so I'm rewatching the Pilot and Dean goes "in almost 2 years, I've never bothered you, never asked you for a thing." considering that Sam is in his senior year of college, that means Dean did have interactions with Sam while Sam was at Stanford.
now maybe it's just a writer oversight, but I think it's something different. at some point during Sam's sophomore year, Dean reached out and Sam cut him off entirely.
which makes Dean's "I must have stood outside your dorm for hours... because I didn't... I didn't know what... What you would say. I thought you'd tell me to... to get lost or get dead" ...really sad. because there was precedent for it.

It's thinking about samjess hours
Sam never had a home. His whole childhood he was suffocated by his family with no personal space or privacy. He'd spend almost every day with them: On hour long drives in the impala, in a small grubby one room motel, on hunts. He never had his own space, somewhere that was wholly his, no taking turns with Dean or enduring the judgemental presence of John as Sam did anything besides train to kill all things evil.
And yet when we see Sam independent from his family in his own space at Stanford... he's not alone
The fact that when Sam finally had his own space and independence he chose to invite someone else into it.... it just makes me wanna eat glass
How he loved Jess so much he wanted to share his freedom with her. He was practically disowned by his family over it. And when he finally had it, he gave part of it up for her.
The meaning behind Sam sharing his space with Jess is just so important to me

Dean asks Cas to teach him Enochian.
So Cas teaches him Enochian.
They sit together in the bunker - chairs next to each other, elbow to elbow, books spread out around them, and Dean learns the language of the Angels from his own.
Dean makes quips about Cas being his teacher, and offhandedly asks what he can possibly do to get extra credit.... Cas looks at him with complete and utter incomprehension while Dean has an internal meltdown at how that came out without meaning it to.
Dean's actually very focused when he has a goal - so he studies and he reads and he's genuinely a good student. He practices his pronunciation (which Cas has said 'is fine' but said it with the expression of someone in pain, so he knows it sucks) while he's cooking or in the shower, and Sam remarks more than once how Dean could have gone to college.
Dean still gets frustrated when he can't remember a certain word too many times, or can't wrap his head around a specific turn of phrase, but he also kind of loves it when he says something and Cas smiles with amusement at what he's said. It dawns on him that he's the one speaking strangely in Cas's language now, instead of the other way around.
The first time Dean speaks in almost fluent conversational Enochian he is so proud and pleased but Cas looks like hes going to throw up, and Dean thinks he must have got something wrong again. He doesn't know that Cas is having to physically hold himself back from immediately exiting his vessel and shattering every window in Lebanon with the force of his joy.

realizing that Sam never actually told Dean what fully happened in Mystery Spot. like Dean knows nothing of the 6 months Sam hunted the Trickster, that Sam actually had to live 10 months with Dean in Hell not 4. idk where I was going with that, just 🥺

Me: hey brain, can we think normal things tonight?
Brain: PALEONTOLOGIST!DEAN FINDS AN ANGEL THAT GOT BURIED DURING THE EXTINCTION OF THE DINOSAURS.
Me: *quietly* ...what the fuck
Brain: Dean is working on an excavation in a cave system when he uncovers this. fcking HUMAN BEING WITH *WINGS* AND *TOO MANY EYES*. PRESERVED IN ROCK IN THE SAME STRATA AS THE DINOSAURS. And ofc Dean is really freaked out and scared of this thing, but then he notices that the figure is curled forward over something, and as he looks closer he sees the skeletons of a nest of baby raptors that the "human" figure was holding tight to its chest, like it was trying to shield them from something. And he realizes that this... Thing... died protecting them.
Except the "human" figure isnt a skeleton, its preserved fully in the rock. Or perhaps...

Miracle was one of the last things that was left of Dean. Sam could hold on to him when he needed to feel closer to Dean. At some point in his life, Sam had to bury Miracle too and with him the last piece of memory of his brother. He had to lose him one more last time...
