I’m struggling to pin down why everyone thought aglaya was madly in love with artemy in p2 specifically when yes there was similar dialogue in p1, but I think it could be a case where the overly flowery language and weirdness of everything surrounding p1 makes things seem deeper than equally complex narrative points in p2.

also if this is the case that aglaya and maria are genuinely fully in love with both of their charges respectively, I think that’s an incredibly weak (and mysoginistic) narrative point and I stand by the cooler more awesome interpretation of them using romance to hide and weaponize their manipulation. Do you see how them actually being in love and doing dumb-in-love stuff just sorta snatches their agency and reassigns it to random feelings shit. And this is not my general view on romance driven character motivation, I think Saburov is done quite well in this regard actually like he’s obsessed with his wife to his worst detriment and it fucks him over in this power game he plays. Victor literally lets himself get possessed! Like I acknowledge we can have good hopeless love narratives. But with the way they play out in the women characters it’s kinda always ‘ohhh noooo the object of my affection is too busy for me </33333 I guess I will have to desperately vie for his attention :(((‘ and if we take the characters at face value (like everyone always does) we get that same plotline THREE FUCKING TIMES!!! faction & location stuff:

a sketch page from the very early days exploring shape languages for factions like elves, dwarves, wardens, the necropolis, tevinter, and rivain, also includes concepts for the mages’ college and the ben-hassrath

early rivain concept arts have npcs with a similar armour patterning to duncan’s, suggesting it’s a mark of his rivaini heritage like i always thought!

the depiction of the ““creation story”” suggests elves were mimicking the bodies of dwarves when they formed their own, not humans like i think mythal says in game flashbacks, which would make more sense timeline wise

there’s concept art of the city of ventus, which i believe is of particular relevance to mercar players? it’s right on the border of arlathan forest, and surrounded by magical statues holding out raised hands forming a ward along the tree line to keep it from encroaching

the home base was going to be a lovable fixer-upper of a ship given to us by isabela, named the dumat. this didn’t fit the spy theme they were originally going for, so they tried really really hard to make it a submarine without feeling anachronistic by making it sort of sea monster shaped. there are a lot of cutaways and schematics. they were going to give it a mystery engine that you would get light fetch quests to feed random objects: “ten dried lavender flowers, five quail’s eggs, three brass belt buckles, etc.....” the submarine then turned into an undersea mansion on the back of some giant shambling sea creature you would never get a good look at

later on there were some funny takes on the lighthouse specifically, like bringing back the sea creature theme to put it on the back of an interdimensional veil whale, or having it be the true location of the black emporium with a collection of eluvians that xenon the antiquarian lets you use

there’s a tiny concept art for a “high-speed aravel chase” in a canyon like a western

tevinter gladiators are mentioned a couple times. we WEREEE going to get to see the minrathous proving grounds :( there’s also a dwarven embassy concept art somebody take me out back and shoot me

there are a lot of ghilan’nain creature designs that didn’t make it into the game which is a shame but i can see why they would have been resource heavy

the antiva concept arts are so gorgeous. a lot of it got through! and definitely the overall Vibe made it. at some point it seems to have been antiva city itself; they don’t call it treviso and they mention the circle of magi as a major landmark

saarbrak, another qunari companion, seems to have lastest the longest of the abandoned concepts. he’s the only non-canon one who got as far as having a place for him sketched into designs of the lighthouse: “saarbrak’s planning room”. mentions and sightings of what might be him are sporadic and i think you only see his name on that sketch, but i’m connecting it to the description “a potential qunari companion evolved from saarebas to dapper qunari spy, offering a deeper look into qunari culture”

the embroidery on harding’s clothes is how she passes the time while “waiting for days in a sniper perch” on missions. i just thought that was cute

Hi!!!!!! So, I would be absolutely thrilled to share drafts for anything original I make, but so far I've worked almost entirely from books. I'm always happy to say where something is from and walk you through any adaptations I've made or how a structure works and I'd probably send drafts privately if there is a specific one you ask about, but I feel a bit weird about just posting all of them publicly. Alternately, some of these are kind of "simple" or "universal" and may be in several books and I just worked them out in my own scribbly notebook, so there isn't really any draft I can share.

^ this is 2 block doubleweave, with a different tie-up for each piece. 8/2 cotton at 20epi (per layer, so 40epi in the reed) which was a bit too close. There's only one way to make it, it's not really a draft that can someone can lay claim to privately. Thread a straight draw, the wide block on shafts 1 to 4 (32 threads) and the narrow block on shafts 5 to 8 (16 threads), even shafts in one colour and odd shafts in the other. Slowly carefully derive the lift liftplan yourself according to which layers you want up and down at each point; I can share a photo of my notes but I'm not sure how useful they would be. It's in lots of books too - anything explaining doubleweave for 8 shaft looms will have it.

^ these are twills from the twill gamp section of Strickler's A Handweaver's Book of 8 Shaft Patterns absolutely phenomenal resource. 8/2 cotton at 24epi which is about right.

^ overshot also from Strickler, drafts 471-474. Tabby 16/2 cotton at 24epi, pattern weft 8/2 cotton (I also did some pieces with pattern weft 15/2 wool).

^ the first one is a copy, thread for thread, of ZZZZZ from 8 Shafts: Beyond The Beginning published by the Complex Weavers Guild. The second one is a narrower adaptation of it without reversals. Advancing wall of Troy twill, 2/15 wool, I think it was 24epi.

The third one is a near copy of the threading in For My Brother from the same book. I changed where the pattern was centred and I tried out many different treadlings as I went, just to see what happened. Interleaved twill - design a twill threading, then repeat it 3 more times starting 2 shafts over and in a different colour each time, so the final threading always goes "black grey white purple black grey white purple..." on {shafts 1, 3, 5, 7} and {shafts 2, 4, 6, 8} every time but it starts on different ones of those shafts. Warp 8/2 cotton boucle at 36epi, weft 33/2 60% cotton 40% linen.

^ deflected doubleweave! 15/2 wool at 20epi which was about right. I adapted a draft from Briand's The Art of Weaving by making all the blocks 4 ends wide instead of the 2, 4, or 6 ends they were in the book. Treadling is just made up on the fly (within the block structure), sometimes trying to make specific shapes and sometimes generating a random sequence on a computer. But again there's only really one way to make this on 8 shafts, it may turn up in several books.

I love your use of patterned and textured brushes like these ones! The little dots and blending of colors is so pretty!

Do you have any tips for how to incorporate these brushes into drawings? Or how to get it to look good? (Tried so hard) (still didn't look like That™) (no idea what I'm doing)

and for tips lets see- whenever i use brushes like that (ill use the rake like one as an example)) i tend to do those curved shapes especially when a color is bordering another but i usually dont just leave it at the brush ! i go back over it and define standout gaps and lines- sometimes i cover up the majority of the og brush stroke with other small swoops- it involves a lot of layering. i use the textured brush as a starting point and then i push it further with other brushes ! also with the dots- it wasnt a pattern brush i just adore adding small stuff by hand ^^

moral of the story- layers ! lots of layering, like how youd do in a physical painting, and also dont be to precious with the placement ! sometimes having that randomness and chaos is really freeing ! (thats why i love working with randomized hue jitter brushes and liners with random dithering ! ! it adds that excitement and unpredictability to my art process !))

i hope this helps ! and also im gonna be making a list of the brushes i like/ use on a regular basis cause i know a couple people have been asking !))

how to make cool blobby turing patterns in photoshop

i'll preface with i learned the basic loop from skimming a tutorial on youtube, but as someone who prefers written tutorials i'm sure many would appreciate one! also, the second part of this is some of the visual effects i figured out on my own using blending modes and stuff.

i'm using photoshop CS4 on a mac so some buttons and stuff might be in different places on windows and newer photoshop versions but all the actions are the same. my canvas is 1000x1000 pixels.

it's possible to do something similar in krita using this plugin, made by the love @arcaedex

it's also possible to do this in photopea, a free browser alternative to photoshop! the results are pretty much identical.

FIRST off you wanna get or make a black and white image of some kind. it has to be one layer. can be noise, a photo, a bunch of lines, whatever. here's mine, just some quick airbrush lines:

now find the actions tab. idk what it looks like in newer versions of photoshop but you probably won't need to dig!

hit the little page thingy to make a new pattern. once you hit 'record', it'll record everything you do. the little square 'stop' icon will end it.

now you want to do a high pass filter. you can mess around with the radius to change the size of your squiggles, but the tutorial had it set to 6. experiment!

now add the 'threshold' adjustment layer. i use the adjustments tab but i think there's also a dropdown menu somewhere. keep it at the default, 128. merge it down. (control or command + E or you can right click it like some kind of weirdo)

and finally, the gaussian blur! the radius of this affects the shape and size of your squiggles as well. i like to keep it around 4.5 but you can mess around with that too.

after that, hit 'stop' on the action you're recording, and then repeat it a bunch of times using the 'play' button, until you have something you like, like this:

WOW!! that was fun!! and only a little tedious thanks to the power of macros. anyway, here's some fun layer blending stuff i like to do. it's with a different pattern cause i made this bit first.

anyway, using a black and white gradient (or a grey base that you do black and white airbrush on), make a layer with the vivid light. this will make the blobs look thicker or thinner.

then, for cool colors, do a gradient map adjustment layer over that:

and finally, my best friend, the overlay layer. just using a gradient here bc i'm lazy, but feel free to experiment with brushes, colors, and blending modes!

NOW GO. MAKE COOL SHIT WITH THE POWER OF MATH. AND SEND IT TO ME

also these are not hard and fast rules PLEASE mess around with them to see what kind of weird shit you can make. here's a gif. as you can see i added some random airblush blobs in the middle of it, for fun.

I’ve noticed people with Sagittarius/9H placements always seem to stand out in the field they pick or in some sort of way become pioneers. E.g. Jimi Hendrix was a Sag stellium and has a reputation of a guitar God for his innovative and crazy good guitar skills. Teena Marie (Sag moon) became a beloved non black R&B singer/artist at Motown. I just feel like Sag placements are just out here breaking barriers lol.

People with trining risings all have a certain similar look!!

E.g Most Air risings tend to have pointy chins and high cheekbones with prominent noses—I’ve noticed they always seem to have a prominent nose bridge even if it’s not that thin but it sorta gives them this Greek god/goddess look with their eyebrows slightly arching.

Disclaimer: These are my silly HCs, I'm not tryna convince you of anything, just doing some silly stuff!!

Literally don't even know what compelled me to do this but I feel like sharing how I think they'd dress in modern times soooo lets go.

Sebastian:

Loose-fit clothing kinda guy.

Lots of darker, muted colors. I don't think he'd wear much of anything super bright outside of maybe some reds and whites. (And the khaki range for pants and pants only)

Man is the lover of all things cargo pants. Long, short, several pockets, zippable leg, idc bro loves them all. He is single-handedly keeping companies in business, yk?

Loose-fitting shirts. Not necessarily super oversized, maybe one size up to give him some room.

(He'll wear compression shirts every once in a while, but that's a whole different thing, awooga.)

Sleepwear-wise, he's either in some old t-shirt & shorts or he's just sleeping in his boxers. Sorry, I don't make the rules; I feel like he'd overheat easily, even in the winter lol.

Rings, rings, he loves rings. Specifically, the chunkier, bigger ones, and he wears them all the time. He's got one on basically every single finger outside of his left ring finger (ifykyk lol) and he'll wear them basically every day.

Bracelets too. Like those pull cord bracelets, he'd love those. And those random, like, really thick ones that have no meaning at all but look cool. Also, if you ever gave him those string friendship bracelets, he'd be wearing them forever. Bury him with it, tbh. Like one cord necklace with a pendant/beads on it maybe, or just a plain one.

He gives me dirty Converse kid vibes, but tbh I think he'd like to keep the majority of his shoes pretty nice and shaped up. Maybe he has a pair or two that just suck because he goes outside in them all the time, but for the most part, when he goes places (that aren't going to get his shoes ruined), he's wearing nice shoes.

(His pet peeve is accidentally scuffing them; don't tell anyone.)

As for piercings, he might have his ears pierced or maybe just one. I don't really have a huge personal opinion on this one, but I've seen some fanarts with him having them, and I liked it! Suppose it just depends on what. But I think he'd be down to getting at least one piercing in his lifetime.

Look, I know that he seems like the kinda guy to get some dorky ahh tattoo that has zero meaning, but personally, I feel like he's more of a sentimental tattoo kinda guy. Yk the one who gets his parents names on his chest right above his heart to remember them, or Anne's name there too, important dates in time in his life, that kind of stuff. (With the exception of one stupid tattoo he got ((probably while drunk lol)) on his ankle or something.)

Ominis:

He dresses a lot nicer/more put together than Sebastian.

He'd wear lots of blacks, greys, and other muted colors with the exception of some lighter shades of those colors and white. He wears a lot more white than Seb does. Maybe the occasional pastel yellow collared shirt (or a polo) that complements his complexion and hair well. (Just because he can't see how he dresses doesn't mean he doesn't know that he's slaying.)

Not loose, almost always form-fitting or close to his size. He's not a really big guy, so it's not a hassle getting into or anything.

Wears dress pants on the daily. He wants to look put together and nice everywhere he goes.

Collared shirts, polos occasionally, mostly nice shirts with long sleeves and the occasional shorter sleeve. He's not a massive fan of just showing skin, so he'll opt for the longer ones more.

Sleepwear-wise, I think he's a matching set pajama kinda guy. Silk or satin (sleep skincare 💅), nothing too out of the ordinary with patterns or just completely solid colors.

He's a king at layering and making things look nice. Long coats over almost any outfit, vests of any kind over collared shirts, waistcoats, scarves, etc. He just looks classy all the time yk?

There are some exceptions: If he's really close to you and he doesn't care how he looks, he's probably showing up in just a t-shirt, and if you're lucky, his hair won't be done either, but that hardly happens, so good luck trying to convince him to leave the house specifically without his hair done.

I don't think he'd wear rings to be honest, maybe like one, and that'd be it. However I do think he'd wear a necklace that had some sort of sentimental property to it (ex: his aunt noctua gave it to him or something like that.) But he'd wear it under his shirts and closest to his heart.

I don't think he'd get piercings or tattoos. Tattoo's specifically because those are just one thing he'd be irked about not being able to see. What if they wanted to be funny and messed it up or put the wrong thing? It's just a no from him, tbh. Piercings are the same way.

His shoes are always nice. You won't ever be able to find a single scuff or crease in them. (Fun fact: in the game, Ominis' shoes do have scuffs on them, presumably from bumping into things. So in this HC, he was told, & now he makes Sebastian help him get the scuffs off lol).

Garreth:

Dare I say his style is similar to Sebastian's but with a LOT more sweaters and hoodies. The majority of the sweaters that he has, his mom has made.

Lose clothing all dayyyy. Cuz no. 1, it's comfy, and no. 2 ... IT'S COMFY!!

Wears a lot more lighter colors, though, when it comes to t-shirts and stuff. He likes reds and light yellows (of course, he's a Gryffindor lol), and other stuff like that. Colors that complement his complexion and hair really well.

Loose pants, probably lots of sweatpants too. (I am vibing with his style fr lol.)

Sleepwear wise: I'm sorry, you cannot tell me this boy doesn't overheat like an afternoon in June. He's sleeping in his boxers or some light sleep shorts; otherwise, he's baking himself alive.

When it comes to layering, he's not the best, but he can rock a good white collar under a sweater from time to time.

Don't really think he'd have any piercings (and if he did, it'd probably be his ears, but even then). As for tattoos, he'd either get one stupid one and regret it & then totally get scolded for it by his mom LOL.

This boy goes through shoes like nobody's business. He's constantly getting up to something or being a dork outside. And since he has older brothers, his shoes growing up were probably hand-me-downs that did not last at all.

So needless to say, he has been pestered to at least have one nice pair lol.

Leander:

Oh boy, here we go. Leander's style is a little bit interesting.

He's the kinda guy to dress up nice 2-3 days of the week, and then the rest of the days either doesn't care or wakes up too late to do so, so he's throwing on the first thing in his closet that he sees.

Bro will walk around one day in nice slacks and a collared shirt and then the next be walking around in neon green athletic shorts and a yellow t-shirt.

But day to day, he tries to dress at least a mix of in between. Wears mostly t-shirts and doesn't have a huge preference on how they fit him. Mostly wears more fitted ones, but if they were oversized, he wouldn't really care. Some days he'd pull out a nicer shirt and dress accordingly.

Dress pants/slacks on the days where he at least has time to not scramble to his closet and grab something. (He's trying his best, okay? I love him lol.) Mostly khaki or colors within those shades because they really go with anything.

Dare I say he actually has matching sleepwear sets that he wears? (I wanna have matching PJ sets with him. 😔). Occasionally he'll wear sweats and a t-shirt to bed, but mostly he likes his matching sleepwear sets.

When he has the time, he can really dress nicely. He has a knack for layering or at least knowing what looks good/decent. He does the same thing with sweaters as Garreth. (Yes, he knows when he's getting dressed last minute it's not going to look the best; don't bully him.) His momma taught him well.

If he were to wear any bracelets, it'd probably be those string ones, like the "friendship" bracelets or something. He definitely knows how to make them because of his little sister, and he'll sit down and make them with her. He's probably had like six on one wrist at a time, LOL.

No piercings or tattoos, and he will not cave if someone tries to convince him. They're just not his thing.

Actually takes care of his shoes pretty well. He knows the value of a good shoe. And if his outfit isn't going to look the best, at least his shoes will!

Bokuto slumped over onto the open book and groaned. He was tired of studying before it even started. Why did he have to hit the books when he could be practicing his spikes right now?

“I see you’re trying out the osmosis technique of studying?”

He shot up, a loose page from his notebook stuck to his forehead.

“Y/n-chan!”, he said in surprise.

“Akaashi-kun asked me to step in for him today. He had an errand to run.”

Bokuto made a mental note to buy his friend an armload of new manga. His chest felt all bubbly when you sat down across from him in the empty classroom.

“So.”, you began and with a cool flick of your wrist opened your textbook to a diagram of cell anatomy, “Let’s start with the basics of the cell structure. What do you know about the nucleus?”

“It’s… in the middle?”

You looked at the picture. “I mean… you’re not wrong.”, you said fairly, then moved your finger a little pointing to something else, “What about cytoplasm?”

“It’s the stuff that keeps everything in place?”

“Hm… again, not… entirely wrong, I guess, but I’m sensing a pattern.”, you laughed and the sound made Bokuto’s heart flutter.

“Alright, one more try. What about the mitochondria?”

Oh, this one he knew!

“It’s the powerhouse of the cell!”, he exclaimed excitedly but his face got a little more color when he saw your frown, “That one has to be right, though. Kuroo taught me!”

“So uhm, I don’t know who this Kuroo is but I think you should spend some time apart. At least until after the exams.” You patted his shoulder.

Next, you had him open his notes for an exercise and were impressed and terrified how he managed to even read them between all the doodles. Most revolved around volleyball, of course, others were just random swirls or shapes. When he got to the pages about genetics however, he confidently turned his folder towards you so you could check if his notes were correct before starting to work, but a moment later he practically threw himself over the pages to cover them.

Although, too late. You had already seen the elaborately decorated heart next to the table of Mendel’s law with yours and his name. It was even colored.

“Uhm, Bokuto-san?”

“No?”, he mumbled feebly as his hair seemed to deflate.

“Do you… are you- I mean… do you like me?”

“I wouldn’t call it like…”

“Oh?”

“More like… super crazy in love?”

“Oh!”

When he looked up and saw you blush, his confidence returned immediately.

“Do you like me, too? - Argh, I had this whole thing planned. I wanted to win the next tournament and confess to you with the medal and- but if you like me, too, please let me be your boyfriend, y/n-chan!”

You were so perplexed that the only thing you could say was, “Are you sure?”

He nodded vehemently, practically hovering out of his seat in anticipation of your reply.

“Yes, Bokuto-san, I’d love that.”

He jumped up and cheered, feeling as if he’d just won a championship. Next thing you knew he lifted you out of the chair and pulled you into a bone crushing hug, your feet dangling off the ground.

“Oh my gosh, Bokuto, put me down before you hurt yourself!”, you squeaked but he only squished you further, melting into the softness of your body. “Not yet.”, he mumbled into the crook of your neck, “I’ll be the best boyfriend, you’ll see!”

Ancient Hearthian (Outer Wilds) Pattern

I got so many requests for the ancient Hearthian from Outer Wilds, and they really are so much simpler than the Nomai - but also, my notes and pics are a bit less detailed, and I've been so bad at even getting on my computer lately - so lemme try and cobble this together so anyone interested at least has something to work with!

Technical stuff: 3mm crochet hook, 9mm safety eyes, Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Jade, probably... but any nice shade would do!

Body:

They start as one long piece that kinda looks like a tadpole! A lot of the shaping is just by gentle smooshing it, but there are a few rows where you increase or decrease unevenly to contribute to it... I'm not even sure how much it really makes a difference tho!

6 sc in a magic circle

inc 6x to make 12 stitches

(3 inc, 3 sc) 2x to make 18 stiches (and a slightly elongated oval rather than circular cross section when looking face on)

(2 sc, inc) 6x to make 24 stitches

9 rows of 24

Add eyes and begin to stuff

Across the "top" of the body (wherever you choose that to be) do (1 sc, 1 dec) 3x, then 15 more sc to make a row of 21 stitches

Again across the "top" of the body do (1 sc, 1 dec) 3x, then 12 more sc to make a row of 18 stitches

From here, it's slow decreases (still at the top) and stuffing as you go:

Feet and Legs:

It looks like I really winged it a bit here, so let me try and figure out approximately what I did - the main idea is I think I made a very small tube for the feet, then pulled the tails through to the center, chained into a random stitch, and and did a few chains up and down to give it a short leg, then used those tails as well to sew them on to the body... I'm afraid I can hardly tell what I did for those legs, even looking at it in person, like it might just be a few knots... I am hoping that for here it isn't too much trouble for you to improvise something that works well for you!:

4 sc in a magic circle

3 rows of 4, then close off and pull the tails through the small cylinder, out the center

chain into a random stitch, then into an adjacent stitch,

sc "around" these two for 2-3 rows, to make a short leg

use the rest of the tail to sew onto the body.

Very messy, possibly blurry.... but hopefully this at least gives a bit more inspiration.

Lando tracing patterns on your back whilst your cuddling and just something really cute and fluffy

The touches were soft, slow and not sexual, Lando just wanted to feel you close to him. The car wasn't exactly where he would like it to be, but he tried looking at the positive changes the team were able to make in just a week into the season.

"I can hear you thinking", you whispered into his jaw, separating yourselves just enough so you could see his face fully, his hands on your back and under your pyjama top as he drew random shapes on your back.

Out of curiosity, how far ahead are you on the comic? I mean, you must have it all planned and written out, but I imagine that you are drawing the future of Aurora even while we're reading it.

So is Arc 2 already illustrated and ready for upload while you're on like Arc 5 or something? I'm by no means undermining your need for a break; I'm shocked that you've been uploading continuously for over 4 years at this point. I'm just interested to know how long it takes a person to make something this great. And also if you change any details in the final edit?

Basically: what's the workflow like?

Also I think you low-key inspired me to pick up painting as a hobby. I'm ready to pour so much money into creating things that I know I'll hate. :)

God, arc 5? That's a very generous assessment of how fast I can draw!

Typically, when the comic is updating regularly, I keep a buffer of 10 to 20 completed pages. Right now, in the interest of taking a break, the buffer is 0 completed pages.

Chapter 1 of Arc 2 is completely storyboarded, meaning it's sketched out, the dialog is all mostly finalized barring last-minute rephrasements, etc. It can be read in its current form, it just looks unpretty. In fact, just for fun, here's a sneak peek!

In the next month I'll go through and finalize as many pages from this chapter as possible - which means locking down the panel borders, fleshing out the backgrounds, lining, shading, coloring, polish, etc. - which will be the process of building up a new buffer for when the comic starts back up again in January. During that time, I'll also be storyboarding Chapter 2 and as much of the following parts as I can manage.

I have the next several chapters and sub-arcs planned out in loose timelines - event A happens at location B leading to consequences C and D, stuff like that. Chapter 2, being the closest, is a little more fleshed-out, with a more detailed bullet-pointed timeline and various character ideas I've had that might or might not make it into the final version.

What exactly the chapter breakdown is going to look like is a little more complicated. Initially I'd planned for Chapter 1 to be low-stakes downtime and Chapter 2 to quickly kick off the high-octane adventure again, but when I started bullet-pointing out the stuff I wanted to do in Chapter 2, I ended up with a big pile of slower-paced character moments I thought were well worth exploring, so the runtimes might stretch a little.

Translating those brainstormed notes into storyboards and dialog is what I would classify as the "writing" part of this process. It happens at an erratic pace largely determined by the whims of whatever muse decides to get me in a headlock that day; sometimes I go weeks with no storyboarding progress, sometimes I hammer out fifteen pages in one day.

It's kinda like weaving, to me. The soon-to-be-arriving parts of the story are the most finalized, the most densely woven. A little ways beyond that, things get looser - some patterns may be locked down, but the actual work that'll hold it together hasn't been done yet. And in the far-flung future arcs, it's just the basic bones of the story and a pile of the threads I've planned to use. I know the shape of it, but in order for it to be fun and engaging for me to make it, I need to give myself room to be creative when I'm putting the whole thing together.

I actually have a file called the "Toolbox" that contains every random character or subplot idea I've had, and sometimes when I'm debating where to go with a chunk of story, I'll crack it open and scan through to see if anything jumps out begging to be used. Lotta fun stuff in there that may or may not ever see the light of day. Dropping stuff in the Toolbox is one of the most fun and freeing parts of the process for me!

A/N: Aaa my first crochet pattern! And also a lil celebration of 500 followers ^^ (My explanations kinda suck imo, so don't be affraid to ask about anything♥)

Hook size: 5mm (I use size 3.5 yarn tho) Other supplies: Stuffing, material for the features & stitchmarkers Difficulty: Beginner! (could even be your first project ^^) Final size: About the size of my hand

Stitches/Abbreviations used:

ss - slip stitch

st - stitch(es)

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

inc - increase (two st into one st)

dec - crochet two stitches together

inc-lump - part made out of increases (you'll see when you get there)

Join each round with ss and ch1 to start another round

For the wings, horn and face I recommend felt (my mouths are out of fabric bc I didn't have pink felt) and for the shibari rope I just used some random twine I had.

Shape-wise, for the horns I cut out a circle and cut that into quarters. For the eyes I cut out a small circle and cut that in half (plus some tweaking to get that uneven shape). The mouth is kinda annoying bc you just gotta draft up the shape. And for the wings I have the shape here:

How you attach these is entirely up to you, but I've sewn on the tail and horns(didn't even need to stuff them) and hot glued the face features.

If you want to add his tail, you possibly could pull some pieces of the same yarn through the centre stitch on his back and braid it (or just cut it out of felt)

Personally, I like to think that Val has an artistic side herself

Whenever she’s not practicing or training for hockey, she’s curled up somewhere sketching or painting whatever comes to mind

I like to think she’s a pretty decent artist too

So when she learns that her S/O is also into art, she’s thrilled

She’ll come to you most of the time for advice or ideas on a piece, especially if you’re at a higher skill level than she is

Sometimes there’ll be days where you’re hanging out alone together and just sitting close to each other while you both draw

If she isn’t in the mood to sketch or paint, or if she just doesn’t have any ideas, she’ll either lean against your shoulder to watch you work, or she’ll settle behind you and pull your back into her chest so she can hold you

When in the latter position, her arms will rest comfortably around your waist without getting in the way and her head will plant itself gently against your shoulder so she can peer over and watch you work

She’ll throw in plenty of compliments here and there about whatever it is you’re working on

If you’re looking for inspiration or encouragement, she’ll provide it for you somehow

If you like to sketch people and she sees that you’ve drawn her, she’ll get uncharacteristically sheepish, telling you that you made her look so good in your style and that she feels honored you chose her as your model

Definitely likes to do that challenge where you trade off drawings every five minutes and add something random to it until it’s a finished piece

I can either see her as having a really loose, relaxed style, or a unique abstract style where she focuses more on the angular sides of things

Regardless of her own style, she 100% likes to doodle you from time to time, especially if you’re nearby and she can use you for reference instead of going based off of memory

If she doesn’t draw or anything, then she’ll happily ask you to give her quick lessons here and there

Though, most of the time she just stares lovingly at you, adoring how passionate you are about your craft and how easily you can explain things to her (even if she’s not necessarily listening)

If you don’t have your sketchbook or anything solid to draw on, she’ll offer you one of her arms and a few pens or markers so you can doodle something random on her skin

She likes the feeling of you holding her arm so still and tracing random patterns or shapes against her skin, and she often gets lost in a daze just watching you draw on her

When you finish, she’ll keep her sleeves rolled up. Partially to let the ink dry, but mainly to show off what you’ve drawn on her

Not sure if she’d be the type to get tattoos, but if she ever did get one, she would go to you immediately to help her design one

If you ever enter your pieces into competitions or shows for school or otherwise, she’s going to be your #1 supporter the entire time. Even if you don’t get first place, she’s cheering you on and offering you every ounce of encouragement she has in her body

You’re always there to cheer her on during her hockey matches, so she likes to return the favor, even if it’s just a small competition

If you ever open commissions, she’s the first one to buy one from you, and she’ll continue to buy one from you at least once or twice a month

She’ll bring it up to her team and gladly show off your work, telling them you’re open for commissions

They all also buy a piece from you each time, wanting to support you almost as much as Val does herself

Her teammates adore you with all of their hearts, and they love how happy you make Val, so they want to return the favor and let you know that they admire and appreciate you

Val absolutely spam-likes your posts if you have an art account. That, and she’ll post each and every one on her story with compliments (as well as lowkey bragging that she has such a creative and talented girlfriend)

Will 100% pose or model for you if you want her to, though she’ll crack plenty of flirty jokes throughout your process, wanting to see you smile as you work

If you’re just wanting to have a chill session where you’re just drawing (separately or together), she’ll put on music in the background, occasionally singing along with it if she knows it

Speaking of music:

If you’re more of a musical artist, she’s absolutely wanting to listen to whatever you make, even if it’s just something as simple as a beat

If you play any instruments or sing, she’s sitting right by your side or holding you from behind as she listens to you play or sing

I can see her having a pretty voice, so if she were to ever sing with you, she’d likely make harmonies or duets sounds great

Definitely listens to any music you make and will support you all the way if you choose to try and make it into a career
