in the name of the moon...something something...whatever
(an Obiyuki Sailor Moon AU)
my second written obiyuki bingo entry! please forgive the mad cheesiness, I do really appreciate sailor moon but I find it mad cheesy. also the idea of obi wearing sparkly shorts was too funny to not use. enjoy!
________
Obi stared at the glossy black cat sitting on his bed and started to laugh.
He couldn’t help it. Then he looked down at himself and laughed even harder. By the time Luna could get him to calm down, calling his name in an increasingly exasperated tone, Obi was lying on the floor like a star, chest heaving with suppressed chuckles.
“This is serious,” said the cat, tail flicking with annoyance. “The magic I’ve bestowed upon you is not to be taken lightly! You are destined to save Earth from the forces of evil, Obi, and I’d like it if you had a little more gravity.”
“Okay.” Obi crossed his legs and sat up, folding his hands primly. “Consider me grave as a full moon. But you’ve got to admit, Luna, the outfit is ridiculous.”
Luna humphed. “The Moon Guardian outfit has been passed down through generations—”
“Of women, obviously, because there are too many sparkles on here for my comfort—”
“The moon shines brightly in the night sky and the guardian reflects that light—”
“The moon also goes in phases; can’t I be more of a new-moon sort of guardian? I’m more of a stealth sort of guy.” Obi raised his hands, pretending to creep. The effect was very much ruined by the white sailor shirt and shiny blue shorts.
Luna sighed. “We can talk about the outfit. But listen to me first. Your first quest will be to find your fellow Sailor Guardians. They are the guardians of other celestial bodies and will help you in your ultimate journey.”
Obi was doing his best not to yawn. “Ultimate journey?”
Luna’s eyes sparkled. “You are to find the legendary artifact, the Silver Crystal. With its supreme power—and the combined power of the Sailor Guardians—you will be able to defeat the forces of evil once and for all, and bring balance to the universe.”
“Um…Luna, look, I hear what you’re saying, but I’m really not the saving-the-world type…”
“Which is why you’ll need my training,” Luna continued patiently. “This is your destiny, Obi.”
Obi looked down at his sparkling uniform, unconvinced.
“Okay. So—I just need to find other…Sailor Guardians…and then the Crystal?”
“Yes. So you’ll do it?”
“Do I have a choice?”
“No!” Luna clapped her paws. “Also, you’re late for school.”
“Why,” Obi whined, leaping to his feet. “You knew.”
“The more you complain, the later you’ll be!”
Obi prayed to the god of sparkly princess powers to do some very nasty things to Luna as he threw a hoodie over the sailor shirt and skidded out the door. Apparently the ability to run in platforms came free with the new guardianship.
____
Obi was grateful that the magic clothes had faded halfway on the way to school, especially since the platforms were hurting his feet. There had been no sign of Luna during the day, and while he hadn’t really been looking, no sign of any Sailor Guardians, either.
Are they going to be classmates or something?
There had been a very tall boy with turquoise hair who’d stared at him for the entirety of second period, but he’d chalked that up to boredom.
There had also been that absolutely enchanting red-haired girl he'd nearly knocked over on his way to school who had accepted his eight apologies with the most adorable smile he'd ever seen, and smelled like flowers, and had the nicest hands, and he needed to get a life.
The pin Luna had given him rested securely in the inside pocket of his hoodie and had stayed cool all day, despite being up against his skin. School was now over and he’d holed up in his favorite tea shop with the massive pile of homework he’d accumulated. Jasmine tea steamed comfortingly in the cup to his right and a massive anpan sat next to it. Obi was reaching for the sweet bun, ready to sink his teeth into it, and then the entire tea shop exploded outward and Obi found himself flailing through the air, surrounded by shards of broken glass. He landed unhurt several feet away from the smoking scene and got to his feet, blinking in shock. There was a gaping hole in the side of the tea shop and despite the commotion no one was running to help, or screaming? In fact, the entirety of the street was empty.
It was then that Obi remembered there was a parade in the town square and they’d blocked off this road. That explained the distinct lack of people on the street when he’d walked over after school. And the cheering, music, and shouting from two streets over. There was no way anyone had heard anything over the celebration.
Obi thought that was weirdly convenient of the universe.
From the wreckage of the shop stepped a beautiful lady with short reddish hair, holding her hands at her sides in a dramatic sort of supervillain pose. She’d been behind the counter about five minutes ago and the more Obi looked at her, the less human she became. The last time he’d checked women didn’t have bulging yellow eyes and lizard-like skin on the daily.
“Moon Guardian,” she hissed, “I am Jadeite. We meet at last.”
Obi shuffled into a weak sort of fighting pose, raising his fists, more confused than anything else. He was okay with fighting as a whole and figured this was a kind of boss fight, since he’d just been declared savior of the universe (or whatever) but he hadn’t expected anything this soon. He hadn’t even had a mastering-his-powers montage yet. Had Luna even mentioned any sort of training?
“Yeah, that’s—me. Unfortunately. You’ve heard of me? I just got the job this morning.”
Jadeite laughed, the sound like dark water over sharp rocks. “You are funny, little guardian.” Then her hands started to glow a menacing green. “Too bad I have to kill you.”
Obi would have laughed if that green energy didn’t look so deadly. The brooch tucked into his jacket began to burn, so he took it out, holding it in his palm. It was also glowing.
“Obi!”
Luna was behind him, perched on a wall.
“What?” Obi held up the brooch. “Is this you?”
“Excuse me,” said Jadeite, dropping her hands a little. “I’m on the clock.”
“You have to transform!” Luna pointed a paw at the brooch.
“Okay, fine. You did it last time. Go ahead.”
“No, it has to be you! You have to yell Moon Prism Power, Makeup! That’s your transformation phrase!”
“Okay, are you serious? How long has it been since you’ve had a male guardian?”
A blast of green energy sang by Obi’s ear, smashing into the wall.
“Moonprismpowermakeup!” Obi screeched.
The brooch hummed, shooting out bursts of white light. Obi felt his feet leave the ground and he began to spin, the way he had in his bedroom earlier that day. But this felt different. More powerful.
It also took about twenty seconds longer.
“I am Handsome Guardian Sailor Moon,” Obi yelled, posed dramatically in the air, hair swirling around his ears.
Jadeite looked a little dumbstruck.
Obi pointed the staff that had magically appeared in his hands at her. “In the name of the Moon,” he intoned, voice echoing, “I will punish you!”
A blast of energy shot from the staff and sent Jadeite spinning backwards about 20 feet, into the rubble of the tea shop. Obi flew after her, laser-focused, and found her smoking body in a heap on top of what used to be the front counter.
He landed, gently, and felt the focus fade from his brain.
“You did it!” Luna leapt atop a turned-over chair, smiling the way cats do. “See? This is your destiny!”
“I guess—I guess so.” Gently, Obi turned the staff over in his hands, examining the moon crest on top of it, the ornate carvings on the handle. He did feel different.
“Seriously, though, I could lose the shorts, I’m getting a wedgie.”
Luna rolled her eyes—then she was pointing behind Obi, screaming something he couldn’t hear because there was a terrible pain in his back and he was skidding across the damaged floor—
Jadeite was a horrible twisted thing, leaning over him, blackened and grinning, hands charging with deadly green—
A single rose hit the floor in front of her feet and stuck.
Jadeite paused, straightened a little, looked up in confusion. Obi, dazed and aching, looked too, towards the entrance of the shop—
Silhouetted in the sunlight stood a lanky figure dressed in a tasteful black suit and flowing cape with red lining. A white mask covered the top half of her face.
She looked utterly calm as she threw another glinting rose, piercing Jadeite in the chest. The monster screamed and collapsed, finally lying still.
Obi blinked, hard.
“What.”
The girl stepped into the rubble, smiling mysteriously at Obi. Her hair was as red as the lining of her cape.
“You did well, Sailor Moon,” she said.
“Um,” Obi muttered intelligently, intoxicated by the sudden scent of flowers. “Who are you?”
“My name is--Tuxedo Mask.” The girl lost a little of her composure when she said the name, like she wasn’t quite used to saying it.
Obi very politely chose not to say no, duh.
“We will meet again.” Lifting her cape, Tuxedo Mask disappeared in a swirl of material.
Obi stared after her.
“Luna, please tell me one of the signs of concussion isn’t seeing pretty girls who throw roses at people.”
“It’s not,” griped Luna, glaring after the girl. “I didn’t like that.”
“Speak for yourself.” It hurt to stand, but Obi managed, despite having to get up on three-inch platforms.
“She can’t be trusted, Obi, weird people who pop in out of nowhere are suspicious!”
“She didn’t seem evil to me. She literally just saved me from being killed.”
“Tuxedo Mask,” mused the cat. “I’ll have to keep an eye out for her.”
“Me too,” said Obi, and he meant it.

Have a doodle of mama Leech because I still can't decide how I want her to look!! ✨
Also have some headcanons I created for her just because:
Name: Viridia Leech Age: younger than she looks Height: ~7ft in human form, ~14ft in mermaid form Likes: her family, negotiating, high fashion, spontaneity Dislikes: shrimp Appearance: Elegant, charismatic, but by no means delicate, she is a gorgeous mermaid with olive eyes and long, wavy teal hair. As a human, she stands just under a half foot or so from her husband and prefers to wear long dresses, pant suits, and sun hats when on land. Her nails are always sharp and lacquered, her lips painted red, and on both ears is a pair of studded sturgeon scale earrings to match with her boys. Personality: Described as a bit of a worrier, Jade and Floyd's mother keeps in contact with her sons every day while they are on land. Her messages are often brief (except on birthdays) and in her refined manner of speaking, she even refers to her sons as "Mr. Jade" and "Mr. Floyd" (for security purposes). It is clear she misses Jade and Floyd dearly and frets over their well-being, though of course she has every reason to given the nature of their family's work. To Viridia, her children are her "treasures"; every bit as rare and precious as the gems they were named after (fluorite and jadeite, respectively). There is absolutely nothing she won't do to ensure not only their survival, but also their happiness. She notoriously spoils them with luxurious gifts, expensive clothes, and fancy accessories the likes of which most merfolk never see. To that end, Viridia is a fiercely protective mother and while she trusts her son's abilities, she won't hesitate to rip apart anyone who dares to lay a hand on them.
Similar to Jade, Viridia's kind exterior belies her manipulative nature; she is excellent in communicating and connecting with people and therefore adept at learning their weaknesses. Sterling, her husband, often relies on his wife's approachable demeanor when handling his most complicated clients. Patient and poised, she acts with the precision of a surgical razor to get what she wants.

hi I am testing out whether or not I'm shadowbanned. however I don't want to spam the main tags w irrelevant posts so I am offering this snippet from art of the bedchamber part 2 \o/
tw soggy sfw danheng (pre-1.2)
Tumblr media
Dan Heng remembers when he assumed his human form for the first time.
It is a difficult scene to forget: the wreckage of an IPC ship, engulfed in the red glow of emergency lights. A robotic voice signalling the steady loss of hair: Attention, attention, the system had blared in a pleasant, sunny tone. Attention to all passengers. The Altair has experienced irreparable damage to its seal. There are 120 minutes until complete oxygen depletion. Please make your way to the lifepods. The Vega is on standby to receive all survivors. Attention, attention.
The PA system said nothing of the vengeful ghost who’d wrought all that destruction—both upon the ship and its passengers. Probably everyone who could have made such an announcement was dead.
Yinyue Jun, the wraith had called him, mara-poisoned eyes shining as his gaze fell upon his features. The same features that Dan Heng was now studying in the broken mirror, fragmented by cracks running through the glass. Dan Feng. Sinner. You’ll never escape your karmic debt. You'll never escape your punishment. I’ll find you whenever you are, no matter how far you run. Even if I forget everything else of my mortal life, I'll never forget your face.
His face.
Dan Heng had never seen much of his own face in the darkness of the Shackling Prison, but he'd been strung up and whipped for its likeness. Punished for whom it once belonged. This is simply the weight of your karma from your past life. It was you who buried your beloved. It was you who nearly destroyed your homeworld. It was your fault, Dan Feng, that she died. How could you do that to her? To your friend? High Elder, do you know how the Vidyadhara suffered for your pride? It is you who is at fault for the deaths of so many of our kin. You, you, you. This is what you deserve, Yinyue Jun, for your arrogance. it matters not if it was your past life, it matters not if you're now a child, you have no right to shed those tears—
Seeing his face—Yinyue Jun's face—for the first time then, with its gleaming irises, its jadeite horns, its otherworldly glow—
—Dan Heng hated it.
His features were a curse, one not unlike the powers he'd inherited. You should never be allowed to roam free, Dan Feng. You cannot be trusted with the powers of a High Elder. Not with how you lost control in your last life.
You are a danger to us all, Dan Feng.
This is what you deserve.
Dan Heng was eager to sculpt a new face for himself. Relieved to lock away his powers. Anxious to paint into existence a dream he’d long imagined as a child. The dull green of his eyes, the short clip of his dark hair, the only hint to his past a cinnabar stroke along his lashline—these were features he’d long envisioned for himself growing up in the Prison, devouring countless novels about worldly life on the Luofu. All those stories about human men and women, leading quaint and romantic lives unfettered by destiny. All those tales about mortals far removed from his existence as a disgraced High Elder.
Looking like this—plain, unassuming, without the marks of a Vidyadhara elder—Dan Heng could pretend to be one of those mortals. He could act like he'd never felt the bite of shackles in his wrists. Like he'd never felt the burn of a welt slashed across his back. Like he'd grown up in sunlight, not the darkness of a cell.
He could act as if he were in control of his own destiny.
It would be impossible, of course, to truly entertain these delusions. But he still likes to imagine it every now and then—particularly with you, nowadays. He thinks of it when he stares at your reflections in the mirror in the early morning, brushing your teeth side by side. He thinks of it when sees the photos that March 7th has taken of the two of you, pinned up conspicuously on your bedroom walls. He especially thinks of it when he catches himself looking at the selfies that you always insist on taking with him—which is very often, given how you like to snatch his phone and update his lockscreen with them.
To the uninformed eye, all of these scenes make the two of you look like a simple, human couple—one right out of a novel.
Dan Heng thinks about this most often: a normal life with you, in which he is not burdened with the title of Yinyue Jun. In which there is no chance of staining your future with the transgressions of his past. In which you’ve never once been hurt because of his relation to Dan Feng, and where you will never be hurt again.
If paradise is but a dream, he thinks, gazing at the contours of your soft expression, then I wish to sleep forever.

You've poated Jade corn ornaments twice now (maybe more, and I've missed it). Why are they a thing? They seem to be really well done, and I had always viewed Jade as being a gem with cultural significance.

During the Ming and Qing dynasties in China it was popular to carve jade into vegetable- or fruit-shaped ornaments, the most famous artwork being the 翠玉白菜Jadeite Cabbage and 东坡肉形石Dongpo Meat-shaped Stone, 白菜baicai/cabbage is a common carving subject because of its resonance with '菜cài=财cái=wealth' in the Chinese context. Chinese call these ornaments 文玩wenwan in general, meaning fine collectible traditional handicrafts, especially suitable for playing and appreciating in the hand. I feel like the contemporary jade or other gemstone ornaments continues this tradition with further innovation. Young people prefer ornaments made in richer mineral materials and brighter colors (light colors are more popular), and the themes are also diverse, not limited to traditional ones. I guess in young peoples' aesthetic, the jade corn is lovely in shape and roasted corn is a popular street food in china. Other contemporary pieces that young people like to collect include various other shapes, such as jade rabbits, 貔貅pixiu(mythical creature that brings fortune and wards off evil), 龙long(chinese dragon),  calabash, grape, fish, butterfly, crabs, flowers, guanyin, metteyya, the twelve shengxiao, and so on, some more traditional, some more contemporary. It's quite fun.
In addition, the Chinese believe that 玉yù/jade is spiritual(the Chinese word 玉yù actually refers to more than just jade, it can refer to jade-like stones in general but let's put it this way), so the Chinese have the habit of "nurturing jade", meaning that if you wear and play with your jade jewellery/ornaments by hand for a long time (the act of playing with it is called "盘pán"), it will become smoother and accumulate more lustre, bringing you a good energy field in daily life, thus you will have more luck. The Chinese also consider that if the jade ornament has been 开光kāi guāng (blessed by eminent 道士daoshi/daoist priest or blessed by eminent bhiksu or bhikkhunī/buddhist monks or nuns, usually with ceremonial process of chantting/intoning incantations), they will also help to protect you from mishaps and even disasters. Many Chinese women have the habit of wearing jade bracelets or red string weaved jade ornaments (jade bracelets are the type of smooth circular or beads bracelets).

翠玉白菜Jadeite Cabbage and 东坡肉形石Dongpo Meat-shaped Stone are as follows.

It's late when Sanzu's call connects.
His voice doesn't burst onto the speaker this time, doesn't ring out with a clear and tinkly laugh that'll have your blood warming on instinct. It's quiet when he says 'hey pretty thing' and you know he's tired, subdued, exhausted even, that the long days in your absence are catching up to him, even if he'll pretend like the opposite is true.
There is a second of silence, his voice hanging in the air, some three thousand miles away, protected and cushioned by the safety of the end to end encrypted call. You wish it weren't the case, that he wasn't flopping onto a hotel bed so far away, the ache of your distance still so fresh, a clean cut across his lungs that has his chest tightening. He tries, you know this, you sense it in his voice sometimes, on days like today, where the scent of you doesn't linger on his pillows in the way he likes, the spill of your hair between his rough fingers, that he's tired, that he's exhausting with trying in general.
You love him for it anyway, all the effort, all the time, commitment that you're not sure he's ever shown to anyone that wasn't Mikey. Does it give you a sense of pride to be so completely devoted to? To say no would be a lie and you can't pretend you don't enjoy the pearly shine of his jadeite eyes when he bends to press a kiss to the inside of your wrist, the inside of your ankles when they're over his shoulders, long and slow, sensual bites that trail from your calves to your thighs.
'Hi Baby,' you say, and roll over, taking the sheets with you, to his side of the bed where the indent of his body is pressed to the mattress, as if it remembers him just as much as you do. You put your cheek to the pillow, a strong inhale that settles in your lungs, nicotine and leather, gunpowder and metal and the spark of fire that clings to the fabric as eagerly as it clings to his skin. 'I missed you today.'
'I missed you too Pretty thing,' he says, the phone held between his ear and his shoulder as he uncuffs his sleeves, red turning to brown on the now off-white shirt that he tosses somewhere on the other side of the room. He won't say it, but you detect a yawn somewhere in there, a half-hearted sigh that has his shoulder sagging, the milky white of his tantalising chest that deflates with the fatigue leaking from his bones. 'I thought you'd be asleep by now.'
'Mhm, I was going to but I had something I wanted to talk to you about.'
He stiffens, in a way he can't help, and he hates that the tension creeps so easily into his skin, pinpricks of anxiety that have the breath stolen from his lungs. He knows he can't be there, he knows he's where he should be, but it never helps, that the simple fact is that he misses you and it sickens him, has him writhing in his sheets and reaching for his phone to hear you.
He coughs, a sniff that resonates through the encryption of the call. 'Oh yeah? Everything okay?' The shake of his voice is not lost on you and it aches, your hands twitching with the need to touch, to soothe, to run over the sharp edges of him.
'Mhm, yeah it's okay I just- I have a surprise for you. I was going to wait till you got back but-'
'...but?'
Your mouth is heavy, leaden, and your tongue clings to the roof, your teeth sticky and coated with a thin film of apprehension, anxiety, love and need all rolled together. You take a breath, and it feels like you're starving for air, the thin and cloying scent of him still buried in your lungs, your thighs rubbing together with the memory of the taste of him.
'-but it's your birthday so I thought...'
He blinks and a glance at the clock tells him it's gone 12, the clockface illuminated by the splash of white moonlight falling through the window, the sharp and luminous curls of light kissing at his exposed chest where the purple is now fading to yellow on his ivory skin.
'You're really drawing it out aren't you Princess?'
Despite yourself and the obvious tension, you laugh aloud, the sound muffled by your lips to his pillow, your nose to the duvet where the threads hold the leathery smell of him and his chest tightens with the sound, carefree and buttery, light and warm.
'Sorry- sorry, I'm just teasing you Haru.' You take a breath, your eyes fixed on a stray pink hair curling along the pillow, nestled safely between the mattress and the blanket. Then you're exhaling and the knowledge comes easy when you whisper against the receiver, 'hey haru, I think, you're going to be a dad.'
There is a terse silence that stretches then, a long beat of apprehension, broken only by the sound of his breath, the occasional shuffle of you in the bed, a crackle where the reception cuts and creases.
'H-Haru? Are you there?' you whisper, the heady rush and taste of love spilling into your throat.
His voice cracks, splits halfway down the middle and he clears his throat, forcefully, the ache in his stomach climbing along his chest, a hand seized around his heart and squeezing. 'You- you're pregnant?' he says it slowly, as if testing the words, as if they taste foreign to him, thick and heavy and unusual on his tongue.
'I...y-yeah maybe, I think so. I've only taken the test but- we- we can see a Doctor when you come back,' you say, the fabric bunched in your hands, the knowledge of your secret now crashing between you. 'I didn't want to wait.'
'Oh.' There is a lump forming in his throat, a stone that's turning and growing at the back of his tongue and he thinks and wonders if he'll cry, if the knowledge is too much to bear, more than he deserves, with someone he's hardly worth of in the first place. It's heavy, this impending event, the weight of it is zipping through his chest, along the blood in his veins. It feels like pain, like hurt, like a love that aches in his heart.
'Are...you okay? I'm sorry, maybe I should have just wait-'
'Pretty thing?'
'Yeah?'
'I love you.'
It spills out faster than he's able to stop, and it feels good, a little euphoric, a little painful and soothing at the same time when he senses your lips curve into a smile on the other end, a shy and embarrassed 'I love you too Haru,' that has the ends of his lips curving into the beginnings of a smile. There is fear somewhere here, somewhere in his skin, a gravity that tells him he's made a mistake, that this impending event can only mean pain for either of you. No, he doesn't think he has what it takes to be a Father, and yet, the cold and bleak edge of him is a little warmed by the thought.
'I- I'm- we're having a baby...' he says, out loud, a statement and a question tied together, his pupils heavy and sluggish, his head pulsing with a love so big and beautiful that he thinks it might eat him, might pull him by his legs to drown in.
You laugh, uncertainty, love, warmth that feels like honey to him, like the sun on his skin when you say 'y-yeah, yeah we're having a baby Haru.' He hears you sniffle, the scratchy crackle of you standing to find a tissue and then settling back into bed.
But it hurts a little less, and feels a little better when you say 'Happy Birthday Haru.'
And it is.
reblogs appreciated!

Over This Shit
So, you know how I said it was mostly going to be boys and based on my game? I lied. I have no idea what I'm writing. I'm just making it up as I go.
The Beginning
Yanfei didn't know how much longer she could take it.
Her days were happy and peaceful with her job giving her day a little chaos. A normal, fulfilling life is what her and her parents wanted and it was going well.
Until a month ago that is.
Y/n, a traveler who saved Mondstadt from Stormterror and recently took part in the battle against Osial.
They first met when Y/n was speaking to Granny. They went on a whole case for smaragdus jadeite and bonded quite well. At the end a serena teapot was given away and they both went their ways.
Unless they had a case, that's how it should have ended.
The shooting stars lasted almost an entire day, and after that the world got... confusing.
A warmth envelops her body, and a name enters her mind.
Turns out the traveler's real name was Lumine who just introduces herself as Y/n. Reason being that she's basically being controlled by Y/n.
The same Y/n that now has a hold on Yanfei herself.
Yanfei can't understand why Lumine is so okay with it (in fact it seems like she likes it).
Because forcibly being dragged into the red glittering sky while in the middle of court isn't very fun. At least she's not losing time.
She's thankful that Y/n didn't make her a permanent part of the team.
Yanfei was a busy woman after all. With legal work to do, papers to file, rap battles to be won and relationships to be kept up with.
Her annoyance was understandable as you changed day into night.
Again
The judge, jury, everyone, even her client was leaving!
"But the defense hasn't even began!..."
She was usually more composed than that, but this would be the 5th time this week and its only Tuesday.
The judge only gives a nod saying "Yes, but it's night already we can continue the case tomorrow."
Resisting a long-suffering sigh, she left intending on eating her weight in tofu at the Wanmin Restaurant.
Even if the start was hectic, she couldn't deny how the world felt more real after the truth was revealed to her. Even if that was the opposite of this world...
At the beginning Yanfei had zero idea why or how she was dragged into a salmon sky with embers of pyro floating around.
Not being able to move any part of her body was a major part of concern. She dimly wonders if she should have paid more attention to the adepti history.
Nothing she could do about it now, really all she could look at was this...person?
You were cute but being in a rectangle with only a face and some shoulders to be seen would be off-putting to anyone.
You go around her body quietly, getting close before moving back, inspecting her she realizes.
"Yanfei you're really cute."
Yanfei doesn't know how to react to a stranger calling her that but she can't refuse considering her condition. In fact it makes her feel a little bashful.
Peculiar
You smile tiredly as her body starts moving on it's own.
The feel of noctilucous jade was familiar as well as the action of setting it on the scale. Small hums escape her as she does so before the scale disappears.
"The little details like your antler rings and mora accessories suit you nicely."
Yanfei doesn't get embarrassed that easily but you paying such attention to her still makes her feel a bit flushed.
Suddenly she's speaking, "My name is Yanfei, top legal expert in Liyue-"
Her mouth moves as if it has a mind of its own. Sure, this is stuff she would say if she met Y/N under normal standards.
But you were not Y/n. And this was anything but normal!
Her mouth continues to talk about different topics until she says something that didn't quite make sense.
"A client? Very pleased to meet you, here's my card. I'm afraid I can't leave my desk today-"
This wasn't her office but then again it wasn't raining when she spoke earlier but from her first words, she thought you might have been drawing out her thoughts.
"...you came to chat as friends with a legal expert that you've never met before... care to explain?"
But Yanfei met Y/n before, saying she never met them is a direct contradictory.
"Thats strange. I guess they made this in case the player got her before finishing the Liyue quest."
Quest? What quest? Who's 'they'? What players are you talking about?
She doesn't have enough clues to figure out what is going on but someone else does.
You had the power to render her, a half-adepti, immobile and draw out private information from her. Would you force her to forget or keep quiet about it?
She's taken from her thoughts when she's dropped back into her chair. The feeling similar to being scared awake when you fall in your dreams.
Scrambling for the time Yanfei stresses over how long she was stuck in that limbo.
No time passed.
She stares blankly at it with disbelief. Could you control time too?
Her half-eaten breakfast is still hot, the tea hasn't finished boiling either.
Yanfei wants to brush it off as a daydream but the evidence says otherwise. And she was a woman of the law if not anything else.
Y/n was a clear part in this scenario but tracking down the traveler was hard. From the rumors, she might be trying to get to Inazuma right now!
Other than an early morning appointment, Yanfei was surprisingly clear for the day.
After the client left, Yanfei didn't hesitate to go looking for the traveler. Her first stop being the adventures guild to see if she was on a commission.
Climbing up the stairs in haste she looks at the reception desk. An adventurer was expected, not the fatui.
Yet there he was, Tartaglia the 11th of the fatui harbingers.
The fatui didn't have a good reputation being the cause of multiple cases she's gotten ever since they made moves into Liyue. Childe was also blamed for the Osial attack.
Combining that with his already bloodthirsty reputation made his appearance even more suspicious.
It was easy to tell something was off about him. He stood with a blank look and had a fire in him, she could tell it was the same as hers with the only difference being his burned far more brightly.
Did he experience it too?
It was risky to talk to him but she needed answers.
She stretched her arm out and opened her mouth to grab his attention when a light consumed her sight.
Yanfei didn't realize she closed her eyes until she was blinking rapidly to chase away the lingering brightness.
Katheryne and Lan didn't react at all, was it another thing you did to them? In fact that warmth you planted in her felt cold...
Looking back to Tartaglia she was shocked at his disappearance.
Instead Y/n stood in his place.
Sighing Y/n rubbed at her eyes and muttered "I don't think I'll ever get used to that."
Yanfei grinned at the traveler, Y/n saw that brightness too. In fact, the warmth was in Y/n as well!
"Y/n!" Yanfei grabbed the travelers wrist as Y/n turned to look at her.
"You saw that bright light too right? And um you saw that person in the rectangle too?" Loud at first Yanfei quieted down as she finished.
Y/n was shocked, for a long time no one else could see it. What made Yanfei see when even a yaksha and a god couldn't?
"Yeah, you're the first I found you could see it. You probably saw Y/n too right?"
Yanfei tilted her head in confusion, "What are you talking about? You are Y/n... right?"
Y/n(?) shook her head 'no' and gestured Yanfei to follow her as she walked away.
"No, I'm Lumine. I'll explain everything I can in a more private setting."
Staying quiet Yanfei followed Y/- Lumine.
Eventually they arrived at the very last dock, far away enough that no one could overhear. The sun was still high in the sky as they both sat on the dock.
Lumine looked at Yanfei with a serious expression, "The truth is, is that this whole world is a game."
Yanfei could only deadpan.
Lumine launched into a series of explanations starting with the fact that you are that warmth that enters them through 'pulling' which would be the meteor showers that only vision holders could see. To how you can control them and make them stronger through upgrades that Yanfei has never heard of. Pointing out the world's bizarre behavior when you are 'playing'. And how you watch and control them through a screen, the same screen that allows them to see you.
"Okay, I don't want to believe it but let's say I do. What sets us apart from the rest that allows us to see Y/n and know the truth?"
Yanfei didn't want to think about everything done was all for naught when someone could just change it.
How long her father fought for Liyue when it could have been prevented easily.
Cause it was only a game...
Lumine pointed up to the sky as stars began to emerge from the darkening sky.
"It was when all my constellations glowed or activated that I was able to see the truth and see them. Before that my head was hazy and I didn't question all the strange things happening. Are all 6 of your constellations activated?"
Yanfei didn't need to look up at the sky to know the answer. When those shooting stars filled the sky, she briefly noticed her constellation glowing in completion, but she didn't care about power and brushed it off.
Lumine frowned at Yanfei's silence. She already knew the answer to her question, she kept meticulous track after all. She needed to know her rivals allies well after all.
"Yeah, they did. Did that not happen to anyone else? In fact how many of us are there?"
Lumine nodded and spoke, "You're the first that was c6'ed, that's what they call it, and I wanted to check in to see if my theory was right."
Yanfei pursed her lips as she asked the question that had bouncing in her mind since she was first controlled.
"Constellations grant power, since I've been c6'd does that mean they'll force me on their team? It's not like I can refuse or even show that I don't want to..."
Lumine shook her head, "No, they won't"
"What makes you so sure?"
Gazing at the waves Lumine responded, "It isn't cheap to make us stronger and they invested a lot in their current team. Plus, they have have rather specific taste..."
Ignoring the last part Yanfei sighed in relief, being stuck as a random person puppet wasn't ideal. Still how could she ever be sure when you were going to pause their world?
The traveler spoke up again, "I have a few theories at the moment but I'll wait to share until I have more proof. Right now I can only tell you that the time in this world and theirs is different. They say that'll see me tomorrow and disappear for a month. Sometimes later sometimes earlier but they always leave saying 'Goodbye I'll see you tomorrow'. So I don't think they're lying."
"Then we'll have to deal with them for a few weeks then get about a month break?" Yanfei sighed as she imagined being stuck in limbo and slowly forgetting what legal case she was dealing with.
"I'll take what I can get. If that's the last thing you can warn me about then I'll be going. I can already see the line of clients in the morning."
Lumine nodded as she got back to her feet.
Yanfei smiled at the blonde as she spoke, "Thank you for clearing this up. You really are one of a kind. I felt like I was going crazy by myself. Remember if you have any legal trouble in Inazuma I can help you out!"
After that they both went their ways, but Yanfei could tell that Lumine was a little bitter at not being used as much.
Yanfei entered the Wanmin Restaurant and ordered an almond tofu to start off. After all nothing like a sweet treat to melt away the stress of a pausing nightmare week.
As she waited for her food, she watched Xiangling cook and deliver food in its usual fast pace.
Bright and cheery as always Xiangling greeted each customer.
The eyebags didn't escape Yanfei's sight.
Looking closer Yanfei could see Xiangling nodding off before startling awake when another customer comes in.
"Sorry for the wait! Lots of customers have been coming in due to Lantern Rite approaching. Enjoy your food!"
Xiangling still smiled as she set down the plate of tofu. Yanfei didn't know Xiangling personally, she only came for their food really, so she only looked at Xiangling as she thanked her.
The words died in her throat as the world sped up into day.
Again
Xiangling's eye twitched and Yanfei covered her face with her hands as she groaned in despair.
"Um Yanfei right?"
Xiangling looked nervous and up close Yanfei could see that the poor girl was starting to lose it.
"You can see it right? The night turning into day, that's why you are upset."
Yanfei sighed tiredly and nodded. That was all Xiangling needed. She grabbed the half-adepti by the shoulders and got closer.
"Please tell me you know what's going on! I've barely got any sleep these past few weeks. I feel like I'm going crazy since no one else can see it."
Yanfei didn't want to get more involved with you, but she had been wanting to tell someone else about this that wouldn't automatically regard her as crazy. The young girl's touch also revealed the warmth in her.
'I guess we're in this together.' Yanfei shrugged off Xiangling's hands and grabbed her plate of almond tofu.
Walking leisurely to the entrance, Yanfei turned her head slightly to face Xiangling.
"You coming or what?"
Xiangling could cry in happiness, finally answers!
Yanfei was an intimidating lawyer in Liyue. So, she'll either get charged with insanity, collapse from stress and lack of sleep, or get some answers (and a solution if the archons allow it).
All done! Would you believe me if I said that this is only half and I split it due to length and time? I really suck at sad stuff so don't be too mad about it. This is my first time writing genshin characters so tell me if it's too ooc!
Either way Xiangling was done with this bullshit.
Taglist: @ognenniyvolk @i-hate-that-i-love-them
I do want to do a few other characters but I'm just doing the ones that come to mind. Who knows maybe I'll change things up again.
Edit: I can not believe I was dumb and sleep deprived enough that I left the author notes in inside this post. And I spent a hour looking for it too.

For #Feathersday: Some selections from the Kingfisher Headdresses from China exhibition at Art Institute of Chicago showcasing tian-tsui, the traditional Chinese fine art of using the highly prized iridescent blue feathers of regional Kingfisher species (Alcedinidae).
Lots more pieces (including smaller hairpins & earrings) on display at the exhibition, open through May 2023.
Tumblr media
It is also important to note that the demand for feathers for tian-tsui nearly drove kingfishers to extinction in China in the early 20th centry, with the last feather factory closing in 1933. But there are now some contemporary artists reviving the craft who make a point of using ethically sourced feathers (collected from molt etc).
Tumblr media
1 Cap (清朝 点翠头饰) China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 18th-19th century Gold wire, kingfisher feathers, amber, coral, jadeite, ivory, glass, silk Exceptional workmanship and the brilliant color of the kingfisher feathers make this an outstanding example of a woman's headdress. At the center, a phoenix with a peacock-like tail is flanked by a pair of dragons. Stacked above the phoenix are a large bat studded with a jadeite gem and another executed in fine filigree. Gourds, symbolizing the wish for multiple offspring, appear on the sides and suggest that this cap may have been worn by a young woman.

2 Headdress (清朝 点翠头饰) China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century Silk-covered lattice, kingfisher feathers, gilt bronze, jadeite, coral, amethyst, rose quartz, and carnelian The central roundel on this headdress features a butterfly with jadeite wings and a coral body while those on either side contain rose-quartz flowers and narrow-waisted bottle gourds, symbols of fertility. Below the butterfly, two bat-like creatures with long antennae and quartz bodies are flanked by gourds. Jade-petal flowers and other plant motifs fill the top register.
3 Headdress (清朝 点翠头饰) China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century Kingfisher feathers, gilt bronze, pearls, garnets. rose quartz, jadeite, and glass, applied to a silk-wrapped wickerwork trellis The numerous stylized creatures that adorn this headdress are bats. They represent a motif favored in Chinese art because the Chinese word for "bat" (fu) sounds similar to that for good fortune. The wings of the large bats are fashioned with seed pearls, and red agate cameos indicate the eyes and bodies of the smaller ones. Their long antennae end in pearls, which would quiver with the slightest movement when the headdress was worn. The strings of pearls hanging from the lower rim form a veil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4 Tiara (清朝 点翠头饰) China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century Kingfisher feathers on silver gilt, jadeite, carnelian, coral, and ivory In Chinese culture dragons are powerful but benevolent creatures, and the ones that decorate the top of this tiara chase a central flaming pearl- a combination that probably expresses the hopes for a happy marriage. Around the perimeter, stylized characters for longevity (show) and small figures of immortals symbolize a further wish for long life. On the inner rim, the eight phoenixes facing downward are also talismans for good fortune.
5 Tiara (清朝 点翠头饰) China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century Kingfisher feathers on gold and gilt bronze, agate, and lapis lazuli At the top of this tiara, a pair of dragons chase a flaming pearl, a motif expressing hopes for a happy marriage. Below them a pavilion probably represents a paradise of immortals, and still farther down are two goldfish, symbolizing offspring and good fortune. The bottom is composed of a row of birds facing downwards, each holding in its beak a string of pearls suspending L-shaped musical chimes. The Chinese word for chime, qing, is similar to that for celebration.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6 Opera Costume Headdress (民国 点翠头饰) China, first half of 20th century Kingfisher feathers, gilt bronze, faux pearls, and glass This headdress teems with symbols of good fortune. The design centers on a large tree peony and below it, a pair of guardian lions flank a flaming pearl. The next row down features red-headed phoenixes and a dragon. A pair of leaping fish--symbolizing a successful career and abundant offspring- appear above the peony. At the top is a pavilion, perhaps representing a paradise of immortals. More details appear amidst the primary designs: bats and butterflies fluttering their wings and Chinese characters with meanings such as "wealth," "longevity," "nobility," and "glory," collectively imbuing the headdress with an air of celebration.
7 Opera Costume Headdress (民国 点翠头饰) China, Possibly Guangxi province, early 20th century Gilt bronze, kingfisher feathers, pearls, coral, silk thread, and glass Together with phoenixes, mandarin ducks, and bats, four large clamshells decorate this headdress. Each clamshell contains a pearl that is visible only from the side or the top. Contemporary audiences would likely have noticed many pearls dotting the headdress, though, and associated them with the clamshells' contents. In addition to wealth, the pearls probably symbolize a wish for a happy marriage and many offspring.

The only book I know about (in English) about tian-tsui feather art is this one:
Kingfisher Blue: Treasures of an Ancient Chinese Art by Beverley Jackson (2001)
Tumblr media
PS - kingfisher feathers aren't really blue - and in fact no bird feathers are known to have "true blue" pigmentation! It's all structural color, just a trick of the light fooling our eyes. :) (Try taking a single "blue" feather and backlighting it sometime to see for yourself!)

Sinful maidens---Red rose
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is nothing worse than a one-sided passion. The object does not feel this feeling, tends to start hating us. And the inner fire does not let you sleep peacefully until only ashes remain inside
-What's your name? -Cordelia Sakamaki.
The weather outside was ordinary. I didn't want to look at its. It was the place that attracted attention. It was a garden with lush flowerbeds, alleys of trees, a small fountain, a table. A table for tea or writing. A woman sat beside it. She interested most of all. Her clothes were black, but in some places semi-transparent, which gave a playfulness. Venomous green eyes and a cynical smile. It gave the impression that she had won a poker game and was proud of herself. The dark red lipstick gave her a great uniqueness.
Getting lost in the woman's eyes, I didn't notice the wine glass in her hand. It was already appropriated by the imprint of red lipstick.
-Cordelia is a French name?
-Oui…-an atmosphere of flirtation hovered over the woman.
"I think she has a musical background, her voice is melodic and smooth".
-How old are you?
-A lot older than you think. -More than you think.
Much
-Parfume. What perfume is that?
It's a sweet scent with floral notes. It seems more suited to young, infantile girls trying to get a bloke's attention. Cordelia didn't need it. this is not what made her alluring.
-Oh, you noticed, with a playful smile- it's jasmine oil. Isn't that a gorgeous scent?
-Yes. What are your interests. Recent ones.
-I'm interested in a story "The Pit" by Kuprin. It's a good book, I recommend it. Maybe you'll learn something new. Hm… - the woman fell silent, but immediately came to her senses - Ah, yes, and my son. His name is Laito.
"Ugh… This is all so ungodly and dirty".
I was about to ask something, but I was interrupted.
-These red roses were brought by my husband from Spain. -As soon as the words came out of her red lips, the smile on her face disappeared. -But the old ones were better. "Florentina."
Madame in black sat at a table in the large garden. Her purple hair played reluctantly with the cool breeze. Her eyes looked down. One could wonder what gemstone resembled them. Nephrite, jadeite, emerald, amethyst. Dark red lipstick. Rubbed. Hands rested on her legs. Gloves black but with reddish stains. Could someone have died? There's a bottle of wine on the table. Spilled. All that's missing are the tears.
The red stains on the gloves are lipstick.
