Good morning, this morning I'm disappointed at how little the setting of Gibson's original Raggedy Ann scripts made it into the final staging.
It's not very clear from the footage, but his Raggedy Ann is set during the Great Depression. The family isn't just dealing with their own issue, they are surrounded by poverty and hopelessness. Marcella herself has lost all hope. For getting over this illness, but also for her future. In early lyric suggestions drafted by Gibson, she sings:
"goodbye to ashcans, and reduced-price rolls / factory smoke, and shoes with holes / movies there's no dime to see / all the things there's no time to be"
William Gibson was born in 1914, when the Great Depression began in 1929 he was 16, he graduated high school right in the middle of it. And he felt that hopelessness first hand, just like our generation is feeling now. No jobs, no future, things barely staying afloat as they were let alone finding a place for himself as a new member of society who was supposed to join the workforce. It's not just about Marcella's depressing family life, it's her whole world.
The last line of that song is "moving along, maybe I'll like it better..". She is considering heaven. She is considering that death might be better than her current situation. When death comes for her she's scared but she was also expecting it, all of General D.'s talk about life being suffering and death being peace comes from her mind.

I completely agree with you sentiment on scripts and canon however these aren't the early drafts these are the final versions of the scripts? Sure some things from the early drafts still made it in but op notes what colors pages they were i.e. when something was written or rewritten and they've talked about how they only took stuff that was of note (or interesting to them) if something hasn't been posted we can assume the scene was the same in the final episode. Just look at how different the episode 1 script was and we know that was the final script. It's clear when the writers cut something out completely or when something was changed based on the aired episodes but a lot of the stuff that's been posted is just the actors playing a scene differently, and correct me if I'm wrong, but they wouldn't go back and rewrite the tone of a scene or the actors's facial expressions or the blocking of a scene?
so i haven't personally been to the WGA library but i have a friend who went there over a year ago to look at these exact same scripts and she said they're very bare bones. you can compare them to other scripts at the same library:
Tumblr media
i just grabbed a random black sails episode because that's another script my friend viewed, and you can see the difference between 'final shooting draft' and 'buff pages.' i do not necessarily think these are the scripts they filmed with, i don't know why we're assuming that the ep1 script they released was the final draft because as far as i know that was never said anywhere? i could be wrong, but it feels like an earlier draft than what they filmed with.
i agree that i don't think they would alter a script based on an actors facial expression or tone, but much of what is in the library scripts has different wording and intent. i don't think the actors were just doing whatever they felt like and completely changing the meaning of scenes just for fun.
i love viewing the scripts, i think it's so interesting to compare what was written down and what is on screen. it's fun to use them as a guide to what characters are thinking/feeling, but i just don't think the fandom should be taking these scripts as final shooting drafts. i don't have any issue with op posting these scripts, i just find the claim that certain things in early drafts are absolutely canon to be frustrating and purposefully misleading <3

I'm thinking of turning this blog from only classpect analysis to just be the blog where I talk homestuck?
Like, I'd still do analysis (... sometime in the future. I'm working on it.) but also then I could talk (and maybe draw??) stuff for my AU that I've been working on for a while, or talk about my troll OCs beyond when their classpects finally show up in my askbox?
IDK I just want to do more stuff with this blog because writing these analyses takes up a casual 4+ hours to do all the making sure canon supports my theories (or at least doesn't outright disprove anything) part and recently that time of my weekends is being taken up by being Very Busy with homework (but hey, four years from now I'll be able to tell people I know what I'm talking about in regards to media analysis because I'll have a degree in that stuff, so, y'know, worthy sacrifices and all that jazz)
Uhm.

Ah yes, the one guy I like vs the five other femme fatales
I did the thing that I saw one other mutual do!!! honestly, it was VERY hard to pick for most of these (save for Caine and Glamrock Chica) because I ADORE a LOT of characters. And doing this honestly makes me realize just how much I gravitate towards characters that are doomed by the narrative or their scriptwriters one way or another
My current favorite is Caine because it's pretty much self-explanatory, he is my current blorbo. My scrunkly. My precious lil scrunkler guy
Chica is my comfort character. She literally raised me alongside Freddy Fazbear when I was going through one of the toughest moments of my life, living with my abusive dad (and yes the chicken and the bear are so married to me and me only)
Master Tigress save me you were taken from me by the fourth film and I will NEVER live that down
Where do I even start with Six from Little Nightmares. By god, this poor yellow raincoat wearing child of mine. I both love and hate just how hopeless her story is. People say that the ending of the first game ends with her escaping via a boat, but I really don't think so. I think she's stuck at the Maw because I keep saying it, THE BOAT DROPPING THE GUESTS LEFT. THERE IS NO "OTHER BOAT". IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. (before this becomes a ramble, I'm gonna stop it right there.)
I'm VERY guilty of liking Lucy Wilde from Despicable me because I hate the franchise (the first film was good), but by god, IS SHE THE FUNNIEST SHIT. To me, she literally carries the films she's in, she inspired one of my main OCs' humor and even appearance. I don't care about Gru, or the villains, or the girls, just give me more Lucy.
GLAMROCK CHICA MY BELOVED I AM GOING DOWN ON MY KNEES RN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MARRY ME I'M PUTTING ALL OF MY POINTS IN THE RIZZ STATS PLEASE JUST ONE CHANCE BABYGIRL OINE CHANCE GIVE ME ONE CHANCE (I am Glamrock Chica's #1 fan and I will always be angry at Scott for what he's doing to her and her variants)
sigh,,,, what I ever did to like such characters that I know will end up crushing my heart one way or another, I don't know but I do know that at the very least, I have the power to diverge from canon as an artist

Movie Magic
jason todd x gn!reader
summary: a cozy movie marathon date with jason todd
tags: fluff, kissing, minor reference to canonical character death
rated teen | wc: 1k
a/n: inspired by an ask from the lovely @orchidsangel
Tumblr media
It’s a Saturday morning, and the weekend is stretching wide in front of you. It’s been a long week, so you and Jason have decided to do a movie marathon together instead of going out. The morning starts with breakfast, fresh fruit and real maple syrup drizzled over French toast. Dishes done side by side in the sink, winter sun coming in pale through the window. A few days earlier, when you’d done the grocery shopping, you’d picked up snacks specifically for this day. There’s popcorn and chips, pretzels and M&Ms, licorice and skittles. Each gets put out in their own bowls, ready to be eaten. Then would come building the blanket fort. Moving cushions and the duvet from the bed out into the living room, pulling bedsheets out of the linen closet. While Jason rolls an empty clothing rack out to hold up the blankets, you get the idea to take down some of your fairy lights and put them up in the fort, little pinpricks of light to stop Jason’s fear of small dark spaces from creeping in. It takes all of your decorative throw pillows you had insisted on and Jason had affectionately rolled his eyes at for you both to get comfortable. But it is comfortable, tucked up under Jason’s arm and swaddled in blankets, snack bowls tucked between your hip and the side of the couch.
Jason puts on the first movie, something you both loved as children. You laugh at the same moments, point out your favourite characters and scenes. His ribs knock into yours when he snorts, warm and solid beside you. Jason puts on the sequel, which you both agree is nowhere near as good as the first. Offhandedly you mention that at least the third was better since they brought back the scriptwriter from the first movie and Jason has to press pause. Turns to you jaw slightly open and asks if you’re serious, that there’s a third one, that they made more. The thing is, there was a third movie, only Jason wouldn’t have known. Resurrection and revenge doesn’t really leave a lot of time for catching up on pop culture. You wrap your arms around him tighter, navigate to the next movie and press play. For this one, the two of you are silent. Jason’s eyes are wide and attentive, lips parted in awe. You watch him as much as the movie, drink in his reactions eagerly and the way his arm tightens around your shoulder at the tense moments. The credits start to roll, and still Jason doesn’t say anything.
“So… what did you think?” You ask. He runs his fingers through his hair, looks you in the eye, and goes on one of the most impassioned rants you’ve ever heard him give, and you’ve heard him rant about everything they got wrong in the newest Sense and Sensibility adaptation. He barely stops to breathe between discussing the casting and how surprisingly good the stunts were. He talks himself hoarse until you pass him your soda. That manages to interrupt his flow of thought, and he apologizes sheepishly for getting too caught up in the movie. “S’okay, I like hearing you be passionate. What did you think of the cinematography?” and he’s off again, hands flying through the air as he tries to describe just what parts excited him the most.
It’s his stomach rumbling that interrupts him a second time, causing the two of you to laugh. Lunch gets eaten on the couch, plates carefully balanced on laps. You convince Jason to watch Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and the look on his face when he gets torn between getting a version of his favourite book with added death jokes and wanting to point out how inaccurate a Regency society faced with the zombie apocalypse is, makes you have to constantly stifle giggles. You take turns after that, introducing each other to different movies as the pale sun slowly moves across the sky. Jason chooses a movie Damian made him watch, which despite the scary moments that have you burying your head in his shoulder, has some of the most beautifully shot scenes you’ve seen in a while. You get into a heated debate over Howl’s Moving Castle, eventually having to agree that book Sophie is more interesting but movie Howl is more dreamy. Jason has to dive for the popcorn bowl when you start yelling at the tv screen for the characters in the next movie to just talk to each other goddamn it! He indulges you when you rant about how most of the time the miscommunication trope is just lazy writing, that if the scriptwriters wanted to get the audience actually invested in the characters then they needed to stop making the climax something so easily fixable. You get so excited when something happens onscreen that you know a behind-the-scenes story about. Poking Jason in the side to make sure he’s listening before launching into an anecdote about how they’re actually only filming on horseback for the long shots, all of the closeups done on fake platforms to make filming easier. Or how the censorship rules of the time meant the director had to find a way for the characters to metaphorically kiss, and that’s why they’re always sharing cigarettes.
It’s beyond time for dinner, but full on snacks and treats, neither of you are feeling hungry yet. You’d introduced Jason to the magic of peanut M&Ms mixed into butter popcorn and you can tell that he’s going to be obsessed for the next while. The credits on the latest movie are rolling, there’s dishes to do and a couch to put back together, but all those things can wait. You look up from where you’re curled up beside him, cozy under the blanket and the weight of his arm, and he’s smiling down at you fondly. It doesn’t take much to stretch up and press your lips to his. He tastes like chocolate and salt and a long lazy afternoon. You can feel the edges of his lips turning up into a smile against yours.
“What was that for?” He murmurs.
“For listening to me ramble. And for introducing me to your favourite things.”

This is not my typical art or meme post but a doubt surfaced in the Mcspirk Discord server about TarsusIV and if Kirk was on the list to die or to survive. So I made a kind of shallow dive in the net to see if I was able to find an answer, and I could say I did, but boy did I also find something I was absolutely NOT expecting.
For the record canon or alpha canon in Star Trek is what we see in the shows themselves.
(Some people may include here scriptwriters or directors publications/comments and interviews relating their work on the show and their intentions while making it, in general any of the key people that contributed to the canon we see in the shows. For others this is considered beta canon so it's a kind of grey area.)
Beta canon is all the rest under the Star Trek brand; novels, videogames, manuals, comics, etc.
Having established that more or less, here we go:
In alpha canon the answer to if Kirk was in the list to die or survive is; "it's tricky" xD
Memory Alpha in all accounts points to him being one of the other 4000 people that survived the mass execution, although it is not exactly specified that he was on any list to survive. There were previous scripts where Jim says he was, but it was scrapped among other things. Still, if Kodos executed the 4000 colonists all together in the antimatter chamber, and we haven't heard of any escapees or switches between people, I think it's safe to say he was on the list of survivors. However, I think it's important to note that we don't know if later Kodos just chilled, ordered more people killed or there were more deaths due to his ruling the more the situation became dire. And we also don't know how long he lasted in charge, since I couldn't find an exact time when help arrived either; it just states it arrived earlier than expected but too late to save the 4000 killed. So we can't be certain how much time elapsed from the mass execution till help finally got there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirk is listed as a survivor of the TarsusIV Massacre, that encompasses all the struggle since what would be the uprise of Kodos and ordering those executions, till the unknown time later when help finally arrived. But we seem to be left to wonder if he could have been sought for later executions or persued in any way. In fact when we think back at what happened to his friend Tom Leighton, who was also a survivor and one of the nine witnesses, it is understood the damage to the side of his face either was caused by Kodos himself or took place during the massacre at least, maybe caused by Kodos enforcers.
Tumblr media
Since we don't know exactly what happened and for how long after the mass execution, we can't be sure what or who was the cause. Like most of it, it's left to interpretation. But when you get into account that him, along with Jim and Kevin Riley, who were all rather young then, are from the few people who could identify Kodos because they saw his face, added to his wounds, makes you think that at least there was some big turmoil and, be it on purpose or not, these kids ended either in Kodos presence himself when most didn't even know his face, or could retrieve that photo we see in the TOS episode from Kodos' headquarters or some other important place that may store such data. As one ST Discovery novel (beta canon) suggests and also tells us more of what transpired after the execution.
Tumblr media
So yes, alpha canon, or "the" canon left it ambiguous on purpose, since any intent to specify was scrapped before the TOS episode Conscience of the King was produced.
But here is where it gets juicy; beta canon (specifically Memory Beta) tells a very different story, one that made me have to read the paragraph twice and fact check because wtf xD
Two novels you'll see listed in the screenshot detail that Kirk was, in fact, on the list to die, but he escaped, saving Kevin Riley while he was at it. And not only that, but that Kirk was saved by SAREK who MELDED with him to erase the memory, because he also saved KODOS and gave him his new identity (wtf Sarek? You did that because you thought it was the logical thing to do or how come?? This could have tremendous implications...)
Tumblr media
I don't know if any of you guys knew this but I sure didn't and the fic potential for this is unimaginable xD Maybe many of those that made Tarsus fics including Spock and/or Sarek there are based on this piece of beta canon but yeah, shocking.
I'm aware that Shatner touches on more about what happened in TarsusIV in some of the ST novels he wrote, like "Star Trek: Academy #1 Collision Course" and the "Autobiography of James T Kirk". For the latter I believe I read an excerpt some time ago that talked about riots and the situation getting really violent, but I couldn't find any information in this small search and I don't have the spoons to read the book right now, so take it with a grain of salt.
In the end it is all up for interpretation and you can go either way, but you sure get some interesting details in the various levels of canon xD

I love Pamela Sousa for joining us for interviews and barely wanting to talk about her experience in the show. No, she wants to ask US what we think HER CHARACTER was supposed to be.
And it's great, because she makes. us. think.
Because what DOES Bat want? I'm realizing now after the stream that I answered my own question of where Bat and Wolf fit into the larger themes of grief and family, because that's what I am. I'm a themes guy. But I didn't really answer her question of what Bat's motivation is because I didn't really know! Of course, as a director/dramaturg I'd encourage that discussion between the actors more than they did in the original show, but I didn't really fully consider the question in the moment.
But we talked about it after the stream!
It was Mod Wowf who said it best, and said they were thinking about it while listening to me talk. That if, as I said, the main purpose of Bat and Wolf is to be puzzle pieces in Marcella's picture of a Loving Perfect Family, then their goal is the same as Marcella's and Poppa's and Mommy's, to get back to that perfect family.
Or, to find some way to get rid of that yearning by whatever means necessary. Either by finding it again (Marcella, Mommy), by finding a substitute for that missed connection (Bat, Wolf), or by forgetting it altogether (Poppa). They don't always know they're doing this, of course, but it drives almost every choice made by those five family characters. They're parts of a whole that will never be content as long as they're apart, dissonant chords, and they have to either die (Bat, Wolf, Mommy) or learn to accept that grief and move on.
Or, as you could say, carry on.
So I can't say for certain what Bat or Wolf's motivation is down to a "t", I think that's something to be explored within the experience of individual actors. But I can be happy knowing that we have a good place to start, and can do our best to avoid the frustration Pamela Sousa had with not knowing who her character was, and not getting much help from the creative team.
-𝕸𝖔𝖉 𝕲𝖊𝖓𝖊𝖗𝖆𝖑 𝕯.
P.S. Gail Benedict, while giving us more of a lecture than an interrogation, has been equally as pivotal in shaking up our approach in writing. Something about playing Bat, I suppose?

a sneak peak from my WIP
MING: Wha- (Show scarlet clinging to a bamboo stalk bellow.) Scarlet!
SCARLET: (Pulls up face from the leaves) What?! I'm a red panda! I can latch on pretty well Ming! (Sticks her tounge out at ming)
MING: Fine! Don’t blame me when the leaves taste like beetles…
SCARLET: (She begins to chow down on the leaves on the stalks when a shadow starts to wrap up around her ankle. She perks up, and looks down, her eyes going wide before she’s taken down from the stalks.)
MING: (Turn around) SCARLET!? (MING runs over to the other edge of the clif and looks down. Pan down into the shadows) Scarlet!?
(In the shadows, show Scarlet lying down in the middle of the clearing. She gets up, and shakes herself out on all fours before slowly standing up and scanning her surroundings. Its very dark down there, exept for the pair of purple glowing eyes in the shadows.)
(…wait a second.png)
SCARLET: (Jumps at the sight of the eyes. She jumps down on all fours and hisses at the mysterious figure.)
MACAQUE: Ah, we have a fiesty one here, don’t we? (Reveals himself from the shadows.)
SCARLET: (growls at him) Who are you?!
MACAQUE: (Steps forwards while chuckling) Well now don’t growl at me! I didn’t do anything to hurt you now did I?
SCARLET: Oh yeah? Your a mystic monkey! you could’ve killed somebody and played it off like it was nothing!
MACAQUE: Pshhh, Nah! Your getting me mixed up with the wrong dude! Name’s Macaque. (He holds out his hand with one hand on his hip.)
SCARLET: (Stands up, but looks away with a huff.)
MACAQUE: A sassy one eh? (Smirks)
SCARLET: I prefer, suspicious, i’ll have you know.
MACAQUE: Ah, A goddess with priss eh? Well, that's…surprisingly a new one.
SCARLET: (Bats her tail away and tries to hide her ears) How did you-
MACAQUE: Don’t ask. (Spinning finger thingy) Your scent has red panda written alllllll over it.
SCARLET: (Funny angry face)
MACAQUE: (Laughs) You are a riot! Tell me, what's your name? Other than red panda queen of course.
SCARLET: (Huffs) Fine! But only if you leave me alone afterward.
MACAQUE: (Laughs) You think that a mystic monkey of all things could keep a promise? You said it yourself how sneaky we are~
SCARLET: (Huffs) My name is Scarlet.
MACAQUE: Awe, no last name?
SCARLET: No.
MACAQUE: Ooh! Touched a nerve didn’t I?
SCARLET: (Scoffs) Why are you here to see me anyways Macquack- Macaque- its macaque right?
MACAQUE: (Nods) Listen, Bud, Your one of a kind at the moment. Sooo, to get back at a liiitle friend of mine, How about you come and train your powers with me?
SCARLET: I already have a trainer, thank you.
MACAQUE: (Chuckles) You think a snow lepord knows about the red panda’s? The things that only live a maximum of 200 years? Newsflash! (He appears in frount of her) Im immortal, and i have been.
SCARLET: (Jumps back)
MACAQUE: (Laughs) Your jumpy, for a goddess that is. Well, What is it? An immortal trainer, or an unlasting friendship that will end in the next hundred years? (He backs up into the shadows.) I’ll let you decide~
(The bushes rustle behind the two. Macaque and scarlet both jump)
MACAQUE: Shh…(He disappears into the shadows, leaving Scarlet looking awestruck.)
MING: (Pops out of the bushes) Scarlet! Scarlet- (Runs over to her and cups her face in her hands) Are you okay?! Did you scrape anything- Break anything?!

An elaborate thoughtpiece on the recent state of EW
With the recent Youtooz announcement, I've been having a lot of thoughts regarding Eddsworld and the rumors about them returning Tord back to EW canon, so consider this a dump?? (For clarity's sake, the IRL people will be referred with their name and last initial. :])
I'd like to preface this by stating that I wouldn't mind the character coming back, as long as there's consent with Tord L. I'd assume that they would do this with the full intent of respecting his boundaries, so I'll give that the benefit of the doubt.
My issue, however, comes with HOW they're doing it. We are all aware that they've been teasing the episode, first with their post teasing their scriptwriting, and then Matt H. on Twitter confirming something big is coming with whatever they're working on next. Along with the YouTooz release and the removal of the Tord FAQ, it's very likely that this is what they're teasing. And yeah, that's fairly big news. The return of a fan favorite character who had a major impact on the plot? That would shift the current trajectory of their presentation and of the fandom. But, in regards to the fandom, they're aware he's a fan favorite. Want a quick buck? Be it for a charity or for themselves, he's the perfect tool to weaponize. Especially with a prevalent neurodivergent population in the fandom, he's especially easy to use. These fans will be dedicated, and they will buy it. I've seen multiple people say that they would for this sole reason. In no way is this a jab at any neurodivergent folks. I hope y'all enjoy your figurine. I would too. However, it ties into my next point. The dedicated fanbase that Eddsworld has isn't all too dedicated to the actual episodes. Look at content creators on tumblr. A majority have created their own elaborate AUs or headcanons so estranged from the own canon that the real canon holds little value. As each episode comes out, it will gain minute traction, only to swiftly be buried in the sea of fan-derivative content. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't aware of this. In their comment sections on Instagram, oftentimes people will post GIFS of older episodes. Nothing to say about current content. Just GIFs. There's no drive for people to consume this media outside of their already preestablished footholds. So, how can people say something? How to bring in the quiet masses? Give them what they want. Give them Tord.
I made a theory a few days back with my friends. If a piece of media's lore has people begging for more, you'll likely see more AUs, more explorations of the characters outside of canon. I've seen this frequently when shows were coming out. The Owl House, for example, had budding fan theories and prevalent fan works and creators, such as moringmark, who played with fan theories as the show came out, exploring the potential the narrative had. However, by the time it ended, and the story was satisfactorily brought to its conclusion, this content diminished. Audience members felt fulfilled. When people aren't fulfilled, they ask for more. They make more. In this vein lies Miraculous Ladybug, a show known for egregious writing, to the point where content creators have basically transformed the entire show, disregarding a lot of the lore and establishing their own. Unfortuantely, with Eddsworld's current trajectory, the trend of AUs and headcanons feels more aligned with the latter rather than the former.
Another issue that's been plaguing my mind is narratively how his return would work. From the fandom, I've seen a few conflicting perspectives. Some people enjoy him as a villain/antagonist, whilst others prefer him as a member of the main crew. It would be impossible to satisfy both sides. Do they regard The End or not? And if so, how would they treat his facial scars and potential amputation? Ableism has been a plaguing issue in this fandom, and it makes me weary to see it potentially play out in the biggest form of media that Eddsworld uses. And I don't think people would be 100% okay if it was ignored, either. It's an extremely strange gray area where, no matter what, the consequence will be that someone will end up disappointed. To pull it off, they'd need a much more stable foundation and reputation. By the way the last few episodes have gone, I'm not too confident that they do.
After all, they've used this big episode so far to address a few criticisms I've seen for previous episodes. Aside from Tord's presence, they've teased the episode, which many had previously criticized Matt H. for his lack of transparency with the fandom upon production. The same goes with making it a sort of big episode. Beyond's episodes so far have been tamer and less narratively focused in comparison to later Classic and Legacy. That isn't a bad thing, but it's a major tonal shift that has felt awkward. Going back suddenly to the old formulas of narrative also feels a bit strange. The new narrative hasn't had success, sure, but every new creator will always have things to improve upon. Using what made Classic and Legacy successful in an era more focused on simpler narratives makes it seem like the showrunners don't know how to run in their own shoes, so they need to use someone else's to be successful. Here's the thing, you don't gain merit from being derivative, you gain it from making your own stuff work. Beyond wants to focus more on comedy than storytelling? That's great! That's what I've felt like those episodes were focusing on. Improving in that department will help overall. But changing something entirely because it wasn't working feels less confident, less focused on growth, and more on personal achievement. Especially when they have to use a fan-favorite character to get there. They couldn't make it on their own, so use what they know the people love.
I was discussing a book in one of my classes earlier, White Noise, when my teacher brought up how he wants us to constantly be aware of our society after reading this book, and how consumer culture greatly impacts our day to day lives. That's what the author wanted his readers to get out of it. Awareness. Every good work comes with a goal. What is Eddsworld Beyond's goal? What do they get out of bringing Tord back?
To me, it's the epitome of the current state of the entertainment industry. In Hollywood, where the animation corporations don't trust risk or exploration, they remake the old movies or produce soulless sequels. Kung Fu Panda 4, Megamind's sequel, every single live action Disney remake. And yet movies that take risks, like Strange World, no matter the quality, are shoved aside with little marketing. Cash grabs are easy ways to garner attention. They ensure profit. But they never garner the same soul as the original. To me, at least, the showrunners feel less confident in their own works because they've garnered little success from the 3 major episodes they've released so far, not including the shorts. Compared to Legacy and Classic, current Eddsworld has had nothing to say and very little gains from it. Legacy is a bit of a stretch for a standard, but it is a standard previously set by the show. This inflation is something so hard to achieve when a majority of fans have moved on, so I can't entirely blame them for potentially wanting to achieve this same success. It's just an empty way to do it.
I want to see this show succeed. I have a lot of love for it. I know there's a lot of love being put into it by the crew, and in no way do I want this to discredit their work. I see it as a current work in progress that's working out its kinks to reach its true potential. I just don't believe using the character of Tord is the right way to improve and garner traction. This is more of a critique on the writing and overall direction. Please understand this. I hope that, in the future, stuff starts going right for Beyond. Someday it'll succeed. But potentially using, for the lack of a better word, cheap tricks in order to obtain this is not the way to go as a creator.
Feel free to share your own thoughts. I'd love to hear what y'all have to say. And feel free to give helpful critiques as well! I'd love to make more elaborate writing pieces like this, so anything helps! Thank you, and farewell.

[ID: a banner with red-yellow gradient with floral banners at each side, a splatter of gold at the middle left, an open elaborate book floating at the lower middle, a dark cloud at the center, a golden filigree beneath it, three green crystals at the lower right, three flasks floating at the middle right, a quill below it with yellow text that reads 'Enchanted Lightning Writeblr Re-Intro (Take 4)' / finish ID]
*trumpet fanfare*
basic info: enchant | they/them | early twenties | asian | aroace | follows from princessfairysparkle (i’d change the url except i’m too attached, lmao) | writes any genre of the T-rated and sorta above sort
heyo, enchant over here! i’m a writer who writes original stuff and fanfics! it’s been a long while since my previous re-intro, and i decided for a new one. just the same basics, just a new post.^^
i’m a hybrid sort of writeblr and a semi-fandom blog. however, i tag appropriately as much as possible. whether it’s salty or positive. i try writing as much as i can! yet i also take breaks when necessary. my motto in general about storytelling is: write what you want to read. and i write any concept stuck in my mind.
my main fandoms are adaptations of marvel comics and dc comics. a big fan of characters who don’t get enough appreciation (whether from fandom or canon). i love canon divergence and AUs bc it gives me more freedom. i enjoy them yet i’m also aware of their problems especially with the former.
top-tier tropes to me are: chaotic found family, enemies to friends to lovers, subverted expectations, reluctant allies to best friends to lovers, exhausted™ protagonists, strong friendships, find recovery after all the pain, morally grey characters, and self-discovery.^^
i have some active original stories listed below.
Blasted Scorn: A group of pirates somewhat succeed in their latest quest, only for knights to be their accidental stowaways. They’re assigned to search for a missing princess who’s been captured. Dread Pirate Titanarin strikes a deal with them in exchange for valuables. Along the way and dozens of broken bones, this team contemplates on whether this was their worst decision or not.
True Devotion that Remains Constant: A ballet dancer encounters difficulties while trying to find her own path. A painter is only trying to thrive after escaping a difficult situation. An awkward circumstance leads them to meet in college where they slowly learn about each other.
Lines of A Script to Ignore: An unemployed graduate struggles on getting a job as she adjusts from getting back from abroad. A scriptwriter slash theatre actor seeks to share her story while dealing with setbacks. They reconnect as they see each other, forming a bargain that’ll provide help for both of them.
other than all this, to know what’s posted on this blog, here’s another guide. so you can avoid tags, you don’t want to see. and here’s a list of stuff i shared: enchant starter kit guide.
and when i’m a fan of someone’s writing, you will see it reflected throughout here. just in case you needed to know. ✨✨✨️

If they followed the books they'd be more frisky 🤡
But obviously some of it can't be translated into tv......
Dear Frisky Anon,
You should have discussed it with a real Gabaldon Expert like @gotham-ruaidh, not with Phoney here, who still fumbles around The Fiery Cross. So, I think you will have to ask me once I am done with Bees, which I bet will be just in time for the second half of Season 7 to kick in. I am told J&C do not have any problems in that department until the very end of it, and well, what can I say, it's Herself's prerogative to portray as she sees fit a legendary, all-encompassing love story as the one she magically created out of thin air (all writing is magic, trust me).
Never mind. Your question made me think, just as I was preparing the lazy dinner for 1 (Baby the Retriever is gone until Tuesday evening), about a couple of things, dealing with adapting content to the screen and also about how our minds deal with the difference between a book and the movie/series based on that book.
Adapting Gabaldon is a very difficult task. Take for example The Fiery Cross' never-ending Gathering. My God, all those words to describe just 24 hours! I have just finished with that unfortunate thief and I am so dizzy with it, I can't even remember if they had breakfast yet. The only solution they had was to go off canon and invent something at The Ridge, because it would have taken forever and hey, it's all about a healthy costs/benefits ratio, too. And mark me: Herself is no Marcel Proust, able to make us dream for hours about his description of Vermeer's View of Delft, somewhere In Search of Lost Time. FYI, I had to wait, as millions before me, until I fucked my meniscus skiing (or attempting to snow plough, to be honest) to discover Proust, but never looked back. Also FYI, Luchino Visconti tried to make a film out of Proust's voluminous saga, but failed. Nina Companeez managed (2011) a very, very poor TV series: unwatchable, and I tried. It is unfeasible - so, overall, I think the series scriptwriters' team did a very good job slaloming between botanical babble, Appalachian folklore, the White Sow and yes, J&C getting frisky.
But the thing I wanted to tell you (so long for distributive attention, I've just burnt my baguette and chicken and will have to start it over again) is just how different the experience of reading something and watching the same thing being translated on screen is. I am obviously no neuroscientist, but I am an avid and normally a quick reader. When you read something, you are at once completely spellbound and totally free: you are taken with the characters' interaction, but you are the master of your course imagining them. You placate your own vision of the world on what you read and, at the same time, you are being overtly manipulated by the storyteller: how this can be is, for sure, a mystery. When you watch an adaptation of what you once read, half of the work is being already done for you: you don't have to imagine these people interacting, they are walking and talking in front of you and then, you focus on other things. It's all about the energy they manage (or not) to convey: acting is, in a fair measure, akin to channeling that energy.
As far as I can tell, the scriptwriters opted for a more subdued approach to Jamie, Claire, sex and old age. But can you say with absolute certainty we aren't collectively projecting our own fantasies on what is certainly Herself's very euphemistic, almost conservative way of writing sex scenes? Anais Nin, she ain't. Embraces and moments of - ahem - togetherness abound and we are left to our own devices to imagine things.
Thus, the horrendous and, to be honest, childish battle between the Book Purists' Crowd and the rest of this fandom. It apparently was dealt with pretty quickly, but it did manage to leave a nasty, long lasting legacy: the Book Boyfriend had to go on and remain a screen fantasy. That is wrong. That selfishness almost floundered the book adaptation project and I bet whatever you want me to bet it took deep feelings not to also compromise something else, money can't buy.
A long answer for a simple question. Make of it whatever you wish, Anon: I wrote it with pleasure, though. :)
