of webcomic artists I've beloved just.. abandon their years long project and it's kind of scary to me that will definitely happen to me!!!
--
The long and short of it is that I've got a lot of projects and a majority of it is not making me any money. I'm extremely lucky to be surrounded by people that support my work but it gets hard to just do all of this by yourself with no guarantee that it'll go anywhere.
Patreon's a beast I've tried to tackle but it's kind of an ass of a website to use so I'll probably try to use ko-fi a bit more. I've kind of never really liked the subscription model and really do prefer to launch curated PDFs of my work every few months, but again I'm really just clawing at the dark and grasping at anything I can.
Let's wrap up this long post by mentioning that I might want to give streaming a shot! I used to stream a little when I was a teenager but I'd like to give it another go!
I don't think I'm going to have a dedicated persona or vtuber avatar but a small little png-tuber would be frankly hilarious. Maybe something casual to start of with, it gets pretty lonely spending everyday working on images alone.
--
Thank you for reading! It's an extremely long post to all but say that I'm scared but working on projects still! If you'd like to support me, here's my ko-fi page and while I'm working on getting more stuff on there here's my itchi.io & gumroad as well.
As I mentioned before I'm closing my commissions on the 6th of October to work on my Abacelsus zine so if you'd like to get a bug or any of my regular style commissions now's a good time to do so!
(Bugstyle | Regular Comms)
I'm hoping to make more update posts like these in the future and not psyche myself out every time because they're really good for me to collect my incredibly jumbled thoughts. Thanks again to everyone who's followed, supported or even just looked at my stuff it really means the world.
If you have any questions or just generally want to talk to me about my characters, my DMs and askbox is always open! Any professional enquires can be shot towards me email as well: [email protected]
XOXO, Stay weird!
-Eliot :)

SO-31: And We're Back!
If there's a lot of engagement on this, this post is liable to get real long, beware before you expand.
No art, but I am working on it and I will add it retroactively. I hope.
Welcome to the Engagement Lounge, for April Fool (260|31) an instalment! Short comments can go in the replies, but there's a 475 character limit. Longer ones will need a reblog. Remember to @asksoldieron if you're reblogging someone else's reblog, so I can see it too!
Okay! WordPress's latest updates have given me the power to do simple things I should've been able to do years ago without a plugin - for example, freezing the backgrounds. I HAD TO REFORMAT EVERYTHING due to missing style options FINALLY being available in the templates. I may have broken some stuff trying to fix it, let me know.
And we're doing the fascism now, I guess? IRL? I mean, I'm not, but I'm definitely hearing a lot of voices ready to slide into denial or be oppressed. Like, because that's the rules. Just hand the obvious shrieking fascist all the toys and shake his hand, because anything else would be bad for democracy. I honestly did not expect that to be the story. Like, from Biden and the establishment, OK. They never believed democracy as really in danger in the first place. But I'm also seeing it from the media and individuals who are left-of-centre, politically. That shit's fucked.
I'm not certain how to amplify my assertion that the shit is fucked, and my fictionalized methods for coping with it, but the sporadic nature of the updates needs to stop. You're not gonna remember what's going on and you're gonna miss stuff!
I may need another break when this six is done, just so I can get a head start on everything I've been putting off and stop taking all these breaks. I am working on a new way of illustrating, but my eyes are also improving. I was told I'd have a year's recovery at most. I appear to still be recovering. My blurry vision isn't as bad as that sheet I rendered a few months back, I can compare. I have started driving again - short distances, no highways yet. I want to draw, but I'm not sure if I should wait and see if my eyes improve enough to give me more options, or how long I would be waiting in that case. (I definitely need to collage less. The Public Domain is infested with AI images and I can't always tell them on sight anymore. I'm not even going to be able to avoid AI by cutting up magazines like I used to, or by buying stock images. WTF?)
But, in the meantime, you get a text-based six pack! And David's back! Yaaay?
Well, I like him. Everyone in the story is more ambivalent. It is April 1st, in-universe, so maybe they'll forgive him his little prank. That's him pretending to be Erik as soon as he spins around in the chair the second time - his language is a little more sloppy than the real Erik, he can't help making fun of the kid, but it's subtle.
I will eventually get you the three versions of David's backstory, all of which have elements of the "true" one. Erik knows what really happened already - it's pretty bad. David prefers his illusions.
Did I break the screenwriting rules and have the good guys fail to save the cat? Well, you'll have to wait a while to see. I thought they'd be home by now, but there's a whole world out there to explore. It took way more words to do it any justice.

⚠️ UPDATE TO ANYONE FOLLOWING OR KEEPING UP WITH THE SEARCH FOR THE LOST ADV SGT FROG DUB ⚠️
Update 1: Discotek has rescently recovered the lost test dub for the Funimation dub.
Update 2: in a 2007 blogspot from the website Animation World Network cataloging the year's Comic Con, there is mention that the ADV Sgt Frog dub pilot was shown to the audience. It's specifically said to have been the Nickeloden dub but there's no confirmation to these claims as of yet. If anyone has footage of that year's ADV panel, please feel free to post it online. Here's the snippet of the article in question with a link to the following post linked below for those who are interested.

Update 3: There is also a picture sourced from Wordpress implying some information and possible promotion for ADV's SGT Frog might have been shown off at Otakon 2007, so this could also be something to look into:

Worse Options: Trusted Assets, Part 2
Characters: Juan de Riva; Elek Tavor; Krem and the Chargers Words: 1310 Summary: Elek defuses the rising tensions and comes to Juan's defense. Juan realizes he's been paying attention more than they gave him credit for. Notes: Am I ashamed of this banner? Yes. Did I giggle the entire time making it? Is everything I write finding a character I love then having Juan fight them? Yes.
“Ah, Krem,” Elek interjected again. “Maybe let this one go. You know how Crows are. They think you’re in the way once and they drag you halfway across the Imperium. I don’t want to see what happens if they think they’re delayed twice.” “Sorry, did you say Crows?” “Oh, well there’s your confusion!” He turned to Juan, who was stewing in their spot. “I guess that’s why you say it every fifteen minutes, otherwise people forget.”

The fire was rekindled. One human had recovered from a knockout serum while the elf was on the mend from a mild poisoning. The six of them sat around the crackling flames in a long, awkward silence as they waited for the two casualties to right themselves.
When Juan noticed them move and start to converse, they finally spoke up. “So who the fuck are you again?”
“We’re with the Inquisition.”
Elek and Juan looked at each other and shrugged. Juan noted to Elek without lowering their voice, “They look like a mercenary group but that sounds like some Southern Chantry bullshit.”
“Wait. I think one of my guys heard the Shadow Dragons talking about them.”
“You’re spying on those martyrs? Feels rude,” Juan snickered.
“Well, they’re spying on us, so fair play.”
“We’re not with the Chantry,” their leader interrupted. “We’re a smaller organization that keeps tabs on the threats to Southern Thedas.”
“That is literally what I said,” Juan pointed out. “A mercenary group with Southern Chantry bullshit. What are you doing here? You’re a bit far from home.”
“We’re running down a group of Venatori who were smuggling red lyrium across the Free Marches.”
“Uh huh, and they’re where?”
“Oh. We got’m. Honestly, we were on our way back and ran into you. Thought you were stragglers.”
“You thought an elf and a human camping out in the open were Venatori? Are you bad at your job or were we just lucky?”
“We already caught a few.”
“Yeah I use that excuse too when I can’t perform,” Juan drawled.
The human looked to Elek, “What’s his problem?”
“Their problem is that they don’t take criticism well, especially from Humans. Trust me. What’s your name, friend?”
“You can call me Krem.”
“I’m Elek and this is Juan. We’re hunting Venatori too, and I suspect they’re worried that hunting yours muddied the trail of ours.”
“They really are all over the place up here, aren’t they? Sorry then. Genuinely our mistake. Though given everything, it looks like it cut out even.”
“The hell it did, I’m down an antidote. I mix them myself and I won’t have the time or materials anytime soon to make another,” Juan snarled.
The poisoned woman cursed, only to have Juan growl back in kind.
“You poisoned her,” Krem pointed out. “That’s even.”
“Ah, Krem,” Elek interjected again. “Maybe let this one go. You know how Crows are. They think you’re in the way once and they drag you halfway across the Imperium. I don’t want to see what happens if they think they’re delayed twice.”
“Sorry, did you say Crows?”
“Oh, well there’s your confusion!” He turned to Juan, who was stewing in their spot. “I guess that’s why you say it every fifteen minutes, otherwise people forget.”
Juan huffed, “I’ve been trying to tell you.”
“As in the Antivan Crows? What are the Crows doing here?”
“Hunting Venatori!” Juan snapped at him. “I’m this close to tacking your little band of interlopers on for free!”
“Juan, it’s fine,” Elek said lowly. “Let these Southerners get back to where they’re going and we can do the same. It’s not as if we’re delayed any more than we were. And this way, if animals or monsters come out of the trees, we can just outrun them and let the monsters have them.”
They just smiled slightly, “Alright, smooth talker. Have it your way. But the minute the sun comes up, we’re putting as much distance between us and them as possible.”
“Obviously.”
They smirked and whispered into his ear, ignoring that they now had an audience with them. “Just remember to hold on.”
“Is that where you get your practice?”
“Of course, and you haven’t seen half the tricks I can do while riding.”
“You’re such a fucking tease, Juan,” Elek fell on his back laughing. “Where’s the wine? You’re making the Chantry Choir over there uncomfortable.”
Even if he wanted to sleep in, it was difficult with the sound of four mercenaries moving around. Apparently they had the same idea, putting as much distance between the two groups before it came to blows again. Elek moved to sit up only to get pulled back down. The elf had one arm around his torso and another snaked around his shoulder. “What the hell is going on… Juan?”
There wasn’t an answer, just light snoring and a tighter grip.
“Ow, ow, okay. Juan. Juan, get up.”
The snores turned to growls and their muscles tightened. Elek could feel the heart rate start to race against his chest. When he saw lightning start to arc down the elf’s back, he started to felt his own panic start to creep in. “Juan!”
“What?!” Juan growled and opened their eyes. They looked down, seeing that they had somehow tangled up with him and quickly let him go. “Right. Can’t have that.”
“Juan,” Elek caught his breath and sat up, “I was trying not to get struck by your lightning.”
“Oh. Sorry. Happens sometimes when I get up. Usually when I’m alone.”
“Trouble in paradise?” Krem asked as he approached, the rest of his party finishing up with their preparations.
“The horses,” Elek interjected before Juan could round on him. A heated huff escaped the elf before they took their leave from them. Elek stood up and stretched. “You sure take a lot of chances, Mercenary.”
“Mercenary? I thought we were on a first name basis, Elek.”
Elek just smiled and let it go. “Where are you headed exactly?”
“South to Orlais by way of Nevarra. You?”
“Arlathan. Just making sure we don’t cross paths again.”
“Not friends then?”
“Well. They’re in a bit of a mood. I think the distance will do everyone good.”
“Damn shame.”
He smirked. “Isn’t it? Maybe next time you should check your work before you corner the wrong people.”
“Fair advice,” Krem replied with the same passive tone.
Juan was riding next to Elek in silence for nearly an hour as they made their way far from the camp and their Inquisition annoyances. They would have to look them up whenever they got back to Treviso. This morning, they only had to nudge Elek a few times to keep him upright on his horse. “You’re getting better.”
Elek looked over, managing not to topple over in the process. “Thanks. You said it’s good practice.”
“Maybe we can test it out tonight.”
“You keep saying that.”
Juan chuckled. “Yeah, I’ll make good on it. Promise.”
“Tease,” Elek laughed.
“I mean it. Thanks for the assist with those guys.”
“It’s nothing. You had them right. Absolutely stank of Southern Chantry.”
“Yeah, I don’t care about that so long as they aren’t here for me. You could have used them to get back to Minrathous. And you didn’t have to stick up for me or correct them.”
“It wouldn’t have gone well for either of us if I said I was a hostage. Even if they believed me, can you imagine getting marched back to the Threads by some Chantry choir boy? What it would do to my credibility?”
“I know I would die from embarrassment alone. You know, before the Crows killed me.”
“See? It’s the smart play. As far as the other thing—”
“How did you know?”
“You never refer to yourself one way or another and you, my friend, talk a lot about yourself. Took a shot in the dark.”
Juan laughed. It was likely the first real one he had heard since they showed up in Elek’s parlor. “You’re sharp.”
“Have to be. The Threads could use you, you know, if you ever needed other employment.”
“I’m good where I am. But I can be convinced to take some work under the table if you need it.”
Elek grinned. “I don’t think we’re talking about the same thing anymore.”
“We could be.”

Why Irish Businesses Should Always Maintain Their Websites
Since so much is pulled up online, your website may be the first interaction a customer has with you. Having a good-looking website can separate businesses in Limerick, Galway and even Dublin from rivals, allowing them to attract new customers.
We have assisted many Irish businesses and what we notice most is that keeping your website up to date helps maintain your online reputation and promotes growth in the future.
In the following sections, we will focus on why maintaining your website is important for your business.
1. First Impressions Matter
You would make sure the area near your store was tidy, fresh and not damaged. What is the point of doing it again in the cyber world?
Most of the time, a potential customer’s first contact with you happens when they visit your site. If the site takes a long time to open, links do not work, the information is old or the appearance is outdated, it gives a feeling that nobody cares. This scares off visitors and weakens your reputation.
If you regularly look after your website, it will continue to be fresh and serve its purpose, making people trust it and enjoy it.
2. Security Should Always Be Considered from the Beginning
More organizations are under cyber attacks and even small businesses are being targeted. Almost all the time, WordPress, Joomla, Magento and other content management systems make security updates to guard against new risks.
If you do not maintaining of your site:
Your customer details could be taken by fraudsters.
A search engine may blacklist your website.
Our maintenance services at Flo Web Design include regular security audits, updates for plugins and malware scans to give you a worry-free website and protect your visitors.
3. SEO depends on regular website maintenance
Google and other search engines prefer websites that get updated and maintained frequently. If a site is slow, features old information or isn’t accessible on mobile, it will be given a lower ranking by search engines.
Keeping your website updated makes it better:
How fast web pages are loading
Mobile responsiveness
Metadata and organized data
Dealing with broken links
Content freshness
As a result, your website becomes more visible to search engines, it gains higher positions and gets more traffic.
4. Improve the way users interact with the application
Website users today want sites that are easy to use and quick to respond. Anything that makes the site slow such as images that don’t load or ancient navigation, will lead them to leave.
Maintaining the website often helps keep:
All the links and pages are accessible.
Pictures and videos are displayed without any errors.
Checkout, buttons and forms work efficiently.
Updates are made to give the program a new look.
A seamless experience for users will make them more likely to stay and possibly become paying customers.
5. Making Sure Your Content is Up-to-Date
Information about companies can vary—such as their prices, services, working hours, contact details, special deals, employees and similar elements. If the changes aren’t reflected on your website, it confuses your customers and decreases trust.
If your site is updated, you demonstrate that your business is lively and interested in its customers.
Our team at Flo Web Design ensures that Irish companies update their content, update their blogs and remove any old materials from their website.
6. This involves backing up and recovering your data
Website crashes can happen for reasons such as plugin conflicts, issues with the server, hacking or making a mistake while deleting something important. If you don’t back up your files often, you could lose everything you have worked on for a long time.
With our maintenance package, your site is backed up automatically, making it easy and quick to restore it and continue your business.
7. The standards of both Compliance and Performance
All Irish businesses should follow the rules set out by GDPR. Failing to keep your contact forms and cookie policies current could result in serious fines and legal issues.
Maintenance done regularly will help your website:
Follows the necessary regulations for data protection.
The website is fast to load on every type of device.
Still works properly after OS and browser updates.
It’s more important to establish trust and eliminate risks than just fulfilling the requirements.
8. Making Your Website Resistant to Future Changes
Technology keeps advancing all the time. Plugins become old, browsers are updated and people’s needs change.
When you maintain your website regularly, it grows with your business. If you add new features, boost e-commerce or update the design, frequent upgrades help you not have to begin again.
How a Retailer in Ireland Benefited from Website Maintenance
A shop in Cork contacted us for help because their site was down for two days. Since the developers failed to update the site’s plugins or security measures for more than a year, the site was breached.
We recovered the site from our backup, removed the malware, updated the plugins and applied the best security measures. By opting for a monthly service package, they haven’t experienced any downtime and now get 35% more online inquiries due to faster performance.
Take action before a problem arises. Keeping your computer well-maintained is like having insurance.
So, What Services Are Part of Website Maintenance with Flo Web Design?
Our services include packages that are customized for businesses in Ireland.
Keeping an eye on security
Ensuring a fast website
Links on your website are checked for breaks
Backup & recovery
Updates on GDPR compliance
Updates to the content (upon request)
We’ll take care of your website’s back end, helping it run as efficiently as you run your business.
Conclusion
Just as you maintain a car regularly, you should keep your website up to date. This rule also applies to the internet. A secure, effective and successful website depends on regular upkeep.
Your website’s updates, security and page issues are all taken care of by Flo Web Design. We handle all the necessary jobs, allowing you to focus on your business.
