Boruto Theory

Okay, spoilers for the Boruto manga, so you may want to skip this if you're not caught up, especially if you're following the Boruto anime instead. Also, there are spoilers for the end of the Naruto manga/Naruto Shippuden/ The Last: Naruto the Movie as well if you're watching or reading those, so continue at your own risk.

You have been warned.

Anywho, this post is about the Boruto villain/neutral entity Eida. Eida is a young woman who was made a cyborg by former Kara member Amado. Although Eida has been given several powerful abilities, the most troublesome of them is her attraction ability. Said ability makes anyone around Eida fall in love with her, or at least develop a deep devotion to her. She has no control of it, and the only people who are not affected by it are blood relatives (like her younger brother Daemon, though he's already devoted to her), and Otsutsuki, whether born or changed into one like Boruto and Kawaki (in fact, she becomes a neutral entity because she hopes to win Kawaki's heart).

In Boruto chapter 76, however, it was discovered that neither Sarada nor Sumire were affected by Eida's attraction ability. Reading a Boruto forum afterward, someone suggested that it's probably because both of them have Otsutsuki DNA (Sarada being an Otsutsuki descendant, Sumire having been injected with the cells of an Otsutsuki descendant). Along that thought process, it would mean that anyone with Otsutsuki DNA, not just pure Otsutsuki, wouldn't be affected by Eida's ability.

In that regard, I wanted to make a list of people who are definitely or potentially immune to Eida's attraction. Now, the only known extant Otsutsuki descendants are members of the Uchiha, Senju, Uzumaki, and Hyuga clans. There are also several characters with either Senju or Uchiha DNA implanted in them in spite not being known Otsutsuki descendants.

Naruto is my Roman Empire and I’ve been reading MadaTobi fanfics so these r my Founders Thoughts that nobody asked for:

- Tobirama had a crush on Madara and it PISSED HIM OFF like they def had hate sex at one point LMAO

- totally personal preference: Naruto should’ve had more BLOOD AND GORE. I wanna see the grittiness and horror the shinobi world actually is and how revolutionary Naruto as a character is by choosing peace over violence. The only time we get that is Obito vs Kiri nin, Uchiha Massacre, Wave Arc, Orochimaru…before it turns into DBZ fights

The diamond on her head isn’t the 100 healing seal but instead a dupe. Orochimaru became interested in it after his battle with tsunade and tried to create his own-BUT it didn’t end up the same. Instead of healing, it does damage to sakura’s skin leaving marks. It still stores her chakra and increases her power when she unleashes it but it can be dangerous. Orochimaru is kind of using her a test by also injecting senju cells into her. So far it’s working and she’s able to use mokuton.

She’s also being taught unethical “medial” jutsu from Sasori and Orochimaru

The Senju Kekkai Genkai

I'm pretty sure the senju kekkai genkai isn't actually mokuton, that's just a by product of their actual kekkai genkai which was proably a genetic predisposition to nature chakra.

I believe the mokuton is a specific alignment of factors that correlate to create the perfect circumstances for it to present. Namely, a water and earth nature affinity, VERY good chakra control (which is clearly a trait of the main family senju line, if hashirama, tobirama, and tsunade are any indication), AND a predisposition, or at least a learned ability, to passively absorb nature chakra (which even Naruto couldn't do, he absorbed it actively).

That would explain why the mokoton is so rare despite kekkai genkai usually being dominant genetic traits in large blood-related family groups (Uchiha, Hyuuga, Hoshigaki, etc) because even if all the senju family could passively absorb nature chakra, few of them hit the rest of the necessary factors.

Take for example Tobirama, hypothetically he hit 3 of the 4 required factors to create mokuton (water affinity, chakra control, nature chakra) but because he was missing that 1 single factor (earth affinity) his kekkai genkai presented as an incredibly powerful water affinity and skill over healing and seals*, but no mokuton.

As well as that, despite being much smaller than the Uchiha, the Senju as a whole were able to compete with them on the battlefield. If we assume the disparity caused by the Uchiha's size and kekkai genkai was being bridged by a boost from nature chakra to each individual Senju, the Senju's ability to keep up is much more feasible.

It is also generally agreed within the fandom (never officially confirmed), that when the mokuton becomes too strong, the user gets turned into a tree. Now, that sounds VERY similar to nature chakra imbalance which Naruto was threatened with when he was was learning Toad Sage Mode, adjusted to suit a Tree Sage of course.

It would also explain why so many Shinobi (Orochimaru, Madara/Zetsu) throughout the Narutoverse struggled to recreate mokuton despite having direct access to Hashirama's cells. Unfortunately, I'm not overly familiar with cellular biology, but at least with kidney transplants (with modern science) the rejection rate is about 15% (correct me if I'm wrong, I googled it), not the ridiculous 99% we see when Orochimaru attempted to recreate it under Danzo's orders. Even accounting for the likely uptick in deaths due to adjusting genetic code being considerably riskier then a simple kidney transplant, it is not unreasonable to assume that most of the transfers were probably successful. Therefore, it is possible that the 99% fatality rate was due to the sudden and overwhelming influx of nature chakra into small bodies and minds that did not know how to handle or balance the sudden intrusion. In fact, we even see this when Tenzou's neighbour eventually succumbed to the experiment, and roots and branches grew out of her. Much like the cost that is described for those that wield mokuton, and also an imbalance of nature chakra.

Finally, that would explain why Sakura doesn't have mokuton when, if the show's description of the kekkai genkai is too be believed, she definitely should. Kishimoto's explanation for mokuton is that it is a perfect balance of earth and water nature affinities which, when combined, can cause plant life and vegetation to be manipulated and grow at extraordinary rates*°. However, if this explanation is to be believed, then there is no reason why Sakura should not have mokuton. It is generally agreed (again, never confirmed) that Sakura has earth and water affinities, and her chakra control is considered one of the greatest in the history of the Shinobi nations (canonically the greatest during her time). Therefore, if we're going by kishimoto's explanation, logically, Sakura should be able to use her chakra control to balance her water and earth affinities. However, if we rather consider it with the theory that the Senju kekkai genkai is nature chakra, then Sakura suddenly needs 4 prerequisites, not just 3. And Sakura has never shown any proclivity to nature chakra, so she does not hit the last requirement.

So. Yeah. The Senju had a genetic green thumb that gave them superpowers, not just trees. I think I had more points somewhere rattling around but I've forgotten them lol. I was also going to do a TL;LD but ehhhhhhh too hard. Do with this information as you like, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

*it is generally believed that one must have a certain mental predisposition towards healing and seals to be able to fully master them. Hence why the Uzumaki were so feared, because it was quite literally impossible for any other Shinobi (even other seal masters) to master some of their work because the logical progression (seals work somewhat like code, except WHERE you put each line of code mattered almost as much as WHAT it said) was incomprehensible

*weirdly enough, hashirama's mokuton generally uses pre-existing plants and seeds to create his constructs whereas Tenzou most often creates them from himself. Perhaps less control/balance over the nature chakra? Rather then using it in the traditional sense, he has weaponised the nature chakra's own side effect? Would also explain why his mokuton is weaker and why he's never shown to have Tree Sage Mode. Could also simply be because neither had formal training and simple made the mokuton entirely their own in how they used it lol

°according to kishimoto's explanation, mokuton is more akin to a release, like D's storm release (water and wind) or Mei's lava release (earth and fire), not a true kekkai genkai which CANNOT be recreated without the necessary genetic code, much like most dojutsus', the hoshigaki's sharklike appearances and skills (although that is often argued to be more as a result of their summons), and the hozuki's naturally transformative cellular structure (which is BONKERS by the way)

plot outline: while their families are still at war, Izuna & Tobirama end up in an extremely dire situation- the point they've been forced to a truce. (Something like....they've been captured and kept for several months by an enemy clan, izuna for his bloodline and tobirama for his jutsu. so they're at the tailend of a lot of torture and starvation before they get slotted together in the same cell.)

It's an extremely temporary truce and they fully intend to try and kill each other as soon as they're out of it, but ultimately the only solution they come up with is a jutsu of tobirama's invention and the use of izuna's chakra. specifically tobirama turns one of his own body parts into his infinite-exploding-seal trick,and another body part for the hiarishin to get them out of the way of the explosion he's set off.

Shinobi don't really believe in owing somebody, but the Uchiha are a noble clan and Izuna's pretty prideful...the idea that Tobirama is going to die essentially for his sake (Regardless of how much the stubborn asshole claims he won't) is unforgivable. So he drags Tobirama back with him.

he's not nice enough to take him back to hashirama of course, he's not letting the senju get their hands back on a guy who can create a nuclear explosion. but the uchiha will keep him alive and in better care than he has been for the past five months so he's not allowed to complain

Anyway this is how he wakes up with the worst hangover of his life hanging upside down taped to the wall on the side of the tower re-evaluating every single decision that got him here. For better or worse they keep loudly declaring him family and treating him as such and he doesn't really know what to do with all that

In turn, she develops familial feelings for him and grows 10x more aggressive, for now he must survive.

Sasuke is forced to learn to heal without his Sharingan first. He needs to learn chakra control for a what-if worst case scenario.

Then he needs to learn it all over again with his Sharingan, because now he can see the chakra flow and it's so much easier it's insane.

He's furious with Tsunade for depriving him of his natural advantage. He does not realize the gift she gave him with learning chakra control all by himself until he's well into adulthood.

Sasuke makes himself a Yin seal by 15.

Tsunade is appalled.

Sasuke becomes a slug sage and weaponizes his awesome healing power into pummeling Itachi and forcing his cells to heal and reproduce to cancerous levels. He commits fratricide with the tools Tsunade gifted him.

Tsunade glows with the knowledge that she is the only one who has an apprentice truly surpassing the master so quickly.

Given this particular sage swap, I guess Orochimaru is miserably attempting to override the nine tails' willpower and possess Naruto's body, and Jiriaya is no longer allowed to write porn or be a massive pervert and is instead teaching Sakura everything he knows about sealing.

in the anime, he is shown to be hard on the outside but clearly permissive in that he would sneak Chouji food in the middle of a mission and try to push Naruto into figuring out who Minato was

confident in himself and confident in others - he is everyone's biggest cheerleader and he isn't just talk; he'll work hard with you. When he says he'll do something, nothing will stop him and he will follow his promises even when no one is watching.

Do you think Tsunade made Kakashi her successor because all of the Kage expected it, Shikaku advised it and he was pretty much the shoe in when she was out for the count, a choice that everyone just settled on in the moment. Or do you think he would have been her own choice as well. If not Kakashi who else would Tsunade nominate in Kakashi's stead. Or would she just have continued on until Naruto was eventually ready.

Anyhow, for the sake of the fandom, let's tackle this one.

The simplest answer to this is, there was no one else. Ironic, right? And pretty sad too.

But the same was true for Tsunade's own turn.

After the Second and Third Wars, too many high-ranked shinobi died.

Let's talk about all the ones who had the potential to be Hokage.

Since Sarutobi's own Team 7 adventures, it seems like he was orchestrating a grand narrative with a recurring motif.

The trend started with the Sannin—his own team. From his three students, Orochimaru was considered to be the 'successor' for the longest time. How that story unfolded is another tangled web.

Following having one potential successor, Sarutobi did not stop there. He needed more. And who better than to have Hashirama's own blood? Again, Team 7 came into play, this time led by Orochimaru (see the tradition?). Another idea linked to this, which used to be a headcanon for Skye, was that Fugaku used to be on that team alongside Nawaki. The idea of having a Senju and an Uchiha on the same team, that too under Sarutobi's own student, was almost like bringing the two clans under his control. Yet fate, of course, had another plan—Nawaki died a genin, and Fugaku (and the mystery teammate) were placed on another cell. This disbanded Team 7.

Sarutobi, of course, couldn't help but try again—where Orochimaru had failed, Jiraiya was expected to succeed. And so the toad sage was the new sensei of a new Team 7 cell. This one had an unexpected prodigy—one Namikaze Minato. This time, Sarutobi's experiment was successful. A new potential Kage rose to fame. The sparkly brat burned too bright and then ended up a martyr.

But before that, his own Team 7 cell was put to the test, and from that, we get one Hatake Kakashi. Curse of Team 7 may be as strong as Shodai's necklace, honestly.

Other candidates who had the potential to be Hokage were a quite a few, starting with Uchiha Fugaku. His performance in the war was legendary. Had events not played out as they had, Fugaku would have been the ideal candidate.

Kato Dan was another potential candidate—for my muse's sake, he should have been Hokage. Maybe we would have had a better Konoha, after all. But the curse got to him too. He died before he could reach his dream.

Hatake Sakumo was another shinobi who had the potential to be Hokage. Another tragedy. Had he lived, Tsunade and Kakashi would have been spared a lot of backaches caused by paperwork. Maybe he thought the alternative was better? Cough.

Anyhow, Tsunade became Hokage because, with the situation Konoha was in, there was a need for someone of the Sannin's level. With Orochimaru as the enemy, it made sense to have another Sannin take the lead. Jiraiya was considered, but Jiraiya is more loyal to the prophecy than the village—sue me. But that is what I believe.

That left Tsunade. Kakashi MAY have been considered, but he was still too young, and the memory of Minato was still too fresh. The role fell to the last Senju.

For her own successor, from early on, it was clear it would be Kakashi. It wasn't about wanting the position anymore. The one who wanted it didn't survive. So the responsibility fell upon the ones who had never wanted to have anything to do with the position. Kakashi was Tsunade's right-hand man from the get-go. They both knew their roles and both filled them because they saw the position as not a dream but a responsibility as well as a burden that was theirs to bear. As if it could make all their sacrifices worth it. Fools.

Kakashi was the successor because who else could it be?

Gai had the skills but not the political mindset.

Nara Shikaku had the brains for the job but not the physical skill to match it.

Kakashi checked all the boxes.

His reputation in all of the shinobi nations was strong. Enemies feared him. Allies respected him. The Hatake clan itself was known for its loyalty to Konoha. His record is second only to the Sannin themselves. He may have never wanted the post, but that was what made him good at the job. And he had a very successful 12 years, right?

Naomi Senju is the only daughter of Lady Tsunade and The Toad Sage Jiraiya— a result of a one-night stand between the two legendary sannins who shared a complex relationship. She was raised by her mother, unaware of who her father was until she was 4 years old due to her mother’s wariness on Jiraiya’s stance on fatherhood or his ability to commit to such a life. But he adored his daughter once finding out about her, despite still being gone most of the time to ‘research’ for his novels or on actual missions. When he would visit the village, he’d spend days with both his daughter and Tsunade. Bonding with both of them and even training Naomi little by little— and she was a little prodigy. Her chakra control and output being her strong suit even when just enrolling in the academy– which she did early at just age 4.

As Naomi aged, her mother’s gambling addiction grew ‘worse’ and she too was often gone— Leaving a young Naomi to become self-sufficient early on. She studied on her own, and with the sensei’s from the academy more often than she’d do anything else. However, her years in the ninja academy were vital for her— making a select few friendships that would last a lifetime with her fellow classmates. The young Senju struggled with making friends, though mostly due to how hot-headed she came off at that age. Not tolerating bullying around her, and not hesitating to fight others that tried to push her too far. She would have gotten in trouble if it wasn’t for how the adults seemed to favor her, be it for her young talent or sannin parentage. 

The competitive prodigy she was, once Naomi heard wind of her friend Kakashi taking the graduation exam early, she couldn’t bear falling behind. Frustrated, the young girl stormed off in a fury without thinking— not paying attention to if anyone was watching her or where she was going. She found herself lost in the forest outside of the village before several large, ferocious animals approached her. Snarling and sniffing at her before relaxing, rubbing against her extended hand for them to smell. It was confusing and odd, both for Naomi and Orochimaru who watched from a distance. The scene before the sannin taught him not to move any closer, expecting the animals to be sensitive to who could get to whatever they were guarding. But for some reason, Naomi was allowed— in fact, one of the oversized hounds began to lead her further into the woods. It was in this forest she’d find the Senju Clan’s hideout for the first time, reading a small inscription that guided her on entry before making her way inside. Curiously and anxiously looking around before spotting scroll after scroll, and book after book. She stayed in the hidden temple for hours, reading and attempting to replicate what she’d learned. When she finally left the building, Naomi knew she had learned something that would for sure convince the academy to allow her to graduate early too. 

When she returned to the village, being guided out of the thick of the forest by the oversized puppies(in her eyes), Naomi went straight to her sensei and insisted he’d watch her perform a jutsu for graduation. Once given permission, she led the teachers outdoors and began to form hand signs in quick succession before a beam of wood protruded from the palm of her hand. Extending towards a tree only 3 yards away from the young girl, before falling onto the ground. With an annoyed huff, she stomped and released the jutsu- allowing the wood to fall from her hand before she crossed her arms over her chest in a pout as she complained she didn’t do it correctly. Despite this little tantrum for not being ‘perfect,’ both the teachers and Orochimaru in the distance were astonished to see the young girl performing wood-style release even if unpolished. She was instantly granted the right to graduate alongside Kakashi. Although neither of them would be placed on teams of 3 until later, they instead did small solo assignments within the village until the rest of their class graduated. 

It was due to her unexpected ability to hone wood-style jutsu that Orochimaru would take an initial interest in her- her potential rather, especially considering the experiments he was actively working on at the time in secret. He’d start to come by more often, offering her guidance in her training until she would eventually be placed on a team of 3 alongside her friend Anko under the sannin’s tutelage. Like Anko, Orochimaru would bring Naomi to his laboratory and teach her. Both the young girls looked up to him, and Naomi even felt pride at how well she retained information or would actually assist in his work- even if she didn’t understand what was going on with it, or any of the real details. Years would pass of Naomi growing close to her sensei, attached to both him and the lab itself– almost seeing it as a safe place to do and say as she pleases. And yet, it was one fateful day when Orochimaru would bring Naomi to his lab that would change her life, and how she’d view those ‘happy’ memories of training with him for years to come. The day he would place the curse mark on her before doing the same to Anko days later, the original version of it— with Hashirama cells, curious to see how she’d react compared to the Senju children like Tenzo he was experimenting on. It was painful, confusing, and horrifying for the young girl— but she survived, and that was a positive. Soon after both she and Anko return to the village, the third coincidentally finds out about Orochimaru’s experiments on the different children and humans. Leading the girl’s sensei to abandon both them and the village altogether. 

Following Orochimaru’s disappearance, Naomi struggled to manage her curse mark while still training for the chunin exams– Seeing as when Orochimaru was still both her and Anko’s sensei he recommended the team for promotion. All three of his previous students would pass the exams and become chunin. 

For 4 years, Naomi went on missions with other chunin or assisted Jonin on any assignments she could get in between her solo training– trying to make up for the loss of a teacher on her own. Although, she finally got some solid one-on-one training with her father, Jiraiya, in this period of ‘peace.’ He’d finally teach her about his hair manipulation technique or more specifically the Needle Jizō technique. 

When the nine tails attacked, Naomi was 14. Despite all she’d seen and gone through up to this point, the destruction left on her home by the nine-tails was unlike anything she’d ever seen before. The horrors she saw from the attack caused her to put her studies and training into overdrive as if she wasn’t already overworking herself. In just two years after the nine-tails attack, Naomi had successfully passed the exam and additional requirements to be promoted to Jonin at age 16.  (I will make posts with art of her I get commissioned over time to describe and talk about her life during the series !! and potentially write more about her as a whole.)
