heres another belated v day post!! :D im working my way up guys look at me go, im running out of valentine themed songs though if you have recs and see this before the 14th pls send them to me!!

summary: John B and Pope have to help out JJ when he's under too much stress over a pretty girl, not proofread, use of Y/n.

JJ wasn’t one for romantics, never was, never will be. He’s never witnessed real romance outside of TV shows and movies, although now that he has, with his best friend falling in love, JJ still just didn’t quite get it.

Until he met You, of course, because every sweet, enchanting, and cheesy love story has to start with the player meeting the one.

The one that broke down every little wall with a soft smile and pretty eyes. The one who saves everything while simultaneously ruining it all. 

At least in JJ’s eyes. 

“Dude, just admit you like her” Pope’s words went in one ear and out the other as JJ groaned into the old pillow, dramatically falling onto John B’s couch. “I think he did, just not in a comprehensible way” John B chuckled, shoving JJ’s feet off of his lap.

JJ groaned once more before shifting positions and sitting up on the opposite end of JB. “I don’t know what it is, man. She comes in, introduces herself with a pretty little voice, batting her pretty little eyelashes, smiling a pretty little smile on her pretty little face.” JJ’s voice was laced with irritation, his friends just laughed in response. 

“I think JJ thinks Y/n is pretty, Pope.” “No way, really?” Another round of laughter between the two boys made JJ scoff before chuckling a bit as well, he rubbed at his eyes. 

JJ’s laughter ended with a sigh, “She’s makin’ me crazy.” John B smiled at his friend, nudging his shoulder. “They have that effect huh?” JB remarked, sharing a knowing look with Pope before Pope pulled JJ up off the couch.

“What am I gonna do? I mean, I gotta really wow this girl, man I mean, she’s perfect” JJ gushed as he stared back at his friend who merely smiled back and shook his head. “Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, why don’t you go work that out with John B and I’ll continue studying.” Pope proposed the idea as JB stood up, patting JJ on the back before nearly dragging him out of the chateau by the back of his hoodie. 

“C’mon, we’re gonna make sure you get your girl by tomorrow night”

JJ and John B loaded up into the Twinkie, heading straight for the closest convenience store. JB distracted his lovelorn friend with loud music that the two teenage boys happily and obnoxiously sang along to. Once they finally pulled up to the store and went inside, John B led JJ to the aisle filled with red and pink colored cardboard, and heart-shaped candies.

“Dude, I don’t even know what kind of candy she likes,” JJ sighed, both boys scanning the wall of options. “This is gonna be harder than I thought.” John B mumbled. 

“It’s all just one big guessing game-” John B got cut off by the store clerk noticing them. 

“Maybank, I better not catch you stealin’ nothin'.” His gruffy booming voice caught their attention, heads turning towards the sound in sync. “Course not, Mr. Wade!” JJ waved, a small smile on his lips as the clerk shook his head and went back to his initial goal, leaving them alone once more. 

JJ watched as John B grabbed one of the blue baskets and started throwing random candy boxes into it. “What are you doing?” JJ furrowed his eyebrows. “She’s gotta like at least one of these, let’s just buy it all” John B shrugged, handing the basket to JJ who turned his attention towards the box full of small stuffed animals. 

JJ picked up a small cat before looking at the little dog holding a love heart. “Do you think she’s more of a dog person or a cat person?” “Which one do you want her to be?” 

JJ abandoned the cat and threw the dog in the basket, just as John B grabbed a pink bag covered in white hearts and threw it on top of their Valentine's treasures. 

“This should be enough right?” John B asked, earning a slightly concerned look from JJ. 

“Aren’t you supposed to be the professional here? I’m just the student!” JJ followed him to the counter and helped throw everything in front of Mr. Wade. 

“JJ, I don’t think people see either of us and think of the word professional.” and of course, he couldn’t argue with that.

JJ was left to his own devices the rest of the night, John B had a date with Sarah. 

He did his best at setting up the bag of goodies, before deciding it was good enough because nothing would be as perfect as you no matter how much he tried. 

Finally, Wednesday had come and right around the time you made it outside of your school building you were met with the sight of the Twinkie, eyes watching it as you laughed at something one of your friends said. You said your goodbyes before making your way to the old van just as JJ Maybank came out of the driver’s side and leaned on the passenger’s door. 

“Thought you dropped out, JJ.” You smiled at the blond, who happily mirrored you as he approached him. “You know, gotta come back every once in a while, see how the place is holdin’ up without me.” He shrugged, earning a chuckle from you.

JJ cleared his throat, standing up straight. “I wanted to surprise you. Ask you to be my Valentine.” Your smile got softer, that sweet look on your face almost making JJ chicken out but now he was too deep in. 

“So ask me,” you said softly, after a moment of waiting for him to continue. JJ laughed, shaking his head. “Right, yeah, sorry. Will you be my Valentine, pretty lady?” His voice was quieter than you were used to hearing, you couldn’t help but cover your face as you felt heat spread across your cheeks. JJ chuckled at your reaction before leaning forward just enough to remove your hands from your face. 

“Whadya say?” You smiled at him as he held onto your hands, whispering now that you were so close. “I’ll be your Valentine any day of the week, J.” He smiled back, pressing a quick kiss to your cheek before letting go of your hands and opening the passenger door, revealing the very same bag that was currently overflowing. 

“Awh, babe.” You smiled at the sight, picking up the little dog plush. 

“Hope you’re a dog person,” He said, grabbing the bag’s handles so you could get in the van. 

“And that you have a severe sweet tooth.”

Jason also appears in the Lego DC Super Villains games that i highly recommend as well especially because my girlfriend is a mega fan of it and i don't know much about Lego Batman 3:Beyond Gotham but please avoid the aformentioned original Rhato,Red Hood:Outlaws and the Gotham Knights game as they feature extremely problematic writing not limited to but including racialized misogyny and ableism and do disservice to Jason himself anyway so you wouldn't want to consume them to begin with if you want to like him.I have mixed feelings on the Arkham Knight and Injustice games series' but they are objectively fairly good so i wouldn't say no to giving them a shot to see if you like them

And for the finale we have Wayne Family Adventures-Definitely a good read but to be totally honest it does Duke DIRTY and it sucks so much of DC to have marketed as his series to not only not follow through at all and make it an ensemble cast instead but ALSO deprive him of his actual characterization and story to make him a demure weak black boy stereotype.I won't judge you at all for liking it if you decided to read it or have already but kindly keep this in mind and consider joining me and my mutuals in our rewrite of it to give our Signal of Hope and Chaos the writing he deserves or at least support us through likes and reblogs!Happy Jason readings and have a good day💕

🦚 - Are there any queer books/shows/etc. that you would suggest?

oh my god YEAH absolutely. i used to be a queer media connoisseur (im no longer a romance girlie when i consume media bc i write so much of it but i still have love for the genre). i'll do one rec for each category up here but ill put some more under the cut!!

book: aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe. it's my favorite book i've gotta put it out there. literally changed my life when i was like 16 i love it so much

show: there's so many popular ones that i feel like if you're gay you've already seen them by now, so im gonna throw a curveball and go with crazy ex-girlfriend. they talk a LOT about lgbtq+ identities and explore dynamics with different couples, and if you love musicals, you absolutely must go watch it rn i fear

movie: moonlight. oh my god if you haven't seen moonlight go watch moonlight it's so so incredible 10/10. a drama that follows a black gay man from childhood to adulthood, explores the themes of masculinity, family, and friendship as well as romantic love. it's just an incredible movie it deserves all the hype tbh

music: once again there's so many popular queer musicians nowadays that i Do Not HAVE to rec (you know the ones they go hard), so im gonna rec chrissy chlapecka!! she just makes such incredible, sugary-sweet pop music about such amazing fucked up shit i love her

books:

of course like. simon vs the homosapien agenda by becky albertalli is out there. this is one of those classics i was talking about KDNKFNFK it's very ya-gay-romance-romcom you can eat up ya know. the movie's also not too bad (people think it's 'cringey' nowadays but that was HUGE for me when i was like 19 and had my first girlfriend). anyway it's feel-good fluff if you like that kind of thing!!

red white and royal blue is obviously another classic and one i can't rec enough. i love the way its written, i love the characters, i love the plot. like it's everything, if you're into the romcom vibe this is a great one to check out. (and as a bonus this one also has a movie and it Slaps)

it's not like it's a secret by misa sigura is a pretty solid wlw coming-of-age novel that i highly rec if you're into the rom-com type book. it's also got some EXCELLENT poc representation!!

bloom by kevin panetta is a graphic novel and i love it. so so so much. truly i think i read this in a day and i am NOT a huge graphic novel reader. feel-good romcom, poc rep, body diversity, AND pretty pictures. what is there not to love. everyone should read bloom tbh

lies we tell ourselves by robin talley is Probably my favorite wlw book ever. it's historical fiction and it is Everything to me. and im actually a known historical fiction hater so take it from me - its Good.

carry on by rainbow rowell is i think a classic at this point and i love it. so so so much. you ever identify with a character a little too hard. yeah thats me and this book. i gave my best friend a copy for her graduation. it is an Excellent take on 'remember all the heroes you wanted to be gay when you were a kid. imagine if they were.' it's my beloved

a hero at the end of the world by erin claiborne is another great one in the same vein, with a punchy, dry humor twist. basically if you were a harry potter kid but you hate jkr. you'll love this one and carry on KSNDKDNFK

nimona by nd stevenson is another graphic novel!! it's another fantasy, so if that's your cup of tea, i highly recommend it. it's got an amazing queer love story, a genderfluid protag, and most importantly, found family. literally everything. (it also has a movie but i haven't seen it yet

the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater is HUGEEEE i love that series it reshaped me. it's. mystery/supernatural i would say? it has multiple of my fave queer characters of all time and honestly. everyone there is a little gay. one of my absolute faves <3

we are the ants by shaun david hutchinson is a sci-fi horror adventure story and this one. it stuck with me. the main character hit me so hard and his internal struggle is so SO interesting. if you're into this kind of shit. give it a shot!

every day by david levithan is not one of MY all-time faves, but i can still say it's super interesting and has great rep!! it has a genderfluid/agender main character (depending on how you look at it). i will say i think there are multiple books in the series (?) but i stopped at one bc. it made me too sad anyway. <3

the perks of being a wallflower by stephen chbosky is not queer bc it's explicitly about a queer character or a queer love story, BUT. it still has one of my favorite lgbt characters of all time. patrick you will always be famous to me. as a bisexual girl in a catholic high school, saw a Lot of myself in patrick. (i do also have a special place in my heart for the movie bc it was my depression movie as a teen but patrick is played by ezra miller so be warned)

one of us is lying by karen mcmanus is another one that's not just. About a Gay Couple BUT it is one of my fave books (a murder mystery retelling of the breakfast club) and it has a gay main character!! his struggle with his sexuality is something he really struggles with and he has a boyfriend and i adore him.

shows:

i mean obviously like. heartstopper is incredible. like i said im not super into the romcom/young adult genre anymore but that show is just so beautiful and amazing and really healed my inner gay teen. it has a really diverse cast and representation for all kinds. i really recommend it!!!

everything sucks was gone before its time, but it is SUCH an amazing show. it has one of my fave on-screen wlw couples of all time. it's a feel-good, coming of age classic and i miss it deeply. (what did you just say??? 'katie rewatch it' oh my god you're onto something)

now if yall know me. glee is absolutely gonna be on this list. is it good? technically no. is it one of the greatest pieces of satire ever created? up until season three yes. i realized i was gay via santana lopez. THE gay character of all time. and all the love in my heart for all the other lgbt characters (kurt hummel you will always be famous to me......) some of it's a little dated (don't get me STARTED on unique) but it does genuinely have some great lgbt rep and if you watch it with a grain of salt it's a great comedy

julie and the phantoms made by kenny ortega (of THE high school musical and descendants fame) and it has a gay character i love!! (actually technically it has a few <3)

i'm a huge consumer of kids' media (i think phineas and ferb is a literal masterpiece and im not even kidding) so if you're like me and enjoy the disney/kid show beat i cannot rec andi mack enough. it's dramatic it's campy it's fun it's silly it's got a FANTASTIC gay character and a gay couple i deeply adore and not to mention!! so much representation!! it's like junior fosters tbh

we're gonna get into a little pocket here of like. normal romance but slightly niche - animes! sasaki to miyano is like my top lgbt anime rec. it is so, SO good. just absolute feel-good romcom goodness pls give it a shot

depending on interpretation, ouran high school host club arguably has a nonbinary character, some bi/gay characters, and a trans character! now. it IS hella dated do not get me wrong. BUT for the time? incredibly progressive and a wonderful watch. just brace yourself for some out of pocket shit

stars align has one of my favorite lgbt characters EVER, a nonbinary icon <3 and it's like. a PLOT. truly so rare to see something like that done on tv, let alone in anime. this is a sports anime - soft tennis my beloved - but it has So Much More To It than that.

another gay sports anime is run with the wind, a recent fave of mine. and i don't mean gay in the way that most sports animes are kinda gay. i mean he literally says 'im in love with this guy.' it's an amazing watch if you like that kinda thing!!

if you want an aroace genderfluid protag. the disastrous life of saiki k is up there as one of my fave animes ever AND saiki (the main character) is my fave protag of all time. this silly lil show is supernatural (ish?) and comedy all wrapped into one fantastic show i highly recommend!!

segueing back into live action shows, buffy the vampire slayer is an AMAZING, iconic, female-led supernatural dramedy with some early and, for its time, incredible lesbian rep.

yellowjackets because i LOVE unhinged lesbians. i didn't even know there was gay people in this - i started watching because i love horror and girls' soccer DLNKFNFLN and it's amazing!! if you like tragic gay women i HIGHLY endorse yellowjackets.

in the flesh. look. here's my pitch for itf. do you love being sad. do you love catharsis. do you love zombies. you will LOVE in the flesh. please. i miss it so bad i've seen this show 4 times (and you're right i should also watch this one again!!!) and i never tire of it.

sense8 is a sci-fi show and IT IS EVERYTHING TO ME. truly the diversity is unparalleled. so many lgbt characters of so many different identities. polyamory, trans people, a neuro-link that's destroying peoples' lives. it literally has everything.

the get down is not just an lgbt show, BUT it has an incredible lgbt character/storyline that i adore. a musical show, a historical fiction piece (which means a lot coming from me), and almost every character is a poc. pls give it a shot it's everything

bodies is another one that isn't just about lgbt+ rep BUT. it's incredibly diverse, examining people facing discrimination throughout history (you've got a gay mc, a jewish mc, a muslim mc, AND a disabled mc) and it just has such amazing plot lines and representation. it's a murder mystery/sci-fi double whammy, so give it a shot if you're interested!!

movies:

alex strangelove is a good, underrated, coming of age classic. it follows a guy who struggles with his sexuality. very teen rom-com-dramedy core!!

i adored boy meets girl when i watched it. a very romcom-y movie about a trans woman from a small town dreaming of getting out....... friends to lovers.......... i adore it

happiest season is a christmas movie and it's very sweet. its been panned (there are some just criticisms on the plot tbf) BUT i do think it's really cute

to wong fu thanks for everything julie newmar is just. so so good. it's an underrated classic imo. three drag queens go on road trip, end up in a small town, and change it for the better. it's literally so amazing it's just feel good found family PLEASE give this one a shot

the birdcage is another classic i so genuinely enjoy. who doesn't want robin williams and nathan lane as their gay dads. at the end of the day it's all about found family, love, and old gay men.

handsome devil is a foreign film - irish to be exact! - and i love it so much. once again as a catholic school kid.......... yeah. YEAH. anyway go watch the og gay nicholas galitzine movie LKNDKFNKNLFNKLF

pride is a historical piece and an excellent movie. it's got its ups and downs but god it's just an overall good movie. another irish film, coincidentally!

the way he looks is also a foreign film, this time in spanish, BUTTTTT it's one of my faves i love it so much. it's very feel-good, sweet, romcom so if you feel like you could be into that - give it a shot!!

rent, if you're into musicals, has some of my fave musical characters ever. angel dumott schunard you will ALWAYS be the love of my life. it is deeply sad but. other than that. i live in denial.

the prom is a much more light-hearted and silly lgbt musical. people shat on that movie but i think it's SWEET and cute and has some bangers!!

i mean like. we can joke ab how hyped it is all we want but brokeback mountain is basically required gay watching. it is EXACTLY as amazing as everyone says it is. the chemistry..... oh my god we could never make that movie again it was like catching lightning in a bottle.

bodies, bodies, bodies is a fun and campy lgbt horror if you're into that kind of thing!! the ending was a bit not my fave but otherwise it's an incredible cast and got some great silly scares

on the topic of gay horror, jennifer's body is gay and again, exactly as good as everyone hypes it up to be. you want gay women who are terrible to each other? oh boy do i have the movie for you

and i promise ill wrap on gay horror with it chapters 1 & 2. reddie will unfortunately always be famous.

everything, everywhere, all at once is not Just a gay movie BUT. it has an incredible gay character and it factors so interestingly into the mother/daughter relationship. i love that movie i will always talk about it

Fanfic Author Self-Recs!

This was surprisingly difficult, as I sort of wanted to go multi-fandom for this one, and I found myself looking at all the fandoms I've written for and having a hard time choosing which to focus on!

A Pot to Piss In. Dragon Age, Sera gen backstory fic, 41K, rated M. Definitely my favorite DA fic I've written so far. It was so, so much fun and it's a huge love letter to Sera's character and has a lot of side OCs I loved writing and I'm just so stinkin' happy with it.

No Woman Rules Alone. Dragon Age, Anora/F!Tabris, 34K, rated E. The longest exchange fic I've written to date and the one that I feel like really solidified my love of writing about politics (and femslash, and Tabrises) in this fandom. It was an incredibly fun project and I'm very fond of it.

The Drop Trilogy. Red vs. Blue, Maine/Carolina, 240K total, rated E. My RvB OTP fic, the longest project I've ever written for fandom and one that's still really close to my heart. It's about Maine, it's about the Meta, it's about Maine and Carolina, it's about isolation and loss and abuse and sorrow and hope and redemption.

Inroads series. Red vs. Blue, Carolina/Kimball, 74K total, various ratings up to E. Carolina's adventures in self-sabotage, and a relationship that might actually work out despite her best efforts! My main Kimbalina series, three one-shots and a longfic, taking place before and during season 13 (which made it an absolute nightmare to plot and I'm so proud I actually managed to make it work). I'm especially proud of the longfic, The Way We Win, but I'm still fond of the one-shots as well and it's probably best to read those first for context.

Cast Your Bread Upon the Water. Fallout, Dr. Madison Li/Star Paladin Cross, past Madison/Catherine/James, plus Madison & female Lone Wanderer, 26K, rated M. This is a fic I wrote for a Big Bang, and is illustrated by my good friend @ialpiriel. It's a story about Dr. Li in the late days of Fallout 3's story, after the Enclave takeover of Project Purity, as she confronts her past with James, the present life his actions have once again left in shambles, the complicated feelings stirred up by meeting his daughter, and a connection with an unlikely companion.

About 11.53% of my year was spent reading

I had difficulties deciding how to count WIPs that were updating throughout the year but eventually I managed to keep track of the difference in word count between the last time i read it and the new word count. Not sure if I'll keep it like that next year. I ended up reading 71% completed works, partially because it was such a pain to calculate and keep up with WIPs in this system, partially because it's a habit for me to filter them out automatically.

I was all over the place in terms of fandom in the second half of the year but Jan-June I read mostly MCYT/SBI fics. From July-Dec, only September had MCYT as its top fandom.

I tagged everything as one of four genres: Fluff, Angst, Smut, Dark. I read 280 Angst - 35% of fics, 202 Fluff, 128 Smut, and 170 Dark fics.

In terms of the tags I read, I manually tagged all my fics when I entered them and my most-read tag was Hurt/Comfort. Second most-read tag was Found Family. Following that was some smut tags I had... may be a data error because if there was smut I made sure to tag it right but I didn't tag small instances of other things in that ff.

Also, I only added some tags later on, like Slow Burn & PWP, so they don't appear at all in earlier entries. For 2023, I've kept a lot of these tags and added more, especially to cover the romance front since I wasn't reading much rom in the beginning of 2022.

I really liked this project, it encouraged me to finish the fics that I read. It also made me read & ao3 bookmark more mindfully, I think. I'm really interested to see the difference from this year to next year.

South & Theta : South pulls Theta out of North’s dying body, after fighting the Meta off him. It’s a neat little exploration of how South and Theta would relate, in all it’s awkward, weird, tense, and mind screwy glory. Highly recommended for the implantation stuff alone, nevermind the delightfully IC South.

A Crash Course in Organic-Cybertronian Relations : If you know anything about Transformers, More Than Meets the Eye, this crossover is a must read. If you don’t know the first thing about a weird transformers comic book I’d still call this a must read, it’s goddamn fantastic. Sarge has beef with Megatron, and Megatron is going to talk literally everyone but the man himself to figure out why. No he’s not avoiding anything, that would be ridiculous.

Quod Erat Demonstrandum : Simmons’ anxieties take the form of an eating disorder. Starting from Grif and Simmons arriving at Rats Nest and almost 80k introducing the main plot of season 7, this fic is the slowest burn in the goddamn multiverse and you will love every word of it. Hylian_reptile works hard to preserve the stupid and irreverent tone of the show, entirely to its benefit. Life is silly and weird, Grif and Simmons are silly and weird, so this fic is plenty silly and weird too. Best grimmons in the fandom, no contest, fuckin fight me

Fics: 

All of Riathedreamer’s fics! 

Ria is seriously my favorive fic author of all time. She mainly writes Grimmons and all of her fics are amazingly in character and are completely plausable in canon. I couldnt choose a favorite fic because they are all good. She is also the queen of Grimmons angst tho so beware while reading her fics becuase there is  A LOT of grimmons whump and angst. Aome of her fics WILL make you cry... a lot. Anyway, Ria is amazing and super nice and she also has a tumblr you you can find her here @riathedreamer​. I really cant explain ecnough how good Ria is. Just go. Check out her stuff. Shes amazing.

Incremental Annihillation by  Septdeneuf 

This fic, like most of the others on this list, is pretty angsty and filled with Grimmons. This fic is an AU where the purge was successfully activated but was stopped before everyone was killed. The victims of the Purge end up being resurected, but at a price! I dont want to spoil it too much though so Im just going to say that if you like angst and charcters making difficult situations this is the fic for you! There is on NSFW chapter but if you dont like smut (like me) you can easily skip it. The fic updates every sunday and I believe that it is almost completed! 

All of Yin’s fics

Man all of Yin’s fics are amazing. My current favorites are Pillow Talk which is a series of Grimmons one-shots , both fuffy and angsty, Specials which is a superhero au, and Above Ground which is my absolute favorite fic of theirs. Above groud is a sci-fi? AU where the planet is separated by those who are privileged enough to live above ground, and the underground Slums where the lower classes are forced to live. This fic mostly follows Grif, who live in the slums, and Simmons, who lives aabove ground and their intereactions as the tensions between the Slums and Above Ground rise. This fic has themes of genocide, class differences, etc. and if you dont really like Grimmons, just about every other character in RvB makes an appearance and ships like Tucknington are definitely focused on as well. This fic is super long though (about 477,000 words) so it is a commitment, but a very rewarding one if you chose to read it!!

Why Do You Try So Hard? by Lieutenant_Kader

This fic is a Grimmons fic (surprise surprise) that follows Grif, Simmons, and a little bit of Tucker through basic training through Blood Gulch. This fic really goes into Grif’s experience on the doomed colony and shows what he went through the days following the massacre. In is an angsty fic and is written as if it is a collection of memories opposed to a sequential story. It really is one of the best doomed colony fics at the moment so if you are interested in that part of Grif’s history you should totally check it out!

Green is Definitely a Shade of Red by Prim_the_Amazing

thi fic is the only really silly one on the list. It is also the only one that is not about Grif and/or Simmons. This fic is a super cute fic about Locus essentially being adopted by Red Team against his will. It is super adorable and it really makes me want Locus to come back soon. Also, this fic 100% includes Donut painting Locus’s nails a sparkly green color too, so that might convince you to give this fic a try. you can also find @primtheamazing​ on tumblr as well.

@mercuryblacksleg Miles is amazing. His Red Team art absolutely makes my heart melt, especially his sarge. I die everytime I see his team bonding art. Some of my favorites have to be:  

Red Team Dragons: this is just so cute! I actually teared up the first time i saw it because of how tiny and adorable the Sarge dragon is and the little blep!!!! THE BLEP! Its just so freaking cute...

Game Night!: Listen, I love bonding moments between Red and Blue Team. This piece is just so happy. I love the idea that red and blue team occasionally get together to have some fun (annoy each other)

RvB Rec Day: August

Yooo, yooo, this is like the most I’ve done without forgetting to do them/giving up on them. A lot of art this go around, especially because I’m notorious for not reading fanfics anymore, ha. Well without further ado:

Fic Rec:

Quantity Over Quality by Prim_the_Amazing: Ok, so I’m absolutely aware that I’ve rec’ed this fic before, but I’m doing it again and none of you can stop me. Because holy shit, the most recent chapter is so good. This fic is very slow burn in terms of plot advancement, but every chapter is so good that it keeps your attention tightly, and brings you into a false sense of awareness because when the plot hits you, it hurts you like a freight train. So as to not spoil anything, that’s all I’ll say, so go read this fic now!

The Witch Who Came To Visit by @cinaed : You guys have probably figured by now that I’m in love with this series by now, considering I keep reccing every new update, but get used to it because this series hasn’t failed me yet in keeping me invested. I absolutely loved this installment, because of how it manages to get the Director into the plot (gotta love them loopholes am I right?). So definitely check this out!

Where He Dared Stand or Where He Dared Walk by @riathedreamer : I love Grif and Locus friendship. You all know this, my neighbors probably know this, and sure as hell I’m gonna make this known. I got so excited to see this that I dove straight in, and it did not disappoint. For the first segment with Locus, I was following along, nodding my head getting into it, but when he dropped the bombshell that it did at the end of the first segment I straight up gasped aloud. Read this, please read this, it’s so good with just one chapter out, that is the power of Ria’s writing my guys.

Art Rec:

@luvgalaxu : Ok, stop what you’re doing right now and look at these absolute beautifully rendered and painted pictures of Sharkface. Look at the details, look at them! Also like, y’all, it’s shark week, so it’s pretty much obligatory that you show these pics some love.

@ebbreon : I absolutely love their style of drawing! The colors are so nice to look at, the lines so smooth, and the characters and face are so dynamic! My favorite piece at the moment is this one of Sarge and Carolina, the colors are just so soft and pleasant to look at (also, Carolina for Red Team for the win)!

@squashfolded : I said it once before, I’ll say it again, their style of drawing lines is my absolute favorite. Sketchy but controlled in all of the best ways. I also happen to love their style of drawing people, and my favorite right now is this picture of Kimball who looks absolutely gorgeous.

@bloodypoptart : Let me start this off by saying that their style is the most delicious cartoon style I’ve seen in a while and just looking at their art gives me straight up dopamine because it’s so good. Ok, that being said, I absolutely love their facecanon’s for Grif and Simmons, in a way they feel fresh to me, especially their design for Grif. Plus the way they line is so crisp that I fall in love with every art piece, like in this one and this one. So yeah, go check out their art because it is deserving of so much love!

My first ever set of recs! There were so many great fics to choose from, but here are some of my favorites:

Pyrrhic in Nature by @agent-murica

A Grif-centric story with some really great Grif angst. There’s a thread of mystery regarding Temple’s plans for Grif and his AI that is really compelling and will definitely leave you hooked. The suspense is superbly done, and the characters are excellently written.

Speak No Evil by @riathedreamer

More Grimmons angst because there’s never enough of that. A what-if? story that has been loads of fun (despite the angst) to read so far. Seeing how both Grif and Simmons react to this life-changing injury is extremely interesting, and the continued threat of danger lingering over them just hurts so good. 

Cat’s Paw by @cinaed

The season three finale to what I think is the best-written AU I have ever read. Everything about this series is amazing -- the characters are true to their personalities while adapted perfectly to their altered circumstances. Every time I see an update, I get ridiculously excited. The plot is gripping and incredibly written with spot-on pacing. This series never fails to make me smile, be that through Grimmons’ antics, Carolina’s (totally understandable) mischief, or Church’s attitude. This is something I seriously can’t recommend enough.

I haven’t done one of these in forever, so let’s get cracking! 

WIP: 

I haven’t been reading as much WIP stuff as I used to lately, but one fic that has me going is the phenomenal Long Way Back to the Light by @boxonthenile. I’m generally a “try anything if the premise sounds good enough” kind of shipper and hoo boy does this author deliver. Locus/Grimmons, hilarious and witty, careful in the slowburn and amazing on the characterization, this fic is the stuff dreams are made of.

My good friend @sroloc--elbisivni brings the good shit when it comes to Yorkalina all the time, and they knocked it out of the goddamn park with their Reverse Big Bang Entry the right to remain right here with me, with amazing accompanying art by @pitchscribbles! 

A while back I had a text post get some attention about Red Team versus spiders and some Chorus is Space Australia stuff, and then, to my ultimate joy, one of my all-time favorite writers @wordsysayswords decided to write fic inspired by it! Foreign Agent is hilarious, charming, and delightfully written, and Wash is so tired that I love it. 

Also I think I have a new all-time favorite smutfic: @primtheamazing wrote a brilliant Kai/Wash fic set in the zombie apocalypse: Hoe Don’t Do It, which, if you are inclined to read a good NSFW crackfic, I highly recommend.

I haven’t done one of these in so long that I’m literally obligated to rec @jomeimei421 and their AMAZING art. They’ve done two amazing merc wash pieces which inspired me to get writing, this Wash and Tucker sharing an umbrella took my breath away, this Tuckington kiss made me laugh so hard I nearly cried, and this BRAINWASHED TUCKER filled me with ANGST FEELINGS and anyways you get the point GO FOLLOW THEM, THEY DO AMAZING WORK.

RvB Rec Day

I have yet to really dip into all the Fluff/Angst Weeks and Rare Pair Week (and AO3 in general), so hopefully I’ll have a longer list for next month’s Rec Day, but in the meantime, please enjoy these three fics I’ve loved recently!

It was not a conscious decision to run into the arms of a man the exact opposite of Felix in every way, but that’s clearly what Locus has done.

I am beginning to suspect that I will get invested in any ship Prim writes, but this was my absolutely favorite Prim fic for Rare Pair Week. This manages to be hot, with amazing characterization, and make me want more for a ship I’d never considered before.

just take my hand and hold it tight by bizarrebird (Palomo and Tucker gen)

It shouldn't be that weird to hear someone call him dad, but somehow, when he hears the word out of Palomo's mouth, Tucker's thrown for a loop.

Tucker as a good dad is one of my favorite things about him, and I am also helpless for Chorusan feelings and all these young soldiers, and bizarrebird did some amazing stuff with Tucker and Palomo for Fluff Week. I really loved it.

Idaho pulls a code red on Ohio's dumb ass. It's a top priority mission: Make Ohio and Sherry go on a date.

I love Ohio/Sherry and I love this fic. Ohio and Sherry are such amazing disasters, and the characterization of everyone is fun and sweet.  I love the guys’ support of Ohio and Sherry’s relationship, and all the shenanigans. Such a fun, charming fic.

He doesn’t have to confront the most recent version of him, doesn’t have to reveal what he is.

He could live forever in a memory, and it’d be a good one, Junior thinks.

THIS FIC.

This is the story of Junior growing up—first with Tucker, and then without him, and learning what it means to be the only human/Sangheili hybrid. The heart of the story is about Junior and Tucker, but it’s about so much more than that, but it’s also about their relationship in the end. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and healing and I LOVED it.

RvB Rec Day: Femslash Recs!

For @rvbficwars’ Rec Day and the @rvbfemslash Femslash Rec-A-Thon, here are some of my favorite RvB femslash fics both old and new. Longtime followers will no doubt recognize some of these as fics I’ve recced before! They are still great stories and new fans might not have had a chance to read them, and I hope you will.

In honor of Femslash February starting tomorrow, here's some of my favorite Red vs. Blue fics both old and new.

Big Boots (South/Tex/CT, rated T) by nogoaway is one of those fics I couldn't stop reccing if my life depended on it. I have read this fic multiple times and I have a lot of Emotions about it. Read it and then read all of Nogo's South fics. But Only When Skilfully Tied (Carolina/Kimball, rated T) by thought is a post-season 12 fic that besides being some really great Kimbalina is also one of my favorite pieces of Chorus worldbuilding in fic. If you like Kimbalina it's a must-read, and the author has a lot more Kimbalina in their catalog, so check out the rest as well! Fallout (Carolina/Kimball, rated T) by eponymous_rose is one of the first fics that sold me on Kimbalina. I Wanna Get Beta (Tex/Kaikaina) is a 5-part fic by notjustsharksfanart about Kaikaina and Tex teaming up for adventures after Tex's ship crash, and digs into Tex's history and it's a really fun ride. I've Got You (Jensen/Volleyball, rated M) by minimax explores the idea of teenage soldiers in the New Republic and will break your heart a little. The Party at the Edge of Forever (Carolina/Kaikaina, rated E) by cinaed has Kaikaina Grif flirting her way across Chorus to finally meet one hot Freelancer. A delight. Wavelengths (Kaikaina/Huggins, rated E) by lohlunat proves that if anybody could figure out how to hook up with a sentient light being, it's Kaikaina Grif.
