I did Karaoke for my birthday a bit back and had a lot of fun, so I got to thinking about what songs these two might do, and of course they'd do Pokemon songs! I immediately thought of OK! 2000 for Kabu since the singer screams at the top of her lungs right at the beginning, haha. Larry's voice is softer in Japanese than I expected, so I thought of something a bit quieter for him - Soko ni Sora ga Arukara. It turned out the lyrics for that kind of fit!

Since the lyrics were in Japanese I figured I should write them out for real instead of Romanizing them, which made me realize just how long it's been since I've written in Japanese, haha. I bet my handwriting is terrible...

#nobody gets a prize for correctly guessing which character yakumo relates to most #when the anime first came out and everybody hopped on the hype train #i scratched my chin thoughtfully and wondered.... would i like this? it seems like i would like this. should i watch it?#and all my friends around me said 'nah you'll probably hate it. it's really sad'#so i trusted them and ignored beastars the whole time. until now. when i saw the entire series at my LOCAL LIBRARY!!!!#so of course the curiosity wins out and i start reading it and i REALLY LIKE IT?? WTF WERE MY FRIENDS ON ABOUT?#this is sad yes but most of the time it's FUNNY? and also ANIMALS R COOL? bruh. i can't trust my friends' opinions of me anymore #anyway. due to the nature of my current nuca fixation timing. i kept thinking of it while reading #drawing parallels that may only exist in my mind LOL #i can imagine yaku being a freak over legoshi and his quest to become strong but not falling to his instincts and etc.etc.#yakugaru having a manga reading session in either o their bedrooms... lying on the floor engrossed in beastly tales...#these two would absolutely have a debate about which chara is most similar to eiden #to yaku it is obvs haru but i feel like garu would see eiden in a less.... prey sort of way #or maybe they'd agree on the haru comparison!! but yaku might hesitate to voice the 'mr eiden... has to be protected...' thoughts #and garu would proudly proclaim how eiden and haru share traits like bravery/outgoingness/super cool and go-getter/wise and worldly???#i kept staring down louis like.... you're some mix of dante and edmond... and something else....#UGH i like all the characters... they all have their charms.... they are all such creatures #honestly yahya the entire time was just relatable content and after seeing the way he lived out the rest of his life *chef's kiss* GOALS #nu carnival yakumo #nu carnival garu

tbh i had no opinion at all of her and then about a year ago there was a poll on which member of the collective was the best. and the tiergan lovers website let tiergan down. in favor of her. /hj

in seriousness, dislike was a bit strong. im still mostly neutral on her. she does sort of feel like just another sparkly girlboss in the series which. admittedly is a trope in kotlc thats started to piss me off a bit bc it seems like every adult woman falls into it.

juline is like. the final evolution of that sparkly girlbossery. she has no real relationship damage for more than 2 minutes after revealing shes been lying to her family for years and was part of the organization that grady thought killed his daughter.

in general! it doesnt seem like she ever faces any consequences for lying to her family or pushing them to the side a bit in favor of the black swan.

idk maybe there were problems (specifically with dex) and we never saw them bc theyre not sophies problem but. whatever.

also what is her "official job." was she passing off as a stay at home mom? does she work in the nobility? idk

#juline is like the supreme version of the never do wrong girlboss to me #like yeah she faced consequences with her family!! for a total of 3 minutes!!#i dont expect this to be too fleshed out bc the plot is busy enough without including every trial and tribulation in julines life #but shannon its not too hard to make female characters that arent all the exact same #i can count on 1 hand how many women dont fall into shannons strong badass sparkly mother trope #i get the need to make women strong but that means nothing when every woman has the exact same personality #the only exceptions i can think of off the top of my head (galvin and alina) are put down by both the narrative and most of the fandom #cadence stands out to me also bc.#in general in the later books shes treated well despite her conflict with sophie.#and while shes still a strong character. she doesnt have the sparkly motherly bullshit everyone else has.#<- possibly a side effect of her time with the ogres #sorry this got rambly!! to summarize my problem isnt with juline exactly but with women as a whole in the series #kotlc

series 3 is so frustrating because there is like a shining core of pure diamond underneath the problems . like conceptually it rocks so incredibly hard. but the problems

#dr who #i am being so honest when i say ten should have gotten on his knees and begged for simm!master's life #they should have framed the bit between him and martha's mom so different #like yes it is 10000% in character that the doctor with his bleeding heart and loneliness wouldn't want to kill him #even after everything that happened. because he's the only person he has left. 'i forgive you' was PERFECT.#but literally anyone else that suffered from what the master did. Deserves to rip him to shreds. so very obviously #and like i know.i KNOW that i am watching the 'funny immortal alien saves people through time and space' show #but i actually despise the doctor being framed as like an all powerful savior. or treated like one. even for a little bit. is Annoying #the first part of the series 3 finale having martha be humanity's last hope was SO GOOD bc it like kind of set her up as like #having to grapple with all that responsibility and attention like the doctor does. everyone's lives are in her hands. so crunchy #but when it like slides into 'everyone pls believe in our specialest boy in the world The Doctor <3' it just. falls flat #i feel like with a couple tweaks here and there in the execution and like actual fuckinnn people of color in the writer's room #series 3 would be PEAK media. but as it is it's just. falling short.#i do really appreciate martha deciding to leave ten on her own though. first of all. qpp down. second of all #she's realized that she can't keep traveling with him. bc (as i mentioned) hes someone who simultaneously needs saving #and refuses to be saved in the ways that matter. Very funny to think at the same time the supernaturals of New Orleans are bickering about who should be in charge and how to get more power, the Mystic Falls lot are fighting against the literal unravelling of all magic in the world

#TVDu #tvd lb #series 5 #Promised Land #like series 5 of tvd canonically is occuring at the same time as series 1 of the originals #so while the witches of new orleans are trying to sacrifice each other for more power so they dont lose their magic #a couple hundred miles north magic is being unravelled potentially for good #like thats the travellers whole plan is to rid the world of spirit magic in its entirety #klaus had already been in contact with Bonnie to learn that the other side was falling apart #so they know that something massive is going down for the supernatural world but that doesnt stop theyre territorial squabbling #its just if the witches know about hope and klaus becoming hybrid like even the ones that werent there know cus they can sense the nexus 40 #or whatever shouldnt the witches of new orleans be aware that the other side os falling apart? the magic itself is danger?#it doesnt matter that youre about to lose access to the ancestral well when all spirit magic is about to be eradicated #just wouldve been a very different series 2 of the originals if they hadnt managed to stop the anti magic spell before it got to nola

i miss the era of internet where all we got were anime fansubs made by people who had the time to do what they enjoyed

#translations of everything have started to suck more and more each passing year. everything is rushed out so quick theres no time to #localize literally anything #this is specifically the OFFICIAL dunmeshi anime subtitles saying theres not going to b a duck with an onion or something #ok. that wouldnt have even needed localization. you just didnt translate the fucking thing. you cannot take a saying and directly translate #all the words in it and expect people to get it #also theres a culture of ppl who know a language being like 'uhm. why did you translate it like that when it literally means xyz'#like yeah sure i'm sure translating everything directly ignoring the original prose and flow and meaning is going to be great #yakuza is the only game series i trust to b translated properly tbh. bc of the safe sects joke.#i wish ppl hiring translators a very pay them more and give them more time to work #is this rant even coherent. after ages i managed to fall asleep around 4 am and sleep a whopping 2 hours before waking up #and then i tried to go back to sleep bc i am so incredibly tired but then the clock hit 8 am (i have one of those clocks that chimes every #hour) and i just gave up and decided i need to write down what ive been thinking about for #the past half an hour #though i feel this is missing over half the context i thought of but idk bc im so very tired gdhwbfks

i finished narrenturm, and strangely enough, it felt like i and the story were in sync. just when i was beginning to feel bored, it picked up. just when i was feeling overwhelmed with action, it slowed down. just as i felt i wished something magical would happen, it did, and just as when i felt a need to return to the mundane, it did. a “wish and you will receive” reading experience!

#i was literally going to make a post earlier that i wish there was more ‘down time’ with the characters to get inside their heads a little #and to take a breather from all the action #and lo and behold. The Prison Chapters. The Eponymous Narrenturm.#me: ‘i wish they’d sit down in one place and just talk’ | them: [spend chapters in prison awaiting torture] | me: oh. well that ‘solves’ it.#txt #it’s very thrilling and… wow this is underrated #or rather people treat it like ‘if you dont like history you won’t like this’#i mean i like history but i am not educated in this particular section of it #but my theory was proven true: just read and have fun and thats all that matters #it’s also so funny because i feel like this series delivers on two Main Criticisms the witcher usually falls under:#‘not enough monsters/magic’ and ‘not enough action’#because… oddly enough there is more magic in here than in a lot of the witcher. and a lot of action too — and blood! lots of blood!#i was honestly alarmed when i read ‘tighten the screw’ and we DID NOT fade to black. i was like ‘AN ACTUAL TORTURE SCENE?!’#also there’s multiple decapitations and head trauma —#so again i say: this is making the witcher look like [dandelion’s voice] child’s play…#the one part in which the witcher has delivered stronger so far is female characters #but i know that in the witcher the female characters start to take better shape in the 2nd/3rd/4th books #i feel like nicolette at the moment has less character development and pagetime than yennefer did in the last wish #she’s not even on the same level as famously underdeveloped essi daven #so i hope she gets more time and embodiment in the future. i think she will. i trust she will #it’s fascinating to see the evolution of the style and interests though…

I can't fully explain it but there's a certain writing style that all classic books are written in that makes me go insane. Where EVERYTHING is written using large powerful words, makes other scenes lose their meaning. When every scene is describes using pretty words, things LOSE THEIR EMPHASIS! All the scenes blend together. I could not tell you SHIT about The Left Hand of Darkness other than the word queer was used in it's original meaning but holy shit I could go off about Gone by Micheal Grant ALL DAY. Fucking LOVE that book series.
