Ghost - Oscar Piastri x UnknownDriver! Reader Part 1

Plot: Reader is the first female F1 driver of the century, however no-one knows that as you are a ghost on the grid. You started in 2022, coming in P12 in the championship. You get moved to Red Bull Racing in 2023 with the off year for Sergio Perez.

You stayed hidden in your racing suit. Your current team-mate didn't even know who you were, like the rest of the grid. It was fun being all secretive and undercover. You didn't drive with your real name, and when your radio was aired it was only text. You could actually live like a normal person with no pressures. You didn't have to attend post-race interviews, or feel the pressure of the Paps everywhere you went. There was a certain level excitement of getting your first race win and being able to reveal to the grid who you were.

When you'd first been introduced as 'Ghost' people were confused at why you weren't using your real name. But you, as Y/N Y/L/N were always seen in the paddock and garages and you knew some of the drivers and they would often invite you to the after parties.

I mean you were posed as the media manager for 'ghost' which in itself was hilarious. You could post your own memes, and comment on your own driving. It was amazing.

However your home race, United Kingdom Silverstone was coming up.

You were so excited, even though you knew Lewis, George and Lando would be just as hyped up as you for the win. But this was the most motivated you'd been. Your family were in the crowd, the only people who knew it was you behind the helmet.

"Oh Oscar Hi" you greeted the other young driver.

"Hello" he said his thick aussie accent coming through.

"How's the ghost today then?" he asks, you'd been close for a while. He was actually your first friend here, it was funny actually how you bumped into him.

"You'd just finished up in Australia and had gotten your first podium finish in your rookie season. Oscar had been there as a reserve driver for Alpine and as you were fumbling in your drivers room, trying to rip your driving suit and balaclava off. You were making a lot of noise, and you'd tripped over yourself. You slung on your Alpine Team gear, tying your hair up in a ponytail and hiding the sweat under a cap.

A knock on your door had you stilled, you shoved the suit into a crate and moved across.

"Hello?" you'd asked swinging the door open, he jumped back a little seeing how quickly the door opened.

"Erm, hi isn't this Ghost's room?" he'd asked you. He was the reserve driver for Alpine and that's who ghost drove for in their first year.

"Your are not supposed to be here" you'd frowned looking at him.

"I know, but the engineers said i might find you here, to go answer some questions on Ghost's behalf, considering his er win today" he smiles awkwardly at you scratching the back of his neck. He watched as you eye him over.

"Who sent you?" you ask, it had to be the team principle right?

"Marcin, he was asking for you and Ghost" he explains.

"Well, its just going to be me, Ghost is preoccupied right now" you say slipping out and shutting the door.

"Hmmmm, its strange you are in his driver's room. Were you in there the whole race?" he asks cocking his head to the side.

"Erm, yes i don't like all the fuss in the garage so i tend to stay in there and watch"

"Ah okay" he's said before walking off ahead of you to show you exactly where you should be going.

That was how you'd become friends, you'd then heard around the Paddock that come 2023 he'd have his rookie season in McLaren while you moved to RedBull, or well Ghost did.

"You nervous about today?" he asks grinning, the question through you off and your head snapped up to meet his gaze.

"What do you mean, nervous? I'm not nervous. Its not like I'm the one driving... because i'm not" you say, with zero coolness and all the panic in your voice.

"You're rambling, of course you are nervous for Ghost. Today could be the day they take their first win. Would be cool!" he grins pulling you into a hug, he flicks your Red Bull cap a little before you fully tuck yourself into his large embrace.

"Oh yeah, i guess i am a little nervous for ghost but they are a good driver. I'm sure they'll get us some points"

"Yeah they're insane in the Red Bull this year. Rival for Max" he admits brushing a hand through his hair.

Yes! George Perez is the goat for me when it comes to Kory.

NTT is one of my favorite comics(rip) and I think that he balances the alieness of her with the very recognizeably human. She's very human! But she also is kind of catlike which is dope because tamarameans evolved from felines!

I of course picture Kory as black and w/ very coily hair but I do appreciate the way her looser curls flow into a very cool trail of fire behind her in his art.

It's hair but it's a cape and an accent to help track her across the page and a speed trail like it's genius!!!! Also, the really really saturated dark red contrasted to the more yellow tone of her skin makes her look like a living flame, which I kinda love and miss now that her hair tends to be more on the orange side. Like.

Stunning. I see the vision. I like to keep her very feminine but also more muscular definition but otherwise he's really what I'm trying to emulate. With a closer texture and warmer skin of course.

Tbh I can't even name all the fan artists that are doing sick shit with her but safe to say the starfire tag is wall to wall bangers. I especially like when people do really cool dark skin with pink/purplish red hair. It's a completely different kind of flame but still v evocative of the original concept!

Several drivers already cutting it very close to the barriers and ripping off advertising.

ZHO ripped off more than that and lost his end plate.

Which Charles promptly drove over and then got it stuck under his car, before a red flag could be called to clean up the debris.

Pierre was having PU issues and ended up being able to put in only a handful of laps

Charles was again on fire and finished at the top of the list. I honestly can't recall anything else happening!

Quali:

In Q1 plastic from advertising had wrapped around Charles's front wing end plate, messing up the aerodynamics and leading to much slower laps than anticipated.

Shock exit for PER as he placed P18 with only the Saubers behind him.

GAS managed to make it to Q3 much to Pierre's delight as he was shouting on the radio when told he was P5 in Q2. Teammate OCO ended in P11.

Bad luck seemed to follow Charles again as he reported something moved in the pedals, but he still took provisional pole.

Another super lap in the final stages of Q3 gave Charles his third pole in Monaco with an incredible 1:10:27.

Haas drivers HUL and MAG qualified P12 and P15 respectively, but ended up getting disqualified because they changed their wing and did no measure the height correctly. This meant a pit lane start for both of them.

Petit's Race Notes:

Ah, where to begin? Oh, I know!

CHARLES LECLERC WINS THE 2024 MONACO GRAND PRIX!!!!!!

Fingers and toes crossed at the start, but Charles was quick off the line. But behind him chaos unfolded...

Carlos bumped into Oscar and got himself a puncture which led to a yellow flag.

Next Checo and Kevin collided as K-Mag tried to squeeze through and Perez did not give him any space. PER hit the wall, got hit by MAG again, and then HUL also got hit for good measure.

The end result was that PER's car was reduced to the survival cell, debris was scattered all over the race track, both Haas's were out, and we had a 45-minute red flag for clean up and barrier repairs.

Meanwhile elsewhere on track OCO drove into GAS launching himself in the air and damaging both Alpines in the process. Gasly's car was repairable, but Ocon was out. He also received a 5-place grid penalty for Montreal and 2 points on his license. And Alpine is even rumoured to be considering having him sit out the next race...

With the red flag thrown before all cars entered sector 2, the order was reset for a second start.

Which meant Carlos (who'd been able to make it back to the garage) started again in P4, and Charles had to have another good start to keep his position.

This time all went well, and we were in for 75 laps of anxiety (Charles fans) / boredom (everyone else).

George (in mediums) backed up the pack, so it was 🔴🟡🔴🟡 at the front (McLarens in their special yellow Senna livery).

ALO led his usual DRS train - under the assumption he was P10 (found out after the finish that he was actually P11).

The remaining 16 (!!!) cars all made it to the finish line without further incidents.

Pierre Gasly scored his first point of the season.

There were only 6 pit stops the entire race.

After much nail biting and some lovely team radio sound bites, Charles came across the finish line and FINALLY won his home Grand Prix! 🙌

Not a dry eye in the house at the podium celebrations! The royal family was elated, with Prince Albert II crying, Charles's football buddies pumping their fists in the air, and the Prince also getting in on the champagne spraying.

Oscar was the only non-Ferrari man on the podium, but having been recently "adopted" by Charles, he was part of the family!

Watching on below the podium: girlfriend Alex, Mum Pascale, brothers Lorenzo (with girlfriend Charlotte) and Arthur, Joris, John Elkann, Andrea, Nicolas Todt, and the entire Ferrari team, with Ale lifting the P1 sign over his head! The Monaco/Italy anthem combo hadn't sounded like this since Monza 2019! 😍

Charles has already told Bryan over team radio that he wanted everyone to stay for celebrations, and celebrate they did - well into the night!

Fred and Charles also made good on their agreement to jump into the harbour (originally from 2018 when it was about scoring points).

Charles continues his streak of top 4 finishes this season, and is now only 31 points behind Max in the WDC.

I think we're all in for a rude awakening about the little dudes we like. Not that we should idolize or deidify anyone, but most of the responses have been abysmal.

It is… I wouldn’t call it shocking because it’s just not, it’s so expected, we see who these men hang out with, who they support and where they travel without a word. It’s just deeply disappointing.

Even with Lewis and George being the only drivers who made even the tiniest hint of a disapproving statement about Horner— there’s no sense of superiority there, because I know they both have happily hugged and shook hands with some of the worst celebrities out there. Cheesing with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, Elon musk in the garage or making posts with Neymar- people with well known histories of abuse. They’re speaking out now because it doesn’t truly affect them, it’s a softball practically speaking because they don’t have to look at their own relationships.

None of us can honestly say we 100% believe that if it was Toto in their place, they wouldn’t do the same pandering as max and checo.

But that’s also not an excuse for apathy about how fucking awful some of the others have been. Daniel, Lando, Perez, Max, Nico H all sat there disgustingly whining about how this is inconveniencing them. Valtteri and Lance made utterly inappropriate answers about how they’re just there to drive and jokes that this must be great for the media.

It doesn’t matter that it’s a no comment answer so they can’t be sued for libel, there is a woman at the centre of it all having her life ripped apart and being publically complained about by her colleagues after something horrible happened to her - the least you can fuckin do is have an inch of empathy to say no comment and not “oh I just like driving cars” Grow up, you’re adult’s being paid millions, not kids being asked complicated question. These guys have never been held accountable to make a serious comment and it shows in how they shrug it off.

We can’t let exhaustion make us roll our eyes and ignore it too. We have to hold them to account for what they’re saying. Too often I see people throw their hands up and talk about how this sport is shit and will never be better what did you expect, but that nihilism of thinking nothing can be fixed is also what lets these men get away with their behaviour. We have to keep demanding better of them or they’ll keep being comfortable with doing fuck all.

Ranking events I've read as I enjoyed them from most to least, with the top events being the most-enjoyable and the bottom events being the least.

No family specific events (batfam, superfam, etc) are counted, generally just big whole-world stuff.

Infinite Crisis - look is infinite crisis technically good? Probably no. But I enjoyed it a ton, it had both a coherent arc in the main comic AND a ton of fun side comic tie ins many of which were AWESOME.

Final Night - very nice self contained story that has a more survivaly beat than usual.... barda's like "RIP to all those other worlds the suneater came to but we're differente" and she's rIGHT

Our World’s at War - I remember disliking this one at first but then I started loving it and I have no clue why. Sorry. But it was fun. greatly boosted by jimenez's wonder woman.

Final Crisis - look, the main plotline is incomprehensible and stupid. But I love all the tie ins and if you read the omni it really succeeds in creating a universe-scale feeling conflict. is this most likely sunk cost fallacy? who cares

Crisis on Infinite Earths - it goes on too long (like IIRC they have to defeat Antimonitor 3 times?) But supergirl is super badass and george perez is the artist

Invasion - general fun alien invasion shenanigans. Superman clocks in to work at the worst time of his life

War of the Gods -IDK there were some good tie ins and wonder woman doing stuff. not the most amazing but not terrible either.

Blackest Night - too much boring green lantern stuff i didn't care for, but it gives us brightest day later which has amazing mera content, so that boosts it up.

Day of Judgment - I can't remember a ton about this so it's here. I don't remember disliking it. Hal became Spectre IG?

Zero Hour: Crisis in Time - i literally remember very little about this event. I remember I didn't hate it and there wasn't a lot to complain about, but not a ton besides Damage resetting the universe for what I liked... this seems like an appropriate place.

Joker: Last Laugh - mostly boring but there is some nice babs stuff and the scene where dick beats the joker to death is satisfying

Eclipso: the Darkness Within - the actual plotline itself wasn't *terrible* but the effects (eclipso 17 issue series which was pointlessly edgy and killed beth and yolanda) were awful

Knight Terrors - a pointless event that was way too long, but at least it didn't actively make things worse (except for comics being cancelled for a couple months). it was like. just there. who was this for?

Amazons Attack! (from the late 2ks, not the recent "Amazons Attack") - god this sucked so much. The writers were completely unfamiliar with wonder woman lore but still did a wonder woman event.

Lazarus Planet - a pointless non-event that didn't even have enough plot for more than 2 issues, tied into mark waid's cringiest miniseries, AND destroyed the pacing on Monkey Prince.
