Cupid's Last Wish Live Blogging
I am mostly here for the gender of it all. I also wanna see Jan. I've clips on tiktok and gifs on here about the show and like them well enough, so hopefully I'll like the show! Also when the trailer for this came out a week or two before it was being released on Disney+, I literally became addicted to it and watched it so many times and was quite upset it wouldn't be immediately available on Youtube and it became one of my most anticipated for 2022 BLs. Here we finally are so many months later lol
I've heard quite a bit about the flaws (people don't like the body swap but I'm mostly in it for that, hate Mix's character Win, and apparently the villain at the end is badly done) so I'm going in knowing what I want + some possible flaws, so hopefully that'll make me be able to enjoy it more than if I didn't know the flaws beforehand. Actually, I think people said they treat the female character as way too delicate and were too protective and controlling over her, so that could annoy me.
Episode 1 (July 26)
1-1
some farm boys doing some farm things
Jan hello! aka Lin
What's the timeline? Their father very recently died -> the calf is born a few days later? -> then the funeral
1-2
I think I knew that White is in this
I guess the little teasing over the ice cream should be sweeter vs not shows that Korn can make Win smile even when he's upset and take his mind off of things
bro these people rich as all hell. the daughter just inherited 15 million baht = 500k CAD. Like sure they live in a nice house and have a farm with multiple employees but dang
Bruh I do understand being like ummm why would my father give 1/4 of this family business to somebody who is not family but damn talk about yelling, being a dick, and jumping to conclusions. + it's not like he's leeching off of the farm, my guy Korn works there lol. Although I also think Korn should've told Win that he was gonna get some shares because withholding that kind of information leaves room for doubts/suspicion
damn Korn really had clothes over at Win's place
1-3
Win really is a dickhead, why'd he yelling at everyone
I don't really get the passage of time in this show so far lol. How long has it been since the father's funeral and seeing the will
bruh what does Lin mean by "Win found out about our bakery shop" like uhh it's supposed to be a secret? How? It'd be related to the farm and also the family's businesses so how would it be a secret? Also "our"? Lin and Korn planning to open a bakery shop behind Win's back?
1-4
bro Win is scary. i hate how he yells and has terrible anger issues and for some reason has power over everybody else
the instrumental coming out when Win (as Lin) successfully evades everybody and tries to hurt Korn but ends up in his arms instead lmfao
There's nothing explicitly misogynistic but the vibes in general are patriarchal and sexist lol
Episode 2 (July 26)
2-1
lol Win stubborn as hell. If a monk came in without me calling for me, identified me in my sibling's body, told me my deceased father let him know what's going on, and gave me the solution to go back to my own body, I would simply listen when he said I shouldn't travel alone because it'll bring me bad luck and just go with my ex-best friend instead
Jan acting as Win is so delightful. I like how her mannerisms and way of speaking changed from how meek they made Lin. I guess we'll continue getting more of Win slipping up and speaking the way Win/a boy does but he's in Lin's body
2-2
omg it's been a year since the funeral and the will debacle?
Korn following around Win trying to convince him to get in the car is cute
Win I know this is like your 2nd day being seen as a girl but hitch-hiking is so T.T
2-3
Usually I'd be eating this scene of men asking to be slapped/hit uppp but uh these men are fucking creeps leave Win/Lin alone!
2-4
Seeing Jan appear really does make me smile I think she's doing well as Win.
I like Korn and Win's bickering and teasing hehe
Here comes the song I liked from the trailer!
Ohh there's a post-credit scene. I remember seeing clips from this when the show was airing and was like dang how are they so buddy buddy I thought Win hated Korn.
Episode 3 (July 26)
3-1
There have been interesting transitions between seeing Win or Lin but this time being when Korn's holding their eyes open is hilarious lol
Just Friends? by Tilly Bird. idk if they actually played this in Bad Buddy but it was in a Bad Buddy playlist
Win being scared of ghosts is endearing enough for now but might get old quick. It's at least better than Porsche's being scared of ghost schtick
3-2
Mix has such sparkly eyes
Win accidentally telling on himself that he checks up on Korn's Facebook lmfao
Win is such a dickhead but so funny with the "Let him call you again outside of work hours and put me of the phone! I'll play the role of a bitchy faen and yell at him"
3-3
lmfao I was wondering when the young woman traveling alone with young man gossip/worry aspect of this was gonna come about
damn Win: "You don't want me to watch a cold cuz I'll be a burden right?" Korn: "No it's because I care. I care about Lin." rip to Win
3-4
lol I like them just driving, eating, visiting temples
Just Friends by Tilly Bird once again. The French subs have translations of the lyrics and yeah I guess the song really suits the friends to lovers storylines
lmfao this vision of them frolicking while dancing to the song?
Very bingeable show. The last 3 Taiwanese shows I watched before this took me a longass time to watch and even when I was watching multiple episodes in a row it was because I just wanted it to be over rather than because I was enjoying them a lot. Before than I watched KinnPorsche and for that I was watching 1-2 episodes spaced throughout a day, which is like midway binging but not quite; too many things happened in some of those episodes for me to want to watch multiple of them in one day.
Episode 4 (July 27)
4-1
lol this whole Win being lost + Korn searching for him is so contrived
4-2
Jan and Mix both know how to eat well. I wanna get Thai food so bad.
4-3
the period situation has started
lmfao Korn being soooo awkward about just buying some pads is irritating but I'll let it go cuz he seems fine otherwise
once again their bickering and arguing is funny and endearing
4-4
I know from the spoilers that the mom is supposed to the villain and I now agree that it probably won't make any sense because she seems like a caring, worried mom. I don't like her acting for crying scenes though
I hate that Win crying due to frustrated anger about not being listened to is me to a T. Also me when I'm frustrated over not having anything to eat
Naurr Win's "Get out" while hugging Korn back. Korn: "Are you sure". Win: shakes his head no and goes in for the hug again :<<< so cute
Episode 5 (July 27)
5-1
they do overuse the Win refusing to eat and then chugging it down joke but oh well
us going to see Win played by Mix have a period... I wish I didn't have a period but since I do, I wish that was me at least. wish i could shed my physical form for real
5-4
Jan as Win saying the food is too cute to eat and then ripping it's head off in a bite >:) hehe
anyway this is so embarrassing T.T I've seen clips of it but I fully thought Win was drunk lmfao
Also what right did Win have to do that to Korn's boss?
Did the period only last like a day lol fun
Episode 6 (July 27)
6-1
they were just at bangkok and are now back at the farm, how long was the detour? i guess they're really close because Korn's hotel that he works at is close
Y'know the aunt is so bossy and sassy and confident and bitchy, it's weird that Win's home vibes are so patriarchal and sexist when that's not the case for like his extended family
Bro why does Win treat everybody like shit? Like okay the angry outburst against his aunt and uncle is caused by an event, his anger against Korn has history, but him now being like "Shut up for eyes!" at Non trying to calm him down when 2 minutes ago he was yelling at Non to be a good friend and keep an eye on his farm is so agh.
Oh wait the monk guy who told Win about the holy water is his actual uncle? Like his aunt and father's actual brother.
6-2
Dang, Korn's saying he'll give his share back to Win after he's back in his body?
lmfao the mother talking all happily about how she's noticed Lin likes Korn since the father's funeral and also that Korn likes Lin back. Win meanwhile dying like Lin likes Korn?!?! + fuck Korn likes Lin
Knowing that the mom is apparently evil, I'm like nooo don't give her the bottles of holy water
Damn, aunt really wants her nephew to just not wake up so that they can get the shares. The farm's gonna go under without Win my guy, where'll you get money from the farm then?
6-3
Also rip Win even more because of pronouns and grammar in Thai, it's not even just that "I think Korn likes you" with an ambiguous 'you' but rather explicitly "I think Korn likes Lin" where Lin = you since she thinks she's talking to Lin. rip
bruh every time Korn looks away from the road for like long stretches to stare at/talk to Win, I wanna yell
rip "Yes, mom was right. He loves Lin."
6-4
Win continually seeing Lin's body everytime he looks in the mirror even as we as viewers see Mix is so alkdfjsakldfj
omg Win repeating "Tu es Lin. Tu n'es pas Win." while there are flashbacks to all the times Korn took care of Win throughout the trip but the same scene now followed by Lin's actual body instead of us seeing Win
Dang, Win's outbursts are fr so intense. Slapping the ocean and everything
alksdf bruh reading from the r/boyslove thread for episode 6, I've learned that people thought the aunt and uncle were actually married. As in the aunt is Win's father's sister and Gunsmile's character married her. lmfao they gave me such sibling vibes though
Episode 7 (July 28)
7-1
"Before blaming others, why don't you look back at yourself first?" So true Mr. Monk
This show is too fond of flashbacks: it's like we already saw this in 3 other flashbacks and if we didn't it's because it only happened 2 minutes ago so why do we already need another flashback
hmm is this gonna be actual character development? The monk seemed to get through to Win and now he's even apologizing. Hope it sticks
7-3
Win saying he won't treat Korn badly again + helping him with his foot and stuff, which I'm glad for but also it's only episode 7. I'll be annoyed if they make the character yell and be terrible to Korn and his family again at the drop of a hat just for some drama.
I think this show did the "list my flaws" + other person actually starts listing flaws better than when they had Mork list like 100+ flaws of Pi
What did Korn do? Did he switch the bottles of holy water?
Win's "I am picking on you, pay attention to me" killed me
7-4
loll Korn saying "good job kid" for teasing them about getting married
Episode 8 (July 28)
8-1
Bruh a kind of love confession followed by a kiss
8-2
Korn's "I'm sorry" in sand waking up to Win's "me too"
did Win... give Korn mouth-to-mouth underwater? tf
3 intense things going on (the drowning, the bottle debacle, Win's body going through it) but there's like no tension for me lol I guess I'm just not invested enough
8-4
Wow Korn smarticler than me because I thought he was straight up switching the bottles but he was actually getting more from the Abbotts and split half of the bottle he couldn't get because of his foot accident
Korn calling out for Win first after they've switched back bodies but comforting a crying Lin first rip the misunderstandings
Episode 9 (July 29)
9-1
I can't tell how Win and Lin regularly are because now they're teasing each other but Lin was so meek in the first episode against Win's abusive behaviour
9-3
This awkward ass conversation between the mom and Korn while Lin and Win sit there... I'm boutta shrivel up. the eye contact each character makes with the others, all 3 of them knowing Win was in Lin's body while the mother's unaware. Speaking of, how will they make the mother evil fr? I'm assuming somehow the mother being evil will come into play with why Korn got 1/4 of the farm but show's almost over lol
"They just kissed, what responsibility are you taking T.T" <- says I who will definitely have to marry a guy if my parents found out I was kissing him
bruh ENGAGEMENT?! is the engagement related to the mother being evil thing? now the 1/4 of the farm will also be under the family
9-4
lmfao Korn and Win having this tense, sad moment of Win denying how he feels and Korn going "If you're not too stupid, you should know how I feel" alkdjsf
all this on the day of the engagement, I'm dead
Episode 10 (July 29)
10-1
This engagement stuff is so confusing, like why haven't we gotten a single conversation between Korn and Lin? There's no tension because I know they're not gonna go through with it + the 3 people involved know about the switching bodies, so I just wanna get to the part where it's resolved
lmfao Lin and Non literally the ruse of the engagement going until straight up the day of the engagement?! This show is either repetitive with the same food jokes/Win's tantrums like in the first 3/4 or like now where nothing makes sense
10-2
bruh she's confessing her crimes but idc.
I wonder if they'll deal with the mother thing more in the next uhh 20 minutes or if we just get that 5 minute reasoning that came out of the left field + the crying/consoling of the mother
10-3
Instead of this drama, I wish we'd seen a more introspective, consistent journey for Win's anger management issues lol. My guy was abusive to his family and terrible to his friends up until like 2 days ago, I wish we got to spend more time on his growth rather than him just being mostly okay now
a little ad for the actual farm this is filmed at lol
10-4
I'm glad they gave us really cute Korn/Win in this last part because I haven't liked the last 2 episodes and didn't really care about anything in the 2 before that. At least the last segment had me smiling.
I got the gender shenanigans (the fact that Win was a guy in Lin’s body and we got to see Win and so did his friends ahh so good), I got to see Jan, I got some Thai food, so in those aspects it's good. In terms of writing, characterization and character progression, this show leaves things to be desired. The only character in the show who changes at all in Win and he just... kinda changed and stopped being a dick but I would've liked more introspection and apology and actual progression for him in the last 2 episodes rather than pointless drama, much of which came out of the left field (we really got the mom thing for like 3 minutes lmfao she orchestrated a fallout over a will + tried to marry Korn and Lin even though she knew Win likes him before).
I was bored in the 2nd half because aspects I'd liked in the second half became repetitive and then the last 2 episodes weren't repetitive because just random things were happening. It didn't make me angry because I was apathetic and didn't care, which might be worse (like for KinnPorsche, it irritated me that the plot and Kinn and Porsche's arcs were bad because I liked so many other things and wanted it to be good but here it's like whelp, I had no hope for it anyway).
Rating: 5.5/10 I've already forgotten most of the show
Tiktoks:
I searched up CLW on tiktok because I liked getting glimpses of it even though I wasn't watching it. These are all tiktoks I faved before starting the show, mostly while it was airing.
Korn making Win laugh while he's having period pains (ep 5)
Mix/Jan doing the same things as Win edit (bg music: deja vu)
"Korn help me name my boy"
Win and Lin after switching back + Win seeing Korn comfort Lin
Win being scolded by Korn and tearing up, then being hugged

Alfie Solomons X Reader
Summary: The scary gangster realizes that there’s only one creature that will not do as he says and his soft spot for the eldest girl grows into something else before he can prevent it.
Part 1
“She’s cranky.”
“Move away if you don’t want this kiss.”
He’s not going to say it.
Not when he watches you fiddle around with the buttons in your hand, the one your younger sister ripped off her jacket the same morning. He will not open his mouth when you come around to talk to him about some shipments and some things that don’t add up. Not even when you’re so close to him, standing right next to his seated form that he can smell the vanilla off you.
Although everyone knows it.
The match was rather uneventful, a test of some sorts for the gangster to make sure he kept his hands to himself. He had behaved, asked after the girls and about you and you’d given him vague information while wearing what he thought seemed like a golden shower. He had gone out to gather himself a few times, leaving a confused pretty lady and snickering Ollie behind.
He was a man that got everything he wanted.
People never said no to him, most of the time they already knew what he wanted anyway but you just toyed with the gangster. A few smiles here and there, a slight touch on his arm and he was feeling some type of way already. He had dropped you off at your house after collecting your sisters and found his eyes searching for you in every little corner.
He was right fucked, as he’d put it.
It’s been a couple of months of you working for the gangster. The workload is significantly demanding and the more time passes, the more jobs he gives you but you don’t dare complain. Your sisters are all in school, some sort of daycare in the weekends whenever you have to work and he’s the one making sure you’re all taken care of.
There’s less screaming in the mornings, as Essie has grown fond of the broad man who shows up nearly every morning with breakfast in his hands. She’s young, and even Lily doesn’t see the way he steals glances your way but Emily, the oldest is not blind and the gangster forgets that. Although he doesn’t mind in the slightest.
The bakery is hot with the changing season, hot to a point where short sleeves do not cut it anymore. The women at the front bakery store have told you to wear skirts, long ones with less garments underneath but you have decided on a dress, nothing fancy but something to get you by around the house as well. It almost hugs you too tight in some areas and you realize this once some bakers start giving you a look but are too afraid to flirt or even comment.
Since you’re off limits.
Apparently everyone knows but you. The workers, the bakers around the front, even Emily but she won’t say a word because she thinks Alfie will take away her going out at night privileges she’s earned by taking care of Lily. You climb the stairs, footsteps soft against the wood and he hears it, almost feels a lump in his throat but decides he’s too much of a man to feel light-headed around a woman, whatever that means.
You knock once and enter, don’t realize the way his eyes are ogling you in the dress you’re in. A smile is apparent on your lips and he knows what day it is.
“Mr. Solomons-”
“‘s Alfie, lass.” he says, like a plea at this point to try and get you stop calling him by his surname. Not only does he want to hear you say his name but the formality does things to him where he has to shift in his pants.
“Mr. Solomons, Lily has that ballet recital today and I was wondering if I could leave early to get ready.” you say and he nods, looking at your eyes the entire time.
He knows what day it is, since Lily has spoken of it so much and you realize the gangster remembers everything, well almost everything, they say. She’s been showing him some moves she’s learned for the recital every morning he’s around and all he’d do was to clap with Essie on his lap.
“When is it, pet?” he asks, the pet name stuck on you after months of working for the man and you don’t mind. If anything, it’s the evident mark on his soft spot for you but you don’t ponder on it too much.
“Around 7, I think. Shouldn’t last too long.” you speak and he throws a light smile your way. His lips are closed this time as he watches you, head to toe and you wonder about how appropriate some things he does around you are.
That is not to say that you’re not oblivious but you’ve been around enough men to know the signs. The way he leans towards you while walking, the small nods he throws your way each time you’re around his perimeter and not to mention Essie telling you that Alfie had been calling you ‘the pretty sister’ for a while now.
But you decide some things take time.
And you speak this time, before he can ang the slight glisten in his eyes do not help. “You want to come with?” you speak, and his eyebrows raise slowly.
He’s a smart man.
Taking care of his late employee’s girls as much as he could, that was smart. Offering them all his help and even visiting them in the mornings, that was smart. Hiring his pretty little daughter who happens to be an excellent bookkeeper to walk around in dresses, that was not smart.
Going to the younger one’s ballet recital, that would not be smart.
He didn’t care for the talk around town, people loved to gossip and he knew it from being around the streets but he figured it would hurt the little girls and her. And he wouldn’t let that happen, it simply wasn’t smart.
But he did want to see you in a different dress, all dolled up.
He wasn’t too proud of the dreams he’d been having, they were mostly daydreams but he’d caught himself envisioning you in too many scenarios that involved a lack of clothing and an expression of pure bliss. He knew the boundaries but the looks you would give him didn’t help.
“Lily would like it.” you speak and it’s the last blow.
And you know it.
Unlike what many would’ve thought, the gangster is not all he was told to be. Sure, he’s scary looking and very cruel to some but not to little girls. He’s soft, too kind at times you find out as you watch him play with your little sisters every morning.
He doesn’t care, he realizes and the words leave his mouth before he can stop himself, although it doesn’t bother him in the slightest. “I’m fuckin’ there, lass.”
------
He can hear the screaming.
He knocks once on the door and braces himself. The man has been to war, seen dead bodies with their brains all over the soil but this, this he has to get ready for. Emily opens the door with a scowl, which then turns into a smile when she sees it’s him. She’s wearing a pretty dress, hair done beautifully and Alfie wonders how the other ones are looking.
“Hello, Mr. Solomons.” she speaks, Alfie can tell you have taught her to speak that day but reckons he can do better.
“Aye, Emily, what did we say about ya’ callin’ me that, hm?” he asks, not swearing although it takes all his might to be careful.
“But Y/N said-” she says and confirms his suspicions. Alfie throws a smile at the young girl before stepping in and realizing the living room is empty, although the screaming has not stopped.
“Eh, your sister says a lot of things, don’t she.” he asks and sits down on his usual place on the sofa and Emily sits next to the gangster and nods. She’s changing by the passing day and Alfie feels like he can’t catch up.
“Good thing she’s pretty.” Emily says in all seriousness and it causes him to burst into laughter, laughter in which Emily joins her.
And that’s when you emerge from the bedroom.
Lily is holding your hand, wearing a purple dress with ribbons on her hair. Alfie can tell she cried from the hiccups that come and go but she has a smile on her lips now. Essie, on the other hand, is still crying as you hold her on the other side. Her dress is slightly different in color, looks wonderful nonetheless.
And there’s you.
Your dress is slightly shorter and completely different in color. The olive green material ends around just under your knees, with a generous look around your collarbones. Your hair is tied, a low bun which Essie threatens to ruin at any given moment. Alfie feels himself get stuck for a second but Emily slightly elbows him so that the brute can gather himself and speak.
“’ello, pet.” he speaks and Lily slowly approaches him, as she sometimes does and reaches for the beard. Alfie lets him, eyes traveling from the little one to you.
“I didn’t hear you come in.” you say, voice soft as you put Essie on the couch next to Emily so you can get your coat and theirs.
“Em let me in.” Alfie says and Emily nods, her youngest sister on her lap.
“Oh..okay.” you say and disappear behind the door. The entire time, Alfie is watching you go and Emily is watching him. She’s amused to say the least.
And that’s when Essie starts crying again.
You emerge from one of the rooms with all their coats. The little one is not coming with you, as your trusted neighbor has agreed to watch her for the night. You dress Lily and Emily dresses herself in their coats and Alfie clears his throat, making you look up at him and he signals Essie and her crying.
Although he’s far too used to it at this point.
“She’s just cranky, I don’t know why.” you say, clearly frustrated as you finally let go of Lily and reach for Essie to put her coat on.
“Tried the bribin’?” he asks with a smile on his lips and you shake your head.
“Well, if you’re talking about giving her sweets to shut her up....yes.” you say and he chuckles with a curt nod.
Then all of you get in the car, with Alfie’s hand on the small of your back and you carrying Essie. You don’t miss the way Emily looks at you, eyebrows wiggling each time she catches your eye but you just tell her to stay put. Then you drop off Essie, with much trouble and get to the recital with a gangster sitting next to you.
----
The recital goes on pretty smoothly, all cheers and smiles as Alfie lingers at the back. Emily claps for her sister, a smile on her lips as she does so but you excuse yourself a little after to get some air as they get ready for the next act. Alfie watches you walk towards the back part through the exit and decides Emily is old enough to take care of herself.
He finds you sitting on the pavement around the back part of the building, breathing deeply as you look around every now and then. He knows you need these moments. Moments of stillness without any screams, without Emily asking you for a dress or Lily’s chocolate covered hands. He knows you love them but the deed is much too strong for you.
“Y/N.” he says, cautious as he approaches you. You’re no longer sitting but leaning against the concrete block.
“Emily’s inside?” you ask, your prior concern always being your sisters. He nods and speaks.
“Yeah, she ‘s.” he says and you nod this time.
You search his eyes then, for something that will tell you why he’s there. It’s easy to grow fond of him, you think, especially when you see him so much but there’s another side to the coin you don’t like to think of. The danger that comes.
“Something wrong?” you ask and see the heaviness in his gaze. You don’t quite know what it is, since he’s not a man easily read but you figure you know a thing or two by now.
He shakes his head and then looks at you. There’s uncertain things swimming in your orbs much like him and he wonders if they’re the same things. Doubts and then turns his face to look at the sky.
“There’s somethin’, yeah..” he speaks and you know better than to interrupt him.  “.....somethin’ I really wanna fuckin’ do.” he says and you nod, urging him to go on but he seems to stall for a second. He then speaks, he’s not looking at the sky anymore but you. “But see, pet, there are things yeah, fuckin’ things blockin’ my way.”
he says and watches you nod, understanding but then you stop and a smile graces your lips. It’s not mocking but not sweet either.
And then you speak, not afraid to counter his words. “I never took you as someone who’d stop just because there were....things blocking the way.” you speak and you half-know what he’s saying.
He’s not the most subtle of admirers. You’re not bothered by it, quite the opposite if anything. You know he’s a man of power, known as cruel to some although you’d speak to differ. His lines are all harsh, you’re too soft compared to him so you don’t count on the opportunity of anything happening.
He takes a step towards you, and then one more until he’s entirely too close. You don’t dare move and his eyes are locked into your lips. You are right, he thinks, he’s not a man that stops at anything just because he’s had a couple of doubts. But then, the doubts are worth taking into account if it’s you. He’s all harsh lines and your softness seems unreachable to him.
His eyes look at your lips for a solid second, his entire presence looming over you as you stay still. He’s tall, a bit too tall for you if you’re honest but you just crane your neck and he leans down slightly, you’d know what his lips would feel like against yours.
And then he moves and speaks. “Move away if you don’t want this kiss.”
He’s not a man of doubts, he gathers and yes, there is a lot at stake but he goes after what he wants. Alfie always has and currently, the thing he wants is standing right in front of him and he’ll be damned if he’s gonna pass up the opportunity to kiss the pretty lass.
His lips are soft, unexpectedly so as his hand finds your waist and resides there while the other cradles your skull with a gentleness that seems foreign to him. He kisses you softly before pulling away slightly to see if you’ve moved in any way but sees you staring at his lips, standing exactly still.
Then you reach for him.
He thinks he’s dreamed it until your lips peck his for the last time and you break the kiss. He sees the blush rising on your cheeks, lipstick smeared and hair slightly puffier than before. He doesn’t take a step back, stares down at you as you fix yourself too fast for him to realize what’s happening but he remembers you’re good at fixing people up.
You sigh, licking your lips once more to savor the feel of his lips before you speak. Your voice is breathy and he has to stop himself from assaulting your lips once more. “Come on, then. Emily will be waiting.”
And he follows you like your tail for the rest of the evening.
-----
He’s smiling like a damn fool.
It’s easy to realize that the big scary gangster is not all that cruel. Sure, there is a side to him that’s simply cruel. He’s not the most forgiving when it comes to some either but he also happens to be a huge teddy bear, you think as you watch him handle Essie after you’ve opened the front door to the house.
“Emily, can you take care of Essie for a minute?” you ask, not waiting for an answer from your sister before you drag Alfie by his sleeve to the kitchen. The girls stare at each other for a while before they all move to their rooms, except Lily who waits for you in front of the door.
You close the door, immediately after he enters the kitchen and look at him with a stern gaze. He’s making it obvious, all of it. The big scary gangster has had a stupid grin on his face ever since you’d kissed him and it makes you frustrated.
“What?” he asks, still smiling a little as you stand in front of him, arms crossed and not amused at all.
“Are you going to stop smiling?” you ask, a slight mock to your words as you stare up at him.
He takes a step towards you then, his aim to trap you between his broad form and the door almost achieved before you escape his embrace by ducking under his arm.
“Lass, come ‘ere.” he says with a tone you haven’t heard before and you don’t follow his orders, as much as you want to.
“Alfie, the girls are right outside.” you say, trying to take steps back each time he takes one towards you. Your back meets the cold wall then, a ‘shit’ passes your lips and he chuckles. His breath tickles your face. It’s not that you don’t want to kiss the gangster but the chance of Emily barging in to see the scene is too high to risk it.
But it seems as though he doesn’t care.
His lips are greedy this time, not as soft as they’ve been as he devours you within the short amount of time he’s given. You moan lowly at the way he’s kissing you and hear a thump against the kitchen door which makes both of you stop.
“Let me in!” Lily screams and it makes Alfie chuckle while all you do is glare.
Before you can open the door and pick your sister up, Alfie traps your small frame between the wall and him again and speaks. He’s not daft and knows how he wants to carry this out. His voice comes out muffled between his small pecks.
“We’ll talk once they’ve gone to fuckin’ bed, yeah, I’ll wait, pet.” he says, eyes greedy as he lets you go. You nod once more before opening the door and taking a red-faced Lily in your arms.
She doesn’t say anything at first but then speaks, connecting the dots a bit faster than you’d initially thought she would. She speaks as loud as she can and you swear she’s doing it on purpose.
“What were you doing?!” she says and finger points at Alfie but before he can answer you put her on the sofa and speak.
“Grown-up stuff.” you say and that seems to shut her up for the time being.
Emily then comes in the living room with Essie on her arms, Lily now sitting on Alfie’s lap as he tells the little girl a story about another dog he had. You watch him as his eyes meet yours in the middle of speaking, a childish glisten before he cradles her in his arms and speaks.  “Now, time for bed, innit.”
The rest of the night is filled with you running around as Essie screams and Alfie rocks her around. She doesn’t seem to mind the rocking until she almost throws up on him and it makes you laugh entirely too much for an accident. Emily takes care of herself, in bed before bedtime and you take care of Emily in the meantime.
When you walk into Essie’s room, you see her on his arms as he rocks her back and forth, the little one sound asleep. You note the way she’s holding onto his bracelets and how he hesitates to put her in the crib. You give him a small nod and close the door behind you. He pecks your lips once more before taking your hand and dragging you away into your room and murmurs under his breath to not wake the little one. “Time for grown-up stuff.”

“Thank you, Barry,” you said as he left the office at the brewery. Your head was still up when your dad slipped inside and he shut the door. “What’s up?”
“There’s a talent scout out in the draft room,” he said.
“Fascinating,” you said, going back to reading over a contract with a new distributor.
“Y/N they’re here to see you.” You turned in your seat and stared at him, breaking out into a giggle. “I’m serious.”
“This is by far your worst prank yet.”
“You modeled some of the new merch last week? He’s here for you,” he said.
“To what, model?” you scoffed. “No thank you.”
“Well can you go tell him that because he was insisting on hearing it from you,” he said. You sighed and walked out front, a guy in a suit with no tie on sipping from a glass. He smiled when he saw your dad behind you.
“Ms. Ackles,” he said, holding out his hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“It’s Mrs. Hanover,” you said with a friendly enough smile.
“You’re clearly used to some hard negotiations.”
“I’m tougher than I look Mr…”
“Elbridge but please call me Dan.”
“What can I do for you today, Dan?” you asked. He walked out to a quieter spot by the railing, settling at one ot the standing tables.
“I work for a talent agency, Mrs. Hanover. We’ve worked with your father a few times when he was starting out,” he said, your dad giving a nod. “We’ve seen your modeling pictures and we’re very interested in you doing a shoot.”
“I appreciate the offer but my answer is no. I’m not a model or an actress or any of the things my parents are besides someone invested in this brewery,” you said.
“She is a tough cookie,” he said as he looked at your dad. “I’m assuming you told her nothing I told you.”
“You gotta sell it on your own,” he said.
“Y/N, we’d like you to be in a commercial with some other women. An underwear commercial.”
“Excuse me?”
“It’s a commercial for inclusivity for people with differences,” he said.
“He means the scar on your back, Y/N. From the accident,” said your dad.
“You’re exactly the kind of person we want included in the line. There’ll be a photo run of things too and-“
“Why exactly do you know I have a scar on my back?”
“Your Instagram. I assumed it was public knowledge.”
“Okay but it’s not even that big. Like it blends in. I’m boring. Get like, an amputee or a burn survivor. That’s inclusive. I’m average.”
“We have a vast array of women in the line including those types and all kinds of body types. But you’re...a brand name we could put to the project.”
“Brand name,” you said. He hummed and you laughed. “My dad? That’s a brand name, not me. Throw him in some underwear and I’m sure you’ll get all the attention you want.”
“Well we want you,” he said. He pulled out a business card and handed it over. “Our initial offer is on the back but we’re open to negotiations. Call us if you think you might be interested. Oh and the beer’s great.”
“Thanks,” you said, looking over the card. The guy had wandered off by the time you flipped it over.
“I told him you wouldn’t be interested,” said your dad, sipping from his bottle of water. You blinked at the card, your dad raising an eyebrow. “You’re not considering it are you?”
“Dad,” you said. You flipped the card around and showed it to him, water spitting out of his mouth.
“Hey, Dan,” he said, rushing back and waving him over. Dan smiled as he walked back, drink in his hand.
“I thought that’d-” said Dan before your dad got in his face. “Is there a problem?”
“What are you up to,” he said.
“Dad.”
“Y/N no one gets offered that much money off the street. No one. So I’m gonna ask again. What are you up to?”
“It’s for a package deal. A photo shoot. A commercial. Ad sponsorship for three months bi-weekly on her social media accounts. We’d also like her to design the set for the commercial. There’s a time crunch of next week so we felt a hundred was a fair offer for that amount of work on short notice,” said Dan. “If she were simply modeling, we’d offer her twenty five but this is our biggest line of the year. You are more than welcome to come along every step of the way.”
“Dan I really do appreciate the offer but I’m not a model. I don’t even remember the last time I wore makeup. I will happily design a set and build if you like and maybe I can do the ad thing but I’m not a model like my parents. Can I talk to my dad for a second?”
He nodded and walked off a ways, your dad sighing.
“Maybe mom could do it or something? She’s done that stuff before,” you said.
“I’m not gonna tell you what to do. Go for the set design for sure. You’re good at it and I know you get to break back into your architecture skills for that. But the rest...once you get on that train you can’t get off.”
“Dad, people already know who I am. I have like...an obnoxious number of followers on my accounts and stuff. My most popular posts? Always about you. I’ve never been in the shadows.”
“I know but that’s different than you doing these things. If you start taking pictures in underwear, you’re gonna attract at least a few weirdos and most of them are harmless but maybe some aren’t and there is a reason that Uncle Cliff still hangs out with me at certain times.”
“It’s a hundred thousand dollars. TJ and I could pay off the lawyer fees for Allie’s adoption finally,” you said. “We could get our mortgage payment down.”
“You’ve never cared about money,” he said. You pursed your lips and he narrowed his eyes. “Are things tight?”
“Dad.”
“Are they?”
“I don’t ask about your finances.”
“I sat down with both you and TJ when you bought the house and even with the renovation costs, your monthly payment was very affordable. Allie’s adoption should have been paid off months ago.”
“Do you stalk our spending now or what?” you shot back.
“Well you haven’t bought a new car or any big expenses. Where’s the money going?” he asked.
“I’ll take the set design and leave it at that,” you said. You brushed past him and over to Dan.
Thirty minutes later you had a signed contract and were back in your office, your dad grumbling as he walked inside.
“I’m busy,” you said.
“Where’s the money going, Y/N?”
“TJ and I make very good money,” you said, typing up an email. He leaned over the desk and narrowed his eyes. “I took the set design only for twenty. Happy?”
“Why do you need twenty thousand dollars?”
“Coming from the guy who made how much fucking money for a single freaking episode? At least I’m not slutting out my face,” you said. He stood back and slammed the door shut on his way out. You sighed and got up, finding him out back, splitting old pallets down. “Dad I’m sorry.”
“Whatever,” he mumbled.
“Dad. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.”
“Yeah you did,” he said. “That is exactly why I didn’t want you doing that shoot. Then all you are is a pretty face.”
He moved a pallet and picked up the axe again, bringing it down in the center.
“Dad.”
“What?” he snapped as he spun around.
“I said it because I knew it’d make you mad and piss you off and get you to drop it. It’s the only reason I said it. Please stop asking about where my money goes. Please.”
“Are you in trouble?”
“Dad I said to stop asking.”
“Tough shit,” he said with a shrug. “Call me whatever you want. Maybe I get pissed off but I’ll cool off too. I know how much you make and I know how much he makes and I know you two have both been taking side jobs recently. You should have your house paid off by now, not barely making your mortgage. What’s going on and I want the truth.”
“I can’t.”
“What’s TJ involved in,” he said. You looked away and he nodded. “There are very few reasons why you wouldn’t tell me the truth and considering how small Allie and Colin are, he’s the only one I can think of.”
“I can’t.”
“Hey! There you are,” said TJ, walking around the corner with a bag in his hand. “I was out at a ranch nearby for work and figured we could have lunch together.”
“Speak of the little devil,” said your dad. He dropped the axe and TJ set the food on the hood of his truck, cocking his head.
“You okay, Jensen?” he asked.
“Peachy,” he said, putting his hands on his hips when he stopped in front of him. “So. Want to tell me what’s going on with your finances lately?”
TJ glanced to you and you shook your head.
“Nothing,” said TJ quietly.
“You want to try that again and not lie to me this time?” asked Jensen. TJ shook his head and your dad shut his eyes. “If you’re involved in something bad, let me help. I have money.”
“TJ just tell him,” you said. TJ sighed and picked up the food, walking over to the employee picnic area and sat down. You took a seat beside him and TJ handed you a wrapped burrito, your dad sitting across from him.
“I’m not angry. Let me help is all,” said your dad.
“It’s not us who’s in trouble,” said TJ. Your dad looked to you and you nodded. “It’s my dad.”
“Oh you two,” he said, shutting his eyes. “You’re paying off Rick’s debt he owes somebody, aren’t you.”
“Rick owes money to a bookie and...he beat him up kinda bad and we have extra so…” you said, your dad staring at you. “He asked us not to tell anyone.”
“How much?” he asked.
“Five...hundred,” said TJ.
“Five hundred thousand?” he asked, your heads nodding. “Five hundred thousand? What...how much have you given him already?”
“About half,” said TJ. Your dad shook his head and put his hands over his face, quickly pulling them off. “I know it’s a lot.”
“Yeah…” he said, swallowing to himself.
“We got it covered. Really. At the rate we’re doing extra side work-”
“Kids...you’re both so kind I think you missed something pretty important,” said your dad.
“I don’t understand,” said TJ. He looked to you and you shrugged.
“Guys that’s a lot of money. That’s...an extraordinary amount of money to a lot of people. How on earth does your father owe that much money all of a sudden?” asked your dad.
“He made some bets he lost on,” said TJ.
“But how could it be that much. What was the original bet?”
“What?”
“What was the original bet he made and lost on?”
“I don’t know. We figured it must have been like a hundred.”
“So your father bet a hundred, say he lost. That’s two hundred. Say he got some insane interest on it. Okay. Maybe, maybe he truly owes that much. But where did he get that original one hundred?”
“He didn’t have it,” said TJ. “We think.”
“Okay. He bet badly and ends up owing the whole thing,” he said.
“Exactly.”
“Do you give this money to Rick or the bookie?” asked your dad.
“My dad. He didn’t want us to get involved with the guy,” said TJ.
“Okay,” said your dad. “Here’s what’s gonna happen. I’m gonna drive up to your folks this afternoon TJ and talk to your dad, see what’s left he owes. I will pay the rest.”
“Jensen that’s a lot of money.”
“I know it is. But it’s better to get him out of the hole quickly before something were to happen and I can afford it. Okay? I’m gonna head up. You two enjoy your lunch. I’ll be home in a few hours.”
Something was off about him as he stood and left but you weren’t quite sure what was wrong.
“My dad’s gonna be pissed. He didn’t want Jensen to know at all,” said TJ.
“He wants to help. He’s got a point. The quicker it’s paid off, the quicker your dad’s out of danger. Let’s have lunch and you can tell me about that ranch you’re fixing up.”
“Arrow,” you grumbled that night as she reached for the hot pan. “Let it cool off.”
“Why are we having dinner at your house?” she asked. “No offense but you can only cook like five things.”
“Would you like to cook dinner for seven?” you asked. She held up her hands and you rolled your eyes.
“To be fair, Colin still eats baby food,” she said.
“Thank you for volunteering to feed your nephew,” you said with a grin.
“I didn’t-”
“Ro!” he said as he waddled into the kitchen, wrapping her legs up in a hug.
“I hate you,” she said, narrowing her eyes before she picked him up.
“Thank you Arrow,” you said as she put him on her hip. “He’s got dinner in the fridge if you wouldn’t mind?”
“I got it,” she said, opening it up one handed. “Mom and dad have some last minute thing or something?”
“I don’t know,” you said, your phone ringing, Jared’s name popping up. “Can you get that?”
“Hey Uncle Jared,” she said, hitting it on speaker.
“Arrow? Hey you mind finding your sister for me?” he asked.
“She’s busy making dinner. Apparently it’s very difficult.”
“I’m here Jared,” you said. You grabbed the phone and shoved it between your shoulder and ear. “What’s up?”
“Don’t freak out,” he said. “But come outside.”
You turned down the heat on the stove and went out the front door, finding Jared on the seat out front.
“Uh, what’s up?” you asked, pulling the door shut behind you. “This is weird.”
“Your dad may have...listen. Shit went down when Jensen went up to see TJ’s dad whatever his fuckface name is.”
“Jared.”
“Oh you’re about to call him fuckface too.”
“What happened?”
“Well...he had a bad feeling about this whole thing. He and De went up there to talk to them. Things aren’t...your dad’s in the hospital.”
“What?” you said quietly. He stood up and gave you a smile, pulling you into a hug.
“It’s okay. He got a little cut when he got...pushed,” he said.
“Jared,” said TJ, stepping outside with a curious look. “What’s up dude?”
“Normally being the Uncle is the fun stuff,” he said. TJ frowned when you both saw a cop car pull into your driveway, Cody getting out. “Codes.”
“Dad, I got this,” he said as he hopped up on the porch. You smiled and looked back at TJ. “Oh shut up. I got adopted like six months ago. I might as well.”
“What exactly is happening?” asked TJ.
“Dad,” said Cody again. Jared sat back in the seat, Cody sighing. “TJ...dude I’m sorry. You’re like my brother.”
“Did my...did something happen to my parents,” he said quietly, Cody’s head shaking. “Oh.”
“Rick’s been stealing money from you. There’s no bookie to pay off. Jensen and De went up today to talk to him and they found out the truth and your dad’s got in a fist fight and you guys ought to head up North. It’s not my jurisdiction so I’m not much help.”
“My father did what?” said TJ. Cody glanced at you and you looked down. “That’s not true.”
“Yes, it is,” he said. “TJ the police from your hometown looked into it. He took the money. He’s claiming it was a gift from the two of you but we all know that’s not true.”
“No, he’s been making progress. We’ve been making progress. We’ve been getting along really well,” said TJ.
“Did that start when you started giving him money?” asked Cody.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m just saying what I know as a cop. Did your relationship start changing when money started exchanging hands?”
“Why does he hate me,” said TJ. You grabbed his hand and he shut his eyes. “He must hate me. That’s the only reason I can see why he would do something like that.”
“He doesn’t hate you,” you said.
“He hates you and Jensen. He thinks De is eye candy to stare at. I don’t know how on earth he can pretend to like me,” he said.
“TJ,” said Jared.
“You gonna tell me he loves me or some shit? It’s not good enough,” said TJ.
“I was gonna say you can cut him out of your life if you want to and you’re still gonna have a dad you know. I don’t understand him. I do think he loves you but there’s some resentment towards everyone else you call family. I don’t know why but it’s your choice what you want to do. I’m gonna go inside and finish cooking dinner and we’ll watch all of them tonight. Y/N-”
“I got him,” you said with a nod.
Ten minutes later you were on the road and driving, TJ staring out the passenger window.
“Honey-”
“Don’t,” he said, voice barely above a whisper. You reached over and grabbed his hand, TJ squeezing it. “We’re going to my parents house after and we’re packing up as much crap as we can to bring back. I’m never speaking to him again after tonight.”
“TJ.”
“All the late hours I put in doing side jobs. All the jobs you’ve been doing for set design on the weekends. For months and months we’ve been doing it. Straight into his fucking pocket. We could have paid off the house with that money. Paid off bills. That’s our money. It’s our kids money. It’s not some sack of shit’s to go buy whatever he wants with. I could fucking kill him.”
“We’ll get it back,” you said.
“It’s not about the money.”
“I know, babe,” you said.
“Why is he like that?”
“It’s not an excuse but I think he was raised very poorly and he doesn’t...he knows it’s wrong but I think he thinks we have so much it’s okay if he takes from us.”
“He took two hundred and fifty thousand dollars from us. A year of side jobs for the both of us on top of everything else. We sleep four hours a night. We weren’t handed that. We worked for it. We worked our asses off. All that pressure and all the pressure we thought somebody would hurt him if we were late with money? I can’t believe I ever gave a shit about him. I should have trusted you. You’ve never liked him. No one in your family did. Even Arrow and that kid loves everybody. I should have trusted you guys.”
“TJ they didn’t like him because of the way he treated you, not me. I knew he was a dick when I met him but he belittles you, so, so much. We hate that he does that to you.”
“I don’t know how my mom is married to someone like him.”
“Don’t cut her out,” you said. “She raised you. You’re all her. Anyone who meets you can see that.”
“He’s going to lie when I see him again. I don’t know what to do,” he said.
“Why?” you asked.
“Because.” You pulled over and he sat back in his seat. He turned his head and you saw all the tears streaming down his face.
“Honey,” you said. You leaned over and hugged him, TJ gripping you back.
“He’d kick my ass for crying right now.”
“Who was it that sat up with my dad after the accident and let him cry all over him? My dad who hates to cry and he’s not afraid to cry in front of you.”
“He’s strong. I’m not.”
“You’re my best friend. The girl who thought she was so fucked up and would be alone. God, Thomas. You gave me something even my parents and family couldn’t. You know how I never thought in a million years I could have this kind of love and you were never scared. The insecurities. The nightmares. The days where I’m quiet and my head gets to me. You just grab my hand and you make it better. You’re stronger than most everyone on this planet. I love and I’ve loved you since I met you and I’ll do anything for you, you know that. We’re partners. If you want to give your dad another chance you can and I won’t question it for a second.”
“I don’t want to talk to him again,” he said, sitting up somewhat. “But how do I say that when you didn’t get a choice? You didn’t get a choice with your parents. They were just gone and you had no say. How can I just walk away like that?”
“My parents didn’t treat me like the way your father does. Neither of my moms or dads ever have. You can walk away from someone that does, TJ. I don’t want you near someone like that. Jared was right too you know. You’re not gonna lose a dad tonight. You’ve always had one and he’s gonna be there for you always.”
“He hurt Jensen, didn’t he?” he sniffled.
“I’m sure he's fine. He’s very...defensive of his children is all.”
“Jensen gave me a letter,” he said. “Addressed to me. That’s when I really knew he loved me.”
“He loved you before that.”
“I know he did. I don’t know why I wanted my dad when I’ve had Jensen the whole time.”
“I’ve been there. Trust me,” you said. He let out a small laugh and you hugged him, TJ taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry Rick hurt you.”
“He hurt both of us.”
“Yeah but I care more about the fact he hurt you. I may deck him when I see him,” you said.
“That’d be kinda awesome,” he said. “But please don’t.”
“Hugs instead?” you said.
“I’ll take hugs,” he said. His stomach grumbled and you kiss his temple.
“I’m gonna hit the drive thru and then we’ll get on the road again, okay honey?”
“Okay,” he said. You kissed him one last time before you got out of the car and dug around in the trunk. You took out your oversized hoodie and brought it up to the front, handing it to him. “What’s this?”
“You can steal it if you want. Your hoodie’s kinda make me feel better on crappy days,” you said.
“Thanks,” he said. “I really love you.”
“Me too. It’s gonna be okay.”
One Hour Later
“Let’s go to the hospital first,” said TJ as you hit the edge of town.
“Jared said my dad was fine.”
“Y/N. Let’s go to the hospital,” he said. You nodded and about ten minutes later you were parked and getting a room number. He held your hand on the elevator ride up, kissing the top of your head. “You alright?”
“I’d prefer if he could stay out of the hospital.”
“Me too,” he said, the doors opening. You walked a little too quickly until you found the room, your mom and dad talking as you walked in.
“What are you two doing here?” he asked.
“Jared and Cody came by and we learned some stuff,” you said. “Why are you in the hospital? You look...normal.”
“Your father hit his head.”
“I’m fine.”
“After the accident last year-”
“It was nearly a year ago.”
“After the accident they wanted to be safe and monitor overnight just in case. He got a cut on his arm from some metal but that’s all,” said your mom.
“I’m fine,” said your dad. He got up out of bed and spun around. “See? No concussion. An itty bitty scratch is all you worry worts.”
“Was there a fight?” you asked. He sat down and sighed. “You don’t look like it.”
“No,” he said. He looked at TJ and pursed his lips. “TJ would you mind grabbing me a drink from the vending machine?”
“Whatever you want to say, you’re gonna say it in front of me,” he said.
“Mom and I went up to your parents place and it started out okay. But your mom didn’t quite understand what was going on. She thought Rick had been doing well betting horses at a track and that’s where the sudden money came from. Things...devolved from there and Rick got defensive and I was angry so we started arguing and he shoved me and your mom and De shut it down and the cops came and I’m sorry but he took the money for himself. Last we heard from your mom a little while ago she’s giving all the money back to you guys.”
“You pressing charges?” asked TJ.
“It was a shove. He didn’t take my money. You two are the ones that have a right to charge him,” he said.
“Do you know where my mom is?” asked TJ.
“She’s at your house along with your dad,” he said.
“Y/N why don’t you hang here with your parents,” said TJ. You shook your head and he frowned. “You’re worried about your dad. Stay.”
“He’s okay and I’m coming with you,” you said.
“Me too,” said your mom.
“De-”
“TJ. You’re not gonna win this one,” she said. “Jensen’s okay on his own for a bit and he’d come if he could. You’re not gonna go talk to your dad alone.”
“Fine. Let’s go,” he said, already leaving the room. Your mom grabbed her purse and you ran your hands over your face.
“Go take care of him,” said your dad quietly.
“Dad.” You walked in front of him and he wrapped his arms around you. “He’s gonna be fucked up.”
“I know. We’ll take care of him,” he said. He kissed your temple and pushed you towards the door gently. “Go take care of your husband.”
“We’ll be back.”
“Guys I think maybe I should go in first,” said your mom a short while later, the three of you parked in his parent’s driveway.
“No,” said TJ.
“Thomas.”
“Danneel,” he said. He turned in the passenger seat and she sighed. “I’m a big boy. I can go in first.”
“Don’t be violent.”
“I won’t,” he said quietly. She kissed his cheek and nodded.
“Okay sweetie. Let’s get this over with,” she said. You got out and took his hand, TJ not as tense as you were expecting.
“His car isn’t here,” he said quietly on the way up the porch steps. He rang the doorbell and the door flew open, his mom standing there. “Hi mom.”
“I kicked him out for the night,” she said, letting the door open for the three of you. “I’m so sorry. Danneel is Jensen-”
“He’s pissed but fine,” said your mom, following you inside. TJ walked around for a moment, stopping at a picture on the wall.
“Mom. Why does dad hate me?” he asked. He looked over his shoulder and she frowned. “He manipulated me and Y/N. He’s horrible to her family. I get that he went through something as a kid but he’s a grown man.”
“Your father loves you. He doesn’t always know the best way to show it,” she said.
“He hurt me and you’re gonna side with him. Again,” he said.
“He made a mistake.”
“Hell of a mistake,” you mumbled.
“Do you think he wants to be the way he is?” she asked.
“I could have gotten past everything before but this? He doesn’t get to worm his way out of it. I’m done with him.”
“Then you’re gonna be done with me too,” she said. TJ turned around and she lifted her chin. “He doesn’t deserve to thrown out of your life over a mistake.”
“I seem to recall you not saying a word when he almost hit your grandaughter with a belt,” said TJ. “Why do you make excuses for him?”
“Why do you hate him?” she asked. TJ threw up his hands and shook his head. “Always since you were a little boy you’ve hated him.”
“He didn’t want me, not the other way around. I know he worked a lot but all I wanted when he came home at night was a hug or a bedtime story. I wasn’t asking for much,” said TJ. “He resented me.”
“He put in all those long hours for you, to provide for you.”
“I’ve been working since I was fourteen. I paid for my own things from the second I was able to. I paid for school all on my own. My apartment. My car. I paid for my wedding and honeymoon. He paid for food and roof over my head which is the bare minimum he could have done. Don’t tell me he provided for me. He fucking hated me.”
“Because you’re not his,” she said. You and your mom looked at one another, TJ blinking where he stood. “Rick isn’t your father.”
“Excuse me?”
“I cheated on your father because he can be an asshole and I needed an escape. He found out when I was pregnant.”
“Excuse me?” asked TJ again.
“He never wanted children because he thought he’d be a bad father. I guess he was right in your mind,” she said.
“If you’re gonna tell the story, you might as well tell the whole thing,” said Rick. He stepped out from down the hall, TJ’s mom sighing.
“So you are here,” said TJ.
“Car’s in the shop,” he said.
“You hate me?”
“I love you. It doesn’t mean I’m a good person though,” he said.
“You stole from us.”
“Yes I did.”
“Why?”
“This house is the size of your living room. You have so much.”
“If you wanted money just fucking ask,” said TJ.
“Like I said, just cause I love you doesn’t mean I’m a good person.”
“You’re not even my father apparently.”
“I’m your father,” he said. “Didn’t make ya but I’m your father.”
“What’s the story?” asked your mom. They all looked to her and she looked at TJ’s mom. “What don’t we know.”
“You ever wonder how someone like me wound up with someone like your mother? We’re polar opposites most days,” said Rick. TJ narrowed his eyes and looked between them.
“Don’t tell him,” said his mom.
“Alright,” said Rick. “I must have been mistaken.”
“TJ, can I talk to you,” you said, pulling him into the kitchen. “TJ do you remember in family studies when we had that project to track our family trees and you found your parents marriage certificate and the year was wrong?”
“Y/N what’s that got to do with anything.”
“What if the year wasn’t wrong.”
“It can’t be. They would have gotten married after I was born then.”
“TJ I’m not saying your dad is great but he just lied for your mom. He loves her. Something happened before you were born or after. I have this feeling that she didn’t cheat on him.”
“What are you saying?”
“Maybe I’m wrong but maybe your mom was in a bad situation and Rick stepped in to help because of her.”
“Rick,” said TJ, very quickly exiting back to the family room. “When did you meet my mom. If you ever want to speak to me again, if you want me to speak to her again, you’ll tell me the truth.”
Rick glanced to TJ’s mom, TJ smirking.
“You do care about her.”
“Of course I fucking care about her. I care about you too.”
“That’s great. I feel very cared for,” said TJ. Rick pursed his lips and his mom nodded. “Truth or I walk out that door and never come back.”
“I was married,” said TJ’s mom. “He was charming until he wasn’t. I got pregnant with you and you were born and he would get so angry at you for being a simple baby and crying and...I was so scared of him hurting you that I left. I had nothing and I stayed with a friend for a few days. I met Rick through them and he offered us a safe place to stay with him. It was only supposed to be short term but things developed. He is not perfect but he’s not the monster you think he is. We are safe and the reason you have all you do well and truly is because of him.”
“Do you have anything to say?” asked TJ quietly.
“I loved your mother before I loved you, that’s true. But I learned and I’ve done my best. You were far better off without me in your life. Look at what you have. You’d be angry and bitter if I had more of a hand in raising you. So you can hate me but you do not hurt your mother like that. You do not walk away from her after everything she has done for you. Understand me?”
“I need space from you,” said TJ, Rick nodding. “I also need something else.”
“What?”
“I still don’t understand why you took the money if you weren’t going to spend it.”
“Was gonna impress you, turn a profit on it, give it back with interest. Be like her father, give you some money for once.”
“Jensen doesn’t impress me because of money. Yes, their family doesn’t have to think twice about the cost of most anything. But Jensen, De, they don’t impress me for any reason other than how kind they’ve been to me. They treat me like their son, like I’m their own. They don’t pretend to. They don’t tolerate me for Y/N. They genuinely care about me, all because I fell in love with their daughter, a girl that’s not even theirs and they love her to death. The house is nice. The wedding was nice and so are the vacations. But I could live in a cardboard box and be happy if all I ever got was their kindness. They never made me work for it. They just gave it to me. You could have just given it to me and I would have been a happier kid. But you didn’t and now you have to work for it on my terms. So I want our money back and I want some space from you. If and when I’m ready to talk to you again, I’ll reach out. Alright?”
“Okay,” he said. TJ crossed his arms and nodded before he went outside. His mom followed after and you gave Rick a look. He pulled out his phone and tapped on it for a few moments before shoving it in his pocket. “It says it’s pending for that big of a transfer. It should be back in your account in a few days.”
“Oh I’ll make sure of that,” you said, walking over to him. “Rick. Maybe try some therapy if you really want to salvage this relationship.”
“You think I can afford that?” he said.
“We’ll pay,” said your mom. “Jensen and I will.”
“Why?”
“Cause he’s a fucking awesome kid and he deserves a relationship with you, even if we don’t like you,” she said.
“What about you? You hate me too kid?” he asked you.
“I can learn to tolerate and respect you. But you hurt him and I’ll protect him from anyone that does that, including you. But it’s not my forgiveness you need. It’s his so maybe try the therapy and let him come back if he’s ever ready for that, okay?”
“Alright.” You turned to go when he caught your shoulder. “Can I ask where the money came from? Jensen made it sound like you were behind on bills.”
“It made things tight for us. TJ and I have both been working side jobs nights and weekends to scrounge up extra money. We weren’t handed any of that money we gave you. We even took from ourselves and our children. Just because we live in a nice house doesn’t mean we don’t work for it,” you said. “Oh and one more thing. Touch my father again or call my mom slutty behind her back one more time, you’ll find out which one of us isn’t the good person in this relationship.”
“He what…” said your mom as you walked out, pulling her along behind you. “Dickhead!”
“Come on mom,” you said, pushing her back to the car. TJ gave his mom a nod and hug before he climbed back into the backseat.
“Slut my ass,” your mom mumbled under breath as she started the car back up.
“Mom, let it go,” you said, shutting your eyes and slumping down in your seat.
“Put on your seatbelt,” she said. You reached up and put it on, turning back to catch TJ with his head leaned back. “You okay back there?”
“I don’t know,” he said.
“That’s probably the right answer,” you said.
“Let’s get back to dad. I’m sure he’s climbing the walls to get out of there by now.”
Two Days Later
“Howdy,” said your dad, taking a seat in the patio chair beside you as you watched TJ swim in your pool with Allie. “Where’s the babe?”
“Naptime,” you said, TJ tossing Allie up in the air and hugging her tight when he caught her again.
“How’s he holding up?” he asked, reaching over and taking a chip out of the bag in front of you.
“Better than expected. He’ll give Rick another chance someday.”
“He said that?”
“No. I know Thomas though. He’s too good to hold onto that crap. It might not be for six months or a year but it’ll happen eventually.”
“Well I think he’s a dick,” said your dad. “But if TJ wants to give him a chance, we’ll give him a chance.”
“Thanks for being his dad too,” you said.
“I love the kid,” he said, throwing his arm over your shoulders. “So what are you two gonna do with all that money?”
“Pay off the last of the lawyer fees, pay off a big chunk of what’s left on the mortgage. When that set design comes in then we won’t owe too much more on the house,” you said. “Speaking of which, I gotta go to work on it.”
“Y/N? Use some of that money and take a nice vacation with the kids. Or even just a long weekend away for you and TJ.”
“We really ought to use it for stuff like the house,” you said.
“Have you and TJ ever taken a vacation just the two of you?”
“Of course. We went on our honeymoon.”
“That doesn’t count. The answer’s no, isn’t it.”
“Dad, I don’t need-”
“Maybe you don’t but somebody in that pool needs to have some fun. Plan a little trip away next month,” he said.
“He’s always wanted to go to Mardi Gras,” you said with a smile.
“You guys would have a blast and I got some pull down there and all. Come on. Let me spoil my grandkids for a weekend.”
“Alright, alright. You’ve convinced me,” you said.
“You mind if the twins have dinner with you guys?”
“We’re actually going to the Pads for dinner. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind more though. You got a hot date?”
“Getting a private college tour with mom and JJ,” he said. “Ya’ll can stop growing up anytime you want you know.”
“She wants to live at home you know.”
“Really?”
“Contrary to her teenage angst as of late, she does love us. Just you know, drop the curfew like you did with me.”
“And we get texts when you stay out.”
“That’s what you thought,” you mumbled. He raised an eyebrow and you shrugged. “I let you know when I wouldn’t be home that night. You didn’t need to know my exact whereabouts.”
“When’s the first time you stayed over TJ’s?”
“Fall of Freshman year in his dorm,” you said.
“Never mind. I don’t need to know,” he said.
“Yup. Let her have fun when she gets there, she’s smart,” you said. “Plus you know she’ll call me if shit happens. Also she has a year and a half of high school left. Relax.”
“At least I know Tom will keep an eye on her too.”
“Already planning the wedding?” you smirked.
“Shut up,” he said, ruffling your hair. “Make sure he gets this.”
He dug into his back pocket and took out an envelope, handing it to you.
“Thanks,” you said quietly. “Dad?”
“Mhm,” he said as he stood.
“Can you invite him on your fishing trip this weekend with grandpa?”
“Already did,” he said, nodding down at the envelope. “I’ll talk to you soon, tall munchkin.”
“Later dad,” you said, TJ giving him a wave as he headed out. You left the letter on the patio table and went over to the pool, slipping into the shallow end.
“Everything good?” he asked.
“Yeah. My dad left you a letter,” you said, Allie swimming off on her own, doing circles around TJ. He nodded and got out of the pool, drying off some before he went to the table and sat down. “Time for a snack.”
You scooped her up and swung her around in the water, throwing her up your hip. You walked out with her, setting her down to dry her off some.
“Is daddy okay?” she asked.
“Yeah,” you said. “Why don’t you change back into some clothes and we’ll get Colin and snack time going.”
She rushed over to TJ and smiled up at him, TJ tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Daddy snack time!” she said.
“I’ll be inside in just a minute, sweetie,” he said. He leaned over and kissed her head, pushing her back towards you. You patted her inside, TJ rubbing his thumb over his lip as he read.
“Take your time, babe,” you said. You kissed his cheek and he nodded. “I’ll leave some tissues just inside the door in case.”
“Thanks,” he said. “Give me five minutes and I’ll be there.”
“Take all the time you need. I got these two,” you said. He nodded and smiled. “Love you.”
“Love you too, Y/N.”

The Sommelier (Hannigram x Female!Reader) pt. 17
Hannibal teaches y/n a useful skill.
@dovahdokren @lov3vivian @deadman-inc-bikeshop
Trigger warnings: use of firearms, discussion of firearms, violence
“So where are we off to next?” You asked, following Will around the office. “Are we questioning this Rachel woman, or are we going straight to the church?”
Will sighed. “Jack and I are going to the church. I’m calling Hannibal to come pick you up.”
“What?” You spat in utter disbelief. “What the hell happened to taking him down together?”
“You’ve already been more help than we could ask for.” Will explained. “This is the end of the line for you. We--”
He cleared his throat and looked down. “I can’t bear to see you get hurt.”
“That’s sweet and everything, but,” You folded your arms. “You really think someone is going to hurt me in broad daylight in a megachurch?”
“Well, somebody stabbed you in broad daylight in a restaurant, and that person just happened to come from this megachurch.” Will rationalized. “So, yes. I wouldn’t say it’s out of the question.”
“So that’s it, you’re just going to pass me off to Hannibal?” You threw up your arms. “Look, I had enough of this growing up with divorced parents.”
“Angel,” Will soothed, running a gentle hand down your arm. “Please. I’m begging you, think on this for just a minute and try to see why I don’t want you on this particular excursion?”
You thought on it for a minute. “Churches do kind of trigger me.”
“I saw how tense you got when that woman said she’d kicked her daughter out of the house for dating a girl. I understand, dealing with people who remind you of Chase is going to trigger you.” Will whispered. “Have you even taken any time to work on healing?”
“I could say the same to you.” You disputed. “You killed a woman and then came face-to-face with her mother. Why aren’t you trying to work through that?”
“That’s different.” He blurted out. “That’s my job.”
“Sure.” You snipped. “I have to take time to work through my PTSD, but you don’t. Got it.”
“If you go home with Hannibal now, I promise I will...” He hesitated to finish the sentence. “I’ll work on my issues too. Cross my heart.”
“Oh, I will absolutely hold you to that.” You pointed at him. “And I’m telling Hannibal you said that.”
Will immediately regretted making that promise and it was obvious from his expression. “Please don’t.”
“I am absolutely going to do that.” You said, in a way in which he couldn’t tell if you were kidding or not.
Hannibal opened the passenger’s door for you and greeted you with a kiss. He could tell you were feeling off after only a few seconds.
“Why so sad, my indulgence?” He asked, pulling out of the parking lot. “Don’t tell me you enjoy Will’s company more than mine?”
“What? No.” You shook your head. “No way.”
“You can tell me what’s on your mind, love.” He assured you.
You sighed and rested your head on the window. “Will doesn’t want me to help on the investigation anymore.”
“I don’t see why he should.” Hannibal agreed. “You’re tracking down the man who tried to kill you, and he’s tracking down the man who tried to kill his lover. Both of you are far too close to the situation and your mental health will suffer for it. But, in the end, it’s Will’s job.”
“I know.” You conceded.
“That, and,” Hannibal continued. “Will is a trained professional under the supervision of other trained professionals. He’s far less likely to get hurt.”
“I get it.” You groaned and rolled your eyes. “At the end of the day, he’s the action hero and I’m the damsel in distress.”
“Darling,” Hannibal scolded. “You know our situation isn’t so black-and-white. You know the investigation couldn’t have worked without you.”
“I know.” You pouted. “I just wanted the final blow, y’know? I think I deserve to finish the job.”
Hannibal went quiet for a moment. When you came to a stoplight, he turned his gaze to you. “You want to be more proactive in your safety.”
“Would be nice.” You shrugged.
“I wasn’t asking.” Hannibal corrected. “You do want to be more proactive. It’s why you have a firearms license in your wallet and a handgun in your car. It’s also why you were looking up hunting equipment last night while you were on the phone with Freddie Lounds.”
You swallowed. Every word in the English language escaped you. He was right. You never saw the appeal of guns until you lived alone. Even though a "gun owner" was technically what you were, you didn't want to associate yourself with the jingoistic, hyper-masculine culture affixed to the term. You were just a woman who kept a gun in her car and had all the proper licensing and registration for it. Nothing wrong with that. So why did it have you feeling so defensive?
You lowered your head. “I’m sorry.”
“For?”
“Lying about Freddie Lounds.” You finished. “I don’t know why I felt the need to lie about that, in hindsight-”
“I understand.” Hannibal cut you off. “You were just doing what you felt needed to be done. Will would have done the same.”
He was right again.
“Ambitious of you to select a shotgun as your weapon of choice.” Hannibal observed. “At the risk of sounding like a chauvinist, I have to ask. Do you know how to use one?”
“No.” You admitted. “It was just a power fantasy, I guess. All I know is that you can blast a guy’s head off with one.”
Without a word, Hannibal took an abrupt turn.
“Isn’t your place that way?” You asked, pointing in the opposite direction.
“Do you have your license on you now?” He asked.
“Of course I do, why?”
“Because we’re going to make your power fantasy a reality.” He answered.
Soon enough, you pulled up to a large hunting store with a shooting range attached.
“Go in and pick out something you like.” Hannibal instructed, reaching for his wallet. “I’ll be waiting for you at the range and I can teach you how to use it.”
He offered you one of his shiny metal credit cards. When you didn’t immediately take it, he pushed it closer to you.
“I just got a thousand dollars from Freddie Lounds.” You pushed his hand away. “I can pay for it.”
“You deserve something much nicer than only a thousand dollars can buy you.” Hannibal’s voice hardened.
“So then I’ll buy something more than a thousand dollars and use your credit card to make up the difference.” You offered.
“No.” Hannibal said, sternly. “I will buy you a nice gun and plenty of ammo, and you will save your thousand dollars for when you open your own restaurant.”
“How did you-” You objected.
He cut you off. “Will isn’t very good at keeping secrets, dear. Take it.”
You laughed uncomfortably. “Hannibal, if you don’t put that credit card away I will bite your finger off.”
His thin lips curled into a cunning smile. He offered you his other hand. “Bite away, darling.”
You wordlessly snatched the card from his hand.
“Oh, pity.” Hannibal feigned disappointment. “Did I call your bluff?”
You tucked the card away in your pocket. You leaned in as if you were going to give him a kiss on the cheek, but playfully nipped at his earlobe.
"Remind me to give you a little special attention when the lesson is up." He whispered, his hand clutching your arm.
You made sure to walk away slowly, rolling your hips with every step.
You entered the store, feeling overwhelmed and significantly less confident than you did while shopping for guns online.
An employee approached you. You mentally prepared yourself for whatever sexist comment he was about to hurl at you. But somebody must have taught this particular associate that being a misogynist prick doesn't sell guns.
"Anything I can help you find, ma'am?"
Your mouth ran before your brain. "I'd like to buy a gun, please."
"Well, you've come to the right place." The employee smiled. "What kind of gun are you looking for?"
"A shotgun." You corrected.
"Well, we have plenty of makes and models to choose from." He clapped his hands together and led you to a wall lined with shotguns. "Any specifics in mind?"
"I guess I just want something simple enough to use." You scratched the back of your head. "My boyfriend is taking me skeet shooting this weekend so I don't have time to learn all the complicated mechanics."
"So skeet?" The man put his hands down on the counter and looked deep in thought. He turned around and pulled one off the shelf. "I'd recommend this CZ over-under. It's a good place to start."
He offered it to you. Your eyes widened and your first instinct was to refuse.
He looked at you with confusion. "How are you gonna shoot anything if you don't hold it?"
You shook off your nerves and took the gun in your hands. It was a little heavy, and tilted near the stock. You looked at it as if it were a beautiful but deadly venomous tropical snake.
"Over-under's are the working man's shotgun." The employee said. "Or, woman, as it were."
You held it up to your shoulder like you saw in movies and felt a strange rush of exhilaration pulsing through your body.
"It's nice, right?" He asked. "And you can get to the trigger okay?"
"I'll take it." You said. "And some bullets, please."
"Now we're cooking with gas." He answered, a big smile on his face. "Let's get you rung up."
The fact that he didn't even stop to notice that the name on your license didn't match the name on the credit card only emphasized your country's need for stricter gun control laws. Even if the lack of such laws benefitted you in that moment, the ease of the process killed you a little.
The total came up to just under a thousand dollars. You couldn't bring yourself to spend more than you planned to, even if it was Hannibal's treat. You already felt weird about using Hannibal's money, let alone so much of it.
The employee saw you out with a friendly "happy skeeting" and you set off to meet Hannibal at the range.
"There you are, love." He greeted you. He had removed his suit coat and tie, and rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt up to his elbows.
For a split second, you completely forgot about the gun and were overtaken by the need to fuck him. You quickly regained control of yourself. "Yeah. I found something."
"I should hope so." He said, beckoning to you from the stall. "Come now. Let me show you what to do."
You stood in front of the booth, ears and eyes protected. At the end of the long booth was a paper target. Hannibal positioned himself behind you. He took your hand in his and guided it to the stock wrist.
"Wrap your fingers around here, like this." He instructed, his dark, accented voice shaking you to your core. "Now extend your finger to reach the trigger. Yes, that's it."
"Now place your other hand on the fore-end and hold the end of the stock against your shoulder."
The way he shaped your body, positioned your limbs felt almost alarmingly natural. He wasn't just indulging your power fantasy, he was directing it.
"Cheek against the stock, love." He instructed. "The gun is an extention of you. You must hold it firmly and give it support. You move with it, it moves with you."
He rummaged through the shopping bag and pulled out a package of shells. "Are you ready to shoot it, darling?"
"I think I should probably load it first." You said, nervously.
"Well that should take us no time at all." Hannibal approached with two 12 gauge shotshells. "Go ahead and engage the break lever right at the edge of the barrel."
When the gun suddenly bent in half, your first thought was that you'd broken it. Hannibal handed you the two shells and watched you timidly slide one into each barrel.
You felt yourself shaking and your palms were damp with sweat. You swallowed. "I don't know if I can do this."
"Were you afraid the first time you drove a car?" Hannibal raised an eyebrow.
"Cripplingly." You nodded. "I was so scared I didn't take my foot off the brake the whole time."
"But now driving comes just as naturally to you as walking." Hannibal smiled comfortingly. He placed his hands over yours and returned you to the shooting position. On one side, the cold stock rested against your cheekbone. On the other, Hannibal's hot breath grazed against your skin. "It just takes some getting used to."
Your finger squeezed the trigger and the massive projectile exploded from the gun. The stock pushed back into your shoulder, making you stumble backwards into Hannibal.
"Holy shit!" You exclaimed. "That's got some serious recoil. Is it supposed to do that?"
Hannibal chuckled and took a step back, giving you a little space. "Yes, darling. Now go ahead and fire off the next shot."
Your eyes widened. "Okay."
"Remember, you move with the gun, you don't fight the gun." He instructed. "It's more afraid of you than you are of it."
You squeezed the trigger again, this time fully expecting the recoil. The shot fired, and this time it hit the target.
You hopped in delight. "Holy shit I actually got one!"
"All it takes is a little getting used to." Hannibal stroked your hair. "Now unload the shotgun shells and let's go again."

Pick Up
Tumblr media
Pairings: (Kuroo Tetsurou x Fem!Reader)
Word Count: 2.0K
Warning(s): Cursing, Audacity
Summary: The first time you pick up your daughter from daycare leads to a misunderstanding between you and the staff.
A/N: (DN) = Daughter's Name
----------
"Can we go get ice cream when you pick me up, daddy?" Your daughter asked, kicking her little legs against the booster seat that kept her small body in place in the car.
Kuroo chuckled. Of course, the child was already looking forward to a sweet treat after school. "You're going to have to ask mommy princess; she's picking you up today."
"Mommy's picking me up?" (DN) perked up at the thought, removing her gaze from the window and to the back of her father's head.
"Mhm," Kuroo mumbled lightly. "I have to go on another business trip, so mommy's bringing you to daycare and back home all week," your husband explained thoroughly.
"Yes!" (DN) exclaimed, obviously excited for the change of events. Kuroo was usually the one to take her to and from school, for it fit better with his work schedule than your own.
"You're not going to miss me?" asked Kuroo, feigning hurt, as he looked between his daughter in the car's rear-view mirror and the road.
"I'll miss you, daddy, but mommy never picked me up from school before! I want her to meet all my friends and teachers, and she can see where we play," Your daughter began to ramble about all the things she was excited to show you, all the way until the two had reached her daycare.
Kuroo helped the child from her booster seat and then the car, taking her small hand into his significantly larger one.
"Alright, sweetheart. I'll call you for bed, okay," Your husband said once inside the building, down on one knee to be eye level with his child.
"Okay, daddy. Bye, I love you," (DN) said, grabbing her father's face with her small hands and placing a kiss on his forehead, an action she picked up from exchanges between you and your husband.
Kuroo smiled, reciprocating the action, his big hands taking up almost all of her face. "I love you too, kiddo."
As a worker took the girl to her class, Kuroo called out to her one last time, "Be good!"
"Yes, sir!" your daughter yelled back, turning around to wave her father goodbye.
Kuroo stood, ridding his suit of any dirt that may have stuck to him while he was on his knee. He was about to leave when someone spoke up to catch his attention.
"You're very good with her," said one of the workers. Kuroo often saw her when dropping off or picking up your daughter. They made small talk now and then, but he couldn't even remember the poor lady's name.
"I would hope so," Kuroo chuckled awkwardly, not sure how to respond to the supposed compliment.
The worker laughed back, almost too much in Kuroo's opinion considering the remark wasn't very funny.
"Yeah, I respect you for taking such good care of her, especially since," The woman began but was interrupted by the ringing of Kuroo's phone, a unique ringtone he had in place just for you.
As soon as he heard the tone, Kuroo didn't hear the rest of what the employee had to say. Unbeknownst to him, it was about him being a single father, which wasn't true by any means.
"Yeah, babe?" Kuroo answered, turning to leave the building, completely forgetting the previous conversation, too excited about hearing your voice.
"Bye, Mr.Kuroo!" shouted the lady, trying one last desperate attempt to get his attention.
He gave a simple wave of his hand back before leaving the building entirely.
"Who was that?" You questioned, hearing the voice even through the phone.
"One of the workers at (DN)'s school," Kuroo explained, uninterested. "How are you this morning, my love?" he asked, changing the subject to something he was actually interested in, you.
"Babe, let me tell you!" You exclaimed, getting ready to rant about your morning thus far, causing Kuroo to chuckle.
The rest of your day went off without too many more hiccups. You met Kuroo for lunch just before he left for his business trip. There you gave final goodbyes to your dismay, but you knew you would see him soon.
After work, you headed to your daughter's daycare, excited to see her cute little face again. Once there, you parked and headed inside to a front desk as Kuroo instructed.
"Hi, how are you?" asked an employee as soon as you reached the desk.
"I'm alright, and you?"
"I'm well. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Yes, I'm here to pick up (DN)," You stated using the sign-out sheet Kuroo had also instructed you to do.
"Kuroo (DN)?" The worker clarified, verifying your name after you completed the sheet.
"That's her," you smiled at the mention of her name.
"Of course, I'll get her right away."
"Thank you," you said politely to the retreating employee. As you waited, you pulled out your phone, seeing a picture from Kuroo looking bored in a meeting. Grinning to yourself, you replied with some words of encouragement.
"Are you her nanny?" asked a sudden voice. You looked up to see it was the other worker who was at the desk. You hadn't paid much attention to her since she didn't address you when you first arrived.
"I'm sorry?"
The woman asked again, "Are you (DN)'s nanny?"
"Ha no, I'm her mother," You replied, thinking it was funny that she thought so. Looking back to your phone, you were about to send a joking text to Kuroo about being the 'nanny', not finding a reason to continue the conversation.
Unfortunately for you, the woman continued it anyway, "You're her mother?" questioned the worker skeptically.
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
"Am I sure I'm her mother?" You asked, voice rising in volume slightly, almost appalled she would ask such a thing. The employee nodded, not daring to ask you again. "I'm pretty sure, considering I've raised her since she was born. Would you like to see her birth certificate?" You challenged.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but I'm going to have to call Mr.Kuroo just to verify," said the woman picking up the phone before you could even say anything.
"Mr.Kuroo? You mean my husband."
"Your husband?"
"Yes, my husband. (DN)'s father," You simplified, hoping the words would sink into her seemingly thick skull.
"Yes, hello?" Kuroo answered the phone, confused. He had (DN)'s school saved in his phone, but they never called him before.
"Hi, Mr.Kurro, I'm sorry to bother you. I know you're a busy man," the woman said apologetically, her tone and demeanor changing as soon as Kuroo answered the phone. She even had the gall to twirl the phone cord like a lovesick teenager. It made your blood boil. "I just wanted to let you know there is a woman here claiming to be (DN)'s mother."
"That's my wife," Kuroo answered easily, knowing you were heading to the daycare straight after work. "Is there a problem?"
The worker was a bit stunned, her view of the man changing instantly, she didn't know he was married, how embarrassing. "No sir, not at all," She replied, stuttering out a bit towards the beginning.
"Good. Please refer any further calls or concerns to my wife, please," Kuroo said before immediately hanging up the phone, needing to get back to his meeting.
"Yes, sir," the employee responded despite the lack of your husband on the call.
The woman looked up to you, mouth slightly ajar as if she was about to say something, but nothing passed her lips. Before she could say anything, hopefully, apologize for her behavior (DN) made her appearance.
"Mommy!" exclaimed your daughter's voice as soon as she saw you. Leaving the grasp of the other, more likable employee, she ran towards you, wrapping her small arms around both your legs.
"Hi, sweetheart!" You exclaimed, matching the child's energy, sinking to her level to wrap her in your arms. "How was your day?" You questioned, taking the time to glare at the lady who dared to question your role in your daughter's life.
"It was great! I went outside with my friends, and we read that book that you and daddy read me at bedtime." said the girl. "I even got to point at the pictures for the rest of the class."
"That sounds lovely, baby." You said, standing up and taking your daughter's hand. "Why don't you tell me the rest on the way home?"
"Can we stop for ice cream?"
"Did you get a green sticker today?" You asked, walking towards the exit of the building.
"I got gold!" Your daughter corrected the pride evident in her voice.
"Whoa, a gold! I think that calls for extra toppings."
"Yes!"
In a sickly sweet tone, you turned back to the unkind worker and said, "You have a good day."
You spent the rest of your day spending time with your daughter. After getting ice cream, you two went to the park for a bit and then home to get her cleaned up and ready for dinner. You cooked a meal both of you enjoyed to cheer you up and keep (DN)'s spirits high, though that was rarely a problem.
At bedtime, Kuroo called as promised and listened to your daughter rave about her day. You two read her to sleep, per usual.
Now it was just you and your husband, and now you were ready to talk about the altercation at the daycare. You had filled your husband in a bit via text, but it was nothing like a good old rant.
"It was fucking ridiculous! She's my daughter!" You yelled, pacing the large room you and Kuroo shared."I shouldn't have to explain myself to her. Who does she think she is?"
"I know, darling I think she was just trying to make sure you weren't trying to abduct a child," Kuroo tried to reason to calm you down.
"Bullshit. The other worker verified me. I'm on the emergency contacts list. They have my picture!" You explained, listing off the reasons why what the worker did was disrespectful and honestly unprofessional.
"Do you know what I think it is?" You rhetorically asked.
"What's that, love?"
"I think she likes you. She was obviously flirting during that call earlier."
Kuroo, genuinely not knowing this information asked, "Was she?"
"Yes! Blatantly so. She wasn't even trying to hide it, and I was right in front of her. Me! Your wife!" You shouted, trying to piece together what the woman was thinking, but it was honestly giving you a slight headache. "Did she not see the ring on my finger? The ring on your finger? The audacity of that bit-"
"Alright, alright, hey, calm down."
"Uh, it's just so upsetting," You said, mood going from anger to dejected. "Am I not in (DN)'s life enough? Do I need to do more?"
Kuroo sat up in his chair, staring at the phone as if he could see you. He should've video called you instead. "Hey, don't talk like that; you do plenty," Kuroo said firmly. "I just so happen to be the one who drops her off and picks her up. That's just how our schedules work. We're both busy, love."
"I know. You're right," You agreed, not being able to deny how busy you two are. "Maybe I should start doing drop off or pick up," You suggested. "I'm her mother, and they need to know that."
"I'm sure they do by now," Kuroo teased. "We'll talk more about this when I get home, okay."
You groaned, realizing he wouldn't be home until the end of the week."Can't you come home now?" I need you after such a rough day."
"I wish I could. I do," Kuroo said sadly. He really did wish he could be there for you right now. He'd prefer being in bed with you over some hotel room any day. "You know I'll be back as soon as I can."
"Yeah, I know."
You two sat in silence for a bit, both of you too tired to carry out much of a conversation. However, just the knowledge that both of you were on the phone was enough.
After a while, Kuroo spoke up."Go get you some beauty sleep," he said, knowing you would need the rest. "I'll call you in the morning."
"Fine," You sighed. "I love you."
"I love you too."

A/N: Thank you all so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed reading this imagine as much as I enjoyed writing it. This was so much longer than I originally intended but I won’t complain because I love how it turned out in the end. And honestly there’s no such thing as too much Kuroo. Before All I Heard Was Silence by moonqueerdom (T | 7,430 | 1/1)
Allison's eyes widened and her face burned immediately, spreading to her neck and the tips of her ears. "Oh my gosh, Renee," she lowered her face and covered it with her hands.
Renee chuckled. "She is beautiful when she blushes, ok noted."
"Oh my gosh, Walker, stop that," Allison's voice was too wobbly and high-pitched even for her own ears, and there was a grin threatening to pop on her lips.
~
About to disappear in the afterlife, Allison Reynolds meets Renee Walker, who was ready to change her life even after death.
Last Café by uberimmortal (M | 4,802 | 1/1)
Like every weekend for the past year, Renee finds herself on a Saturday morning in front of the Last Cafe. She takes a deep breath, key still in her hand, shivering from the autumn breeze as she tries to muster up some energy to open the door. The sun is just beginning to poke over the horizon, lighting up the city in a blue haze, not close enough to this side of the earth to provide any real warmth. One by one street lamps flicker until they turn off completely.
The Gracekeepers by wishbonetea (M | 112,116 | 20/20)
The sea has flooded the earth. Allison lives on a circus boat, floating between the scattered islands that remain and trading dazzling and death-defying feats for food from the islanders. Renee lives alone in a lighthouse in the middle of the ocean, with only the birds and fish for company. As penance for her past, she works as a gracekeeper, tending the graves of those who die at sea. A storm brings them together, but under clear skies they must part. When one of the Foxes goes missing, Renee joins to help. It’s meant to be a temporary escape, but Allison might be a reason to stay.
An AU of Kirsty Logan's The Gracekeepers.
she's got lips like wine not sugar by IzzyAguecheek (Not Rated | 8,561 | 1/1)
The coffee shop was mostly empty the first time Allison came in. It was too early for most people, specially on a Sunday, when most people didn’t have work and therefore didn’t need to stop by to grab a coffee to wake up. Allison, however, didn’t strike Renee as the type of girl to drink coffee before a shift at some boring company. She looked more like someone who had stayed up all night and now was trying to fight off a hangover with caffeine.
Dan was late, per usual, so Renee and Andrew were the only employees working. Andrew took one look at the car parked outside, right in front of the window, and firmly turned his back on the girl sitting at the corner booth.
“You take that one”, he decided.
(or: Renee works at a coffee shop, and, when Allison becomes a regular there, she is absolutely in love. It's just a Renison Coffee Shop AU.)

RECORDED 04:08, PILGRIMAGE YEAR 1584 DAY 29
[begin message]
Hey, Mom. You’re probably watching this and thinking about how much you want to kick my ass right now. Well, my butt, because you don’t say words like “ass,” much less think them. Anyway, I know you’re mad at me. I’m the ungrateful daughter who hijacked an emergency pod and zipped off into space in the middle of the eclipse service like a dumbass—sorry, dumbbutt—with another girl because I just had to go and open myself to the spirit of lesbianism. I’m not gonna lie, I’m mad just like you are. Part of me wants to just say that the spirit is a good fucking time and be on my way. But I need you need to know that I’m losing something, too.
A sci-fi one shot: Allison leaves a final message for her mother after she and Renee escape the generation ship they grew up on.
On Dragon's Wings (Under the Blue) by tinystreetlamp  (T | 8,417 | 3/3)
For hundreds of years the six kingdoms coexisted in peace due to a magical contract that prevents violence between them. Ever since Allison's brother Jean was kidnapped by Riko she has wanted to lead her armies to war against the Island of Night, but the contract prevents her from doing so. When crown prince Nathaniel arrives and asks for sanctuary, Allison sees her chance to unite four of the kingdoms against Riko and rain down her vengeance upon him.

Renee was silent for a while. Then, finally, she said, “I want to try going outside.”
“I thought you were scared.”
She hummed her assent. “That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do it.”
Since that was basically the philosophy Allison lived by, she nodded. Renee turned back around and met Allison’s gaze. In that moment, Renee looked unbreakable and unshakeable, like nothing that ended up in her way could ever stop her for long. Allison shivered.
Love You a Latte by ceilingfan5 (G | 8,465 | 1/1)
Allison's favorite barista is adorable Renee, so when she gets the news that she has to go on a terrible family vacation and bring an "appropriate plus-one", she decides to finally get herself uninvited from the rest of those events for all eternity. She and Renee go together, pretending to be a very much in love couple, stir shit up, and leave a lot closer than they ever expected. (Obviously they fall in love.) Allison may say "I decided love was fake a long time ago and it’d take a miracle to change my mind now,” but if anyone can be a miracle worker, it's Renee.
say you'll never harden to the world by orphan_account (T | 10,300 | 1/1)
Of course it’s when the knife finally doesn’t feel awkward in her hand anymore that Allison shows up.
Instead of the relaxed way she usually holds her wings, they’re pulled taut behind her back. Her arms are crossed in front of her chest and there’s a decidedly not pleased look on her face.
“Hey,” Natalie says, not interrupting the sequence of stabbing moves she’s been practicing. She has no time for the way seeing Allison makes her feel.
Safe – a joke. Not alone – Allison might not even be real. Cared about – impossible.
Those kinds of emotions aren’t meant for someone like her in the first place, and she’s not going to indulge them.

Renee had always thought of hope as a feeling, something she scraped out of her insides when she had nothing else to hold onto, but over the past months, hope had ceased to be a feeling and had become synonymous with Allison Reynolds.

Leo's POV
𝗜 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗨𝗣 the shop today since one of my regular employees was out sick today. Walking behind the counter, I grabbed the clipboard and checked the appointments I had coming in today. The first appointment I had coming in was a woman who said her brakes squeak every time she steps on them. As I got everything ready in the shop's back, I heard the front entrance bell ding, and I walked out to see Kai.
"Wassup Kai, how was your vacation?" I asked, shaking her hand before pulling her into a hug.
"Man, I'm good. As far as my vacation, I spent most of my time in the room." Kai replied, rubbing her hands together.
I laughed, knowing what she was saying. "Okay, I see you."
"What's the deal today?" She asked, sitting on a chair in the lobby. "How is everybody?"
"I have a couple of appointments coming in," I answered, leaning against the counter. "Well, Marcos came home two days ago."
"Oh, fuck I forgot about that. How is Marcos anyway?" Kai asked, laughing.
"He's good." I nodded. "Got a new girlfriend but didn't like the fact that Destini has Kareem around his daughter."
"Does he understand that he's been there for her more than he has?" She asked, tilting her head confused.
"Exactly, but you can't tell Marcos that," I answered, nodding my head as I shrugged.
"How is Destini handling it?" Kai asked me as I walked behind the counter.
"Well, she's allowing Alayah to see him but not letting him take her out yet if that makes sense," I replied, shrugging. "She's not used to him yet, I guess."
"I mean, he missed two years of her life. The only father figure she knows is Kareem." I pointed out.
"Exactly." I nodded, glancing up seeing a red 2018 Ford Mustang GT pull up.
"Your first appointment?" Kai asked, looking out the window.
"Must be her," I answered, nodding as I watched my first client step out of her car.
The girl that stepped out of the car was sexy as hell with a cute face, nice pair of breasts, a flat stomach, and a nice booty, but my girl was way thicker than her. My client walks in, and immediately Kai's eyes go wide.
"Damn, she bad." She mouthed, making me shake my head.
"Are you Leo?" The woman asks me
"Yea, that's me. What can I help you with?" I said, nodding my head.
"I'm Maya, and I made an appointment about my brakes squeaking when I press on them." The woman says, introducing herself.
"Alright, pull into garage two, and I'll take a look," I told her, and she nodded.
As she turns and walks out to her car, I look down and stare at her ass. It looked good. I'll tell you that.
"Damn shorty a lil baddie." Kai laughs looking out the window.
"Aren't you in a relationship?" I asked Kai narrowing my eyes at her.
"And aren't you engaged?" She asked, lifting her chin in confidence.
"Touché." I nodded, defeated.
Walking out to the garage, I opened door two and let Maya pull in. As she pressed down on the brakes, I could hear her brakes grinding.
"Do you hear it?" My client asked out the window.
"I hear it. Can you pop the hood for me?" I answered, nodding.
The car stops, and she pops the hood of the car open. The woman gets out of the car and walks up to me.
"Do you know what the problem is?" She asked me, hands on her hips.
"It sounds like your brakes. That only means your pads need to be replaced along with the discs if those are no good too." I explained.
"So, you're able to fix them?" She asked, concerned.
"Yea, I'll fix them," I tell her nodding.
"Well, thank you so much." Maya praises happily.
Once she went inside, I got to work on her car. About an hour passed, and I was all finished with her vehicle. I wiped my hands on an old rag and walked inside the lobby.
"It's all fixed," I said, making the woman look up.
"Wow. It only took an hour and a half?" She gasped, mouth gaping in shock.
"Yup, all done." I nodded, smiling politely.
"How much?" The lady asked, already opening her purse.
"One hundred fifty," I said, and she nodded.
Maya hands me the money and walks back out to her car. Looking at Kai, we both have the same expression on our faces.
"Only if I wasn't in a committed relationship with a psycho," Kai said after some time of silence.
"I think you forgot both of our girls are psycho." I reminded him, laughing.
"Yea, Za'Niyah told me if I ever cheated on her, she'll kidnap the girl and me, tie us up in a warehouse, and kill her slowly in front of me," Kai explains to me.
"Erika told me if I cheat on her again, she will chop my dick off in my sleep and shove it down my throat," I said, sitting on one of the stools behind the counter.
"Yo, you better watch out and sleep with one eye open," Kai tells me, nodding her head.
"You don't think I do?" I questioned, laughing at the idea.
"How do we end up with psychos?" Kai questions, laughing.
"Man, I don't know," I replied, shrugging.
As time passed, more and more customers came in seeking help for their cars. Soon lunch came around, and I was starving. I forgot to bring lunch like I usually do. Pulling out my phone, I decided to text Erika to see if she could get me something to eat.
Babe, can you bring me something to eat?
Erika💋💍❤️ - Why didn't you take some food with you?
I forgot.
Erika💋💍❤️ - You always "forget" to bring food. What do you want?
Chinese food.
Erika💋💍❤️ - You want chow Mein, fried rice, teriyaki chicken, and orange chicken with a large Sprite.
You know me so well.
Erika💋💍❤️ - Mhmm, see you in a bit.
Love you too.
With a smile on my face, I stuck my phone in my pocket and greeted my next customer.
"What can I help you with?" I asked the young boy who looked to be around.
"When I drive, my steering wheel doesn't recenter as it should." He explained, and I nodded, already knowing what the problem was.
If I am correct, all he needs is a wheel alignment. "Take me to your car, and let's take a look."
Following behind the boy, he led me to his white 2019 Honda Accord, and I got in and pulled his car into the garage. As I turned the wheel right, I watched as it didn't recenter as it should have. I pulled it onto the platform then got out, closing th3e door behind me.
"What's the problem?" He asked, folding his arms.
"All you need is a wheel alignment," I said to the boy, and he nodded.
"How long will that take?" He asked, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"Fifteen to thirty minutes. Thirty-five at the most." I replied, and he nodded.
The boy walked into the waiting area inside while I got started on his car. Raising the platform, I first started by checking the pressure in all four tires. Second, I checked the car manual for the specific vehicle and wrote it down. After that, everything else was a breeze. It took exactly thirty minutes to realign the wheels.
Once I was all done, I drove the car back out to the parking lot. After parking the car, I went inside and got his attention. I gave him the rundown on what I did to fix his car and told him how much it would be. The boy paid me, then got in his car and left. Right, when he pulls out of the driveway, I see Erika's white 2019 Chevy Malibu LTZ pull up, and instantly a smile came to my face. As she stepped out of the car, my employees stopped what they were doing and stared at her.
"Get back to fucking work!" I ordered them, and they scattered like ants.
"You're lucky I love you, or else you wouldn't get shit from me." My fiancé said, rolling her eyes in irritation.
I smiled, wrapping my arms around her waist as I leaned down and kissed her juicy lips. "I love you too, and thank you."
"You owe me for this." She said as her face started to hold a mischievous grin.
"I got you when I get home." I smiled, already knowing what she wanted.
"Mhmm." She pursed her lips and rolled her eyes.
"Where are you going dressed like this?" I asked, scanning her outfit.
"Out to eat with Destini and Niyah," Erika answers, nodding her head.
"Why dressed like this, tho? You look so good." I said, biting my bottom lip.
"Don't start that shit." She rolls her eyes, sighing in annoyance. "I have to go."
"Okay, bye." I smiled.
Laughing, I leaned down and kissed Erika's lips again, then smacked her ass as she got back in her car and drove away. I made my way inside and behind the counter to my office and started eating my lunch. Once lunch was over, I left my office and got back to work.
• 7:00 PM •
After I made sure to have the garage doors were down, I locked the office door behind me before walking to my car.
"I'll see you later, man," Kai said, getting into her black 2019 Lincoln Continental.
"See you later." I nodded, getting into my car.
Starting my car up, I fastened my seatbelt and drove home. As I walked inside the house, I followed the sound of music to the kitchen; I saw something that would bring any man to his knees.
Why is she trying to kill me? She must want me to break her in half.
My fiancé was standing in front of the stove, cooking in the black and red The Love You Give 3 Piece Set along with the black New Lover Long Robe from Fashionnova.
I would know because I bought it for her three months ago, but she never wore it until now.
Honestly, I think she's asking to be put in the hospital because I want to break her fucking back. She's practically begging for me to put a baby inside of her, and tonight I just might. As I walked up behind Erika, I wrapped my arms around her waist, moved her hair to one side, and kissed the side of her neck. She moans, leaning her head back on my shoulder as I nibbled on the soft spot of her neck.
"Hello, Papa," Erika said, sweetly turning to wrap her arms around my neck.
My hands go down and grip her juicy ass through the sheer robe. "What's with all this?" I smacked Erika on her left ass cheek.
"Well, I decided to make dinner, but I remembered what you told me earlier, and it's been on my mind since then." She smirks, biting onto her bottom lip.
Damn, why does she got to be so cute? She stared at me like she wanted me to rearrange her guts.
"Oh, yea? You decided to surprise me with dessert?" I questioned, smirking as Erika's nasty ass got that lustful look in her eyes.
"Mhmm, just for you." She said, pecking my lips.
Feeling one of her hands move from my neck, down my body, to the front of my pants, I instantly got hard.
"Finish cooking. I'll be waiting." I said, averting my eyes to the stove.
"I'm horny." Erika whines, stomping her feet like a baby. She grabs onto the back of my shirt, staring up at me.
"I know you are," I told my fiancé, nodding.
"But you said you had me when you got home. Now you're home, and you don't have me!" She yelled like a toddler.
"First of all, stop acting like a fucking baby before we have a problem," I demanded, grabbing her face. "And second, finish cooking so you won't burn down the house." I pressed my lips against Erika's, hearing her moan, trying to deepen the kiss. She can't help but submit when I let her know who's in charge.
My fiancé pouts before turning towards the stove to finish cooking. At the same time she did that, I headed upstairs to the room and decided to take a quick shower.
Erika's POV
This muthafucka don't know what he started. Grabbing my face like he's my damn daddy. I got something for his ass. As I finished cooking, I put all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher to be cleaned, put all the food up into containers before turning the lights off. Slowly I made my way upstairs, prolonging the wait because the only thing Leo wanted to do was bust a nut and go to sleep.
Leo is lying on the bed, his hands resting behind his head as I walk into my room, scrolling on his phone. I kicked off my fur slides before crawling on the bed. When I straddled Leo, I snatched his phone from his hands and tossed it at the end of the bed, and he looked at me like I had lost my damn mind.
Which I did because I am so fucking horny. Thinking of the things Leo would do to me, running his hands over my body squeezing my ass in between his fingers.
"What the fuck did I tell you about that shit?" My fiancé questions, squeezing my ass as I grind against him.
"I had to get your attention somehow," I replied, shrugging.
"Oh, you got daddy's attention." He smirks, biting his lip as he raked his eyes over me.
"I can feel him, daddy. What do you want me to do about it?" I moaned, throwing my head back as I peeled off my robe.
"Sit that ass on my face and get to work," Leo demands, licking his lips.
Smiling to myself, I turned around and tooted my add all up in his face. I pull Leo's sweatpants down and spit on them before sucking him in my mouth. Leo pulled my panties to the side, and daddy went to work. He sucked on my clit as I slurped him like a slushy.
"Yes, daddy right there." I moaned, grinding on his face.
He smacked me on my ass, making me moan as I hummed around him when he hit the back of my throat. "Fuck, daddy makes you this wet? You taste so fucking good."
"Mhmm, yes, daddy. You make my pussy soaking wet." I gasped, feeling him flick his tongue on my clit.
Leo was not playing any games. He was ravishing my pussy as I stroked him, moaning. Suddenly he pushed me off of him and laid on his stomach between my legs, continuing his assault.
"Right there, daddy. Please don't s-stop." I whimpered, holding the back of his head racking my nails down the back of his neck.
Leo grabs the back of my knees and pushes them back, and my legs start shaking. I felt the knot in me begin to tighten, and I knew I was on the verge of cumming. Leo is being fucking greedy with it.
"I know you want to cum, baby, so do it." He groans, staring up at me.
Moaning loudly, I came all in his mouth, and he slurped down every last drop. He pulls away, trailing kisses up my body smashing his lips against mine. Separating my lips from his, Leo pulled my panties off while I unfastened my bra. He smirks at me, biting one of my pierced nipples while pinching the other one. Daddy is a freak.
My hands grip the back of my thighs, spreading them open for him. Spitting on my fingers, I rubbed it on my sex to make it wetter. I let out a moan as my fiancé tapped his heavy cock against my sensitive clit. Before I knew it, he was stretching me open.
Shit, he feels so good when he slides inside of me every time.
"Shit, you feel so good, daddy." I moaned, my eyes rolling to the back of my head.
"You love daddy's dick?" My fiancé smirks down at me.
"Yes, I love it so much," I replied, nodding my head.
Leo picked up speed which made me grab my ankles and spread my legs open further as he got deep. I couldn't stop the moans that fell from my mouth, even if I tried my hardest.
Daddy was fucking my shit up. Pretty sure I might not be able to walk tomorrow.
"Fuck, your pussy is so tight. Squeezing my dick and shit." Leo groans, leaning down to press his lips against mine.
"Fuck yes, right there." I moaned, reaching down and rubbing my clit.
"Look at you. I got you creaming around me." He groaned, thrusting his hips faster.
"Oh my god fuck I'm gonna cum." I moaned, gripping my breast.
"Give it to me." He coaxed, moving my hand away and rubbing my clit himself.
My body reacted to him and tensed up, making me cum so hard I ended up pushing his dick out. "Fuck daddy."
"Turn over," Leo said, turning me on my stomach. He pulled my hips up and made me go in a deep arch.
Feeling him stretch me all over again, I moaned into the bed. I pushed back, meeting Leo's thrusts making him smack my ass hard.
"Shit, daddy!" I screamed, throwing my head back. Good thing I was wearing my naturally thick hair and not a wig.
Planting my hands on the bed, I got my balance and went to work. Leo's hand weaves in my hair and yanks my head back, making my ass clap back against his pelvis. He slapped my ass twice, causing my pussy to tighten around him.
"Shit, mama, you keep squeezing me like that. I'm going to nut all in this tight pussy." I leaned back, wrapping my arm around his neck, bringing his face to mine, kissing his lips.
"I want it. Give it to me, please." I whimper, gripping the sheets as Leo pins my waist down to the bed.
Leo thrusts in me harder, slamming against my spot. Now I can feel him hitting my cervix. "Fuck yes, daddy right there!"
Leo's POV
"Damn, baby! You have this dick bout' ready to bust!" I groaned, smacking Erika's ass. She is squeezing me like a bear trap.
"Fill my pussy, daddy." Erika moans, giving me those innocent eyes.
Every stroke I gave her, she clenched when I got to the tip. "I'm gonna nut baby!" I groaned, shooting my load deep inside of my fiancé.
"You feel so good." Erika smiles, slowly lifting, allowing my dick to fall from her swollen lips.
"If you're not pregnant after this, then we're tryin' twice a day." I groaned, smacking her ass as I got off the bed.
"Fuck you! No, we're not." She refused.
"Oh yes, we are end of discussion." I laughed, walking to the bathroom to grab a wet washcloth to clean up Erika.
After cleaning her up, I tucked her into bed since she was half asleep already, then ate me some dinner before going to bed myself.

Intertwined Fates (Chilumi/Zhonglumi) - Chapter 4
Free from uni for now... Hopefully I can write more! Thank you for waiting patiently!
Can be read in ao3 here
SUMMARY:  As Ajax looks forward to their future, someone from the past awakens...
“You know, just because I said I wanted more kids, doesn’t mean we have to do it like every night… or whenever we’re alone…” Lumine gave out a slight moan in the end when she felt her lover suck that sensitive mark on her neck, “Ajax, it’s too early in the morning and I need to walk today.” she whined, gasping when he bit her softly.
“Sorry, you look too delicious.” Ajax grinned, letting go of her so she could roll on her back to look at him with a pout.
“Same excuses.” Lumine playfully rolled her eyes, “Anyway… do you think she’s ready for school?”
Lumine felt Ajax tensed, letting out a sigh when she saw his shoulder trembling, “Oh my god, Ajax, please…”
“My baby girl is growing too fast.” his voice cracked.
Ever since Lumine reminded Ajax about Qiqi starting school a week ago, the man had been a bit emotional. Coddling the child ever since and keep asking if she’s ready, and it’s totally fine if she doesn't want to and he can just hire a private tutor for her. Lumine had to hit him at the back of the head saying that it’s important for their child to learn how to socialise.
“Lumi, our baby will be surrounded by boys! I can’t handle the thought of giving my princess away, Lumi, I can’t!”
“Ajax, she’s 5.”
“I can’t, Lumi!”
Lumine isn’t gonna lie, she’s also worried about how Qiqi would fare being with other kids considering she hadn’t interacted with kids her age.
But this should be it, right? The right time for Qiqi to meet and interact with other children.
The blonde also has that anxiety within her, what if someone’s mean to her child? Crush Qiqi’s dreams of having playmates?
Qiqi isn’t sure what she’s getting into, but as her parents explained what school was, there was excitement in her eyes as they talked about the various learning activities it has.
Besides, the pre-school was only a couple blocks away from their bakery, Lumine should be able to be by her side when needed.
“Lumi, what if our Qiqi falls in love? And that punk beaks her heart? She would be safer here, I already have the best tutor in mind.” Ajax tries to convince her.
“Ajax, for the last time, no one’s falling in love with anyone.” Lumine groaned, “And if it’ll make you feel better, the class has more girls than boys.”
“...What if she likes girls?”
“Then we love her just as much, but for fuck sake, Ajax, they’re kids. Worry when she’s in high school or college.” Lumine rolled her eyes, only to regret it when Ajax gave her a horrified look.
“I don’t want my baby to grow up.” he cried.
“Ajax, we can’t stop the cycle of life…” Lumine sighed, it’s too early to deal with this.
“So that’s why we should make more babies.” Ajax grinned, only to be hit by a pillow on the face.
“Oh my god, I’m going to check on Qiqi before dealing with any more of your bullshit this early morning,” Lumine said with a chuckle.
“Baaabe, homeschooling isn’t so bad!” Ajax called out for her only to receive an eye roll.
He pouted and decided to get ready himself, Qiqi’s going to school, he doesn’t need to work from home anymore. So it’s back to the office with him, back to dealing with his insufferable co-workers, especially the midget.
With that thought, he got up from the bed with an annoyed groan.
~~~
“Bye, bye, Papa. Love you.” Qiqi said, kissing his cheek before getting out of the car and grabbing her mother’s waiting hand.
“Bye, sweetie, have fun at school, okay? And if someone hurts you, tell Papa so I can take care of it, okay? Papa loves you.” Ajax smiled, earning a scoff from Lumine.
“Don’t teach our child violence this early.” she tsked before leaning in the car window, “Good luck at work and don’t kill anyone. I love you,” she said before pecking his lips goodbye.
“Hm, I’ll try not to make Mona a widow.” he grinned, “Bye, see you tonight. I love you too.” Ajax said, waiting and watching his girls to make sure they’ll be fine before driving off to his office.
Despite still being anxious for his daughter’s first day of school, he can’t help but fall in love with their new routine already. Him making their breakfast while Lumine prepares Qiqi for school, him dropping them off at the bakery, Lumine walking Qiqi the few minutes walk to her preschool. They all do their day until Qiqi’s done with preschool by 12 noon, Lumine picking her up and staying at the bakery until it’s time for Ajax to pick them up and go back home.
He can’t wait until more of his future kids join their routine.
Ajax is never trading this life for anything.
~~~
“Thank you, and have fun with your new kite!” the brunette smiled softly as he handed the kite to the child.
“Thank you, Mister! Thank you, Dad!” the little girl grinned, jumping excitedly as she hugged the toy to her chest, “Let’s go to the park! I wanna see the fairy fly!” she pulled her father out of the store.
The father just gave the employee a smile and wave before he’s led out by his daughter.
“Isn’t it nice seeing their little smiles? So bright and hopeful.” the old owner chuckled as she rearranged the toys on display.
“It is a great feeling.” he smiled.
He wondered how the father feels seeing his child happy, it must be a wonderful feeling .
Does he have a child of his own?
As he wrecked his mind for anything, he came up with nothing.
Looking at the golden band on his finger, he wonders yet again about the blonde woman who seemed etched in his mind.
“Ah, Zhongli, don’t you worry. My grandson is good with computers, I’m sure we’ll find her soon.” Granny Shan encouraged as she saw the look on his face again.
Zhongli forced out a smile, “Thank you, Granny Shan.”
It’s been a week since he awakened.
A week since it was explained that he ended up in a coma after being in a plane accident. Granny Shan had been his saviour, had taken him under her care, even transported his comatose body in this region when she moved to build another toy store. When asked why Granny Shan just gave a sad smile and talks about how he reminded her of her son whom she lost from an accident as well
Zhongli thinks she’s lucky to find an empty lot close to a preschool. He could imagine kids dragging their parents here when they’re let out.
Still, a week had gone by and still no memories coming back. All he knows is his name thanks to the ID he had on him, unfortunately, most of the information had been scratched off, or made unreadable thanks to being submerged in a puddle for too long before he was found, and the fact that he’s married because he has a ring on him. He could only assume the beautiful blonde woman is his wife, why else would he keep dreaming of coming back to her?
The lack of information on himself forced him to stay with Granny Shan. Choosing to help her after he recovered enough to do so while at the same time, doing all he can to remember.
While Granny Shan would contact her grandson and would receive a list of profiles, but none of them had been her.
Zhongli doesn’t blame him though, all he could offer him was her physical appearance, which is so hard to track down without any name to refer to. Not to mention her grandson isn’t even a part of a government organisation that would be able to get a hold of registered citizens, he was an IT, but the fact that he helps a stranger like Zhongli makes him a hero in Zhongli’s eyes.
And he wishes no further to burden them with his problems, but unfortunately, he can’t do anything but help around the toy store.
Though as much as he would like to come home, 5 years is a pretty long time.
How is she now?
Where is she now?
What is she doing now?
Upon finding out that he had been in a coma for five years, Zhongli vomited. It was a lot to take in and the fact that he can’t remember anything is very overwhelming and frustrating.
He was depressed for days, recovering and getting back on his feet just last night and asking Granny Shan if he could help because the blonde woman was encouraging him, asking him to come back to her.
She would sing sweetly for him, yet he can’t remember the lyrics as soon as he woke up.
Waking up without her had been torture for Zhongli so far, the need to be with her is growing stronger by the day, and he doesn’t know just how long he can wait until he breaks and go crazy chasing after a woman he doesn’t even know still exist.
His eyes widened at the thought, quickly shaking it off as he felt his heart race anxiously and his stomach churning badly.
Of course, she exists, why else would she keep asking him to come home?
His head began to ache, and it seemed it shows since Granny Shan is walking to him with a worried face, “Maybe it’s time for a break, yeah? Do you have a headache?”
Zhongli shook his head, “I’m fine don’t worry,” he smiled, “I should be fine if I drink-”
“I’ll make you some tea.”
“Please, I don’t want to bother-”
“Sonny, it’s fine, making tea should be easy for an old lady like me rather than having to man the cashier, don’t you think so? It’s almost noon, meaning kids might be filling the store soon.” Granny Shan explained with a smile, “Now just wait there, okay?”
Zhongli nodded in defeat, “Alright.”
Granny Shan then left to go to the back, where it functions as their home. It’s a decent size with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The man busies himself with rechecking the toys displayed, making sure they’re properly placed that children can see them. He sweeps for a few, just waiting for the time to pass by. He may have started working today, but he could hear the commotion before when it reaches noon as the store is filled with customers. It made him feel bad thinking about leaving the old lady alone, but there was nothing he could do about it but work his best.
It soon struck 12 and as expected, the small preschool across the street had released their students. Zhongli straightened up, preparing to greet customers as he already saw some kids dragging their parents in their shop. He watched as some kids threw tantrums when their parents denied them, some making their way excitedly to his shop, there were already two little girls looking at the display. The blonde one with elven ears pointed at a little plushie resembled some kind of a rabbit inside a red bag, her red eyes sparkling as she talks to the other girl. Zhongli can’t help but smile at her friend’s reaction, her magenta eyes wide with fascination as she listens to her talk.
They then met eyes, Zhongli smiling brightly with a small wave, making the girl return the gesture with a wide smile.
He also waved at the little blonde girl who is now tugging at the older blonde guy they were with.
“Albedo-oniichan, let’s get it, please! Pleaaaseee!” he can hear her behind the window, “Klee has been very good! Klee didn’t get sent to the corner by Ms Jean! Please, please, please!”
The man Zhongli assumed as Albedo smiled softly, “Well since you didn’t cause trouble, let’s go.”
Klee squealed in excitement, and seemed like was about to invite her friend, but it looks like the purple-haired girl was looking at someone who Zhongli couldn’t see.
Zhongli assumed it was her parents or guardian picking her up since she waved goodbye to her friend. He was a bit taken back when she turned to him and waved goodbye to him as well, but he returned the gesture with a smile.
For some reason, he felt some sort of happiness for the little girl.
He didn’t get to think much of it since customers had started pouring inside.
~~~
Zhongli once again smiled at the little purple-haired girl when she passed by the shop again. It had been 4 days so far and they had always been waving at each other when they passed by.
“Does that girl not have a guardian with her? I don’t think I’ve seen her with an adult.” Zhongli hummed as he cleans the shelves.
“Hm? The purple-haired one? Ah, her mother works at the bakery a couple of blocks away, it’s a few minutes walk, 2 or 3 at most. She only needs to step out of the bakery and watch from there, so she’s completely safe.” Granny Shan explained, “They have great pastries, by the way, I brought one home earlier, seems like a new product of theirs, feel free to eat them, they’re in the fridge.”
“Ah, it’s nice that their workplace is close to her school.” Zhongli hummed, a sudden craving for pastries appeared, and a specific sort of flavour too.
Zhongli ignored the craving, not wanting to leave the old woman alone with cleaning.
“Quite an adorable family too, I met her husband as well, a protective father he is.” she chuckled.
Zhongli can’t help but wonder, if he has a child, what kind of father was he?
He hopes they’re doing well if he does have. What a shame it was that he suddenly disappeared from their lives.
A longing feeling blossomed in his chest again, oh how he would love to meet the blonde goddess in his dreams, how elated he will be to find out if she bore his child.
“Say, Granny Shan, weren’t you saying about giving me a salary?”
“Hm? Did you change your mind about not getting them?” Granny Shan hummed.
“No, but shall I use that to buy that big finch plushie?” Zhongli asked, remembering how the little girl’s eyes would look at the bird-shaped stuffed toy longingly.
Granny Shan smiled, knowing exactly what he’s thinking, “Of course.” she chuckled, “Have you grown attached to the little girl already? It hasn’t been long nor did you two ever talk. It’s a shame I forgot her name, my memory isn’t the best.”
Zhongli smiled embarrassingly, “I just feel a bit bad, she’s been eyeing the toy ever since. Though, I’m a bit worried what her parents would think.”
The old lady waved him off, “Don’t worry about that, just put on our card so they know it’s from here, they know me there and that I own this place.”
Zhongli's smile brightened, “Thank you!”
He can’t wait to make a kid’s day bright.
~~~
The very next day, Zhongli waited for the little girl to pass again, he doesn’t know why but he felt so excited.
Just like on routine, she passed by again, and instead of waving, Zhongli gestured for her to wait. She listened, having been familiar with the old lady who owned the store, that’s why her mother didn’t have to wait for her outside. Granny Shan had been the one watching over her since Zhongli had been doing most of the work inside the store.
She gasped when Zhongli showed her the toy she’d been eyeing her. She immediately hugged it when handed to her, Zhongli can’t help but be in awe at the appreciative gesture.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” she jumped, hugging the plushie half her size.
Granny Shan can’t help but smile at the interaction, oh how she wishes Zhongli would be able to find his home with his family.
“It’s no problem, little one. I hope you take good care of them.” Zhongli smiled.
“Qiqi will name him Mr Finch.” the girl said.
Qiqi
There was a sudden pain in Zhongli’s head, not wanting to scare the little girl, he hid the pain.
“Well, I’m glad Mr Finch is in capable hands.” he smiled through the pain.
“Qiqi can’t wait until Mama and Papa meet him! Thank you, Mr!” Qiqi said once again before she had to make her way to her mother’s bakery.
As soon as Qiqi is far enough, Zhongli releases a groan as he rubs his temples.
“Something wrong?” Granny Shan asked with worry as she followed Zhongli inside.
“It’s probably just the heat or something.” Zhongli reassured, “It should be fine after taking a break.”
Granny Shan nodded, “Well, the day should be slow now, go on and take a break. You can even walk outside? The fresh air should be good for you.” she smiled.
Zhongli nodded at the suggestion before going back to his room.
As he lay down on his bed, he can’t help but think about what had happened.
Qiqi
The name tugged something in his chest, but he just can’t understand what it is.
He took a deep breath to ease his headache, maybe he should go for a walk after a nap.

Another angel on earth (Lucifer Morningstar x Daughter!Reader)
[Lucifer-Masterlist]
Summary: You were the daughter of Lucifer but had never met him. God decided to keep you in heaven but your birthday was approaching which meant that you were finally able to make your own decisions. You had always dreamed of visiting earth & that was exactly what you were going to do.
Words: 3,386
Warnings: language (what’s new), God being an asshole (no offense), naïve reader but pls accept it for the sake of this story, fluff, (Y/A) = your age, (Y/F/O) = your favorite outfit, (Y/E) = your eye color
If you like my work & wanna support me: a coffee would be highly appreciated ❤
You were (Y/N), an angel in heaven, the daughter of Lucifer. You had never seen your father, though, because God told you that it would not be convenient. Honestly, you had never been too eager about meeting your actual dad. He was the devil, to say the least. God & a lot of other angels had told you the story about why he got casted out of heaven. Did you really believe that story? You were not sure either. All you knew was that, no matter how much of a paradise heaven was, you hated being there.
“You know, (Y/N), it’s nothing new that someone tells me they don’t like heaven but trust me when I tell you: You’re not ready to face the harsh reality.” God managed to put that into your head from the very beginning on. Yet, you hated staying in heaven, you hated most of the angels there & most of all, you hated God. Yes, the oh so mighty God himself. You just did not understand how he wanted to keep you with him & the others at all costs. So you did all you could do at the moment: you stayed silent, watched humanity and waited. Humanity had always been fascinating to you. How they lived so freely without any restrictions whatsoever. You were jealous of them, wanting to live as carefree as most of them seemed.
There was one rule in heaven, one God decided was necessary for his followers. As soon as someone turned (Y/A), you were able to leave heaven, without having anyone to tell you any differently. You would reach that age in 2 days. Two more days until you were finally free. You could not wait anymore, it had been so long. God knew nothing about your plan yet. He assumed that, after everything, you would be staying up there your entire life. But because you were sick of all his rules, you decided you would be leaving right after your birthday. Would God hate you for doing so? Definitely. Did you care? Absolutely not.
You had always been a little different compared to the other angels. And while none of them ever said it to your face, you had overheard them saying it was because of your father. How the hell were you supposed to be like your dad when you had not even met him yet? You probably will never meet him. The devil himself was in hell, obviously, & you had no desire to pay hell a visit. The stories you had heard about that place were not exactly pleasing.
Finally, the time had come. A few more minutes & you would be able to leave heaven & start over. What city would you visit first? Paris seemed nice. Maybe London. Or maybe you would take a look around LA. Something had always felt right about LA, something you could not quite understand. Maybe you would after staying there for a couple days. Being an angel was nice, especially when you teleported yourself from one place to another. Suddenly, three angels & God stormed into your chambers. They scared you, they only ever rushed when it was something very important.
“You’re leaving?” God locked at you, shock written over his features.
“How do you know? It’s not like I ever talked about it…” you were so confused. You did not say anything purposely so how did he find out?
“I’m God, (Y/N).” he stated matter of factly. To that, you rolled your eyes.
“So? What do you wanna do? I’m (Y/A) now. You can’t tell me shit, big guy.” you were crazy for talking to THE God like that but on the other side, he knew your personality, he knew how you acted when you were mad. Yes, you were an asshole but you were totally fine with that.
“I thought you’d stay after everything. Where do you wanna go? There’s no other place for you, (Y/N), you belong here.” he pleaded. Why did he want you to stay so badly? Over the years, there had been quite a lot angels who decided to leave heaven. Why was it different with you?
“You & I both know that I don’t owe you an answer anymore. Why do you care anyway? Just let me leave for fuck’s sake.” the anger flashed through your eyes. Maybe they turned a tiny bit red but you were not sure. Your eyes only turned red when you were mad, REALLY mad.
“Language.” he mumbled. He did not like your use of words but that was something he never got out of you, it was part of you. “Yes, but you & I both know that I am God so I am going to find out.”
“I don’t give a shit. You can’t tell me anything anymore. I’m finally free & nobody will be able to stop me from going.” you stated confidently.
“Sure, go ahead. I know you’re going to come back on your knees, begging to live in heaven again & you know what? I will let you in. Tell you I knew better. Go, try it. See you soon then.” and with that, he and the other angels were gone.
“Asshole.” you whispered. You knew you were ready & God did not scare you with his words. It was time, your mind was set. The adventure was about to begin.
 ~arriving in LA~
The city was massive. Watching from up there & actually being there were two completely different things. So many people, huge buildings, so much to see. You absolutely loved it. The first thing you did after arriving was going shopping. Heaven’s attire was not really fitting for LA. In the shop, you had asked an employee to help you find the most basic outfit for this city. After about an hour, you left the shop with (Y/F/O) & you felt amazing. If this was what you had missed all this time then you truly had to curse God. Your gut feeling told you that this was the right decision & you spent the entire day just walking around, watching everything & everyone. Your advantage was that you had always been a bit more like humans than angels. Why? You had no idea but it came in handy, right now.
The sun started setting & that was when you realized that you still did not have any place to sleep for the night. Money was not a problem, heaven always had money. No one cared about it so you took a good amount before starting your trip. A hotel would do just fine. The only problem was that you did not have an idea where the next one was located. A phone would be nice but that was something that had not bothered you until now. The city was huge & there were tons of hotels but it was getting darker & darker & you had to admit that LA is quite scary late at night. There were more important things to think of right now, so back to the topic. You started walking further & further into the city, hoping a hotel would be near. Unfortunately, fate was not on your side. The streets became darker, the buildings terrifying. It was pitch black & it felt like you had been walking for hours. Wherever you were, it did not feel safe at all.
A few minutes later, you saw headlights approaching. They blinded your vision, only being used to the dark. Maybe you should ask the driver about a nearby hotel. What if the driver wanted to kill you, though? Your questions got answered by the black car, that got to a halt right in front of you. Your heart started racing. Yes, you were an angel but you were not sure if you could defend yourself. Your strength was not that good.
“Well, hello sweetheart. Aren’t you a bit young to walk these streets by your own at this time?” you were met with a man with dark hair who had a smirk on his face. Usually, you would run away but something about this stranger felt familiar so you just kept staying at the side walk.
“I’m (Y/A) & honestly, it wasn’t my intention to walk around here. I’m actually looking for a hotel nearby. Do you know where the next one is?” hearing your voice, you were kind of shocked. You sounded very uncertain, a bit nervous even. Your usual goofy & sarcastic self was gone.
“What’s your name, sweetie?” his voice was calming. It made you trust him without really knowing him. Weird.
“(Y/N).”
“(Y/N), hm, pretty name.” he hesitated for a bit, his face unreadable, before he spoke up again. “The next hotel is quite far away, you won’t be able to walk all the way. But I have an alternative. Hop in?” he looked at me suggestive. His dark eyes looked right into mine. Something about these eyes felt like…home? Maybe it was too late to think straight but you actually got inside his car. Tired of walking, tired of everything, you just wanted to get into a bed as soon as possible.
“Thank you. Hey, I never asked for your name.” your confidence started growing again, now that you were in this stranger’s car. To your defense, you genuinely did not feel like he was a stranger to you.
He darted his eyes from the road to take a look at you before he answered. “I’m Lucifer. Lucifer Morningstar.”
That made you snap your gaze toward him. People were weird. Why would anyone name their child Lucifer, like the devil? Okay, maybe his parents were responsible & it was just a stage name? But still, who would be okay with being called like the devil? Maybe he was just joking & wanted to make you laugh. So you did.
“The devil, huh? Funny enough, I’m actually the daughter of the devil.” you smirked. That was fun. It was hilarious when you could talk to a human being, tell them the truth & them just being clueless. You expected to hear him laugh, too, only to be met with an awkward silence. That made you look over to him. His face showed an emotion you could not quite read. Nothing else was said during the drive.
About 10 minutes later, we came to a halt in front of a very luxurious building. It looked like a night club. The hotels you knew definitely did not look like this but you left it uncommented. Without saying anything, the man exited the car, waiting for you to do the same. You actually felt bad for making him uncomfortable. It was not you intention, at all.
“Hey…Um, about earlier…I’m sorry, I guess I shouldn’t have said this. It was meant to be a joke. Sorry if I crossed a line.” you looked at him only to be faced with his back. He then turned around.
“It’s nothing, really. Just…got me thinking. It’s stupid, I shouldn’t have reacted that way. It was probably very weird & scary to be in a car with a stranger who doesn’t say a thing.” his smile looked forced but you still managed to shoot him back a real one.
“Thanks for driving. Where’s the hotel?”
“Actually, right here.” he turned toward the big neon sign that showed the letters “LUX”.
“Not to be rude but it looks more like a strip club.”
“That’s because it is one.” he smiled at you, this time a real smile.
“Now’s the time where I run for my life or what?” you laughed. Every normal human being would be scared as shit but not you. As you said, you felt safe in Lucifer’s presence. Maybe it was the fact that you always imagined your dad to be like that. Maybe it was the fact that he had the same name, you were not sure.
Entering the building, you were met with darkness everywhere. For a strip club, it sure was empty. Suddenly, someone grabbed you from behind & you could feel cold metal against your throat. Before you even had time to process what was happening you heard someone shout.
“STOP IT MAZIKEEN!.” for a second, you thought you could sport two red dots in the darkness but there was a knife attached to your throat. You clearly were not thinking straight. Light surrounded you & the grip on you loosened. Turning around, you saw a woman who looked badass (you had to give her that) & freaking scary.
“Who’s this? Isn’t she a bit too young for you?” she quirked an eyebrow.
“This girl was lost & on the search for a hotel & I didn’t wanna let her wander around alone, Maze.” Lucifer was more serious now.
“So you decided it would be a great idea to bring her here?” Maze definitely did not like you.
“Maybe I should go…” your voice was small.
“No! You’re not going out there alone again. Do you have an idea how dangerous LA can be for someone like you?” protecting you was not his job yet he felt the need to do so.
The three of you moved over to the bar where Maze offered you some sort of alcohol.
“I’m actually fine with water, thanks.” you smiled slightly.
“Boring.” she muttered.
Bringing you your water, she put a scotch in front of Lucifer. After that, she left the two of us alone.
“Tell me, what brings you here? Where are your parents?” he almost sounded concerned but maybe you were imagining things.
“Well, I ran away from home. I wasn’t really happy with my living conditions & with my…family. I decided it was time to explore the world a bit. LA is my first stop.” you took your words carefully. Not wanting to spill too much.
“So you’re telling me that you left your family behind, at (Y/A)? Without anything?”
“They were assholes. They wanted to keep me locked up for my entire life. I saw a chance & took it. It’s not that big of a deal.”
“It actually is but who am I to judge, right?” he let out a short laugh. “You know, my family threw me out so I think I kinda know how it feels like.” he took a big sip of his scotch, his face grimacing just slighty.
“Sorry to hear that. I don’t know if you can really say family because I have never met my dad, neither my mom. I just lived with a couple of people, assholes to be exact.” that made him laugh out loud. Why were you even telling him so much about yourself? He was a stranger, he did not feel like one but he was one still.
Your conversation went on for a little longer until you yawned & Lucifer realized that you must feel incredibly tired. He took you the elevator & after a short ride, you walked into an apartment that looked like a billionaire lived there. Lucifer led you to a sperate room, a guest room you assumed & told you he would be just a few rooms away if you needed him. He closed the door & you were alone again. Walking over to the bed, you noticed that you were not even tired anymore. Thinking Lucifer already went to sleep, you silently opened the door to the rest of the apartment. This place was huge & you wanted to take a look at it. That was until you saw the big terrace attached to the apartment. Walking over, your thoughts started wandering off. The cool breeze hit you & you started thinking about everything that had happened today. The conversation you had with Lucifer in his car was repeating itself over & over. What a coincidence that he was actually named Lucifer. He promised you that this was his real name & frankly, you believed him. Imagine he would be your dad, haha. Too bad that your father was in hell. Today, you realized that you were not unhappy in heaven, you were just desperate for a father figure. Why had God never let you meet him? Why had everyone always told you he was the bad guy? Even if he was…he was your dad.
Suddenly, a figure appeared right next to you & you were startled.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you. What are you doing out here? Didn’t you say you were tired, sweetheart?” he looked at view. LA was pretty at night, at least from up here.
“Yeah, I was. Guess my mind is just a bit fucked up, you know?” you forced a small smile. Lucifer looked at you & waited until your eyes met his.
“Tell me, (Y/N), what is it that you desire?” he flashed you a smile, only to be met by your confusion.
“What, are you a therapist now?” laughing, you slowly shook your head. Lucifer looked at you like you were an alien. Techincally, you were. Just, another sort of alien.
“What did you just say?” usually his techniques worked on everyone. Why not on you?
“I don’t think I stuttered, did I?
“Who are you?” his eyes grew wider & wider. You just stared at him like he was completely insane. Inbetween laughter you said.
“Funny, really funny. Too much to drink? Drugs? Too long without sex?” you raised an eyebrow while saying the last part, messing with him. But he was completely petrified still. As far as Lucifer knew, his gift did not work on angels only. You were not an angel, were you? An angel who had the same name as his daughter he never met. No, this could not be.
“Are you an angel?” his voice was low, serious.
“I get that a lot actually.” your sarcastic personality becoming the best of you. “Usually the men are a bit younger, though, but I take it as a compliment.” you giggled.
“I wasn’t joking.” his dark eyes searched for your (Y/E) ones. You were met with absolute honesty, curiosity. Two people could play this game.
“Are you the devil?” not expecting anything from him, you were shocked that he answered almost too quickly.
“I am.” before you had time to respond, you saw his eyes turning red (so you did not imagine this earlier) & his face turning into his true form. Others would probably be terrified but to you, this was the best thing you had seen in your entire life. Tears started forming in your eyes. You hoped this was not a dream you would wake up from. When he turned back to normal, one of his hands moved to cup your cheek.
“Dad? Is that you? Is that really you?” you hiccuped.
“(Y/N)? Bloody hell…” & with that you went in for a hug. Now it made sense. Of course he felt familiar. You had not met him before but you were an angel, your gut feeling was never wrong.
A few moments later, he examined your face. His daughter, you, found him.
“How?” was all he could say.
“I turned (Y/A). The moment I did, I left heaven. God wanted to keep me, wanted to keep me from you. You have no idea how many people told me stories about you. I thought you were in hell?”
“Left it a while ago. Vacation in LA sounded more inviting.” he grinned & you let out a laugh.
“I can’t believe I found you. I wasn’t even looking for you, something told me that LA was the right choice.”
“You’re here now & you’re not leaving, are you?”
“Never. If you don’t mind me staying in your strip club of a hotel?”
“Not at all.”
You sure did not think your first day out of heaven would go like that but on the other hand, it was meant to be. Your dad, the big bad Lucifer, who definitely was an asshole (but so were you), was not the bad guy everybody had warned you about. He was everything you had ever imagined, dreamed of. You were his angel, literally, & you were finally with him. You were ready to start your new life, finally reunited with the only family you ever had: your dad, Lucifer Morningstar.

glitter + crimson (let’s start a riot)//part three
summary: while mother nature isn’t very kind to the obx, jj’s dad is even worse to him. sailor sees the aftermath, relives a day that changed her life forever, and realizes she’d be down with murder if she could get away with it. between nutella sandwiches, story time, and a shared bed, an unspoken thing slowly starts to become a little more real.
word count: 6.9k+ (oops 😅)
ship: jj maybank x oc (sailor flynn)
warnings: abuse/neglect, blood, mentions of parental abandonment/gambling addiction, swearing, whump, hurt/comfort, fluff, blatant references to hocus pocus, the little mermaid, percy jackson and the olympians, and mean girls (and a teeny, subtle reference to stranger things, see if y’all can catch it! 😉)
a/n: i was so excited to write this part, not gonna lie (if you couldn’t tell, just look at that word count). hurt/comfort is my shittt and i’m a pretty big slut for physical comfort/touches so i kinda went ham with it lol. i’m also very happy to finally introduce everyone to peyton, who’s a character i really love and enjoy writing, especially her relationship with her gf alison. both of them will get some time to shine in this part, peyton in the present and alison in the past! as usual, this is unbetaed so all mistakes belong to me. enjoy!

part three: storm surge
It rains the entire week. Scratch that -it storms: the whole island buffeted by howling winds and blanketed by a thick layer of dark and angry clouds that make life just shy of miserable. For someone who spends 99% of her time outside like Sailor, miserable doesn’t begin to cover it. And to think, it’s only the beginning of hurricane season.
The redhead props her chin in one tan hand as she leans against the cool marble counter of The Butterscotch Bonnet Ice Cream Parlor, watching the rain pound against the shop’s bay windows. Across the street she can just make out the rough, gray surf of the Atlantic through a tiny gap in between two buildings and she sighs wistfully, thinking about all the beautiful shells getting tossed onto the beach by the waves. She’s half tempted to just throw off her apron, hop the counter, and make a break for the sand, storm be damned.
She’s almost positive she wouldn’t even be missed. There isn’t a customer in sight and there hasn’t been one since she started her shift three hours ago. Peyton was still in the back kitchen, messing around with whatever convoluted ice cream flavor she thought up for this week; her boss definitely has a knack for concocting weird combinations that somehow work together, at least most of the time. Sailor thinks back to a few weeks ago when they debuted that delicious blackberry balsamic that sold out every day without fail, then followed it with a cilantro lime that was hit-or-miss (a definite miss in her opinion, as cilantro just tastes like soap to her; Peyton had just smiled her infectious smile, shrugged her tiny shoulders, and said, “Can’t win ‘em all, I guess.”) This week’s flavor involves mascarpone and peaches and she can’t wait to steal a sample because if the wonderful smell coming from the kitchen is any indication, it’s gonna be bomb, even though it probably won’t upset the shop’s namesake flavor from the top of her list.
Thinking about ice cream makes her kind of hungry, on top of the fact that she has a terrible habit of eating when she’s bored, so she dishes out a small scoop of Butterscotch Bonnet and grabs a spoon before leaning back against the counter, digging through the cup to find the best part: salted caramel-filled chocolate sea shells, made in house. The days Sailor gets to help make them are her favorite days to come to work, when she and Peyton commandeer the kitchen and have the time of their lives, blasting music and dancing as they slave away. Of course, the little bag of chocolates she gets to take home is a pretty big plus, too.
“That’s coming out of your paycheck, Sail.”
Spoon halfway to her mouth, she sheepishly glances up from her snack as Peyton emerges from the kitchen, fondly shaking her head and sending her inky black braids dancing across her shoulders.
“What am I gonna do with you?” She continues with a wink before starting to make herself a milkshake, dropping two scoops of their tiramisu flavor into a malt cup.
“Sorry, you know I can’t help myself!” Sailor knows the other girl was joking but she apologizes anyway and opens the cabinet to grab a cup and straw for her, setting them on the counter beside the old-fashioned milkshake machine. As far as bosses go, Peyton is one of the all-around best to have and the redhead loves working at her shop. While the Buckleys are rich as shit and total kooks, the family’s youngest daughter is down to earth, kind, and prefers to work hard for what she wants instead of flaunting her parents’ wealth and The Butterscotch Bonnet is proof that, despite her last name and penchant for the finer things, she’s a pogue at heart. It’s no wonder Alison’s head over heels for her.
“I also know you’re bored as shit.” Peyton calls over the sound of the blender, sending a knowing smirk toward the younger girl, who rolls her eyes and shovels another spoonful of ice cream in her mouth as she replies, “Obviously. This weather fucking sucks.”
A loud clap of thunder seems to shake the very glass in the windows and she gestures toward the storm outside, her point proven. Peyton glances around the deserted shop, still bright and cheery despite its lack of movement and life, then back to the relentless downpour, before shrugging and turning back to finish blending her milkshake. “Wanna go home early?”
“Seriously?”
“Why not? You’ve already cleaned this whole place from top to bottom and I don’t think we’re gonna be getting customers any time soon.” Ignoring the paper cup, she plops the straw straight into her drink and takes a big sip, then nods in satisfaction before adding a huge swirl of whipped cream on top.
“Have I ever told you that you’re the best?” Sailor asks, smiling excitedly as she grabs her bag from under the counter and tosses her empty cup into the trash.
“Only every day,” the older girl replies cheekily, smiling as she’s pulled into a one-armed hug of thanks by her employee.
“Well, you’re gonna hear it again: you’re the best.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Peyton pats the redhead’s shoulder with one deep brown hand and then gently pushes her toward the kitchen. “Now get out of here, brat. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yes, ma’am!” Sailor throws a peace sign over her shoulder as she heads out the door, cackling at her boss’s offended call of “don’t call me ma’am!” After clocking out, she fishes her keys out of her bag and dashes through the downpour to her beat-up clunker of a truck. A hand-me-down from Alison, Flounder’s nothing to look at with all the dents and chips in his blue paint, but he gets her where she needs to go and has room for surfboards in the back and two other pogues up front on the bench seat -and the other two unlucky ones riding in the bed, hiding under the boards- so she’s not complaining, even though she wishes his radio worked more than half the time.
(Two reasons why John B’s almost always the group chauffeur: the fact that he can legally drive all five of them around without breaking the law -not that they’ve ever gotten caught in Sailor’s truck but anyone with a brain knows that where one pogue goes, the other four aren’t far behind- and good music flowing from a perfectly working stereo.)
Unfortunately, it’s on the fritz today so her drive home is spent listening to the sounds of Flounder’s windshield wipers and the pounding of rain against his roof. She heads inland from the beach, away from Peyton’s shop in the outskirts of affluent Figure 8 and its kook mansions to the more homey, laid-back Cut, passing by the turnoff to the Chateau and through the woods before pulling into the empty driveway of her tiny house. The fact that her mother’s car is no where to be found doesn’t surprise her in the slightest. Waiting for her on the porch is Binx, the stray black cat she’s taken to feeding and more or less adopted, stretching on the blanket she left out for him.
“Hey, handsome,” The redhead says, kneeling down to give him a loving scratch behind the ears; he meows in response and rubs his fuzzy face against her ankles, weaving between her legs as she slides her key into the lock. “Come on in.”
The front door closes behind them with a hollow bang that echoes through the empty house like the thunder outside. Sailor hangs up her keys and follows Binx down the hall toward her room, ignoring the closed door that leads to her mom’s room and a bed that she assumes hasn’t been slept in in months. Not that she would know: she’s made it a habit to spend as few nights as possible alone in the house, instead crashing at the Chateau or Kiara’s place and hoping her mom’s comfortable in her makeshift room at The Sandbar where Carmen doesn’t have to deal with the teenager she’s supposed to be caring for (Sailor’s always been an independent girl and has no trouble getting by alone but fuck, that doesn’t mean she wants to.).
Her father’s green eyes, the same color as her own, stare back at her from a picture hanging on the wall of a better time, when everything was alright and her family wasn’t so broken; the three of them on the beach with a twelve year old Sailor in the middle and surfboards in hand. Carmen looks like the mother she remembers and misses so bad it hurts, and while Ryan wasn’t always the most caring of fathers and only acted like a dad when it was convenient, she’d still do anything to have him back, terrible parenting skills and all. She turns away from the picture and the complicated mess her heart becomes when she thinks about him, continuing down the hall to her room.
Complicated doesn’t even begin to cover her feelings about her dad, though. She’s always believed she was an afterthought to him, never first on his list but still good enough to tag along for company when he was doing something he wanted to do. He was a man who liked the idea of having a kid but never wanted to actually step up and parent when things weren’t all fun and games, instead deciding to take off to Atlantic City for a month or two at a time to gamble away whatever money they earned at the surf shop.
She wants to hate him. She should loathe him and in a way, she does. She hates the way he still makes her feel like everything’s her fault, even when he’s not around. She hates the person her mother becomes when he disappears, someone distant and cold and so unlike the good, caring mother Sailor remembers. She hates that home doesn’t feel like home anymore and it’s all his fault, and she hates that despite everything he’s put her through, all the hurt he’s caused, she still can’t find it in her big, bleeding heart to truly detest her father. After all, he could’ve been worse. So, so much worse.
The only place she can get away from everything is her room, her own little sanctuary from the cold emptiness of the rest of the house and constant reminders of Ryan’s absence. It’s warm and bright, the walls painted a sunny yellow that reminds her of lazy days relaxing on the beach. Her first surfboard hangs on the wall above her bed, tucked away in a corner, doubling as a shelf for her massive shell collection while pictures of her and her friends dangle underneath, pinned to a long piece of twine. Her current boards stand propped in another corner, leaning against a wall plastered with all types of movie and music posters. Through the windows covered with curtains as light as sea foam, the rain steadily pours but in here, she’s safe. In here, she can breathe.
Sailor strips off her uniform, tossing it along with her bag onto the chair by the door and slips out of her worn red high-tops before pulling on a pair of sleep shorts and the first long-sleeve shirt her fingers find in the closet, then flops onto her bed and pulls the soft blue blanket around her shoulders, reading glasses and well-loved copy of The Lightning Thief in hand while Binx curls up at her feet. Every summer without fail she rereads the series (why, she’s not exactly sure: maybe its nostalgia, maybe its because she lowkey relates to water-loving, steadfastly loyal Percy) and she’s fallen behind this year, so she fully intends on reading as much as she can tonight before bed. The storm provides perfect background noise and soon she’s five chapters in before a sudden loud knock on her window causes her head to snap up in alarm.
Oh no. Without bothering to save her place, she tosses the book and her glasses aside and scrambles from the bed to the window, tearing open the curtains to reveal a sight she always dreads seeing. Her best friend stands outside in the rain, soaked to the bone, hand pressed against his side, and the sight of bright red blood trailing down his face and staining the collar of his gray shirt makes her heart drop to her stomach. Wordlessly, she opens the window and helps him climb inside before closing it firmly and drawing the curtains, once again blocking the world from her -now their- sanctuary, then grabs her blanket from the bed and wraps it tightly around JJ’s shaking shoulders after he kicks off his sodden boots.
Her hand slowly moves to cup his face and her heart breaks a little more when he tenses, blue eyes carefully tracking its movement until he seems to remember who it belongs to and lets himself lean into her touch, cheek resting against her palm. Sailor runs her thumb under his split lip and and wipes at the crimson staining his tan skin, her mouth curving into a small frown when she only succeeds in smearing it further.
“Come on,” She breaks the silence with her gentle voice, barely above a whisper, and reaches her other hand out to take his, “Let’s get you cleaned up.”
His fingers hold so, so tight as she leads him down the hall to the bathroom and she’s so laser-focused on the way they tremble against hers that she doesn’t notice the blood left behind on the handle when she opens the door. After flicking on the light she turns to face him and gently pushes the blanket from his shoulders with her free hand, letting it fall to the floor in a damp heap, then blindly reaches behind her to turn on the shower, cranking the heat as high as it’ll go.
“Sorry about your blanket.” JJ says at last, his voice quiet, and Sailor shakes her head, running her thumb in circles on the back of his cold hand.
“I don’t care about that, J.” She replies just as quiet and before she can stop herself, before she can think about what exactly she’s about to admit, she adds, “I care about you.”
The corner of his mouth lifts in a barely-there smile and while it may be tiny, it’s a smile nonetheless and she feels the tight knot in her chest begin to loosen as she lets go of his hand, reaching for the hem of his shirt. “Can you lift your arms for me?”
He does as she asks but his pained wince doesn’t go unnoticed by the redhead when she pulls his shirt over his head and tosses it on top of the discarded blanket, and her jaw clenches at the sight of deep purple bruises in the shape of his father’s fists marring the skin over his ribs.
“Let me know if this hurts.” Oh so carefully she reaches out with one hand and gently touches the darkest mark, where she’d seen him clutching at outside her window, her fingers delicately feeling for any damages.
“A little.” He admits, shaky breath warm against her forehead and she does her best to keep her hand steady as she checks over the rest of him, then feathers her fingers back over that first bruise.
“It doesn’t feel like anything’s broken or cracked, so that’s good.” She says, allowing her hand to linger for a second before letting it fall from his side. “A rib or two might be a little bruised, though, so we’ll put some ice on them later, just in case. Sound good?”
JJ nods and watches her with those ocean blue eyes as she pulls her own shirt over her head, leaving her in a plain black cami and shorts, before grabbing his hand once again and pulling him into the shower with her. The water’s just a tad too hot and it instantly starts turning her skin red but Sailor doesn’t mind, instead choosing to embrace the heat and the way it burns everything away, leaving behind brand new skin that’s ready for a new day, new adventures. She reaches up and gingerly wipes the blood from her best friend’s face; in a mirror of earlier, he leans his cheek into her palm, eyes slowly closing while both arms wrap around her waist and pull her close.
“Sail,” He whispers her nickname into the humid air between them and she barely registers the tremble in his voice before his knees buckle, sinking them both to the shower floor until they’re face to face, sitting in between each other’s legs. He clings to her, arms even tighter around her waist and face buried against her neck, and she feels the shake of his shoulders when she winds her own arms around them. One hand moves to steadily run through wet blond hair, over and over, comforting in the best way she knows how, the fingers of her other hand tracing circles on the bare skin of his back as water continues to rain down on them like the downpour outside.
She’s eerily reminded of another time they sat like this, sobbing in each other’s arms five years ago, the first time she saw just how cruel his father could be, the first time she realized she’d do absolutely everything and anything to keep him safe, and it was both one of the best and worst days of her life.
Eleven year old Sailor shoved her math textbook into her cluttered locker and kicked it shut with a scowl. She hated math, her math teacher, and especially whoever made her schedule- who in their right mind would put math in eighth-period? She swung her backpack onto her shoulder and grunted softly at the extra weight it carried. JJ hadn’t come to school that day and Sailor had volunteered to take his missed work to him; it made sense, considering she lived closest out of the pogues and it’d make her feel better if she got to check on him herself -there was a reason the rest of the group called her the mom friend, after all.
She’d already collected assignments from the classes he shared with Pope and Kiara as well as herself, so now she was just waiting for John B to drop off his own. As if summoned by her thoughts, the brunet boy rounded the corner and waved, weaving his way to her through their fellow middle-schoolers. “Sorry, you know how Mr. Jefferson likes to go on and on and on...” He said, pulling some papers from his backpack and handing them to the redhead. “Do you remember where J’s house is?”
Sailor rolled her eyes and carefully slid the homework into her own bag. “Considering I live, like, five streets away, I sure hope so.” She fired back, ignoring his cackle of laughter as they joined the rush of students, excited for the weekend, flooding out through the double doors of Kildare County Middle School. She lingered by her friend as he unlocked his bike from the rack and then climbed on, asking, “You’re helping out at the shop on Saturday, right?”
She nodded, scanning the sea of waiting cars and waving when she spotted her ride. “Yeah, why?”
“My dad and I are gonna hang out at the beach that day so we’ll stop by and say hi.” With a casual salute in her direction he slowly started pedaling down the road, calling back over his shoulder, “Tell JJ he can come too if he’s feeling better!”
“Tell him yourself!” She yelled after his retreating back, not surprised in the slightest when he didn’t turn around and disappeared into the trees. Alison’s beat up blue truck pulled up to the curb seconds later and the older redhead leaned out the open window, a shit-eating grin on her face as she joked, “Get in loser, we’re going shopping!”
Sailor laughed and climbed into the passenger seat, dropping her backpack on the floor with a loud thump. Alison winced at the sound, raising her eyebrow as she waited for the younger girl to put her seatbelt on. “What the hell do you have in there, rocks?”
“One of my friends missed school today so I have his homework. Do you mind driving by so I can drop it off? He only lives a few streets away.”
“Sure,” Alison replied, flicking on her turn signal and merging into the stream of cars leaving the school’s parking lot. “So who skipped: Smarty Pants, Bandana Boy, or Surfer Bro?”
The eleven year old giggled at the nicknames -she’d never admit it, but they were honestly pretty accurate- and replied, “Surfer Bro. And his name is JJ, Ali.”
“Rightttt, JJ. What do you think it stands for, huh? Jesse James? John Jacob?”
“Oh my Godddddd!”
The high school senior continued to come up with names, each more ridiculous than the last until Sailor exclaimed “There!” and directed her to park near a small, run-down house on a quiet road. She pulled a folder from her backpack and was out the door before the older girl could blink, calling over her shoulder, “I’ll be right back!”
The redhead slammed the truck door behind her and made her way toward the porch and what she assumed was the front door; she’d never been inside JJ’s house but he always came out to meet them through there so she figured it was a safe bet. The smile fell from her face, ears registering the sound of horrible, angry yelling just as she brought her fist down to knock and she anxiously fidgeted back and forth on the step, her heart starting to beat fast in her chest. What the hell was going on?
"Fucking hell!” An enraged shout came clear as day from inside and as she heard the person’s stomping approach, something in her, a feeling, urged her to hide the folder in her hand behind her back. She jumped in surprise when the door was suddenly ripped open, revealing a fuming, red-faced man who glared down at her with heavily lidded eyes and one hand clenched in a fist at his side, the other holding the threshold in a white-knuckled grip. “What the hell do you want?”
“H-hi, I’m Sailor, one of JJ’s friends? He wasn’t at school today so I came by to check on him.” She said, proud of herself for keeping most of the tremble out of her voice while she studiously avoided his cruel gaze, instead subtly trying to peer behind him and hopefully catch a glimpse of her friend. The man, who she realized with sheer horror had to be JJ’s dad, was absolutely terrifying, with breath reeking of booze and mouth curled into a vicious snarl as he moved to block her view into the house and snapped, “Kid’s fine. Now get the fuck outta here.”
“Can I just see-”
She was cut off when he slammed the door in her face with the hand that had been by his side and her eyes widened, stomach sinking with dread as she caught sight of the splotch of bright crimson left behind on the wood. Oh, God. This could not be happening. She remembered John B’s warning about JJ’s dad, saying he wasn’t a very nice man when she became friends with them last year but she didn’t recall him ever saying anything about this and it hits her like a freight train: he probably didn’t know. Her heart pounded against her ribcage. If JB didn’t know then Pope and Kiara definitely didn’t and a sickening feeling started to churn her belly, both at the thought of JJ facing all of this by himself and the fact that she alone had the power to help.
Inside the house, she heard his dad resume his screaming, every other word accompanied by a sickening thumping noise she’d only heard in person once before, a few years ago on the beach with her parents when two drunk tourons started wailing on each other over a spilled beer: the sound of a fist hitting flesh. Sailor started to panic, both hands flying to cover her mouth in terror. Underneath the screaming and punching, she couldn’t hear anything, any cry or yelp or whimper from her friend and, mind racing with million terrible, awful thoughts, she turned and ran back to the truck, flinging open the door and scrambling inside to grab Alison’s arm, folder in her hands falling to the floor.
“Ali, please, we’ve got to help him-”
“Whoa, where’s the fire?” The older girl joked as she looked up from her phone, smile falling from her lips when she caught sight of the eleven year old’s pale face and wide eyes. She reached over and placed her hands on Sailor’s slight, trembling shoulders. “What’s going on?”
Her lip quivered terribly as she told Alison everything she saw and heard, watching her expression slowly twist into outright dismay, the fingers on her shoulders tightening their grip when she finished, “Ali, what’re we gonna do? We have to help him right now!”
“Fuck, okay, first off let’s calm down- don’t give me that look, kid! We can’t just burst in there like Wonder Woman or something, let me- oh, look!” Alison pointed through windshield, where JJ’s dad furiously stalked from the house to his truck, climbing inside and violently slamming the door before taking off in a cloud of dust. Sailor quickly ducked when he drove by and stayed down until the older redhead gave her the all clear, “He’s gone. That was perfect timing, huh?”
She didn’t reply or even wait for her to unbuckle her seatbelt, taking off at a sprint and bounding onto the porch in no time, furiously knocking against the door. “Hey, J, are you there? It’s Sailor.”
There was no reply and her heart dropped to her stomach. Alison joined her on the front step, her face blanching when her eyes landed on the blood stain on the corner of the door. One of her hands reached out to grab the handle while the other found Sailor’s smaller one and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
“Come on,” With no hesitation and the bravery Sailor wished she had, the eighteen year old pushed the door open and pulled them both into the dusky house. The younger redhead wrinkled her nose at the sight of beer cans and pill bottles littering a circle around the couch but she pressed on, calling his name as the girls moved room to room.
“Sail?” The sound of JJ’s pained voice coming from the room at the end of the hall made her heart skip a beat and she dropped Alison’s hand, running forward and bursting through the door in a rush, not even thinking about what state her friend might’ve been in. Feeling like she’d just been sucker punched right in the gut at the sight of him lying face down on the floor with a small puddle of blood forming under his mouth, she dropped to her knees beside him and delicately took his hand in both of hers, nearly crying in relief when his fingers gripped tight to her palm. Behind her, she heard Alison’s sharp intake of breath as she entered the room, darting over to kneel on JJ’s other side and place a gentle hand on his shoulder, and together they carefully helped him roll onto his back, then up into a sitting position with the older girl’s arm behind him as a brace.
Her jaw trembled as she tried and tried to say something, anything; her head was filled with so many questions -what happened, how could he do this, when did this start?- but the only thing she managed to ask was a simple, “Why?”
“It’s just what he does.” He replied with a shrug, wincing at the movement, “I’m sorry, Sail.”
“What the hell are you apologizing for?” She asked incredulously, then followed his finger as he pointed at a pile of jagged yellowish-brown pieces on the floor by his bed.
“He broke the shell you gave me.” He looked so upset, so distraught over the broken whelk and she felt her heart swell with waves of affection for her friend, who was more concerned about her broken gift than he was about himself.
“Hey,” She said softly, turning away from the mess to look him in the eye with a small smile, her hand reaching out on its own accord to brush a lock of fine blond hair away from a cut near his temple. “It’s just a shell, okay? I’ll find you another one.”
The sight of blood on his teeth when he returned her smile reminded her of the task at hand and she shook her head, wrapping her thin arm around his waist. “Let’s get you out of here. Think you can stand?” At his nod, both girls put one of his arms around their shoulders and slowly stood, shuffling out the door with all the grace and speed of an old man with two bad knees, but hey, they were moving and getting JJ out of that terrible place, so she’d go as slow as they needed to, even if her anxiety was getting worse and worse with each passing second they spent in the house.
After loading the kids onto the bench seat of the truck, Alison quickly drove them to the empty Flynn residence -Carmen and Ryan still working at the shop- and helped Sailor move JJ into the bathroom. “I’ll go grab you some towels and dry clothes, okay? I think some of your dad’s old stuff might fit him.” She said, watching as the young girl kneeled beside her friend and started untying his shoes.
The eleven year old nodded at her older friend and sent her a small smile. “Thanks, Ali.”
“No problem, kiddos.” With a quick smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes she was gone, heading down the hall toward the laundry room.
Sailor reached over and turned the shower on as hot as possible. “Okay, um, take as long as you need, I guess. I’ll wait outside.” She jerked her thumb toward the hall but before she could even take a step, his hand darted out and grabbed her wrist.
“Stay.” It was more of a demand than a question and JJ seemed embarrassed to even be saying it, the uninjured parts of his face turning an endearing shade of pink. “Please?”
She just nodded and reached a leg out to gently kick the door shut, her mind racing. She stayed but what the hell should she do now, keep her back turned? Get in the shower with him? From the way he was fidgeting back and forth and avoiding her eyes, he was probably thinking the same thing.
“Oh, come on.” She finally said after a minute or two of decidedly not looking at each other and kicked off her sandals, darting forward on impulse to grab his hand and pull them both under the spray. The water uncomfortably soaked into their clothes and made their movements sluggish as they clumsily shuffled around -stepping on each other’s toes and mumbling identical apologies- before finding a position that was only a little bit awkward in the confined space, his arms on either side of her waist and bracing against the wall, her hands tentatively resting on his shoulders.
“This okay?” She asked, feeling her cheeks reddening from more than just the steam curling around them and frizzing her hair, and JJ nodded, swallowing thickly and blinking away a droplet of red-tinged condensation that slid down his forehead. Her hand, moving on its own accord, slowly reached for his face until her palm gently came to rest against his flushed cheek, the tip of her pointer finger just brushing a small cut that sliced through one eyebrow.
“How...” Sailor shook her head, taking a deep breath before finally asking the question that’d been on her mind since this whole thing started, “How long has this been happening?”
Once again he avoided her wide-eyed gaze, eyelids fluttering shut as he answered hesitantly, quietly, “I...I don’t remember a time when it didn’t.”
His answer chipped away the last brick in the dam and the floodgates broke. She flung herself into his chest, arms wrapping around his shoulders and fingers twisting in the sodden fabric of his shirt, sobbing into the warm skin of his neck. He froze in her embrace, whole body stock-still until something in him seemed to break too, and his own arms encircled her waist, bit by bit, pulling her close as he buried his face into her shoulder and two sixth graders slowly slumped to the shower floor in a tangled mess of limbs.
“J, why didn’t you say anything?”
His body trembled in her arms and she inhaled sharply at his reply of, “Because I’m not worth it.”
Pulling away from his neck to rest her forehead against his, she cupped his face in both hands and forced him to look her in the eyes, her voice quiet but adamant, insistent as she said, “Don’t you dare say that again, got it? You are worth it. So, so worth it.”
The look behind his red-rimmed, ocean blue gaze was made of pure, unadulterated disbelief and Sailor, at a loss, wracked her brain for something, anything she could do to make him see himself the way she did: loyal, adventurous, funny, and oh so brave, already a beloved, dear friend to her in the short time she’d known him. How could she help him realize he was so much more than his father’s abuse?
‘What can I do to make you believe me?’
An epiphany came to her like a bolt of lightning straight to the heart. It was more than a little crazy and the thought of actually doing it was lowkey terrifying but she’d seen it work beautifully for Alison and her girlfriend Peyton that one time and hell, she was so desperate to help her friend that she’d do just about anything. And so before her anxious mind could start to overthink she surged forward, both hands still holding his face in a gentle grip, and firmly pressed her lips to his.
JJ’s eyes were almost comically wide while he stared, frozen still at her touch, and her own eyes were just as huge as she held the kiss for a few seconds and then abruptly pulled back, her face slowly changing into a shade very similar to her hair.
“Y-you, I-” He stuttered, mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water as a deep pink flush started to color the tan skin of his neck. “Wh-why-”
“Because you are worthy, J. Promise me you won’t forget that.” Her words were as fierce as the hug she pulled him into, only letting the tension bleed out of her when she felt him gradually return her embrace and nod against her shoulder.
“I promise, Sail.”
“Good.”
And with that they fell silent, holding each other tight until the shower ran cold.
Sailor didn’t know it at the time but that hadn’t been just her first kiss but JJ’s too, as they never talked about it until two years later, during a game of truth or dare with the rest of the pogues. Neither actually told the truth, both giving a vague answer about a bet that seemed to placate their friends enough to let the matter drop, never to be brought up again.
The only kiss that happens today is the light brush of her lips against his forehead as she holds him close, even as the water slowly begins to lose its warmth. His embrace is tight, their limbs intertwined so fully that it’s hard to discern where one ends and the other begins and when he speaks, she has to strain to hear the words mumbled against her neck over the pounding spray of the shower.
“I don’t know how much more I can take.”
His confession cuts her deep. Hearing him admit something so utterly heartbreaking and vulnerable, coming from the side of him Sailor alone gets to see, ignites a fury that simmers under her skin and burns her from the inside out, thoughts turning venomous and, dare she say, downright homicidal. Fuck his dad. Fuck his dad and everything he’s ever done to hurt her best friend, both with and without fists.
“If I could get away with murder, I would.”
It’s true. For JJ, she’d do anything and everything to keep him safe without hesitation, up to and including maiming his dad so he could never touch him again (and if she happened to take it a little too far and straight up kill the bastard, she’d most definitely be fine with it.). He laughs, but it’s empty, hollow, and sorely lacking the joy, the carefreeness, the pure life that it normally radiates.
“You’re not the only one.”
Some time later, after the water raining down on them turns ice cold and their tears have dried, they reluctantly disentangle themselves from each other and towel off before making a quick detour to the kitchen to grab an ice pack for his ribs and have a meager dinner of sandwiches made with the last of her bread and a near empty jar of Nutella. He laughs, for real this time, when he reads the note she writes herself on the fridge future sailor, as much as you want to, you can’t live off just nutella and sheer spite, okay? please go shopping. love, past sailor <3 and grabs the marker out of her hand, adding +past jj and a little smiley face that makes her smile brightly.
They return to her room where they change, back to back, into dry clothes -one of her dresser drawers is full of his things she’s stolen acquired over the years- and, after throwing everything wet, including their discarded shirts and blanket retrieved from the bathroom, into the washing machine to be dealt with some other time, they lie on her bed side by side, shoulder to shoulder, wrapped up together in a spare throw stashed at the bottom of her closet. Binx slinks up from his spot at their feet and lazily drapes himself across their laps, purring like a motorboat when Sailor starts running her hand along his back.
“I almost sat on those,” JJ says, handing over her glasses, “and this.” He holds her forgotten book in his hands, casually flipping through the pages before turning it over and scanning the back cover.
“Have you read it before?”
He shrugs, a barely-there grimace briefly twisting his features as the motion jostles his sore ribs. “Started it, never finished.”
“Well,” She starts, slipping her glasses on and snatching the book out of his grasp, “how about we fix that? I’ll read, you pet the cat.”
Sailor’s voice is soft and steady as she starts to read aloud, a content smile on her face that’s echoed by the boy lying beside her when she settles against his side, head pillowed on the arm he curls around her shoulders without a thought. JJ’s the near perfect listener, only snickering once or twice at her total butchering of some of the more difficult Greek names (how come she can say Hephaestus just fine but gets tripped up on Dionysus?) but otherwise hanging off her every word and the relaxed ease with which he runs his hand through the ends of her damp hair fills her with a warmth, a happiness that she can’t describe but never wants to stop.
Hidden away from the rest of the world, curled up together on her bed, they forget the day’s past horrors and replace them with bright hopes for the future, exchanging comforting touches, deliberate yet played off as unintentional, in the soft glow of the bedside lamp -a caress of knuckles here, a brush of a palm there- as she reads into the night, until the cloudy sky darkens to black and they’re both fighting off the languid pull of sleep.
“I think that’s enough for today.” He plucks the book from her hands without waiting for a response and marks their place with a gas station receipt she was using as a makeshift placeholder, and setting it on the beside drawer.
“It’s your turn to read tomorrow,” He takes her glasses off with gentle fingers as she speaks into what little space still exists between them (that’s not otherwise occupied by Binx), smiling at the slow graze of his thumb along her cheek and nestles further against his side. “I’m done botching the names of deities for a while.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Damn it, Sailor kind of hates it when he says that cause it makes her feel things that she’s not quite ready to think about yet. Thankfully, her blush is swallowed by the darkness as he turns off the light and settles down beside her, arm slung low over her waist; her hand carefully brushes against his bruised ribs over the old shirt he wears, ice pack long ago thawed and thrown somewhere onto the hardwood floor.
“How do these feel? Better?”
She feels JJ nod, his chin brushing the top of her head. “Much.” There’s a pause, long enough that she starts to feel like she’s about to nod off, then he whispers, “Thank you, Sail. I know I don’t say it enough.”
She takes a deep breath, fingers stilling on his side, “Because you don’t need to, J. Remember what I said earlier, in the bathroom?”
He nods again but doesn’t reply, instead drawing circles on the small of her back, so she takes it as a cue to continue, “I care about you, okay? You don’t have to thank me for that. I’m just...doing what feels right.”
After a beat, the arm she’s using as a pillow curls and pulls her tighter against him as he says quietly, almost shyly, “I care about you, too.”
The rain outside had slowed to a drizzle without either teenager noticing and the gentle pitter-patter against the roof casts a somnolent spell into the air, dazed and dreamy. It wraps around the pair, not unlike the way they wrap around each other, and slowly, easily, safely, they drift off as one.

_____
“Rise and shine boys,” you said with a yawn when you parked next to Sam’s truck around seven in the morning. Dean stirred in his seat, Dylan cracking his neck. He took off the shirt over his face and rubbed his eyes, blinking wearily a few times. The three of you got out, Sam stepping out onto the porch with a gun by his side.
“You guys in one piece?” he asked.
“Yeah, we’re good,” said Dean. Sam walked over and gave Dean and you each a hug before turning his gaze on Dylan.
“You sure he’s not playing us?” asked Sam.
“We’re pretty-”
“Maggie, stop!” said Matty from inside as a giant blur of fur came rushing outside. The dog sat down and looked up at you, wagging her tail. Matty popped out and threw his head back. “Good girl.”
“Uh, Matty,” said Sam, Matty already pausing as he walked over to get the dog. He stared at Dylan, getting a small smile in return.
“Hey, rascal,” said Dylan. Dylan looked surprised when Matty ran over and hugged him tight. “Hey. It’s alright.”
“I thought…” he said with a shaky breath. He was crying and you squeezed your eyes shut. God, if Dylan was lying to you, it would destroy Matthew. When you opened them Dean was nudging your side.
“Look at Dylan,” he mumbled in your ear. It took a moment to realize that the loud crying wasn’t coming from Matty. Dylan had his head buried in your little brother’s shoulder, his back heaving. “When’s the last time he got a hug you think?”
“Eighteen years old,” you said.
“I’m okay, Matty,” said Dylan, wiping his face off. “I’m just really happy to see you.”
“Are you gonna stay? Dylan can stay right?” he asked, looking over at the three of you. You nodded and they both smiled. “Oh! This is my dog, Maggie. I just got her. She’s really good at tricks. Remember we were gonna get one?”
“I remember,” said Dylan, giving her a few pets. “You’ll have to show me later. We had a long night.”
“Why don’t you head back to bed, Matty? It’s still early,” said Sam.
“Okay. You guys gonna be here when I wake up?” he asked.
“Yeah, we’ll be here,” you said. “You’re making breakfast later, alright?”
“Alright,” he said. He headed inside with the dog and shut the door the four of you going up to the chairs on the front porch.
“Still want to hurt him?” you asked. Dylan shook his head and took a deep breath. “He doesn’t ever need to know what you said.”
“Thank you,” he said. “He seems good.”
“He is,” you said. “Before I fall asleep, can we go over this?”
“Sammy, like we texted on the way up, Dylan has some information about Lewis, about what happened when we were kids,” said Dean.
“I looked into some stuff last night while you guys were driving,” said Sam. “Dylan, you can tell your piece first.”
“Lewis is a grade A piece of shit,” said Dylan. “We can all agree on that. But he was pushed into becoming one. Or should I say, he gave into being one due to circumstance. You knew Lewis as your neighbor, right? Younger guy with a lot of money, parents recently died?”
“Yeah,” said Dean, sitting back in his chair.
“All that is true. What you didn’t know is that Lewis was married. He had a daughter too. The parents, along with Lewis’ wife and daughter, all died in a car accident,” said Dylan.
“I mean, that’s sad and explains where the money came from but-” said Dean, Dylan shaking his head.
“Lewis earned some of his fortune through his parents passing, that part is true. But he made a lot of it another way. Working at Winchester Corp. Junior Vice President, reporting directly to John Winchester,” said Dylan.
“No Lewis ever was a member of the corporate board,” said Sam.
“Because Lewis isn’t his real name. He bought a new identity for himself. He changed his appearance, dyed his hair, lost weight. By the time your family met Lewis, John Winchester had no idea he was actually speaking to his former employee.”
“Who was he?” you asked. “Lewis.”
“He was Jim Hockley,” said Dylan.
“Wasn’t that the guy that drove drunk and killed his family?” said Sam.
“You did your research, Sam. Yes, that’s what every paper, media outlet, even police report said. Except Jim was never in that car. John Winchester was. He got drunk at a corporate family party but you boys know your father. He could fool the best of them,” said Dylan.
“Dad didn’t have a drinking problem,” said Sam. Dean sighed and closed his eyes. “Not back then. After the attack, yeah, he did but-”
“Sammy, dad had problems. You were little but mom and dad fought about it. He pushed her once. I saw and pushed back. I never broke my two fingers on the swing set,” said Dean. “We just said that. It was a one time thing though and as soon as he realized he’d grabbed me too hard…”
“So dad was a drunk,” said Sam, scratching his head.
“Yes, he was,” said Dylan. “Jim left this party to go do some work up in the office for a few hours. John took it upon himself to drive Jim’s company car and take his family home. He ended up driving straight into a pole. John in his inebriated state was fine. Jim’s parents and wife were killed on impact. The daughter, due to her grandparents protecting her in a split second, didn’t die. John sobered up quickly, the daughter crawled out the back, and in that moment, John realized his life was about to be over if there was a witness. So he grabbed a shard of broken glass and stabbed the only witness. John quickly got out of there, made his way back to the company, cleaned himself up and went back to the party. Twenty minutes later police came and arrested Jim on a slew of charges. He was drinking at the party too so he was easily over the legal limit. Jim didn’t understand any of this until his lawyer provided an autopsy report on his daughter. There was an inconsistency and Jim put it all together. He confronted John while out on bail and he all but admitted it. John had no remorse. Jim knew he couldn’t win the court case so he ran. He ran, changed his name, and set out to destroy John’s life. One child for another except Jim wasn’t going to be satisfied with just that. He wanted John to suffer and making his child suffer for the rest of their life seemed like a good compromise. It’s never been about you Dean. You were unlucky was all, just like Y/N was.”
“What do you mean?” you asked.
“Sam, Jim’s family. Look up a picture on your phone for me,” said Dylan. You turned your head, Sam going still after a moment. “Yeah. I know.”
“Y/N, you look just like her, the daughter,” said Sam, spinning the phone around. At first glance you would have thought that was you in the photo on the screen.
“He saw us out to dinner one night he said. It’s when his little plan all came together,” said Dylan.
“But last night, you said the stuff about the FBI and my dad hating Y/N,” said Dean.
“Dean, your father made so many of his millions running drug through the company. He traded that information for witness protection for him and Sam. You though, you your father made a deal with Lewis that day he attacked your family. He’d let Lewis have you if he left Sam alone. So you stayed out, on your own, the FBI gave protection for the information and by the time you took over the company again, the company was clean of any past indiscretions. You would have never known. The FBI never gave two shits about Lewis. As far as they were concerned, your family was attacked because of a drug deal gone wrong,” said Dylan.
“What about the hating me part?” you asked.
“Well...Lewis didn’t happen upon our family on his own. John saw us first, right after Lewis confronted him. He offered to tell Lewis who we were so he could have his daughter back if he left the Winchesters alone. Lewis came up with a different plan.”
“So you’re saying our dad killed Lewis’ parents, his wife, murdered a little girl who he could have saved, offered me to Lewis and offered up Y/N too all to save his own ass?” asked Dean.
“Unfortunately, yes,” said Dylan.
“Telling stories without permission?” said Lewis from out of nowhere. You jumped as he walked around the corner of the cabin, a large gun in his hand. “No one move.”
“I swear,” said Dylan, staring at you. “I didn’t-”
“Oh, I put a tracker in your back years ago,” said Lewis. “Wasn’t your fault. Sounds like the kiddos know the full story now. Here’s how this goes. Dean-”
“Shut the fuck up,” said Dean. He stood up and stepped down onto the grass, the rest of you following after. “Just shut the fuck up. I am sorry your family died you waste of human space, I am. No matter who you are and what you’ve done to all of us, they didn’t deserve that and especially a child. But we were kids too. All of us and Matty. You killed our moms. You killed their dad. You hurt all of us. You already got your fucking revenge. You have a problem with John, then fine but that is his problem. We never did a damn thing wrong and we’re done being afraid of you.”
Lewis looked back and forth a few times before his gaze fell on you.
“I’d be ashamed if you were my father,” you said. “I used to think you were evil. Now I know you’re just pathetic.”
“I’m too deep in this now,” said Lewis, aiming his gun. “I know you’re right. I’ve known you’re right for a very long time. So don’t move and none of you will even feel a thing.”
You heard a shot and Dean shoved you to the ground. He felt all over you but you weren’t hit. You sat up with him, Lewis laying on the ground, coughing up blood. To your left your saw Matty, holding a shotgun.
“Okay,” said Dylan rushing over when Matty went a little wide eyed. “It’s okay.”
“He was…” he said.
“I know. Let’s go put this back inside. Maybe Maggie can show me a few tricks now, huh?” said Dylan. “You got him covered?”
“Yeah. Take care of Matty,” you said, Dean walking over and picking up the gun Lewis had dropped. When they were out of view Dean cocked the gun, Lewis trying to take a deep breath.
“Go ahead. I deserve it,” coughed Lewis. Dean aimed the gun lower and shot him in the leg, Lewis groaning. “Kill me.”
“I give you about four minutes before you bleed out. I want you to enjoy every single one of those,” said Dean, putting the safety back on the gun.
“Your father is a coward. He killed your family as much as I did. He wanted to give Sam and you both to me. He never cared for you. If he wanted to find me, he would have done it years ago,” he said.
“You kill bad people, Jim. You don’t hurt the innocent ones. When you don’t know the difference or just don’t care, that’s what makes you a monster. Don’t worry about my father. I’d be more concerned with where you’re going to wind up very, very soon.”
Lewis didn’t say anything more, just groaned a few times before he went quiet and still.
“What do you want to do with him,” said Sam eventually.
“I’ll take care of it. You don’t know how to clean up a body,” said Dean. “Y/N, go make sure your brothers are okay.”
“John offered my family up to slaughter,” you said.
“He lost any good will I had for him at murdering a little girl to save himself. We’ll figure out a plan for our dad. At least he’s not actively trying to kill us,” said Dean.
“But he wanted Lewis to catch us. He didn’t care, Dean,” said Sam.
“He’s not going to get off, Sammy. I think we have an answer right in front of us,” he said nodding towards Lewis. “Dad’s only cared about his own survival, right? He doesn’t know Lewis is dead. We get him to confess to the past murder, point the evidence towards Lewis’ death, get him caught in a trap.”
“It’d be easier to kill him,” mumbled Sam.
“Which is why we’re gonna talk about it in a little bit. Lewis just died. I need a minute, alright? Thank you,” said Dean. He walked off and over to a shed on the property, finding a tarp inside and tossing it over Lewis. He walked off around to the back of the cabin, leaving you and Sam to yourselves.
“Just because Lewis said that stuff to Dylan doesn’t make it true,” said Sam.
“You said you researched. Did you ever come across Jim Hockley?” you asked.
“It lines up with what Dylan said. Lewis was smart, he could have…” said Sam, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Do you think your father is capable of something like that?” you asked.
“Sadly, yes,” said Sam.
“We don’t…” you said, Sam turning towards you.
“Could you kill Dylan if you had to?” he asked.
“If I had no other choice, I could,” you said. “To protect my family.”
“Does that include me and Dean?” he asked. You made a face and Sam smiled. “Stupid question.”
“I guess the question is, is John a threat to us?” you asked.
“I don’t think that’s the question, Y/N,” said Sam. “Dean said it himself. When you don’t care about hurting innocent people, that’s when you become a monster. We both know what Dean does to monsters.”
“I know. Come inside. I need some coffee,” you said. You went into the cabin, Dylan sitting on the couch with Matty, giving a quick smile that everything was alright. Sam veered off into the kitchen as you watched Dean sitting on the back porch step.
After you had two cups in hand, you went outside, taking a seat beside him.
“Thanks,” he said, taking a sip from the mug you handed him. “Those guys okay?”
“Yeah. The nightmare is over to them it seems,” you said.
“Still a nightmare,” said Dean. “That dream we had, living back home in town, marriage, kids, getting Matty a place nearby, Sam too...it was all just a stupid dream, wasn’t it.”
“Lewis is dead in the front yard. I’d think we should be celebrating.”
“My dad single-handedly destroyed your family. Your parents were murdered. Your brothers have been detained for well over a decade. You were forced to kill. How in the ever living fuck do you not hate me with every fiber of-”
You grabbed his face and kissed him, Dean surprised at first but slowly easing into it. You broke off and cupped his cheek, Dean’s green eyes staring straight into your own.
“I love you and I’m always going to love you, De. What John did is on him, not your or Sam or anyone else. You are still the person I know loves me and will protect me and gives my brothers a chance,” you said. You took his free hand in yours, Dean closing his eyes. “We are still going to have all of those things.”
“I don’t deserve you,” he said, opening his eyes and giving you a sad smile.
“Yeah, you do. It’s almost over and then we can go live the rest of our lives safely,” you said.
“It’s already happening,” said Dean, rubbing his hand over his face. You cocked your head and he took a deep breath. “I called the old FBI touch point guy I had when I was a kid a few minutes ago. I told him my father reached out to me and was in trouble with something but wouldn’t say specifics. I told them where to meet my dad.”
“You know where your dad is?” you asked.
“Yeah. He didn’t know to be hiding from us so he didn’t,” said Dean.
“How does that solve anything?” you asked.
“Because my father is about to get into a shoot out with the FBI and he will not walk away from it,” said Dean.
“How do you know?” you asked.
“Because I told them he said he murdered a little girl,” said Dean. “I told them he admitted to Hockley’s daughter murder. He’s too much of a coward to leave alive.”
“Are you sure that’ll work?”
“I’ll know in about an hour I suppose.”
Two Hours Later
“Lewis is officially disposed of and never to be seen again,” said Dean, washing up his hands as he came back inside the cabin. You were settled on the couches around the TV, watching the news coverage. “Is dad dead?”
“Shot himself,” said Sam. “They had the house covered and he started spewing nonsense from what they’re saying before he did it. He admitted to the accident and the girl apparently. I’m sure your PR department is having a field day with this.”
“They’re going to re-open the DWI case and Jim Hockley’s disappearance,” you said.
“You’re probably gonna have to give a statement,” said Sam.
“That’s fine,” said Dean. He took a seat beside you and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you back into his chest. He kissed the top of your head and you looked up, Dean’s eyes a little red.
“S’okay,” you whispered. “It’s done with, Dean.”
He tugged you up and you went back to one of the bedrooms, Dean leading you over to the bed to lay down.
“You want to take a nap?” you asked.
“Want to be alone with you for a little while. I just got my dad killed. I don’t...I don’t know how to feel about that,” he said, laying back on the bed. You went with him, wrapping yourself all around him as he sighed. “I loved him and I’m not sure that he ever loved us. Even after knowing everything he did to us, got done to us...I don’t want to feel bad about what just happened but I do.”
“Dean, do you remember when you told me about that time your spilled your dad’s whiskey on him in his office? You were about nine, you said.”
“Yeah?”
“Do you remember telling me what your dad did when you ruined his suit pants? Your mom and Sam were out shopping. It was just you two. You remember how he punished you?”
“But they had to be $500 pants at least. They were expensive. The alcohol was probably another hundred,” said Dean.
“Are you saying that accidentally wasting six hundred dollars deserves a hand on a hot burner?” you said. Dean shook his head and closed his eyes. “You had to lie about how you got it too. Dean. Even before your father destroyed Jim Hockley’s life, he was an abusive drunk that hurt his own family. Who knows what more he would have done to you as you got older. I know you loved him and I want you to grieve if you need to. But just feel however you need to. Be upset about it, be happy. Just don’t feel guilty for whatever you need to feel.”
“I’m sorry I doubted you, when Lewis said that stuff over the radio,” he said.
“Did you doubt me? Or did you just think ‘no, she wouldn’t’ a lot?” you asked. He blinked and you shrugged. “You looked so confused. It was so obvious you were confused, De.”
“I just...I got overwhelmed,” said Dean. “It’s so rare I’m not in control that I don’t think I knew what to do.”
“This time you do,” you said, carding your fingers through his hair, Dean closing his eyes. “Be overwhelmed and fall apart, Dean. I’m right here.”
“Y/N, you have all your shit you’re going through too,” he said.
“I might fall apart too,” you said. “Just stay close and we’ll get through today like we have every other bad one.”
“I love you,” he said.
“I love you too, Dean.”
Three Weeks Later
“Matty! We’re gonna leave without you if you don’t hurry up,” said Dean from near the front door. You’d been back home in town for close to three weeks. Dean had given a statement about his father that was a lot angry but sad enough to make it clear John had been a lone wolf in his operations. Sam was officially alive again after a very long discussion with the FBI. Dylan had his new identity and was learning most days with Sam and Matty. Your brothers were making plans about what to do with themselves but it sounded like they were both interested in college at the moment. “Matthew!”
“I’m coming!” said Matty as he jogged down the hall from your old bedroom. He slipped on his sneakers and was out the front door before the rest of you, the five of you piling into Dean’s SUV.
“Should be about half hour. Hopefully we can avoid traffic,” said Dean.
“I want nachos,” said Matty. “And a hotdog. And a beer.”
“He is 21,” you said when Dean gave you a look.
“You don’t want that watered down crap. I mean, we’re gonna drink it, but were gonna get you an IPA later on, then you’ll see what beer is,” said Matty.
“How about a pale ale instead?” said Sam.
“Sammy. Lager,” said Dean.
“Matty how about a wine cooler? They taste like fruit juice,” you said.
“Oh, that sounds yummy,” said Matty.
“Maybe we can get some on the way home,” you said. Dean rolled his eyes but smiled, driving along with the radio on low. “Hey boys. Dean and I have something we want to tell you.”
“You’re getting engaged, finally,” said Sam.
“In the bahamas,” said Matty.
“On the not so secret vacation you have planned for all of us coming up,” said Dylan.
“How do you know about that?” you asked.
“You guys are kinda obvious when you’re up to something,” said Sam. “You sure you want Matty around a bunch of college aged girls? He’ll have to beat them off with a stick.”
“Me? No way. I’ve never even had a crush on a girl. Or kissed one,” said Matty.
“You’re cute and sweet. You wouldn’t have any trouble,” you said. “But yes, we’re going on vacation, spoil sports.”
“It’ll be a lot of fun,” said Dean. “And no, we’re not getting engaged.”
“We’re not?” you asked.
“Well it’s gonna be a surprise,” said Dean. “Don’t worry. It’ll come when it comes.”
“Alright, alright,” you said.
A little more than a half hour later you were parked, Sam walking ahead with the guys while you hung back with Dean.
“How you feeling today?” you asked as Dean grabbed a green cooler out of the back.
“Alright. I was watching the news this morning. For a split second, I felt bad for Jim Hockley. If dad hadn’t done those things and made him snap, he’d probably be CFO right now or something,” said Dean.
“I think Jim died a long, long time ago. A monster replaced him.”
“Do you ever think I snapped? Like after I accidentally killed that guy as a teenager and found out I liked it?” asked Dean, sitting down in the back area of the SUV.
“No. You never snapped. You never have,” you said.
“What makes you say that?”
“Because you know the difference about good and bad and how there is a gray area to all of it. You care about innocent people, you always have. You didn’t snap, Dean,” you said. “That’s what makes you good. You stop the monsters. You’re not one of them.”
“You doing okay today?” he asked.
“Yeah. Nervous about Matty but he looks like he’s doing good so far,” you said. “I guess we have to get used to normal is all.”
“Eh, normal for us,” said Dean, leaning back. He nodded across the way towards a group of guys tailgating. “One of them killed his wife for the insurance. Got away with it.”
“Dean. After vacation,” you said. He chuckled and nodded. “Want to go watch some football?”
“I would love to, sweetheart. I really would.”

if you pass by your soulmate but don’t meet them, the day you passed them will repeat over and over until you finally find them. (Ted and ??? )
oh my god and this would have been when Ted started working at THE OFFICE!!! Which totally fucking works for... CCRPOLY!!! All of them!!!
So He goes through his first day, getting all introduced and he’s funny but a lil slimy as a first impression instead of an unbearable douche (that happens after a few weeks of working with him)
He meets Bill, he meets Paul, Davidson, Melissa, Charlotte, some tech and warehouse employees, and to welcome him to the office they all go out for coffee and he meets Emma, too.
When Ted wakes up to the same damn day he’s kind of annoyed that This was the day, because first of all- it almost HAD to be one of his new coworkers, and secondly, that would take for Fucking Ever to figure out. Spending each day dwelling on one person with the odds slim would mean he’d be replaying this day for a week.
So he does, getting more and more frustrated because he kissed Bill in the parking lot and it felt Real but no, he wakes up to his first day again.
And Charlotte feels so comfortable to vent about her marriage (probably because she’s had to find soulmates that are Not her husband on 3 seperate occasions before now) and Ted and her share a cigarette and hold hands and he is in love with giving himself up for tragedy so He thinks it has to Be Charlotte but it ISN’T
So it’s got to be the assistant. Melissa’s pretty, but Ted feels awkward just talking to her, about how she looks at him. He quickly decides that he does not want someone to be his soulmate cause they see their Dad in him, so he actually gives up halfway through the day and speedruns through Davidson and the I.T department, beginning to flirt- He actually gets in quite a bit of trouble, so he’s almost hoping to replay the day.
And he does. He’s almost visibly bored and upset as the day progresses, and that’s when Paul notices him. And some kind of fire lights when Paul Notices Him. Ted’s thinking this has to be it, but his thoughts still manage to wander even as he bonds with Paul. He actually tells Paul he’s trying to find his soulmate. Paul thinks its very sweet, and its so charming that Ted has admitted this after spending a whole day with him. And then He admits he’s had several repeat days in the span of the last year, and this is one of them. They’re both convinced, and in their excitement hook up at Pauls place.
Something hurts within Ted when he wakes up in his own bed. He remineces the three people who have made him feel like this, and how he already cares about each of them.
And he decides the world must be a sick cruel place after all, so instead of focusing at work he speaks to those he brushes by, every single one of them. Learns their names.
Nothing. He wakes up more frustrated than before, far earlier than he’s supposed to due to restless sleeping.
So Ted, at 5 am, with 2 hours to spare until work, goes to Beanies. And he finally really gets to meet Emma. Because who the hell else in hatchetfield is getting coffee at this local version of starbucks at 5:30? So Ted begins to think- hey. This is my soulmate. She’s my soulmate.
In a spur of sudden confidence he asks her on a date, actually. Well, It’s not a date. He offers to take her to a different establishment somewhere else and taste something better than coffee, and she agrees to meet him when she gets off.
And its Lovely. It really is. While Ted is pondering over Emma being his soulmate, he’s also pondering over the other 3 he’s fallen a little in love with. And he feels terrible about it. But this has to be it, right? She’s one of the last people he met on this day. They have firecracker chemistry. He kisses her at the door of her appartment complex and she writes her number on his wrist all cheeky with a signature. They make out at the door of her appartment complex, But it’s Ted who has to pull away and bid her goodnight when all he remembers is how Bill tasted in that parking lot.
He shakes the feeling as he walks home, only punching Emma’s number into his phone as he slips into bed. ‘Goodnight, princess.’
He’s barely concious when the response comes. ‘G’Night, asshole.’ He beams, plunging into a restful sleep.
Ted wakes up slowly, for the first time. He rubs his eyes and something feels off. Maybe that something means it’s a new day, right? He can’t help his sleepy smile as his eyes adjust, reaching for his phone. If Emma just broke him out of this hell, she certainly deserves a good morning.
And then he can’t find the conversation, which is weird, but maybe its cause he was too tired to give her a contact name. He looks to his arm for the digits
It takes about a minute for shock to dissolve into some kind of frustrated sadness. He always thought he didn’t deserve a soulmate, but he didn’t know an eternal first day at work would be the result of his self deprication.
But he gets up. He doesn’t know how, but theres still a little drive in him.
Ted’s been fueled by the lifetimes he thinks he’s lost.
So he goes to work. He chats up paul on break and gains his attention cause he knows how to now.
He talks with Charlotte at lunch, but instead of just holding her hand for comfort he admits that Sam sounds like an asshole, and she deserves someone who legitimately could fall in love with her. Every morning. Not just once. And this time they Kiss. And Ted’s delighted enough to decide if the day repeats he’s doing the exact same fucking thing for forever when they do.
Ted chats with Paul at the end of the day, and something drives Paul to kiss his cheek. Something very similar drives Ted to squeeze at his hand and double-check he has his number. It’s another moment he’ll revisit when he wakes up today, but for now he’s living in the current today when he spots Bill.
He tells Bill he’d love to get to know him, cause they’d be working so closely. He teases Bill about his dresshirt while he’s at it, and Ted’s delighted when a flustered Bill offers beanies. Because he’ll see Emma before she gets off.
And he hits on her, just to see how corny he can be and still land her number. Instead of in his wrist this time, Ted gets a scrible on his coffee cup. But it feels just as right, when he goes back and gives Bill his drink. “What, you said surprise you- it’s called a frappecino, Come on you’ll like it.”
And Bill and Ted are at beanies until closing. Ted listens, which is a new sensation, but he does. As Bill talks and asks for some kind of sympathy which Ted gives generously. Bill’s situation is shit. He wants nothing more than to help him out of it. He places his hand on Bill’s, and not even two minutes later Bill is walking out nervously, citing something about his daughter as he nervously puts his coat on
And this is really new. Ted didn’t know what he had done, honestly. He calls after him, manages to stop him in the parking lot. The sun is going down when he finally puts a hand on bills shoulder. “What- what’s wrong- We can really just forget it, I’m sorry, Bill i just-“ “I can’t- I just can’t-“ “can’t-what?” “You. Again.”
Ted’s left with some kind of shock in his stomach as Bill heads to his car. “Again?” He repeats, but Bill’s already got the doors shut and Ted Can’t Move.
He blows it. He can feel it, when he walks home. He doesn’t even bother texting Emma.
He goes to sleep, knowing what he’s going to wake up to. And gets ready like he did the very first time. Goes to work like he did the first time. Does everything like the first time, cause he knows they’ll all go to beanies.
He gets everyone their coffee, as in their favourite kind, without prompt, and asks very politely if Emma can take it to the table for them. He tips her 50 bucks, and assures the rest of them he’ll cover their bills.
They sit at a table and the other three try to get Ted caught up on work details or people he may not know enough about. He quiets them as their coffees come, and before Charlotte can ask him how he knew how much she liked chai lattes, he clears his throat and asks emma to just take a breath here.
“Alright. It’s my Fucking millionth time doing this day. And I have a theory. Paul, you mentioned something about multiple repeat days? No- not today, the second today.” He pressures, and all Paul can do is nod and blush, muting himself with his black coffee. “Good. Now, we’ve all been here before, haven’t we?” Ted’s eyes are on Bill now, who can’t hold the stare. Emmas transfixed now, nodding a little. “You know-“ “sshhhh, princess. I do know. Multiple soulmates exist. You typically pick the one you find first or the one closest to you- but look what happened, huh?”
“What happened?” Charlotte questions, and ted stands, grabbing for his iced latte and lookinh down. “Nothing, Charlotte. I just fell in love with all four of you. Because I think you’re all my soulmates.” Ted gets it out, looking over puzzled faces. “Damnit- it doesn’t matter, does it. Because either you’re not and I wake up today again, none of you remember, or you ARE all my soulmates, and tomorrow we talk that out. I’m exhausted, theres my number.” He points to the scrap paper on the table.
“I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” He dismisses, and then He’s Gone.
He wakes up to 3 messages, but 1 comes up as he finally rises from bed.
‘Good morning, asshole.’

The saying went something like, monsters are created not born. And that was exactly how Ria Flicke felt about the demon - or demons, plural, depending on the day - inside of her. It wasn’t always dark, but it was fed enough that it grew and grew until she didn’t know what it felt like to not have the darkness inside of her.
Some of the creation was self-inflicted. It wasn’t like she knew how to walk away from a bad situation or how to let the light win out, no, she let the darkness win and that was her own fault. Over the past few months of alone time and wrestling with questions and curiosities, she managed to figure out how and where the darkness was cultivated, fed and nurtured by the people that were meant to protect her.
AUGUST 17th, 2010, FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT (14 years old)
Move in day for Faircrest Preparatory School. Day one of one million of learning to be a spy. Mariana thought that it would be a good idea for Leon to drive Ria to move in. After all, he worked at Faircrest, and she thought it’d be good for the younger Flicke to finally get to know her father.
Needless to say, it did not get off to a good start. Ria knew two things: her mother was cryptic about her father and the only way to get adults to pay attention to her was to be annoying. And she had lots of questions for Leon which meant she would be extra annoying.
“Don’t put your feet up there,” Leon turned over to his daughter, who had perched her feet on the all white car dash. “You’re going to get it dirty.” “What?” Ria didn’t dignify him with even a glance, she instead focused on picking a scab on her calf. “Maria-” “Ria.” “Maria,” Leon huffed, “Take your feet off the dash or we’re not leaving this driveway… What did you do to yourself anyway?” “Fell off my bike.” “Don’t you know how to ride a bike?” Picking at the scab until she got it to bleed again (because it definitely made her dad cringe), “Yes. I let go.” “Why?” “It made mom freak out.” She finally moved her feet from the dash, pleased with the furrowed brow her father now had. “And why in the world would you want to do that?” Leon asked in a deadpan tone, clearly frustrated with his daughter’s antics. “It proved mom cares. Somewhere. She got worried.”
The frustration on Leon’s face morphed into one of pride, but in the blink of an eye it was back to neutral. “You’re already thinking like a spy. What has your mother taught you so far?” “Nothing, I’ve known for all of like, three months.” “Alright. Well, we have about six hours ahead of us-” “Joy.” “Don’t interrupt me, Maria. I can’t have my daughter not knowing anything about spyhood. You’re already starting Faircrest at a disadvantage.”
That spoke to the competitive side of Ria and all, but she thought that this ride would be a way to get to know the man she’d wondered about for years. “You’re going to spend six hours talking to me about spy stuff and not like… anything about me?” “I didn’t say that. Anyways, I’ll see you all year on campus, we have plenty of time to get to know each other.” “Ooookay. Weird, but, fine, talk to me about your spy life or whatever…” Her voice trailed off into silence.
Leon glanced over at her, “What were you about to say?” Chewing on her bottom lip, Ria was silent for a little longer before speaking up. “I wanted to ask you a question.” “Fine, ask it then.” “Do you love me?” The words sounded sharp to hide the fear inside. “I don’t know.” Sitting up straighter, the blonde’s face dropped, “How do you not know? I’m your daughter.” “We just met.” “So?” “So,  I need time to decide.” “Do you think you ever will?” “We’ll see.” And he wouldn’t. ‘I love you’ were three words he’d never say. “Fine… Tell me about this spy shit.” “Language.”
JUNE 8th, 2010, FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT (17 years old) Whether she wanted to listen to her father or not (spoiler: she didn’t!), Ria wanted to be top of her class. Success was something she could control. Success gave her purpose. Success made it all worth it. So as much as she hated Leon Calder with everything in her being, she kept note of all of his rules and the subsequent tests and trials in a tiny leather bound notebook. It was a pale pink, embossed with “Maria” on the cover - which she had since scratched up with pens and keys until it only read Ria.
With graduation on the corner - and a four year break from spyhood (her parents hated that one) on the horizon - she flicked through the pages, a walk down a very bumpy memory lane.
Rule 1: Control the conversation What’s it mean: - Have conviction in what you say - Stand by your words, even if they’re questionable - Don’t get stuck in webs of lies - Take pride in attention - good or bad - throws people off their game when you embrace an insult
Rule 2: Head not heart What’s it mean: - Don’t lead with emotions ever - Look at things logically bc that’s trustworthy, emotions are fickle - Tears are weakness - avoid at all costs!!!
8/30/10 - first week @ faircrest, dad got me a xanax prescription. told me it’s better to feel nothing than something. haven’t tried it yet 2/1/12 - (middle of soph. year.) - i think i’m addicted  4/29/14 - i’m graduating in 2 months. Idk how to feel bc i don’t think i’ve felt anything in four years. 8/2/14 - i don’t trust my own head
Rule 3: Don’t have a blindspot What’s it mean: - Falling in love means youre caught up in another person - Getting caught up in another person is a weak point - A lover will betray you or will be used against you - Lust =/= love, lust is ok.
11/1/13 - i don’t think ive cared about a single person ive slept with. like at all.
Rule 4: Know what you’re walking into What’s it mean: - Awareness is key - Evaluate every situation in full - ALWAYS keep your guard up or you’ll get backstabbed
12/21/10 - was @ home for christmas, dad snuck up behind me and threw a knife. i ducked in time. said i need to get better at awareness. Wtf.
After twenty or so blank pages, one page of the notebook had a few words written on it in all capitals. They were written more cleanly than the notes and scribbles of yesteryear, clearly written by an older Ria with stronger penmanship.
I THINK IM A MONSTER.
SEPTEMBER THROUGH NOVEMBER, 2020, ROSEVILLE, VA (24 years old)
The fires the year prior had been the first time that Ria remembered crying in over ten years. Something cracked inside of her as the buildings and all she’d used to ground herself started to fall and crackle apart. It was what pushed her to look inside of her. To know why she held so tightly onto the lessons and learnings from two people that couldn’t care less about her. It was what sent her to therapy.
There were no diagnoses to be found, apart from a self-inflicted dependence on unhealthy relationships and her vices. She lacked the remorse and violence to be a psychopath, and she didn’t have the swings of anger that hallmarked aggression disorders. What was there instead was a shell, a guard that presented itself as sociopathy - but she knew what she was doing, she had remorse, that was where the questions began. How could you display every trait in the book but be ‘normal’ inside?
The revelation of Blackthorne as a school for assassins had opened up even more of a can of worms, but she ignored it until the start of her third year, as she continued to try and understand what was going on inside of her head. Leon had gone to Blackthorne, yet the alumni didn’t seem to recognize his name. Something was up.
With the help of one of her Faircrest friends, Tobi, she was able to find more on her father. More on his employment records and his history. He’d begun going by his middle name after graduating Blackthorne, Leon Calder instead of Malcolm Calder. Hardly a criminal offense. He had a cross listing with the MI5 (expected, she knew her parents met in London) and a private agency ‘Atkinson Associates’. Further digging revealed it as a hitman agency, one that her father was still actively employed with.
Once she had that, and access to the files of the company, she went to dig on her own - not wanting to pull anyone else deeper into the mess. The employee roster and files were what she really wanted. Clicking on her father’s, she read through the notes, feeling a gross pit building in her stomach as she learned more. Kill count: 117. Use for: High profile, quickturn jobs. Works both individually and with partners.
Noting that the word partners was linked, Ria clicked on it, skimming quickly over unknown names until she settled on the name of a former partner. One she knew too well. Mariana Alice Flicke.
“No…. no no no…” But she couldn’t stop, she had to know more about her mother. Kill count: 2. Use for: Track erasure and evidence destruction.
She didn’t know if it made her feel better or worse that her mother was typically non-violent… Even if she condoned the violence. Blue eyes kept scanning the profile of her mom. Employment Terminated: September 30, 1995 Reason: Pregnancy.
“No wonder he hates me so fucking much.” She took Mariana out of the field, she took his partner away… But that wasn’t her fault! Hovering over the word pregnancy, Ria’s brow furrowed. Another link. There was no reason that needed to be linked. Everyone knew how pregnancy worked!
After a long stare off with the link, she finally clicked on it. The curiosity eating away at her. It pulled up what looked like an incomplete profile, one with nothing but the key statistics. And she didn’t even need to read them, they were ones she knew by heart. Name: Maria Grace Flicke Date of Birth: June 6, 1996 Start Date: To Be Determined.
She wanted to stop scrolling, but her hand kept moving, the answers were finally there. Whether she liked them or not.
Current Status:
Atkinson Associates Case study 001.:  Nature versus Nurture
- Developing the mindset of an assassin from day one - Utilizing upbringing to control later characteristics, thought processes, and disposition
None of her mania was an accident. It was all part of a bigger plan that she never wanted to be a part of. Each demon was planted inside of her by the people that were supposed to love her most.
And the only way she could deal with this was to let out an ear-piercing wail.

CHAPTER FOUR
“If you two don’t stop eye fucking I’m gonna have to call HR,” Andy whispered with a smile in Zoey’s ear, hip checking her as he passed.
Zoey forced her eyes off of Brett from the other side of the bar and felt around her chin to make sure she hadn’t drooled. Two weeks had passed since they had slept together and the sexual tension between them only seemed to grow. Flirting only barely seemed to get her by and Andy consistently pointed out that she was staring again.
“Why don’t you just fuck in the storage room and be done with it? Y'all are making me horny just looking at you two,” Andy dumped ice into a shaker and started mixing a drink for a patron.
Zoey finished weighing out the last of the liquor for inventory and looked at him incredulously, “Why would you put that in my head? Do you think anyone would notice?”
Andy stopped what he was doing and stared at her in disbelief before rolling his eyes dramatically and finished the cocktail. She had gotten her set schedule after the first week, having the same schedule as Andy and work overlapping typically by the second half of Brett’s shift, except Mondays. Mondays were her only early shift day with Brett, ending at 9 PM, and were usually slow, so the night seemed to drag. Luckily, with her new schedule she’d be off Tuesdays and Wednesdays and she works late shift the rest of the week which means more patrons and more tips. And since she worked at a high end bar, most people tended to tip really well. A little cleavage helped, too.
The only downside to working nights was that no one was really home during the day. The only time the girls had was around dinner to catch up and chat, and they had weekends during the day time if no one made plans. But, Aurora’s been really busy with photo and video shoots, interviews, and meetings, and even though Nancy didn’t work a typical nine to five office job, she was still really busy piecing her work together in her room or out of the apartment for a meeting or to prepare fo some kind of deadline with her manager.
Luckily, her hours matched up with Harry’s schedule pretty well, even though he was on the other side of the country. At night, he obviously had a show to perform, usually while Zoey was at work, but the rest of his day typically consisted of either traveling, small meetings with his tour team, rehearsing, or all three. Still, he always found time to respond to her texts.
Their friendship was strange because they’ve only known each other for two weeks (three if you count the one day they spoke when she first moved in), but it feels like it’s been much longer. She often had to remind herself that he doesn’t know her family and never met Michael, Katie, or Jess whenever they talk about her home life, which was often.
At least once a day, without fail, Harry would ask her to tell him more about Jess, or a memory that she was fond of growing up. The questions always came at the perfect time and he seemed genuinely interested to hear what she had to say, engaging in the conversation. It helped Zoey to talk about Jess - it made her feel as though her best friend’s memory wasn’t fading. That someone cared enough to learn and talk about her in a positive way.
A brief phone call with her family made her realize this when her mom started crying that she missed Zoey and compared her daughter moving across the country to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis losing their daughter in a car accident; that she doesn’t get to see her anymore. Zoey knew she didn’t mean for it to be so insensitive, but her mom got an earful after that.
During a text conversation with her little sister, Katie, Zoey was filling her in on her outings with her new friends and a simple ‘you deserve to have nice friends again. Jess would have wanted it. I’m happy for you.’ made her bawl, though she’d never tell Katie that. Instead, she ran to Harry to talk about it.
She noticed during one of their chats the week prior that Harry was the only person she’d talk to about Jess without crying. And to prove her point, she had a quick catch up with Michael, and just the memory of the three of them together made her get emotional. It could have been because Harry didn’t know her personally, or because he’s been through similar situations, but she was grateful for the opportunity to involve Jess in a conversation without sobbing by the end of it.
Herself and Harry had started doing this thing where every time they were being hard on themselves or feeling particularly down, they’d send each other a GIF, video link, or text of a random quote from ‘The Princess Bride’, which always seemed to keep them in check.
Brett started making his way over to her and she hastily got back to work, having some banter with a few of her regulars and grabbing them another glass of beer when she felt a firm hand on her lower back. She drew her attention upwards to Brett who grinned at the men and charmingly joked, “Hello, men. Zoey treating you alright?”
“As always,” they nodded, holding up their newly filled glasses, “She’s our favorite server here.”
“They’re only saying that because I give them beer and let them talk shit,” Zoey smiled at them, shooting them a friendly wink.
“See what I mean? Can’t ask for much else,” one of the men laughed.
Andy overheard the conversation and in passing added a, “she’s just an angel, isn’t she?”
But the men must not have picked up on the sarcasm because they responded, “Yes, she is! Makes no sense why you’re single.”
“Relationships?” Zoey fed into them, “No way. I just got out of a four year relationship. I don’t need to be trapped again so soon.”
It’s not that she didn’t enjoy her relationship with Michael. She did, and he was a lovely guy. It was just her way of communicating with her patrons; by mirroring and matching. It’s how she was able to bond and build relationships so quickly, especially with her regulars. These two in particular loved to talk shit on their wives, so Zoey found ways to add to the conversation without antagonizing the subject. And her favorite trick when having these conversations was to turn their mindset around before they left. Little things to make them ease up on their spouse. Something along the lines of ‘That’s a nice shirt. Did your wife get it for you? She’s got great taste, you look amazing in that!’ or ‘Your wife made you spaghetti for dinner? Lucky guy, I don’t know many women who know how to cook anymore’. Usually little white lies like that made them feel better about their wives without her actually having to say ‘shut the hell up and be nice to your wife, you old dingbat’ and she usually got better tips by the time they left.
The men raised their glasses in agreement to her statement and Brett turned his head to the side, wordlessly asking if he could borrow her for a moment. They stepped towards the back of the bar, doing a quick once over to make sure Andy didn’t need more assistance before he leant against the edge of the counter cooly and asked, “Are we still on for tonight?”
“Yeah. Your shift ends at 9 PM, too, right?” she asked, earning a nod. She continued, “Okay, everyone else will probably take a little longer to get there. Jake and Melissa are gonna be picking up some food, and Andy left a few things at his apartment he needed to grab. So you can always head over with me after work, or meet me there later.”
Nancy had flown back home over the weekend to celebrate her friend’s wedding and spend time with family, and Aurora had gone to Virginia for a shoot where Harry was coincidentally doing a show in the town over which allowed her an opportunity to see him in concert and spend some time with him before he left for the next city in the morning, so Zoey used the empty condo as an opportunity to invite some new friends over for a game night, with her roommates knowledge, of course. All of her friends worked with her on rotating days, so they were used to the hours.
“I’ll just go with you. It’ll be easier that way,” he said casually before his lips twitched upwards, “You know, if you wanted alone time with me, all you had to do was ask.”
“Shut up,” Zoey giggled, playfully hitting his chest.
The rest of their shift steadily got more quiet, slowing out to only six patrons in the bar by the time their shift was over. Andy, Brett, and Zoey clocked out and headed towards the employee parking lot around back.
“I’ll call you when I’m five minutes away. You better not miss my call to let me in ‘cuz y’all are busy humpin’ on the kitchen counter,” Andy shook a key at them with an eyebrow raised, causing the two to laugh.
“I don’t screw where the food goes,” Brett responded, “but the couch is a different story.”
“Nasty,” Andy scrunched his nose at them before getting in his car and starting it up.
Zoey led Brett to her car, slipping into the driver's seat as he rounded to the passenger side. A few stray hairs had fallen from her messy ponytail and she smoothed them back, turning the AC on low fan. Evenings in May seemed to be fairly cool in LA so far. The stereo bluetooth automatically connected to Zoey’s phone and began playing ‘Are You Bored Yet’ by Wallows, which startled her, quickly turning down the volume. Being in such a confined space with Brett made her nervous. He had a distinct smell of beer and coconuts, which seemed like an odd mix, but somehow it worked. She could really stand a few shots right now to ease the tension. Too bad she was driving.
“So what’s the deal with your roommates? They out?” Brett asked as they pulled onto the freeway.
“Yeah, Nancy’s with her family and Rory is in Virginia for work. She might actually be with Harry right now, though,” she noticed the time, doing quick math and realizing it was Midnight on the east coast and Harry was probably done with his show by now, remembering he said he had some kind of after party planned with a few of his band mates and tour members, which she thought was weird for a Monday night.
“Wild that you’re all friends with him. But it seems like everyone knows everyone in LA, so I shouldn’t be surprised. So what’s his deal? Are they dating?”
When he put it that way, she did find it a little crazy. She never put too much thought into the fact that she knew Harry Styles, let alone was on a friendly communicating basis with him. She supposed it was just because of the timing when they met, she wasn’t in the right headspace, so by the time they started getting close, the shock and exposure to him had already sunk in and didn’t seem new.
“Uh...kinda? I don’t know, it’s complicated,” Zoey responded.
And it was true. She honestly had no clue what was going on between Harry and Rory. Honestly, she didn’t even think they knew what was going on with each other. She couldn’t blame them, though. They were both super busy at the moment and their hangout today would only make it a total of five times they’ve seen each other in person. She wasn’t even sure if they had an actual date yet or not.
Brett nodded and a moment of silence filled the car. She felt him staring at her and he shifted his body towards her letting his elbow rest on the center console, his muscular arms so big that they lightly brushed against hers. She did a triple take, the pull of his gaze too strong to ignore, “What?” she asked, putting a hand on her cheek to conceal her blushing.
“You should go on a date with me.”
“What?” she sputtered. He was so straightforward and his confidence in his statement took her off guard. Brett was about to repeat himself when it clicked and she said, “I can’t go on a date with you.”
“Why not? Was I that bad in bed?”
“Well, now that you mention it…” she joked. Brett gasped in mock disappointment and she continued, shaking her head, “We work together. I don’t want things to get sticky at work. Besides, I was serious with what I said tonight. I just got out of a four year relationship. I’m not ready to jump into another one right now. Especially not the first guy I sleep with.”
“It’s a date, Zoey. Not a marriage proposal. We can keep it casual if you want. I just like spending time with you, that’s all. Please? Just one date.”
Zoey paused in contemplation. The idea of keeping things casual with Brett did sound appealing. It reminded her of Nancy and Cade’s situation, almost like a friend’s with benefits. No strings attached. She wasn’t opposed to it. If only Jess were here right now to see a sexy Australian man begging to go on a date with her. Twenty five years in Pennsylvania and she barely turned heads, but a week in LA and she’s getting hit on daily by successful, attractive men and her sexy foreign coworker? The move and personality upgrade was really working out for her and she was kicking herself for not listening to Jess sooner.
“I don’t know...”
“If it’ll make you feel more comfortable we can do a double date with someone. Andy and whoever. Or even Rory and Harry. Whoever you want.”
Zoey pursed her lips in contemplation, “Okay, I’ll think about it.” He smiled widely and Zoey quickly added, “Don’t get your hopes up. I haven’t said yes yet.”
“Good enough for me,” Brett said, a smirk spreading across his face, “So what are the odds of me getting you back in that bed tonight?”
“Slim to none,” she snorted.
“...So you’re saying there’s a chance?”
Once at her condo, Brett took a seat at one end of the sectional while Zoey quickly straightened up and drug out a few games from Nancy’s stash, with her blessing. It didn’t take long for Jake and Melissa to show up with a few two liters of soda, three boxes of pizza, and some wings for everyone to enjoy, and as soon as Andy arrived, twenty minutes later, they all dug in while catching up and joking about different work related instances.
They were in the middle of trying to decide if they wanted to play ‘5 Second Rule’ or ‘Incoherent’ when she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She struggled to pull it out of her tight black pants and saw a text from Harry. Opening it, she saw a GIF of Princess Bride with the quote that read ‘Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something’.
Zoey snorted, typing back, ‘Okay, melodramatic. What happened? Didn’t get a big enough crowd at the concert tonight?’
She placed her phone face down on her thigh and laughed at Andy who was mocking Brett’s accent because he didn’t want to play ‘5 Second Rule’, which Brett was fighting hard for, listing all the pros and cons to the game. Her phone buzzed again, once, twice, and on the third buzz she got confused, thinking he was sending her rapid texts at first, only to turn the phone over and see that Harry was calling her. She hadn’t expected a call from him, and they never spoke over the phone with each other before like he did with Nancy and Rory. Her friends realized she had gotten a phone call and turned to look at her as she stood up.
“One sec,” she called, heading down the hall.
“Hurry! I need you to back me up so we don’t have to start out with this stressful, dumbass game!” Andy called after her.
She heard Brett quickly retort, “You just don’t like it cuz you can’t think quickly!” and a cracking noise that sounded almost like a slap before slipping into her bedroom and closing the door behind her.
Warily, she answered the phone and whispered, “Hello?”
Harry’s deep, exhausted voice sounded through her phone, dramatically quoting another line from Princess Bride, saying, “Fezzik! Listen! Do you hear? That is the sound of ultimate suffering. My heart made that sound when Rugen slaughtered my father.”
She laughed, pacing the length of her room, her brief feeling of shock being replaced with curiosity. “What could possibly have gone wrong at…” she checked the clock and quickly converted the time difference on the east coast, “Almost 2 AM? Where’s Rory?”
Harry groaned, “We got into a fight.”
“Well...did you do something stupid?”
“I didn’t think it was a big deal at first, but it turned into one apparently.”
The more he spoke and the more she heard his voice, the more it started to hit her who she was talking to. She wasn’t a huge follower of his, but she was a fan enough to have heard him speak in videos and interviews that to be able to have these kinds of conversations with him and it be normal knowing that they were friends was hard to wrap her head around. Even so, hearing his voice over her phone wasn’t as startling as she thought it should be. In fact, it felt more calming than anything else.
“What happened?” she asked.
“Well, after the show, Rory came backstage and I was introducing her to some people and said, ‘This is my friend, Rory’....”
“....Okay?” Zoey urged, waiting for him to continue. But he didn’t.
“See?! It wasn’t a big deal! But she got upset that I called her my friend and was being sort of quiet and when I asked if she was okay she just kind of went off asking me how I could introduce her as a friend after we just had sex and after I flew out to see her twice, and accused me of leading her on and all this stuff.”
Zoey listened, continuing to pace the room as Harry ranted. When he finished, she cleared her throat and spoke carefully, “Well...Harry, she’s not entirely wrong.”
“You think I was leading her on?!” Harry sounded more hurt than offended. “I just introduced her as my friend and she got mad. I wasn’t lying. She’s not my girlfriend. What else was I supposed to say?”
“Exactly. She’s not your girlfriend. And who’s fault is that?”
“What do you mean?”
“Look, you know she likes you. And you obviously like her, too. I mean why else would you fly across the country to spend one day with a person…”
“I do it all the time,” he defended himself.
“Okay, Mr. Perfect. The point is, you two already act like a couple. You talk almost every day. You’re not seeing anyone else but each other - at least, as far as I’m aware. Don’t you think it’s possible that she’s been waiting for you to ask her out and make it official, and by you introducing her as a ‘friend’, you could have just invalidated her entire impression of your relationship and where it was headed?”
Harry sighed, and after a moment to process he breathed, “I didn’t mean to invalidate her feelings. And it’s not like I don’t want to date Rory. We talk all the time, yeah, but I still don’t know her that well and I didn’t ask her to not see anyone else. We haven’t even been on a date yet. Plus, I just don’t want to start a relationship in the middle of tour when I have two months left. I’ve been doing this enough to know that travel can really hurt a relationship. Most people can’t deal with the distance and time restraints. Maybe if she’s still interested by the time the tour is over, then we can maybe talk about making things official. I’m just not ready yet.”
“Trust me, I get it. But did you tell her that?”
“No.”
“Well you need to tell her something so she doesn’t feel like she’s wasting her time. Don’t just leave her hanging like that.”
“I can’t ask her to wait for me. That’s not right. I want her to do it because she wants to, not because I’m dangling the promise of a possibility over her head.”
Zoey pursed her lips, understanding what he was saying while rummaging through her dresser for pajamas to change into, “Just tell her that you’re sorry and you understand where she’s coming from, but that you don’t want to rush things, especially while you’re in the middle of touring, and if she’s okay with it, the two of you can just take things one day at a time and you just want to get to know her more for now. Just be honest with her, Harry. Give her the benefit of the doubt. She’s a very understanding person.”
“Yeah, you’re right. That sounds good,” Harry responded, the words clicking in his head.
A knock on the door startled her and Andy’s muffled voice echoed through the crack, “I got them to agree on ‘Incoherent’ first, so hurry the hell up!”
“Be right there!” Zoey called back.
A gasp was heard from her phone as Harry muttered, “Shit! I forgot you were doing game night tonight. I’m so sorry for interrupting.”
“It’s fine. It only just started. There’s not many of us.”
“Is Theo there?” Harry quipped, the nickname Harry gave Brett made her laugh. Ever since he mentioned that Brett looked like Theo James from Divergent, she wasn’t able to unsee it.
“Yeah, he’s here,” she giggled, quickly changing out of her work clothes and into some sweats, fixing her ponytail.
“What’s going on with you two anyway?” Harry asked, “Are you dating, or just flirting still?”
“Funny you should mention that. He asked me on a date earlier.”
“Really? You gonna go?”
“I don’t know. I really don’t want anything serious right now, but he says we can keep it casual.”
“So...friends with benefits?” Harry pressed.
“That’s why I’m not sure. I don’t know how I feel about it, especially with someone I work with. But it’s only one date. I guess I could see how it goes. He did say that we could go on a double date if I’d feel more comfortable and suggested you and Rory. But I know your schedule’s gotta be insane with the tour and you’ve already flown back enough times.”
“I wouldn’t mind. I’m actually off for three days next week. I had plans Tuesday morning, but I could probably fly out right afterwards and head back Thursday. So maybe Wednesday night we could all go out?”
“Really? You don’t have to if it’ll be too much for you.”
“No, I want to. I told you, I do it all the time. My team will hate me, but oh well. It’ll be fun. I should probably go fix things with Rory first, though.”
Zoey laughed, “Good idea. Good luck.”
They each said goodbye and Zoey threw her phone on the charger before making her way back out to the living room. She took her spot back next to Andy and she smiled, excited to start the game with her friends. She felt proud of herself as she took in the scene, seeing her small group of friends laughing and joking together. She felt like she was finally starting to build the life she always wanted for herself. She never had this many people who she genuinely cared for and that cared for her in return. Sure, she had Jess and Michael, but that was really it. Zoey was finally creating a little family away from her family and it felt good.
After a few more games, everyone was beginning to get tired so the group decided to settle down with a movie. Zoey had dozed off, her head resting on Andy’s lap with her body curled into a ball. When she stirred awake it was nearly 3 AM and she noticed everyone else had passed out. Brett was in the corner and Jake and Melissa were cuddling on the other end. Her mouth was dry and tasted of cotton. Carefully, trying not to wake Andy, she slipped off of the couch and tiptoed towards the kitchen to grab a glass of water.
The blue light on the fridge dispenser illuminated as a steady stream of water poured into her glass. It looked so clear and refreshing that her mouth started salivating at the thought of it when she heard a shuffle behind her. She jumped, turning to see Brett padding his way in, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
“Jesus!” she clutched her chest again. How was she so easily scared?
He ignored her shock. “Can I have one?”
Zoey passed him the glass she had just poured and grabbed another glass for herself, filling it up with water. Brett gulped it down and let out a breath of air when he finished it before she had even raised her cup to her lips. She raised an eyebrow, sipping at the water.
“Tonight was fun, huh?” he asked in a low voice, leaning against the counter.
Zoey nodded, putting her half drunk glass of water down, “Yeah, thanks for coming.”
“We should do game nights more often. Nancy and Rory can join next time, too.”
“They’d love that,” Zoey agreed, taking another sip of water.
After a moment of silence, Brett spoke up again, “So...have time to think about that date yet?”
The water went down the wrong pipe and she struggled trying not to make a scene of choking, holding it in. But her eyes water as she spoke, “Yeah, uhm,” she caved and cleared her throat, continuing, “Yeah, I actually talked to Harry. He’s the one that called earlier, and he said he was down to do a double date next Wednesday, if that’s okay.”
It was hard to look at Brett when he smirked like that. He must have pulled so many girls by that look. Actually, she KNEW he pulled so many girls by that look from the amount of numbers he got at the bar. And honestly, she didn’t mind. It’s not like she saw a future with him. But he was hot and she trusted Brett enough to have a little fun with him.
Jess’ words kept replaying in her mind, again. ‘It’s fun not having strings attached’ and ‘Have fun, but be safe.’ Zoey thought about those exact words every day since she last had sex with Brett and how right her friend was. It’s not that she needed to have sex, but the liberation she felt by just being able to have sex with who she wanted and when she wanted was something so incredibly exhilarating and indescribable. She knew that a commitment was never a requirement to have sex, and she was reminded of this often by Jess, but it took her best friend dying and her moving across the country to really understand that. And to see Nancy, her kind, fun, carefree roommate, doing what she wanted to do and not worrying about what others might think really broadened her outlook on sex and intimacy.
Brett’s mouth was moving, and she knew he was talking, but Zoey couldn’t hear a damn thing. All she could pay attention to was his dark, mysterious eyes and his juicy, plump lips and how badly she wanted to taste them. Fuck it, she thought, grabbing him by the shirt and standing on her tiptoes to smash her lips onto his. He flinched, shocked by her abruptness, but quickly pulled her closer to his solid chest. When she finally pushed away from him, her heart pounded and her lips were already damp from his. Zoey could feel her body tingling from her knees up to her eyes as she craved someone, anyone’s touch. Brett could be enough for now.
“Let’s go,” she urged, looking up at him through her eyelashes.
Still stunned and unable to find the words to say, Brett nodded, mouth still agap, as she led him towards her bedroom.
