2. Do you read/reread your own fics?

Sometimes, yeah. I love completely far out AUs - set them in the past, way in the future, in a different country, give everyone mutant powers, plop them into a different film/book/game universe and see what happens. And because those kind of fics aren't commonly written, I often have to do it myself ;)

But not all of them. I think I've deleted a lot of older, super cringey stuff that I never really need to see the light of day again.

5. What's a fic idea you've had that you will never write?

Oh crikey. I've not ever had an idea for a fic that I haven't at least started, but I've got a HECK of a lot of WIPs that I know will likely just remain in my docs folder unfinished forever. The three I've made a start on but that I absolutely *know* will never get finished are a Caryl fic set in America and during the time of the Napoleonic War, in a crossover universe with Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. There's a bit in the book where the English army are under attack, and Jonathan Strange moves the entire Belgian town they're in to America for a while, to evade the enemy. And in my fic, he comes across Carol, sees potential, and leaves her a few spells to be getting on with. I've done maybe 2 chapters, and I often re-read those and think 'goddamn this is good, can't someone else write it?"

Same with the caryl Mad Max AU I started years ago.

And the Lost/TWD crossover I made a start on maybe 5 years ago, just because I really wanted to see Daryl and Sawyer interacting. I've written the opening scene, but aside from that, I have zero idea where to go with it

17. What's something you've learned about while doing research for a fic?

What parts usually break down on Cherokee Jeeps, and how much they tend to cost to be replaced. Exciting stuff!

26. Is there something you've written that you would never want your family to see?

EVERYTHING.

But especially some of the really dirty smut. Anyone in the Everlark fandom may remember the S2SL challenge a few years ago. (I say a few years ago. I think it might have been about a decade ago now. Christ.) Smut to Save Lives - loads of us wrote for this exclusive collection that you had to pay to access, and the money raised went to a really good charity (for the life of me I can't remember what it was though, so if anyone can remember, please do remind me!) I wrote at least 4 pretty filthy pieces for that, that my parents would be utterly shocked to find out came from me.

On Fandom

In light of recent kerfuffles, I decided to share this. Communication is helpful for fandom discussions. That’s why I’m offering up my perspective.

 @little-lynx, your artwork is beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoy seeing it on my dash. Your post sharing how and why you joined the fandom is fascinating, and I’m grateful you trusted us with it. I hope you continue sharing and drawing for stories that inspire you, and that you’re able to find more stories and authors that do. That’s not to say you’re not doing enough. Whatever you want to share is awesome. I only say that because there’s so much Everlark out there that is wonderful. I hope you’re able to find more that you enjoy. If you ever read something of mine and are inspired to create, I will be thrilled. If not, I will continue to appreciate what you contribute to the fandom. Welcome, and I hope you enjoy being part of The Hunger Games community on tumblr (and AO3 and FFN, if you find works there).

 @shesasurvivor, I hear you. I know what it feels like to be overlooked despite being part of a fandom for a long time. I understand the frustration of seeing others celebrated and not being one of those. You’ve been here longer than I have, and you’re one of the few who takes stands that might not be expressed by many but are shared by more than you know. You are an important part of the fandom, and I’m glad you’re still here. I hear you. I see you. You are amazing.

 @katnissdoesnotfollowback, you also have very valid points. I know what it feels like to put everything you have into a fandom and it not being enough for some people. I know what it feels like to be overlooked and how it feels to be celebrated. The former sucks, and the latter is wonderful. You are an important part of the fandom, and I appreicate what you can share and wish you well when you’re not able to be here with us.

 It’s always tricky to recommend blogs and lists because feelings invariably get hurt—no matter how inclusive they are. I don’t envy those of you who have tried or are attempting to make those. You’re braver than I am.

 That said, it is demoralizing to be left off lists repeatedly. It’s equally frustrating to produce works and not feel like the images and/or stories are getting any attention. This is true for new(er) people who are trying to join a fandom (@mandelion82 and @endlessnightlock come to mind), former authors who’ve returned (@awhiskeyriver), and those who were around long ago and stayed for the long haul (I am one of those). Each of us wants to be part of the community. It sucks to feel left out (whether intentional or not). You are all amazing, and I see/hear you.

 Yesterday, @eiramrelyat posted fanart she created for one of my stories as a surprise, and I was over the moon. It was a total surprise, and her work is stunningly gorgeous. I am beyond thankful for the gift, and I hope she understands how much it means to me. I’ve been fortunate in the past to receive artwork from @ombradellaluna and @the-tesseract-wrinkling-time and story banners from @xerxia31, @papofglencoe, @maddenmarvels, @burlesonspride, and @ronordmann, and from those who are no longer active on tumblr (loving-mellark, @akai-echo, and @myusernamehere). I am beyond thankful for your gifts.

 I’ve been left off lists before, and it’s painful. Although I’m never angry at being left out, I’m often more discouraged and befuddled. I’m always fascinated to see who others view as “essential” while leaving off others. As someone who has been part of the Everlark fandom since 2013, it seems that my name should be recognizable by now. Since I’m often omitted, maybe I’m wrong. It’s not the fault of newcomers for not knowing who I am when my name doesn’t appear on lists of active blogs. How could the new people find me? The frustration comes from being a long-time contributor to the fandom and still not being deemed essential. @lovely-tothe-bone and @mrspeetamellark have both heard my frustration and reached out to me about it. Thank you both for doing so.

I have published 107 Everlark stories on AO3 and more on tumblr.

I help run @seasonsofeverlark and @talesofpanem.

I helped create the Everlark Holiday Bingo challenge that’s currently running. It would be amazing if those who are writing holiday stories would consider participating. So far, only six people from the Everlark fandom have contributed. One bingo fill is awesome if that’s all you have time to contribute. If you want to do more, please do.

I have written for @nanowrimo seven times.

I have participated in the following charity anthologies/auctions: @s2sl (twice), @fandom4lls (twice), @mores2sl (three years with five stories), @loveinpanem-blog’s A Candle for the Caribbean, @fandomforoz, @fandomtrumpshate (two years with five auctions), and @what2finish (one year with two auctions).

I have participated in the following challenges: nine out of 12 rounds of @promptsinpanem with 21 stories posted, every round of @everlarkficexchange with 16 stories posted and four more forthcoming, three years of @thgseasonofhope (this year’s not yet posted), 17 stories for @talesofpanem, eight stories for @seasonsofeverlark (with one forthcoming), three stories for @everlarkbirthdaydrabbles, 19 stores for @d12drabbles, one story for @loveinpanem-blog’s Valentine’s challenge, two multi-chaptered stories for @everlarkchristmasgifts, one multi-chaptered story for @everlarkvalentinesgifts, three stories for @everlarkianarchives, two stories for @fyeah-everlark’s Secret Santa exchange, three stories for @the-everlark-games, two rounds of the @everlark-your-own-adventure challenge, one for @winterinpanem, one for (the now defunct) wmashgchallenge, one for the Everlark drabble challenge, and one for the Peeta Mellark masturbation series.

Besides those things, I’ve also collaborated with other writers and artists (thanks, @deinde-prandium, @xerxia31, and @thegirlfromoverthepond), and I’ve published more stories that weren’t part of any official challenge. I’ve done these things because I enjoy writing and think it’s important to support the fandom and worthy charitable causes. I don’t participate because I’m looking for praise (although it’s always nice to hear from those who enjoy what I’ve created). My point is that if participating in all those things doesn’t make me an active, essential part of the Everlark fandom or make my name on tumblr or AO3 recognizable, then I simply don’t know what else to do.

 As a historian, I think it’s important to know the history of the fandom, so it’s understandable and commendable to read the “classics” of Everlark. There’s a reason Dickens and Chaucer and the Bronte sisters and Edgar Allen Poe are famous. They’ve created stories that have stood the test of time. There are also new gems like The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and The Hating Game. Newer writers are vital to the success of a fandom, as well. I’ve been reading Everlark for seven years, and I still have countless seminal works I’ve not yet read. The same goes for newer writers. I’m trying, but it can be overwhelming. I’m doing the best I can while working as a full-time professor during a global pandemic, writing my own stories, being an active member of my church, being a good aunt to my nephews, supporting my friends and family (many of whom have health problems), and joining another fandom. I’m doing the best I can.

 This is longer than most people will want to read, I’m sure, but please know you are not alone in feeling what you do. So many of us feel left out or ignored. So many of us are celebrated. So many of us mean the world to one or more readers/viewers.  We all have our reasons for being here, and we are all part of this community. I hope I’ve contributed in at least a tiny way in making you feel welcome while you’re here.

An amazing fanfic that made me swoon. Peeta was so amazingly sweet that jIust wanted to hug him and never let go. I pity Mr Mellark and anyone who had to witness Katniss and Peeta's interactions lol. Poor Katniss, she felt so bad and put her walls up without knowing it after knowing of Peeta's escapades. So Glad that they found there way to each other and lived happily with an amazing family!

Enemy: I'm Katniss Everdeen-Snow. I'm eighteen years old, the president's granddaughter, and the youngest Gamemaker that Panem has ever known. I've been taken prisoner by Peeta Mellark and the rebels of District 13. But I'm dangerous and trained to kill, and I'm not going down without a good, long, hard fight. Canon Divergence.

Amazing what-if fanfic! Katniss was so sweet to help Peeta by acting all authoritative and threatening despite her age. Snow really did a number on her and Peeta, I fuckin hate him. Well what do you know, Kat Everlark (as if Peeta won't know where the last name came from) XD So glad he found his way to her and nothing can keep them apart!

Poet: Peeta is a famous erotic poet who sends readers into a tailspin with his verse. When he moves to Katniss's university hometown, she finds herself at his front door, hoping to get a critique of her story. One-shot. Modern AU. Written for the s2sl charity.

Were you like, trying to make people feel weirdly aroused by this??!! I loved this smutty, hot fic. How epic of Peeta to say all those vulgar words in front of a mortified Katniss haha. The smut was oh shit! and their future relationship, no doubt, won't ever be boring XD

I liked this, poor Peeta, having to live with the images of Finnick fucking Katniss in two different ways. I loved Katniss' rebellious spirit and the fact she was doing most of it for the community was so heroic. One thing iI don't like was that it took them so damn long to get together and the fact Peeta kept thinking of Madge and rubbing her in Katniss' face even after knowing how she feels for him. That was shitty and pissed me off. Happy to see that they finally ended up together and Katniss loved him enough to start speaking again!

The idea of Peeta as a bad boy and player was, idk different. His personality has always been so charming and sweet that it surprised me. So cool to see their quick connection to each other. I loved the fact that everlark had to hide their relationship, makes it hawt!! Very informative and well written and I am so damn happy to see that they finally found each other and didnt have to hide anymore. Peeta, please work on your proposal skills XDD

Amazingly amazing, this one over here! Thank god Peeta, in a way, saved her from having to marry and bear kids of Seneca fuckin Crane. he doesn't deserve her!! Dancing around their feelings is such a Katniss and Peeta thing to do its not even funny. Hot as fuck sex and then they had to fall in love, damn! (damn for them, I was celebrating ;) ) They really had to go through so much but it doesn't matter much, because it brought them to each other and made them stronger. I loved their kid, so talented like his parents. Pretty cool conception there, kid!!

This is my favourite fanifc written by you!! and one of my all-time favourites in fantasy genre. Poor them, they both suffered so much after losing each other. they were so young but the fuckin Faes took him and hurt them both. How utterly clueless in love were they that they never entertained the possibility of being each other's Moonlight and Sunset. The hunger games type of challenge was so amazingly done and I believe no one could've written a fantasy version of the games better! "I remember you." awww such a tender and amazing moment. Poor Peeta, he did the right thing letting her go but it rewarded him in the long run. Mr Everdeen, so glad he remembered (wIas feeling sus when he disappeared without trace) such a sweet moment to see the Everdeens finally reunited. I loved the ending and it was such a wonderful journey :D Can someone bring me Finnick so I can kill him? Hated him in this. And would've loved some everlark babies but hey! it was perfect!!!

“You won’t be able to see your family ever again,” Haymitch said, “as far as they’ll know, you’ll be dead.” 

Peeta’s eyes hardened under his mentor’s gaze. “That’s OK,” he answered, “They’ll miss me at first, but they don’t really need me. If anything, they’ll probably be relieved. They won't have to worry about me anymore.”

Post 10: Cold Hands, Warm Heart

Dear readers, you're going to feel a little pressure...

Here's another full story, written for charity (S2SL 2014), in what I'll call the "profession series". Doctor!Peeta and Plumber/Electrician!Katniss meet up after both have had a rather rough time at love.

I remember when I first read the review HG Romance left on this story. I might have cried. It felt like an Oscar.

This story is M. It's irreverent. It's like "let's take the Pussy!Champ!Peeta interpretation to the next level. Oh, and let's throw in a very different Johanna-elevator scene while we're at it!" My mindset on the charity stories is to go for an angle no one else will write. Sometimes that really approach really works. Not very many authors were doing funny!Everlark back in the day, so I was able to explore that as a differentiator.

What I liked:

I continue to refine my interpretation of their characters in an a/u setting

It's funny!

It's a tight story at about 9K words

Delly is great in this!

What I didn't like:

I had someone point out that it's not realistic because there's a scene in the beginning where he's alone with her during an exam. I probably could have written it with a nurse in the room. I was hoping the reader could suspend their disbelief, but I suppose it was bothersome enough to pull some readers out of the story rather than be funny.

Masterlist : S2SL 2014 Collection

This masterlist contains links to stories donated for the 2014 “Stories to Save Lives” Collection.  We have posted links to as many of the submissions as we could find, however please note that some were never published publicly, and others have since been deleted by the authors.  

In 2014 and 2015, the S2SL fundraisers were run by @streetlightlove1, in memory of Caroline Cronk, a 5 year old girl who died of DIPG; a devastating inoperable incurable pediatric brain tumor that occurs in children ages 5-9 and led to the foundation of Hope For Caroline, Inc., a nonprofit foundation to support other DIPG families and to provide hope by funding research for a cure.

In 2016 and 2017, the fundraising continued with MoreS2SL, organised by @sohypothetically.  A new round will be soon be running for 2018, so please check out their tumblr @mores2sl for details of how you can get involved!

Hello. We haven’t received any such emails, nor have we been pinged on our web site nor here on tumblr at either our public site or at Sohypothetically. 

I’m happy to discuss this with you. 

I don’t see an account on our site (ms2sl.com) for you former pen name. That would mean that you hadn’t uploaded anything to our site. Also, “Rented” as a search in our database returns no results. In other words, Ms2sl has no recollection of you either as an author or a donor. We have no affiliation.

Collections prior to 2016 were compiled by the awesome and amazing @streetlightlove1. I am showing in this masterpost below that at least one of your items was in the 2015 collection. That set of collections was removed from public view over 3 years ago and it’s contents, presumably retired. That original S2sl has no affiliation with us, so I cannot presume to tell you how to contact Streetlightlove1 or check on the contents.

I think most people have posted theirs publicly so if you search for s2sl and mores2sl on AO3 maybe you’ll have luck finding them? I don’t know Anon. Scroll through @mores2sl‘s archive and you might find a few of them...Might be sending you on a wild goose chase and wish I could be more help.
