Hikari was fast asleep in her bed at the orphanage, cuddling her fairy doll. All of her friends got adopted, but she was the only one left. She felt so sad and alone.
Suddenly, she heard tapping on the window and went to look
(Return to neverland rp)
One family, the Darling family came into the orphanage, and Jane took a look at Hikari being alone. She thought she could use a friend. “Mama, can we take her?” Jane asked.
Wendy saw Hikari, and felt bad for her. “You’ll be free to come with us.” She said to Hikari. “You won’t ever be alone again.” Jane said to her new sister.

Ever think about how both Peter and Tink just fucking went through it when something very specific and crucial to their very way of life is denied to them (Peter getting his shadow stolen and being unable to fly/be happy, which can easily be seen as an allegory for depression, especially amongst children, ESPECIALLY neurodivergent children feel very free to debate with me on that I'm not claiming anything is canon just projecting/saying, and Jane not believing in faries which literally fucking KILLS Tink).
I know ppl joke about Neverland being.... hell (especially with the original book in mind) but you do wonder how much of a fucking purgatory does a place have to be where if the lack of belief towards one, or the loss of a quasi-physical attachment to you that is completely removable [sentient or not] is enough to basically make Never Land's equivalent of God [and/or/who is probably the goddamn island itself] give you the biggest proverbial middle finger since Shakespeare to 90% of his fictional characters.

I still cannot believe that they scrapped this beautiful, wholesome Wendy-centric moment & gave us I’ll Try instead. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song, but I would’ve preferred this so much more. I feel like we needed just one more scene with Wendy, & this would’ve been it. ✨

Day 15: Disney's Return to Never Land
Tumblr media
This movie came out in 2002.
Keep Reading has more.
Return to Never Land from Disney (February 2002), an authorized animated sequel to the 1953 Disney film. Wendy's daughter Jane becomes involved with Peter Pan. The movie takes place during World War II, set amidst the Blitz (1940), and deals with the issue of children being forced to grow up too fast.

Here's the Spotify album….
And here is the trailer from Youtube…
Tumblr media
In truth, this is nothing special as it is just a reboot/sequel of the 1953 version. Same appearance as before for Captain Hook, just better animation.

DTVA/DTS TAGTEAM TWEET-ATHON MOVIE #36: RETURN TO NEVER LAND (2002)
Well, it was significantly less racist than the original film, so that’s already a plus in this film’s favor.
So it seems that there were a few sequels at DisneyToon (which still wasn’t called that at this point) that were deemed “good enough” to be released in theaters, and this is one of them.
I would say that this one probably deserved a theatrical release. I sort of like the subversions that this movie pulled over the original movie.
Let’s face it: Peter Pan is a jackass. He’s just not likable at all, and Wendy really didn’t do much about it in the original. Jane doesn’t take any of Peter’s bullshit, and her first instinct upon meeting Peter is to punch him in the face.
I really like how this movie is set during WWII, it helped to add some dramatic stakes to Jane’s situation, and it was neat to see how each member of her family coped differently.
Hook and Smee are still the same, though the octopus is just a poor replacement for the crocodile. Tinker Bell was still pretty fun, it was nice to see her still trying to randomly kill in this one, before I fear that trait of hers is erased in her standalone movies.
They also do the Tinker Bell dying subplot from the original play in this one, and it just feels kind of forced.
The animation is definitely a step up for these animators. I liked the dynamic uses of shadow and water effects. The CGI really was jarring though, almost at Treasure Planet levels of jarring.
Probably the weakest part of the film was the music. I dunno, I feel like generic pop probably wasn’t the best choice for the big musical numbers in the movie. Even the song by They Might Be Giants was weak.
Overall, a pretty good sequel that definitely stands on its own, but suffers its own share of problems.
8.5/10: Jane just wants to go punch some Nazis, Peter. Is that too much to ask?

Tbh, I'm kind of obsessed with the almost tragedy of Eiland and Caldarus in Fields of Mistria. Eiland's dedicated his life to uncovering the secrets and stories hidden in Mistria's archeology - he's single-mindedly devoted to it, so much so that even his side hobbies are influenced by his love of history and desire to know more about Mistria's but it's that devotion that makes him so blind to the magic right in front of him.
It's Eiland's sharp eye that sees Caldarus' statue behind that tree on the farm. It's Eiland who whacks away at the bark with the axe fruitlessly until he's assisted. It's Eiland who coaxes the player to help repair Caldarus' statue and subtly ropes them into joining his History Society. It's Eiland who is devoted to the steles, who gets so excited at the prospect at uncovering a new piece of old Mistria's puzzle that he cuts his outing short to rush to the museum. It's Eiland who realises that all of the different eras of artefacts dug up in Mistria's soil must mean that Mistria itself was once the cradle of civilisation for Aldaria.
And yet, with all of that knowledge, he's still so, so blind to what's right in front of him. He doesn't realise that Juniper is a witch, he merely knows that she is familiar with all manner of the arcane and assumes it's a scholarly pursuit like his instead of what it actually is - Juniper's lifestyle, Juniper's culture. And ultimately, I think that's why he's blind to Caldarus and the magic right in front of him.
Eiland isn't taking the time to stop and really think about what all these artefacts and armaments mean. He isn't considering that remnants of old Mistria still live, he isn't even able to grapple with the question of whether or not it's right for him to dig up the armour at the stele when it's clearly hidden there for a reason. Eiland is completely detached from the history he's searching for and that's why, even with magic and the truth about Mistria right in front of him, he'll remain blind to it.

SO as an aromantic villain liker, I have to admit that whether aro or not, there's something compelling about Philip perhaps clinging to Caleb in part because of an alienation from the Other way of acquiring a Good God-Loving Family in his day and age. because if Caleb spurns their witch hunting dreams to go fall in love with a witch that's a perceived betrayal to Philip on two fronts, the witch sympathizing and the abandoning Philip for romance. it's compelling in a "Belos selectively ignores all the norms of his own oppressive belief system that he spurns, when he could have easily found a home amongst the freaks if he let go of his hate" way. it's compelling in an "adds even more parallels to Lilith, who avoids following his path, and shows that people who start in a similar place, with both genuine flaws and genuine instances of being wronged by the world, the latter not entirely unrelated to aromanticism, are still able to find joy instead of hatred, because aromanticism is not a destiny to endlessly suffer nor a destiny to do evil" kind of way.
BUT. unfortunately. I've seen way too many posts that just spew garbage like "Belos is evil because he's incapable of love, obviously! and the heroes are good and moral and (cough) not subhuman (cough) because they actually love people 🥰," just total horseshit right at the intersection of aphobia and ableism. just a total admission that they don't think love can ever motivate people to hurt anyone, that they don't think they can hurt anyone they love and no one they love could really hurt them, that love is a get out of jail free card when doing harm while harm is a get banned from love and humanity permanently card, so. basically, we can't have nice things.
