When I say I dislike Anakin and Anakin/Padme...
You know what crept me out?
In Hostage Crisis of The Clone Wars, Anakin is chilling in Padme's office. He's supposed to be on a spiritual retreat but he prefers to try to convince her to go on a vacation with him.
First, no respect for her work. He's on a vacation. She's not.
Also, no respect for the importance of what she's actually doing. Which, knowing her, is probably saving people's lives. But that's less important than Anakin's vacation?
Second, no respect for his own mental health. Unless, of course, war and death by the millions is a fun time for him and not something he need to meditate over.
And third, he tries to convince her that if she really love him, she will goes along with that he wants (waaaaaaat) because, and I quote:
"Nothing is more important to me than my feelings for you."
I thought, for sure, when he started his phrase, he was going to say "nothing is more important to me than you". Which... clunky, but -okay.
But no.
"... my feelings..."
It's not Padme who matters.
It's Anakin's feelings for Padme.
(Which is so self-centered, self-serving, which resumes Anakin's motivation as a character sickeningly, which is Sith.)
If that doesn't tell you how wrong their romance is, I deeply encourage you to document yourself on what a healthy relationship looks like, because you may need it.
It's not romance.
It's poison.

Quite often, I'm sad that Larian canned the original idea of letting origin characters narrate their story and choices. It gave such a nice flavor to their personal stories and their emotions during every encounter.
For instance, upon encountering a wounded illithid who tried to mind control them:
Astarion already fucking hates this thing - he growls as he describes it, he seethes. And then he almost sobs, when the mindflayer tries to force him to think he deserved to be whipped and flayed for resisting it. And it makes perfect sense for him to react like that -- not only does he hate any intrusion into his mind, but also, the mindflayer found his trigger and made him feel miserable.
Meanwhile, Shadowheart, in the same scene, sounds a lot more collected, and observant, detached even when the mindflayer pushes into her mind. Sharite training pays off - she has probably been prepared for such attacks and is ready to endure what it takes to fulfill her mission. She needs to keep her focus and press on.
Will is straight-up poetic. He doesn't narrate; he tells a story he is immersed in (and wants to get you immersed too). He doesn't hate the dying mindflayer -- he has no reason to, it's dying all the same. He is taken aback by the compulsion attempt, clearly processing the emotions the creature tries to drag him through, but he is still in control, clearly understanding what it's trying to do. And of course, he would be in control - he is an experienced monster hunter, he dealt with all kinds of creatures. He knows a mental attack when he sees one.
Oh, and Gale, Gale just brings that classy "stranded in another world log" vibe. He is one of those sci-fi protagonists who go through the horrors and wonders, but always narrate them in the calmest of voices because they can't afford losing focus and losing their cool. Of course, Gale is also sympathetic, and curious, and melancholic at times, but it's all contained. I don't know if it was intentional, but his lines conveyed the feeling of isolation despite being surrounded by people.
Yes, Amelia Tyler is perfect, but I feel like BG3 origin character playthroughs suffer from the same effect that Divinity: Original Sin 2 origin stories did -- aside from a couple of details, more personalized interactions, and a bit more insights related to personal quests, they blend together with custom character behavior a lot.
Narration by VAs would have added such a nice personal touch to every choice and decision - not to mention compensated for the lack of voiced dialogues.

After they made the Relic Weapons for Endwalker require Hildibrand progression, what’s the next piece of content do you think they should lock behind that invulnerable himbo? My vote is a trial series.
I think the funniest thing they could possibly do is make Hildibrand a prerequisite for an ultimate raid

okay because of the differing opinions on @calware's post i had to go and check for myself. after all, we've all heard info passed down the fanon grapevine over the years. so, here it is:
is dave strider right or left handed?
obviously, this being homestuck, character sprites flip like every half a second, so i'm trying to take that into account here. alright, let's plow through an entire comic's worth of dave panels.
Tumblr media
in his very first appearance, dave uses a katana from his wall to slash through his name command left-handedly.
Tumblr media
he proceeds to use his left hand for many actions he takes in his apartment, including typing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he then uses his right hand to fistbump cal, open the attic, pick up a sword, and escape the puppet pile. his computer is also set up for his right hand.
so already we've got a lot of switching going on, as to be expected with homestuck. i'm going to just try and focus on "main" shots now and not minute sprite details, since those seem to switch constantly.
Tumblr media
dave climbs the staircase after picking up the sword with his right hand. however, when beginning the strife with bro he switches it to his left.
Tumblr media
during that fight his sprite (and dominant hand) flips many times. while he is laying on the floor beaten he texts john with his right. once he gets up, he resumes typing with his left. [EDIT: he pretty much always uses his left hand when texting; there are very few panels where this sprite is flipped.]
Tumblr media
during the [s] enter, dave is famously seen drawing a sbahj panel with his mouse right-handedly. he does this again talking to tavros later. his computer setup seems pretty consistent in this way.
Tumblr media
during [s] accelerate, dave flips his sword between hands multiple times both in sprite and hero mode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then, for no apparent reason except for that he probably hates me and wants me to suffer, dave switches his main hand back and forth repeatedly for the entire rest of the comic.
he frequently carries his sword in his right hand, except for stray panels where, when actually using the sword, he favors his left (panels 5 and 8 above). however, this isn’t a case of him only carrying with his right and then using his left to actually wield— because as you can see in panel 9 above, he also uses it right-handedly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he uses his left hand during the entire fight with jade and bec, but then, switches back to his right during cascade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
during meteorstuck he seems to use his right hand for most activities, including drawing and writing, except for the penis ouija scene, in which he uses his left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he takes all his selfies with his right hand, then confronts jade with his left hand. his watch is also positioned on his left wrist, which is traditionally an indicator of right-handedness; and he holds his sword in his right again as he absconds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
during the dogfight he makes most of his attacks with his right hand, and switches to his left to parry bec. when he dies in game over, he's holding his sword in his left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he's using his right hand in essentially all of the non-sprite shots in collide, except for this last big red one.
that's all i've got.
conclusion: ????
in all honesty, he seems to switch between either hand frequently enough that you could make an argument for almost anything. hooray, everyone's headcanons are valid!
though i will say that he definitely uses his right hand more frequently in panels. if you only count panels where he's actually using his sword, it's closer to an even split, but i'd still tentatively say that he favors right more often than not.
the widespread fanon concept that he canonically only uses his right hand while drawing and otherwise uses his left, is unfortunately mostly cheryypicked in terms on panels. but that's not to say it's necessarily wrong. there's too little consistency in the art to definitely call it false
considering he's been seen both writing and swordfighting with his left, you can headcanon whatever the fuck you want! (and let's be honest, he has leftie vibes).
that's all! hopefully this helps someone. this took way too long to do help

Genuinely can't decide if the writers intended the Five and Lila relationship to be toxic, or if that's just their idea of romance - just like Rochester, Heathcliff, Darcy, and that dude from Twilight, right???
Okay, let's have a readmore. Note tags, ppl, and curate your experience.
Lila has a relatively sensible approach to relationships, which is consistent, despite her somewhat Machiavellian approach to getting what she wants out of them - she put Diego in his place about having realistic expectations back in s3. She's pretty clear about who she is and where her lines are drawn, and is "weirdly self-actualised", according to Klaus. And Five - romantically inexperienced, thinks everyone should do what he says at all times - tries to impose his notion of How This Should Go onto her, from nearly the start of their brief romance, but leaning hard into it once it starts going sour - which also checks out: he was alone for 45 years and his previous relationship was all in his head, giving him full control, so that's what he's used to. But I couldn't tell if they genuinely intended to show it as him being incredibly selfish in prioritising his feelings over her wishes, or if they honestly thought it was romantic. I mean, the barbed wire-style bracelet is a little on the nose, and there's some symbolism that I'll get into in a sec. Truthfully, I'm not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt - I think SB at least thought it was hot, judging by what he's said about identifying with Five, and about how he finally gets to have a romance. This seems to have been his pet project for the season, blergh.
It's that tedious old misogynist chestnut, that all women secretly want A Man to take control. It's frustrating, because they already established that Lila likes to be in charge, she wants to be free to make her own choices, she'd already had twenty-plus years of being told what to think and do. And yet she has to remind Five, who really ought to know her better by now, "You do not get to decide what I do with my life!" It's also very disconnected from reality. It's not actually fun or sexy to be gaslighted, to be lied to by some insecure asshole who thinks they know better about what's good for you, that they have a right to stick their nose into your personal relationships or keep you away from your kids. Not cool, Five, not cool. He's lucky she didn't kick him in the nuts on the way out. But another reason I think they didn't do this consciously is that Five doesn't seem to realise his assholery - there's no hint that he's regretting anything other than being dumped.
Lila was trapped for seven years in an intense, claustrophobic situation with Five - and if they'd continued to exist, she could have worked through the feelings that come out of that. Like Ritu said, of course there's going to be love there: they've spent seven years together, on the run. If nothing else, it would be a matter of survival - either you find a way to get along, or you kill each other. And they went in with a fair amount in common already (although being adopted by the Handler at age four is not at all the same as being recruited by her at age fifty-something). So I'm annoyed that Lila's whole arc this season is one of frustration about having to be the grown up in her relationship, taking a break to reassess, going off to do something a bit crazy and fun - and promptly getting stranded with someone considerably less emotionally competent.
Okay, I'm being somewhat harsh - Lila unexpectedly getting the timeout she wanted could've been a decent storyline, she could have some time to reflect, live the child-free life without consequences, and have some adventures (she actively enjoys danger!). And she and Five got to bond, that had lots of interesting potential, especially with their complicated history. But it tipped over from being a potential opportunity into an immensely over the top punishment for her impulsivity, and took them so far from where they'd started that there's a total emotional disconnect with the main story. Which is a fucking weird choice for one episode in such a short season, ngl.
And then, ugh, she's right back to dealing with the apocalypse, visibly thrown by a Diego who has unexpectedly thought about what she said and is trying to be a better husband, and dealing with a Five who has decided to get territorial. It's deeply uncomfortable, Five is gearing up to start trouble, so wrapped up in his own hurt feelings that he's functionally useless for the actual problem in front of them - leaving Lila to deal with the mess he creates, and then leverage said feelings to get him to put on his big boy pants and help. She still reaches out to him in the end, I think she knows him well enough by this point to understand what makes him tick...and she's having to be the sensible one up to the end of her existence. Can't she have someone who's willing to meet her halfway? The reflecting that Diego did, him making a start on making amends (given that it was only a few hours for him, that's about as much as they could squeeze in) was basically just wasted. They start to reconnect at the end, and mutually apologise for the damage they've done - but that's all they get, and it's a travesty.
Personally I think the whole storyline should have been cut, but if - if - they really felt it added something, they could have given it some time in the real world, see how this shaky new romance holds up against a serious relationship that's been massively fractured. In a different show, that might have been a fine story. But they don't do that. Whatever she might have wanted, Lila doesn't get time to even think about her choices. She gets to stop existing. (Or they could just have not gone there in the first place, god I hate love triangle plotlines, they do no favours for anyone involved!)
Given a continued existence in which to do so, I'm sure Five would have moved on pretty quickly. It's his first romance with a real person, he feels it intensely - but once the dust settled, he'd see that they were in very different emotional places (she wanted to get back to her family, the break from reality is way overdue to end - and he wanted to stay in their little bubble and leave all that behind). The actual romance part was actually pretty brief, and lacking in any deep communication - as Lila says, it wasn't real. They're playing house in an attempt to feel normal - in a greenhouse (a fragile structure, not a real home), eating strawberries (a treat more than real sustenance), like children...hey, maybe I'm wrong and the writers DID intend to do that, bc that's some choice visual metaphors. And they're playing roles: all their normal antagonism - what made them so fun and sparky in previous seasons, and even during the earlier part of their adventure! - disappears. Lila is a chameleon, taking on a character is her happy place - and this was how Five kept himself going, last time he was in this situation, so he's slipping back into that method of survival (although he's not as good as she is at separating reality from fiction). So while all that is totally understandable, it's insubstantial. If Five had the space to do some self-reflection, or if one of his more rational siblings (Luther maybe, or...um...or a friend, if he can make one...or maybe that dude in the Losers Department at the CIA...) sat down with him and explained that you need to treat a partner as an equal, maybe he could do better next time - or double down and keep being an asshole, that's also a strong possibility.
idk - I still don't honestly think the show intended it that way, unfortunately. I think they shoehorned the characters into the scenes they wanted, regardless of sense or even plot requirement. There are a LOT of badly-explained or badly-thought out moments in this season, and this whole mess just adds to the incoherency. Or maybe it's just a consequence of TV - you get multiple creative people involved, and the reasoning gets muddied, especially over time. Maybe it was SB's intention from the start, but he didn't inform the actors until the final season, so they've been playing it straight.
This show has an...interesting tendency to do something that you think is totally unacceptable and just gloss over it at the time, and then address it next season (like Luther apologising to Viktor), as if the writers all brought it up in their respective therapy sessions during the break, and worked through the issues - so maybe if they'd had another season, they would have gone into all that. Maybe. But we're clearly not going to get that, and they're all gone from existence so I can't headcanon that in this universe, they eventually sort it out. So I'm putting it down to one thing:
Tumblr media
Break out the dodgy facial hair (I see you're ahead of me, Five) and let's get kicking babies!

Just a quick rant to say how much I dislike fics where a jedi knight or master go up in front of the Council to lay into them about how stupid and heartless and ineffective and corrupted by their ties to the Senate and strangled by their own traditions they are.
1/ The very definition of a master jedi is one who has mastered themselves, work within the light, in service of others.
I'm not saying no one ever faltered from those ideals. But I AM saying that a master is in enough control of themselves they don't need to 'rant' (see, shout) to process their emotions, get their point across OR enact changes.
Not to mention that keeping all those resentement and negative emotions simmering as they are until they blow up is cultivating the Dark.
Only by processing those emotions in a healthy way can one see the situation as it really is, instead of how one feel about it, and work on the cause of these emotions rather than its effects successfully.
Which is what the Light and the jedi are all about.
And since when shouting at someone has ever helped them change their mind? This is not working toward "better". This is just venting, regardless of the cost to others, because if feels good.
Instant gratification at the expense of others is not of the Light, regardless of who "others" are.
2/ Most of the complaints are not actually those of the character but the author. I wish author would be honest about subverting the material for their own ends.
3/ Those complaints are not actually about SW things but about a westerner person applying their own morals, based on their references frame, that stems from being born and living in a western society, on eastern values, and judging them wrong for not complying about what everyone know is "good".
What is "good" is not always universal.
Murder, theft and incest are just about some of the only ones I can think of that are widely accepted as wrong.
Everything else is very much society based.
So it's not a matter of "good" the jedi are not complying to (if the author even applies good faith on the jedi's faults without making them the culprits of everything that is wrong within the Republic) but a matter of cultural perspective.
You know, the thing jedi are famed to be respectful of, unlike irl westerners.
(3*/ Before making Mace Windu a tyrannical, blind, dogmatic Head Enforcer of Wrong Laws, please, actually, try to look at any kind of material about him, be it in TCW or comics.)
4/ Just say you don't like jedi and tag your work anti-jedi. Thanks.

The Tim Drake uwu-ification bothers me in the face of the abject horror and trajedy of Jason's trauma so much because it reveals a lot about what kind of victim most people will want and that's why they prefer to see Tim as the poorest little wet meow meow.
The uwu-Timmy is always silent about his pain and bears it to the point of breaking under it and beyond, he never voices his trauma or fear and doesn't inconvenience anyone and he feeds into the narrative of a saviour coming along who sees his pain (Dick most often tbh), the glorious brave saviour of the victim. The helpless victim in need of saving, powerless on his own. The uwu-Timmy is cute and inoffensive, he is a "good" victim. The kind that doesn't bother other people.
Jason Todd on the other hand is the furthest thing from inoffensive and unbothersome, he's a "bad" victim, who demands you to look and see, who demands that you face the reality of him. Jason Todd doesn't need a saviour, there is no saviour of the broken power-fantasy that he enables. He doesn't need permission or support and he can't be controlled. He is the kind of victim people don't want to deal with.
And seeing the uwu-ification of Tim vs the asshole-ization of Jason just makes me realize that all these people in the fandom will hate victims who bother them and who are too loud. All these people who misunderstand Jason to just be too angry and out of control, who'd best just stick him in therapy or have someone teach him a lesson.

I’m a paralegal and one of the partner lawyers where I work complains about people who take time off and famously declines holiday requests because, ‘people don’t get enough done around here’
……and he also sends the whole company his holiday pictures from all his ‘getaways’ on a massive email chain. It’s like pictures in the pool and at famous landmarks and then one token photo of him with his laptop like ‘working hard or hardly working ;)’ SHUT UPPPPPP I HATE U
PLEASEEEEE I HATE HIM FOR YOU TOO. I don't know how to describe this type of personality but it's like, "terminally online" but for work specifically??
Like my new skip-level just chatted me up a couple days ago and was like, "I only got 3 hours of sleep last night but that's because we're working in such a fast-moving, cutting edge space. I'm excited and honored to be a part of it!" and I had to stop myself from laughing because I was literally up on the same call with him the night before and I was not even remotely honored.
This certain brand of person... I try really hard not to hate people when they have done nothing wrong to me on a personal level but like... it's so hard...
