Freeing Palestine is India's fight
I've seen lots of posts about how Western countries and their populations should be concerned for stopping the genocide in Palestine but Indians are involved in this as well.
India has a HUGE Islamophobia problem, from the day India became what it is, this country exists the way it does through conflict regarding religious majorities and it is a problem we must acknowledge.
Collective punishment has often been carried out indiscriminately against Muslims in India- Muslim people's houses in Madhya Pradesh have been demolished without warning. This has also happened in Uttar Pradesh and in 2023, Haryana(300 businesses and homes). These were all normal innocent civilians who had proper legal paperwork showing their purchase and ownership of their home and land, but the police did not care. In many of these instances the police stood by and were involved in demolition and all of these were under BJP-majority and ruled areas. The recent Ram Mandir was built on the demolished land of Babri Masjid(it was built in the 14th century before India as it was even a THING, its destruction & demolition on the claim that it was Ram's birth place is unfair). Hate crimes against Muslims run amok and there are multiple cases of violence against Muslims in India.
PM Modi of the BJP party has been consistent in maintaining positive relations with Benjamin Netanyahu and the occupying force of Israel. A majority of the military equipment for India comes from Israel, and India has constantly been neutral in UN council meetings when decisions regarding Israel are brought up. A spyware called Pegasus, developed by the occupying force of Israel was used to surveil politicians, journalists, activists etc severely breaching right to privacy and threatening freedom of speech.
Worse; India has been using the Israeli strategy of colonizing Palestine with Kashmir. Jammu & Kashmir is a union territory which basically means they are allowed to function independently on most fronts but India has been seeking to integrate J&K into itself and has been extremely hostile to its Muslim citizens and are currently intensifying their occupation efforts. There have been consistent internet and communication blackouts since 2018 and it is STILL ongoing.
India invited Israeli officials to Kashmir to open 'Centers of Excellence' which are supposedly for agricultural innovation but everyone in J&K are concerned and see it as India taking an opportunity to intensify its occupation with Israeli help.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, several Kashmiris told Middle East Eye the Israeli agriculture hubs would deepen India's occupation in the region and accelerate its settler-colonial project. "Earlier, we would draw the parallels between Kashmir and Palestine or India's intimate alliance with Israel. But now they are bringing Israel to the Valley in the form of these institutions - which will be "agro-oriented" in name - but we all know that Israel will physically help India in Kashmir to turn it into a proper Palestine," a Kashmiri academic based in Istanbul told Middle East Eye.
In 2016 Coalition of Civil Society said there are more than 8000 'disappearances' of people in J&K. There are mass graves with over 2000 bodies being found with these unlawful activities being attributed to the Indian Security Forces. That's just scratching the surface of decades of violence and human rights violations enacted by India.
BJP is not shy about its ties to the RSS and promotes Hindutva(I've seen people citing the literal meaning of the word as evidence that it is harmless but the word is a label given to an embraced by extreme right-wing groups who are open about their Islamaphobia. Meaning of the word becomes pointless when actions speak otherwise).
India is an occupying force on J&K, it's suppressing Muslims, demonizing them and further marginalizing them in the name of 'Hinduism'. It buys from Israel and endorses them. As Indians, it is key that we do whatever we can to stop the genocide because we are unwittingly being used to fuel this and are being radicalized to hate on our neighbors, the people we share our land and history with.
Even outside of the ways in which the current government is shamelessly supporting Israel, India's history is rife with colonization. The British had occupied us, forced us into fighting each other, into prioritizing meaningless differences to suppress each other. We were once starved by occupying forces, violated, killed. Our land is also covered in blood shed by colonization.
What are we doing if we don't speak up? If we don't stop this? Do not follow the propaganda conflating extreme right-wing ideologies with the identity of being Indian. Don't buy into the idea that India is "for Hindus", we are so ridiculously diverse, there are 100s of languages and religions in this country.
Free Jammu & Kashmir, free Palestine, stop Islamophobia.
#palestine#free gaza#desiblr#desi tumblr#gaza strip#free palestine#islamphobia#I have no special patriotism for my country but if that's the identity i'm forced into i'm going to stand up for Palestine#I am aware that Kashmiri Hindus have also experienced multiple hate crimes and were forced out and it had been classified as ethnic cleansi#but the fact that happened should only fuel you more to STOP the occupation & violence against muslims in J&K#absolutely nothing justifies genocide- nothing

We have been debating tirelessly on different ways to abolish caste and other social evils which permeate the society that we have today. Raising voices against oppression, forming political parties and contesting in elections and also trying to force the government to form and implement policies which will give the Bahujans their fundamental rights. We have come a long way through decades of struggle in gaining rights, but the present political scenario of the country is not looking hopeful to the Bahujan aspirations for breaking away the shackles of caste.
With the diluting of labour laws and enabling state sanctioned exploitation of Bahujan labour, implementation of NEP which further marginalize the Bahujan children and extinguish their hopes of upward social and economic mobility, a proposed EIA which will rob the Bahujans and Adivasis of their land and livelihood, implementation of CAA and NRC to deprive the status of citizenship, privatization of key public utilities and destroying the already weakened public healthcare system, the government is openly showing its motives as a corporate stooge which dances to the whims of Adani, Ambani and other Brahmin Bania masters.
Armed with a grass roots organization like RSS and corporate funded media outlets, they have complete dominance in creating narratives they want the public to believe and they also have a well-oiled IT cell to spread fake news against any dissenters who dare to raise voice against them. Even though there are voices in the society which are raising against these government policies, there is a lack of grass root organization and common vision is sometimes lacking. This doesn’t mean that all the opposing forces against the fascist regime, which is murdering our democracy, should be centralized under one political entity. Instead it is time to think about exactly the opposite, the expansion of the idea of democracy from merely being a political tool used while casting vote once every 5 years to inculcating an idea of democracy in all aspects of life — political, social and economical and decentralization of all aspects of society.
Anarchism is a political philosophy which rejects all coercive and oppressive forms of hierarchy, be it caste, class, color, creed, clan, gender, age, orientation or country. It says that every system of power hierarchy should be scrutinized and made to justify its existence, and any system which fails to justify itself and is trampling the freedom of the individual will have to be abolished. The idea of questioning oppressive power structures is inherent to the idea of anarchism. It prohibits a system where even a party or a few leaders decide on how the society will function. Instead it focuses on decentralizing power to local bodies and communities so that decisions are made at the lowest level possible, thus eliminating the concentration of power into a few hands. It also shares the view that people who are most impacted by policies and decisions are the ones who are most capable of making them.
Historically, humans have developed to live in societies which didn’t have the kind of huge inequalities as it exists today. There is an intrinsic instinct to cooperate and help each other which is visible when a disaster strikes or the self-organization that appears out of nowhere in organic movements against oppression. Solidarity and mutual aid are the foundations of an anarchist society. The “right to well-being” of all human beings, meaning “the possibility of living like human beings, and of bringing up children to be members of a society better than ours” (Kropotkin, 1892). Two of the examples of societies which function close to anarchist principles today are Zapatistas of Mexico (Nacional, 2002) and Rojava in Syria (Democracy, 2018). Extreme corruption, colonization and environmental exploitation forced the indigenous people of Mexico to form an autonomous region where people directly form communities and decide the policies. Similarly, the people of Rojava, battered by the civil war, have formed an autonomous region with direct democratic ambitions based on an anarchist and libertarian socialist ideology promoting decentralization, gender equality, environmental sustainability and pluralistic tolerance for religious, cultural and political diversity based on democratic confederalism. One of the principles of direct democracy is that there are no elected representatives for a fixed term, any member who is elected will just be a spokesperson of the community and can be withdrawn immediately if he goes against the decision taken by discussion and deliberations. The means of production will be owned by workers and run by worker councils. Conflict resolution mechanism and alternative systems of judiciary exists within the community run by the members. There won’t be police or other systems which grant power to one person or group to take away the life and liberty of an individual, rather power will be distributed equally or rotationally which is controlled by the community. During the current times of BLM protests all over the world, it is clear that the police institution is just a tool employed by the ruling and propertied class to control the lower class and there is mass class for defunding the police and transferring the resources to community welfare projects.
We need to look at how these communities organize themselves in the face of an oppressive regime and come up with innovative ways to decentralize and create institutions which we are brainwashed to assume will work only if they are centralized. Decentralized community gardens provide food for the community which is maintained by them. Systems of education, community defense, criminal justice systems, industry and healthcare can be decentralized and we need to focus our efforts in building such grassroot level communities which function along the principles solidarity and mutual aid. We already have systems of mutual aid in our communities, all we need to do is to transfer these tendencies to all the systems we live by.
The Indian social mentality of following a leader or waiting for a savior needs to change. Any system which can consolidate power in the hands of the few can change into authoritarianism. Even if the leaders are benevolent and have the will to serve the people, there are systems of coercion which exist in our society, where economic, political and social power resides in the hands of the few, that they will bind the leaders from doing their duty to the Bahujans. The leaders and parties we look up to keep failing and disappointing us time and again. Now, action needs to be taken directly at grass root level by the Bahujans by creating communities and networks of solidarity and mutual aid and practicing decision making and direct participatory democracy. The culture of outsourcing decision making to politicians or other ruling class needs to stop. This has to start at all sectors of industry, agriculture and services too, and also within family.
We can’t turn to the state for protection anymore as it the state apparatus which is being systematically abused by the ruling castes to exploit Bahujan labour to create their wealth. Along with the efforts to educate Bahujans through social media and other means to sensitize them of their exploitation, effort needs to be focused at the bottom most level to inculcate the habit of participatory democracy at individual, family and community levels, respecting the liberty of the individual. The fight for annihilation of caste cannot be won, unless all unjust power structures in the society cease to exist and power is decentralized and distributed to the people directly, where individuals themselves can organize and make decisions about their life without being coerced or exploited to create wealth for others.

The site is up to date again! This is, for people who don't know, a very very cool archive that a friend of mine created last year, for everything we could find of Daniel Kitson's radio work. And I mean everything. It is very impressive, the lengths my friend has gone to to track down some of these recordings. He has also put large amounts of time into created edited versions of everything on there, that have the songs taken out, if you just want to hear the chat. And he's created Spotify playlists, if you just want to hear the songs. And track lists.
I've helped. I created the edited versions and track lists of a bunch of those older files. I have also spent many, many hours going deep into Google search results, and scrolling through page after page of message board threads from like 2007, in order to find exact dates and other meta data for most of these radio episodes.
Last week, we got an extremely exciting donation of four new episodes. Four doesn't sound like a lot, but it is in this context, as Daniel Kitson did a six-night Triple R Graveyard run from MICF in 2006, and that donation brings our collection from 1/6 to 5/6. From barely there to nearly complete! Also, the Triple R Graveyard episodes are four hours long (they ran from 2-6 AM), so four new episodes is quite a lot of hours.
For anyone who doesn't know, Daniel Kitson used to occasionally get on a community radio station - either Resonance FM in London or Triple R in Melbourne - and talk in between playing music off his own CDs/iPod/Spotify account, in the middle of the night. He did that once in a while from 2005 until 2016. From 2018 until present - the most recent episode being today - he has done the same thing every once in a while, but only in London, and only in the mornings, because he turned forty and stopped wanting to stay up all night, which is fair enough (I mean, there was Trifle in 2020 that was sort of at night, sort of, don't worry about it).
Daniel Kitson doesn't record/archive/podcast these radio shows, but ever since he first started them, fans have been recording them and passing around the files. My friend, who made that website, has been personally recording all the shows since 2018, and putting them onto an internet archive and an RSS feed. For everything before that, the recordings have come into his collection from others who recorded and/or collected them at the time, and he has shared his collection with me, and in 2023 I listened to every single one of those radio files in full, and I spent hours and hours looking up old message boards to find dates and other information about the ones that weren't already organized, and I've finally got a clear picture of it now. I then did the track lists and edits on those old files. And my friend made an entire website and maintains it beautifully because he is so impressively good at this.
There's also a "misc." tab in the online archive, which is for times when Kitson has appeared on other people's shows (most of those are old - as in, before he left his agent in 2005, and when he could still be forced to do publicity - and/or Australian, and he doesn't seem to hate public appearances in Australia as much as in England), and like I said, my friend has done an amazing amount of work to put all those together. An amazing amount of research, digging up all the information that's out there and then tracking down recordings. It's incredible project, overall. And as I said recently, my friend is working on expanding this archive to include information and promo material for all of Kitson's stand-up and story shows - though it was a surprise when we recently learned that Kitson himself is also making a Kitson archive. The un-archive-able man is going to have two archives.
Anyway. I've spent all weekend listening to the four new four-hour episodes, all recorded from 2 AM-6 AM during the Melbourne Comedy Festival in spring 2006. Kitson used to have guests for his Triple R episodes, and these four new ones included the Australian comedians Andrew McClelland and Courtney Hocking, and the Irish/Australian tightrope-walking-along-the-line-between-doing-an-ironic-parody-of-an-obnxious-overly-publicly-affectionate-couple-and-actually-being-an-obnoxious-overly-publicly-affectionate-couple duo David and Claudia O'Doherty (no relation, importantly). All four episode were so much fun.
It was Chocolate Milk Gang-era Kitson through and through. Self-important, in ways that I'm glad he's walked back since, but I still enjoy listening to the more forthright version of him. So much underlying/sometimes overlying competitiveness with his guests about knowledge of indie music, and who has the most of it. Frequent, carefree references to his frequent, carefree trips to record shops with large hauls, and not a moment of concern that maybe these will all end up in a box taking up too much space one day. By the way, my friend's archive is also fully up to date with the six episodes that have aired so far of Kitson's 2025 Resonance FM breakfast show run, in which he takes out CDs that were stuck in boxes in his house, and plays them before deciding whether to take them to a charity shop. There will be more episodes of this, but they've been postponed until March 2025.
Anyway. The new episodes are fun. The old episodes are fun. Spending all weekend switching between listening to Kitson on the radio in 2006, and Kitson on the radio in 2025, was very, very weird. Many things have changed. A few things have not. He still has a disproportionate hatred for songs that fade out. His music taste was so much better before he got into LCD Soundsystem. So much better.
Everyone should check out this archive. Click on a random episode and have a listen. Or look through the track lists and put on something from an era where his music taste mostly aligned with yours (his music taste has changed over the years, in my highly subjective and oversimplifying opinion, from music that was quite good to music that is much less good - but your mileage may vary, some people like LCD Soundsystem, I guess). For people who enjoyed this season of Taskmaster, there's an episode in the Triple R tab with Andy Zaltzman as a guest, from MICF 2007, and it's unmitigated delight. I'm also partial to the O'Doherty episodes, of course, as a CMG fan, but I'm pretty sure those episodes are enormous fun even if you don't share my personal CMG obsession.

I have been looking at other blogging platforms for a few days now with the intention of putting all my OC stuff in there instead of having to constantly switch between main blogs on here, because I still want to have all my stuff here.
I doubt I'll leave, mostly bc all my mutuals are here but also largely because this is the one site where I see stuff like fundraisers or different news about world affairs, all in the same place and with sources provided (most of the time, and if not I can just Google). If I ever do decide to leave I will probably look into setting up an RSS feed, but that doesn't work very well for issues I don't already know about.
I don't use Discord much because I'm kinda bad at like, consistently DMing people. And also it's very confusing to me since I used it the most during 2018 and then almost never again and a lot of stuff has changed since then?
Still, my Discord username is "corpsegrindinman" in case anyone wants 2 add me. OK goodnight
#diary#I think Twitter might... MIGHT be an OK source to know what's happening on a surface level because of the trending tags thing#but it is an absolute cesspool. I have one; but logging in always ended up just making me upset; so I stopped using it.#Everything going on tonight is actually fucking sickening. Like I wish I hadn't spent all these years on here#so I wouldn't have such a big part of my online experience concentrated on this site#an absolute manchild runs this site. It's crazy how immature he is and how willing he is to throw transfems under the bus#maybe I'm an idiot for thinking we MIGHT get an actual serious response for once. I wish I didn't have to say that.

SANT MAT IS A PATH OF LOVE AND AFFECTION. The soul is a form of love. The Master is also love. Even God Almighty is love and the Path to get connected to God Almighty is also love.

There is only one love that we have. Now, love is not multidirectional — it is only one love that we have. However, now we are faced with spirituality and our love and devotion for our Master and love for this world as well.
Today, our love is outwardly focused and we have our love and affection towards all outward worldly matters and our relationships. Now, this is not something that is only from this life. We have been living crores of lives like this and we have started loving all the outward things — for so many crores of lives — and that has become a habit. To now direct that love at the feet of the Master is difficult and that will happen slowly.
When we do our Simran, and we do more and more Simran, then that Simran causes the change of direction of that love to go within. And, as we do more and more Simran and we go within and we manifest the Form of the Master, there we develop our true love and affection and faith in the Master. Then we have completely moved our love to His feet from the outside world.
Therefore, we should make it a habit to do Simran. When we are cooking our food or even doing any other activity, we should try to do as much Simran as possible because, by doing Simran, we will start getting focused within.
When we manifest the Form of the Master within and we see the Radiant Form within then, automatically, our love and affection for the Master and full faith in the Master develops. And then, whatever we have heard in the Banis of the Saints, we understand their true meaning. And that love manifests within.

2024

Overdose deaths during pregnancy spiked over the past few years, study says https://www.statnews.com/2023/11/22/opioid-crisis-hits-maternal-health-pregnancy-overdoses-rise/?utm_campaign=rss Overdose deaths among pregnant or postpartum people skyrocketed between 2018 and 2021, according to new research published Wednesday in JAMA Psychiatry. The study, conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institutes of Health, compared the incidence of maternal deaths for overdose of commonly misused psychotropic drugs (such as heroin and other opioids, including synthetic ones, or cocaine) among girls and women aged 10 to 44. It's time for Beginnings, the podcast where writer and performer Andy Beckerman talks to the comedians, writers, filmmakers and musicians he admires about their earliest creative experiences and the numerous ways in which a creative life can unfold.
On today's episode, I talk to musician Heather Trost. Originally from Albuquerque, NM, Heather really started taking music seriously in college, often touring whenever she wasn't in class. In the early 2000s, she met her now husband, Neutral Milk Hotel drummer Jeremy Barnes and joined his fledgling project A Hawk and A Hacksaw, making it a duo. Since that time, they have released six albums, the latest of which is Forest Bathing in 2018. As a solo musician, Heather has released four albums, and her latest Desert Flowers, was released late last year on Ba Da Bing Records, and it's great!

Daniel Ricciardo finishes 13th on his return to Formula One at the Hungarian Grand Prix...while Oscar Piastri crosses the line fifth as young Australian narrowly misses on first podium of his career
Daniel Ricciardo finishes 13th on his return to Formula One at the Hungarian Grand Prix...while Oscar Piastri crosses the line fifth as young Australian narrowly misses on first podium of his career By Dan Cancian For Daily Mail Australia Updated: 10:48 EDT, 23 July 2023 Daniel Ricciardo finished 13th at the Hungarian Grand Prix on his return to Formula One, while Oscar Piastri narrowly missed out on his first podium by finishing In his first start since being axed by McLaren at the end of last season, Ricciardo started 13th, four spots ahead of teammate Yuki Tsunoda. The Australian fell to 18th at the first corner after Zhou Guanyu hit Tsunoda, causing a collision that forced the Alpine duo of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon to retire. Ricciardo recovered well and despite running last for the opening spell of the race, he managed to climb back into midfield. It is a positive start for the eight-time Grand Prix winner, who joined AlphaTauri for the remainder of the season on loan from Red Bull earlier this month after the team parted ways with rookie driver Nyck De Vries. Ricciardo's return has been welcomed by many in the paddock, with reigning world champion and former teammate Verstappen admitting he never wanted the Australian to leave Red Bull in 2018. Daniel Ricciardo finished 13th on his return to Formula One with AlphaTauri on Sunday The Australian returned to the sport earlier this month after signing a short-term contract with AlphaTauri to replace Nyck De Vries 'I never actually wanted him to leave,' he said. 'It's great to have Daniel back on the grid and within the family. 'We know that we get on very well, and if Daniel does well where he is now, then of course you have the opportunity to go back up [to Red Bull], right? 'It's all open, to be honest. 'I spoke already quite a bit with Daniel last week. I could see he was very excited, also after driving our car [in a tyre test at Silverstone].' Piastri, meanwhile, looked well poised to claim a maiden podium finish but had to settle for fifth place instead. The 21-year-old, who replaced Ricciardo at McLaren this season, started fourth and ran in second in the early stages of the race behind race winner Max Verstappen, who secured his seventh consecutive win. Oscar Piastri finished fifth, narrowly missing out on a first career podium But the Australian was overtaken by teammate Lando Norris after his first step, with the Briton making the most of McLaren's decision to pit him before Piastri. Norris eventually held on for second place, securing back-to-back podiums for the first time in his career after finishing second at Silverstone a fortnight ago. Sergio Perez finished third with Lewis Hamilton a disappointing fourth after starting from pole position. Verstappen's win means Red Bull have now won the last 12 races in a row, a new Formula One record. On July 14, 2024, I participated in a 51-hour marathon live stream on Netlabel Day Radio. It was my first time hosting a live radio show since my last broadcast for Bondfire Radio back in late December of 2023, so this was a big deal to me. Both Sides Of The Surface took over the stream for two hours representing for Creative Commons licensed music from various netlabels such as blocSonic, Mahorka, Silent Flow, Upitup, and Southern City's Lab. The majority of the selections were found on Bandcamp and the Free Music Archive along with a pair of cuts from Jamendo. Many of these artists have been played on the podcast before, but at least half of this playlist contains songs that are brand new to the show. (There are a total of 31 tracks featured and I spent the entire month of March sharing these cuts on my Mastodon page, posting one track per day and doubling up to catch up on any days that I missed.)
I do have to point out that "Noumenon" by Lovespirals was under a CC license at the time of the live stream, but was changed to "All rights reserved" shortly thereafter, so techically it's the only song on the playlist that's not a Creative Commons tune. I can't be too upset about that, though: it's Lovespirals, a duo whose music I've been championing for almost as long as this podcast has existed. Everything else bears a CC license and ranges from hip-hop to soul to spoken word to electronic to experimental sound collages. There are also a few live cuts as well, including moments from Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab performing at WFMU's Monty Hall and legendary hip-hop duo EPMD running through their hits as part of the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival. Other notable artists in the mix include the late, great Nikki Giovanni, Devin Morrison, Rah Digga, and Negativland, plus guest appearances from Oddisee and Del The Funky Homosapien.
There's a lot of variety offered here and I hope that there's something offered in the mix that you will enjoy. Thank you so much for listening.
Other key info: Macedonia on Mixcloud The content of this show has been released under a CC-BY-SA license. All works within this show retain their original releases. See the show notes at bsots.com for more information.

Two Ear-Worthy Podcasting Podcasts: In And Around Podcasting & The School Of Podcasting

Think of the podcasting industry like an assembly line. Every day, podcasts roll off the line. The line runs in three shifts -- 24/7. Some models are interview shows, others are informational, one-topic shows, still others deal in comedy or true crime. The most expensive models, not necessarily the best and most reliable, are the network-supported models where celebrities entice listeners into the audio and video showroom.
Despite the recent focus on these elitist (not elite) podcast models, the foundation of the industry is in independent podcasts. Here, consumer choice and customer service are paramount. Want a show about the paranormal? We have a few hundred you can test drive. Want a politics show where hate, grievance, and intolerance are thankfully absent? We have shows that deal in fairness, factual purity, a sense of compromise, and tolerance.
The continued vibrancy of independent podcasts translates into a healthy marketplace of podcasting shows that want to help these indie podcasts. These shows offer advice, guidance and step-by-step instructions on everything from sound design to content creation, and marketing to monetization.
Today, we will discuss two of those shows that aim to help podcasters achieve their goals. Keep in mind that not every podcaster wants to be a Joe Rogan (thank goodness) or Ashley Flowers (one's enough). Many podcasters have more modest and localized goals. Take, for instance, the Perrysburg Podcast by Kim Newlove. The show is intended for new and current residents of the town, which has about a population of about 27,000. This is not exactly a ratings phenomenon, but it accomplishes its goal.
First up is The School of Podcasting, which is a podcast that helps you discover the power of podcasting. Founder / host Dave Jackson says: "It helps you avoid the common mistakes that podcasters make. From planning, producing, and promoting your podcast along with all the tools and techniques. If you're looking to start a podcast or a veteran podcaster, you can catch some great insights with this free podcast."

Jackson has been involved in podcasting since 2005, and I always enjoy the OGs of the industry because they have that panoramic view of where the industry came from and where it is heading.
Jackson was involved before RSS feeds when listening to podcasts often involved downloading audio files directly from a website or specialized audio players.
Jackson explains: "Unlike many other 'geeks' who know how to podcast, I've been a technical trainer for over 20 years. This means not only do I understand the technology, but I can explain it in a plain English “geek-speak free” environment. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Akron (Specializing in technical education). While there are other podcast consultants, I believe my experience sets me apart with regard to helping you make sense of the entire podcasting process. I not only help with the 'how,' but I also help explain the why, and make sure you avoid the common podcasting pitfalls. I have won awards at Fortune 500 companies for my customer service. In a nutshell, I care."
Listening to episodes of his show, it's obvious that Jackson cares. He can speak in technical terms, but his goal seems to be clarity and mutual understanding for his listeners.
Jackson's credentials are impressive, although I think his most significant achievement is that he cares about his listeners and students. He is the author of the book Profit From Your Podcast. In 2018, he was inducted into the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame.
So what does Jackson talk about in his episodes. In a few words, anything related to podcasts. His episodes contain most eccentric titles, from Strike Up Your Podcast: Lessons from Duck Pin Bowling to Don't Get Bitten: Identifying Predatory Practices in Podcasting.
One of my favorite recent episodes was his March 2nd show: Podcasting Gone Wrong: The Ultimate Pet Peeves List! My prayers were answered on this episode. I could just relax and listen to podcasters unspool their pet peeves that also drive me crazy. Ads that start and end in mid-sentence. Too much chitchat. Volume discrepancies between host and guest. You get the idea. It's a show that can cleanse any podcaster or podcast listener of those annoying practices that are part of podcasting.
As a host, Jackson clearly has the benefit of years of experience. His pacing is seamless; his voice is deep and declarative; his tone is friendly and approachable.
Check out The School of Podcasting. It is simply one of the best shows in the industry for aspirational podcasters, independent podcasters still willing to learn, and experienced podcasters who understand that leaning is a process, not a destination. When you read his testimonials on the website, you realize that Dave Jackson is the mentor for many successful podcasters. He is like the "Mr. Miyagi" of podcasting.

In & Around Podcasting is a podcast brought to you by Mark Asquith and Danny Brown, focusing on podcasting as an industry with a spotlight on independent podcasters.
The show's strength is its two hosts, Mark Asquith and Danny Brown
Known as "That British Podcast Guy", Mark is one of the United Kingdom's original podcasting experts. He is Managing Director & co-founder of podcast hosting, analytics & monetization platform Captivate.fm which was acquired by Global in 2021 and is known worldwide as an insightful, thought-provoking and actionable podcast industry keynote speaker. Mark's stated focus is on helping people to achieve their own podcasting goals and on improving the podcasting industry for the long-term.
In 2013, Mark started a hobby blog called Two Shots to the Head to fuel his creativity which led to his first podcast, a DC Comics podcast of the same name.
In 2018, Mark unveiled Captivate.fm, Productivity and Podcast Success Academy to the industry, along with bringing these under the group company, Rebel Base Media. Captivate.fm is a podcast hosting and management platform that offers tools for creating, growing, and monetizing podcasts, including features like unlimited podcast hosting, advanced analytics, and podcast website creation
Danny Brown has hosted and co-hosted (and appeared on) so many podcasts, if you called him a serial podcaster, you wouldn't be wrong! He's been in the podcasting space for over 10 years, and has the scars to prove it.
He's the Head of Podcaster Support and Experience at Captivate.fm, the podcast hosting, distribution, analytics, and monetization platform for the serious indie podcaster. He lives in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario, Canada with his wife and two kids, where he spends winters in front of a cozy fire and summers by the lake. Well, when he finds time away from podcasting, of course...
I know Danny and he is truly one of the great gentlemen of podcasting. His podcast, One Minute Podcast Tips, probably offers more valuable guidance for independent podcasters in 60 seconds than other similar shows that have a runtime 30 to 60 times longer. In short, Danny knows his stuff. Danny also has a popular and unique podcast called 5 Random Questions, which just completed its second season. On the show, Danny uses a random question generator to put his guests on the spot. I was on his show and not being able to prepare and answering questions like it's an improv show, causes panic, perspiration, and prattling. Yet, Danny makes sure his guests are comfortable and supported.
As co-hosts, Mark and Danny make an excellent team, having each other's back like Liverpool's outstanding defense in the Premier League. In almost every episode I listen to, I find myself saying, "That's a great point." Then I say: "Why didn't I think of that?"
Episode topics include one of my favorite shows in January 2025 about video podcasting. Their June show --Apple, Spotify, YouTube: Are Platforms Making It Harder to Start and Grow a Podcast? -- references a March Podnews Report Card that asks podcasters to complete a scorecard on podcast platforms, and where they're doing well, and where they're doing not so well.
Across the board, all main platforms - Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and Amazon Music - had a lower score than last year when it came to helping listeners discover and follow a podcast. On the show, special guest co-host Genevieve Hassan helps to break down this report, and what the bigger podcast platforms need to do to when it comes to helping podcasters start and grow a podcast.
In April 2024, the episode -- Do Small Podcast Apps Really Have a Future? -- Danny, Sam Sethi (host/producer of Podnews Weekly Review), and Garry Aylott discuss the current state of podcasting apps and the recent closures of several apps. They explore the challenges faced by podcasting apps in terms of monetization and discoverability, and question whether this means some podcast apps have a future.
As the industry consolidates and grows more vertical, opportunities for independent podcasters narrow and indie shows morph into "long-shot bets" for success, or even sustainability.
Here's a quote from Podnews: "In & Around Podcasting has been designed to respect and live alongside those shows and to be an accessible, inclusive podcast for every single podcaster; a show that allows everyone with an interest in the medium to have a fair, open and transparent view on the podcasting industry and how it affects them - this is your place to be heard." Podnews then spills some essential truths about podcasting: "The podcasting industry belongs to us all, not just the elite, and it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in the industry, your voice is valuable."
These two shows -- The School of Podcasting andIn & Around Podcasting complement each other like fish and chips or chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce. The School of Podcasting can help podcasters build their show and get it running at optimum efficiency. In & Around Podcasting can help podcasters understand what route to follow and where the road leads.
