Sea cruise
Tumblr media
Pairing: Yangyang (NCT/WayV) x GN!Reader; Genre: Mermaid AU, Fantasy, Fluff and Tragedy?; Rating: sfw, nc-17; Warnings: mermaid!yangyang including description of physical attributions just like webbed fingers, gills, scales, fear of drowning, hinted character death, yangyang is kinda too naive and doesn’t understand human needs for air; Wordcount: 1.531
Summary: You successfully avoided conversations with the high society and ended sitting on the deck of the yacht. As you relished in your loneliness you noticed something or rather someone in the water.
A/N: This is kinda based on a poem I found. And I kinda wanted to try a not happy ending... for once.. not sure whether it will happen again...
Tumblr media
A mermaid found a swimming lad,
Picked him for her own,
Pressed her body to his body,
Laughed; and plunging down
Forgot in cruel happiness
That even lovers drown.
~ William Butler Yeats
The pale moonlight as well as the lights of the sea cruise sparkled on the otherwise dark waves surrounding the yacht.
Even though a party played loudly on board of the yacht, the small platform at the end of the boat seemed serene and peaceful.
You sat on the edge of the platform, feet dangling into the cool water. During the nights the water became even colder but you didn’t mind it. Actually, you welcomed the cold, cooling your heated skin from all the champagne you had downed to even bear the presence of all the others still partying on deck.
Loud hollering and laughing reminded you how much you regretted joining this party, wishing you wouldn’t have let yourself get talked into this by the receptionist of your hotel.
You sighed deeply, splashing some water with your feet while you tried to focus on something else than the regret deeply nestled inside of your chest. Your fingers trailed the fabric of your clothes as a slight pout formed on your lips.
The boat had anchored at this spot and probably wouldn’t continue its way for another few hours if not the wee hours of early morning. For a split second you thought about jumping into the water with or without your clothes but the fear they would leave you behind, unknown you weren’t on board anymore, kept you in your place.
You longingly let your gaze wander over the surface of the sea, when you spotted something between the waves. A frown appeared on your face while you squinted your eyes, hoping to identify whatever you saw.
It disappeared ever so often between the small waves and you started to wonder whether you actually saw something or your mind was playing tricks on you. Thinking that you had too much champagne you lost your interest. Instead you leaned back on your arms and stared up into the sky, watching the stars twinkle above your head.
You weren’t able to shake off the feeling that you should keep on looking at the thing between the waves. You groaned silently and tilted your head, trying to find the thing within the water.
A gasp got caught in your lung when you realised it had come closer to the boat. You sat up completely, even leaning slightly over the platform as you tried to identify what you saw.
Your whole body shivered once your eyes told you, you saw a person and not something between the waves. You gulped heavily, heart racing within your chest.
Dark eyes met your gaze, almost hypnotising you and keeping you in place as the person came closer and closer. You were too stunned to move anyway, noting down every little detail you could make out the closer he came.
He pushed his blond hair out of his face, revealing webbed fingers and sharp nails before his hand dropped under the surface again. By now he was only an arm’s length away from you. Feeling bolder, since you didn’t scream or move, he pushed himself further out of the water.
Your eyes dropped to his bare chest, seeing some spots sparkling in green, purple, blue or yellow all across his skin. At first you thought of them as wounds but they changed the colour however the lights of the boat or the moon hit them. Mesmerised by the colourful play, you hadn’t noticed how he had placed his webbed fingers on the platform to your sides.
Your eyes wandered back up to his face, shortly stopping at his neck, where gills interrupted his otherwise flawless skin. Your gaze trailed further up, meeting his eyes again. A small smile spread over your lips as his stare reminded you of a puppy.
“Who are you?”
His eyes dropped to your lips, a slight frown appearing on his face. He shortly looked back up into your eyes before he focused on your lips again.
You had an inkling, he wanted you to repeat your questions. You smiled, this time asking him slower.
His eyes lit up in excitement and he pointed a webbed finger at himself. “Yangyang!”
You introduced yourself the same way with a wide grin, pointing at your own chest and saying your name slowly. You nodded almost giddily when he repeated it.
“It’s a beautiful name. Nothing like the names from my home.”
You nearly choked on your own spit, hearing him speak so effortlessly. And there you had been thinking he wasn’t able to speak your language at all. “Where is your home?”
Yangyang looked back over his shoulder, before he pointed one hand over the vast ocean side. “Not that far from here.” He grinned, revealing two rows of sharp teeth, when he turned back and saw you squinting your eyes in hopes of seeing something in the far distance. “Are you alone?”
You rolled your head from one side to another, contemplating his question. “Kinda, but not really. I mean there are a ton of others on deck.”
“Why aren’t you with them?”
“It doesn’t feel like I fit in that world”, you admitted with a shrug of your shoulders.
Yangyang pushed himself up and sat down on the platform beside you, craning his neck in hopes to see something from the deck.
You on the other hand stared down at his lap, not seeing legs like you had naively expected. Instead your eyes followed colourful scales down to a fluke that was half hidden by the water still.
“In what world do you fit?” Yangyang asked you, once he gave up on peaking at the deck. His attention turned back to you, his dark eyes trained on your face while he waited for your answer.
“I don’t know.”
He tilted his head in confusion, reminding you even more of a large puppy. “How can you not know?”
“It’s hard to explain”, you murmured and looked down at your hands.
“Where do you feel comfortable?”
You dwelled on his question for a while, pondering what you could answer without sounding stupid. A soft chuckle escaped your lips and you shook your head. “The last time I felt truly comfortable was in a bathtub, surrounded by water and truly at peace.”
Yangyang lit up in excitement. “Then you would fit in my world! We’re always surrounded by water! And we can swim with whales or play around with fish. It feels peaceful to do whatever you want!” Yangyang pushed himself back into the water, shortly disappearing from your sight before he broke through the surface again. “Come with me to my world.”
You knew you shouldn’t do it, you knew it was a stupid thought. Yet, your yearning for peace had become too great. You bit on your lower lip, still debating with yourself, when Yangyang held a hand up in front of you, offering you to take it.
“I got you.”
A smile spread over your lips and you nodded, tenderly placing your hand in his as you scooted closer to the edge of the platform. With a small yelp you dove into the water. The second Yangyang pulled you above the surface, you gasped loudly, feeling the coldness of the water creeping through your clothes.
“You’re going to love it!” Yangyang promised you and pulled you further away from the yacht.
You tightly held onto his hand, helplessly paddling with your legs despite knowing they were basically useless next to his strong tail. Your teeth began to chatter from the cold and your feet started to feel numb.
Yangyang pulled you against his chest, wrapping his arms around you. He even rubbed over your arms, though with his own cold body it barely helped. “I’m sure you’ll get used to it”, he said with a soft laugh and nodded reassuringly. “I can’t wait to show you everything!”
With that - and before you were able to take a deep breath - Yangyang pulled you down with him into the depth of the sea. As the light slowly vanished you noticed Yangyang almost glowed within the dark, being the only thing you could make out now.
Your lungs started to burn and your eyes got wide, realising what the dread blooming inside of you meant. Panic filled your thoughts and yet Yangyang only happily grinned at you, diving down deeper and deeper. You tried moving out of his strong hold, almost violently tapping his chest until he stopped and stared at you.
“What’s wrong?”
You wanted to cry, knowing you couldn’t answer him like that. Your vision blurred and you desperately tried to tell him that you needed air, pointing at his gills and your throat that was bare.
“I don’t understand”, he frowned and shook his head, “just tell me what’s wrong.”
You opened your mouth, ready to say you needed air but only bubbles escaped your lips, floating towards the surface and out of your reach. Dark spots appeared in your vision and while your mind raged in panic your body felt heavier than ever.
“Hey? What’s wrong? Tell me!” Yangyang shook you, pleading with you to say something but you barely registered it.
The last thing on your mind; He finally showed you peace.

According to NBC here in the US, the missing titanic sub has been found. As debris. Off the bow of the Titanic wreckage.
And it looks like the sub suffered what we all suspected, and what was undoubtedly the more merciful of the two options: a catastrophic implosion from the pressure.
Also, more info has come to light about the fishing trawler with the hundreds of migrants that sank cataclysmically off the coast of Greece, indicating that the greek coast guard knew about the vessel AND how much trouble the vessel was in, and were towing it at a speed that made it capsize, at which point they unhooked the tow line and watched the trawler sink without helping the passengers to safety. Despite a bunch of other ships trying to help as well throughout the whole ordeal.
So a lot of people are dead, all because of regulations (and the lack thereof) regarding sea-faring vessels and rescue protocols. People shouldnt be allowed to make a business charging a ton of money for a ride on an uncertified, unsafe, un-seaworthy ship going deep into the ocean with no distress beacon or tether to the mothership. People also shouldnt be allowed to enact laws that criminalize the ferrying of refugees, which then force the refugees to hitch rides on fishing trawlers, and which also prevent people from helping those fishing trawlers full of refugees due to fear of legal consequences.
Hopefully BOTH of these events spark changes on an international scale in terms of what is legally allowed to be sailed, who is legally allowed to be the passengers, and what the rescue protocols are in the event of disaster for any seafaring vessel, illegal or not. It shouldnt be just the global 1% who get 24/7 search parties and remote-operated submersibles helping rescue them.
