My villain rankings. Generally, the more charismatic or scarier you are as a villain, the more I like you. 😅

Masters definitely helped bumped up several of these, like RR Giovanni (him causing trouble for the other villainous teams and being such a threat that all the other villains joined in the battle to help bring him down was cool), Lysandre (giving him some much needed development with Sycamore, plus the bonkersness of him becoming the first main villain with a known kill count), and USUM Lusamine. (Giving her more attempt-at-redemption/fixing her damaged relationships development she needed in the original games.)

(I will say Masters made me like Rose a bit more too since he doesn't do anything so extreme, mostly just causes something of a minor political dispute, so Masters Rose is more around the "enjoyable" tier. I always had a problem that the original Rose couldn't just wait a single day, like Leon had agreed to help him, and you choose to jump the gun and bring about the apocalypse anyway without your safety net being there?! Him being the antagonist always just felt so forced when he's not really all that evil to begin with.)

Popstar/Dancer au

Alhaitham was originally a ballet dancer who took part in street dance competitions to earn some extra cash to help pay for him grandmothers medical bills. He gets scouted by the Akasha record label to work as a background dancer for one of their singers, but his pretty face draws the managers attention, who decides to make him the next face of Akasha records.

Azar looks into him and finds the medical debts and uses it to pressure him into a contract. When that fails, he has a cop plant drugs on fellow dancer Nilou and offers to make it all go away if he just signs on the dotted line. He’ll even pull some strings to help with her future, isn’t that nice of him?

Alhaitham is a musician and plays guitar (he played a guitar, violin and clarinet to get a scholarship for private school before going Julliard) for one of their upcoming bands that quickly becomes internationally loved but after a falling out with Kaveh who goes on to break ties with Akasha records the band dissolves with most going their separate ways.

Azar keeps Alhaitham from leaving by threatening to use his contacts to blacklist Kaveh and destroy his career. Alhaitham doesn’t care about his own, his depts are paid, his grandmother has passed, and thanks to his time in a pop band he’ll never be accepted into any ballet company – but he does care about Kaveh. Azar originally intends to have him lip sync as a solo artist only to find out that Alhaitham actually has a decent singing voice and merely needs some coaching.

Alhaitham is considered a bad boy by the media due to his progressively harsher behaviour.

He’s technically pop, but his music tends to tread into any other genre that draws his attention.

Azar hates it but doesn’t say anything so long as it sells. Now that Kavehs career is secure, he could leave but doesn’t see any point as most of his friendships crashed and burned after he stayed with Akasha records, and he has a comfortable if toxic life now.

Nilou is aware of what Azar did and hates that she was used to manipulate Alhaitham. They aren’t close anymore - she can’t bair to watch him destroy himself - but she will always be there if he needs her. Dunyarzad was both of their patron before everything that happened, and one of the only people who knew everything. She had dreams of being a ballet dancer before it was discovered she had early onset Osteoarthritis, she would never dance again. Instead of letting this destroy her, she used her family money to support others who shared her dream. Her guilt over her inability to save Alhaitham from having his dreams stollen from him hurts deeply and doesn’t truly go away until she finally sees him happy again. Duny was the one who hinted to Nahida that there was something rotten going on in the company.

Alhaitham mentors Sethos, Cyno’s half-brother, who joins up with Akasha Records (instead of Silent Studios like Cyno) to try and get out of his brother’s shadow. Alhaitham does his best to protect the kid from Azars machinations, and once Sethos realises the danger he’s in, he helps him break from Akasha records. Sethos joins up with recently founded Rebirth Records, where he meets Nahida(the original owner of Akasha records who was ousted by Azar before she was old enough to even sit in the seat she inherited from her mother) and Wanderer.

Nahida and Wanderer both know bits and pieces of Alhaithams situation, Nahida from the records she managed to look at before Azar got rid of her (it was her investigation into AR hiring practises that caused him to target her), and wanderer from his time working at a ‘consultancy firm’ that handled issues for akasha records. So, when he asks them to help get Sethos out, they agree.

Alhaitham never considers joining RR because he knows that Kaveh has been looking into them and that the other would never join them if they were associated with him. He wants Kaveh to have the support and safety net of having a label behind him rather than just a patron like Dori.

Wanderer introduces Alhaitham to Arlecchino, the head of ‘the Hearth’ an international multibillion dollar media company at an award ceremony, mostly to piss Azar off. Neither he nor Azar actually expects anything to come from it, but Arlecchino knows a drowning man when she sees one and has a grudge against AR over them, destroying her childhood friend. Arle blames them alongside Clervie’s mother for her suicide and is more than happy to make them miserable.

She steals Alhaitham.

He leaves Akasha for the Hearths music label ‘Crimson Moon Studios’ but only starts to drag himself out of what he now realises was depression when Arlecchino has him begin working with her wife ‘Furina’ to bring Ballet and other forms of dance to the big screen with modern adaptations of well-loved stories. This is also how he and Nilou grow close again.

Things are starting to look up for him, only for a reporter to get a hold of Akasha records private data, including all the blackmail and threats he and other artists were subjected to.

Rambling about Damian in Batman #138

just lots of speculating about writing choices lol

I had a lot of peeves in the writing for Damian this issue, and it mainly stems from Zdarsky's impression of Damian still being an entitled brat, which tbf is how a large chunk of comic readers still see him as :/

Objectively, he uses this to his advantage to go from Damian going on about his place as Bruce's REAL confidant/son

to being this kid that had placed all his loyalty in Bruce only to be abandoned :(

This writing of an entitled Damian is what makes him being vulnerable in the end hit SO much harder. Not to say even if he was written in character it wouldn’t hit the same, but to those who’s only familiar with him being the “arrogant Robin” it's an impactful character moment like, OH through all that brattiness he's really just a kid huh :(

IDK kudos to Zdarsky for making him look more sympathetic I guess?? BUT THIS KIND OF CHARACTER MOMENT FOR DAMIAN HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE IN RED ROBIN #14 WHERE IT MADE MORE SENSE AT THE TIME (to be EXTRA fair, that exact issue is how I got into Damian so if this is another similar gateway for comic readers in giving Damian a chance THEN OKAY...I CAN SEE IT…)

I'm trying really hard to figure out if this is just a case of a writer using a character as a personal mouthpiece because the comfort Tim offers Damian after is such a contrast LOL Zdarsky seems to know the major events of Damian "fighting" Bruce/giving up Robin and then the latest Batman VS Robin book, which I guess equals to "all they do is fight!!" BASICALLY this just feels like a funny observation on Zdarsky's part with his limited knowledge on Damian and Bruce's relationship :/ this may also be me trying not to hate Tim for this because reading him in comics is one of the only places I can refresh my love for himsdfgh

a few more bloodstain thoughts: Brenner / Test Room 2 edition

(this is an easier one and there's no crime scene pics, fear not)

TLDR; main takeaways: 1) the blood on Brenner is screwy and 2) there's possible evidence of two unknown players entering Test Room 2 while Brenner was unconscious

I don't get Brenner's shirt blood any more than I get One's shirt blood

sir, why and how are wounds on the right side of your face bleeding onto your left collar? you don't appear to be injured there. like at all.

"maybe it dripped when his head was turned-" he hasn't bled enough for it to even run down to his chin. also, he woke up like that.

he would've had to be vertical when these drips happened. but the door knocked him right down, and he hasn't stood up yet, and the blood is already there.

"what if those aren't drips, but transfer?"

ok sure. could be. he does hug Ten's bloody face, after all. that's a great way to transfer blood.

but he hugs Ten into his right shoulder. and, we see it doesn't transfer any blood.

but those stains are sooo transferry. suspiciously like he already did hug Ten on his left side when the blood was fresher. blood tracks down his face and dripped onto his chest would line up decently with the Brenner shirt blood.

no matter how you explain it, the events that put that blood on Brenner's shirt are missing.

and something about them both having blood on their left collar is. idk. I mean One's is spatter and Brenner's is either passive or transfer so they def happened differently but still. I'm itchy

whose blood is on the EEG machine?

obviously, somebody fell and hit the sharp metal corner of this EEG machine.

but we saw Brenner get hit straight on by the door. his face wounds should just be from the door. he didn't spin around and hit his face on this thing too.

arrow pointing to the corner that winds up with blood on it. just to understand its position in the room.

it's possible the door knocked Brenner back and the cart spun a little and he hit his head on that corner of that thing. but the back of his head isn't bleeding. his hair is white enough that we'd see it easily.

could be Ten's blood I guess, although he wasn't very directly in the blast path. I suppose the blood puddle under the EEG net is a vote for that - OOPS no, wait, we get a very good look at Ten's head and it's not bloody, nor is the back of his gown.

can that EEG tell us anything else?

the paper feeds out continuously, in fact it's still on and feeding out a flat line reading when Brenner wakes up.

we know it flatlines when you take the thing off your head.

I'll bet some smart person could take the rate at which that paper comes out and approximate how much paper is coiled up on the floor and do the monster math about how much time has elapsed. not me tho

I'd like to know another means of measuring how much time has elapsed. because according to the RR clock, 45 minutes pass between Brenner taking Ten for lessons and Brenner coming into the RR to say "what have you done". but that clock doesn't always tell the truth. so idk.

Test Room 2 and the cat room

there is that cage in the background.

and that is the same EEG as El's in the cat scene. like the exact same one, you can tell by these dings in the paint:

I mean, It's Not. the hallways outside these two rooms aren't remotely the same, and the whole s1 and s4 labs are wholly different. but I mean like, in a timelines way...? is there anything here?

Test Room 2 doorway blood stain

in pondering james' creature attack theory I was wondering whether I could blame the same impact that blew the door in for leaving that blood stain. in other words, could a creature have physically busted that door with a swipe of a bloody hand.

I'm gonna say no, separate event, because

the door looks bent in the middle (looks at the sparks fly off that center hinge), not so low to the ground. if force at the bottom blew the door off it wouldn't have flown in top-first when it hit Brenner

if the blood goes as far in as the stop moulding, it would have touched the door too, had the door been closed when that happened. I don't see any blood on the door

so this blood got transferred after the door was off.

I wanna know who or what was bouncing from wall to wall all down these halls sooooo bloody but not bloody enough to leave blood trails on the floor.

say you're mortally wounded and dragging yourself aaaggh down the hallway, leaning against the wall because you can't stand upright, and you pass across an open doorway - wouldn't you tend to kinda fall into it?

maybe no one slid across it. maybe it fits better with someone getting dragged into it, kinda like this:

of course then we're missing other evidence that should go along with that idea though (you'd think there might be bloody hand streaks on the floor; Ten's and Brenner's hands aren't bloody) (can I blame this on El's bloody hands?)

this other doorway-oriented bloodstain also looks like someone with bloody hands being dragged towards the doorway/into the room, but once again the dead occupant's hands are clean:

we know SOMEBODY entered Test Room 2 and killed Ten while Brenner was knocked out. but the killer wouldn't be the bloody hands person, because the bloody hands person was dragged in there against their will. the killer would enter freely, voluntarily.

so if those are hand-grab-smears on those doorways, that gives us TWO unknown entities entering those rooms.

why are there no footprints?

boy they really wanted me to see what it looks like for a demodog to bust down a metal door. and granted the prison door is probably a lot heavier than the lab door, but it took him a few tries and the door didn't seem to dent.

anyway going to get that gif to compare to the Test Room 2 door caused me to notice this demodog leaving its bloody footprints on the floor. Russian demogorgon also has very bloody hands and face after killing.

we can conclude from the massacre stains that at least one person, somewhere, is VERY injured and catastrophically bleeding. if I blame this on a creature, that means said creature is also very bloody. which made me realize I don't see any creature tracks in the lab.

this is not anti-creature-theory though, because there are other creatures besides demodogs, and because whatever dragged Billy didn't leave tracks, and because I also don't see bloody shoeprints even though we know there were many people present.

like, especially this splatter in the RR for which the easiest explanation is that somebody stomped in it. where did that person's next step land?

I plan to have the first chapter[???? Episode???? Chaptisode???] Out In 6 months but do NOT see that as a definitive release date because MAN have i been out of it lately, and this is just a funny little comic that I wanted to work on and see if I could improve on some parts of RR. Getting rid of all the yuck of total drama while still keeping that "style" in check if that makes sense? Also, I plan to have the website where you can read the comic up in the next two weeks, with info of the characters and places.

runs their operations down the main arterial railroad of the commonwealth (bedford station, greygarden, oberland, all the way into boston), which is where they got the name

The railroad they call home is the Boston & Maine which goes all the way up to portland, maine (connections with acadia? B&M connects to the Maine central with connections to bar harbor via bangor)

This RR would be created explicitly to oppose the institute's actions on the surface and by extension, to protect people

This RR still sees synths as people tho, and works on “rehabilitation,” which is a nice way of saying implanting false memories, it's much faster and easier than doing therapy at them

This is a heavy point of contention with both the nat born (to steal a term from star wars lmao) and synth born humans within the RR

Ditto the fate of gen 1&2

Deacon has a much much heavier role in this au, seeing as the focus is no longer on running synths and more on intelligence, he probably has an even wider spy net than in canon

in this canon, the institute only creates gen 3s for the purposes of above ground

Gen 1s and 2s are used as manual labor inside the institute

synths in this don't "replace" people that storyline kinda doesn't make any sense re: Art random encounter

in this synths are created and placed in a way that they can assimilate into communities and report back

Ya hear different things over the net but allegedly George RR Martin will be more hands on for season 2 so if that is the deal then hopefully things will be allowed to breathe a little. GoT suffered in part due to a multitude of things but from also trying to adapt an unfinished story whereas HotD at least has the benefit of retelling a finished one.

a lot of the leaks about s2 have been, um. interesting. i guess we'll see what we get when we get it but i'm seeing the continuation of a lot of issues from the first season which is dampening some of my enjoyment for it.

however, grrm being a major part of the writing team now does give me a little hope. hotd definitely benefits from being a completed story, however it feels like they're not utilizing the aspect of it being an unreliable narrator story due to the multiple perspectives very well because they're taking the easiest shortcuts in regards to things like the velaryon boy's legitimacy or rhaenys' hair because it seems like they think the audience won't get it otherwise.

Later… as a child in her care. In any case, he was her responsibility; Jason. And that, somehow, was a worse burden to bear than it was with Damian.

Of course, it didn't help her newfound horror that it seemed like something terrible had happened every time Talia wasn't around. A failed "test", a punishment without her knowledge and permission, some glimpse of his wounded mind… and much more. It seemed like she couldn't leave Jason alone even for a day. Although.. that was the problem, wasn't it? Jason, as a rule, was not alone. As far as Talia knew, it was because of others that all the incidents arose — no fault of Jason at all.

In any case, nothing — and no one —could have prepared her for the day when Jason died. When Jason died and she only found out about it a couple of hours later.

Her first thoughts were a special kind of mess, when she was only able to move, but not to think.

Looking back, Talia could admit that she handled the situation much less gracefully than she should have. However, the incident forced her to admit to herself that Jason had become dear to her. Much more than planned. The insignificant life of that fool who was too careless and decided that an ugly fight with a teenager who could not answer for himself... the fool that attacked Jason with a sword, who won dishonorably and meanly— who thought that all those training sessions (where they - ordinary trainees - attacked him in droves) meant killing "dead bird" was a success and lead to a reward - when the opposite was directly said to all of them… that fool's miserable life wasn't worth the mercy Talia had shown him. And she gave this mercy only because she was too distracted by the sudden (and, oh God, so familiar) sound of the boy's breathing. She twitched her bloody fingers uselessly, and then rushed to him.

For the first time since fate had brought him to the abode of evil, to the net that she had selfishly set, Talia did not think about Bruce looking at Jason. The boy clung to her, shuddering, but he did it cautiously, timidly, and she could not stop herself as she stretched out her hand in response, gripped his shoulder and pulled him closer, tighter, almost hugging. She couldn't stop herself from kissing the top of his head, running fingers through his hair, feeling the edges of the scars with her fingertips.

What am I doing, Talia thought suddenly. Why is he here.

And, if today's terrible day had shown something, Talia would never be ready to agree to it without a fight. Without a lost already battle.

And therefore, the Demon's Daughter decided, muttering into the hair of her ward everything's alright's and you'll be okay's in her own language, I will keep it a secret.

Jason was gradually relaxing. He was strong, a fighter from the start, but the whole misfortune took a lot of energy from him; he fell asleep, feeling safe with Talia. And her heart sank. She wasn't sure she deserved that trust. She could only hope that she wouldn't lose it.
