Don't think about Dean feeling the same way after Cas died that he did after Sam went into the pit in season 5. Don't think about Dean didn't want Cas to save him. Every part of him, every fiber he's got, wants to die... But he isn't gonna do either. Because he made a promise (s05e22 Swan Song). Don't think about him being worried that loving Miracle was going to get the dog killed the way he can't help but feel it had gotten Cas killed, and so many others to boot. Don't think about the fact that he still doesn't believe Cas, still doesn't buy that he's the kinda man Cas thought he was.

Also don't think about him very much trying to be that man anyway. Don't think about him adopting Miracle anyway, or about the way he chose a blue collar so that he can remember why he's still going. Don't think about him wearing a tie like Cas' whenever they work on their case, blue-and-white-striped like he used to wear; it isn't the same, but it's enough. Don't think about the fact that he wears it loose intentionally, the way Cas would, because he's living to be the kinda man Cas loved.

Okay... here are the two sims I came up with. The top one is going to be the Master Spellcaster and the bottom one is going to be the new spellcaster. Currently, they don't even have names, so if I'm going to play this, I'm going to have to come up with something (suggestions welcome). I also have to decide what kind of relationship they start out with; whether they're neighbours, classmates, co-workers, best friends, partners (or some combination of those). or if they're complete random strangers who meet by chance. I'll take suggestions on that, too.

Anyway, i'm really pleased with how they turned out, regardless of what I end up doing with them. The second guy is giving me big "white and nerdy" Daniel Jackson vibes, and I'm getting "fashion model" from the first guy.

I spent my day thinking about Baldur's Gate lore...again *sigh*

So, let's begin...

I see people talking about Ketheric having more children than just Isobel.

What I understood is that Malus, Gerringothe and Thisobald are his siblings, and he had only one child: Isobel. 

I doubted this when Thisobald called him “Father Ketheric”, but it's probably just a title since he is head of his family ? Ketheric doesn't talk about other children, and I read nowhere informations about this. Added to this: we can’t really see it with Thisobald but him, Malus and Gerringothe are way more older than Isobel, they could be her uncles and aunt, but probably not her siblings. (That’s just my opinion and they're undead, so it's hard to judge. What is sure is that their relationship with Ketheric and Isobel is unclear.)

Also, I think it would have been weird for Ketheric to never talk about other children while his deep love for his family was proven many times, and it's what drove him through years of difficult life (and death), being a chew toy for Gods. (I mean…even Shar, a literal goddess, couldn’t erase the memories of his wife and daughter’s death…).

I would really like to know more about this story, firstly because I love reading lore (I WANT KNOWLEDGE, ANSWERS, GIMME EVERYTHING), and secondly because it would be useful to know for writing...👀

Sooooo a couple of days ago when I started writing this FF7 fic I made the rather impulsive decision to purchase Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story.

Because it's for fanfiction 'research purposes' so that totally justifies my dropping 14 bucks on a book. And totally not because I got drawn in by Turks being in the title.

Look. I am AWARE that I am grown-ass adult swiftly my glorious approaching mid-life crisis era and if I want to be utterly ridiculous and purchase a book for a 25+ year old game just for fanfiction research purposes then I'm not making any excuses.

I'm aware I'm ridiculous.

Anyway, this book? Actually kinda a banger. This is prolly the best light novel translation I've ever read. It's engaging and interesting. I'm only on like page 35 so it's too early to make any real decision but it's ALREADY paying off dividends in that I already have stuff I intend on folding into this fic.

Like apparently Elena was liaisoning with the WRO who mass produce painkillers for Geostigma patients because apparently it was agonizing. (Which makes sense from what little we see in Advent Children) and that the WRO was the ones who were gonna distribute it. I'd been having Tseng play as Reeve's sort of go-between so I'm going pivot from here because of that info.

I'm going to keep writing the fic but I am definitely going to put some effort over the next couple of days to read more into the book. Only problem I'm having so far is the printing is kinda small. I'd say it's like a 10pt font and isn't times new roman but a slightly lighter serif style font which for my 40+ eyes is JUST SMALL ENOUGH to make me strain to read it.

Which....blows on soooo many levels cause fuck me am I really getting that fucking old that I will be needing large format printing books in the next decade. Also, why the hell are there no digital copies of this or On the Way to a Smile??

I did find a digital copy of the fan-translated On the Way to a Smile online. It's definitely not as smooth as the translation for this book. Like I said, this is an exceptionally well translated light novel. I've been kinda burned repeatedly in the past when it comes to light novel translations and most have been kinda....meh.

Which is kinda understandable because it's hard to convey nuance, differing cultural norms and what have you from one language to another. I might actually pick up the official copy of On the Way to a Smile if it was done by the same team as this book.

EDIT: one other thing that makes buying this book completely worthwhile is apparently Rufus Shinra has the very uncomplimentary nickname if ‘Doofus Shinra’ because he was heading the Shinra empire when everything went to shit.

And you can bet your ass I will be incorporating that into this fic somehow

I’m sure in the original Japanese it’s prolly something else but it’s hilarious in the English translation. 🤣🤣🤣
