People are complaining about Effie being older than Haymitch but I really could not care less about it. She's older than him and she's Capitol so she probably looks younger due to having a bunch of fancy Capitol beauty regimes. Haymitch is younger than her but he's had a rough life and doesn't look after himself so he looks older than he is. And they've known each other for 25 years and spent every one of those years sending one boy and one girl off to die. And they have depressed middle-aged hookups about it.

The way Buttercup always hissed at Katniss until she gave him entrails. But she tolerated him because Prim loved him. Then in the end of Mockingjay he helped her healing.

Then the Geese always hissed at Haymitch until he gave them cracked corn. But he tolerated them because Lenore loved them. Then in the end of Mockingjay they helped his healing.

The parallels will never end :(

What if I said Katniss and Haymitch’s narration styles are so different because Katniss wrote her story as it happened/wrote it on her own and Haymitch recited the story to Katniss and Peeta and they kept asking questions prompting him to give more detail

I have the headcanon that Katniss’ kids keep bunnies as pets and one day, one of them dies from old age. That evening Katniss serves him up for dinner (food is food) and all hell breaks loose. The kids scream and cry, Peeta desperately tries to calm them down and Haymitch falls off his chair from laughing so hard while Katniss grumbles about how she doesn’t understand what they are on about.

After reading the Epilogue this headcanon is just cemented into my brain. I love her, but Katniss-I-tried-to-drown-my-sisters-cat-Everdeen would be fun to watch as a mother.

The Capitol's imposition of gender roles on the tributes is demonstrated by their treatment of Katniss' and Haymitch's scars respectively.

The crowd chants and shouts and demands to see Haymitch's scar from where he was disembowelled. Because boys are tough and so if they survive things, they're allowed to come out the other side with a gnarly scar.

But while Katniss is unconscious after her Games, the Capitol doctors, without Katniss' consent, put her through a process that removes every single one of her scars. Because nobody wants scars on the Capitol's pretty new girl victor.

And at the end of Mockingjay, as ugly and painful as Katniss' burn scars are, at least there's nobody to wipe them off her and pretend it didn't happen.
