The best Severus and Harry dynamic is when everything is exactly the same and they absolutely loathe each other
But also Severus is the one Harry goes to when he has a nightmare, the half-asleep Severus asking if he needs to 'kiss it better' (mocking, snarky) or 'actually kiss it better' (serious, protective) and he just needs to see how Harry reacts to know whether he needs to comfort Harry or if he's good to make fun of Harry until Harry's so annoyed he stops being upset. Severus is the one who kisses Harry's forehead when Harry absolutely wrecks himself playing Quidditch. Harry's the one who drags Severus to bed when Severus is trying to power through a headache. Harry's the one who cheers Severus up when he's upset by just being a sassy lil shit and cracking Severus up.
And it's even funnier when Remus Lupin is the only person who doesn't understand what the hell is this hot-and-cold dynamic? How the hell can Sev both hug Harry after a nightmare and yet also try strangle him when he says one thing wrong? And why is everyone so normal about this?! Why isn't anyone concerned?!
To everyone else, it's pretty obvious to everyone that Remus is an only child.
#severus snape#harry potter#severitus#kinda#harry and sev arent harry and sev unless they hate each other#but also they'll die to protect each other#basically they're brothers#kinda like ron and percy#you can bet ron has a full notebooks of creative ways for percy to meet his end#yet he'll also fight anyone who insults percy#sirius gets harry and sev because he had a brother and a million cousins#he just doesnt like sev. but he gets how it works#albus? he DEFINETELY gets it#he's the king of dysfunctional sibling dynamic#he knows his brother will refuse to speak to him for a year if he touched any of his stuff#but also said brother would give him a kidney#remus has no siblings. he cannot understand this

Pairing ~ Remus Lupin x blacksister!reader (slytherin reader)
Word Count ~ 988
Summary ~ With a haunted mind you look for solace in books, when you really needed it from your boyfriend, and he happily gave it to you
Warnings ~ Beginner level writing, angst, mentions of evil Walburga and Orion (they can literally just leave), Remus being a sweetheart, unedited
Note From Mia ~ Second time writing on here....I hope you like it, but I understand if not lmao
You had always been more on the reserved side. Where Sirius had chosen to leave the tortures from 12 Grimmauld Place behind him when the Black Siblings returned to school, you and Regulus had been the opposite.
You couldn’t forget. It wasn’t possible. The horrors you always faced at home haunted you every night, leading into early in the mornings, leaving you restless the rest of the day. The only peace you got was when you could sneak off into the library to bury your nose in whatever book you had your hands on. Whether that was a reread or a completely new genre, it didn’t matter. It was an escape.
So, that is exactly what you were doing now. You had been curled up in an armchair in a secluded corner of the library, reading, for almost an hour now. No distractions. Mind blank. Peace finally washing over you.
Letting out a soft sigh, you flipped the page, getting ready to read another chapter when a shadow loomed over you.
“Hello, Dove,” Remus whispered from above you. “Having a bad day?”
You and Remus had met in the Library on a rainy afternoon, and just sat together in silence while reading. Over time you had started small talk, and that led to conversations, which then led into a friendship, turned secret relationship.
It’s not that you wanted it to stay a secret, however, Remus and you were both scared of backlash from Sirius, and you were terrified of your parents; therefore, they could never find out.
Remus notices that you’re too far, too deep into your book to notice him. To pull you back into the present, he carefully rests a hand on your thigh and rubs gently, coaxing you back into the real world.
You flinch slightly at the contact before looking up to see your boyfriend. “Oh, Rem, hi. How long have you been there?” You ask, shutting your book to give him your undivided attention.
Remus ignores you, smiling gently, not sympathetically though, because he knows by now that you won’t accept it. “What do you need from me, Dovy? To talk?” He’s more than aware that you are not actually going to open up right now, he can see it in your eyes from a mile away.
“Can you just hold me?” You whisper, your words laced with vulnerability.
Remus’s eyes soften before he shuffles you around, sliding onto the chair behind you, and situating you onto his lap. He doesn’t say anything. He just holds you, gently stroking your hair, occasionally leaving a kiss to the crown of your head.
When he thinks you're almost asleep, you speak again, “Nothing ever lasts forever, Rem.”
“I know, love. What are you referring to?” He asks, dread filtering into his mind. The lycanthrope has a love-hate relationship with your deep thoughts. Some bring on deep meaningful conversations, whereas others are filled with unnecessary insecurity and doubts.
“Us,” You mutter the exact words that he was dreading.
“No.” Remus says sternly, a tone you rarely hear him use. “I will always love you,” He turns you so you’re sitting sideways in his lap, him making direct eye contact with you, making sure that you hold it. “We’re not doing this, you need to get rid of whatever negative ghosts that are haunting your mind, because we are not breaking up. If I need to help chase those ghosts away, then so be it, but you cannot let them dictate our relationship. Ours, not theirs.”
You nod, burying your head into his neck, breathing in the calming scent of cocoa and old books, mixed with a hint of pine.
“I want to hear you say it,” He whispers, nudging you with his shoulder.
You lift your head from the crook of his neck and smile weakly. “Ours, not the ghosts.”
“Exactly right, Dove.”
Remus leans in and gently presses his lips to yours, and you reciprocate before he leans back, pulling you into his chest. “I love you,” He whispers, again, knowing you needed reassurance. “And I always will.”
You nod, “I love you, forever and always.” It comes out in a whisper, but Remus hears it anyway and presses his forehead against yours, but not before pressing a kiss to your nose.
He slowly reaches up and presses the pads of his thumbs where he knows your dimples are and where he knows they should be right now. “Can you smile for me, Love?”
And you do. Because you love him, more than you thought you were ever capable of. You smile crookedly, showing Remus that it is indeed a true smile, and he leaves a kiss on both dimples before pulling away and smiling back at you.
You bring your own thumbs to his face, rubbing gently over the hundreds of freckles scattered along his face.
He kisses you gently once more before grabbing your book, “Now, what were we reading before I interrupted?” He questions teasingly.
“Well, I was reading that,” You admit sheepishly, pulling out a quill and ink container from your bag.
“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz?” Remus raises a teasing brow.
“Oh hush,” You shove his shoulder. “I was in the mood for something different and it was in the muggle book section. It seemed interesting.”
“No judgment from me then, Dove.” He whispers, opening the book at your marked spot.
And that is exactly how you and Remus spend the rest of your day. Him reading to you, and you drawing thin vines, small flowers, and a variety of constellations on his various scars while you listen to his soothing voice tell the story of a girl with a dog that somehow got sucked into a tornado and transported into the world of Oz. It didn’t make sense to you, but Remus was reading it, and that was all that seemed to matter to you at that very moment.

CW: descriptions of panic attack/ flash backs
A full day had passed since your altercation in the woods, your wounds almost healed; you were finally feeling stable enough to join the group downstairs. Ginny had taken the key to your home, meant for Fred to gather a bag of your things, now returning with a backpack slung over her shoulder. The twins still glued to your side.
“Alright you two, you at least have to allow her to change by herself, out.” Ginny stated to her brothers handing you your bag. They both looked almost insulted by her escorting them out of the door. “Don’t worry, she is in good hands, I will stay with her. Go downstairs, we will be down shortly.”
Fred looked over at you, ensuring you were okay with them leaving. Giving him a smile and a nod, “I will be ok Freddie, if I can take on the Cruciatus curse, I can handle Ginny.”
A scoff leaving George, “You don’t know Ginny that well then.” Ginny smacked him on the back of the head pushing him out of the door. “You see what I mean? The girls dangerous.”
You giggled, watching the siblings interact with one another. Closing the door behind her brothers, Ginny turned back to you. For the first time, you finally had a moment with Ginny alone, she looked at you as if you were breakable. “How are you feeling?”
“For the circumstances, I am doing alright. All I have done is sleep, but I am still tired.” You extended your hands out, “whatever they put on these worked well, look no scarring.”
“Let’s get you in the shower; I love you but you’re looking a bit disheveled.”
You looked down at the borrowed and tattered, too large, clothes you had been dressed in. Quickly nodding you agreed, “yeah, I need to wash this day off of me.”
Ginny assisted you in and out of the tub as your muscles were still tense. Pulling on your clean pants and t-shirt, you were starting to feel more like yourself. Sat on the floor, with Ginny sitting behind you, she gently pulled a brush through your hair.
“Gin?”
“Hm?”
“You know, I have been thinking a lot about what happened.” Ginny slowed her hand to a stop, listening to you intently. “I don’t feel scared when I remember everything, if I am honest, I am more angry than anything. But I am not mad at her, I am mad at myself.”
“Why would you be mad at yourself?”
“If I had just waited for Remus to come back before taking a shower or remembered my wand-”
“You cannot blame yourself. You had no reason to believe that Umbridge would come after you, she had not even shown up at the Burrow yet. It makes no sense that she went to you first.”
You nodded, wiping tears from your eyes. “If anything had happened to any of you? I couldn’t forgive myself Gin.”
“Thanks to you, nothing happened to any of us. No one that I have ever heard of has been able to fight off that curse the way you did.”
Turning to face her, “I cannot thank you all enough, for taking such good care of me. My parents- oh no my parents!”
“Don’t worry, Mom and Dad sent an owl this morning letting them know you were with us. They did not tell them what happened. They wrote back that they would be extending their travels knowing you were not home alone.”
“Of course they did” you scoffed, “because when would they be home?”
“You can stay with us if you would like, we were talking this morning about where everyone could sleep.”
You shook your head, “No, all I want is to sleep in my own bed tonight.”
“I would offer to come back with you, but I am sure I would have to fight my brothers in the back garden to have that honor.”
You both laughed quietly, “I get Fred following me around, but what does not make sense to me is George. He always seemed so mad at me, so distant, now he won’t leave my side?”
“Maybe he just is grateful for what you did for us. I couldn’t understand those two if I tried.”
“Not that I am complaining, I just can’t grasp his feelings towards me.”
An uncomfortable smile filling Ginny’s face, “alright turn back around so I can finish fixing this mess.”
***
Making your way downstairs, Ginny leading you through the large house. The smell of food cooking wafting through the air. You entered the kitchen to find everyone around the table, Molly behind the group directing the hot pans in front of them. Quickly rushing towards you, Molly rested her hands on your cheeks, “How are you feeling dear?”
“I am feeling much better, thank you.”
“Let’s get you a spot to eat, a full tummy never hurt anyone.”
“That sounds brilliant.” Finding your way to the table, a seat had been reserved for you between the twins. Fred standing to pull your chair out for you, George filling the glass in front of you with water. Sitting in your newfound spot; Freds hand found its way back on your upper leg much like the last time you had sat around a table with everyone.
The buzz of small talk filled the room, the coziness of being surrounded by the Weasleys easing your nerves. No one had mentioned what had happened to you, or what was to come of Umbridge. You felt almost as if you were part of a family for the first time in your life. You watched as dinner rolls were tossed to one another from across the large table, Ron not paying attention, George hitting him on the side of the head.
“Hey! Watch what your doing!” Ron grabbed his spoon filled with mashed potatoes, ready to fling it at his brother. Molly with her back still turned to everyone piped up “Ronald Weasley you best put that spoon either in your mouth or back on your plate.”
Ron rolled his eyes, putting his spoon in his mouth, “I wasn’t going to do anything.”
George stuck his tongue out at him, causing you to laugh.
“After we eat, we can head back home.” Arthur stated, “I trust that you will be joining us?”
A shared glance between you and Ginny catching the twins attention.
“You are, aren’t you?” They said in unison.
“After everything that has happened, I truly would love to spend the night in my own bed.”
“Yeah, I was going to see if I could stay with her if that was alright. Don’t want her to be alone.” Ginny responded, looking at Molly.
“We can go with her.” Once again Fred and George said together.
“See, I told you.” Ginny stated under her breath just loud enough for you to hear, causing you to smile.
“Well, there are two us of after all.” George responded, “So what do you say? Two for the price of one?” He bumped your arm with his.
“As long as Molly is okay with it?” looking up to her, hands on her hips in true Molly fashion. You could see her mulling it over.
“Only if this is what would make you more comfortable, but you know that you are always welcome home with us as well.”
“I appreciate your offer, but truly would love to get back. Although, I would feel safer if Fred and George could join me.”
“Alright then,” she pointed at you giving you a serious look “if anything changes, you come straight back to the burrow. We have more than enough room for you dearie.”
“I promise, if anything changes, I will have them bring me straight to you.”
***
After eating, everyone departed back to their rooms to pack up their things. Sitting on the bed, you laced up the shoes Ginny had brought back for you. You were lost in thought about your journey home, you were unsure how to get there as your travel to the safe house was in the dark, the last half you were unconscious for.
“Just about ready?” You looked up, finding George standing with his arms crossed, leaning against the door frame.
“I should be soon, what do you have there?” Motioning towards the wrapped box in one of his hands.
“I had meant to give this to you before Christmas break, I forgot it was in my bag if I am being honest. When I was packing things back up, I found them.” He crossed the room, sitting next to you on the bed. “I figured now you may need them more than ever.”
Handing you the package, you could feel his nervousness. Unwrapping the gift, you found a beautiful pair of mittens. “Oh George, thank you so much!” You wrapped your arms around his neck pulling him into a tight hug. Releasing him, you quickly pulled them over your hands admiring how soft they were.
“Mom helped me make them.”
“How did you ever pick this color? I love it.”
“I- um, I tried to find a color that matched your eyes as closely as I could.”
“Georgie this is one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me. Thank you so much, truly.”
He simply nodded, trying to bite back a smile. “Now if any other evil wizards or witches happen to find you, please remember proper attire for the weather.”
“I will keep that in mind.” You gave his knee a push with your own.
***
Returning home, Fred and George at your side, they insisted on checking your house before you went inside. Fred remaining outside with you, George going in to check everything over. You rested your head on Freds shoulder, patiently waiting to be given the all clear. A small chuckle leaving Fred catching your attention.
“What’s so funny Weasley?” You looked up at him.
“It’s just, the last time we were standing on these steps, I was pouring my heart out to you. Now here we are only a few days later, and I feel like you own it. I can never begin to thank you enough for what you did for me, for my family. I will spend the rest of my existence trying to repay you.”
“I didn’t do anything for you that you wouldn’t have done for me Freddie.”
Fred placed a quick, gentle kiss on your lips, resting his forehead on yours. The sound of George clearing his throat catching both of your attention.
“House is clear, we can go inside now.” George motioned towards the door.
“Thanks Georgie, what would I do without the both of you?” you slid your way into the house, leaving the twins together on the steps.
“Really? You couldn’t let me have just a few more seconds?” Fred questioned.
“Well, I figured you were getting cold out here, didn’t want to leave you stranded.” George shrugged at his brother. Both following you inside, each double checking that the front door was locked.
***
Your room was exactly how you had left it, apart from your drawers having been rummaged through by Ginny. It felt odd being here again, memories of Umbridge flashing back to you. You could still smell her perfume in the air, you had not expected to still feel her presence. Anxiety had begun to fill your chest. Flicking your wand, you lit some of the candles around your room to rid of the scent of her, pulling open your windows. Cold air rushed in, blowing your curtains around you, the frigid air enveloping your skin. Suddenly it felt harder to breathe, your room was spinning. You wanted to call out for the twins, but your body wouldn’t let you, you wanted to walk out of the room, but instead your legs gave in. Landing on your bedroom floor, you pulled your knees to your chest. Hot tears began filling your eyes, you could hear her voice in your ear, “I have not been known to be forgiving… Don’t tell me who I am or what I am capable of little girl.” Your heart was beating so hard you were sure it would give out, you hid head in your knees, hoping it would all stop.
You felt a pair of hands rest on your shoulders, startling you, you jumped back. Looking up you found Fred staring back at you. The look of panic on your face shocked him to his core. “George, she’s in here!” He yelled behind him; his hands found your cheeks pulling your gaze to his.
“It’s okay, you’re safe. What happened?”
You couldn’t speak just yet, hiding your face in his chest, wrapping your arms around his waist. Sobs escaping from you at an alarming rate. Fred gently stroked your hair, shushing you quietly. George rushing to your side, started rubbing your back. The twins exchanged a concerned look, both of their hearts breaking for you.
“Its okay, were here.” They stated in unison. Minutes passed like hours as they waited for you to return to them. Finally, you pulled from Freds chest, covering your face with your shaky hands, you took a deep breath.
“It smells like her in here, I tried to open the windows to let in some fresh air. The cold hit me, and it all happened so quickly. It was like she was still here.” Rubbing your eyes you looked up to find Fred sitting in front of you, George positioned behind you as if they were your own personal safety blanket. “I’m sorry I overreacted.”
“You went through a great deal, it is normal to feel scared.” George interjected.
“We will make sure there are no signs of her left here, George and I will go through each and every room with you to check. First things first, we are closing that window.” Fred went to stand, your hand catching his holding him in place. “it’s ok, ill just be a few feet away, George is right there.”
You released your grip, leaning back slightly to allow yourself to rest on George. “There you go.” Watching Fred carefully, you observed as he closed your bedroom window, crossing to your dresser which held your record player. Moving the needle onto the round disk, he flicked the power button on, soft music filling the space around you.
“You never changed the record?” He turned to you, both of you recognizing the music playing through the speakers as the same song from first night he had stayed with you. You shook your head, “I couldn’t bring myself to put something else on yet.”
“Do I even want to know?” George rung out from behind you.
A soft giggle escaping you, pink flushing to your cheeks.
“Hey there’s our girl, first smile I have seen from you since we got back.” Fred crouched down in front of you. He extended his hand out to you, pulling you up from the floor slowly. George arose behind you, both brothers ensuring you were steady on your feet.
Following your lead towards the bathroom, you paused in front of the door. “This is where she found me, I know my clothes from before the shower are still on the floor.”
“Why don’t you wait here, I can get them for you. Stay with Fred.” George stepped forward; you raised your hand to stop him.
“I have to do this, if I keep avoiding it, I will always be afraid.” You took a deep breath, “plus, I have you two here to protect me.”
“We’re right behind you.” They echoed each other.
Pushing the door open, it was as you had expected, your towel thrown over the counter, clothes strewn about on the floor. The feeling of panic had begun to rise back through your system; two strong hands finding either of your shoulders as both brothers reached out to you. “You can do this.” Fred said softly.
Bending down, you collected your clothes, pulling your towel from the counter. You tossed all the laundry into the nearby hamper, along with the bathmat. Remembering how you had fallen to it in pain, you wanted to wash all of it away. The twins staggered themselves in the doorway, ensuring to give enough space between them if you needed to step out; not wanting you to feel trapped. You went to pick up the laundry bin to move it out of the room, George moved forward to take it from you. “At least let me do this for you, please?”
You nodded, handing it to him, your hands brushing for only a moment. “Down the hall and to the right.” George followed your instructions to the laundry room.
“How are you doing?” Fred asked.
“Grateful for you being here, I don’t think I could have done this on my own. For the first time in my life, being on my own scares me a little.”
“Hey, as long as I am breathing, you will never be alone. Even after that, I will haunt you, just to make sure you are never on your own.”
“Oh great, first a crazy witch, now I have a prankster ghost to worry about?”
“I would give Peeves a run for his money.”
A smile formed across your face, “you already do Weasley.”
“To be fair, you give me a run for my money. You amaze me with that quick wit.”
“Someone has to keep you on your toes Freddie.”
“Lucky for me, you knocked me right off of those toes, and I fell head over heels for you.”
Your head snapped in his direction; his eyes filled with admiration. “You’re falling for me?”
“Oh honey, I have fallen, even scraped my elbow, look.” He pulled up his sleeve, showing you his elbow, no bruises or abrasions to be seen.
“What are you saying?”
“This was not how I had planned on telling you. I had hoped for a bit more romance, or to not be in your bathroom.” He paused, “I love you. Since the day I saw you for the first time in the room of requirement, I have loved you. I fear that I can never go back to life without you. You’re stuck with me.”
“I love you too Freddie.”

*materializes into existence*
Hey there :D
I heard ya wanted asks about your personal headcanons for the Sides? I'm curious about your thoughts on Remus & Roman, and just them being brothers. You always have the coolest takes and fanarts with them!
So, yus: ✨the twins✨
And also Virgil's and Remus' relationship with each other if ya want :3
Anyway, have fun :D
Hello my favourite breakfast food mutual! /j
I have so much to say about the twins and their relationship to each other.
To start with, I want to clarify that the two of them very clearly have a lot of issues to work out, and although I love them being brotherly, I do think a lot of their fighting might be a little... more genuine than that. They are very much pitted against each other both by their natures and by the other sides, and Remus is intentionally antagonistic to Roman a lot. It's not healthy, but they are brothers nonetheless, and like most sibling relationships they have a lot of complexities to them and their feelings on each other.
Now getting into headcanon territory!
I don't really ascribe to the common fanon of a big "splitting" event that resulted in the two of them. I also don't think there was a King as fun as that headcanon is. I think the original creativity was something more childlike, like a puppet/muppet looking fella or a stereotypical cartoon character trope - maybe something disney based. When Logan talks about them splitting like an ovum, he seems to be talking about a much slower, gradual process as Thomas had those catholic ideals of thought crimes and repentence forced into him. Religious thought like that is integrated into a child's mind in a much slower fashion than that of which would cause a sudden and massive separation.
I like to think that Remus came about the way mold or a nest parasite does. Slowly growing off of and out of the original creativity until he was his own being entirely. Strong enough to pull off of the 'host' and grow on his own. I like comparing him to a cuckoo bird baby. He didn't understand why he's so much hungrier, so much bigger, than his sibling. He didn't understand why he was so out of place and different from his foster siblings in the nest. He didn't understand why he had done something very bad, but he knew that he had. He is so hungry. So much bigger than the rest. He is so much - too much. He has done something very bad. He doesn't know what he's done. He's done something... horrible. He is something horrible.
Remus and Roman have been compared to each other and placed above or below the other their entire time of existing. That creates really difficult feelings about your sibling when you're raised like that. Remus having to always be seen as 'worse' created self esteem issues that manifest as him purposefully making himself as unlikeable as possible. He absolutely can't handle positive attention or praise, and tends to see it as not genuine or that the person is fooling themselves when he does receive it. Roman, heralded as the 'good creativity' and always put on a pedestal, is the opposite. He cannot handle negativity towards his creations or himself, and being the Ego doesn't help with that. Roman is very easily hurt by criticism because he used to always be praised for anything he made, when Thomas was a child.
Remus and Roman get in a LOT of physical fights, being imaginary has its perks such as "I can decapitate my annoying brother and he will be fine and still yelling at me." It helps them blow off some of the animosity between them, and usually they patch each other up after which also helps with that. I think they drum up entire battle scenarios in The Mindpalace with dragons and manticores and all sorts of beasts to tear each other apart, only to laugh and put each other back together.
I think that sometimes, even though most of their relationship is fighting and bickering, they really are the only one that can comfort each other. They understand each other's painful emotions and self esteem issues so well that the other sides couldn't get anywhere close to the ability they have to make each other feel better. They're brothers, no matter how much they dislike that fact, and they know each other inside and out.
This is very long so I will talk about Remus & Virgil at a later date! You can see a tiny bit of my thoughts in this post though.

James listens to her, learning to be silent and not let his worst instincts reign. The words flow low, almost softly out of her pretty mouth and turn into daggers in his heart. He knew he had been close to losing her - felt her stubbornly slip away in that bloody cold infirmary room. But to have it confirmed makes him want to…scream, cry, fight - find her sister, future brother in law and future fucking fiancé and torn them to pieces.
A beast inside of him rattles with fury and he breathes in — inhaling the peppermint notes of her tea, calming his heart with the beat of her own. It is challenging to fight every instinct shouting in his bones with fury, with the oh so very Gryffindor bravado to march into the Slytherin’s nest and seek justice, retribution, anything or anyone to answer for his friend’s pain. His best friend’s pain.
James willingly ignores, for the moment being, the gentle yet exhilarating thought that she may be a lot more to him.
❛ Is it such a horrible truth? I would say it’s a terrific truth.❜ He half jokes, swallowing hard once the touch of her soft lips grazes his knuckles, his beating heart leaping in place. ❛ I am honored, nevertheless, to know you deem me worthy enough to let me find you.❜
He kisses the side of her head lightly, the warmth of both the dancing flames in the fireplace and the heat of the lithe body resting against him surrounding him. It is a sort of bitter sweetness to find the moment so soothing when she is sharing something truly heartbreaking. James may not have blood siblings of his own, but god dammit he has does have brothers - Sirius, Peter and Remus. James cannot fathom the thought that any of them may harm him like Bellatrix Black hurt her own sister. The idea would never cross their minds, of that he is sure.
❛ Have you…are you going to tell them, any of them? ❜
He ventures with wonder, and some cautiousness. James is not certain himself whether it is a good idea or not. The boy is keenly aware of the difficult dynamics with her family, both because of what Cissy and Sirius have shared before in very different tones. The ancient and noble house of Black were not exactly known to be of the supportive kind, and James cannot begin to imagine what sort of chaos this attack - blood against blood - may create within. And yet - James knows Cissy, oh so well by now. The distance between her and her sisters is one he would have noticed even if he didn’t spend every moment he could with the young witch. He knows this hurts her, deeply. And the thought that Cissy’s very own love and loyalty to her family may mean she carries this alone sickens him to no end.
❛ I would never dare to tell you what to do, love, or to pretend to truly understand what you are feeling… I know you love them. And well — the break is just next week. I hate the idea that the only person that you share this with is your good ol’ friend James Potter, miles away. No one deserves to carry that alone, Cissy. ❜
Especially with the sort of company he imagines would be around the Black family's manor, including, unfortunately, Bella herself. For fuck's sake, she would have rather disappear than tell them! Because her own sister nearly killed her. And still, James see no future where his best friend is happy without her family. Her happiness is all he cares for.
❛ What if…❜
A thought occurs inside his messy, curly head and he is hesitant, only for a moment. His beating heart drums hard again against the cage of his chest. Why was it so difficult for him to ask? The Gyffindor shifts lightly on the spot, dragging a hand over his tangled hair before gathering her closer with the hand on her shoulder, as he begins to play mindlessly with a single curl of blond hair between his fingers.
❛ Hells, I also hate the idea that I won’t see you during the break, love. ❜ He adds with a low smile, pulling at the curl in his fingers teasingly. ❛ What if…well, I happen to know of good account that Remus and Andromeda will spend some time in muggle London at the beginning of the spring break, so what if — I don’t know, I could ask him to, kindly, ask her to invite you with whatever excuse, or even… I mean, a few days earlier, I could be…. there. With you… show you around, yeah?... Would you like that? ❜
❛ You know you have me, yeah? ❜
The words are so soft-spoken that the girl might have missed them entirely if not for the closeness of their faces — every pull of oxygen into their lungs taken straight from the breath of the other and given back in kind. When had it become like this, exactly? What hour? What minute? What second? As alone as she's felt and as lost as she feels, this is the only certain thing that Narcissa knows: Being here with James Potter, feeling the brush of his mouth against her brow and the featherlight tickle of his fingertips along her ear, is as natural as breathing.
Even here - having lost her grasp on everything that once mattered to her most ( her family, her security, her comfort ) - she still has him as her friend. The young snake still hasn't decided if it's all some cosmic joke or if maybe, just maybe, the universe has finally given her something good. Regardless, she wouldn't be a Slytherin if she didn't take advantage of whatever time they had.
❝ Don't tempt me, Potter. ❞ The warning is simultaneously both half-hearted and half-honest, her serpentine body shifting and coiling to better fit the blonde's rightful place outside the storm. Curled into his side, Narcissa wraps her arms around the lion's torso and rests her tired head between his shoulder and chest. The sound of his heartbeat is a welcome symphony after all this time running away from the noise in her own head. ❝ Forever sounds pretty great to me right now. ❞
She presses herself into James' warmth and breathes in the all too familiar scent of his cologne, basking in the golden radiance of his sunlight for this one brief moment.
There's nothing there for her to say at first — not really. Narcissa could as soon as ask the boy at her side not to let himself be burdened by the crippling weight of responsibility as she could ask the sun not to shine. Certainly, she'd like to but the endeavor would ultimately prove useless. What happened to her isn't his fault and now they both know the truth of it. There isn't anything he could have done and, for better or worse, there's no coming back from it either. They can only move forward from here on out. Even so, despite her own temperament, the younger witch simply listens and allows her ill-timed hero to get just a little bit of the load off his chest.
❝ I — ❞
She breathes out slowly, taking the tanned hand not occupied with her shoulder between her own. Her index finger traces a path along the lines in his palm that her pale eyes follow but don't quite see. A part of her doesn't want to say it. A part of her needs to.
❝ I didn't want to wake up. ❞ If Narcissa could have wished for anything on that hospital bed, it would have been the end. She hadn't really cared whether that end had presented itself as a white-hot oblivion or an all-consuming darkness. As long as the girl didn't have to open her eyes. Sleeping as she had was as close to it as she could come — what little selfishness her fractured mind would allow. ❝ I can't — I - I couldn't live in a world where my own sister...my own blood... ❞
Just thinking about it hurts. Cuts. Wounds.
❝ Who could I even share that with? Who was I supposed to? ❞ No one. Certainly not him. Even her own family would almost unanimously agree the secret was better kept in her body and left to rot with the other skeletons hidden in their vaults. Family. Family above all else. Narcissa had lived and breathed in service to their name for all of her life. Just being awake now, unburdening herself to someone who neither shares her blood nor her name, feels like a betrayal. But she has to — she has to...
❝ I did. I wanted to disappear. ❞ The admission comes at last, slender fingers turning over the hand still caught between her own. ❝ I wanted to be stubborn and just - just float in the nothingness. It was so quiet. This empty void where I didn't have to think or feel — or pretend that I didn't. ❞ No eyes to watch her. No whispering tongues. A wistful sigh escapes the poor girl at the thought even though she's obviously decided to return to it all.
❝ But then you were there — and you're so much more stubborn than I am. ❞ She chuckles, the sound bordering on affectionate. ❝ Even when I didn't want to see or hear...I still felt you. Warm. Real. I knew you were there, right there by my side. ❞ Plush lips ghost over the knuckles in her grasp, mirroring the foggy memory.
❝ I suppose the horrible truth of it is that I just can't stay somewhere I wouldn't want you to follow. ❞

Lily and Remus would perhaps be best equipped to understand how dangerous Regulus might be, Remus for the reasons you mentioned and Lily because she gets having a toxic relationship with your sibling, she knows loving your sibling does not automatically mean that the relationship is good and healthy (she even knows that one sibling loving the other doesn’t mean it’s reciprocated). Part of the sourness from Petunia was that Lily had this special gift but Petunia didn’t, and there’s no guarantee Regulus wouldn’t resent Sirius for being the heir while Regulus is the spare by crime of birth; of course, Lily does not have the necessary background on the House of Black to truly understand what Regulus might be capable of, she might heard some rumors and maybe a couple offhand mentions from Sirius, but she has no idea the full scope of the family’s unhinged-ness, and there’s nobody who can tell her. The Marauders have no true interaction with the Blacks outside of Sirius and perhaps view Sirius in a better light than he truly should be seen in; I doubt James’s parents would tell James the more horrifying rumors about the Blacks when his best friend is a Black, and Peter and Remus are both half-bloods, it’s doubtful their magical parents had the necessary exposure to the Blacks’ circle to learn what might be going on with the family currently. Anyone at the school that’s actually close to the Blacks, who know what the family is like and how that impacts how Regulus will interact and view Sirius’s friends (who Regulus blames for Sirius being a blood-traitor/on the path of being considered one [can one be viewed as a blood-traitor and then come back?]), aren’t people that Lily can speak to, since they share Regulus’s blood supremacy views. She can hardly swan up to Evan Rosier/Rabastan Lestrange/whoever and say, “Hey, wanna tell me all the nitty-gritty details of the Black family? I’m concerned about what Regulus will do”
Oo, yes, Lily is uniquely positioned to have an accurate read on Regulus (and she's going to be integral to this narrative). I love the Lily-Petunia Sirius-Regulus parallels so much, honestly (it's part of what really drew me into Regulily). There's the jealousy aspect, the fact that Lily was the special one for her magic and Sirius special for being the heir, and then there's also the sense of loss. Lily leaves Petunia for a boarding school that Petunia is not allowed to go to. Petunia wants to go with Lily and isn't accepted. I think at that point her bitterness was as much about feeling abandoned by Lily as it was about feeling jealous. And Sirius, too, goes where Regulus cannot follow: to the Potters (to be fair, Regulus didn't try to go with Sirius like Petunia did, but for his own reasons he cannot follow).
I also think that Lily's connection with Snape would give her some insight into the Black family. Of course, Snape has a negative bias against the Blacks (because of Sirius and, I imagine, because they're the type to pull rank and I'm sure that rankles). That combined with the fact that Lily is muggle-born and can't afford to play games with the future Death Eaters of Britain means that she's probably the most cautious of the lot of them around Regulus. Still vulnerable, in her own way, but she understand the potential danger that Regulus poses.
But *sigh* James really should know better. Out of all of them, he really should know what he's dipping his toes into when he gets involved with Regulus. He is the pureblood from an old wizarding family, he has the most exposure to that world and what it looks like, but his worldview is so narrow that it leaves him vulnerable.

K. Heard no more is currently a favorite. I just read it again last night. I am in the process of attempting to make my sibling read it (although they are unsure about angst without a clear happy ending)
I absolutely love how Virgil is so certain that everything is fake. That in the beginning, it must just be a dream, tormenting him with what he cannot have. Then when he's picking everything apart, certain it's an illusion. The timing Remus had, coming in and accidentally making things worse. I freakin love that scene. Bc he looks like Roman, but wrong. He's asking for information that to anyone else seems haress, but is everything to Virgil. And Virgil will not hurt his friends, even if he thinks they wouldn't return the favor
The fact that Virgil sees their concern and their caution around him and uses that as a reason none of this could be real.
But even though he didn't believe it, he can't help but worry about them. Most notable to me, was when Virgil went out to the gardens and Roman was opening up a little and was obviously sad. And Virgil absolutely believes this is a trick. There's no way Roman would be this vulnerable with him. But he still reaches out and tries to comfort him. It's only giving in a little
His ptsd flashbacks are further proof that none of this is real. The one with Patton wanting to steal cookies turning into his Eminence strangling him was so amazingly well done that I was really confused for a minute
When Logan mentions helping him heal, helping him relearn how to be ok, it just fills Virgil with dread. Bc he knows that once he heals it'll be so much worse to have everything taken away
Ask the snippets of conversations he hears, the whole thing with the journal, all the history/world building stuff. It's just wow. I really enjoyed it, and I've read it a number of times. If you ever write more for that au,I would love to read it. But I really enjoy rereading it over and over <3
Thank you so much for taking time of your day to write this ask! It definitely made my day :)
I definitely do plan on an eventual happy ending to this AU with future installments, so the ending of Hear No More isn't the true ending, just the ending of that particular part. I understand though if potential readers want to wait until it's complete to read it all.
I've been working on this AU since 2018, it's just as much near and dear to my heart as Gibbous. Heard No More is actually a part of a second draft for the AU. The first draft is 27k in total, but for example--Heard No More? The entirety of Heard No More was originally 2k in the original draft. So I can imagine the final draft being close to 60k, which would be one of the longest completed works I've done to date outside of the entirety of Crescent/Gibbous.
I'm really happy to hear that Virgil's inner turmoil translated well--ngl, I was really concerned that the fic would be too dark or that it would be too hard for a reader to follow along. I wanted it to be a bit disorienting at times (such as the Patton scene you mentioned!) but still coherent. Like looking at a pile of puzzle pieces and being able to kinda see what the final image of the puzzle might be.
The main inspiration for this fic is I wanted to explore an angst trope common in fanfics (MC gets kidnapped and tormented by their captors) but specifically addressing the aftermath/recovery of that trope rather than have that be the main focus. So Virgil definitely has more healing to do in future parts <3
#kat answers#anon#this ask inspired me to reread the original draft because its been a while#and wow yeah i forgot how much I expanded upon in Heard No More#literally i turned 300 words until like 10k#absolutely wild#also remus didnt exist when i first wrote this au#and janus was originally the villain but dont worry he's been relegated to a different role#it was 2018 what can i say it was very much different times#btpomt au#<- that's the tag for the main AU of Heard No More#aka By The Pricking of My Thumbs

Arch Enemies {M.M}
Marlene McKinnon x Female!reader ; marauders era
summary: where two long-time rivals realize how thin the line between love and hate really are after an unfortunate quidditch incident.
word count: 3.4k ish
contains: angst, fluff, a heated kiss?, side of wolfstar,
a/n: i didn’t re-read it bc I'm lazy. Also if people could drop some wlw angsty harry potter recs that would be phenomenal.
· · · ∞ · · · · · · ∞ · · · · · · ∞ · · · · · · ∞ · · ·
Marlene McKinnon has been your rival since as far back in your Hogwarts years as you can remember. Always at each other’s heads. Always a competition between the two of you. Always striving to be better than the other.
The two of you made just about everything a competition. Chess Matches. Pranking. Grades. Eating. Walking. Detentions (you almost got kicked out of Hogwarts that year.)
Anything that could somehow be made competitive, you two competed. And while you tended to beat her with grades, she often beat you in things that took place outside of the classroom.
The Marauders, apparently, have been placing bets and keeping track of your wins against one another. Lily even claims that one time she walked into their room unexpectedly and caught them writing on a poster on their wall that had both your names in big letters on each side and a series of tallies below each with dates and event names on the bottom, but as soon as they saw her one of them casted a spell to make it disappear.
This year was no different. You knew it was stupid to believe that maybe, just maybe, you’d be able to try out for the quidditch team without Marlene fighting you for the same spot. You have no real desire to be on the quidditch team, quite honestly, but your older siblings play quidditch, your parents played quidditch, your aunts, your uncles, your cousins, your grandparents, your great-grandparents.
You have a quidditch family and you do not want to can not disappoint them.
The hope that Marlene may leave you alone for this one was shattered, as you expected it to be, when you walk into the team's locker room, a bag of quidditch gear in your hand. “Y/L” Marlene spoke as soon as her eyes met yours. Her eyes widened more than usual, a change most people don’t notice, but then again, you’re not most people. You know Marlene better than anyone else, you’ve memorized the meaning of every look in her eyes, every curve of her lips, every flick of her hands. You know her brain, how she works, what she is thinking, for the most part at least because right now you found yourself momentarily confused by the surprise lacing her voice. Why is she so surprised? Did she not expect you to be there? Your thoughts are cut short when the blonde standing at the other side of the room clears her throat in an attempt to reactive her favorite tone of voice when speaking to you, cockiness, “you going for the beater position too?”
“Yea,” you respond, walking over to one of the lockers.
“May the best player win,” you continued unpacking your bag, putting on the final touches to your uniform, but you didn’t need to look at her to know that she was smirking as she spoke, you could hear it clear enough in her voice.
She awaited a snarky response from you, you know that, but you didn’t want to waste your energy on a catfight right now. Your anxiety is already through the roof, there is enough pressure on you at the moment that you feel like your brain physically cannot handle any more conflict, so you ignore her.
Her eyes burn holes into your body as you continue to pull your knee pads on. Eventually, the door opens and you listen to her steps as she walks out of the locker room, closing the door with a slam and leaving you all alone.
It’s not long before you’re 100% ready for tryouts. You stare at yourself in the bathroom mirror for a moment before leaving. Taking deep breaths in an attempt to calm your nerves. Calm your mind. It helps a little bit, but maybe not enough.
· · · ∞ · · ·
“Y/L! Watch out!” is the last thing you hear before everything goes black.
The tryouts were going great, James was the captain this year and after stealing a glance at his little sheet, you could tell that you were going to beat Marlene out for this spot.
You should’ve been happier with that knowledge than you were, but somewhere deep down you almost wanted Marlene to beat you. This wasn't what you wanted and by the look in her eyes, you knew that this was what she wanted. A strange feeling arose in your chest each time she looked at you during tryouts, her eyes conveyed a message you hadn’t seen her wear yet and all you wanted to do was decode it. To understand why her eyes looked… sad? Almost. Like she knew you were going to beat her and she was upset about it. She’s never been upset before, always a team player. She took her losses as they came and just vowed to beat you next time. But for some reason… for some reason this was different.
· · · ∞ · · ·
Marlene’s Pov:
You looked so pretty. Flyaway hairs and a look of determination on your face as you swatted away Bludgers so effortlessly. She loved quidditch, but she wasn't as good as you. Jealous, not because you’ll win whatever competition the two of you are probably making out of this, but jealous because she knows she won’t get the position she’s been working her ass off for. Lost in thought she doesn't even notice the bludger coming towards her, luckily she hits it just in time, but then… Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Marlene watched as the bludger tumbled straight towards you, “Y/L! Watch out,” was all she could get in before it hit you right in the head.
· · · ∞ · · ·
The first thing you felt when you woke up was an intense pounding in your skill that caused an unconscious groan to leave your mouth. As you increasingly became aware your head began hurting more and more. You went to bring your hand up to rub your eyes in an attempt to wake yourself up when you felt another hand on yours. Opening your eyes only increased your headache, but the desire to know whose hand was holding yours overruled the pain. Their hand was soft, warm, it felt like … like home. That's the only word you could find in this pain-forsaken state to properly describe the feeling.
The blur of a person who held your hand made you think you were crazy. You found yourself blinking a few times in attempts to clear your vision, not initially trusting your eyes and barely trusting them now as you see Marlene McKinnon's hand, holding yours.
Marlene McKinnon.
Your arch-nemesis?
The one who practically hates you?
Yea… her.
What the fuck.
Why is she holding your hand… and why do you never want her to let go?
You can feel your lips curve up into an unconscious smile as you stare at the place where her hand connects with yours before roaming your eyes up to her figure to her sleeping face being held up by her other hand, elbow resting on her armchair next to your bed. She looks so peaceful, so beautiful, and you wonder why you’ve never noticed how gorgeous she was before. How her lips look so soft and her skin so smooth. The way the waning gibbous moonlight shines into the room from the large infirmary windows and lights her face up in a way you’ve never seen in before and in that moment you want nothing more than to stare at her face like that forever. You don’t even notice your other hand moving up to touch her face until you hear a voice whisper from a few beds over from yours. “Oh, you’re up.” Startled, you feel like you were just caught committing a crime and immediately pull your hand back to where it was before. Marlene shifts in her sleep from your quick movements and you’re watching this moment slip through your fingers, silently begging whatever runs the universe to let you stay in this moment just a little bit longer. Thankfully, they answer and Marlene stills, returning to her peaceful sleep. “Don’t worry, Lils says she sleeps like a log.”
You giggle at these words, turning to face Remus with a smile, “yea, she does. We can never get her up in the morning.” “It’s the same with Sirius. He never wants to wake up.” The two of you giggle quietly, afraid to wake up anyone in the castle this late at night, especially the girl sitting beside you. You talk about Remus first, asking if the full moon the night before was really that bad that Pomfrey made him stay overnight again and if he's okay. He assures you that he is fine and redirects the conversation to you, “What about you? Are you okay?”
“I don’t even know what happened to me,” you tell him, “or why my head hurts so much or why M-” you pause, now looking at the girl. You’re scared of speaking the words out loud, afraid it may reveal that her presence is only a dream or a figment of your imagination and that you will sound crazy if you speak about it.
“Or why Marlene is here, holding your hand.” Remus finishes your sentence.
“Or that.” you turn your gaze back to Remus, now wishing the moon was a little darker so your close friend can’t see the blush that is surely on your face.
“Well to answer your first questions,” started Remus, “You got hit with a bludger during tryouts, Marlene and Sirius rushed u in here while I was taking a nap - thanks for that by the way”
“Sorry” you giggled
“- and then Sirius went back to practice, as for McKinnon there, she refused to leave. I think she feels bad cause she's the one that hit you. Pomfrey said you probably have a concussion which means you can’t … well you can’t play quidditch this year.” You should be focusing on the quidditch part, it was something you were working so hard for, but you can’t stop your mind from trailing off to her. Is she only here because she feels bad? Or is there more to it? You hope it's more. You’re not sure when these feelings came to fruition, but they’re there now and you’re worried about getting your hopes up because it means risking yourself getting let down.
“I think she likes you,” you take a minute to process the werewolves' words, glancing between the blonde’s head and her hand.
“You think so?” you say with a hopeful smile.
“I think she’s liked you since first year and you’re just too oblivious to realize it,” you look up with him, your confused face causing a slight chuckle to leave his lips, “I’m observant, you know that but it's not that difficult to see how in love you two are, even though you act like you hate each other. I think she knows what she feels,” you both glanced at the girl, “and I think you just figured out what you feel.”
You smile at his words. “I think you’re right,” you admit, too tired to be stubborn and reject what your heart says is a fact.
“Just wait till January to tell everyone please, I have a bet going with the boys and- “ Suddenly the door to the infirmary opens, Remus goes quiet with confusion and Marlen begins to stir from the noise. She’s really waking up this time, you immediately close your eyes, unsure of what else to do or even say to her. You can feel her eyes on your face, her hand holding yours. “Good morning sleepyhead,” remarked Remus. You curse out his name in your head as you feel Marlene’s hand immediately rip out of yours. All you want to do is look at her face, read her mind. Was she embarrassed? Ashamed? Your mind went to the worst.
“How’s the girlfriend?” marked a new voice, Sirius. Of course. Who else would come to the infirmary this late other than Sirius to check up on Remus?
“She’s not my girlfriend.” remarked Marlene, her tone sending a brief stab of pain through your own heart, “I don’t even like her,” another stab.
“Yea, okay, and Moonys not my werewolf boyfriend.” You would’ve laughed, hearing the noises of Remus hitting Sirius in response to his words, but your mind was stuck on the words of the girl who was still standing close enough for you to feel the heat radiating off her body.
“I don’t like her,” she said, her words laced with annoyance and anger, “In fact, I hate her. We’re literally enemies.”
“Then why are you here then?” Remus rebutted, he probably meant to be helpful, but the words she spoke next only made your heart ache more.
“Because I’m not a monster! I hit her with the bludger and I felt bad. That’s it. Nothing else.” you were almost thankful when you started to hear her moving around, collecting her stuff, tears were threatening to spill out of your eyes and you didn’t want her to see. “I’m tired so I’m going, goodbye.” And with that you waited, listening to the sounds of her footsteps, getting quieter with each moment. You listened to the opening and closing of the infirmary door and only dared to open your eyes again once you could no longer hear the clicking of her shoes down the hallway.
“You okay?” Remus spoke first, witnessing the silent tears now streaming down your face. You wish you stayed asleep. You wish you never looked at her. Never let yourself feel something you knew she wouldn’t reciprocate. You curse yourself for believing Remus’ hopeful words.
“Fine,” you spoke quietly before turning to your side, the back facing the two boys who get to share the kind of romance you find yourself only able to dream about.
“M’Sorry,” you heard Remus whisper, before the weight of your head and your heart lulled you into a dreamless sleep.
· · · ∞ · · ·
You woke up to Madam Pomfrey's voice urging you awake. Her soft voice reminded you of your mother and made you want to curl up into her arms and cry, Marlene's words last night still resting their weight on your chest. “How are you this morning, love?” she asks, placing a plate of food on the bedside table, you're thankful that she doesn't mention the tear stains that probably made their home on your cheeks last night.
“M’fine,” you mumble, “better.”
“Good, good,” she smiles, handing you a glass of water that you didn’t realize how much you needed until the whole glass was gone in a minute and Madam Pomfrey had to fetch you a new one. “Took a big hit yesterday, that Miss McKinnon has a good arm.” You hum in agreeance, an attempt to not be rude to the elder in front of you, but hearing her name still hurts, the wound of her words still leaving scars on your heart that haven’t even begun to scab. “Speaking of the devil,” the nurse spoke, your head raising up to see Marlene's figure entering the curtain that surrounded your bed. Her hair looked so soft, messier than you usually see it, but you liked it. You couldn’t stop your eyes from travelling down her face, taking in her beauty while she was awake. Bags plagued her beautiful brown eyes, she didn't sleep much last night. Your gaze moved to her lips, the same lips that unknowingly cut scars along your heart mere hours ago. Memories from the night before that you had allowed yourself to forget for a moment returned as fast as they left, returning the heartache that accompanies them. Suddenly, you found the hem of your shirt more interesting, keeping your gaze and your hands on that. “I’ll leave you two alone,” spoke Madam Pomfrey, ignoring the tension-filled silence that laid in the air, “I’d like to keep you here for a little while longer but you should be discharged by dinner,” and with that she left the two of you alone, your breaking heart not even strong enough to look at her.
“Hey,” she spoke first, breaking the silence, but not moving from her spot where she stood at the end of your bed. “Sorry I hit you with a bludger,” she tried to joke, but the tension was too thick that it was just awkward.
“Why are you here?” you ask, a sudden surge of bravery coming from the anger that stems from your sadness.
“Wh-What?”
“Why are you here?” “Because I feel bad? Because I'm not a total bitch and I care about you?” she remarks.
“Why do you care?” your voice grows louder, angrier than you want it, but you’re too stubborn to stop speaking now. “I can’t play anymore, you got the spot on the team, didn’t you? “I mean you said it yourself we’re enemies, right? You hate me?” you continue, repeating her words from last night. “So isn’t this what you wanted? You won. You beat me. Congratulations.”
“So you were eavesdropping?” she asks, her tone attempting to stay angry, but her eyes revealing that look you’re slowly seeing more and more often.
“It’s not eavesdropping if I’m lying right there.”
“Merlin, y/n, I don’t hate you!”
“Liar.”
“You’re so stubborn,” she yells, getting closer to your face.
“If you don’t hate me then why would you say it?” You sat up, both your voices were raising, anger surging through the air.
“Because I don’t hate you! I love you,” she yelled, and then everything went quiet. She loves me? Only now did you realize how close your faces were. Her lips were inches from yours, your ragged breaths intermingled with one another, both of you already exhausted from your previous argument. You looked up from her lips to her eyes, just to find them already staring into yours.
“You what?” you whispered so low that only she could hear it.
“ I-” her eyes were filled with fear. Fear that her feelings won’t be reciprocated. Fear to express the vulnerable emotion that has plagued her heart for how long? You don’t know. So you move forward and capture her lips in yours.
After the initial surprise, Marlene began to kiss you back, her hands finding the back of your neck and your head while yours found her hips. You broke apart too soon for your liking and she rested her forehead on yours. One of your hands moved to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear before speaking. “I love you too.” You watched as her eyes lit up with joy and you couldn’t help but smile. “I get a point on the leaderboard for admitting it first,” she chuckled.
“Mmhm,” you hummed in agreeance leaning forward again so your lips brushed against hers as you spoke, “but I get one for kissing you first.”
“Dammit,” she whispered, before leaning in for another kiss.
· · · ∞ · · ·
“So Gryffindor Beater, huh?” you asked Marlene. The two of you laid together in the infirmary bed, her back pressed up against half of your chest, your arm hanging around her shoulder twirling and untwirling her hair with your one hand while both her hands played with the fingers of your other.
“Yea, James said it’s mine if I want it, but I don’t need to take it if you don’t want me to.”
“No, merlin no,” you said quickly, “I know how much you want that spot, I barely even wanted it. Was only doing it because with my family I felt like I had to.”
“Really?” She looked up at you hopefully, “you don't mind.”
“Nope.” “Promise?”
“Promise.” She gave her a peck on the lips before turning her head around again. “Plus, you’re going to look so hot in that uniform, I feel like I’ll be the real winner in this situation.” Your words earn a loud laugh from the girl in your arms and you feel like you're on cloud 9. You place a quick kiss on her temple and want nothing more than to be the one to make her laugh for the rest of your lives. Lives that you hopefully get to spend together.
Meanwhile…
“Told you so,” he whispered.
“I should’ve kept my mouth shut,” the second boy groaned, placing coins into the other boy's outstretched hand.
“Yea, but look how cute they are, Moony the Matchmaker.”
“Oh shut up Padfoot,” he groaned, “I’m hungry, let's go to dinner.” “Whatever you say handsome,” barked the boy before looping arms with his lover and walking away from the two girls in the infirmary who looked utterly and completely infatuated with one another.

Harry Potter FRED AU (It could not be named anyhow else and you’ll soon know why)
Please bear with me I swear I’ll make the lenght worth it
I also promise this one AIN’T SAD
Few days ago I was taking a nap and when I woke up my half-conscious brain thought about the name Albus Severus again because it’s a terrible name whether he is named after anyone or not. And I thought ‘did Ginny even get any say in it or what the hell’.
I really think that Harry should name their first child (he did) James Sirius, which is fine, Ginny would name their second son and together they would name their little girl (which I think they did).
But then I thought ‘what would she name him?’ Obviously my first thought was Fred, but I was like ‘nah, that one is for George’s kid... unless’
Here comes my AU, imagine it with me:
It is the first 1st of April after the battle, it isn’t very happy for someone’s birthday, then Percy gets an idea. He cannot forget how the last thing he said to Fred made him smile and he refuses to do anything on his birthday that would not achieve the same goal. So he looks at George and proposes this... what if every one of the siblings named at least one of their child Fred or any equivalent of that, if for nothing else than at least for the chaos it will create at Hogwarts. Everyone is silent for so long Percy just wants to take it back and obliviate everyone, but then Fleur stands up to it and gets really passionate about it and then it slowly dawns on everyone and they love it. It is the first time in all those months that George gives them a non-forced smile. Everyone is super into it. Mrs. Weasley is crying because a) she is happy because her boy is smiling again b) she knows she will be super embarrassed if she ever has to talk to McGonagall after she finds out about this and c) she thought Percy was better than this. Nevertheless if it makes George smile again, she won’t be too harsh about it.
It goes something like this (I’m kind of ignoring the cannon children, but whatever):
- Bill and Fleur name their firstborn daughter Frédérique. She had some mean kids try to laugh at her for it because they thought it’s stupid. She shut their mouths pretty quickly.
- Charlie doesn’t have kids. But he did discover a new breed of dragon, which main trait is that it isn’t violent at all, it’s just really mischievious and will mess up with everyone and everything. Charlie names the breed Island Trickster, for both the experts and amateurs the nickname Fred catches on pretty quickly even though majority of people doesn’t know why.
- Percy’s first child is also a girl but he refuses to let anything stop him from naming his child Fred, because a) it was his idea and b) he’ll be damned if anything keeps him from making this prank, that he created in honour of his brother, work. She gets the name Frederica. She hates it and demands her family calling her by her second name. They do and none of them mind, but before she departs for Hogwarts her parents take her aside and explain why they named her this way. Her prankster blood kicks in and from the moment she steps on the train she introduces herself as Frederica, Fred for short.
- George’s first kids are twins, boy and girl. There is no hesitation - their names are immediately Fred and Freda. When they have the second child, there is a mild discussion, but eventually his name is Fredrick. Proud of their legacy, at school neither will respond to anything but Fred. They become Fred & Fred and Fred.
- Ron, who through Hermione discovered Queen, decides to name their son Freddie. Hermione doesn’t see a reason to protest, she loves it.
- Ginny lets Harry name their first son. First, she likes the name James Sirius. Second, whatever happens that child will have prank as their blood type, so there is really no need to add onto that. Third, she is naming their second child and it will be a version of Fred. Harry does not protest at all, because a) he already has his son named after his father and godfather and b) he refuses to stand in the way of this prank. Also Ginny, being the undercover little shit she is, names their son Fred George... everyone keeps calling him Fred and George. They both also talk about naming their daughter Lily Luna Freda or something and they do, it’s just not that public so she can do with that potential whatever she wants.
It also happens that the whole former gryffindor quidditch team joins in on this (including Lee Jordan, who is considered part of the team) as well as bunch of other friends.
Mrs. Weasley is still a little sceptical but she can’t deny that her boy would be proud. Her job also gets a little easier, because now she just automatically makes her grandchildren sweaters with F. Sometimes she makes more of those that she should but the kids love it (cue later).
Meanwhile in heaven James, Sirius and Remus are both really excited and really jealous. Fred is waiting for the chaos to take reign.
As for Hogwarts, most of the professors are losing it sometimes with entertainment (they mostly enjoy it when someone else is in pain because of this and they love to watch it), sometimes with annoyance, sometimes with both and sometimes actually losing it about to break down and cry (especially when some of their colleagues would just watch and smile). Alltogether in all the houses there is about twenty Fred Weasleys (boys, girls, first names, second names) and the Potters (James Sirius, Fred George and Lily Luna) plus the other Freds - all of them there for two or three years, which basically translates into destruction of the highest level.
There are family gatherings frequently at the Burrow, where they all just sit around the table writing letters to their kids and all of them writing one howler.
The howler arrives to a random person, usually a friend of one of the Weasley/Potter kids and the whole Great hall hears, “FRED! WHAT DID YOU DO THIS TIME?!”
All the Fred’s look at each other, because they all did something they shouldn’t (which their parents don’t know, but the kids don’t know they don’t know). No one also knows which Fred it is meant for. No one knows if they are being scolded or messed with.
Very rarely the howler would yell, “FRED WEASLEY”, and in the fat pause after that, every single person in the room can hear, Fred George Potter say “oh, thank Merlin’s nightgown.”
Sometimes the howler would shout, “FRED. I AM SO DISSAPPOINTED IN YOU. YOU WERE NOT GIVEN THIS NAME TO KEEP PEACE AND TRANQUILITY AT THE SCHOOL!” Molly Weasley may or may not scold her children and children-in-law for this one. (Obviously if the kids weren’t into pranking their parents would never force them or out them like this, but since they are all openly on board this happens way too often for the professors’ liking.
Then there is christmas time. Most of the kids leave for home... most of them except for the Weasley/Potters and some of the other Freds, whose parents are friends with the Weasleys. The sweaters come and... every signle one has a F on it. None of the kids protest. They wear it proudly. There are attempts at making fun of them. It doesn’t work.
James walks around announcing to everyone repeatedly and very loudly that his name is Fames Firius Fotter. In the meantime, as long as Lily is wearing her sweater, she refuses to react to anything but Fily or Funa and that includes the teachers.
Everyone tries to resist, everyone breaks down eventually.
McGonagall wants to look stern, but she is loving it.
There is a relatively new professor trying to complain to the colleague sitting next to him. Neville Longbottom, who names his children Frank Fred, Alice Fredricka and Augusta Freda, nods sympathetically while sipping his tea. “I know,” he says. “Imagine if one of them named their kid something like Prank. We would call them a normal name now.”
That is the moment Minerva McGonagall loses it and actually chuckles. Every single one of the kids writes a letter to their parents about that one.
All hell loses all the breaks on April Fools. McGonagall wanted to go easy on punishing the pranks for several reasons and one of them is that it is the twins birthday. It takes one April Fools when the kids take it relatively easy for them to figure out the punichments are quite mild. The next year they go Wild and McGonagall understands that her nostalgia is a dangerous thing. She stops it then and there, because she knows it won’t stop them, it might just stop some people from getting hurt.
Sometimes Peeves won’t have the mood to come up with something himself so he just goes with calling everyone Fred. Some teachers take from it, figuring that if they don’t remember someone’s name it must be because they decided they will deduce it later, which translates to “the name is Fred”.
Years later when the children leave Hogwarts there is formed a new quidditch team. The name is “Flying Freds”. They are all married and stuff, so their last names are all different, but all of them share the name Fred, which only increases the children named Fred, because who wouldn’t name their child after their favourite quidditch team, amiright?
People in both the wizarding and muggle world are astonished as to Why is there suddenly such a popularity to the name, while in the afterlife Fred won’t stop saying shit like “The students have surpassed the teachers.” and the Marauders are both upset they didn’t manage something like that, but also impressed and really loving it.
McGonagall once talks about it with George and he says it was Percy’s idea. Percy, always perfect prefect Percy, blushes as McGonagall looks at him and says: “All those years I was worried you aren’t an actually Weasley and you’ve just been hiding all that potential, hm.”
It is that moment they understand she might have always been strict, but she loved those little and big pranks simply because they were creative and smart and she was always so proud of the Marauders and the twins for it.

Thomas, in one of his last posts, gave a little hint on what to expect in the new Aside video. And I'm wondering if these words changed your theory about what might happen in this episode?
Mmmh... partially? Thomas basically confirmed Remus will be in the next Aside and Logan was also confirmed somewhere. So the characters are the ones I guessed.
But yes, he gave us something interesting to think about with this tweet - and possibly the setting of the next Aside:
Since Thomas mentioned quarantine and working on what he experienced during that period, it's very plausible quarantine will be the setting of the next episode. And, well, this would explain why Remus and Logan will figure in the Aside: during quarantine, the general mood oscillated between “I must use this time to be productive” and “I AM HORNY”.
Jokes aside, this could lead to an interesting episode. Maybe, in the Sanders Sides timeline, Thomas' first meeting with Nico happened just before quarantine started. So, when the episode starts, it's already been several months before they met the first time. Thomas might be sulky and sad, because he's still able to see and talk to Nico thanks to phones/computers, but cannot hang out with him face to face.
This would be the perfect chance for both Remus and Logan to show up: Logan would explain to Thomas, thanks to the actual, reassuring facts, that he's extremely lucky. He's lucky he can see and talk to Nico - while many others cannot even see their parents, siblings or partners. He's lucky he's healthy and not struggling for his life in a hospital bed. He's lucky he's not forced to go out during a pandemic, maybe because of some heartless employer. He's lucky he's born on the right side of the world (more or less).
On the other hand, there would be Remus. And Remus would force Thomas to face his actual, more instinctual desires: he wants to be with Nico (even physically, why not? It would be a nice way to hint at Remus' secondary role as embodiment of Thomas' sexual urges). He wants to meet his friends. He wants to smash things around and run outside screaming. He wants to do all of it, because he's scared for himself and his loved ones, because this is something way bigger than him, because he's just one and he can't do anything.
This would be the perfect chance for Logan to reassure Thomas and, at the same time, help him understand Remus' urges. He would offer Thomas support and explanations about why he feels so powerless during this situation and how he can do his part to help.
It would be a nice way to help (and support) all the people who suffered during quarantine - and it would be a great way to make Logan and Remus bond more. Once again, Logan would acknowledge Remus' way to express his frustration, welcome it and find an outlet for it - maybe by directing Remus' frustration into a much more creative process. And this might also help Thomas accept Remus more, why not? I would like to see it.
Then the episode can end with Nico and Thomas planning their next meeting, face to face, once quarantine is over. A meeting that might take place during part 1 and 2 of the next Sanders Sides episode.
So... yes, this changes my original plan: I doubt Thomas would meet Nico's family, but their next meeting can still lead to an issue of some kind - maybe just if Thomas is truly ready to start this relationship with Nico.
There can be a confrontation between Sides who think Thomas isn't ready yet (mainly Virgil and possibly Janus/Logan) and Sides who are absolutely on board with that (mainly Roman and possibly Patton/Remus). Considering the current situation, Roman could be absolutely not okay with these people siding with him and even less with his only friend at the moment (Virgil) siding against him and with the side he hates most (Janus). There is still the chance of a very heated confrontation and oh boy, I am 200% ready for it.
But even if that wouldn't be the main theme of the next episode, I am still sure there will be a huge discussion, the sides involved will end up siding against Roman and he will feel so devastated by everyone "abandoning" him, to sink out and lock himself away.
Of course this is all speculation. I don’t pretend to guess correctly the plot of the next Aside or the season finale - also considering we have almost nothing. And that's okay, I want to be surprised by every trick Mr. Sanders has up his sleeve.
Speaking of the Asides, someone told me there is not going to be a third Aside. I haven't found anything to confirm this, but if it's true, then I would be very sad. We got one Aside for Roman and Virgil, one for Logan and Remus and no Aside for Patton and Janus? That's not very sexy (nor symmetric) from you, Mr. Sanders. If you wants to make amends, season finale part 1 should be at least 1 hour long, otherwise I'll be very very sad ;P

call me your love
chapter 2
master list
unedited
hi ya’ll its been a while I found drafts but I've been so uninspired I hope you enjoy
Two summers ago your mother caught you talking to a kitchen boy your age. Bellatrix had pulled you by the ear to your room.
“You stupid girl,” she spat. Her words usually lacked love but more so in this moment. “You are above those boys, you cannot speak to them. You would be painted a whore if any of our friends found out. “ “But mother-”
“Or worse you could be like your aunt Andromeda,” she slapped you “That whore eloped with a servant boy, already with a child. Got herself disowned. Do you want that?”
“No mother,” you cried silently cradling your stinging cheek.
Your mother walked out looking satisfied with herself and the lesson she taught.
* * *
You started at the woman your mother only talked about to tell you the life you shouldn’t live, she was poised much like your aunt Narcissa and mother. But her demeanor was friendlier.
“Mum made me put on a dress to meet you,” Nynphodora rolled her eyes.
“Yes, Dora loves to parade around in trousers.” Andromeda laughed.
Sirius stood up, “I’m sure you Ladies have much to talk about, I’ll leave you.”
You sat in silence for a moment.
“Dear, i'm not sure what your mother told you about me, but we are family.” Andromeda looked sad.
“I haven't had much of that since my marriage.” she obviously sensed your hesitation, “sweetheart, I understand your mother may have spoken Ill of me but-”
“I’m sorry, I can't say I trust my mothers word,” you hesitated. “But I don’t know you.”
“Would you like to know us?” Nyphodora asked.
You didn’t know what else to do but nod to the women, letting them talk soon, finding the company welcome.
That night you sat in the tub with warm water. Ginny had a jug and soap she used to help you wash.
“Ginny?”
“Yes Y/N?” She put them down to talk to you.
“Thank you for today,” you smiled. It was one of the few days that you had felt happy and truly free.
“It’s nothing you should thank me for,” she smiled, bringing the soap to your shoulder. “You are a part of this house, one of us.”
Ginny finished helping you get ready for bed, braiding your hair over your shoulder.
** *
The next morning brought excitement and nerves. Hermione Granger was to come be your tutor starting today.
When Ginny woke you up you insisted on getting ready right away. Ginny found your eagerness amusing.
Down at breakfast sipped your tea impatiently, Hermione should be here any moment. When you heard a knock at the door you got up with Ginny.
At the door Hermione and Lupin stood on the front porch. The two entered.
“Hermionie,” Ginny jumped to hug the girl. “Come on you two can work in the library.”
You followed Ginny as well not knowing where the library was yourself. The room was large with books covering walls from top top to bottom, two desks in the room along with a couch.
Hermionie made herself comfortable on the desk motioning for you to sit opposite of her.
“Show me what you already know,” she smiled at you.
You had insisted Hermione join you and the Weasley siblings for lunch outside. Unlike last time the lot of you sat at the large table that was directly outside.
You, Ginny and Hermionoe were the first to the table, the three of you talked as Molly, Aurthor, and Charlie brought in lunch.
When the twins and Ron joined you they all Happily greeted her. You took note that Ron was noticeably red in the face as he shyly said hi to your tutor. Fred and George sat on either side of you. Freds eyes were taking in your features as you observed the two older teens.
You felt a breath on your ear as Fred whispered, “Ronnie has fancied ‘mionie since they were kids.”
You turned to see his eyes on you intently, you matched his gaze. “Sometimes childhood sweethearts stick with us for longer than you would think.”
“I wouldn't know.”
“Me neither,” you turned back to your food.
Sirius, Harry and Remus joined the rest of you. “Y/N, Harry got an invitation that was extended to you. The Diggory’s are hosting a party next weekend. Their son Cedric is back from school.”
Ginny and Hermionie giggled a bit, “Cedric is quite handsome, oh I can't wait to see what you wear.”
Fred scoffed, “he’s not that handsome.”
“Don't worry brother, you're still pretty.” George announced making everyone giggle.
“I’d be delighted to go, Harry?” you smiled at him.
“Cedric is a friend I’m excited to see.” he gave you a smile.
As promised afternoons were free. You ginny, and now Hermione spent an hour outside with tea and some sweet treats that were snuck from the kitchen.
“One of the twins keeps watching you miss Lestrange,” Hermionie giggled. The three of you turned to the stables to see one one of the redheads turn and return to the stable.
“That's Freddie,” Ginny bit into a biscuit. “He thinks she’s pretty, Charlie thinks he fancies her, but he denies it.”
“Gin,” you hushed her, feeling a blush creep up your chest. “That's silly.”
“No, I saw how he looked at you during lunch,” Hermionie stated.
“Maybe if we're talking about the weasley boys fancying someone we should be talking about you.” you defended, “Ronald seems rather taken with you Granger.”
“That's not news,” she blushed prettily. “When we were eleven he used to bring flowers to my fathers shop once a week.”
“He couldn’t even utter a word according to Charlie,” Ginny laughed.
That night you were in a tub filled with warm water as Ginny worked soaps and oil into your hair. Thinking about your day. “Gin, does Frederick really think i'm pretty?”
“Oh merlin, he doesn't shut up about you.” Ginny rolled her eyes pulling a bowl of water over your hair.
“oh, “ you clicked your tongue. Your cheeks warmed up thinking of the handsome boy who took care of the horses. What you couldn’t see was Ginny’s curious stare.
You settled into bed with one of the books Hermione left you on a reading list. You knew enough for her to teach you bigger things, like history and she even promised next week they’d start french lessons.
* * *
It was the next day during your afternoon off that you went to the stables to see Bella. George was there, he greeted you with a soft smile and nod.
“Hi George, can I brush bella?” you were hesitant the younger twin didn’t take to you like the others did.
“Of course miss, brushes are hung in that shelf, bellas has a b on it.”
You smiled as you went into her stable slowly. “Hi Bells.” you took the brush through her silky dark hair. The horse made an appreciative sound. “I began reading a book last night, it's by a woman author Hermionie told me to read…”
You talked mindlessly to the horse, Ginny had work to do and Hermionie had to go to help with the store. But you happily took the animals company, having visited the piglets and charlie earlier in the day.
“I just don't understand how a woman can find a man so hung up on status impossibly charming,” you put the brush down and the horse huffed and you almost swore she agreed.
“So status isn’t everything to you then?” you turned to see Fred looking amused.
“Fredrick, how long have you been there?” you jumped slightly at the smug smirk that appeared on his freckled face.
“Long enough,” he shrugged, moving towards the saddles. “I'm going on a ride, care to join me? Or would you rather talk to her?”
“I’ll join.” you smiled seeing he already got the saddle out for you and began putting it on. You went in your skirt, your mother would have died all over again seeing you be alone with a servant boy, your skirt hiked up to your knees.
You smiled as the two of you rode in silence. A path you hadn’t gone on before, a few minutes trotting down the road the two of you reached a house. Or what you assumed was a house, the first two floors looked fairly normal but the rest looked as though someone had built it sideways.
“What is this place?” you were the first to speak.
“Home,” he smiled looking at it. There was a sense of pride in his voice almost as though he made it himself. “I mean it’s not the pretti-”
“It's wonderful,” you stopped him. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
He smiled again, halting the horses outside the house, by the time you followed he was already off. Ready to help you down from the stead.
You took his hand going down with much less grace than you had hoped. He helped stedy you by offering his elbow as you walked towards the house with him.
Walking in you were hit with a warmth you didn’t even feel in cousin sirius’ house. The table was a slight mess, there were half knit projects on a wonky rocking chair.
“Wait here I just wanted to get my art supplies and Georgie wanted his journal,” he dashed up the stairs. You looked around, you noticed papers scattered across the dining room table.
A boy entered who looked older than the twins. “And you are?”
“Y/N Lestrange, I take it you're one of the weasleys that do not work at my cousin's house.”
He raised an eyebrow and rolled his eyes. “Percy. What are you doing here?”
“I joined Fredrick on a ride,” you smiled brightly. “Are you working?”
“Yes papers,” he never dropped his gaze. “Im working with the bank manager fudge, i'm hoping to take a place by his side. My family seems to waste time playing house for someone else whil-”
“Oy, Percy, stop being rude.” Fred stood at the foot of the stairs, a harsh frown crossing his boyish features. He moved towards you quickly, his hand gently finding its way around your wrist. “We shall be leaving, percy had a nice time meeting you, miss lestrange hopes never to cross your path again. See you after dinner perce.”
Fred slammed the door behind the two of you. “Well he was lovely.”
“He thinks he’s above the rest of us.” Fred bit out while housing you onto bella. “The way that he thought to talk down about us in front of you is-”
“Fred, i think the world of your family” you cut him off causing his eyes to snap to you. “Your mother and sister spend the days with me,your father is wonderfully curious charlie has one of the biggest hearts, Ron is harry's best friend and you and george are some of the only people to genuinely make me smile. No one is capable of changing the fact that I have an insane amount of adoration for you weasleys.”
The two of you were approaching the farm once more, Ginny was frantically waving you over.
Fred rushed to help you off.
“Y/N, Harry has a guest in the tea room and he is eager to meet you.” Ginny bounced up and down excitedly. “I laid out a dress for you, we need to hurry.”
She grabbed your arm as you waved goodbye to a conflicted looking Fred.
Ginny quickly put you into a lacy light green gown and repidded some of your curls before pushing you back out your door.
You rushed to the door right outside of the tea room, taking a moment to breathe and adjust yourself.
You walked in with a poise that would nearly impress your mother. Sitting on a chair across from Harry was a handsome young man, dressed in a nice brown suit, he had a charming grin. His eyes brightened once you made your presence known.
“Miss lestrange,” he held a hand out that you gently placed yours into, he placed a soft kiss to the back of it.
“I seem to be at a disadvantage. You know my name but I do not know yours.” you held eye contact with him.
You heard harry sigh, “Y/N this is Cedric Diggory, Cedric this is Y/N lestrange.”
Cedric let go of your hand as you broke his gaze to look at harry. “I didn’t know we were going to have company today harry.”
“That is my fault,” Cedric smiled easily. “I heard about your arrival to the black manor and wanted to visit for myself, but seemed to forget my manners in my rush.”
“And how do the two of you know each other?”
Ginny entered with a tea tray handing everyone a cup.
“Cedric moved here a little over four years ago, he studied with me until he found his own tutor.” Harry smiled at Ginny as she handed him a cup. Their fingers brushed and his cheeks colored lightly.
“The real reason i'm here is to invite you to your first official party since you arrived. Harry has been coming for sometime now but I wanted to personally invite you as well.”
You smiled at this, the only parties you had been to were the ones that your mother paraded you around at making you dance with the snobbish sons of her equals.
“Cousin Sirius brought this up, I would be delighted to go mr. diggory .”

Secrets of the Darkened Seas

Welcome to Chapter 6! I would like to say a special thank you to my best friend and co-author Olivia ( @asunshinepuff ) for inviting me to work on this story with her. As you may have noticed, we have decided to change on how we release the chapters of our story. We will be alternating from my blog to @asunshinepuff‘s blog.
These chapters contain many original characters created by Olivia and myself. All credit for our creations goes to each other for our respective characters because we have both worked so hard to bring these character to life and I would never dare to take credit for any of Olivia’s characters.
As always there is mermaid lore hidden within the storyline. The included lore on different types of merfolk will be taken from the book “The Secret World of Mermaids” by Francine Rose. We are taking no credit for her work. The different types of mermaids will be explained later so don’t worry. We have also taken the liberty of creating some of own original types of merfolk.
Now without further adieu!
Chapter 6: The Return of the White Sea Serpent
Min-Jun glared at the sleeping form of Sirius Black. He had returned to the ship in the dead of night, Quinn, Opal and Remus all quickly rushed to explain what had occurred earlier that night. And now, they waited for the Captain’s Verdict.
“Let’s just throw him overboard.” Remus suggests simply. His arms were crossed as he glared at the unconscious man.
“To throw him overboard would require him to be alive, Remus.” Min-Jun spoke.
“He doesn’t have to be.” Remus smiled.
Min-Jun shook his head in amusement with his young ward. He looked back to Sirius.
“No, he came looking for his young brother.” He stood from his seat, looking to Remus and Quinn. “I will give him the antidote, I wish to question him. He may be the key to finally be rid of those Black Pirates.”
“I agree.” Quinn replied with a curt nod. “We should keep an eye on him though, if he came here solely for Regulus, he might attempt to kidnap his brother himself.” He continued, leaning against the wooden wall of the infirmary.
“Tha ítan anóito na apagágei ton aderfó tou.” Would be foolish to abduct his brother. Opal mumbled under her breath, prompting Quinn to give her a look with raised eyebrows. Really?
“And that task falls to you, Remus.” Min-Jun looked at the younger man. “He will be under your care. Do your best not to strangle him.” Without another word, the Captain reached into his coat, pulling a small thin vial from his pocket. He pried Sirius’ jaw open, poured the contents into his mouth, and rubbed his neck to force Sirius to swallow.
“It will take some time before it starts taking effect. He should be fine at noon later today.”
With nothing else left to say, the captain left them to it.
Remus was not happy with being on babysitting duty. He didn’t mind watching Regulus and Tadase because they were actual children, not an annoying over egotistical adult. Tadase and Regulus were sweet boys, Sirius just made Remus want to smash his face with a hammer. So in order to calm himself, Remus went in search of the boys because they always somehow managed to calm him down.
“Your brother is here Regulus,” Remus spoke softly. Tadase rested in his lap, playing with the tassel on the hilt of his sword. Remus looked at Regulus, the boy tensed up.
“...” Regulus lowered his head down, avoiding Remus’ eyes.
“Do you want to see-”
“NO!” Regulus shouted. Tadase startled, covering his ears at the older child’s scream.
Remus gawked back at the boy, frowning lightly. “Regulus, don’t shout. You startled Tadase.”
Chastised, Regulus looked down to his lap. Remus sighed softly pausing for a brief moment, “Alright, if he asks to see you, I’ll keep him away.”
“He knows I’m here?” Regulus’ eyes widen like discs.
“He came here for you.” Remus replied with a nod.
“...why?” Regulus frowned as if he had eaten something sour.
“Because he loves you.”
Regulus snapped his head to Brielle, Remus also looked to the older mermaid, she was sitting on a chair, her lessons in walking were slow but steady. Her black hair had been tied into a braid by Opal, she wore a simple flowy blue dress, her feet were covered in flats with lace tied around her ankles. Her dark eyes watched Regulus’ stormy blue ones.
“No he doesn’t,” Regulus glared, “He left me alone…”
Brielle tilted her head, her eyes shifted to silver. “Sometimes, people have to leave… but they come back. And he does love you.”
“How do you know? You never even met him.” Brielle smiled, as if she knew a secret Regulus didn’t. She montined her hand for Regulus to come closer. “I do know, do you want to know how?”
Regulus eyed her skeptically, eventually the young boy nodded his head. He walked over to the mermaid. She easily lifted the boy to her lap. Her silver eyes only seemed to intensify. Slowly, her clawed hands inched toward the sides of his face.
“Because Sirius and I are the same.”
Regulus frowned. “No, you're nice, Sirius is mean.”
Brielle shook her, gently she pulled Regulus’ head to her chest, “Listen.”
Regulus was confused for a moment before he heard the tell tale sound of a heart beat. “Your heart?”
Brielle smiled, gently pulling him back to look at his eyes. “Sirius and I, share the same heart.”
Regulus frowned, “I don’t understand.”
Brielle only smiled, “We love the same. We are first borns, and we love our younger siblings fiercely.”
“No, he left me!”
“I leave Tadase to hunt, our mother was not kind, our father was killed by our mother. Tadase had no mother, so I became what he needed.” She rubbed Regulus’ head gently. “Sirius is young, very young, he could not raise you yet, so he left. But his heart never left you.”
“Why did he leave me?” Regulus’ eyes began to water.
Brielle pulled him into another hug. “Because sometimes, older siblings are not strong enough to protect their siblings, Sirius knew this. So he left to get stronger, so he could come back for you and raise you. Because he loves you.”
Regulus wasn’t entirely convinced. “... But how do you know?”
“Because I did the very same.” Regulus pulled back, his face angry. “Why?! Why did you leave Tadase?!”
“Our mother is powerful, and I was still too young, but I came back. Because if I didn’t he would not survive. Our mother does not love us.” Brielle responded patiently.
“Why did your mama not love you?” He questioned.
“Maybe because mother and father were different species, maybe because we looked like our father more. I do not know.”
Regulus looked down, biting his lip. “That sounds like Mama… and Papa…they don’t like Sirius… or me…” He rubbed his eyes, sobbing as he looked up to the mermaid. “Why, why do they not love us?”
Brielle’s gaze only softened. “Some cannot love, but Sirius and I, we have so much love to give to our brothers,” She paused, brushing his hair back, “Tadase forgave me, and he is safe in my love,” she tilted Regulus’ chin up, “Forgive your brother, and you will feel just how much love he has to give. He will never leave you again.”
Regulus wailed, his shoulder shook as he sobbed harshly, Brielle simply rubbed his back as she sang her lullaby for the boys.
Remus watched in silent study. He knew mermaids were in tune with the emotions of others. And if what Brielle said was true, then perhaps there was more to Sirius Black than being a complete idiot. After listening to the lullaby for a few minutes, Remus left the boys with Brielle as he went back to check on Sirius, only to find the raging idiot shouting at the crew demanding for his brother.
Sirius somehow had gotten a hold of a sword and was holding one of the crew hostage. “I want to see Regulus!” His skin had returned to a healthy pale tone, his eyes were focused and his strength clearly returned.
Remus felt a headache coming on. A big one. He sighs, “If you think holding one of my crewmates hostage is a good tact to see your brother, you are a bigger fool than I thought.”
Sirius glared. “You, who do you think you are keeping my brother away from me?”
“Who do I think I am? Someone who cares about your brother despite only knowing the boy for nearly a week.” He simply retorts.
“Oh like I am supposed to believe that. The Blacks have been chased after by the navy for years, you really think I’m going to believe you’re not holding him for leverage, or for a reward?” Sirius glared.
Remus glared in return, “You should be thankful you’re even alive. That poison is fast acting. I’d mind your words.”
Sirius gave a humorless laugh, “Oh like I’d expect you to understand. I would travel to the pits of hell for him.” He pressed the blade closer to the crew man’s neck. “Where is he?”
Before Remus could retort, a melodious song reached their ears. The crew men's eyes began to droop, falling into a trance.
Quinn stumbled, his hand reaching for the railing to keep himself upright, Opal slowly lowered to the ground, Sirius’ grip on the dagger loosened, falling to the deck.
Remus blinked in confusion, he turned to the source of the song and saw Brielle standing on deck, holding onto the wall to steady herself, she was singing everyone to sleep.
Sirius collapsed, Quinn fell unconscious. Opal layed down and fell asleep on a bag of rice. Brielle walked closer to Remus, who remained unaffected since he was a mer as well.
Min-Jun walked towards him, glaring at Brielle. “Could you not?”
Brielle eyed Min-Jun in puzzlement, but did stop her song. Min-Jun walked to Sirius. Remus only watched Min-Jun in bewilderment.
Why hadn’t the song affected The Captain of the Dragon’s Pearl?

Chapter 32: Chapter 34
"Sirius, I'm not in the mood for your jokes," I say following him through the trees of the forbidden forest. Thunder echoes warning us a storm is coming.
“It's not a joke. Trust me.”
The moonlight no longer illuminates the path, I stop.
"Sirius, I really don't want to keep going,” I say nervously.
I hear him sigh.
"We're almost there, just a few more feet, Percy."
"I can't, let's go back please!” I feel my lower lip tremble.
He reaches out and touches my cheek.
“I know you don't feel good. I just want to show you something that will make you forget all this, even for a few minutes. It’ll be fine, do you trust me?"
“…Yes” I whisper.
Sirius takes my hand again and we continue walking. I don't know how he can go on without having light, but I just follow him. On one side are two trees thicker than the others, only a few meters apart from each other. We stop and he turns.
"I know it's weird, but you have to follow the black dog,” He says with a mischievous little smile.
I nod, unsure of what he means.
Sirius walks away and goes behind one of the trees. He returns as a huge black dog and signals me to follow him. Carefully, I obey by stepping on various branches and dry leaves. Passing the two trees is a cobbled path. Sirius and I walked over it until we reached a clearing; an expanse of land where herbs hurt my knees.
Sirius stops in front of me and makes a sign that I understand I have to wait. The dog runs to the center of the field and I lose sight of him for a few minutes. When he returns, his tail wags from side to side. He makes me follow him to the center of the clearing and I sit crossing my legs.
"Now what?" I ask him.
He cocks his head, turns away a little and starts barking. I look at him confused, until his barking echoes all over the place and little yellow lights stick out of the grass. I look in amazement at the fireflies that go up until they disappear in the trees. I smile when several approach me.
"You like it?" I jump when I hear Sirius's voice and turn to see him.
"It's beautiful," I whisper. He comes closer, wraps his arm around my shoulders, and draws me into his body.
I hear his heartbeat, feel the grass below me, and breathe in the cold air. Only until the thunder is more continuous does the rain fall uncontrollably, but we don’t move to avoid it.
The fireflies hide and everything goes dark.
The memories return and my heart races along with my breathing. My smile disappears and my tears mix with the rain. I bend my legs to my chest and hug them hiding my face in them. My shoulders shake from my sobs. Sirius hugs me and rests his forehead in my hair.
"I'm sorry,” He whispers in my ear.
"I don't understand,” I say. I raise my voice so he can hear me through the rain. “What else do they want from me? They know that I’m miserable there, with them, with those obligations. They have four other kids that they can use! Why do they keep insisting on me?" I scream angrily.
"I don't know," Sirius replies. “I'm sorry I don’t have the answer. I'm sorry I can't do something to make you feel good. I'm sorry I can't protect you as I would like…”
"That's the worst! It's not your fault, or the other boys' fault. Not my brothers and sisters. It’s my parents and all that garbage they have carried for generations. They want me to continue, but I can't. I don't want to!" He hugs me tighter.
"Sorry, Percy."
I hide my face on his neck, breathing in the scent of him. I cling to him like my life depends on it. But something distracts me, something familiar.
“Sirius?"
"Yes?"
"You smell like a wet dog.”
“I think it explains itself, don’t you think?” He replied in amusement.
Wet dog. A horrible scent that I had smelled before. In potions class, when Slughorn showed us the Amortentia potion.
***
"I could tell my parents that I’ll stay with you for the wedding arrangements?” tries Jenna.
"No, I don't want someone else to get involved," I say.
I rest my head on Sirius's shoulder. His hand squeezes mine.
"I don't want to leave you alone.”
I look up and see my best friend's look of empathy.
“I won't be. I wrote to Apollo.”
"Do you think he can do something?" Remus asks.
I shrug. "It's the only thing I have left"
The compartment is silent. No one knows what to say or do. There are no more plans or easy ways out. At one point I fall asleep, Sirius wakes me up when we get to the station and this time, my mother and Juno are waiting for me.
My friends say goodbye to me and I promise to communicate in some way.
“Anything, please, you must tell me. I don't know if there are any muggle phones close to your home, but you can find one. James's parents have one,” says Sirius giving me a paper with the number. “Take care,” He whispers in a broken voice and hugs me. My eyes water. “I wrote to my uncle Alphard. Maybe he can help you.”
"Thank you Sirius,” I clean my cheeks. I look at my mother and sister. They watch carefully. I look down at the ground.
If this continues, if I have no escape. I will not be able to continue with the life I had, which I finally managed to be happy with.
I return my gaze to Sirius and take in every detail of his face. His gray eyes, the unruly hair that falls on his face. I touch his cheek to feel his smooth skin. I kiss his lips, savoring every moment.
"I love you Sirius,” I whisper and pull away a bit. He looks at me in surprise and tries to speak. I sigh and walk to my family without waiting for an answer.
***
Sirius
"And what did you expect me to do, Prongs?" I growl looking at my best friend.
“I don't know, mate. I have no idea what we could do, my brain ran out of ideas.”
I walk back and forth in James's room, pulling my hair in desperation.
"I want to help her, I want her to run away just like I did.”
“Sirius…”
“It's not easy, but it’s better, it will be better–”
“Sirius.”
"If we go to her house maybe she can run away without anyone noticing“
"Sirius!" James stops me. “She’s not like you. They’re not the same families and it’s not the same situation.”
“And what should I do? Stand by and do nothing? Waiting for an invitation to my girlfriend and younger brother’s wedding?"
"No! But whatever idea you have may make it worse!”
"How the hell can it be worse?"
“She can get hurt. It’s worse than your situation with your parents, Sirius. And she has more siblings against her.”
I clench my hands into fists.
"I want to help her, James," I say in a cracking voice.
“I want that too, Sirius. But we can't do anything, not for now.”
I walk towards the window, I see the sky waiting for some owl with news that will improve everything. A letter from her saying that everything was canceled and that she’s on her way. That she’s safe.
“I can't lose her, James. Not again.”
"You won't, mate" My friends comes over and hugs me.
"Boys?" James's father enters the room. "What's wrong?"
Fear creeps through, James's hand on my shoulder squeezes.
"They may be able to help, Padfoot.”
“Dear," says Euphemia. "What happened?"
"I don't know what to do,” I reply.
"Tell us.”
***
Persephone
"What other cards do you have up your sleeve?" I say sitting in front of my father's desk.
"You don't have an idea, little one," He says, resting his elbows on the desk.
"And I have something to do with your future plans?"
“You're the star.”
I let out a sarcastic laugh.
“Wasn't it enough for you to want to force me to kill innocent people? Organizing a wedding that I disagreed on… twice. And now you tell me that I must delay my studies to graduate with Regulus and be the happy couple that we aren’t and will never be.”
"It's something simple, but you always manage to make it all so dramatic…”
I know what his game is. He wants to break me once and for all.
"I won’t do it. I will not be one of your puppets. It works with other people, but not with me.”
“And what will you do about it? Tell Alphard Black to save you again?" He smiles. "Did you really think I wasn't going to find out?"
“Leave the Blacks alone. Forget that family, cancel the engagement.”
"Look at you, defending other people,” He laughs again. “Now you’ll tell me that you’ll do whatever it takes to make me leave them alone. Didn’t you just say you don’t want to be my puppet, dear?"
"Not everything is strategy.”
"Life is a great strategy and at this point you should know better.”
"Why don't you focus on your other children and forget about me?"
“Oh no, I could not abandon any of my children.”
"You manipulate them.”
“You are the real problem,” He stands up and circles the desk. “Listen, you will marry Regulus Black, have his heirs, and both of you will be the dark lord's most important aides. Don't worry, after all this is over and the traitors surrender, there will be nothing left of what you used to care about.”
"What do you mean?"
He puts his hands on my shoulders and squeezes hard.
“Lily Evans, Marlene Mckinnon, Jenna Parker, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, James Potter and Sirius Black… That's what I mean.”
My father returns to my desk and smiles satisfied with my reaction.
“It does not matter if you are of age, you, Persephone Amelia Singh, belong to me. You are my daughter and you must follow the orders of your true family. You cannot run away and no one can help you. Don't count on Alphard or anyone else. Your hands are tied and it will be easier if you give up now.”
After working on everything that I’ve achieved, on the new family that I have created, on everything that I’ve discovered, lost by a few simple orders. A war in the near future and I’m destined to be on the wrong side. Suffering in silence.
“No," I pull out my wand and hold it tightly. "I won’t give up. Never,” I clench my teeth and stand up. “You're no longer my family.”

Reflections in Rooms
Summary: Roman and Remus are both aware that their rooms aren't exactly what people expect from them if anyone visits. When Patton visits his reaction to mistaking Remus's room for Roman's was something neither of them could have predicted.
Authors Note: I wanted to write something last week and began this with no clue where it was going. Today I finished it and still have no clue where it was going for the entire story. Sorry if it’s bewildering at all. I’m just playing.
/\/\/\/\/\/\
If you live in a room for long enough it becomes a reflection of you in a way people very often won’t understand.
Both Roman and Remus realised this as almost every time a friend came over they’d assume the wrong room was theirs.
Janus visiting was the first time they recognised why it happened. Their remark upon being corrected had been “But you’re so chaotic and have no regard for anything being organised. How on earth can this be your room, Remus?”
Roman was not sticking around to hear the lecture over how organised any important movements were nor how the things Remus hated and rebelled against were conformity and that was never synonymous with organisation. He already had the lecture memorised in case there was ever an instant of a their friends calling while they were out.
“This isn’t quite what I’d expect by a Princes bedroom, Roman. Have you seriously been hiding all the interesting things you love for all this time?” Virgil groused, when he first visited. They’d become friends through a creative writing club and had planned to work on a story together that evening. “Seriously we could have been rocking out together to these bands and you cannot say that you didn’t think I’d like them. Just look at me!”
At least Virgil’s confusion was different to the reactions Roman had gotten before. A few of his friends had gotten very worried over how low some of the snippets left on his desk suggested his self esteem was.
The reaction both brothers were stunned to witness was Patton’s when he first followed Roman home. They’d gotten talking near the end of the work day and it just felt right to invite him over to carry on chatting together and perhaps share some of the creations that he hadn’t shared with the team at work.
Roman had gone to make drinks, giving Patton directions to his room upstairs while he did so when he heard the yell. “Roman your friend isn’t letting me go! What on earth do I do?”
“Let him hug you and then direct him to my room, maybe?” He called back, raising an eyebrow at that reaction. Sure, Patton usually liked to hug everyone in greeting but refusing to let go of Remus was the opposite of how people usually reacted given the unfortunate scent that surrounded him.
“Still not going to free him. This is my new best friend now. He likes kittens!” Patton yelled back before one of his apologetic sounds could be heard, presumably as Remus corrected him to the pronouns for the day.
Once the drinks were finished Roman was finally able to find out what his friend meant. His sibling usually focused on oceanic creatures rather than anything on land so something must have changed.
“I'm drawing catfish, not kittens or cats or anything like that. What's your name anyway?” Remus was explaining, although the picture did currently only have a cats face on it. Patton was hanging off her back, only just letting Roman see the lilac choker that clarified her pronouns.
Entering the room Roman snickered a little, already knowing that from how Patton spoke some of Remus's drawings would probably cause concern. “He's Patton. What's it going to look like when you add the body and colour?”
“It's gonna have mangled limbs of twisted together legs and fins, and a scattered red and yellow mottled pattern mixing fur and scales all over its body. I need to make the eyes bigger though... or smaller, fish have small eyes right?” Remus described already turning to search images of fish so she could decide what size the eyes should be, clearly having decided to ignore Patton hanging onto her.
“Nooo.” Patton whined, reaching clearly with the intent to take the sketch and protect it from Remus's plans. “Pretty kitten.”
Remus still nodded, pushing the drawing out of reach and pulling a folder from beside her desk up. “Yep, it'll be a beautiful kitten, just like these ones.” She insisted, show casing her variety of finished artwork to Patton cheerfully ignoring any upset noises.
Roman was only just close enough to see the pages being turned, but had already seen his sisters art after it was completed enough to know the pages. At the start it would be trips into uncanny valley, all the things Remus saw in robotic attempts to recreate humans or poor game and film CGI designs of people sketched out again as she tried to work out what was so off about them. Then the pages would turn to gore, murder scenes they'd heard described in various books and news broadcasts that she wanted to imagine more vividly. Those ones had Patton almost crying and rushing Remus to move past them without giving any sources or descriptions of her thought process.
After the gore Remus had pages of just normal ocean life as she had wanted to perfect how light works under water before allowing herself more creative attempts. It was her latest project and she'd only moved onto creating her own designs of underwater animals in the last few months.
That was where Roman decided to interrupt again, “So have I lost my friend to you for the evening? I can head back to my room now, if so.”
“Don't be jealous cause I'm more interesting than a Disney fan, Prince Pukey.” Remus immediately countered, raising an eyebrow as she turned. “But you're more than welcome to take your friend back anytime if he'll let go of me.”
“Your friend too, Remus. You are my new kiddo and I need to see everything you've been creating. I love the sharks. They look like puppies, not as terrifying as the movies make them.” Patton tightened his grip, still hugging or clinging to Remus as though she'd run if he let go.
The siblings blink for a moment, Roman stunned that this guy from work essentially has declared Remus as a friend after knowing him an hour and Remus because this guy just walked into her room, seems aghast at any pictures of injuries, war or fighting but has basically just adopted her too. “Where on earth did you find this maniac, Ro, and are there any other I need to prepare to be adopted by?” Remus asks after a moment, folder forgotten in her hands.
“Work. Logan is my main other friend there and they aren't really the adopting type. They will probably criticise any creation scientifically though so I'm trying to avoid inviting him home.” Roman muttered, still taking in what had happened. “Padre, you have literally yelled for hours over anyone suggesting something close to the things Remus has been showing you when we're at work, what...?”
“We make shows for Kids, Roman! That's not an appropriate place for this type of stuff, but there's nothing wrong in Remus exploring such dark subjects as long as she let's people walk away if it gets to be too much.” Patton scolded lightly, grinning as soon as Roman shrugged in response, letting the explanation be left at that.
Patton never did get to see Roman's room on his first visit to their home, but he did make a new friend that he might never have met otherwise.

By the time Logan reached his packmate’s room, he had worked himself into a slight panic. Only a slight one.
It had seemed perfectly logical at the time: threatening humans was the quickest way to get them to behave, and Logan had no desire to see Patton injured by the little thing, physically or emotionally.
Of course, he’d forgotten to take Patton’s soft heart into account, and now he was feeling overwhelming dread every time the human so much as glanced at him while Patton was in the room. It was as though he was a pup again, biting his sibling’s ear and waiting for them to tell their mother on him.
It wasn’t like he had a reason to be guilty! The human had bitten Patton! He wasn’t in the wrong, it was just... possible that he should have taken a gentler route with the creature. Possibly.
It didn’t help that the human was so unsubtle about its terror. It was like living with a mouse, the way the human froze up every time Logan was nearby. He’d glanced down while Patton was hugging him and those tiny eyes had been locked on him as though…
Well. As though he was going to eat the little thing. He was beginning to regret choosing that threat to bluff with.
“Roman?” he knocked once, sharply. “I’m coming in.”
Upon not receiving a startled shriek, he twisted the handle and hurried into the room, closing the door after him. Roman, sprawled out on his bed like a starfish, grumbled loudly.
“You are talking into your pillow, so I cannot understand a word you’re saying.” Logan informed him dryly.
Roman lifted his head up with monumental effort. “What do you want, nerd?”
“I am here to inform you that Patton is in the process of making breakfast, and will be disappointed if you continue to oversleep.” He paused, considering. “However, what I want is advice.”
Like a switch had been flipped, Roman twisted to sit upright, facing him with a sort of delighted surprise. “You want my advice?”
Logan began to feel some regrets. “Never mind.”
“Aw, c’mon Specs, don’t be that way. I promise not to make fun of you too much. Hit me with it!”
“I won’t be hitting you with anything.”
His packmate blinked at him with glittering puppy-dog eyes, and Logan simply gave him an unimpressed look before sighing, because he really did want to deal with these pesky feelings. “Fine. I assume you remember the human?”
Roman frowned, nose wrinkling. “How could I forget? His stench is all over Patton’s room.”
“Yes, well, it has been acting… stubborn and petulant, which doesn’t make for a good pet. Since we both know how Patton is with smaller creatures, I took it upon myself to make sure that it would behave. However… I believe I may have taken it too far, and if Patton finds out...”
He paused, trying to figure out a way to phrase ‘he’ll be mad at me’ without it sounding quite so pathetic. Roman snorted, seeming more amused than concerned.
“Okay, I hear you, but Patton’s soft little puffball heart applies to you too, y’know? I’m sure he’d forgive you. What did you do to the little thing, anyhow? Lecture him to death?”
Logan shifted, uncomfortably. “I… threatened to get rid of it if it didn’t behave appropriately as a pet. By eating it.”
Roman’s relaxed posture vanished in an instant, his eyebrows lifting in shock. “Oh my god, Logan, what?”
“You heard me.” Logan snapped, crossing his arms defensively. “It bit Patton, so I figured that a threat of equal magnitude would prevent such a thing from happening again.”
“A bite from something that small- Logan, a threat of equal magnitude would be flicking him, not threatening to eat him! I don’t even like humans, but you sound like my brother!” Roman said, his face twisting in the look of distaste he always got when his feral brother was mentioned.
Logan winced. “It was… It was only a bluff.”
“I know that, but the human doesn’t, and he’s the one that’s going to be tattling to Patton!” Roman threw his arms out dramatically, flopping back down on his bed.
Logan grimaced, running his fingers down his tie anxiously. “Then, what do I do to prevent that?”
There was a moment of silence as Roman considered, ears twitching back and forth the way they did when he was formulating a plot. He sat up, brow furrowed in concentration.
“What you need to do is talk with the human alone, without Patton there. You’ve got to convince him not to even think about telling Patton, without letting him know that he holds most of the cards here. It’ll be tough, but you’re no idiot, I’m sure you can think of something.” Roman tapped his chin. “It’ll be too suspicious if either of us ask Patton about spending time with him, though, so I’ll have to work out a way to get him to you.”
Logan nodded firmly, revitalized by the idea of a plan to deal with all this. As expected, Roman was an expert on how to weasel out of emotional trouble.
“In the meantime though, I want pancakes.”
Logan deflated a little at the idea of dealing with the human’s terrified stare for another meal, but he wasn’t about to hurt Patton’s feelings by ditching breakfast. “Right.”
He could bear with pretending to be unaffected a little longer. Hopefully, his talk with the human would solve this issue once and for all.

Crush
Summary: It’s 5th year, Professor Flitwick had the idea, in tandem with Madam Sprout, to do something different for that year’s Valentine’s Day. Something extra aside than just a ball. Professor Burbagge had suggested a karaoke list for the students and teachers alike. When the announcement was made that it would be a thing, one Katherine Tanner thought it was the most detestable idea she’d ever heard. Pairing: Sev x OC
Saturday...finally. The weekend, time to rest and get ready for another week of school work and lessons. But also a set timer for the Valentine’s Day ball that would surely be happening at the end of the week.
Katherine made her way to where Severus, her best friend since first year and secret crush, was sitting at the Slytherin table a few minutes before morning announcements were said.
“Good morning Severus,” she said with a kind grin as she sat down next to him.
“Morning,” he said with a small kind grin, “Sleep well?”
“Better than I have all week you?” She asked.
“About same...until I remembered what this coming weekend will bring about,” he said with a sneer.
She nodded half heartedly at this. She wasn’t opposed to the ins and outs of the general idea of what happens on the day. And didn’t think the Valentine’s day was a bad idea...especially if it gave her the chance to ask out who she had in mind.
Sadly for her though, two professors were about to dig her grave.
“Good morning students!” Professor Dumbledore said jovially, “As you all know this upcoming weekend is the Saint Valentine’s Day ball, please remember that semi-formal attire is expected from all participating. Two of your professors have decided on adding activities to the already set festivities. Professors Flitwick, Sprout and Burbbage please.”
The three teachers stood giving the Headmaster their thanks and announced that instead of magical band coming to play for them, karaoke shall be the music entertainment supplied additional to the magical jukebox that will be provided.
Despite the pureblood Slytherin’s reactions to the idea, most of the school seemed to like the idea of something new to try that wasn’t part of the norm.
Katherine could practically hear Lily Evans squealing in delight at this and could have groaned as she saw a small smile appear on Sev’s face as he turned to look at her. Katherine felt her heart drop to her stomach at that but shook her head and focused on not tearing up. She’s had quick developing crush on Sev since the beginning of third year, she’d hoped he'd see her in the same light. Despite knowing he seemed to only have eyes for Evans.
She came to some when she saw breakfast appear on their plates and table.
Severus spoke at her as she focused on eating her her breakfast.
She caught a word here and there but remained deep in thought. She thought of the constellations and their names, she thought of what hand movements belong with what spell. Anything to keep from thinking about the elephant in the room.
“Kate?” She came to as Severus called her a worried look on his face.
“Yes?” She said quietly.
“Are you alright?” He asked worriedly, “You seemed far away.”
“It’s nothing,” she said with a shaky grin, “I’m fine.”
With that she took one last drink of her pumpkin juice before rushing out without another explanation.
Despite being in another house, Kate had found comfort under the wing of the head of Gryffindor Professor McGonnagall. It hadn't taken long for her to convince the professor of who was picking on Severus. She had argued that a school is a space for learning and exploring. And while the slytherin stereotype did not afford them much of anything regarding a neutral standing, the very idea of being bullied for being in Slytherin the moment they are sorted as first years is as traumatizing as it is abusive.
Needless to say the professor found this brave and found it a valid reason to be more involved with students from other houses if need be. It wasn't until the end of their third year that some students had come to her with complaints of being jinxed from nowhere and laughing that follows it. The professor had taken matters into her own hands when the headmaster wouldn’t do anything. Give came to shove and the professor discovered something that led to not only James Potter but his entire crew being put in detention after Pettigrew ratted them out. Rumor had it around school that Mr. Potter the elder was non too pleased to find his son had stolen, or “borrowed” as Kate was sure James had put it, his heirloom invisibility cloak.
“Miss Tanner?” Professor McGonnagall said as she walked into her office to find Kate sitting on the chair opposite the teacher’s desk.
Kate looked at her and gave her a small smile.
“Oh dear,” the older woman said tenderly.
With a wave of her wand the professor cleared the desk before transfiguring it into a small round table and asking a house elf to bring tea and all the fixings with some biscuits.
“You my dear will have to tell him,” the teacher said after taking her seat opposite Kate.
Kate nodded and said, “I wanted to be cliche and do it at the ball.”
Minerva grinned softly in understanding and said, “Your young still lass. This is just a passing fancy...it’ll pass.”
“I want to say I understand, I want to agree.” Kate said sadly, “But...it feels like all I've known is slipping away. I’ve known him since first year ma’am. And for four years I've been his friend and in that time he’s somehow managed to have me following him around like a lovesick pup.”
Minerva felt for the young lass and wanted to give her comfort, but sometimes heartbreak is inevitable.
“There is high possibility he’ll unwittingly break Professor,” Kate said feeling like she’s about to cry, “But I’m sick and tired of having him there but not. I’m tired of almost telling him only to have him stare at Lily Evans like she walk on water. I understand she’s one of your ma’am, but she acts like she deserves all she’s getting and more for knowing and achieving the same things I have in the same amount of time.”
Minerva let the girl talk, it wasn’t too often that she got this side of the mirror between students who have similar if not equal achievements in school.
“The only reason she’s getting more notoriety and roses and rainbows thrown her way is because she’s a riotous lion who can do no wrong,” Kate raged tears of pain and anger running down her face and she went on, “What they don’t see is that she is cold, self-centered, attention seeking, dismissive and vindictive. Especially if she doesn't get what she wants how she wants in the manner of which she wants it.”
This was and wasn’t news to Minerva. Ever since discovering the ins and outs of what had been the torrent of attacks by the so called Marauders. Not only that, she’d taken the precautionary measure to do a little digging on Mr. Snape. The discoveries she made may as well be the very thing to aid magical children muggleborn or not so they do not grow in such environments...Dumbledore or not.
“To Sev, she is on this unbeatable pedestal that no one can reach no matter what,” she said with a defeated sniff, “So much so that he cannot see that her love for him is that of a sibling’s. Or worse, that she will discard him as soon as he shows his supposed true Slytherin colors and fall pray to the dark arts as they think he will. Have they ever thought that without studying them, grey areas would’ve never been found? Or that some would be too dangerous for the general public? I’ve learned that magic is never truly dark or light...its the intent and emotion that judge how a witch or wizard use their magic.”
Minerva stared at Kate in awe at what she’d said and how she’d said it. She could see the truth in Kate’s words, she also knew that the young woman is right. Without those willing to study the dark arts, understanding would not be gathered. After all this is how cures or antidotes are created, this is how one understands what a spell or jinx does.
“What will you do?” Minerva asked the silently crying girl.
“I’ll sing him a song,” Kate said with a small smile, “And probably go with Reg and Remus. I’m not shooting for a happy ending ma’am...I know that is impossible.”

The weekend after that went by slowly for Kate, Severus tried to get her to talk to him to tell him what was bothering her all the while getting looks from both Remus and Regulus.
Severus did not understand what these looks meant nor how they had anything to do with Kate. This drove him to ask Lily and Alice what was wrong with his second best friend.
Lily said that it was most likely Kate’s time of the month and didn’t go any deeper into it bar from opening the conversation to something else. While Alice pulled him aside before going into dinner Sunday evening.
“Have you ever thought that Kay may like you?” She asked gently in a hushed tone.
The look on his face told her in no uncertain terms that no he had not.
“What makes you say that? She’s my best friend,” He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Only second to Lily though,” Alice said trying to see where it is fell in relation to her friend.
Alice had known of Kate’s crush for Sev for a while now, had even spoken to her at length of it. She never thought Sev would be so blind to Kate’s attentions to block out the very idea that she could be better for him than Lily.
“It’s different with Lily,” he said emphatically, “She gorgeous, smart, talented and–”
“And everything Kat is,” Regulus finished for him.
Regulus Black while young, has seen more than he’ll ever care to admit. Affording him the knowledge necessary to garner what he wants, like a true slytherin. In this case, he just wanted the one he saw as his sister to be happy with his house brother. Sev may not see how Lily uses his natural gift in Potions but the tight knit group of friends do.
Severus glared at Regulus. He knew Kate was good...just not like his Lily.
Regulus rolled his eyes at him practically hearing the thought and pulled him to their table to wait for dinner.
“So I’m not good enough,” Kate said from a hidden alcove.
Alice’s gaze softened as she approached.
“I’m not...” Kate stopped and breathed deeply swallowing her tears, “I’m not pretty enough, smart enough or talented enough to garner his attention. Is that it? Alice is that really it? That I’m not enough.”
Regulus stepped out having settled Severus in their spot Remus not too far behind him.
The boys shared a look hating how Severus was breaking down their friend bit by bit and didn't even seem to not only know it but care.
Alice pulled Kate into a hug and said, “We don’t have to have dinner here tonight Kay, let’s go to the kitchens a pick something from there yea?”
“I have to stay with him,” Regulus said nodding in the direction of the great hall, “Someone’s gotta keep an eye on him.”
Remus nodded mutely and watched Alice practically drag Kate away from the hall.
“Do you think he’ll ever piece everything together?” Remus asked.
“He’s too far gone over Evans to see his own bloody feet as he walks when it comes to her so no,” Reg said anger clear in his voice as he answered, “To him Kat is a good friend a second best friend...But as Alice has said, only second to Evans.”
“Ever since James has been in detention and all he’s done to Sev over the years came out, she’s been acting as if Sev’s just popped up from wherever she though he was,” Remus said with a hum.
“Like he realized that Slytherins are pure evil and all bad,” Regulus said with a scoff, “What you lions don’t seem to realize is that good or evil, us snakes stick together and help each other out when we can instead of breaking each other for being different. Not to mention he’s acting like she hung the moon and stars affording her a love sick pup that would do anything for her.”
Remus nodded at that knowing that there is truth behind the words.
“We should head back before we’re missed,” Regulus said.
“I’ll keep you included on the ins and outs of Lily,” Remus said weakly.
“No need,” Regulus said with a sad grin, “There’s nothing to be done with the information that would end in a favorable manner for either party. Sev wouldn’t believe it if the information was proof that Evans is the worst form of hellcat and the back lash would probably be against Kat. For things she’s never been or felt in relation to Evans.”
“Kay’s never been envious or jealous of Lily,” Remus said, “What annoys her is that she’s not getting the same or equal treatment for her achievements as Lily.”
Regulus walked away with a nod over his shoulder at Remus.
In the kitchens, Alice held a sobbing Kate as the information sunk in.
“What am I supposed to do Alice?” She asked as she calmed, “I can’t keep going on like this.”
“I agree, but none of the boys our year seem to know their heads from their dicks,” Alice said nonchalantly.
This caused both girls to laugh and for Katherine to say, “Except for Frank?”
Alice blushed at this making her break into a fit of giggles.
The duo spent a while there just enjoying their time together and talking before it was time for them to go back to their respective houses.
The week went on cold when it came to her relationship with Severus. Kate managed to get herself together enough to pretend she wasn't hurting and approached him as she usually did only to have him get pulled away by Lily. Remus and Alice both said she was hoping, or “hoping”, Severus would ask her to the ball.
Kate rolled her eyes at that and continued on with her week as usual despite Remus telling her that Sev had been trying to talk to her...Lily apparently had good, or rather bad, timing.
She wanted to believe that she really did. But all Severus had done and said when it came to Lily Evans told her otherwise.
It was the day before Valentines Day, and the ball, meaning last minute shopping, tissues, chocolate, and spelling her preferred crying spot after the whole event that is Valentine’s Day.
She’d woken up that morning semi-hopeful that it would be tolerable at the very least. Sadly that would not be the case...
As soon as she stepped into the great hall for breakfast, owls and folded notes were flying from one end of the hall to the other. She saw a few girls crying either in happiness or heart break, she saw cheering as well as shy blushing declarations and worst of all the kissy and affectionate couples celebrating their love. She spotted Severus and was about to join him when Lily stood from her table and pulled him to sit next to her.
Kate sat at the end of her house’s table closest to the great hall’s doors ready to bolt if the occasion called for hoping to not receive anything, yet a small part of her did. She ‘read’ the book she’d brought with her staring at the card she’d made for Sev as if giving it to him was no longer an option. She tucked it between the pages and read on as if nothing was happening. She forced herself to eat and go over the lyrics of the song that she’d chosen earlier that week.
She snuck a peek at him and saw the look he was gracing Lily with. Such devotion and love, it ate at her. A tear fell on the page she’d been reading. She knew this would happen, but that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt all the same.
The day seemed to drag on as lessons were half given due to the buzz that seemed to have pretty much everyone feeling alive through out the castle. Severus looked like he would approach her on a couple of occasions but all Evans had to do is walk by and it was like someone had obliviated her from his mind. Since afternoon classes were canceled for the ball, this gave Kate time to go over her lyrics in more detail than she had that morning.
Kate went over her plan for the ball was to go in sing her piece and leave. There was no point in prolonging the agony. And being her mother’s daughter, she’d wear black. She always looked beautiful in black, or so people had informed her. Plus, when one has the opportunity to be extra you don’t pass it up.

Kate remained close to Minerva once inside the great hall. To her great relief, the hall itself had been tastefully decorated. The golden hue brought in with the warmth of the seemed to pop with he red sashes that horizontally lined the walls and the hearts that took over half of the amount of normally floating candles. All in all, the combination of hearts and candles made the hall look warm, inviting and romantic.
“I was in charge of decorating this year,” Professor McGonnagall said with a satisfied grin, “The plans Professor Dumbledore had are not for human eyes.”
“Oh?” Kate said with a small smile.
“The red was too much even for my eyes,” she said with a chuckle.
Kate breathed a laugh and shook her head.
She didn’t know when it was that the singing would start, she was coming the minutes hoping that she didn’t bolt before hand. It’s been close to two hours now, night had fallen and all this may or may have anything to do with the fact of how Severus did and didn’t react to her when he saw her at the great hall’s entrance.
“Did he really do and say what I heard?” The professor asked her quietly as she kept an eye on the crowd.
“He did,” Kate said her voice small, “He saw me and it was like he was seeing me for the first time. He looked at me and it was...it was so tender and sweet. He’d said I looked beautiful.”
Minerva saw the small smile on Kate’s face and would have shaken her head at how star struck she looked; but let her continue.
“He’d said I looked beautiful, he then took my hand and kissed it like a proper gentleman,” Kate swooned as she saw him dance with Lily a dreamy look on his face, “We were talking before he said ‘look at how beautiful’, I thought I was referring to me but then I turned to see Evans looking resplendent in her dress. He then turned to me and said that he was escorting ‘the most beautiful lass he’d ever had the honour of laying his eyes on’.”
Minerva put a supportive hand on her shoulder and was about to say something when...
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Professor Dumbledore called out jovially, “I’m here to announce the first group to sing either in groups, duets or solos.”
Kate draws a breath and was ready to bolt when...
“Don’t worry lass,” Minerva said, “I’m here as are your friends. There is no shame in leaving if it becomes too much.”
Kate nodded as she heard her name called out.
She spotted Severus’ look of astonishment at this along with his searching gaze. She deliberately kept to herself not wanting to lose her footing at seeing him.
“The groups will go first followed by the duet,” Professor Dumbledore said, “For the first wave. Everyone find your places and your partners. The first will be called in fifteen minutes.”
The music was returned to its original volume and couples went back to dancing. Kate sighed and focused on her breathing, there is no point in getting overtly nervous before she got on stage.
Minerva hid a grin as she saw Remus approach them.
“Kat?” he said a soft blush on her cheeks.
Kate looked at Remus eyes wide, “Yes?”
“Would you like to dance?” He asked a soft grin on his handsome face.
She nodded and took Remus’ hand where he led them to a corner of the dance floor.
Together they danced and for once Kate felt ok. Not something huge but ok, enough to at least do what she’s set out to do and finally move on from this crush. A few minutes before the first set was due up, Reg to her for a spin doing all he could to make her laugh and distract her not only from the obvious elephant in the room but also baring her soul in front of the entire, almost entire, school body.
When the time came for the first group, she’d been impressed with how they sang “Light My Fire” by The Doors. She could see their respective dates swoon and one nearly faint causing her to laugh in delight. Kate while not into super public or overstated displays of affection, could see the appeal of your significant other do such a thing. It looked nice to see that he was happy with her...it had to feel nice from her end too.
The following was a duet, this one was even bolder that what she had planned. This duet was singing to each other via Elvis. Kate felt tears building as magic seemed to radiate from the stage from the heartfelt words the couple was singing to each other.
Kate was surrounded by her friends when all too soon her name was called for her to sing her set.
She met supportive grins and smiles from her friends as she went wait for the person ahead of her to finish up. She caught Professor McGonnagall’s eyes and reassuring grin making her feel a little bit better. Her gaze shifted over the hall looking for the object of her affection and her heart broke as she spotted them in the middle of the floor leisurely kissing to the soft swing of Elvis.
‘Can’t help falling in love with you indeed,’ she thought her head spinning at the realization that Evans like always...had won.
With this in mind she swallowed her tears and put on her big girl bra and got on stage when called. She ignored the surprised look on Severus’ face as the music started and she began to sing.
I got a girl crush Hate to admit it but I got a heart rush Ain't slowing down I got it real bad Want everything she has That smile and that midnight laugh She's giving you now
Kate focused on the lull of the song, pretending the hall was empty but her and a darkened room.
I want to taste her lips Yeah, 'cause they taste like you I want to drown myself In a bottle of her perfume I want her long blonde hair I want her magic touch Yeah, 'cause maybe then You'd want me just as much I got a girl crush I got a girl crush
Kate changed a look and saw Sev’s astounded expression. Whether they are at what she’s singing, to whom, or the meaning behind the song she didn’t know. It was...bittersweet to know that she did indeed still have somewhat of an effect on him.
I don't get no sleep I don't get no peace Thinking about her Under your bed sheets The way that she's whispering The way that she's pulling you in Lord knows I've tried, I can't get her off my mind
I want to taste her lips Yeah, 'cause they taste like you I want to drown myself In a bottle of her perfume I want her long blonde hair I want her magic touch Yeah, 'cause maybe then You'd want me just as much I got a girl crush I got a girl crush Hate to admit it but I got a heart rush It ain't slowing down
Kate drew a final breath as the last chords of the song echoed through the hall before being engulfed in a sea of applause. She smiled at her crowd and bowed before getting off stage.
Once off, she was met with a nearly frantic Severus.
“Why,” he said clearly not knowing how to feel, “Why didn’t you say something? Anything!?”
Kate looked over his shoulder and saw a smirking Lily.
“Because I’m only second best to Lily Evans,” Kate said simply, “Tell her she won.”
