More fish! The only one that matches the Altantic sturgeon's massive size, a black marlin at 4 meters exactly (larger than average)! The biggest black marlin ever caught was 4.65 meters, good cod how massive is that TToTT The other fish are slender/spotted lungfish at 130 cm (max length), a European river lamprey at 45 cm (bigger than average), a sand goby at 8 cm (max size), and a sea lamprey at 120 cm (max size)
Tumblr media
I thought it would be fun to draw some fish I like in proper scale to one another. You never really put two and two together about the absolute sizes of some animals until you see them compared to other things! I've already done four off the top of my head:
Tumblr media
An Atlantic sturgeon that's 3 meters long (modern Atlantic sturgeons rarely reach sizes over 2.4 m, but historically they could be up to 4 meters. I settled on an in between length), a northern pike that's 120 cm long (upper estimate), a Siberian sturgeon that's 2 meters long (absolute max size), and a neon tetra that's 3 cm long (average length)!
If you need help seeing the neon tetra, here's it is with the Atlantic sturgeon:

Cave Johnson & Golf
I reckon Cave Johnson was a golfer. He wasn't obsessed with the sport, but played it casually. He bought his prized set of golf clubs in the 1950s, or earlier, when Aperture had money. It was either before he hired Caroline, or he bought them at her suggestion.* They sat in a corner of his office when not in use. His best playing years were during the 1950s and 60s-again, when Aperture had money. He didn't take the sport as seriously as most people, instead he saw it as more of a tool to schmooze investors with (*hence, it's possible that the golf clubs were her idea). If it wasn't his favorite game, it was definitely theirs. If it wasn't an investor or three he was playing against, maybe a government official, to get a federal grant or two. Eisenhower and Kennedy played, for instance. The atmosphere after the astronauts went missing must've been something.
Caroline would've watched most of the time, but when she did play I like to think she had good form in her swing, and would at least hit under par. Usually, though, during Cave's games, she would hang back and watch from the shade of the golf cart she drove for him. Sunglasses, visor, wearing something Cave would've called cute. She took notes in shorthand a small notepad where she also kept score.
Cave, while a competitive and ambitious man, wasn't a very good golfer-usually hitting bogies-but Caroline can't bear to tell him that when he already has to socialize with these insufferable people. Besides, Cave losing fed their ego and made them more likely to invest. If she had to watch him curse as he tried to swing his way out of that sand trap for several minutes, rather than correct him with constructive criticism he could've chosen not to listen to ("I know what I'm doing, kid"), so much the better. Would she ever tell him? Probably not, unless she decided it would be a good barb during an argument in the late 70s.
Eventually, the golf course would be no place for a bankrupt CEO. He wouldn't have the money, or the mood to play a round. His prized clubs sat gathering dust and cobwebs as his company and health declined in tandem.

Tumblr media
Decided to challenge myself by drawing every single TLK character out there, up until this point in time, and post it here. You can see the finished project on my main account, though I figured to post it on my tumblr just show I could proudly show off my work and a few of my head canons.
Here's all the mustelids across TLK:
Starting off with the honey badgers we have Bunga(foolish person), Binga/Bingwa(champion), their respective mothers Rada/Raidha(explorer-Arabic) and Rina/Rinas(cute-Arabic). Rina and Rada are deleted characters and lesbians who each got pregnant and decided to raise their babies alongside each other, up until Rada lost Bunga in a sandstorm where upon he got lost and found by Timon and Pumbaa. Rina and Rada would eventually find Bunga again after taking a visit to the Pridelands, and while they did get along, they realized that his home was with Timon and Pumbaa, so they allowed him to stay. Bunga currently is exploring world with his girlfriend Bingwa, though they'll eventually return back after Bingwa is pregnant in order to give their kits a good home. I also did slightly change them by darkening/muting their colors a bit and making them look more like real honey badgers by putting them on all fours, though my reasoning for why Buna is two-legged prior is due to being raised by known biped Timon. Also made them more scruffy and feral-looking cause... you know. To summarize, Raidha is Bunga's mother and Rinas is Bingwa's mother, Bunga and Bingwa have no-bio relation to each other, they both were supposed to be raised together since their mothers did get together, though Bunga got separated, though they reunited and married at the Tree of Life.
Next up we have two honorary honey badgers, or at least ones that were formerly other mustelids before going through the Africanization process. First off we have the wolverine/Zoezi(exercise) from "I Think I Canada", who tried to force Timon and Pumbaa to exercise before planning to eat them, only for it to backfire when they outsmarted him. This happened after Bunga left on the journey to the Tree of Life and the two were hoping to stay fit and healthy until he returned when this guy offered to help them keep fit, only to prove malicious intentions later. Additionally they ran into another honey badger; Thief the racoon from "Yosemite Remedy", now Kuiba(steal) the honey badger that tried to steal their Utamu grubs from them, and seems to have gotten one after all, during the time when Bunga wasn't there to celebrate with them, though again thwarted in the end. These event did worry them even more for Bunga, fearful that if and when he returned back he would be more them, though they were relieved when he just came back lovesick.
Next up we have the red pandas, now turned into Saharan striped polecat/zorilla which are basically like wild ferrets with skunk-like patterns. Funny thing is red pandas are mustelids, so they would count on the list regardless, if not for the fact that I have a strict no non-African animals policy with extremely specific exceptions, hence them now being these weaselly guys. Living now in the arid savannah/desert areas on the Lion Guard's journey to the Tree of Life, they ask help from the 'chosen one' Bunga and the Lion Guard to help them get rid of the 'Ghost of the Desert', which ends up to be the mischievous sand cat Chui, my version of Chuluun. We have the leader of the group Domog/Gomo(valley-Nyanja), his sons Dughi/Duniya(world-Hausa) and Chubby Red Panda/Pansi(down-Nyanja), and granddaughter Bogino/Bogi(bog). It does seem like most zorillas are black with white stripes and the more brownish patterns seem to be the exception rather than the norm, though let's just say these guys are a subspecies of Saharan striped polecat that developed the more reddish-brown coats that are now default.
Last on the list is another zorilla in the more common black and white colors, one Miss Skunk Lady/Marashi(perfume) from T&P Show's, "Scent of the South". Formerly a skunk lady who helped Pumbaa by trying to help him smell better, in my verse she is one of the members of the Forest Mama Binturong, now Mama Civet, and her porcupine army once resided in. With the evil binturong-turned-civet and her group of porcupine lackeys gone, the other residents of the forest have slowly been rebuilding their home for themselves, including Marashi who has a knowledge about gardening and is slowly regrowing a new patch of tuliza to be used by the entire community now. Her knowledge of growing both plants for enjoyment and for practical purposes, in addition to her helpful attitude and kindly old-lady demeanor, in contrast to Mama's sugar-coated poison demeanor, she's a positive influence in this traumatized community.

NASA’s Perseverance Rover Looks Back While Climbing Slippery Slope
On its way up the side of Jezero Crater, the agency’s latest Red Planet off-roader peers all the way back to its landing site and scopes the path ahead.
NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover is negotiating a steeply sloping route up Jezero Crater’s western wall with the aim of cresting the rim in early December. During the climb, the rover snapped not only a sweeping view of Jezero Crater’s interior, but also imagery of the tracks it left after some wheel slippage along the way.
Stitched together from 44 frames acquired on Sept. 27, the 1,282nd Martian day of Perseverance’s mission, the image mosaic features many landmarks and Martian firsts that have made the rover’s 3½-year exploration of Jezero so memorable, including the rover’s landing site, the spot where it first found sedimentary rocks, the location of the first sample depot on another planet, and the final airfield for NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter. The rover captured the view near a location the team calls “Faraway Rock,” at about the halfway point in its climb up the crater wall.
“The image not only shows our past and present, but also shows the biggest challenge to getting where we want to be in the future,” said Perseverance’s deputy project manager, Rick Welch of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. “If you look at the right side of the mosaic, you begin to get an idea what we’re dealing with. Mars didn’t want to make it easy for anyone to get to the top of this ridge.”
Visible on the right side of the mosaic is a slope of about 20 degrees. While Perseverance has climbed 20-degree inclines before (both NASA’s Curiosity and Opportunity rovers had crested hills at least 10 degrees steeper), this is the first time it’s traveled that steep a grade on such a slippery surface.
Soft, Fluffy
During much of the climb, the rover has been driving over loosely packed dust and sand with a thin, brittle crust. On several days, Perseverance covered only about 50% of the distance it would have on a less slippery surface, and on one occasion, it covered just 20% of the planned route.
“Mars rovers have driven over steeper terrain, and they’ve driven over more slippery terrain, but this is the first time one had to handle both — and on this scale,” said JPL’s Camden Miller, who was a rover planner, or “driver,” for Curiosity and now serves the same role on the Perseverance mission. “For every two steps forward Perseverance takes, we were taking at least one step back. The rover planners saw this was trending toward a long, hard slog, so we got together to think up some options.”
On Oct. 3, they sent commands for Perseverance to test strategies to reduce slippage. First, they had it drive backward up the slope (testing on Earth has shown that under certain conditions the rover’s “rocker-bogie” suspension system maintains better traction during backward driving). Then they tried cross-slope driving (switchbacking) and driving closer to the northern edge of “Summerland Trail,” the name the mission has given to the rover’s route up the crater rim.
Data from those efforts showed that while all three approaches enhanced traction, sticking close to the slope’s northern edge proved the most beneficial. The rover planners believe the presence of larger rocks closer to the surface made the difference.
“That’s the plan right now, but we may have to change things up the road,” said Miller. “No Mars rover mission has tried to climb up a mountain this big this fast. The science team wants to get to the top of the crater rim as soon as possible because of the scientific opportunities up there. It’s up to us rover planners to figure out a way to get them there.”
Tube Status
In a few weeks, Perseverance is expected to crest the crater rim at a location the science team calls “Lookout Hill.” From there, it will drive about another quarter-mile (450 meters) to “Witch Hazel Hill.” Orbital data shows that Witch Hazel Hill contains light-toned, layered bedrock. The team is looking forward to comparing this new site to “Bright Angel,” the area where Perseverance recently discovered and sampled the “Cheyava Falls” rock.
The rover landed on Mars carrying 43 tubes for collecting samples from the Martian surface. So far, Perseverance has sealed and cached 24 samples of rock and regolith (broken rock and dust), plus one atmospheric sample and three witness tubes. Early in the mission’s development, NASA set the requirement for the rover to be capable of caching at least 31 samples of rock, regolith, and witness tubes over the course of Perseverance’s mission at Jezero. The project added 12 tubes, bringing the total to 43. The extras were included in anticipation of the challenging conditions found at Mars that could result in some tubes not functioning as designed.
NASA decidedto retire two of the spare empty tubes because accessing them would pose a risk to the rover’s small internal robotic sample-handling arm needed for the task: A wire harness connected to the arm could catch on a fastener on the rover’s frame when reaching for the two empty sample tubes.
With those spares now retired, Perseverance currently has 11 empty tubes for sampling rock and two empty witness tubes.
More About Perseverance
A key objective of Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including caching samples that may contain signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, to help pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet and as the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith.
NASA’s Mars Sample Return Program, in cooperation with ESA (European Space Agency), is designed to send spacecraft to Mars to collect these sealed samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis.
The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part of NASA’s Moon to Mars exploration approach, which includes Artemis missions to the Moon that will help prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet.
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is managed for the agency by Caltech, built and manages operations of the Perseverance rover.

Tipper Trailers In Sydney: Unveiling The Backbone Of Rugged Transport
Tumblr media
The Unsung Heroes Of Industry
Within the worlds of construction, farming, and heavy transportation, tipper trailers in Sydney are quiet giants—vital but also underappreciated. Their capacity to haul, tilt, and offload heavy material with ruthless effectiveness renders them unavoidable in city and regional operations both. With Sydney's growth accelerating, from tower blocks to suburban expansion, the demand for robust, dependable tipper trailers has increased significantly beyond historic norms.
This piece examines the engineering, variety, and operational intelligence that goes into contemporary tipper trailers in Sydney, offering a cutting-edge perspective to customers and industry players who seek more than just a means of transporting soil.
The Engineering Behind Modern Tipper Trailers
Heavy transport requires more than a simple load-and-haul configuration; it necessitates a carefully designed approach that combines power with operational safety. Tipper trailers are built around high-tensile steel, heavy-duty hydraulic hoists, and stabilised structures to withstand Sydney's most challenging environments—construction areas and mining areas.
Principal Engineering Points Include:
Hydraulic Systems:
Single-acting, double-acting, and multi-stage rams govern the efficiency of lift. Multi-stage hydraulics, especially, are made for heavier loads with smooth tipping action.
Chassis and Body Strength:
A strengthened chassis made of graded steel avoids torsional stress during loading displacement.
Axle Configurations:
Tri-axle and quad-axle configurations increase stability during tipping operations, particularly on irregular surfaces.
Various Types of Tipper Trailers in Sydney
Recognising the diversity that exists is crucial in finding a trailer that suits its intended purpose. In Sydney's varied working environment, there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
Semi Tipper Trailers:
For high-capacity loads, such as sand, gravel, and demolition materials. Semi-trippers have maximum payload but demand an experienced prime mover.
Dog Tippers:
Smaller, maneuverable, and frequently coupled with rigid trucks, dog tippers are perfect for city site access where close manoeuvrability is essential.
Side Tippers:
Instead of tipping backward, these discharge sideways, which is essential for uses where height limitations or unstable ground conditions render vertical tipping hazardous.
Bogie and Tri-Axle Tippers:
Ideal for bulk transport requirements without the complication of articulated configurations, providing simpler logistics for mid-sized operators.
Why Quality Is More Important Than Ever?
Selecting robust, high-quality tipper trailers in Sydney is no longer a choice; it's a requirement for business survival. Low-quality trailers lead to downtime, safety hazards, and regulatory issues under Australia's rapidly tightening transport laws.
Look out for the following when procuring:
Payload capacity consistent with your workload requirements
Australian Design Rules (ADR) compliance certification
Corrosion-resistant finishes to fight Sydney's unpredictable climate
Sealed access for hydraulic and chassis maintenance inspections
Omitting these factors could result in devastating mechanical failures, legal complexities, and capital bleeding.
Operational Challenges Exclusive To Sydney
Sydney's metropolitan geography poses special challenges to tipper trailer drivers:
Congested Traffic Networks:
Requires high manoeuvrability and quick loading and unloading capabilities.
Variable Terrain:
From metropolitan centres to the Blue Mountains' peripheries, trailers need to shift between smooth tar roads and rough construction areas.
Regulatory Compliance:
Chain of responsibility legislation places the responsibility for trailer safety on owners and operators. Inspections are not up for negotiation.
Smart operators capitalise on GPS tracking of fleets and electronic stability control (ESC) technology to stay ahead in Sydney's highly competitive building and transport industries.
Conclusion: The Smart Investment In Tough Haulage
When researching the market for tipper trailers in Sydney, intelligent operators and buyers need to look beyond price tags. They need to analyse engineering integrity, compare trailer types with specific project requirements, and know the operational complexities presented by Sydney's topography and regulations.
A good tipper trailer is not a cost—it is a tangible asset, a force multiplier that dictates your project schedules, operational safety, and bottom line. Select machinery that mirrors the strength and accuracy of the work you intend to do, and your investment will take you through thousands of loads and contracts, with grit and grace.

A little yelp at the sharp sting in his hip, similar to rolling over in recharge onto one of his quills, and Seacrest is tentatively rubbing his armour at the sensation only to draw his servo back with ... A little golden arrow on his palm. It was tiny, denta pick sized at best, with a little heart shaped head and what could almost be feathery at the tail.
Well, it certainly wasn't made for taking down Cybertronian's given its lack of toxin, and the fact it really only got the tip into his armour to stick, it couldn't even breach cables ... Which is also odd, because his HUD hasn't even registered the little thing. The little thing that is just slow disintegrating into a fine golden mist.

Glistening chrome hubcaps, polished crimson armour, doorwings that would make Starscream weep with envy, and two horns of kibble atop his helm like a drain deer buck in the spring. The sun can't even cast an unflattering angle on this guy.
♫ Yeah, yeah, what I've got, full stock of thoughts and dreams that scatter And you pull them all together, and how, I can't explain ♫
It's like his pedes are possessed by Unicron as he barrels down the sand slope, the poor red hunk mech barely prepared for the tackle of grey and orange, let alone the crash of lips to his.
♫ Oh, yeah, well, well, you (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh) You make my dreams come true ♫

Okay, time to re-review this movie.
I rewatched "Rope of Sand" this last Thursday, and enjoyed it far more than the first time around. The first time, I was distracted by the "Casablanca" similarities, which made me dislike Burt Lancaster (comparing him to Bogie) and think the romance was blander than it was (most romances seem bland compared to what "Casablanca" came up with). On the rewatch, I found that neither the romance nor Suzanne's changing loyalties were anywhere near as sudden as I'd previously thought.
Suzanne
Tumblr media
Okay, her voice is annoying. But if you can get past that, she's a pretty fun character, whose story arc has a natural progression if you really pay attention.
When Suzanne is first making her deal with Martingale, she reveals that she came to her current state during the War, and implies that she doesn't want to go into detail about it. When she first meets her assigned target Michael Davis (Lancaster), she immediately shows signs of sympathy upon hearing his backstory, before saving face and getting back to business. Later, when the villainous Paul Vogel (Henreid) is showing her his house, the boastful story he tells her about how he obtained his favorite vase brings out pure revulsion in Suzanne, tying back to her implied backstory involving WWII. (Basically, the guy who originally outbid Vogel for the vase ended up selling it to help save his sister from the Nazis; Vogel brags about being able to take advantage of the situation, earning pure disgust from Suzanne.)
Tumblr media
There's also a pretty great behind-the-scenes story about how actress Corine Calvet trolled a piggish director who tried getting her onto the casting couch. When he wouldn't take no for an answer, she had sex with him while secretly ill with strep throat. After he got ill, she sent him roses and a get well card, warning, "Next time I'll give you something worse."
On to Burt Lancaster.
Tumblr media
On the first viewing, the "Casablanca" parallels made it impossible not to compare him to Humphrey Bogart, who undeniably plays antiheroes better. But for the role of a desert guide, Bogart might not be the best choice. Bogie has the grit of a city guy. The makeup department could maybe have done a better job making Burt Lancaster look less "pretty" for some scenes, but his acting and physique otherwise do fit the part.
Seeing Lancaster in different roles later in his career also gave me more respect for his acting ability. I see a similarity to Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio; cast as generic "pretty boys" early in their careers, but once allowed to branch out, proved themselves able to fit into a wide variety of roles. But the thing that really made me appreciate Lancaster this time around was, ironically, the thing that initially made me dislike him and appreciate Bogart more; comparison to another actor. In this case, Clark Gable.
Tumblr media
Now, the allegations that Clark Gable date-raped Lauretta Young have not been proven, and the story has some holes in it, so for now I'll withhold judgement about Gable himself. But I can say that onscreen, I find Clark Gable's characters to be massively "rapey" creeps. And not because of the time period. I've been watching old movies from the 30s and 40s for like, 15 years now. I never saw Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart acting that forceful or creepy to women in their movies. Peter Lorre, Paul Henreid and Claude Rains, I only recall acting like that when it was meant to show their character was villainous, corrupt or insane. So, bearing in mind that Clark Gable's gross, creepy antics were portrayed as "romantic" at the same time that "Rope of Sand" came out, all of a sudden Suzanne's fast devotion to Michael makes a lot more sense. Nowadays, seeing the villain force a kiss from the heroine while the hero respects her autonomy is expected, but in 1949, it might well have been a bold progressive statement.
Bland preppy underwear model Mike Davis may be, but he is a chivalrous bland underwear model, who respects consent. Apparently he was also a righteous dude in real life as well. When filming this movie, a sick Corinne Calvet vomited on Burt Lancaster; he didn't tell anyone, and gave her encouragement and advice.
Toady and Martingale were in cahoots the entire time
Tumblr media
On the first watch, I thought that the ending scene closing on Martingale and Toady was just another gratuitous "Casablanca" callback. And it probably was in part. But it was also revealing how Toady always had instant information on what was going on, to so quickly fill in Mike Davis. Toady's appearances to Mike all occur immediately after we either see Martingale, or something Martingale would have immediately learned about as the director of the company. Toady first appears to Mike immediately after the scene of Martingale and Suzanne arriving in Diamondstad. He returns with information about Dr. Hunter's murder and Suzanne's arrest immediately after the audience sees it happen; and presumably, Martingale would have been one of the first people to receive the update.
Tumblr media
Unintentional "Casablanca" sequel?
On the first watch, I found all the callbacks to Claude Rains' and Peter Lorre's "Casablanca" roles either amusing or eye-rolling. But honestly, on the re-watch, they both feel so much like an older and wiser Louis Renault and Ugarte, referring to past lessons they'd learned, that I'm choosing to watch "Rope of Sand" as a sequel to "Casablanca." A career criminal and a former Nazi collaborator have plenty of reason to change their names. As for Vogel being an evil relative of Laszlo, that started as a joke, but even that makes more and more sense the more I think of it. I won't say more, because I'm working on a short fanfic tying the two movies together.
Dr. Hunter
I don't have much to add about him, except that he is one more reason I love this movie. The entire supporting cast is a treat, Sam Jaffe's drunk doctor among them.
Tumblr media
The movie isn't perfect. Suzanne's voice is annoying, the plot still has holes, and the "Casablanca" callbacks are pretty on-the-nose. But I enjoy it, and it's now one of my favorite Peter Lorre flicks.
So, that's my second review of "Rope of Sand" (1949). It's still on YouTube for free.
Corrine Calvet as Suzanne in "Rope of Sand" (1949)
One of my big grievances about the movie is Suzanne. For the first half of the movie, she was the best character. She looks and acts so much like Audrey Horne from "Twin Peaks," that I wonder if she was the inspiration for the character, the way Toady was for Boo Berry.
Tumblr media
For the first half of the film, she's a spunky femme fatale with no scruples, giddily scheming with Claude Rains after her attempt at blackmail gets her a surprise job offer as a spy. She sadistically plays the villain and the bland protagonist against each other, while her partner in crime marvels at her malice.
Tumblr media
Then halfway through the movie, she's suddenly madly in love with the cardboard hero, with no explanation other than "he's honest." Okay, maybe a compulsive liar being stopped in her tracks by an honest guy is a nice idea for a romance; but it wasn't executed very well. It was way too sudden, and her character flattened out into the most generic one-note love-interest, devoted to the generic hero. It certainly didn't help that said hero himself felt like he belonged in the middle of an Abercrombie store, modeling preppy underwear, and had no business trying to play an antihero. Sorry, guess I'm not a Burt Lancaster fan. To be fair, this was early in his career, so maybe it was before he found his style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least she continued to sport some cool vintage outfits for the rest of the movie. And she remained a strong female character to the end, if a vastly less interesting one. I especially love that Disco suit-dress.

Book review: Defying Doomsday
Tumblr media
My thoughts on all the short stories.
Short review:
It was good.
Long review:
This is a collection of short stories from different authors. The thing all stories have in common is that the protagonist has some kind of disability (mental or physical) and are doing their best surviving during an apocalypse. It’s an interesting concept and I found most of the stories to be enjoyable. Every author brought their unique take on the theme and even the stories that I weren’t particularly fond of had at least one good idea in it.
Overall this is a book I can recommend and I think most people will find at least one story that they like in this book.
Rating: B

Day 11-Jinx:Superstitions
Other Stories
Day 11-Jinx
Black Luck Superstitions April 1934
Number 10300 sat between the rails, trying not to cry as the works crews assessed the damage. The rails had separated from beneath her as she rolled out of the siding, leaving all but her leading bogie on the sleepers. She had badly needed to make a good impression, and she didn't even make it to the platform for her first train.
"My word..." A woman gasped. A finely dressed couple stood next to her looking over the scene with dismay.
"I told you, my dear, that nothing good would come of that," the man said, pointing at her boiler.
A tear slipped out at this stark pronouncement.
The woman smacked her husband's arm, "stop that, now you've upset her."
"Please sir!" 10300 burst out, "give me another chance! I promised I'll..."
The man interrupted her, "Easy lass, you've done nothing wrong. I can no more blame you for the rails failing than I can blame you for the weather. It's only the maintenance crew's fault, well them and your paint."
10300 blinked, confused, while the Lady scoffed, "Albert really..."
"Name one engine painted black on our rails that was neither unlucky or bad luck itself my dear and I will drop it."
The Lady thought for a long moment then,
"Thomas never had an accident." She said triumphantly.
"He wasn't owned by our railway at the time, and the railway wouldn't officially exist until after the workmen painted him blue."
Peep Peep!
"Ah, there he is now."
A small blue side tank rolled into the station, a large gold number one gleamed proudly on his sidetanks.
"Good morning, Lord Harwick, Lady Harwick!"
"Good Morning, Thomas." Lady Harwick said with a smile.
"Are you here to pull my train?" 10300 asked hesitantly."
Lord Harwick gave a startled laugh, "Goodness no! While I have no doubt He'd give it his all, express trains are best left to express engines. He's here to pull you back onto the rails."
She glanced down at the rails in front of her. Stakes have been driven into the ground on the outside of the rails between every sleeper, and large metal wedges were being laid in front of her driving wheels. She eyed them dubiously.
The lead workmen walked up, "Thomas, we're ready for your part."
Thomas gently rolled forward and buffered up, a crewman hooking the two engines together. 10300's skepticism must have shown.
"Don't worry," the tank engine reassured her, "you'll be back on the rails in just a moment.
The atlantic was still worried, both about the plan and the tank engine's ability to pull her.
"Ready? Pull!"
The tank engine shot backwards, sanding as he went, yanking her forwards with a yelp. The jerk was enough to get her lead wheel almost on the rail. His wheels slipped for a moment, but he dug in and dragged her forward, pulling her drive wheel back onto the rails. They had to stop to adjust her trailing truck, and again for her tender, but soon 10300 was standing on firm rails once again.
The sidetank smiled tiredly at her, "Sorry about jerking you like that, but I knew I needed to get you driving wheels up or we'd end up stuck. I'm Thomas by the way."
"It's nice to meet you Thomas. Thank you for helping me."
"Anytime, besides your sisters were very excited for your arrival, and I'd hate to disappoint them. "
"My sisters are here? I knew some of them had been sold, but not who bought them."
"Yes they are very excited to see their big sister again, although as a new coat of paint."
"Oh for the love of.." Lady Harwick exclaimed in exasperation.
Her husband chuckled, "She doesn't think the black jinx is real." He explained to the bemused tank engine.
"Is having black paint really cursed?" 300 asked nervously
"I helped build the North Western." Thomas said seriously. " And I have yet to see an engine with black paint make it a week without an accident."
"Really?" Lady Harwick asked, "Not even one."
"No. The record of 6 days is held by one of 10300's sisters, but that ended when their injector failed while on Gordon's hill." He paused thoughtfully. "I don't recall hearing of any black engines on the old standard gauge lines, and I know there weren't any on the Skarloey, but the Midsodor supposedly had nothing but trouble from their number 2 a few years back. No idea what ended up happening to him. Everyone said he just disappeared."
Lord Harwick nodded, "That's settled then. As soon as 300 has pulled her train, she'll be repainted into a color of her choice."
"Isn't this a lot of trouble for what might be a superstition?" Lady Harwick sounded as if she was beginning to have doubts herself.
"Maybe, but why risk an engine, not mention our passengers, when we can just repaint an engine. Besides," he said, smiling at 300. "Our new express needs something better than drab black to impress our passengers. In this case it's simpler, and better to avoid the jinx rather than risk it."
"Jinx..." Lady Harwick said, glancing at 300 thoughtfully. "It fits....How would you like that to be your name, 300?"
Jinx smiled, "That would be wonderful my Lady."
"Then it's settled," Lord Harwick smiled, "welcome home, Jinx.'

Note
*She fiddles with her hoodie strings, as she arrived at the time she and Fisher agreed upon. Patiently waiting for the skeleton, excited to see the ocean with him!*
You arrived a bit early and know you have about 15 minutes before fisher is supposed to arrive. The beach he shared the location with is a pretty hidden little cove. It’s a small drive (or a 40 minute walk) from the main beach of seashore. It’s covered in seashells and a but rocky on the sides but the middle looks smooth and soft in the sand. And there’s an old makeshift table made of old logs that some random Samaritan put together on their own a long time ago. A really pretty spot
You sit at the table and listen to the waves while watching the path leading into the beach. You’re so focused that you shriek when you hear someone sit with you on the other side of the table. You look and see an amused looking fisher. He’s dripping wet and you realize he must’ve swam here instead of walking lol. He’s got a waterproof bag next to him and a bigger bogie board. He’s only in a patterned swim trunk and has his ecto out. You’re shocked at how muscular he is. Fisher always seemed like he would be a smaller guy
