In my previous post, I mentioned that we were going out to eat at the newly opened restaurant in Sun Plaza. This is the Nan Yang Dao (南洋岛) restaurant we patronized, and boy was it packed. We were given just one menu so I gave it to mum to let her choose what she wanted. And she picked the Penang Fried Kway Teow (槟城炒粿条) I wanted to eat so I chose something else. My mum had barely eaten it when one random woman asked if the dish was good. She told her that it was indeed yummy. Stir-fried with bean sprouts, plump prawns, slices of fish cake and Chinese sausage, the kway teow were more savoury than sweet and full of wok hei. The noodles were mildly spicy but nothing we can’t handle.

Originally, this Signature Trio Mini Noodles (招牌迷你烫面) consisting of three different mini sized bowls of noodles were intended for mum but she had chosen hers. From right to left, I started off with the Pork Ball Noodle Soup (吊片猪肉丸面汤). Tasted like our fish ball noodle but with two springy pork balls. The yellow noodles, bean sprouts and shredded cabbage is soaked in the flavourful and wholesome broth.

The next bowl, I tried is the Penang Prawn Noodle Soup (槟城虾面) but the prawn is nowhere to be found! Instead, I get slices of pork, fishcake, bean sprouts and a quarter of an egg. Luckily, the yellow noodles were swimming in umami filled broth cooked with the extracted oil from the prawns’ head and shell.

So, this is where the prawn jumped itself into. The Seafood Curry Mee (海鲜咖喱面) had only one seafood and that is the prawn. The other so-called seafood were mainly prawn rolls or other items made from fish or prawn paste. The spicy curry cooked with coconut milk is rich and flavourful which goes well with the yellow noodles. If you are the type who likes to try many different dishes at once, be sure to order this trio of mini noodles.

To finish the meal, I had the Bear Iced Coffee (小熊冰镇咖啡). Came in a small jug and topped with a cute little ice bear. I love the thick bitter yet not too sweet milk coffee. We were seated next to the glass cabinet filled with lovely and yummy looking Puff Pastry Egg Tarts (酥皮蛋挞). Many customers were seen buying but we had to give them a miss as we were just too full at that moment. But we will order it the next time we are here.

Ipoh Kopitiam, 1411 S Garfield Ave, Ste 104, Alhambra, CA 91801
Tumblr media
Ipoh Kopitiam sure is popular, perhaps because there are so few Malaysian restaurants in the area. The owner is from Ipoh, Malaysia. The menu includes Malaysian and Singaporean food, including kaya toast, roti canai, rice dishes (Hainan chicken, nasi lemak, beef rendang), noodle dishes (wonton mee, prawn mee), side orders, and drinks (including Malaysian white coffee, Malaysia black coffee).
Singaporean curry laksa ($15.95): round rice noodles of medium thickness, curry broth, fried tofu puffs, sliced fish cakes, two huge head on prawns, 1 hard boiled egg, bean sprouts. The broth is medium spicy and deep with the flavors of lemongrass, galangal, and shrimp paste. Everything was tender and slightly sweet, including the prawns, egg, tofu, fish cakes, broth, etc.  I think the ingredients are better at Ipoh Kopitiam but I prefer the laksa at QQ Kopitiam in Pasadena – it seems more complex.
Malaysian white coffee ($3.95): similar to Vietnamese iced coffee, strong but sweet (it contains condensed milk), not as strong as Vietnamese iced coffee though
The space looks nice – new, clean, and bright with white walls and color pictures of hawker stalls. You can check in on the iPad by the entrance. There are parking spaces behind the restaurant and also in an underground garage.
4 out of 5 stars.

KFC has reduced its operations in Malaysia, shuttering more than 100 restaurants temporarily after months of a persistent pro-Palestine boycott of US-linked businesses triggered by the ongoing war in Gaza. QSR Brands, which owns and operates the KFC fast-food franchise in Malaysia, is suspending operations of 108 outlets nationwide, the Nanyang Siang Pau Chinese-language daily said, based on information from Google Maps. The maps show which KFC stores have had their status updated to show “temporarily closed”.
“KFC is not on the BDS list of targeted companies. But many Malaysians see any American fast-food operator to be related to Israel including KFC,” said Professor Mohd Nazari Ismail, chairman of pro-Palestinian group Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions Malaysia.
KFC and a few other US-based brands such as Starbucks and McDonald’s have been facing boycotts because of their perceived link to Israel since the war in Gaza started on Oct 7, 2023. KL-listed Berjaya Food, which owns 400 Starbucks stores in Malaysia, reported a net loss of RM42.6 million from October to December 2023, with owner Vincent Tan reportedly considering taking the company private.

OKAY nanami is a foodie and knows how to cook. How would you headcanon his cooking skills? Is he a skilled amateur home cook? What type of dishes would he make?
ohhhhh these are my favourite kind of asks!! omgggg don’t get me started on cook nanami 😭😭 [kinda got carried away loll] ˖ ᡣ𐭩 ⊹ ࣪ ౨ৎ˚₊
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nanami is most definitely a calm and collected man, in and outside the kitchen. he just dreams of a peaceful life, of maple syrup and butter-drenched pancakes in the early mornings with you. he’s a good cook, and he finds great pleasure in taking care of his loved ones through the meals he so meticulously prepares. gojo even offers one too many times to fund his restaurant if he ever decided to create a business out of his cooking skills. kento denies every time, but he knows the white haired sorcerer only means praise. he doesn’t want to lose his love for cooking by making it his day job and source of income. he’d only end up burning out from the brutal rush of the culinary industry. but he can’t deny that he’s fantasized about opening a small restaurant along the edge of a soothing malaysian beach with the love of his life. he’s be old and withered and you’d still be beautiful and immensely loved by him. he’d cook you your favourite dishes, and you’d scold him, saying there are clients waiting for their orders. he shakes his head, pushing the daydream away. the corners of his lips quirk up, remembering he is in the kitchen. cooking. for you. no clients, no stress, just his deep affection for the woman perched on the kitchen counter and the sizzling sound of the frying meat on the stove. he chuckles at your exaggerated inhale of the fatty aroma, leaning closer towards the heat. “careful, honey.” you pout as he seemingly pushes you away, but he’s quick to kiss it off. he’s rather smooch away your frowns and pouts than any burns. this was a recurrent situation一nanami happily cooking whatever complicated dish you desired, and you sitting there, watching him, and eventually, getting overly excited. he loves cooking for you, and you love to watch. you wouldn’t admit it, but you’re not often focused on the food he’s making, eyes wandering to how his back muscles twitch, his forearm flexes and the veins on his hands pop as he strongly, yet precisely, holds the expensive usuba knife you got for his birthday and swiftly chops whatever it is that he’s chopping. you can’t truthfully say you care at the moment, completely lost in thoughts. that is, until he pulls you out of your trance with a gentle peck on your warm, and now probably flushed, cheek. “you’re staring.” he teasingly coos, but how could you not stare? when he’s so… him. and you think you’re sleek and that by asking to help him every so often, you’d be off the hook. he sees right through your not-so-clever game. but he doesn’t mind, so he doesn't spoil your fun. there’s nothing he loves more than cooking for his girlfriend, so what a bonus it is to have her soothing presence and saccharine smile to keep him company?

our my baby
~a rosquez fic - pt1
word count : 467
just a little something that has been in my notes for days now…
On media day of the 2015 Malaysian GP, Marc found out that he was pregnant, and he wanted to tell Vale but each time he saw him he kept chickening out and then due to the chaos that ensued during the race, Marc choose not to tell Vale altogether, fearing that he might not believe him. Faced with a difficult decision, Marc resolved to keep the baby and had decided to step away from racing in the 2016 season. Together with his team, he carefully planed the narrative and actions they would tell the public.
With only one race remaining in the season, Marc didn’t have to keep his secret from the media for long, and since he wasn't visibly showing, no one suspected anything. His doctor had confirmed that everything with the pregnancy was progressing well, though he emphasized the importance of relaxation, warning that the stress Marc was experiencing could adversely affect the baby.
The season came to a close, but the torrent of hatred and vile remarks directed at him persisted. He did his best to shut it all out, even abandoning his phone, which Alex had taken away to shield him from the negativity. Yet, even in his hometown, whispers of disdain followed him, as people spoke behind his back. During every doctor’s visit, he was reminded of the importance of staying calm, as the stress was affecting the baby. But despite his best efforts, he found it nearly impossible to relax. The pregnancy had made him more vulnerable and emotional, and while he tried not to internalize the cruel words, he couldn’t help but question their truth. He wondered if vale Valentino was right—if he was indeed dangerous and reckless. Days were spent in torment, doubting whether he was fit to raise a child when he felt like a threat to those around him.
Marc had gone out with his family to try a new restaurant that Alex had been raving about. Although he couldn't eat much due to his aversion to the smell of food, he still joined them. Upon returning home, they were alarmed to find the front door already open. Rushing inside, they were met with a devastating sight: the house had been completely trashed, with debris scattered everywhere, broken decorations, and vile words scrawled across the walls, directed at him and his family. In that moment, it struck him—Valentino was right. He wasn't just a danger to himself but to everyone around him. As he lost consciousness, with Alex calling out to him and his mother desperately trying to rouse him, only one thought echoed in Marc Márquez's mind: "I am a danger."
