Golden Bears Pull Away For Win

CAL STARTS ACC ERA WITH VICTORY

Defense Has Three Interceptions In 31-13 Victory

BERKELEY – The California football team pitched a second-half shutout to pull away from UC Davis in a 31-13 victory in its 2024 season opener at California Memorial Stadium.

The Golden Bears recorded three interceptions, including one by senior Nohl Williams, who also returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

"Nohl was awesome," Cal Head Coach Justin Wilcox said. "The kick return was huge. It was a momentum changer. I really like his competitiveness."

Redshirt freshman Nyziah Hunter had four catches for 47 yards and his first career touchdown in his collegiate debut while Jaydn Ott added two scoring runs for Cal, which has won all 12 meetings all-time against the Aggies.

Linebacker Cade Uluave and transfer cornerback Marcus Harris also picked off UC Davis quarterback Miles Hastings while Ott and junior Mavin Anderson each also added four receptions. Sophomore Fernando Mendoza started for Cal and went 15-for-22 for 158 yards and a touchdown. Transfer Chandler Rogers also saw time for the Bears, completing 3 of 6 passes for 21 yards and also gaining 17 yards on the ground.

"I didn't really expect to play this game. I just came in ready," Hunter said. "I kind of blacked out when I scored that touchdown. There was so much emotion going through my body."

The Aggies took a brief 13-7 lead late in the second quarter before Williams ran back the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. The Bears would not relinquish the advantage again, as Ott and Hunter found the end zone in the second half and new placekicker Ryan Coe booted a 25-yard field goal.

"In the first half, we had good effort but our execution was lacking," Wilcox said. "We weren't in any type of rhythm as a team. I'm really proud of the way the guys persevered through that. Once you get out there and you trust your training. … all of the sudden things start going your way. It was really a tale of two halves."

Cal travels to Auburn next Saturday for its first road game of the season. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PT and the game will air on ESPN2.

“A droid attack flare?” OMG REX DID NOT HESITATE. Even Cody was shocked.

At this point, “Roger, roger” is basically enough to send Rex’s spidey senses into overdrive.

“Woah, Rex! What the heck are you doing?” An even less of a “bad” word? In my animated children’s television show?! 

Also lawl @ Rex’s drawled “Relax” after shooting the droid disguised as a clone at point blank range.

Does Cody not have his gold paint yet?! His armour looked distinctly grey, though they are on a moon so the lighting might be why it looks grey.

“Off the platform!” Rex you just yeeted yourself. And Cody. You actually want to be yeeted don’t you Rex?

Cody is the kind of friend who would jump off a cliff if his friend said to.

What happened on Tibrin? I must know. Is this The Clone Wars version of what happened in Budapest? Will we never know?

It’s a tiny little exchange but you can really tell from the change in voice how familiar Rex and Cody are with each other already.

Also that shot of Rex after he lands from their lines under the platform is absolutely a hero shot and hero pose. There’s quite a few of these throughout the episode and you can really tell that this is absolutely the introduction episode of Rex. So many moments throughout this episode exist just to show what an absolute BAMF he is. Seeing as the character was originally supposed to be Alpha-17 it makes sense. You can really Rex’s jaig eyes really prominently throughout this episode too. Makes sense, seeing as they’re on the front of his helmet, but it almost feels even more emphasised that you’d expect.

Naw Echo and Fives getting medals. And joining the 501st! Also their completely in sync salute and about turn was the definition of crisp. I know it’s probably just the same animation copied and pasted but we can ignore that and focus on how it’s totally cause they’re the twins in their batch.

OMG THAT EPISODE. MY HEART. CLONES. THE CLONES HAVE MY HEART. EVERYTHING FOR THE CLONES. 

I think I’m going to have to go back and watch some episodes again because when I first watched this I a) didn’t remember most of it and b) hadn’t started to fall in love with the clones. I should imagine coming back and watching important and memorable episodes again after the finale will have another different meaning to it all as well. Though, given what happens in the finale, I might need to wait a bit. Maybe I’ll come back to it after watching Rebels and a few other things I want to catch up on. I did realise though that I did actually watch this episode when I started watching The Clone Wars, I just didn’t remember most of it. The only bits that I remembered were when the 4 clones (Echo, Fives, Heavy and Cutup, I think) escaped through the tunnels to outside the base, right before Cutup got eaten by that eel.

At the time of this writing, Santa Sangre is available to stream from Shudder, AMC+, Screambox, Kanopy, and Tubi, and is available on physical media from Severin in three releases: Blu-ray (2011), 2-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray (2021), and a 4K Ultra HD 4-Disc Limited Edition Collector’s Set (2021). Both 2021 releases are made from a 4K scan of the original negative supervised by the director.

Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The Corn Maze Incident.

“Can you tell us about the night at the corn maze ms.rogers?” the police officer said with great worry and concern. 

“No, I can't do this anymore.'' Mary said in a mix of anger and grief as she got up from her chair throwing her bag around her shoulder. A tiger mask and a fox mask suddenly fall from her bag. She stared at the 2 masks in horror and threw her bag to the ground as she backed up now trembling.  ”I didn't ... .why….why were they in there?'' Mary proclaimed in a loud whisper. 

“Please we just want to get to the bottom of this” the police officer stated with a look of pity on his face.

”...fine.” Mary said as she sat back down not going to pick up her bag or the masks. 

“It all started when me and 2 friends from high school decided to go to a pumpkin patch with my kids Joshua and Alice...”

 “God, I can't even remember the last time I've been to a pumpkin patch, ” said Amy, a woman with short brown hair and brown eyes. 

“I think it was our freshman year field trip,” said Mary, who has dark blond hair and gray eyes . 

“Maybe your freshman year field trip, I was still in middle school. You guys got lucky, my freshman field trip was to the history museum." Sarah said with an annoyed tone to her voice. 

The 3 women walk and 2 kids run through an archway with big orange letters at the top reading "PUMPKIN PATCH (now featuring our new corn maze!) ”. Upon entering they saw a man at a desk who was yelling ”COME EXPERIENCE OUR NEWEST ATTRACTION THE GREAT CORN MAZE, KIDDOS GET A FREE MASK! ”.

 “Can we go, can we go!?” the 2 children said semi in sync. 

“Sure i don't see why not'' Mary said while patting their heads. The 2 kids ran over to the desk where there was a wide variety of different animal masks.  Alice picked up a fox mask while Joshua picked up a tiger mask. The 2 kids put on their masks and all 5 walked inside the corn maze.

 ”I hope this doesn't take long.” Amy jokingly said towards sarah. They walk around for what feels like forever.

 “How long is this maze?” Sarah said annoyed. 

“Mommy my legs hurt.” said Alice, clinging to her mothers leg. they heard what sounded like the giggle of a child. Joshua ran in the direction of the child while Alice was still clinging to her mother. 

“JOSUA GET BACK HERE ,PLEASE STAY WHERE I CAN SEE YOU” Mary yelled in a concerned tone, but it was too late when they turned the corner to find Mary's lost son he was gone.

 “Ok everyone split up, we have to find him” Mary said with determination in her voice. 

”Can I go with Sarah,” Alice said. A young adult clearly younger than the other 2 pulls down her hood to reveal her long black hair and almost teen-like features. 

“Of course you can hun,” said Sarah, kneeling down to Alice's level. Alice hugs Sarah and everyone goes their own way. It felt like they had been looking for hours. The sun had even started going down when Mary heard loud fast footsteps in the dry grass behind her,its sarah. 

“I DON'T KNOW WHERE SHE WENT I TURNED AROUND FOR 1 SECOND AND POOF SHE'S GONE '' Sarah screams in a panic. 

“It's alright don't worry we will find them” Mary says with empathy for the worrying scared Sarah while hiding panic in her voice. They walk around a  while longer with no sight of Amy or the 2 kids. until the 2 women turn the corner and there they see it… 

“...Mary…you need to see this.” said Sarah with a trembling voice almost in tears. Mary turns around to see the body of a boy with dark brown hair in a tiger mask lying in the dried grass which is now soaked in the boys blood. It was unclear how he died but he was surely dead. The 2 women were frozen in horror. 

Mary stepped towards her child lying in the grass and kneels down next to his body, trembling.,“....My baby…..oh my baby..who..did this to you…” the grieving mother said, choking back tears. She kissed her son's head and said ”I love you my baby ... .rest easy now..” 

As much as Mary wanted to stay with her child she knew she still had a child alive who needed her protection from whatever did this to her son. She grabbed Sarah's arm and dragged her away with tears filling her eyes. They walked for a while in silence Mary Still holding back her tears. 

 As Sarah was about to say something the 2 were startled by the sounds of a woman screaming. They both ran to the source of the sound and there they saw it. Amy was collapsed crying on the ground as a young girl with dark blond hair and a fox mask hangs from a tree above.

”No…NO NO NO!” Mary is now in a panic, both of her children had fallen victim to whatever was in that maze with them, Mary grabs her friend's arms and runs searching for an exit, help, something until eventually they get to a 3 way intersection. Mary froze unsure of what to do, tears filling her eyes as she loudly sobs mourning the brutal loss of her children.

 Suddenly through the left path appears the vision of a boy in a tiger mask. The 3 girls are shocked. Shortly after from the right path appears a little girl in a fox mask. Mary is frightened at the sight of her dead children standing in front of her. When all of a sudden there is the flickering vision of a young child in a bear mask. 

“I couldn't help them,” the child said in a quiet, almost whisper-like voice. “But let me help you.” as the 3rd child flickers in and out of view the 3 women hear the man from the desk again.

 “COME EXPERIENCE OUR NEWEST ATTRACTION THE CURSED CORN MAZE, CHILDREN MUST GRAB A MASK” suddenly the 2 girls beside Mary disappear. Everything goes black…. 

“And then I woke up in the hospital….”

Miután meglátogattam a finn Mikulást, átléptem az északi-sarkkör képzeletbeli határát, jártam rénszarvasfarmon, megmártóztam a Jeges-tengerben, huskyk húzta szánon raliztam hófödte finn tájakon és paparazzikat megszégyenítő elánnal örökítettem meg az északi-fény minden árnyalatát, nos, ezek után most újra itt vagyok.

Az elmúlt hetet keretbe foglaló, nagy műgonddal válogatott, valamint gondosan szerkesztett, a lenyűgöző tájról tanúbizonyságot tevő és így finn kalandomba betekintést nyújtó, napjában megannyi platformra többször posztolt „pikcsörcunami” után, „nyomtatott” formában térek vissza.

Bár a „puskapor” mostan még szárazon tartatik, ám a finnugor nyelvrokonságnál nagyobb bizonyossággal mondhatom, egyszersmind ígérhetem, hogy a lappföldi móka ismertetése nem fog asztalfiókom magányában maradni.

Az „előző részek tartalmából” szlogent kölcsön véve, a kronológia merev szabályrendszeréhez tartva magam és a visszatekintés metszőollóját segítségül hívva nézzük mi történt eddig.

Egy áldás békesség kezdetű, „mi vár rátok, ha ezt olvassátok” indíttatású gondolat jegyében megfogalmazott bevezetés után, aki még nem ismerte volna, megtudhatta ki volt Rotterdami Erasmus és képbe kerülhetett család- és előzménytörténetemmel is. Félreértés ne essék, távol álljon tőlem, hogy elbagatellizáljam a témát, de Roger „apánk” túlontúl nagy hevű prezentációja és gyanús méregetései közepette olyan érzése támadhatott az ember gyermekének, mintha már az előtérbe várná a helyi TEK (Terrorelhárítási Központ). Képzeletemmel játszadozva, gondolatban már rénszarvasokat simogattam a finn télben, amikor a délelőtti program záróakkordjaként az utolsó prezentációt megtartó két idősebb hölgy látszólag beletörődve vette tudomásul, hogy a nagy öreg Roger és az ifjú titánok kétségkívül elvitték a show-t aznapra.

A jövőbeni csodálatos kirándulások idealizált képétől megigézve turbófokozatba kapcsoltam és azontúl, hogy kiváltottam, valamint kézhez kaptam diákigazolványomat, még arra is futotta időmből, hogy a lakbér kifizetése mellett buszbérletem is megváltsam. Ezt követően – vigyázat olcsó szóvicc a láthatáron - maga volt a megváltás - egyszersmind a time management (időgazdálkodás) megkoronázása -, amikor két „szerelmes” párharcának második felvonásában, mint régi ismerős toppantam be a MediaMarkt-ba az előző bejegyzésben tárgyalt - az internethez és világhoz való kapcsolódás ígéretét magában hordozó - adapterért. Így értem hát produktivitásom csimborasszójára. És még csak éppen elkezdődött a délután!!!

Szó, mi szó, úgy hozta az élet, hogy az előző nap megismert cimbórákkal – jelesül Simonnal és Annával – ugyanabba a csapatba kerültünk az említett két esemény idejére. A Submarine névre hallgató, nációkban gazdag team a Béta-házban (a számtalan kolesz egyikében) tartotta pre-party-ját, vagyis az esti beavató buli előtti alapozást. Csapatvezetőnk állampolgárságát illetően talányosan csak annyit mondhatok, magyar ismerőseim száma újabb fővel bővült …

A pre-party fesztelen légköréből egy-kettőre az „akadémiára” teleportáltunk csapatostul. Összehúzott szemöldök okozta értetlen pillantások közepette teljes joggal kérdezheti kedves Olvasóm, milyen akadémiáról hadoválok. Nos, a helyi nyelvjárásban az „Akademien” elnevezéssel illetik az egyetemisták legfőbb bulizóhelyét. Korrekt, többtermes, viszonylag jó árfekvésű helyszíne ez a bulizni vágyóknak.

Itt aztán egy, az egyetemisták körében közkedvelt és általam is sokra taksált „sportágban”, a beerpongban csillogtathattam tudásomat. Francia csapattársamtól ellesett büszke öntudattal mondhatom – mindenfajta nagyzolás nélkül -, hogy senki sem fogott ki rajtunk, veretlen francia-magyar tandemünk sikeresebb volt, mint a két nemzet közti bárminemű kooperáció a történelemben, bár országaink közös históriájának baljós éveit alapul véve ez nemigazán meglepő. C’est la vie!

LiveU Delivers a Slapshot of Innovation for Edmonton Oilers - Videoguys

The Edmonton Oilers, led by Ryan Hyrcun, the Manager of Video Production, have embraced digital media to connect with their fanbase. Their journey started with sharing content on social media platforms and evolved into launching Oilers+, a streaming service offering exclusive behind-the-scenes access and live shows. Recognizing the need for a more efficient solution for live content, the team switched to LiveU, following the example of other NHL teams. This decision not only streamlined their workflow but also led to a significant increase in revenue, with Oilers+ subscriptions surpassing 20,000 in the second year, generating over $1 million.

However, the Oilers faced challenges in expanding their live coverage, particularly during special events like the NHL Heritage Classic. Held at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, the 2023 Heritage Classic presented logistical hurdles due to its offsite location and the desire to capture content from various areas of the stadium. To overcome these challenges, the team adopted a Remote Production workflow using LiveU technology. They deployed an LU800 field unit and LU300S field encoder, enabling them to transmit live video from multiple locations back to their production control room at Roger’s Place.

During the Heritage Classic and other events, cameras were strategically placed at press conferences, family-skate sessions, and various spots throughout the stadium. This setup allowed the Oilers to roam freely and capture compelling content, enhancing the fan experience. At the production control room, editors and switchers coordinated the live broadcast, ensuring seamless coverage of the game and related activities. By leveraging LiveU for both OTT and social media content creation, the Oilers have successfully elevated their live production capabilities and strengthened their connection with fans throughout the NHL season.
