The reason why Jun Wu was so obsessed with modelling Xie Lian after himself was to prove himself what happened wasnt his own personal failing but the kind of thing that would happen to anyone else in order for himself to be able to make peace with his choices in this essay i will-

“katara is uptight and gets offended when anyone swears in her vicinity” has gotta be one of the lamest fandom jokes. for what it’s worth, i don’t think any of the atla kids wouldn’t swear out of some naive sense of propriety (with perhaps the exception of azula, because she’s an obedient goody two shoes who thinks coarse speech is for the lower classes), but katara would be one to swear a lot. she definitely swears more than sokka, although she’d also regulate her speech better so as not to offend those around her (especially if she is in the process of sucking up to an adult). sokka would swear just because he’s a grumpy, easily frustrated person whose choice of words reflects his frustration, but katara would swear out of her fundamental sense of rebellion. a deep thrill runs through her every time she says fuck or shit, because she is fourteen and away from the admonishing tongue of gran gran for the first time in her life. katara, toph, and aang are still young enough that saying “bad words” fills them with a sense of excitement over “breaking the rules,” whereas for sokka, zuko, and suki, that novelty wore off a while ago and it’s simply a part of their everyday speech. but while sokka is a teacher’s pet at heart who presents as a misanthropic asshole, katara is a mischievous ne’er-do-well at heart who presents as a beacon of polite decorum whenever she wants to get her way (typical elder vs younger sibling distinction). but you know that when katara is yelling at sokka, pakku, toph, zuko, and every other unfortunate soul who may find themselves on the receiving end of her wrath, she’s cramming in as many “what the fuck is your problem?!”s and “get your shit together!!”s as she possibly can. then again, katara would definitely respond with righteous indignation if toph cursed in front of her, but that’s hardly because katara is offended at toph for saying bad words. rather, it’s simply because she also happens to be. a massive hypocrite.

All that said though I think there's a lot of room for the ages to be up for interpretation, for the Askr siblings. But the key thing to me is that it was established Book 4 that Sharena has been an adult for some time (for Alfonse to say it like that), meanwhile it's established through Sanaki that Veronica is a young teen or even pre-teen. That's really what matters to me, when it comes to my own discomfort with romantically shipping Veronica with either of them, extending to Thrasir and Lif as well. I also feel like the bridal duo does a good job portraying that Sharena and Veronica's relationship is more of a mentor/role model thing, a family friend or a friend you consider family.

This clown hiding in the notes trying to justify killing innocent people and taking hostages with "they're allowed to resist occupation." Resisting occupation is not killing innocent people and taking civilians hostage.
Also, lol with them putting Israel in scare quotes and calling people arrested for often violent crimes "hostages." Pro-Pals really are desperate to find any way to justify Hamas' actions.

I understand that some may be concerned about orym letting laudna slip into darkness with delilah and telling keyleth about lillianas connection to imogen (which even then, I understood why he did it) but takes like that annoy me because it discredits how good of a conversation that was!!!! keyleth validating oryms anger is good actually imo!!!!! he's lived through weeks of people telling him that these people, who have taken lives for their selfish agendas, may have a point because of their use of the gods as a scapegoat!!!!! it's so powerful to me that his leader, someone he looks up to so much, is on the same page with him, not making him feel like he has to hide his feelings or battle with the anger inside of him!!!!!! it's natural!!!!!!!!! she's putting trust in him, believing he can lead and fight!!!!!!!!!!! he is not acting against his people, he is standing with them as they are with him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am both scared and EXTREMELY EXCITED about where orym is going to go as a character I can't wait for the YouTube vod to come out on Monday and cry over that convo again
i was just hoping that meeting his family and talking to keyleth about it in full might like... be a moment of reflection or contemplation or realization for that crowd but it seems to have made them worse.
i don't want to say it's not possible that he hasn't or won't make some questionable choices but i've been struggling with people who seem to blame him entirely for delilah possibly having more control on laudna, especially after the talk laudna and imogen had last ep! like i feel like they totally ignored it because it would minimize the role they forced orym into taking.
and i'm glad he said something about liliana now because that's a big fucking thing to just be upfront about given their involvement and the current stakes. i don't think it was to throw her under the bus, i think it was a 'there's no point in lying about or hiding this because you can take one look at the two of them and connect the dots'.
they have both lost people they love. they both have to right to be angry and want justice. idk why they can say that for keyleth but not for orym.

The shoes on or off in the house discourse is always so half baked. I wear shoes in the house sometimes to stay awake (idk it works) but I'm usually barefoot ig. Around here it's considered presumptive to kick off your shoes as a guest unless invited to or you are close to the host. Usually host is barefoot/socks and company keeps shoes on. Dunno why that's how it is but shoes off households are not the norm in the more yeehaw areas - - I mean, outside of work boots or whatever, those usually have like a mud area they get deposited in. It is considered extremely rude to put your shoes up on furniture in almost every context, but the floor is kinda like lol..shoes go there
Idk I just vacuum/mop and my floors always come out clean 🤷 regional differences 🤷

the truth is y’all are impossible to please. if kp are angsty and toxic, you hate it. if kp are happy and in love, you hate it. if vp don’t get more screen time, you hate it. if vp finally get a sex scene, you hate it. if vp had harder nc scenes, you’d hate it. if vp are too soft, you hate it. do you see the pattern here? don’t bite the hand that feeds you. you will never win.
you hate kp for developing into a healthier relationship, but the truth is as soon as vp develop into something healthier and established (like in the books? hello? domestic husbands with adopted child?) you will complain about that too. you know why? bc you are living in your fantasy wattpad world and are unable to be objective. but this is a sophisticated show airing internationally. it is mature and can’t please everyone.
you extreme people are making it a terrible place for everyone and taking the fun out of fandom. bye

i think most of you if you went to someone's house and they asked you to take your pants off in the doorway would feel uncomfortable with that. you would probably think that everyone being half-naked during a social call is kind of awkward. and if you did indeed respect your hosts' wishes and disrobe you'd probably be hyperaware of your naked legs during the visit, and also kind of cold. you would be relieved to put your pants back on when you left.
yes this is an analogy.

Might be a hot take but a major character’s death is really only as good as the weight and the treatment that the narrative gives it. Sure, any author has the ability to write death as they see fit. But whether the consumer (of any given form of media) is actually able to emotionally connect and resonate with the departure of someone who has occupied a good chunk of narrative space very heavily depends on how it’s treated within the story. If it’s a major character, the narrative needs enough built-in breathing space. As in, the consumer doesn’t have to fill in the blanks as to how the death impacted the plot or the remaining characters. Let the narrative do that for them, and that would actually allow the consumer to better react and relate to that major death (sadness, anger, joy, etc). Allow the rest of the characters (who were impacted by the deceased) to react to their parting. Let them engage with the death in a manner that helps justify the character’s inclusion in the narrative to begin with. Make it clear how the character’s life and (especially) their death relate to the larger themes of the story. Because most consumers aren’t stupid. We don’t want our hands held at every waking moment, but we also don’t want our investment in a story to be insulted just for the sake of a cheap shock. Give us time to breathe and grieve. And respect that we have put in a lot of emotional investment in a story and its characters, and we deserve to have that acknowledged.
#recent developments in a very popular ip have forced me to think about how creators treat the deaths of major or main characters#and the discourse of ~ohh we don’t need to see every single thing~ has got me thinking#like sure we don’t need to be spoon fed everything but consumers have varying emotional investments depending on the characters#a side character it’s passable if we don’t get any fanfare but a MAIN???#we’ve invested so much into their journey and the themes in their arcs and how they affect the world around them#is it too bad to want that to be actually acknowledged by & within the narrative?#so that whole thing got me to think about main characters whose deaths were well done in fiction#ned stark imo is a really good one because the immediate payoff of his death is the start of the wot5k and long term effect was#that the stark kids now had to fill in their father’s shoes and rise and become leaders in their own right and while we still have twow an#ados we can also tell as shown in adwd that the long term effect of Ned’s legacy is that house stark will be preserved even when it’s on th#brink of extinction#so that’s a well done imo because we also see throughout 4 books just how much his death meant to the kids#his death hurts because we see how his kids are hurting - jon arya sansa bran are GOING THROUGH IT AND IT HURTS!#I’d argue MCU did a pretty good job of showing tony’s everlasting legacy after his death and they did that through Peter who was the proteg#we can love and grieve for tony though peter whom we love and have come to relate to so Tony’s death has a lot of narrative weight#and how it’s handled is satisfying even though we’re hurt that he’s gone#same with sirius and dumbledore in HP - sirius’ especially hits sooo hard because Harry goes absolutely apeshit in ootp and then has to#pick up the pieces in hbp + dumbledore’s life and death is given quite a good amount of narrative space for both harry and the reader#the recent developments in jjk have me worried that a certain someone’s departure won’t be given the narrative weight it deserves#and part of that is gege’s pacing being wonky because oops it’s another big fight that will take god knows how many chapters idk#I’ll wait and see but as of right now….i feel like fan complaints about it shouldn’t be brushed aside because they’re super valid 😕#asoiaf#harry potter#jujutsu kaisen#mcu#marvel#comics#manga

Behold, the people who claim to be the good guys, and the only ones who care about human life, human rights, and human dignity.
Watch in awe as they demonstrate just how untrue that is and how much they're just using this conflict to stroke their own egos about how good a person they are for siding with "revolutionaries" who killed innocent people en-mass and hide behind civilians when their victims tried to fight back.
