[Asked about winter and is he worried about people loosing willingness to support Ukraine and asking for relaxation of sanctions. ]
I think that this is general common problem for all Europeans. I would say also for the whole world. And we are representing here democratic countries based on our democratic values and it is not for us to push Ukraine to some kind of negotiations to some kind of compromise, because a sustainable peace could be achieved only on the basis of internationally recognized values, on the basis of international law. And I would not support so called, in bad sense, real politik that means politik of capitulation, the politik of being defeated, because it does not lead to peace, to real peace.
Real peace means that both sides should recognize international law and common values and here the situation is very clear. There is one aggressor and one victim. I know that in Europe there are some confused people, a smaller part of the population, which does not know, who is an aggressor and who is a victim. I think their moral compass is not functioning (by them).
But it’s clear that big majority is supporting the European values, our democratic system and then our only duty is very simple:  to support Ukraine. This is what we can do:  support in terms of military support, it’s the most urgent need, we should give Ukraine all what Ukraine needs in order to restore its sovereignty, support in economic terms - also to overcome this winter and also political support. And concerning political support, I would say that European Union has decided after maybe two-three months of discussions to grant Ukraine the candidate status with some conditions,  most of the conditions are fulfilled. And we, Latvia and Poland, we have spoken about that today, we will push for starting of the negotiations with Ukraine.
Because I am convinced that after the war, after the victory of Ukraine, Ukraine will be one of the stronger(st*) European nations. Politically, after this terrible experience, will (be ?) based on our common European values, with modern infrastructure after the rebuilding of Ukraine, and it would be not only for the benefit of Ukraine, but also for the benefit of whole Europe. This is (?) European perspective.
And having in mind that, I think that our society has no real choice. It’s -  we should support Ukraine and also we should give our part in order to overcome this situation, the energy prices and so on, it’s our common burden caused by russia, but it is a price to our freedom It’s our contribution to the freedom of Ukraine.

I just read @ohsalome response about sanctions on poor russians. While reading, at one moment It came to me. IT, this memory about that overweight man, who chained himself to the door of McDonald in protest that eating in McDonald is his right. No because of war and kiling. But because the highest level of human rights for him was having right to eat fast food in M.c.D.o.n.a.l.d. (he was mad that they`ll change the name. Which they did).

Erdogan, UN chief discuss ways to end crisis caused by Russia-Ukraine war
Tumblr media
Ankara (The Times Groupe)- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke over the phone on Monday and discussed ways to resolve the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
Erdogan told Antonio Guterres that Turkey maintains joint efforts to ensure Ukrainian grains are exported via Black Sea, which would “avert a global food crisis.”
Thousands of tons of Ukrainian grains remain locked in due to the military conflict, causing global shortages and price increases. Food shortages are attributed to Western sanctions, according to Russia, which has been accused of using food as a weapon.
Through diplomacy, Erdogan continues to urge his counterparts to revive peace negotiations and end the war.

How the War in Ukraine is Accelerating India’s Desire for Tech Autonomy – The Diplomat
How the War in Ukraine is Accelerating India’s Desire for Tech Autonomy – The Diplomat
Advertisement The first major territorial war of the 21st century will ultimately produce geopolitical winners and losers. Nevertheless, the remaking of international order is not only being scripted on Ukrainian territory; neither is the war’s interpretation only being shaped in Kyiv, Washington, D.C., and Moscow. When India abstained in the March 2 vote on the United Nations General Assembly’s…

Putin, Trump, Netanyahu, and Michael Johnson are not identical, of course, but they are all on the authoritarian spectrum.
Tumblr media
None respects or supports democratic institutions. All bully their opponents. All are beholden to oligarchs (in America, billionaire backers).
All are pulling us into a struggle between democracy and authoritarianism, between freedom and strongman tyranny.

Brief history of anti-LGBT legislations in Russia
Throughout 90s and 2000s there were no discriminatory laws in Russia. There were openly queer celebrities (whether they said they were for PR alone or not is a complicated subject. Nevertheless, there were people who gained popularity and presented queer)
In 2013 the first legislation passed. It was an "anti-propaganda" law to "protect children" from becoming gay. The way to work around it was putting +18 on any piece of media or an event that contained even a mention of the subject.
In 2022 anti-propaganda law stopped being for children only. LGBT was mentioned next to pedophilia, both in the same regard. The law was rushed (like many of the oppressive laws since the invasion in Ukraine) and it was not clear what exactly it meant. In practice it mostly affected movies, TV and internet publications.
Earlier this year, in june 2023, ban of transgender transitioning was put in place. Once again, very poorly worded. This one and the previous one had two main functions:
To censor opposition. Most of those, who disagree with the current state of politics in Russia, if not outright support LGBT, at least don't mind. This information can be dug up and used against said people.
To create an enemy. The war was supposed to be won quickly. They promoted their army to be the second greatest in the word, they promised to take Kyiv in 3 days. Nothing of that happened, but life for everyday people got worse. One of the ways to redirect that frustration is fight an enemy that doesn't exist.
The russian government does not care about queer people nor understands us. They preach to their electorate that they nurtured to hate any "other". They make russian believe that our neighbors are nazis, the whole world wants us dead and they take our children by making them gay. I believed this is where they would stop.
There is no "LGBT organisation" in Russia. Before that they tried to find any minute reason or make up a reason to silence the opposition. Now they don't even need the organisation to exist.
Once again, the words are very loose, so they can use the law in any way they see fit - a very popular practice. It is not yet active, the court decision does not specify that exactly. Some sources say it will be 10th of January, 2024.
Any display of "non traditional values" will be equated to terrorism.

EU renews sanctions against Russia over Crimea’s illegal annexation

EU renews sanctions against Russia over Crimea’s illegal annexation
Tumblr media
Brussels (The Times Groupe)- The EU foreign ministers announced that they decided on Monday to renew sanctions against Russia over the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. ukraine
It extends restrictions on investments and tourism and blocks the import of goods from Crimea and Sevastopol until June 23, 2023.
European telecommunications, transport, and energy companies are also prohibited from exporting goods and services to local companies.
“We continue to condemn the illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula as a serious violation of international law,” the Council of the European Union said in a statement.
Russia violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in 2014, and the current measures are part of the bloc’s sanctions regimes.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine on February 24, the EU has also imposed six sets of sanctions against Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are among those targeted, along with a ban on oil and coal imports, the export of luxury goods, and the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian banks from the SWIFT international banking system.

So, how about we all start boycotting Turkish and Azerbaijani companies as well.
Mainly because of recent events in Armenia (and Artsakh) and turkey’s ongoing fuckery in Syria and Iraq.
I mean BIG ones like Turkish Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, Baykar, MKEK, TAI, ASELSAN, Otokar, Nurol Holding, Roketsan, and so on.
Same for Russia too.
And call for sanctions as well.
I think it’s the least we should do.

The Ukrainian letter of solidarity with Palestine, in part, reads:
We, Ukrainian researchers, artists, political and labour activists, and members of civil society stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine who for 75 years have been subjected to and resisted Israeli military occupation, separation, settler colonial violence, ethnic cleansing, land dispossession and apartheid. We write this letter as people to people.
Our solidarity comes from a place of anger at the injustice, and a place of deep pain of knowing the devastating impacts of occupation, shelling of civil infrastructure, and humanitarian blockade from experiences in our homeland. Parts of Ukraine have been occupied since 2014, and the international community failed to stop Russian aggression then, ignoring the imperial and colonial nature of the armed violence, which consequently escalated on February 24, 2022.
Aware of the pragmatic geopolitical reasoning behind Ukraine's decision to echo Western allies, on whom we are dependent for our survival, we see the current support of Israel and dismissing Palestinian right to self-determination as contradictory to Ukraine's own commitment to human rights and fight for our land and freedom. We as Ukrainians should stand in solidarity not with the oppressors, but with those who experience and resist the oppression.
We strongly object to equating of Western military aid to Ukraine and Israel by some politicians. Ukraine doesn't occupy the territories of other people; instead, it fights against the Russian occupation, and therefore international assistance serves a just cause and the protection of international law. Israel has occupied and annexed Palestinian and Syrian territories, and Western aid to it confirms an unjust order and demonstrates double standards in relation to international law.

This is not a russian babushka brainwashed by state TV. This is their national elite, the cream of the crop, the intelligentsia that has vast international connections and unlimited access to information.
And yes, his twitter consists of "hail putin"-s and chinese apologism.
