random question, between all your ocs, who have achieved god level cooking? like even Gordon himself would bow to them and ask to be their apprentice level? and who is so abysmal at it, can't even cook water?

Best Cook: Sumakwel- they had a Remy Ratataouille making Anton Ego remember his childhood moment with anyone who tries their food. Dinta also makes delicious broths and soups. Humadsan probably the most talented cook out of all my ocs!

Surprisingly good: Sarawak, makes banging roast fish. Namwaren: loves making stews

Bad cook, but with a potential to be better: to Srithvi, inept at everything she does, but is trying So Hard.

Xie Lian levels of horrible: Narakan literally falling to her knees because she can't beat the girlfail allegations. Gets really mad and says her food is Girl Dinner (she has invented coal that can burn for centuries. no one knows how she did it.)

Adding to my sanders sides office au!

Roman has his own desk but mostly just chills in Logan's office

He also accompanies Logan to all the big important meetings and networking events

Virgil still finds ways to dress emo in the office

Patton's mum's own a cute bakery so sometimes when they host office events they can book that venue for free

Virgil hates working at the office because of corporate culture and constantly wants to fight the man

Logan always makes sure all his employees leave the minute the clock hits five. He refuses to contribute to an unhealthy work life balance.

Logan inherited the company from his dad

Patton has two young kids who he sometimes brings to work if he can't find a baby sitter

No one minds at all, they all try their best to keep them happy and entertained which is fairly easy. A few Disney songs, colouring books and vending machine snacks do the trick

The older one (5) follows Logan around like a baby duck, always trying to see what he's doing and nodding very seriously when Logan explains. Their also very intent on convincing him he should give them a sip of his coffee

Patton's mortified by his kid disrupting Logan's work and apologises profusely but Logan's very endeared by his tiny apprentice

"Do you like frogs Mr Jam" (Logan's last name is crofter and being five and unable to rember the name they call him mr jam cause crofters is jam) "I do like frogs their very interesting" "me to! I wish I were a frog cause they get to live in ponds with lily pads and dragon flies. And if I were a frog I wouldn't let any princesses kiss me" they shake their head with absolute conviction. "Cause then I couldn't be a frog anymore and that'd be very silly" "very silly indeed" Logan agrees unable to hide the smile growing on his face

The younger kid has an inexplicable affinity for Remy. Remy does not like kids but this three year old has inhuman amounts of sass and doesn't understand the concept of privacy yet so is great at sharing gossip. They also have a great no fucks to give attitude so Remy genuinely enjoys talking to this kid

Roman thinks patton's kids are the most adorable things to ever walk the earth but he has zero clue how to interact with children

Sometimes when he stressed Logan smokes but Patton absolutely refuses to kiss him when he does

Logan and Patton only go on dates outta town because janus is just waiting to catch them on a romantic outing

Roman has passed out at work exactly nine times for various reasons (exhaustion, hunger, sickness, shock)

Logan's actshally kinda clumsy and bad with time management hence him needing Roman so bad. But he's really good at his job

Some of the investors hate Logan for being a nepo baby despite him being good at his job. They formally extend the hatred to Roman as well

Both are very protective of the others reputation. Logan once broke an investor's nose after he called Roman a useless boy toy

Remy and Colin also find themselves awake and hard at work - though theirs is of a scholarly nature. It won't be long now until Remy has completed his schooling and unlike his peers within the Kingdom he is not expected to spend the last few years of his teenhood in the cloister learning various trades and socializing with those of differing classes.

Part of him is glad - he feels like he'd go slightly batty overthinking anything and everything said to him there - but another part of him wishes that Penrith wasn't so... isolated.

They weren't part of Edirann, but nor were they part of any other kingdom. They existed in a sort of dangerous no man's land.

He couldn't exactly apprentice himself way out here, or establish a thriving business; Mirella's herbs were a special case. His future felt so blank and it was unnerving.

Arkhelios Adventures

"Welcome to the Academy, young apprentice. All of your belongings have been placed in the dorm, where you can move in when you're ready. Do you have any questions?"

Ewan Maricourt beamed with pride when introducing his school to a promising new apprentice. Pleasantview had a strong generation of magic users at present, and Ewan couldn't be prouder of them. As much as he was wary about his son's demon boyfriend and affinity for blood magic, Theo was talented and he brought out the best in his son's spells. Adam producing the Maricourt wand at his age was a point of pride that Ewan made sure to mention at length to the other parents of students. Remy was also doing well, even if she wasn't as engaged with the subject matter as her brother. Elowen also stood out in class. As much as Ewan was relieved to be divorced from her, Edana raised her children to be exceptional magic users.

"No, I think I'm good," the student said, appearing to look at the school with what could only be described as apathy. "Once you've seen one school, you've seen them all."

"Attention, students! We've got a new student joining us today. Please welcome to the Academy, Hayden Hanes. They scored extremely high on our entrance exam and will be an excellent candidate to join the Pleasantview coven upon graduation. Please make them feel welcome."

Ewan left the students together to introduce themselves and retreated to the staff quarters to collect his thoughts. No one had ever looked upon his academy with apathy. No one. Not even when he was a student himself. Hayden's exam score was the only reason that they'd been admitted mid semester. It wasn't uncommon, Adam's boyfriend had had a similar entrance to the school, but Hayden's lack of academic knowledge was still baffling. Theo had had to be introduced to basic magical theory and academic structure when he joined at age six. Hayden was sixteen and had about the same level of academic experience. They knew very little about how to set up a cauldron for potions, but their potion work was exceptional. Their abilities rivaled Ewan's himself, which was incredible for a teenager.

"Hi, I'm looking forward to working with all of you," Hayden said with confidence. "I've heard a lot about some of you. Some of you even practice old, extinct magic from what I hear. It's rare to meet someone else who can perform blood magic."

"Of course they're only interested in Theo," Lexy sighed. "Every single person who walks through the door only wants to talk about Theo and blood magic. He's turning our school into a side show."

"I did some blood magic too," Adam insisted, missing Lexy's point. "And Hayden can too, apparently. Maybe the one holding the school back is jealous people like you."

Remy tried to listen to her twin, but she was distracted. Adam had finally decided to raise his voice since reading their parents the riot act at the Maricourt meeting and now he couldn't be stopped. It was always "Theo this" and "Theo that" and "isn't Theo great?" It was enough to make a sister want to vomit. Adam was insufferable and Theo only made things worse.

But this new kid had potential. Maybe Remy could get on Hayden's good side and have them tutor her so she could finally make Adam shut up about her skills. Hayden was also easy on the eyes. She wasn't about to cheat on Malika, but a girl could still appreciate beauty when she saw it.

"Thanks for coming, Edana. I need your opinion on something."

Edana Darktide-Traver glared at her ex-husband, but couldn't deny being curious as to what could possibly need her input. Since the meeting, things had been frosty between the ex spouses. Adam's outburst had divided the two, as most of his blame had rested on his mother, while Ewan seemed to get a pass despite sharing her opinions on Theo.

"It must be something important for you to call," she said. "Do you have another bastard kid that you found out about?"

"No, it's this new student," Ewan replied, ignoring Edana's comment. "There's something off about them and I just can't figure it out. Everything about them is weird and I can't put why finger on why exactly."

"A new student? So what? Expell them if you don't feel right about it. This isn't my problem."

Edana turned to leave, but her ex-husband reached out for her before she could exit the strange conversation.

"No, I mean it, Edana. I-I need your thoughts on the matter. You've always had a gift for seeing the intentions of others. If there's something dangerous about this student, I know that you can feel it."

"Oh? I wasn't able to see your intention to throw me under the bus with the kids. We both went to that meeting and Adam's only angry at one of us."

"You got carried away by yourself," Ewan snapped, crossing his arms. "It's not my fault that you were so hard on Adam."

"You were just as hard on him! You know what? Figure out this mystery on your own, Ewan. I'm done with this. We're not married anymore, and I'm not in your coven. I'm done with you."

"Edana, wait! I'm not wrong about this kid, I know it! I-Remy has a crush on this kid! It was clear as day from the moment they locked eyes. We need to get ahead of this for our daughter's sake."

Edana's eyes narrowed dangerously. He didn't seem like he was lying, but this too could be a trick. Ewan wasn't above lying to get what he wanted and he knew that she would do anything for her children. However, it would be just like Remy to rush into something with someone completely inappropriate; Watcher only knew that Adam was doing the exact same thing.

"Fine," she conceded, grinding her teeth to keep from hexing her ex. "What else is weird about this kid?"

"They can execute dangerously powerful magic, but they don't have a clue about the correct stances or potion etiquette. They were bored looking at the school for the first time and said they'd seen several other impressive magical schools."

"So? The whole world doesn't revolve around Pleasantview, you know. There are other schools."

"Name three," Ewan replied skeptically. "No, that's too hard. Name one. There hasn't been a school to rival ours in centuries. Centuries. It's weird."

Edana frowned, but refused to indulge her ex.

"You're thinking about time, aren't you? That demonic bitch and her inept warlock got to you with stories of time travel and alternate universes? Well, they're wrong. Time doesn't work that way. This kid isn't a time traveller or whatever else you think. They're unimpressed with your school because it's tired and dated, not because they've walked the halls of ancient schools of magic."

"They have no guardian," Ewan insisted. "Their emergency contact can't be reached. I'm not even sure that they paid their tuition fees, but the office insists their story is true."

"So this sixteen year old is mind controlling your staff? Can you even hear yourself? Give me something tangible to work with instead of your guesses."

"Just...just keep an eye on them," Ewan said at last. "I can't prove it, but I know we need to look into this kid more. Call it a hunch. Please?"

"For Remy's sake, I'll try," Edana sighed. "I don't want her to stumble because of your poor parenting."

"Hayden" made sure to memorize every picture on the walls as they made their way toward the dining hall. Many of them were familiar.

I met him more than once. I went to her father's funeral. That guy was such a pain in the ass, the stories don't do him justice.

"Okay, warlocks. How do warlocks act? They're all about the wands and crystals- no that's just that specific coven. Think. You can do this. How many warlocks have you watched? Tons. Just wave your wand around and act pretentious, it's only for a little while."

Hayden pressed their palms against the wood table, drawing their focus to the mission at hand. Just laying their hands on the once living wood of the table, they could feel the remnants of what had once been. This had once been a mighty tree until it had been ripped from its roots and hacked apart to serve the dominant species of the planet. The tree still remembered the nest of birds that returned year after year to shelter in it. It remembered the way that sunlight felt against its bark, the way squirrel nails dug into its bark as they fought in the branches. It was a carcass now, empty of life, the cold darkness of death filling its every atom.

I could change this. It's too easy, really. Would it look like magic to the witches? It's not a bad idea to get some practice in.

Under their fingertips, the wood of the table began to awaken. Death had held it for centuries, but a faint ripple of energy pooled beneath their hands, echoing the faint memory of life and the ebb and flow of the ocean's waves.

"What are you up to? Can I join? You look lonely."

Remy blinked, trying to formulate a response to this reply.

Lukas snapped to attention, embarrassed to have been caught off guard. They had a purpose here and the intoxicating memory of sunlight and waves had left them vulnerable. They were trying to pass as a warlock, while trying to dispel Death's power simply because they were nervous. Of course warlocks didn't have the ability to regenerate life in the way they did. This young witch had interrupted them before they blew their own cover, inadvertently helping their mission.

"I was just thinking," they replied smoothly. "Thinking about the universe and the magic that governs it. Do you know how many generations of witches and warlocks came before us? You can feel their energy in the air around us, even if their names have faded into history. They're never fully gone from this world. "Yeah. That's for sure. My dad may have written a paper on that, I'm pretty sure," she lied, watching the being beside her react to her reaction. "Do you want to talk about it over some coffee?"

"What is she doing? She can't possibly be flirting with the weird new kid. Isn't she dating your aunt or whoever?"

Adam watched as his sister continued to edge closer to the mysterious teen.

"They're practically running away from her, I think we're safe," Theo noted. "Do you get a weird vibe from that kid too? There's something not right about them."

"Yeah. Maybe they're some rare kind of demon. They looked like they were staring at you in class this morning, maybe the sovereign sent them to report on you. I know I've heard that name before, I just don't remember from where. Have you heard of a Hayden Hanes before? Maybe they're distantly related and famous or something."

"I've never heard of it before," Theo replied. "It sounds fake."

"I'm kind of seeing someone actually," Lukas replied truthfully. Their relationship with Death had started the instant they came into existence and would endure even when the sun burned itself out. Humans could never measure up to a deity who returned their intense romantic feelings and had known them for millennia. Death was everything to Lukas and that would never change. He had even given his weary consent to this plan as long as no one mysteriously vanished and Lukas never embarrassed their teenage children with this scheme. Seeing as their twins attended another school entirely, Lukas was confident that they would never suspect their parent was wandering around Pleasantview disguised as a teenager.

"Oh yeah, me too," Remy said quickly. "Me and Malika have been dating for a while now. My parents hate it, so naturally I'm probably going to marry her someday. Unless I can find someone they hate even more."

She chuckled nervously as her brain tried desperately to think of something cool to say to salvage this conversation. Nothing came to her.

"Hey Theo. Hey Adam."

Travis Maricourt walked by Theo and his boyfriend, interrupting their view of Remy and her poor decisions.

"Oh! Travis! I need to talk to you! How did you do on the deadly curses exam?"

Theo scurried down the hall after the teen, dragging Adam with him.

"So where are you from?" Remy asked, clearly not taking the hint that Lukas wanted some privacy to practice their disguise.

Lukas paused, thinking of how best to answer that question. It was a fairly innocent one that they needed to have a consistent answer for.

"My dad's side of the family is from Pleasantview," they said truthfully. "Are there still Brokes around? It's been a long time, they may have all died or moved away by now."

"I don't think so," Remy replied. "I've never heard of any at least. Are they magic users? Maybe they moved to a different country's coven. You could always check the records. Maybe you have a cousin or an aunt or something that your dad doesn't know about."

"Hmm. I think it's been a little too long. My grandmother's name was Brandi. She went missing long before I arrived in the world and it devastated my dad. I don't think he'd appreciate me tracking his relatives down."

And it would be thousands of years too late. My father died eons ago along with any remainder of the Brokes.

"Are you really close to your dad?" Remy asked. "You must miss your parents. Boarding school is hard on everyone. I know Theo's parents really struggle with it and so does he, even if he won't admit it. It's okay to miss your parents. Unfortunately for me, my dad works here along with my half-sister, so I see them all the time."

Lukas paused, tracing a pattern on the table with their finger.

"No, I don't speak to my dad," they answered. "We had a falling out a long time ago and he said some horrible things. I'm close with my other father though. It doesn't matter. I have my own family now."

Remy gave them a strange look, and Lukas kicked themselves for nearly blowing their cover once again.

"I mean, I have a found family," they corrected. "My...boyfriend and friends."

Certainly not my husband and three kids. Nope, no one needs to know about them. Or my two ex-wives and kids with them.

"Travis, can I borrow your notes for the test on Friday?" Theo asked frantically. "Adam and I skipped class to, uh, study for another test."

Lukas' attention snapped from Remy and zeroed in on Theo's conversation. Here was the reason for this disguise in the first place. What was the little demon up to? What business did he have with the adopted son of a reaper and the biological son of the very witch who tried to destroy the Grim Reaper? It was suspicious and Lukas vowed to keep an eye on any further interactions between the two.

"Hayden?"

"Sorry," Lukas apologized. "I got distracted. You were saying?"

"Come hang out with me and Malika this weekend," Remy repeated. "You can bring your boyfriend and we could double date. There's a new horror movie coming out that we could see."

"Why not make it a triple date?" Lukas pressed. "Bring your brother and Theo too. The more the merrier, you know?"

"You mean hang out with my brother? I guess," Remy replied. "Theo and Malika don't always get along, but you're new here so I think they can share a movie theater for your sake."

"Awesome. It's a date then."

hohoho :33 i would love to share some of my spy thoughts! obviously most if not all of this is just headcannons and stuff but its sorta just kinda stuff i thought was cool! this is just kinda rambling but i've been wanting to get this stuff down in writing anyways so :3

I think spy probably grew up with pretty shitty parents, and ended up picking up petty thievery and pickpocketting to keep himself afloat (i also feel that ww2 probably influenced him and his childhood a lot but i havent really thought about how yet, maybe he ends up being involved as some sort of communications runner for the french resistance or somthn before he starts spying. also feel like it would make things really tense w/ medic at least when he first joins the mercs) . At some point he ends up meeting the team fortress classic spy, whos impressed by his skills and takes him under his wing to train as a spy apprentice. I hc that pyro and engie also have connections to tfc (pyros mom is the tfc pyro and engies grandfather is the tfc engineer), so they all might have met each other at some point in the past during this time. Spy proceeds to start his own spying career and becomes a pain in the ass of the entirety of tfc. After few decades he gets hunted down by the administrator and gets his contract.

Im torn on the idea of Scouts ma being Spy's like spy partner or whether he meets her during a mission in boston and then falls in love. I like both of them (scouts ma being a spy is awesome), but im leaning toward him meeting her in boston cause i feel like that would make more sense storywise. Spy wanted to name scout remy but scouts ma thought that was too french so she ended up naming scout jeremy.

Heres just some more like general stuff about him cause i got some ideas. Spies got like a shit ton of scars and tattoos and stuff, cause espionage will do that to you, but he's got like a secret disguise in his disguise kit that makes it look like he only has a few cool ones (the only one that knows is medic) (ive actually been implementing this idea into a fanfic that i've been writing but idk if that will ever see the light of day, we'll see i suppose). Spy's probably incredibly paranoid. Bro's got like those like death note-esque precautions in his entire room so he knows if anyone go's in there, and he's a super light sleeper. Hes also is pretty mistrusting of food and drink (hes had a few too many poisoning attempts), so sometimes he'll go a while without eating out of paranoia. Eventually some of the team notices and try to get him more comfortable and trusting with him in regards to that. Engie and Demo will go out of their way to ask him to help them cook so that he knows that the food is safe (he appreciates it a lot, though he probably wont admit it). I think that Spy is actually really similar to scout in like mannerisms (especially when he was younger), but he had to mask it when he began to spy (and also because he wants people to think hes cool). Sometimes that side of him breaks out on the battlefield, or after hes drank a little too much, though i feel like eventually he might let his walls down and be himself a little more with the team.

saw this on pinterest and i thought, why not do this for my main oc alma? so here’s a huge info dump about alma forrest :>

1. Alma is 16, and she has two sisters. An older sister who is 25 (Kisaiya) and a twin younger sister (Remi). Both Alma and Remi are estranged from Kisaiya, who left them for complicated reasons. Both Alma and Remi hold grudges against Kisaiya. Alma holds a deep grudge that she just can't get over, but she hides her anger pretty well. Remi lashes out when people mention Kisaiya, but when they are reunited, she forgives her pretty quickly while Alma never quite gets over Kisaiya's abandonment. Alma and Remi were very close as children, even more so after Kisaiya left them. They developed a co-dependent relationship (they were 9 years old for stars' sake). However, they slowly drifted apart due to many reasons. Nowadays, their relationship is complicated, but they've been working through stuff. But out of the two sisters, Alma is definitely closer to Remi.

2. Alma (and Remi) were raised by Kisaiya on the streets ever since she was 4 years old, both she and Remi can't remember their life before that. Therefore, she doesn't have a relationship with her mother (she doesn't know who her mother is). When Alma and Remi were younger, they asked Kisaiya about their parents, which always upset Kisaiya and resulted in her snapping at the two. So they don't ask her about their parents anymore. Sometimes, however, she wonders what her mother would be like.

3. Same with the reply to 2, Alma doesn't know who her father is.

4. Yes, when Kisaiya left Alma, she was forced to quickly shove down her own tumultuous emotions to take up the role of a reliable older sister between herself and Remi. This is because Remi has always been impulsive and hot-headed, which gets her in a lot of trouble on the streets. This made Alma a lot more responsible and her childhood was basically cut short. She became a very paranoid person after this, always cautious of what harm could come her and her sister's way. To ensure that they can survive on the rough streets of Dragonmiles (the city they live in), she becomes more selfish in order to provide for the two. Kisaiya's abandonment had resulted in Alma developing some issues regarding interpersonal relationships. Her abandonment issues and trust issues were debilitating for the first year or so after what happened with Kisaiya. Although she tried hard to work through her problems in the following years, she was never quite the same person as before after that.

5. A pocket knife (for self-defence) and sweets (for my other oc, Cassidy, who burns away calories way too quickly due to her powers). If the story took place in our world, it would probably be a taser/pepper spray and sweets.

6. Alma doesn't dream often, but when she does, it's usually random stuff that doesn't make sense.

7. Like what I answered in 6, Alma doesn't dream often. Sometimes when she does have nightmares, they are typically about the people she cares about dying in front of her/leaving her/betraying her etc.

8. No, she hasn't. The only way for her to get a gun in her situation is to interact with the shadier side of Dragonmiles, which she purposefully stays away from. Even though she committed petty crimes and robbery in her early days of surviving on the streets without Kisaiya to sustain herself and Remi, Alma doesn't want to dip her hands in the criminal underbelly of the city (in fear of bringing negative attention and harm to herself and the people she cares about).

9. Sort of?? She doesn't squat in abandoned houses anymore, which is a huge improvement. She currently lives with her chosen family of three other girls (my other main ocs). She has somewhat of a parental figure whom she apprentices under (he is an ex-military medic and was seen as the medical genius of his time before things happened, and he was disgraced). At least now she doesn't live on the streets anymore, so that's a huge improvement

10. No preference. Although she does like the feeling of longer sleeves and longer shorts/pants.

So. I’ve been bouncing back and forth who Logan works with in the tattoo parlor, for the Begotten!AU.

These details may change. But I want to say (these are going to be in the background - story’s still centered on the twins and their family)...

Orange is the receptionist. (Going to leave room based on how he’s going to be characterized in canon...)

Remy is a tattooist and potentially the senior/mentor to Logan in that occupation. Probably a vampire (still not 100% on which clan he’s with.)

c!Thomas - apprentice body piercer. Probably gonna be a plain old human in this AU. Probably.

Nico - regular visitor/customer that goes there to chat Thomas up. Human, probably.

Logan - tatooist and sometimes body piercer...

Not sure yet for Emile, maybe Virgil’s employer, maybe one of Janus’s staff members... (Virgil works in security.)

Again, not focal characters (will ruin pacing/flow otherwise)... just batting things around in my head.

I think some may suspect it, those who were around to know of his champion at least. But no one confirms or denies it. Other's think Remy is the child of the champion and their godly parent was swiftly dealt with for canoodling with V'a champion.

Some say V made Remy himself, from his night sky and pieces of the moon, and made them his apprentice

And few claim that they're Patton's, and only because Patton was often seen caring for Remy.

The speed at which your gaze darts from Viktor to the woman in the doorway while they talk is almost dizzying.

You notice that her face looks a little flush and she tends to fidget with her glasses when Viktor speaks or even looks at her. She did just come out from a warm-ish building, maybe the cold air is fogging up her lenses or something…

“We must’ve had the same idea.” A soft grin creeps onto his face while he looks from her up to the top of the building. His brows raise while he examines how impressive the size of the structure is. Still, he seems genuinely happy that she got there before he did, even though that probably meant he lost out on renting the space.

“I guess so…” She sounds a little guilty about beating him to the punch. Must be a good spot for the work they’re trying to do. “Although maybe we could share it?” She looks over at the man that you assumed had been showing her around.

“Can’t, we need the rest of the space for apprentices—only have enough room for one extra.” The man looks over at you, almost sizing you up and you turn your head while you try to place where you’ve seen him.

Viktor purses his lips, shaking his head before he turns back to Sky. “That’s alright, I’m happy you found a place for your work.” His smile is warm, even sweet when he meets her gaze again and you can’t help but notice her eyes darting from him, downwards, back up—that looks dizzying too. “And I’m excited to see what you present.” You can tell he actually means what he’s saying to her and doesn’t seem put out at all. You think she must be a really good friend until you notice her body language.

She’s fidgeting with her glasses again, and unable to hold eye contact with him before she’s barely able to murmur “You too.”

…ahhh hell.

She likes him too.

“You’re The Butcher’s boy aint ya?”

All of the color drained from your face when the soot-covered man spoke. You feel both Sky and Viktor’s eyes on you while you swallow and try to quickly navigate how to handle this. Anytime you heard someone refer to your father as ‘The Butcher’, it definitely wasn’t a compliment.

“Well…Remy’s now.” You finally placed where you knew him, he’s one of the blacksmiths that helped forge the weapons your father needed years ago. You haven’t seen him since you were a kid, but this wasn’t exactly the time or place you wanted this reunion to occur.

He scoffs and his shoulders tightly pull the fabric of his shirt when he crosses his arms, causing the muscles in his forearms to bulge even more. You don’t remember him being quite this behemoth, but clearly a lot has changed…except for his pleasant disposition.

“S’pose that’s true. I’ll never understand why a guy like him would risk his reputation for that son of a bitch’s kid.”

You catch a view of Viktor over the man’s shoulder and his expression is one you haven’t seen before. His eyes are piercing, practically boring a hole into the back of the man’s head. His brows are knitted tightly and you make a mental note to never get on his bad side.

While you were thankful that he clearly wasn’t happy with how this guy was talking to you, you also didn’t want to see him upset. This was nothing you hadn’t heard before, but watching Viktor witness it was something that hit you harder than you were anticipating.

You gather your composure with quick inhale and address the man. Despite his words creeping under your skin, you brush off his comment and lean into pretending to feel small—which you’re sure was his goal anyway.

“Guess he’s a sucker for a charity case.” You pause when he takes a step towards you and you force a strained smile while you hold your ground. “Lucky me.”

The blacksmith takes another step and his massive frame casts a shadow as he towers over you. He had to be twice your size...you need to play this smart—you couldn’t take him in a fight and again, this isn’t the time or the place for any of this.

You notice Viktor start to take a step as well, but you subtly flex your fingers out by your side—silently asking him to stay where he is. He glances down to your hand and pauses. While his expression looks pained, he does as you ask and doesn’t move any closer.

“Listen, you both look like smart kids.” Even though he’s facing you, you know he’s talking to Viktor and Sky. “But this one’s got rotten lineage—bad blood.” The man doesn’t even flinch while he talks about you like you’re not even there. “This isn’t the company you want to keep if you want to go anywhere.”

“I’m afraid you and I don’t share that sentiment, sir.” Viktor’s voice startles you and your eyes widen when you hear how guttural it’s become. His mild demeanor completely ransacked by a low tone with sharp edges as his accent hangs onto the ‘t’s and d’s’ in his sentence. “And I’m capable of discerning the kind of company worth keeping.”

You glance over to see that this time, it’s Viktor that doesn’t flinch.

You can’t fight the faint grin that ghosts onto the corner of your mouth, your eyes are heavy with admiration and the visible anger within him slightly subsides once you catch his eye.

The blacksmith scoffs and turns to address Viktor one more time. “You’re better off sticking with her.” He motions to Sky and your poker face that you’ve maintained while under scrutiny finally falls away when he starts to walk back towards the warehouse.

“She’s got a good head on her shoulders, but that one...” He jerks his head back to motion towards you before finishing his unsolicited advice. “That one will bring you nothing but trouble.”

You knew he was mostly talking about Viktor’s career, but it felt so much heavier than that. You also knew there was a good degree of truth to his words. As much as you didn’t want to admit it, you obviously weren’t about to make his life any easier.

But all of that feels contrived when Viktor’s eyes never leave yours. He barely even acknowledges the man that passes him, sending a message that he’s done talking about this and only responds with a calm and even voice.

“I’ll take my chances.”

“Let me know if you need help moving your equipment in.” The blacksmith talks to Sky one last time before going back inside.

You didn’t hear what she said in return, your attention is completely fixed on Viktor as he starts towards you. Your shoulders feel heavy, your eyes tired. A slow inhale is all you can manage to try and recover from the entire situation. That and Viktor’s gentle expression as he watches you come down from your adrenaline high.

“I’m not one to say I told you so.” You start, a smirk forming on your face as you huff a small laugh.

“Mm…well don’t start on my behalf.” Viktor’s tone is light, even amused while he straightens his jacket. “I consider that a bullet dodged. All thanks to your…ehh,” His brows twitch teasingly while a grin spreads across his face. “…infamy.”

You notice how quickly his anger has already faded and feel your own heartrate slow again. Just standing by him settles you down, and his playful energy only takes the edge off even more.

“You’re welcome then?” You joke, but when he pauses and glances up from buttoning his coat, the sly grin he gives you sobers your expression up immediately.

“That’s more like it.”

…send help.

“I’m so sorry, Viktor I had no idea.” Sky’s voice is rushed, breathy and sounds absolutely mortified.

…not exactly what you had in mind, but that’ll do.

“He was a completely different person until he saw…” She looks over at you and then back to Viktor.

“[Y/n]. And it’s not your fault.” He looks back to you and motions to Sky. “[Y/n], this is Sky. A…ah, colleague of mine.”

You hold your hand out for her to shake. “Nice to meet you, Sky.”

She smiles weakly, seemingly still shook up about what just happened before responding with “Nice to meet you too. I still can’t believe that just happened.”

Your nose crinkles while you shrug. “Sylas is honestly great; he trains some of the best blacksmiths in the undercity. You’ll have a good set up here.”

Viktor cocks a brow after you say the man’s name. He parts his mouth like he’s about to speak to you, but Sky responds first.

“You…know him?”

“Knew. But he shouldn’t give you any trouble. He’s harmless unless you’re…uh…me.” You give a crooked grin to lighten the mood but Viktor quips back dryly.

“Your definition of great is concerning.”

“Given the past 24 hours, that’s what you’ve found concerning?”

Viktor’s lighthearted chuckle is contagious and you can’t help but laugh as well while he tries to say “Fair point.”

You almost get wrapped up in the sound of his laugh, but manage to catch Sky’s expression shift.

“Sorry, just been a wild day already.”

“Same here. Have you two eaten? Maybe we can grab some lunch?”

You didn’t want to break the news that you both had a late breakfast and decide to leave that to Viktor.

Instead, you check your pocket watch and bite your cheek when you see how late it’s already gotten. “I’d love to, but I actually have a few things I need to go take care of. Thank you for the invite though.”

Sky nods at you before looking at Viktor. You catch her biting her lower lip while she waits for his answer and you tighten a strap on your bag so you can move better on the rooftops. Watching her crush on him doesn’t exactly bother you, but after recent events you don’t think your self-esteem can take another hit right now.

“You two have fun. Good luck hunting today, Viktor.” You tighten the last shoulder strap and exchange a grin with him before you start looking for an alley with a fire escape that you can reach.

You only take a few steps before he has you grinning ear-to-ear.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
