this took me wayyy too long for something that was a really simple project, but it's finished! my first fanbinding is the evening speaks by @futureboy-ao3 !! if you haven't read this fic, coincidentally, i highly recommend it! it's short, but satisfying

i've definitely made better quality books in my short career as a bookbinder, but i love her anyway 😭 i'm not showing off the back cover because it is Clearly off center, and i accidentally glued the back endpaper completely closed.

the biggest problem, though, is that i somehow sewed the signatures wayyy too loose. i've taken great pains not to let it show in any of these pictures, but the signatures pull apart from each other completely where they join together. this isn't a mistake i've ever made before and i'm a little confused how i managed it this time, to be honest?

the one thing i did try for the first time and am completely satisfied with is the scannable spotify code i added into the book itself, which works! and it's really convenient! so i'll probably be doing more of those in the future :)

home is sleeping on my friends beds or resting on their shoulder. for my birthday a couple yrs ago, a friend got me a keychain with a picture of us and a scannable spotify code for the song i promposed to her with in grade 12. i call my friend at 1am, anxious and spiralling, and they talk to me for a full 2 hours even though they have a 7:30am class. a friend brings me food after travel, enough to feed me for several days. my friend recently moved and i saw her mom and she said 'i miss you, come home'. my parents consider my friends their own children, an extension of our family. from my friends, i get forehead kisses and handholding and the honour of being held tenderly in arms that love me. what can romantic love give me that platonic love cannot. i dont understand

Front and back cover design

This is the development of my front and back cover for my zine. I wanted it to be relating to the opening and closing scenes of my animation outcome and so i chose to use a frame from the underground opening page. The oil paint provides a contrast in texture and the glitchy effects on top present the ideas of the London Underground scene.

To make the front cover more stylised with the other pages ,which will feature the text collage backgrounds, i decided to overlay this on top of the oil painting very subtly and so provided texture , detail and extra messages. I wanted to include as much as possible in my zine from the animation such as the most effective and powerful mixed media frames but then also feature the oil painting frames.

I decided to also add the doc martens. I placed them in the top Right and cut them out with a slightly outline to look like a patch and link back to the rough /collage look. I was going to keep the typography black and white but this in the end made the front cover too dull and uninteresting and the purpose of this zine is to be an exciting and experimental depiction of what London music is like. I therefore needed brighter colours so i added some effect sand hue onto the type , making it purple and standing out. I also added screen print effect so again it has the handmade look.

Similarly for the back cover i used one of the zoetrope tests from earlier and included it in my zine. On the back page of a publication/zine there is normally a blurb or a message. I wanted to make sure this message was about music and to support young artists and venues. I used the zoetrope vinyl as a starting point and overlaid the dates from earlier and captioned it “listen to london”. i think boldness and aggression of the messages are really important and have been from a long time, (looking at nmes and punk zines). Whilst making this back cover i thought about how the audience could interact with my zine and be educated on music in London further and so i decided to create a scannable spotify code which takes you to a London playlist created by me. I think this would bring people to gigs more but also make it communicate better. At the bottom is changes I made & type development of captions I will put on the finished pages that specify what the pages are

personalized leather bracelet. he got an inside joke engraved, but it’s on the inside of the bracelet. it’s so intimate? on the outside, it’s just a simple, thin leather bracelet. but the inside is him literally verbally showing how much he cares about you. you got this shit in writing, he’s gone gone.

an anklet. i forget that people actually wear these, but i think he’d get super excited about it! it would follow dress codes for work or sports, and he could make it your favorite colors or put charms on it and it was just that ‘kinda always there’ thing and that’s his goal 😏

earrings. akaashi is absolutely a hopeless romantic, and he thinks there are just the most practical. he picks them based off your preference, of course (i.e. if you love hoops, he’ll buy you hoops. if you hate hoops clearly he won’t buy you hoops yknow?). loves em, kisses your ear when you have em on.

stackable rings. simplistic, cute, screams hajime. much like akaashi, he’ll always hold your hand and kiss the finger your ring is on. they’re super minimalistic and he knows you can’t go wrong with that, so it doesn’t make him anxious. plus, you can mix and match!

scannable spotify necklace. absolutely. ABSOLUTELY. spends longer picking out the song than he does the necklace, but he makes it really really matter. (however, he absolutely considers putting a gag song on there, instead chooses something that describes how he actually feels (nah, he buys both)).

bond touch bracelets. even though you’re literally not long distance he is so clingy. he bought them without telling you and was super duper excited about the idea (“now i get your touch even when you’re gone!!!!”). comes up with little codes for taps and soon enough you two have literally learned morse code and are communicating via bracelet. if he knows you’re anxious, he’ll send ‘i love you’ even if he’s in the same room.
