Hi love. Rob Stringer is “a big deal” because he was head of Columbia when 1D were together and then head of Sony (parent company of Columbia) when Harry went solo (and Louis got stuck with Syco). So he’s had his fingers all over whatever contracts were signed by all of the guys, and most likely had plenty of decision making power over the closeting of HL and the blocking of Louis’ solo career.

BBC Radio and BBC TV are both divisions of the British Broadcasting Company. Louis having that disastrous interview on the Morning Show wasn’t the beginning of his being blocked from BBC radio. I think his blacklisting and image damage extends as far back as XFactor and Simon Cowell. There are many people involved and I don’t know if you can really point a finger at Simon or Rob Stringer and say that’s this is the key person responsible for it all. But, him appearing on that show and that article being written is just part of a very complex pattern of abuse he’s been subject to.

As for radio being important… I really don’t know why it seems to make a difference. I do think being nominated for The Brits or The Grammys doesn’t have without radio airplay and even if we know The Grammys are bullshit, it’s still great advertising and it’s still seen as prestigious in that you’re “accepted” by the music industry insiders.

But I think when people complain about him being blacklisted, they mean that he’s almost entirely absent from everything—radio for sure, but also radio concert events like Jingle Bell Ball/Summertime Ball, British talk shows like Graham Norton etc., British award shows (even the Rolling Stone UK award show was tainted by his performance being removed and his interview being publicized using Harry’s name).

I don’t buy into a lot of the stuff some solo fans talk about in terms of Louis’ career blockades, but for an artist who has such an ardent fanbase to be shut out of so many ways of advancing his career, you can’t help but assume there’s something underhanded happening.

“I know you took it,” you said, crossing your arms on your breasts. The heels of your black leather boots echoed in the apartment when you turned to face him.

“Took your breath away by that heated kiss, sexy, certainly. Otherwise I did not take anything.” Jungkook scoffed, crossing his arms defensively. The tension in the room was palpable as you square your shoulders, refusing to back down. You blinked twice at his cheesiness. The tip of your tongue moved to rest on the bottom of your upper teeth, your smile spreading on your face. The chuckle came out of you so naturally, laughing at his ridiculously ridiculous behaviour.

“Don’t play dumb, I know it was all you. You malicious sabotaging petty boy—” You retorted, articulation perfectly clear while the words laced with underlying frustration and anger.

He sighed, weariness settling over him. “You think I stole your portfolio to sabotage your career? You’re giving me too much credit, love.” Here he comes.

“I said nothing about my portfolio, Jungkook.” You said playing with his name on your tongue. A tense silence hung in the air as he considered your words, clicking his tongue, clearly annoyed and you were just getting started.

“I managed to figure that out. A drink?—” He offered, shrugging her statements of like snow in summer whilst he moved to the small bar that was a part of his spacious living room.

“I don’t want a drink, Jungkook. I want it back now,” you replied, your tone cutting through the casual offer. The anger in your gaze intensified, fuelled by the frustration of dealing with his nonchalant attitude.

“Let’s talk, baby.” He gestured towards the living room, as if trying to usher you into a more comfortable setting for the impending confrontation. He knew this was just a little shower, the real storm was still far away, giving him space to prepare.

As you moved, you couldn't help but notice the contrast between your demeanour and his. While your arms were still crossed defensively, his posture exuded a calm confidence that irked you further.

You took a seat on the edge of the sofa, not willing to fully settle into the illusion of camaraderie. Jungkook, on the other hand, sprawled onto a nearby chair, the picture of nonchalance.

“I need that portfolio to get a job because a certain someone has to be bitchy and sabotage my whole career because his big ass ego cannot take rejection. Give it to me,” you fired off, your words sharp and accusatory. He leaned back in the chair, smirking.

“Those are very bold words, Y/N. I would prefer to think of it as a wake-up call for you, not sabotage.” Your incredulous glare only intensified.

“Are you fucking serious Jungkook? A wake up call? You’ve just jeopardised everything I’ve worked for, and you’re calling this a wake up call?”

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his gaze locked onto yours.

“I can get you a better job.”

You scoffed. The audacity of his response fuelled the simmering anger within you.

“You can’t get a shit, so give it back to me, and I’ll be on my way,” you requested.

Jungkook’s smirk remained, an infuriating mix of arrogance and nonchalance.

“No,” he said, smiling. Your hands clenched into fists at your sides, the frustration reaching a boiling point. He leaned back, seemingly unperturbed by your rising anger.

“What do you mean no?!” you shot back, your voice sharp.

“You were about to make a decision that would have consequences beyond your imagination. I had to intervene.”

“What the fuck are you on again?” Jungkook’s gaze remained fixed on you, the intensity of his stare almost unnerving while your voice went an octave higher. Your frustration reached its peak, and you stood up, pacing the room as you ranted. You were breathing heavily, trying to calm yourself.

You needed that portfolio, it was a collection of years of a work and your best work to be specific. The lousy new version won’t get you a job at no high-profile fashion brand and you cannot afford to go lower than your last position.

“Alright—” You said defeated, turning yourself to face him again, you put off your black leather jacket and fixed your low ponytail, slumping back to his sofa. Spreading your arms on the backrest and cross your legs.

Jungkook took a moment to breathe in the sight before him; he was throbbing for you.

“—what do you want?” you asked. He leaned back further into the chair, putting his masculine tattooed arms to rest on the back of his head, showing his abs from under the white tank top he is wearing.

“What do I want?” he mused, as if contemplating the question but he already knew.

“Spill it out.” You barked and he chuckled at your eagerness. He got up from his seat and dangerously slowly walked towards you.

When he reached you, both of his arms pressed to the leather of the sofa inches from you, caging your body. Your breath stammered as you looked at him towering over you, the golden chain around his neck hanging.

“Firstly, I want you to be my good girl, apologise for being a brat the other day and admit there is an “us”. Secondly—” he whispered seductively, closing the approximate distance while doing so. He was right in your face, looking over at your lips evidently he was controlling himself to not attack them. He invaded your personal space. The sudden shift in atmosphere left you breathless, and you could feel the heat radiating between you.

You squared your shoulders, refusing to succumb to the intoxicating energy he exuded. “I won’t apologise for any shit, now secondly?” You said while trying to hold your horses. You hate to admit your pussy was clenching and leaking under his gaze. He was attractive, and no one could deny that.

Not to glaze Niall, but his career is due to hard work, which is why I think Harry respects him as a friend. Niall had a very weak voice just like Louis, but unlike Louis, he didn't have a psycho fanbase to rely on because he got shipped with Harry. Niall learned how to play the guitar, and didn't burn bridges with the 1D songwriters, and didn't attack journalists, and built his own fanbase without riding Harry's coattails (even if he cosplayed his looks a bit)

Louis on the other hand only has a career because of that tinhat conspiracy. He didn't bother improving any of his weaknesses after 1D, in fact his singing and memory have gotten worse, and his attitude is still entitled and smug.

Rads' entire conspiracy of "sabotage" falls apart when Harry is out there publicly supporting Niall. If Sony really wanted Harry to be the only breakout solo star, they would have "sabotaged" Niall too (they would have also forbidden Zayn from leaving the band) Louis is failing because he's just an unserious lazy slob who wants to be seen as a successful musician without putting in any of the work.

He doesn’t get real promo 🤷‍♀️ It’s so frustrating and it’s been a topic of discussion since the begging of his solo career, you can read more about it on my BLACKLISTED and LOUIS X RADIO tags. It’s difficult to fully grasp the extent of the sabotage all of these years, but the fact is that Louis has almost exclusively relied on promo strategies around fan engagement rather than aiming for mainstream or at least a bigger audience.

Recently, the director marketing from BMG spoke up about Louis’ challenges with promotion opportunities, especially on radio playing his songs, because “he had to compete against other 3 one direction members” which was also what I was referring to on that post.

You might not what to post this or answer it and I get it but after listening to that End of the Day alternate version, it just reminded me of how much the people who made the decisions behind 1D sucked. I love Harry, I do, but when I heard MITAM, I was disappointed. Not because of the quality of the songs - some MITAM songs are some of my favourites from 1D - but because of how one-sided that album is. I wanted 1D, not Harry featuring Liam, Niall and Louis, and I even naively hoped Louis would have more of a chance without Zayn there too. Louis and Niall deserved better than what they got, and that goes the most for Louis. And now with this, all I can think about is Louis singing these parts, hoping he might be featured in the song more and then his sadness and deflation over finding out it wasn’t going to be released. No wonder he struggles with confidence so much and how much that gets in his head when he is performing when you think about what happened to him while he was in 1D. The label behind 1D clearly never really cared about nurturing the talents of 4 of the boys, they only cared about making Harry the frontman and preparing for his solo career. A more balanced album with solos and prominent vocals from all four members would have been even better than what we got and I will never not think they did Louis wrong. It’s why, despite the disappointments in Louis’ solo career and how it has been mismanaged and essentially sabotaged, I still am so thankful for it. I saw Louis in concert and he was so good on stage, and I enjoyed every moment of it. I’ve never enjoyed a concert as much as I did Louis’. Louis’ voice has so much emotion in it, he has that emotion and inflection that just completely elevates music and I can never have enough of it

I totally agree! It's ironic to look back because MITAM was my favorite of One Direction's albums when it was released. I still think the songwriting quality and the overall sound was amazing on that album, but how little Louis got to sing (and the other boys besides Harry, but Louis most of all) has dimmed that album in my mind and I really can't listen to it anymore without just feeling sad.

With time to reflect, I started to recognize more and more how imbalanced and unfair that album was, especially because once all the boys went solo, it was so abundantly clear that Harry was placed on a different playing field than the other boys and was given advantages that none of the others got. I think most One Direction fans or fans that support multiple 1D members recognize that these days and it's basically just Harries who refuse to recognize it or who claim that Harry was advantaged based only on talent.

Louis deserved better, Liam and Niall deserved better, and MITAM deserved better. All of their voices and their songwriting abilities had improved so much by the time that album was released. The power that album could have had if all of the boys had gotten time to shine......it was such a missed opportunity and I'll never stop resenting 1DHQ for their decisions and unequal treatment.

The decisions he has made make him get two solo succesful albums, two world tours, 4 afhf festivals, his own clothing line, booking like 18 music festivals in different countries this year. - I’m sorry but no, Louis made so many terrible decisions and he lost a lot of fans because of that and the fact that he still can tour/the fact that his album was n.1 etc it’s all on the fans, not on Louis, and definitely not on his team. And no one’s asking for him to stop singing 1D songs but 1-2 songs are enough, not three songs in the 10 songs setlist when he has two solo albums+FITF was specifically promoted as an album for the live shows.

Hi anon. There is a lot of topics here so I did write a long response sorry in advanced.

Yes Louis had achieve many great things thanks to the support of the fans but this is not giving just because of his existance, he has getting support because he puts work behind it, he makes good albums, beautiful songs, his performance is amazing, his band is fantastic, he plans a great show to perfom in his tour with different elements between a good setlist, screen graphics, lights, pyro etc. And this is possible because of his team's work as well.

He makes livestreams, his own festival, his clothing line, he does so many interviews to promote his album, he does album signings and see sometimes fans after a show, he takes photos with fans even if he is tired. That is a lot of work and is important to remember it.

Fans wouldn't go to his shows or buy his music if he didn't have something special that they want to hear or see. The artist show who he is and shares his craft and then the fans support it.

About his terrible decisions and the self sabotage, that is very vague so I don't know how to respond to that with more details. Yes he has lost fans, but he still haves a lot of fans support otherwise he couldn't keep making this amazing things he has done over the years. And he has achieve those things thanks to his hard work and his team's work, they book the festivals, they plan the tour, etc.

His team work really hard and ultimately Louis is the boss, the team work for him, if you criticize his team your are criticizing Louis, they don't work without Louis' decision making. He knows what he wants, but he is dealing with a music industry that promotes pop music and artists with big labels, is a difficult market to navigate with when he is trying to go for a different genre of music and dealing with the lack of support on radio.

But I think this festival era is such a good move for him, he is showing his music to new audiences.

About the 3 songs of 1D I think fans are making a big deal out of this, he still sing a lot of important songs of his own and is a festival he needs to share popular songs as well as new songs so new people get interested. Is a smart move to sing 1D songs, Night Changes is the most stream song of 1D, at the time I check it has on spotify 1, 563,210,935 & Drag me down has 1,131,128,488, I don't know how many WDBHG but I imagine a lot.

I just think sometimes the fact that Louis is so down to earth and sweet make fans think they have the right to say how he has to navigate his career and cross the line trying to reach his team & to delivered their unsolicited opinions like they did with Krystle or Matt Vines, which I think they are really awful comments and I don't even want to see the posts to read more of that.

What makes me sad is to think Louis could see those comments instead of the ones that are celebrating this huge achievement.

Is fine if you don't agree with his setlist but is his second festival of so many, I think we should focus on celebrating how happy he was performing even though he felt insecure at the beginning. Louis after this festival era will be even more confident and will bring more new fans along the way which is a wonderful thing.

I think anyone can disagree with Louis at some point, but is his life and his journey, we will never learn the reasons behind most of his decisions and I think to follow Louis and his journey we have to accept that there will be moments like that and that is ok. Just enjoy the things that you like and take distance from the things that you don't enjoy or disagree with, if you don't like that he performs the 1D songs just don't hear it and move on. He will do what he wants to do regardless of fans' opinions, is his show and this is how he wants his setlist to be.

He share so many of him with us, I'm just thankful we still have the festivals to look for, after the festivals we will have to wait for a while to see him perform again.

Hi Marte. I really love your blog, it is so educational for me and it makes me hopeful for the future of the industry. But my pessimism gets the better of me and I don't enjoy things as much as I want to because I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I just want to ask for some advice on how to be more cautiously optimistic. You seem confident that HL will come out but I really dread them never coming out. That would make me really sad considering everything they have been through and we will miss out on so much. I so badly want to see them interact and I want to see them being true to themselves, away from all the gaslighting and lies and it worries me that it may never happen. I want to see Louis be more of his flamboyant self like recently and I have no doubt that if he came out his career would be boosted so much. I want to see Larry as a power couple. The industry seems so conservative still and while people are much more accepting of lgbtq+ people now it seems like the industry doesn't want to let their big artists out and I'm worried that these big artists have been closeted so long that they have no fight left in them. They've been abused and manipulated and controlled and beaten down and made to think that they can't be successful because of their sexuality. So maybe even if they can come out they might not because of the abuse they're suffered, or maybe there are life long contracts or they're misled by management who feed them lies. The fact that celebrities are still going into lavender marriages now scares the hell out of me when if they were to come out they would be supported. How to be optimistic when the industry still has far to go?

I don't know how to teach being optimistic. I've been around while they pushed their closet, tried to sabotage their closets, hinted their sexuality and relationship, and that's not something you do when you plan on being closeted a long time. You know what Harry answered when asked if he could wish for anything, that money can buy?

He still isn't free, and i don't think his wish has changed. His need for self-expression and self-realisation is still the same. Louis is still out there singing about larry and "him". You don’t do that, and knock on the closet door from inside, if you want to stay closeted. You do it because it's all you're allowed to do.

I think the clue to staying postive and enjoy the current times while we wait is to celebrate the small wins. It's not all doom and gloom all the time. Harry just wore a very loud shirt and we just got a glimpse of 2011!Louis at Monza. It was wonderful to see. They are closeted until they aren’t, and things will get bad and then better again. Things move in cycles, and once you recognise the pattern, you'll be able to distance yourself emotionally better when you know what's next. Things are moving forward, they're no further back in the closet. Things have been worse, and i know they've worked hard to be able to get some leeway. Louis has no beard and i don't see that happening either. Harry is single too. That's pretty much unpresedented. Single H and L being seen in public at the same event? Mindblowing. So take a look at where we use to be and where we are now. Things are moving forward, things are getting better (at least fandom deals with it better) and one day they'll be out and free. That day is coming. They want it to come. We just got to be patient.

Everyone knows that the real problem isn’t having three band members’ music being played on the radio at the same time. He’s been sabotaged his whole career and we’ve always known he was blacklisted from radio. It’s sad that BMG isn’t able to change that.

Louis is in such a unique position with this huge fanbase yet they can hardly capitalize on it when it comes to putting him onto mainstream radio playlists.

I just feel really outnumbered when it comes to solo harries. Sure there are some solo louies who are ridiculous and think that Harry is sabotaging louis' career but these are few and far between. Most louies here and on twitter are larries. Most harries are not and they are vicious about Louis: 'Harry wouldn't date a chainsmoker, Harry likes peace and quiet and wouldn't date someone who's loud, Harry is pescatarian and wouldn't date a meat eater' ... it just goes on and on. They seem repulsed by the whole idea of Larry being together and not because they're homophobic but because they hate Louis. Yeah. Harry’s crowd is pretty vicious at times. Funny that the folks who follow someone who’s so loud about positivity, just scream toxicity at everyone else.

And you’re correct, it is a very wide demographic with a hell of a lot of people in it. Different opinions are thrown around nonstop. I just don’t understand the energy you need to put in to be so hateful?

It’s easy to feel outnumbered and it can be very frustrating, but don’t let people bully you into thinking who you love is wrong. Probably half the reason Harry is off Twitter & Insta now is the chaos and absolute insane talk that goes on there in his fandom. The fact that Phil Spector could see something like this – these sparkling ladies, overflowing with charisma and beauty and talent and charm – and decide to marry their lead singer and promptly forbid her from making music any more. And treat her like this (bolding is mine, to point out a few of the most egregious details):

Ronnie and Phil Spector began having an affair soon after she was signed to his label in 1963. Early in their relationship, she was unaware that he was married. Once, Ronnie was apprehended by house detectives for prostitution at the Delmonico Hotel in New York City after leaving a room they had booked. She was allowed to call Phil, who threatened the hotel, and then they allowed her to leave. After Phil divorced his wife in 1965, he purchased a home in Beverly Hills, where he lived with Ronnie. They married at Beverly Hills City Hall on April 14, 1968. Ronnie changed her surname and became known as Ronnie Spector. Their son Donté Phillip was adopted in 1969. Two years later, Phil surprised her for Christmas with adopted twins, Louis and Gary. Ronnie alleged in her 1990 memoir that following their marriage, Phil subjected her to years of psychological torment and sabotaged her career by forbidding her to perform. She said he surrounded their house with barbed wire and guard dogs, and confiscated her shoes to prevent her from leaving; on the rare occasions he allowed her out alone, she had to drive with a life-size dummy of Phil. She stated that Phil installed a gold coffin with a glass top in the basement, promising that he would kill her and display her corpse if she ever left him. She began drinking and attending Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings to escape the house. In 1972, Ronnie fled their mansion barefoot and without any belongings, with the help of her mother. "I knew that if I didn't leave I was going to die there," she said. In their 1974 divorce settlement, Ronnie forfeited all future record earnings, alleging that Phil had threatened to have a hit man kill her. She received $25,000, a used car, and monthly alimony of $2,500 for five years. She later testified that Phil had frequently pulled a gun on her during their marriage and threatened to kill her unless she surrendered custody of their children. She tried to rebuild her career, keeping Spector's surname professionally because "I needed any way I could to get back in, I'd been kept away so long." According to her, Phil hired lawyers to prevent her singing her popular songs and denied her royalties. In 1988, the Ronettes sued Phil for $10 million in damages, rescission of the contract, the return of the masters, and recoupment of money received from the sale of Ronettes masters. It took 10 years for the case to make it to trial. After a prolonged legal battle, the court ruled that their contract gave Phil unconditional rights to the recordings but Ronnie was entitled to her share of royalties.
