Hopper is sitting in a booth at the diner.
He watching his new recruit talk on the pay phone outside through the window, contemplating. He’s not too sure about this Callahan kid.
He’s not sure if he’s just getting older or if it’s because he has a daughter now, but Christ. Callahan still had braces last year and they just handed him a gun. The kid is nineteen.
Hopper must have been too deep in his musing because he doesn’t notice Steve slide into the booth across from him until Steve is halfway through telling him that they make him sit at the bar when the diner is busy. He doesn’t like that because people touch his hair when they go past so, “Can I sit with you, please?”
He shoves Callahan’s half-finished hash browns to the side and says, “Don’t worry, I’ll be really quiet. You’ll forget that I’m here. Mama says I’m really good at that.”
Yeah. Somehow Hopper doesn’t think he’ll be forgetting much of anything. Especially after Patty Martin, the only waitress in the building today, comes over to top of Hopper’s coffee. She gives Steve the sweetest smile Hop has ever seen on her face and asks, “Pancakes again, kiddo?”
“No thanks,” Steve says, pulling some crumbled up dollars and a handful of coins from his pocket. He slides it towards her and says with a gap-toothed smile, “One big sundae with two bananas, please.”
She looks at the money, “That’s a bit more than what you got here, kid.”
“Not of it’s your birthday.”
This is a game, Hopper realizes when Patty asks, “Is it your birthday? You had a birthday last year.”
“I have a birthday every year!” Steve giggles, and Hopper is slightly amused until Patty leaves and Steve informs him, “Mama and me come here every year on my birthday and get a big sundae. We share it. It’s tradition. I’m seven.”
Hopper scans the room and finds it lacking, “Where is your mom?”
Steve pauses. He can see the gears turning in the kid’s head. He knows that Steve must’ve heard his dad say that you don’t lie to the police but you don’t got to tell them the truth because he predictably gives a non-answer, “She’s not here.”
Descriptive, Hopper thinks but he also thinks this whole scenario is so damn sad. Instead of an interrogating, he asks, “Hey, kid. How about after you finish your ice cream, I take you for a drive in the truck. You can turn the siren on.”
Steve gives him a look like he not only thinks that suggestion is stupid but that Hopper is too. He says gently, like he’s letting Hopper down easy, “No thanks.”
“I’m going to Tommy’s later,” Steve adds. “His mama is making me a cake.”

Xiao had seen Venti’s suit. He’d also seen him wearing it in a photo Venti sent him from the tailor’s. He wasn’t expecting anything to be different when he turned. He was an idiot. It was night and day. In the mid-morning sunlight, surrounded by green grass and vast blue sky, Venti was ethereal. Xiao’s heart lurched. His eyes burned.

Congo is silently going through a silent genocide. Millions of people are being killed so that the western world can benefit from its natural resources.
More than 60% of the world's cobalt reserves are found in Congo, used in the production of smartphones.
Western countries are providing financial military aid to invade regions filled with reserves and in the process millions are getting killed and millions homeless.
Multinational mining companies are enslaving people especially children to mine.

Jon is one of the best pitchers on his baseball team but catch him in the back of the school dueling pokémon cards. Damian is there of course for support but by the end of it's Damian and Jon dueling each other cus Damian kept being a backseat player and telling Jon what he'd do differently if he was the one playing.
Jon got annoyed and fed up and said "Why don't you fight me than!" and Damian accepted.
So now you have star athlete Jon Kent and top honor student Damian Wayne dueling pokémon cards behind the school. They're an enigma to everybody.

i think it's a bit funny that with some new neglected batfam fics i've read so far from others, people began to portray damian the same way i did (an injury he left on the mc after their first meeting/after a certain incident, or his overall aggressiveness that stems possessiveness being the blood sibling, or his desire to be babied/seen as a baby brother, a parallel to dick seeing you as his baby bird).
and it's not only with damian, i see some with the other characters, too.
it's fun finding similarities between my portrayals of the characters and theirs. also, the love for conner kent that suddenly surged, too! i'm not complaining, though; his 90's version deserves more love and i'm glad that there's so many people in my inbox admitting that they got into comics because of me.
i appreciate everybody who sees what i wrote as an inspiration <3 this post is meant to be my gratitude for the community of writers who found my silly fanfics and found motivation to write for their own stories, too! the same way i found fanfics from my favorite authors (gotham-daydreams, klemen-tine, and so much more). i think it's really nice.

mildly entertaining pjo fandom curse (mostly in that you can make games out of it):
everybody draws Piper showing skin. half the time Shel as well. literally almost EVERYBODY. go look at Piper fanart. is she wearing a crop top? i bet she is. or if she's wearing a dress hers is gonna be one of the most revealing. bonus points if they gave her a belly button piercing. and it's almost always only Piper and/or Shel. i thought we had a whole discussion about sexualizing young indigenous girls back in like 2021 but i guess nobody processed that part cause pjo fandom acts like if they dont have Piper show her stomach or have her shirt ride up they'll die.
the curse is that you will never unsee this. have fun with that.

My page for @kairizine. It was such a huge honor to be part of this wonderful book with everyone, I had so much fun!
[id in alt!]
#kingdom hearts#kh#kh kairi#kh xion#kh namine#i don't really feel proud of my own stuff usually but#i really think this is the drawing i'm most proud of from this past year!! it made me think 'oh maybe i can draw' haha#i'm still kinda bad with colors but something clicked with this one. and i feel like i got the sentimental feeling i wanted!#ooh but this project's about flower symbolism so ramble incoming:#protea symbolizes resilience transformation and diversity; hollyhock means 'please remember me.'#so my general theme was finding a sense of self.#these 3 have struggled with finding their own identity; they tend to get left behind both in-universe and in general plotwise#and naminé and xion both resemble kairi and were overshadowed by her memory. but i feel like all 3 have transformed into their own people#xion and naminé have their faces covered partially by hollyhock to show their wish to be remembered for who they are-#instead of the parts that they share with someone else#and the protea bouquets show how they each held on and resiliently grew into their own person despite it all#i put a little swervy path on the hill behind kairi to give that hopeful sense of growth and moving forward. it's a little hard to see#hopefully that makes sense! i really love symbolism but i think in visuals so i'm really bad with words#but gosh working with everyone on this project was so fun. it was like impossible not to get swept up by the team's hype for this zine#i need to hunt down everybody's work and rb it#ohh and everybody's flowers are so crisply drawn it's insane!! i think if i lined all these flowers and leaves i'd die haha#fan art#my art#project stuff

Steve tells Hopper that he won’t be able to play with him at the park because he’s going to his grandparents’ house in Florida.
They’re never ‘playing’ in the park. It is always Hopper responding to a call and Steve being somewhere he shouldn’t be. Privately Hopper thinks, good.
Maybe he’ll stop getting calls about this ‘violent criminal’ roaming the streets.
What he says instead is, “Great news, Steve. Now, get out of that tree.”
“Oh, I can’t do that,” Steve tells him. “I’m stuck.”
Hopper had kinda hoped that the number of calls from Steve’s neighbors would drop but, nope.
Now they’re calling the precinct because they haven’t seen the kid in a while and they’re concerned.

The Zong Massacre (1781)
On September 6, 1781, the slave ship Zong sailed from Africa with around 442 enslaved Africans. Back then, slaves were a valuable 'commodity' so they often captured more than the ship could handle to maximize profits.
Ten weeks later, around November 1781, the Zong arrived at Tobago, then proceeded toward St. Elizabeth, but deviated from its route near Haiti. At that stage, water shortages, illness, and fatalities among the crew, combined with poor leadership decisions, caused chaos.
By end of November about 62 Africans had died from either disease or malnutrition. The Zong then sailed in an area in the Atlantic known as "the Doldrums" notorious for stagnant winds.
Stranded there, illness ravaged the ship, claiming over 50 more lives as conditions worsened.
Desperate as they ran out of water, Luke Collingwood, captain of the ship decided to "jettison" some of the cargo in order to save the ship & provide its owners the opportunity to claim insurance.
Children, women and men were forced off the ship and left to drown. Some of the men handcuffed and had iron balls tied to their ankles. About 10 Africans jumped rather than be pushed by the crew. By December 22, about 208 Africans arrived alive, a mortality rate of 53%.
Upon the Zong's arrival in Jamaica, James Gregson, the ship's owner, filed an insurance claim for their loss. Gregson stated that Zong didn't have enough water to sustain the crew & Africans. The underwriter, Thomas Gilbert, disputed the claim citing the ship did have enough water.
Despite this the Jamaican court in 1782 found in favour of the owners. The African were reduce to "horses" & "cargo" while it cause outrage against anti-slavery proponents. It would be years for the event to be termed what it is really: a massacre.
•••
