Having to coax or cut a barbed object, or multiple, out of a character's flesh- arrows, porcupine quills, fishhooks, etc.- the direction of the barbs preventing it from being pulled out without tearing and causing further damage, which is also unavoidable as it's painstakingly cut or coaxed out but at least it's controlled that way and the character performing the delicate procedure can limit the additional damage as much as possible.

Interesting that Gloin specifically remembers Legolas being an asshole to him bc that makes his presence in the Hobbit retroactively canon book-wise. Also interesting that his lack of appearance in the Hobbit (probably due to not existing as a character yet) could be in-universe chalked up to Bilbo never meeting him OR straight up forgetting him. Legolas walks up to Old Bilbo in Rivendell like “hey dude remember me? Thranduil’s kid?” And Bilbo’s like “oh…. hey…… you…..” while sweating bullets

🌸 when the Hindriarch banished Eskhind and her kin from Bey Lah, Neelahind would follow her heart into voluntary exile. To abandon a surefooted life, as well as a coveted spot among the Fellowship, is nearly unheard of among both hindren and Wardens, but Neelahind was glowing when she took her leave. I hear the pair are quite happy together, practicing arconautics in the ruins to the west—at least, that's what the kendren bring news of when they come back to trade.
